I've been looking for sushi spots that are close to the area and I see Waldorf has a few spots to check out. I'd have to say Kobe's is pretty good. I would pick this place over Kodori any day! If you're looking for some good sushi at a good price, go to Kobe's! You should definitely get one of their speciality rolls when you're there.

If you love cheap crappy Japanese food that's overpriced and takes way to long to get delivered to your table then this place is for you. If not got to the Japanese place in La Plata next to Texas Roadhouse, they're way better.

It is a small restaurant with about 10 tables and a bar area. And one waitress, who takes orders, drops food, makes drinks, takes complaints, clears tables, and gives and closes out the check. The girl is wondrous! If you are not going for sushi, don't go. They have fried rice and hibachi, but your options are very limited. The drinks specials are $ 5 maybe all day. They have punches, margaritas, amaretto sour, etc. It's their shining light and they were fuerte! The sushi was average. It wasn't awful, but not spectacular. And they seemed a little heavy handed on the sauces on my visit.

Kobe is our go to restaurant since Waldorf really has nothing else but chain restaurants and fried food. The sushi here is always good. It's fresh and made well and it isn't super expensive either. They can be very slow and backed up when it gets busy but the restaurant is quite small and the staff is basically whoever is in the kitchen, the sushi chef, and the couple who I believe are the owners and do the serving/bartending too so I don't blame them. I normally get the sashimi deluxe and I love it. All their rolls are delicious. Their Kobe wings are spectacular. Everything else is pretty standard. Drinks are strong and on the cheap side too. Everything here is priced reasonably and they are also very quick if you do carry out.

Hmmmmm. Reading the other reviews, maybe I'm being harsh. Maybe I'm not coming in at the right time. Maybe I haven't been in enough? The past few times I've been in, the service was poor. There is one person working the register and the floor - the place is busy enough that more than one person is needed. It took forever to order and then additional time just to get our order to the sushi counter to be made. The food? Ok I guess. Nothing to write home about. I've had better quality and better service. Bottom line.... Kadori is 10 minutes up the road. Go there. You'll be happy you did.

The wife and I frequent Kobe's quite often. They serve the best sushi at the most reasonable prices of any place I've come across. Great vibe and service all add to the pleasant experience. They sometimes run out of bananas for the tempura desert which is a shame because they are soo good...but this discrepancy does not warrant a deduction of a full star and we still frequent this spot on average twice a week.

DUDE this is the spot in Waldorf! It's hard for me to find worthwhile places to eat when I'm in the area but this place so my new go-to. First off, I am just sold on the $5 DRINK SPECIALS! Long Islands, sake, mai tai, martinis, maragritas... i think there is a total of 10 drink options, basically all the classic cocktails. Not only are the drinks cheap, but they are SO good. They are strong and not too sweet. They're made really well. Secondly, the sushi is great too. I am no sushi expert, but I loved everything I had. The Godzilla roll, sashimi platter, the shrimp tempura roll... I can't remember what else I got. I cannot wait to back to try out the other unique rolls they have! This place is the jam and I want to go back already.

Consistently delicious earns Kobe its 5th star. As beau put it "I find it hard to be disappointed here." Bartender is also super sweet. Order the firehouse roll, you won't be disappointed!

I love Japanese style hibachi. This particular Kobe location isn't as nice/well-serviced as others I've visited, but it gets the job done. Personally, I prefer Fuji Mountain Steak House, I think Kobe is a but overrated.

Being a "restaurant person" it was an internal struggle to satisfy my sushi craving an hour before they closed on a Sunday! They could have not been more gracious if they tried and the quality of the food was AMAZING! This is a must try! Everything from the dumplings to the fried rice and all the rolls in between those courses were amazing! I will be back!!!

Went here for a lunchtime celebration and wasn't disappointed. This is lunch and a show!! Our chefs were humorous and a joy to watch. I definitely recommend getting the fried rice instead of the white and go for the steak! I do agree with a couple others that the soup they serve leaves a bit to be desired on the palette, but that is just a very small item in my eyes. The price is a bit steep, I don't think I would come back for dinner when the entrees jump in price, almost double, for lunch though this is great.

Yea, I definitely could give this place five stars based on the food alone but the service was meh. I read one review where they said the waitress did everything...they were right. Went I visited she was the hostess, cashier, bartender, and server. Ridiculous. Especially when the place started getting busier. I sat at the bar and although she was somewhat friendly, she looked very taxed and stressed. She needs help. Fast. Anyway, the sushi was absolutely scrumptious!!! I ordered the Tuna Martini, Avocado Salad, Super Kobe and Out of Control Roll. Everything was delicious, but surprisingly the appetizer, Tuna Martini, stole the show. It was great; just superb. I also had a Mai Tai and the alcohol was up front and center stage. Loved it. Would definitely return.

Best hidden sushi spot!!! Sushi always made on the spot! Never had a bad experience. Offers great lunch specials!! Awesome atmosphere, a bit of DC in southern maryland. There is one things I do not like though. The soup that comes with the meals. Ughhh tastes like chicken broth with a melted crayon in it. Other than that, delicious!!

  • Kelli.Big W.

Awesome food. They are currently really tight staff so the hostess was also the bartender, server and took to go orders. However, she kept her cool and no one was upset. We will definitely be back!

Bartender makes drinks too strong. Sushi made me sick. Hibachi was plain and boring. Onion soup was too bold. I guess it's what you would expect in waldorf

So I finally decided to go eat here after seeing some reviews about it. It is a small quaint place, but nice ambiance with the bar, sushi bar, and limited dining room seating. I decided to sit at the bar and watch the game on tv, which they have two of, and ordered a manhattan. Was kinda surprised she didn't know how to make, but was still ok after I told her how to make it. I've seen a lot of people talk about how long it took to get their food, but it was normal time to get sushi in my opinion. Their menu had quite a selection of sushi rolls, which was nice. I got the sashimi deluxe and rainbow roll. The sashimi was a nice size cut, and the rainbow roll was ok, but better than most places. They brought out the miso soup and salad before the food came out. The soup broth was great, but was lacking amount of chives, tofu and seaweed. The salad had a different dressing than what I'm used to, but still was good. I liked the cucumber in it as well. Overall, I will be back. Some people have compared it to Kodori, and I to me they seem pretty similar sushi-wise, though I may still prefer Kodori on sashimi. Perhaps I will try other items on the menu when I go back, but I may stick with the sushi.

This is my regular "go to" spot. I have been here hundreds of times and have never been disappointed with the food or service. Sushi rolls are well prepared, fresh and delicious! The Kobe wings, Kobe shrimp, soft shell crab and calamari are outstanding!!!! I am so thankful for the yelp review that led me to this "hidden jewel" right in the heart of Waldorf!

Good always fresh and they have the best bento box I've ever had. I've been going to this spot since they opened in 2011, highly recommend.

I came here thinking it was going to be like the place I spent my birthday at in Orlando, disappointed that there were no grills to watch the cook in front of you. Then I thought well maybe the food will still be the same no matter if I watch being cooked or not. First off the onion soup was so spicy it burnt my throat I looked at it and see spices at the bottom of it I may have gotten the last batch of spill but it was all spices. Then when I waited for food it came out and I was disgusted with everything. I had to pay extra for noodles and I got filet and my boyfriend got sirloin. They both looked the same, it tasted awful so squishy not much flavor the rice was gushy same with the noodles and the fried veggies were not even fried it's like someone stuck them in the microwave. After the first bites I quit eating and was so mad I had to pay that much plus a tip on top of it. I will never go there again way too much money for dog shit. They didn't even have white sauce to dip anything in! What a waste.. Wish I could give it a quarter of a star..

We had the Kobe Roll, Sweet Dream, and American Dream rolls and they were top notch. Absolutely delicious!!! I really wish we had a sushu place like this closer to Pax River. Whenever we make it to Waldorf we always try to swing by for some sushi.

  • Rachel A.

I'll spare you the details to the slow service...just don't expect to get greeted, place your order, receive drinks/food in a normal amount of time. But when you are FINALLY served, the food will be delicious! We had the edamame and vegetable tempura as an appetizer (though the tempura didn't arrive until after our entrees), the volcano roll, chicken udon noodles, and Thai iced teas. Sadly they don't give refills on Thai iced tea :-( Boo. Maybe next time we will get it to go?

This place was absolutely awesome. The atmosphere is absolutely relaxing and laid back. The service was fast and friendly. The portions are great especially for the price. Its quiet in the afternoons which makes it a nice hideaway. I will be back

We usually do not get Sushi at places we don't know well but we gave this a try. It was good. A few of the rolls I've not seen at other places and they were great and a few we get all the time we're not as good. I loved their onion soup and the chicken bento box was good. The service was good.

The Sushi here is rolled perfect and tastes excellent. My 13 year old daughter had the California roll and Boston roll which see ate everything. I had the Philly roll and baked California roll which were also excellent. I can't wait to come back.

Wasn't sure where it was located, but it was simple enough to find. Good parking, and we didn't have a wait at all (pleased, as it was 7pm on a Thursday). We were seated immediately, and I was impressed with their menus (white ink on black cardstock and bound with ropes omg FANCY). All of the food was good, and the presentation was amazing. For the area, this is probably the prettiest Japanese food you'll be able to find. One of my appetizers was tuna and salmon sashimi with mango, served inside a cucumber bowl/tubey-thing. It was good and SO PRETTY. My sushi was gorgeous, too, and CAME WITH LIGHTS. WHAT. I had a glowing icecube with noodles artfully arranged on my plate, and it was ridiculously exciting (I was also the only one at my table to get it, so poo on everyone else WADDUP). I tried an eel roll, Sex on the Beach roll, Sweet Dream roll and the smoked salmon and everything was delicious (although the Sweet Dream roll wasn't GREAT but that's because mango+sushi kind of weirded me out, I think). Will definitely go back again!

My better half and I ordered the bento box and steamed shrimp dumplings. All the food was really fresh and good. We were happy that we finally found a place with fresh sushi close to our house. I have had better shrimp dumplings but they weren't terrible. We will be back.

  • Elizabeth W.

Please skip this place. The place was empty and we had to wait to get seated, 20 min to get our drink order taken, and an hr to get food. The food was awful. I would rate it lower than what you would get at the grocery store. Some of the fish wasn't distinguishable. In one roll it looked like canned tuna fish. In short we will never return. We had to ask for refills and had to wait for carry out orders to be filled before he would acknowledge us.

Our staff frequently eats lunch at this sweet sushi spot in Waldorf. Great sushi chef and great service. The bar drinks could be better. They don't seem to have a very knowledgeable bartender. The fried rice could also be better but a good deal for a lunch bento box at $9.00. You can even upgrade your roll in the bento box. The tempura is light and fabulous. 4 stars for the decor. They could put one teppanyaki grill in the room and might fare better. Would hope this review upgrades to 5 stars after they are open a little longer.

Our visit was horrible. The restaurant really wasn't very busy, but service was incredibly, ridiculously slow. We took my siblings and our kids out, and ordered a basic selection of sushi- mostly kid-friendly, simple rolls. It took almost an hour for our food to come out! LIke I said, it was SLOOOOW. There was one server who was busting her butt, practically running around the whole place alone. A male manager, another man who appeared to be a bartender, and a lady (hostess?) were chatting and doing things here and there. There were two men preparing sushi, and more people in the back prepping whatever they needed/deep-frying, etc. And still it took freaking forever to get our food. We even ordered some edamame, and it took about 20-25 minutes for a small bowl to finally make it to our table. The food was not worth the wait- not at all! The descriptions on the menu were absolutely not indicative of everything they put in the rolls. In California, they put avocado on many rolls- it's one of their main fillers. HEre, apparently the thing to do is to put cucumber in every single roll. Except there's a problem with that- I'm HUGELY allergic to cucumber! (only mildly allergic to avocado, but that's what Benedryl is for. Benedryl or EpiPen...? Hmmm, easy choice I think!) Anyway, it took a stupid amount of time for them to make two small rolls for me that didn't have cucumber (STILL not busy- on a Friday night. Should this have been our first red flag?) The poor server was flying around the place as we were getting ready to leave, after having been there for 2 hours and spending almost $100 on crappy good... and she slipped on something and fell and slammed either her knee or her elbow. I felt terrible for her. I slipped her an extra tip because I tipped VERY poorly on the bill. She busted her butt that night, and nobody else lifted a finger to help her. I didn't want her hard-earned tip going to the bartender or sushi chefs, hostess, or busser, who sat back and let her do all the hard work. Bleck... just avoid it. It's no good!

  • Carlin W.

If you are looking for a place where they grill the food in front of you then this is not the place. They prepare it in the back. I wish they would have stated that instead of being somewhat misleading.

Any Waldorf-ian looking for Suhsi, look no further. His bar seems 100% dedicated the sushi freshly prepared in your face. I even believe they deliver, but I'm not sure. Great place for sushi in Waldorf!!

  • Brian F.

I'm here about once a week. Staff is AWESOME and welcoming. Sushi is very well priced and a great selection. Decor is very cool. Take out orders are on time. I got a 30 piece takeout tray once and it was ready at the exact time I requested. I wasn't premade either and chilled. Plus, the HD TVs at the bar are great for free UFC fights. I use to go to Kadori religiously. If you like that, you'll love Kobe.

Grabbing a quick to go bite...soft shell crab and sauce crispy and yummy...However the veggie tempura was a bit undercooked and not as crisp as it should have been (broccoli in particular). I removed the breading! Might try again to give other items a fair shake but not going out of my way to go back...more updates later.

We love Kobe for Sushi. Their sushi rolls menu is fantastically inventive and very extensive giving my husband many pleasant delicious choices each time we visit. My son likes the hibachi teriyaki salmon dish with really good fried rice. I get the bento box if I am extra hungry, otherwise fill up on their orders. This restaurant's Japanese food is excellent, beautifully presented on nice white platters, and generous in portions. After a dozen of visits, I took a chance to order their 30 wings appertizer and it was a great, marinated chicken wings coated with a batter tempura style which has a unique well seasoned taste. My husband and nine years old son couldn't stop eating and raving about them! The only thing they do less well is the soup department. Kodori and Joe's noodle house do better with Asian soups so I stick with them when in need of great soups. They do a good bit of takeout too as the patrons can either quickly pick up previously called in orders or wait at the very nice well stocked bar to watch TV while their sushi is being fixed! This place is neighborhood gem four stars for Waldorf.

I'm so tempted to give Kobe 5 stars because finding anything that is actually delicious, unique and is not a chain restaurant in Waldorf is like finding a needle in a haystack. However, to be true to my fellow Yelpers, I will give this one a 4 based on comparison with other sushi places. The food is really great - and it was a completely unexpected find. The rolls are made tightly enough that they don't fall apart, they use very fresh ingredients, the wait staff is always exceptionally friendly and aren't overbearing, and they're very prompt at bringing your food out. They have a lot of specialty rolls, but even their standard spicy tuna roll is well done and nicely presented. If you're looking for quality sushi, with a nice-but-casual atmosphere (especially in the Waldorf area) and where you aren't going to have to wait in a long line, this is the place to go.

Came in to try the sushi. Did not have high hopes. Strip mall. Waldorf. Just wasn't looking forward to being disappointed. We even had a back up plan. Thank God we didn't need it. The Kobe roll was just what the dr. Ordered. Good sushi. Very good price. Pleasant staff. You can bet we will be back.

Good, but not great. Worth a try. I rated it a 3 for 2 reasons: - Food was OK - Service was good If I was back home in CA I would have rated this place a 2. But I know this area lacks good restaurants like Kobe. I went here on Monday at about 5:30pm. Upon entering it was empty, but by the time we left the place was filling in nicely. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. What we ordered: - Gyoza Pan Fried: $4.50 for 5 pieces. WHAT! They were 5 little pieces!! They weren't bad tasting but they weren't screaming excellence. I could have been just as satisfied with a bag of these from Sam's Club. - Godzilla Roll: $11.00 for, supposedly 2 deep fried rolls, but we received what looked like 1 roll of 6 pieces. Again, it wasn't bad tasting, it just didn't seem like 11.00 dollars worth. - Hibachi Chicken: $11.00, it was a good portion but the chicken was very dry and there was barely any sauce. It didn't taste bad over all though. - Hibachi Steak: $13.00 + $1.00 for extra fried rice, it was also good and the steak was very very tender. If only it had been super flavorful. It was borderline bland, but overall it was still good because it was so juicy from the tenderness of the meat. Overall total was $42.93 with my husband and I feeling like wow that was a lot for a meal that left much to be desired. We probably will not be coming back anytime soon, but I do think it is worth a try. You may like it. The atmosphere is really nice, with big screen TVs all around. If anything it is a very pretty bar, I wouldn't mind coming here for drinks.

Pros: Great service. Staff was very attentive, but didn't hover. Food came out quickly and was FRESH! (Got the sirloin steak hibachi. Perfectly cooked.) Presentation was nice. Not crowded. Food tasted great. Very reasonable prices. Cons: The place smelled like a deep fryer. Not overpowering, but when we left our clothes smelled like oil.

Great food and polite service. The place is clean and spacious. I definitely plan on making this a hang out spot for my friends and I since it's in walking distance and probably the only decent restaurant for a few miles. The food was spot on and made quick but not too quick. I enjoyed the atmosphere though more music and less TV would be nice. Maybe that's your thing. Either way, I want this place to stick around.

Just what the Waldorf needed. That place in the mall isn't where it's at. Kobe is excellent !

I had lunch here with one of my girlfriends. The servince was great! Drinks were always refilled. Very attentive staff. Dragon roll was great. Volcano roll was awesome. There's a roll I can't remember but it had mango slices and eel in it. THAT was amazing!!!! I never thought eel would be so... appetizing. Just thinking about it makes me want to curb my craving. If only I didn't hurt my back moving furniture, etc, around last night, I would be at Kobe... grrrrrr.

  • Havin' D.

The food here is pretty decent so I will not comment on that. Kobe has a website and an online menu on the site which is nice and easy to navigate. However, do not use it to order anything as your order goes to Narnia or Middle Earth or Xanadu as the resteraunt does not receive the order, which was perplexing as I got an order number and confirmation. So basically if you do not dine in, order at the counter or call the listed number. Cheers.

My favorite japanese restaurant in Southern MD. Their sushi is always fresh and the staff is always friendly. My favorite roll is the volcano roll. The bento box in every variation is great. Prices are very reasonable. They have a lot to choose from on the menu. You won't be disappointed!

Looking for a clean, local place for decent sushi and hibachi? This is it! Good sushi, great value, and excellent bento boxes- very flavorful and tender steak, sticky rice, and fresh rolls. Would love if they turned the music down, or had a different choice in music. Otherwise, a gem in Smallwood.

When we moved to Maryland, everybody told us that to get good sushi, you have to travel the 45 minute traffic-ridden trek to D.C. We tried one place in town, and instantly knew what our friends meant. Then a few months ago, Kobe opened. Hoping for a miracle, we tried it. While not a miracle, we have had better sushi, it is pretty solid. One thing it does stand out on is bang for your buck! My wife and I order the Sushi Party Platter A. Any eight regular rolls on their menu for 32.00! It typically fills us up pretty well, my wife usually doesn't finish it actually. Really Great Value and the service is prompt and friendly. Highly recommend Kobe for taste, value and service!

Really good lunch deal! I went there last Thursday with my family. Found this spot on Yelp and thought we should check it out. The sushi menu is pretty extensive, so we had a hard time deciding. We got the sushi lunch special to share and I had the hibachi shrimp lunch special for my entree. The soup and salad were good, the fried California and crispy salmon rolls were delicious and per my family members, the hibachi specials were too. We had steak, shrimp and chicken. Kobe's is my new eating spot for sure.

Lunch...Saturday...yuck. The sushi at Safeway is better than this place. Tables were filthy, floor was sticky and there was an odd substance on my chair. Extremely understaffed, one girl and the sushi chef. The one girl that was working kept running outside to talk on her phone. The people who rated this place high must either work there, have no idea what real sushi tastes like, or just have poor taste. The only positive thing I can say is that the bar is extremely well stocked. Drive into Alexandria and go to Momo if you want good sushi.

By far the best sushi place in town. I used to have to drive all the way into DC to get decent sushi but no more. Its a bit small but it's clean and very attractive inside. I have been here several times already and while I can't vouch for their hibachi entrees (because I have always gotten a sushi dish) the sushi was always beautifully prepared and presented. The staff was quite nice to boot. I recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi.

  • Natasha B.

I've become a regular at Kobe -- this is hands down the best sushi in town. Their specialty rolls are reasonably priced, and the sushi is always filling and well made with a nice presentation. I've also tried a couple of the hibachi entrees and was pleased with those options too. The place has a nice atmosphere for either regular dining or sitting at the bar. Most importantly, the staff provide excellent customer service.

I ate here a few weeks ago. I thought I had reviewed it, but I don't see it. So, re-review. I stopped with my wife and 6 year old daughter. I generally get my sushi from DC or make my own. I was impressed with the price and quality of the rolls. The place is small, and there was the sushi chef and one waitress. She did keep checking her cell phone as one reviewer mentioned. My daughter had the hibachi chicken meal. It was good. I would like to go back and sit at the sushi counter with some friends and just chill. I did not notice any cleanliness issues. I will be returning, or at least getting rolls to go in the future.

This place has a really good lunch menu. I went there the other night, and the service was kind of slow - but it was well worth it in the end. This place is so much better in food and cost then the other places in waldorf, md. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi.

I discovered this place soon after they opened last year and quickly became a fan. When Kodori isn't open (Sunday's) or if I've been to Kodori too many times during the week, I go to this place. It's quiet. The salmon sushi is excellent...very fresh and the rice that they use is very flavorful and different from other sushi places. They have good choices in Japanese lunch boxes (excellent jasmine fried rice) and they have roll specials for lunch (two rolls for $8.00 and three rolls for $11...you also get soup and a salad with them). The hostess is always very nice. The atmosphere/decor of the restaurant and bar is modern and "lounge-y" in feel (dark wood, dim lights, flat screen TV's. I don't drink but a Full service bar is available. Their prices are slightly higher than some other Japanese/Asian restaurants in Waldorf, but its worth every penny! My only complaint is that service can be slow (even when the place is practically empty). But the friendliness of the owners, quality of the food and atmosphere all make up for it.
