La Tolteca Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Note to self for next visit: order margarita as you're being seated if you want more than one during dinner. This place looks like nothing special from the outside-fluoroscent beer ads, Mexican blankets, and it's in a strip mall. We were seated after a few minutes-the place was a little understaffed-but served good chips and salsa immediately while ordering magaritas to puruse the menu with(these took awhile to arrive, which made me change my mind about 50x before we could order). I ordered the special pork in tomatllo sauce, which was absolutely amazing. Jim got tacos-pork al pastor (yummy) and beef al carbon(a little dry).

This is my favorite Mexican place in the area - better service than Mexico, and you can actually HEAR the conversation with your eating companions, unlike at the La Tolteca in La Plata. The food is excellent. I'll admit that the salsa isn't very spicy, but I like it that way. Just fair warning if you like spicy salsa, though. The service is quick, and we've never had a problem getting our check or any of the waitstaff's attention. Finishing the meal with their flan is the way to go. La Tolteca has never served us an imperfect flan (unlike Mexico).

I've been here several times and the chimichanga has been the best. The problem that I encountered is that I ordered the chili verde. Unfortunately it was full of cilantro, which I can't eat. I told the waiter and he said that I had to pay for it. I couldn't even switch my order. Then they had the nerve to make me pay half on food I didn't eat. Such poor customer service. The menu didn't mention any cilantro. I was quite dissapointed with the service. Not sure if I'll venture there again.

Foods great but the sanitation is soso.. Kinda think it's dirty but the food & service always rocks though so I still go. Shrimp quesadilla is the BEST.

The original Mexican restaurant of Waldorf. Great food, wonderful service and is small enough to render the place a quiet, friendly place.

Super fast, super yummy food. Large portions. I love their salsa, even ordered a container to go once. Was slightly disturbed by it being served in a paper Pepsi cup. We almost always order the Chimichangas, but haven't had anything there that wasn't delicious. Wait staff is always polite and the Spanish language television broadcasts are always interesting to watch, even though I don't speak the language. Never seems to be too busy though which worries me.

I'm not quite sure how to review this place... It is what it is and it's good at doing what it does. They serve cheap, med-qual, no frills (like forrealz, no frills whatsoever) tex-mex food. The menu is so long it has tabs but, truthfully, most everything tastes the same: creamy*, salty, and cheesy. On this visit, my "chimichanga" came out as two small, soft, enchilada-style roll ups instead of the hefty, crunchy, fried mass of deliciousness a chimi's supposed to be. Not a tremendous problem because what I got was still tasty and cost very little but definitely not what I was envisioning when I ordered. Service is always very friendly and their large coronaritas, while not stand-out, are well worth the $. The place has very little going for it aesthetically; in fact, it could easily be mistaken for an undercover strip club from the outside since all the glass is painted opaque black, but rest assured the interior is family friendly. I'd say a solid 3.5 stars if you're in the mood for yummy enough/cheap enough tex-mex served in Texas-style portions (i.e., be prepared to unbutton your pants at the table!). *DISCLAIMER: we've never tried their fajitas but they look delicious!

Fajita was good, chimichanga was good, too. Service prompt & polite; prices fair; serving size decent. Served the cerveza w/a cold mug (that's a plus); men's bathroom clean. I forgot to mention that the Salsa was unique (a bit of twang, thoroughly blended...not too exciting to the eyes...reminded me of puréed tomatoes w/Tapatio in it). I think they would prosper greatly if a local could take the time to help them get on the Google map.

I was hesitant to go inside because it looked dark from outside.......But I'm glad that we went in. Very friendly staff, good food and great prices.

We had a late lunch here after a movie. The staff was very nice and helpful. Good lunch quality food. Basic and no frills. You are given chips and salsa upon arrival, which were good but not great. The salsa was generic tasting. Large portions, so show up hungry. The food arrives quickly which was nice. I had #107 Carne Asada, which was okay. My wife had #24 taco, chalupa, tostada plate, and it was also okay. Not fancy or awesome, but not bad. Everything we ate we could easily cook at home, with the same or better results. But, this was our first visit. (Although my wife has brung home tamales before (very good)). I bet they have some really good items on the menu... Unfortunately we ordered and receive the basics.. Tortillas, beans, chopped lettuce, tomatoes, ground beef, and cheese.... And my carne Asada (large very thin cuts of seasoned beef). The bill was about $25 and included my tea and my wife's soda. Not terrible, but you could come close to the same food at Taco Bell for around $10-$15. Not the best place in the world, but a good place for a basic lunch. We left really wishing we had tried the enchiladas.

Authentic Mexican menu with lots of options. Staff is friendly and fast and doesn't mind helping us with our Spanish. Prices are fair and the portions are large. Margaritas are great! This is a monthly favorite for us.

Overlooked this place for three years... Wish I wouldn't of. Finally needing a Mexican food fix, we rolled the dice and tried La Toteca out. We have now eaten at both the LaPlata location. Their service is unparalleled. So fast and super friendly. Your drink or salsa will never get close to being empty. This alone sets it apart from anywhere else in Charles county. Is it the best Mexican food I've ever had? Coming from Texas No. Is it the best place I've eaten in Charles county.... A resounding yes.

The ONLY thing this place has going for it is super fast and friendly service. That is the sole reason for giving them any stars. The quality of the food doesn't deserve any stars. The cheese is sticky and goopy and leaves a horrible aftertaste. That is saying a lot from someone who loves cheese. If they would use a Monterey Jack/Cheddar blend I would have much fewer complaints. The enchilada and burrito were both soggy and the ground beef in the burrito had bland and slightly stale taste to it. It was my first time venturing down to Waldorf for some Mexican food. I certainly won't be doing that again. I'd rather go to Don Pablo's in Alexandria or Lauriol Plaza in DC and wait 1.5 hrs to be sat.

I like this place. The food was good, both me and my husband enjoyed our meals. The drinks were good and the menu prices were very affordable. The only thing I didn't like was the salsa. It was extremely watered down but its complimentary so I can't really complain

My co-workers and I love this place! They remember us and our special requests without fail! The food is good and affordable and they never rush us out if we stay long. This will always be our go to spot!

Pretty good for a small mom and pop place. So much better than El Montes!! Clean and very good service. My sons split a meal - not very hungry and server brought extra plate without asking. Very good service. Food is ok needs a little more flavor and fresh ingredients.

The absolute BEST tacos de carn asada, that I've ever had! I've been to MANY Mexican restaurants, but these are the absolute best! The steak is cooked perfectly, and the spicy sauce that is served on the side adds such a delicious flavor to the meat! I live in Northern VA and find myself heading over to Waldorf to eat the tacos. Order the flour tortilla's though, they come with corn tortillas. Service is great and friendly too!

Very good food at a reasonable price. Staff is attentive and options are plenty. My favorite are the enchiladas with beans and rice. Yum!

This place was okay. The positives: speedy service and a large quantity of food for the low price. The negatives: the chips were slightly stale and the shrimp was rubbery and a bit gamey. We'll give this place a second chance but with the large assortment of options in the same strip mall I think we can find better.

I love this place. They have some really good food, I love the Texas fajitas ! The complimentary chips and salsa are so good too :) service is fast and the employees are very kind. Never busy when I go, so it's a nice quiet environment.

This is one of our favorite places to eat! The people are friendly, the food is great and service is excellent. We especially love the chips and salsa and the white cheese dip is a must!

Fast service...but after you get the food they don't do a follow up? It is like you disappear once the food is on the table. The food is good, but a little pricer (not much) than some of the other smaller Mexican restaurants.

Ok went tonight to get the famous 44oz marg. I got it in strawberry. It was ok I asked for more liquor and he brought the bottle and told me to say when. I literally forgot to say when!!! LoL

Food is subpar. Queso is watered down and the chicken fajitas are drenched in taco seasoning. Service was very fast for a Friday night; however, I would have been willing to wait longer for better food. Margarita also had very little alcohol in it - not worth the high price tag. I wouldn't recommend this place for casual dining with friends/family.

What can you say? Best Mexican restaurant in Waldorf. Yeah, sums it up. Food is good, as are the prices. Not the cleanest joint, but the service is always friendly. It's family and group friendly. The benches are not the most comfortable but what are there for? The food right??? Enjoy.

Good. Cheap. Food. We got two dinners, three drinks between two people and the bill was less than $25 with tip. Pro-Tip: order the white cheese sauce on your rice. It's delicious.

I will never go there again. It should be looked at very closely by the health department, and their manager is not too sharp.

This is the twin restaurant of El Charro in Woodbridge, and like El Charro to Woodbridge, is one of its hometown's few redeeming qualities. This food is fresh-'cross-the-border Mexican, where the cheese is white and the beef in the tacos is unseasoned. Four-letter-word-in' delicious.

I know, I totally lied. I've said last time, when I reviewed Mexico Restaurant, that I would officially give up looking for Mexican food hear in the DMV area. I'm such a liar. To tell you the truth, I'm still on my hunt. My fiend for Mexican food has come back...and my quest continues.. Its been less than a week since I came back from California, and I guess I just didn't have enough time to eat all the Mexican food I wanted. Plus, today was Cinco De Mayo. My husband found it an excuse to get a Margarita today. :] After reading these reviews here.. We thought we'd give it a try. The staff was very, very friendly. Its a small place, but they were on top of it getting people in and out, and keeping everyone happy. The margaritas are amazing. Yes. I know there's alcohol in it, but you really cannot taste it. They are so huge, its totally a picture opp. See my picture in the pictures. :] We had it blended, not on the rocks. $11 I think? The chips weren't warm, but it was fine. The salsa was alright..Not the best but can't really complain. The portions were decent. They weren't cheap with it, but I wasn't like OMG WOW this is generous!..I learned my lesson before, so I asked about the cheese that they use in their dishes. Our server said it was a white American cheese and gave me a sample. I'm really not a fan of that cheese....so instead of the beef enchiladas, I got the fried beef chimichangas. [see pictures of everything] The chimichangas weren't that great... The shredded beef inside was a little dry and tasteless. It was topped with lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and served with a side of beans. The beans had NO FLAVOR, what-so-ever. Its like someone forgot to season them. :[ The guacamole was freakin BOMB though. It had a very unique seasoning, that had a little kick of heat to it. I loved the guacamole. :] My husband got the Texas Fajitas, and those were REALLY delicious.. It came with beef, chicken, and shrimp. It came out sizzling hot and had a very flavorful seasoning. Our friends got the burrito supreme with steak, a chile relleno, and a variety plate including a taco, an enchilada, a burrito, and I forget what else. I tried the burrito supreme, and the steak inside her burrito was a lot more flavorful than the beef in my chimichangas, but a little on the salty side. Her husband claimed that although there appeared to be variety on his plate, in reality they all tasted the same--bland. At the end, I ordered their flan for dessert. OMG I was so happy to have flan. It was a small portion, and it cost $2.50, but it sure was delicious! I just might come back for the dessert itself. Over all, I am once again,...disappointed. However, I did take lots of pictures for you yelpers! They sure did look delicious, but I definitely was upset with the flavors. I would come to La Tolteca, for flan, and maybe a margarita, but I wouldn't go out of the way for anything else here at all. Our server understood the Mexican food my husband and I had in mind.. We explained our party was from New Mexico, and California...and he told us honestly that it is completely different from Mexican food there. La Tolteca interprets Mexican food far from what I am used to, and I honestly do not prefer it. To be frank, I didn't think it was any better than a Taco Bell. At least Taco Bell has good cheese. :P Screw it, I'll go to Chipotle. That's even better than Taco Bell. La Tolteca, Mexico Restaurant..seems like these 'Mexican Restaurants' around here get two things right (margaritas and fajitas), and everything else pretty damn wrong.. D/M/V, you leave me no choice. I must learn how to cook all of my favorite Mexican foods to survive out here. I still want to try that place out in Arlington before I retire my quest for delicious Mexican food out here...

I am sorry this place is not really good. I only had queso's and tostada. But if you can not make the simple meals correct then why try anything else. Why was it bad, the queso's were uncut and swimming in grease. The salsa wasn't good, I have personally made better. Maybe and dish is good. But I left my food on the table and won't return.

SHUT IT DOWN! I am a AVID Mexican food eater and just moved to the Waldorf area, from Arizona. One thing I know is Mexican and this is not it!! I ordered the Chimichanga, and my wife Ordered the Texas Fajitas GROOSE!!! First off my Chimi came with way to much milky cheese, like it was sour cream mixed with a yogurt type cheese, but my wife's plate by far is the reason you need to shut down. The meet from her fajitas tasted like it all sat together before it was cooked so the Beef, and Chicken tasted like SHRIMP, there was a horrible after taste like it all sat together marinating for house before it was cooked, and honestly our first thought was The meet is old. Which my wife did mention the shrimp tasted like it was old shrimp and it just tainted everything. Not to mention they gave her enough meet to feed 4 people I made the comment that they just layered it up because it had been marinating waiting for someone to order it. Lastly, NEVER EAT FROM A PLACE THAT HAS over 100 menu items!!! My order was 111 and I think it went to 150. That is not the way a true mexican restaurant should run at all! If you have 150 menu items how can anything be good because you are prepping for everything all day so if you get 20 orders then everything else is just sitting prime example why my wife's food was so discussing. (I didn't even talk about the nat that flew in my sons taco once it was served and when asked to take it back and give us another one the waiter was not friendly at all. SHUT IT DOWN Erase the menu, clean the place up and start over with 15 items better yet call CHEF RAMSEY he will hook you up YOU NEED IT!

I'd return for the chorizo tacos bc I think they're unique, spicy, and delicious. I don't like the signs all over the walls telling you how to behave. Makes me nervous and the feel is not very kid friendly. Seriously- the signs tell you to keep your shoes on at all times, sit properly, not let your kids stand on the seat... do you know how hard it is to get a 2-yr-old to not stand on the seat to reach another chip? I think I'd get the chorizo tacos again, but do take-out. :(

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
