Chicken Rico Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

The food has been consistent and great. Although the customer service (and english) can be improved, the food makes up for it. I'm very satisfied with the food that I've eaten. I've had the chicken with almost every side, the rico salad, the lomo and chicken saltado (my personal favorites), the papa rellena, and the ceviche de pescado. Some people complain about the time it takes to cook the dishes, but that's exactly how long it takes any restaurant that makes your food to order. This isn't a McDonalds where they just place pre-packed meat between buns. Nothing in the menu is pre-cooked to speed up the cooking time - well... nothing but the charcoal chicken (which takes about 1 hour to cook). Still to me it is worth the wait.

I went opening day and the line was out the door. I had the half chicken with fries and chicken fried rice. It was delicious. The chicken was juicy and very tasty. The restaurant reminded me of Guapos. Guapos has more menu options. The second time I went the chicken was dry. I went in the day time. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first time. I went a third time and tried the steak sub. It was very good especially with the green sauce. I would recommend trying this place at least once.

There comes a time when you are put in a position to try something new even though you already know what you're in for. Another boring piece of chicken. Well , tonight was not boring. Friends hit me up and asked me to grab a bite with them. Sure! Where are we going. Chicken Rico. Oh. Umm. Ok I guess. Where is that? They got there ahead of me. When asked what I would like, whatever you guys get. The Carne Asada was like butter. Tender. Flavorful. Green beans cooked just right. Mashed potatoes were good too. Impressive. The only down side that I could complain about. The building needs a little maintenance. Electrical needs a peep because the flickering light over my head and the light in the entrance were very distracting. All in all a good spot. Looking forward to trying other menu items soon.

First, I do need to say that I have never had Peruvian chicken...so I don't have anything to compare Chicken Rico to...genre-wise. My husband, 3 year old, and I stopped at Chipotle today. The line was ridiculous, so we thought we would try Chicken Rico instead. I'm glad we did. I had grilled chicken. My husband ordered the beef hearts. Both were very good and flavorful; definitely spicy enough for me and not too spicy for a kid. Portions sizes were also very good. I would definitely stop here again. We paid just under $20 for 2 large entrees with sides. I think the food and the value was better than Chipotle.

I love Peruvian chicken. With that said, Chicken Rico provides its patrons with intensely flavorful chicken, that has the crispiest skin. The yucca is light and perfectly fried. Black beans are perfectly seasoned and go well with rice. Last night I tried their dessert special, the Sweet Potato Cake. Let me just say it was the definition of decadence. It was moist, like a rum cake (which they also offer!), it had a beautiful light orange color, and had swirls of icing piped on the top (maybe butter cream?). I could only eat half of it after indulging in the fine chicken entree (and I did not want the cake to be over just yet!). If you're a fan of chicken and want to support a local business in Charles County (where it seems chain restaurants dominate), I highly recommend Chicken Rico! :)

I have been in the area for a month now and have eaten the Peruvian style chicken about 8 times....needless to say I love it. This is by far the best of the 4 restaurants I have tried. The dark meat chicken is some of the best chicken I have had, but all of the chicken in these places are great. The big difference for me is the sides at Chicken Rico. They are far better than all of the others. The yuka is perfect, the rice and beans a smash hit, and the sauces are top notch. The smell when you first walk in this place is awesome. The staff is super friendly. I will definitely be coming back!!

I'm so happy they have Peruvian in Waldorf now! Their green beans are to die for! The chicken is always good as well. I love that they have some options for side orders as well, most of which are pretty good.

I love this place! The chicken is phenomenal and the sides are as well. I always get the 1/4 dark chicken, chicken fried rice and creamy spinach. I always mix the green sauce and the yellow sauce together which creates a simply heavenly flavor. Flavor and more flavor is what you will get at this place. Who cares if the english isn't so great. They could speak fluent Japanese for all I care and I'd still come here! I will also add the staff is always very nice. If you like Peruvian food or have never tried it, you are so missing out. You will kick yourself for driving past this place! It is really that good :) lol

The Peruvian chicken is definitely on point!!! Tender and flavorful! I had the white rice and black beans which were also really good. So far the best Peruvian have had in SoMd. And the price was right!

  • Gary R.

I had the 1/4 chicken (white) with the brown rice and mixed vegetables. The chicken was delicious although the "cut" was a little skimpy. Careful with the green sauce, it has kick but not a lingering burn. The jury is still out on the yellow sauce. The rice was very tasty and the mixed vegetables were a pleasant surprise. Usually when I order mixed vegetables I do it strictly because it's healthy and I don't really expect much in the way of taste & flavor. These mixed vegetables were actually pretty darn good. I would definitely eat here again when I'm in the area.

Oh my, I never knew what I was missing. For years I've been ambivalent about chicken--I typically find it boring and bland, despite seasonings and sauces. Chicken Rico kicks the ass of every other chicken I've eaten. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with the most delicious scent of spices--cumin and chili powder, some garlic and the deeper notes of fried plantains. It's actually a good thing the menu is somewhat limited, but not overly so, because otherwise it would be impossible to decide on anything. And that doesn't mean there's no variety, oh no; in addition to the charcoal chicken, they offer steak, beef heart, fried fish, burgers and subs. So tonight dad ordered the 1/4 white charcoal chicken with white rice and steamed veggies. I chose the Bisteck a lo Pobre, which came with rice, plantains, fries and a couple fried eggs. Mine was magnificent, especially the flavors in the rice and the steak--don't get me started about the plantains, I'll be here for a year, seriously--and the two little bits I got from dad were out of this world. And the portions are huge, so if you leave hungry, shame on you!

Soooo good! These are the first words that escape my lips as I bite into the Peruvian chicken. This is by far the best I've had. I ordered the 1/4 chicken and two sides (rice and plantains) which was good too. My only regret is that I didn't get the half chicken! I wanted more it was so tender and seasoned so well. I will be returning :) two thumbs up in my book.

Delicious. Utterly and absolutely delicious. They've been open less than a week so I can tell that they're still working out some kinks. The food took a little longer to come out than I would have liked and there were still some boxes out that they were trying to find a home for, but that's to be expected. Once they sort that out they'll be rocking it. The charcoal ovens are awesome and add to the atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful. What I assume was the owner or a manager came to see us twice while we ate and she was super helpful. The food: I had the carne asada steak with rice and plantains. The wife had the boneless chicken with mashed potatoes and plantains. The potatoes were a little runny and tasted like they could have been instant. The gravy was incredible though. The plantains were so good that I don't know that I could order them anywhere else and be satisfied. The steak was well cooked, but could have used a tad more seasoning for my palate. The chicken was awesome. Juicy, flavorful, and well cooked. We plan on going back often.

I thought the Chicken was very good. My wife and I each had Plantains which I liked but she did not. I had green beans which were ok, she liked them more than I did. She had fries which were ok but not super warm. The issue I had was that all the sides were on steam tables and had that kind of consistency. I would have liked sides that lived up to the chicken. I would probably go back if I wanted chicken but I wouldn't seek this out as my 'go to' place.

  • N H.

There's just nothing special about this place that would make me return. The other two Peruvian spots in Waldorf are 100% better - more authentic, more flavorful. That's all I've got.

  • John T.

Visited this place on a weekday lunch break. Chicken was charcoal grilled. However, there was no taste of charcoal grill flavor at all due to chicken being marinated with too much spices.. I ordered beef too,it tasted same like it was done with chicken's spices too.

I usually love coming but the customer service or lack there of I received today was unacceptable. I arrived an hour before closing and it was obvious the staff wanted to go home. They literally threw my food into the container. If that wasn't enough they also broke the seal so that it wouldn't close. I explained that I was traveling to baltimore and was concerned that the food would spill out. Evidently my concern annoyed them. They young girl waiting on me had far to much attitude.....she was darn rude. I doubt I'll return.

I went to a Chicken Rico in Herndon VA and it just sucked. I was excited to see this going into Waldorf. The line was out the door! I t was worth the wait. The chicken was perfect and the sides we got where prepared excellent. I will take the family here again for sure. I hope they keep up the quality like it is now. Waldorf has a habit of sucking all the good out of restaurants and making me not want to go to them any more.

  • Katy B.

Soo good! I love peruvian food especially the chicken plantains & yuca! The service was fast despite the line being out the door. All the staff is so friendly and great, the chicken is amazing and I didn't get to try a menu item but it all looked really good. They have a variety of sides unlike other peruvian restaurants. Puts brasas and Tastee chicken to shame!

This review is for the regular...The chicken. I usually prefer El Pollo Rico, but since I'm trapped (live in) Waldorf, I thought I'd give Chicken Rico a try. Chicken was fresh, moist and full of flavor. Plenty of sides to choose from, but wasn't impressed. The chicken and the smokey smells were on point. The place was packed, but the line moves.

  • Jacqueline T.

Best Peruvian chicken in the DMV. The chicken was perfectly cooked and super juicy. The plantains were so delicious. But I'd have to say my favorite part is their spicy sauce. Can't get enough of that stuff. Definitely adding to my list of regular spots.

I have always seen this place...... Never went in, but after seeing a few Yelpers that I follow, who reside in and around my area give it decent marks, I said why not. Went today with son after we came from the bookstore and it was decent. Had 1/2 chicken 2 sides that we shared and he also wanted to try the steak and chicken sub, which was soooooo tasty. We liked it, food was fresh, chicken moist flavorful to the bone. Black beans ok, needed a little salt in my opinion... But salt is not good for you anyway.....so beans are good as they are. I had the yuca which was cooked well, not overdone and dried out. The little sauce (yellow) is different from what I am used to...... As I normally eat crispnjuicy chicken and mild sauce out by my job......but I liked it ok. I did like the green sauce.....normally I don't cause of the spice but this was just right. My fountain soda tasted like regular soda... Not watered down like some places AND place was very clean and staff were cleaning as patrons left tables. About 20 for two people with leftovers and staff were nice, I would go back, next time going to try the Rico Salad. And.... Unlike the other chicken place by my job they are not stingy with sauce.....I don't like to take more than I know I will use.....so it won't be wasted.....but if you ordering like half a chicken or more you need more than two sauces as the containers are small. Thank you for being generous and not denying me an extra sauce....or charging me for one extra small sauce when I've already spent 20 bucks......people remember little things like this, so I will be back:)

This was my second time at Chicken Rico and the line was out the door again! This place is crazy popular right now despite there being several other options in Waldorf for Peruvian chicken. Was not very impressed with the half chicken this time either. I would suggest double-check in your order if you get carry out too... My friend ordered shredded chicken but got something entirely different.

Came here for lunch the other day and decided to give Rico another try. We came during the first couple of weeks of their opening and thought the food was just mehh. Place was crowded and the dining room pretty dirty. Well, looks like they did a complete 180 degrees because the food was absolutely fantastic. I was saying to myself is this the same place? Ordered the 1/4 chicken white with brown rice and plantains on the side. The servings are plentiful and they don't skimp on the portions! The chicken was probably the best seasoned chicken I ever had. Seriously, I figured they must season and smoke these hens for several days. Even better than what I usually grill at home. Plantains were awesome and the rice was pretty good. All of this massive food for under 8 bucks? Oh yes..Service was great and dining room was clean. I will definitely return and it was a pleasant surprise compared to the mediocre food I tried at Waku down 301.

also mediocre, like Waku chicken. too hot last time I was there too. like, almost as hot as outside and the line is always long.

I really wanted to like this place. The flavor is good. They cooked the chicken to perfect done-ness. The service is quickish, and the pricing is fine, but sadly, this is the saltiest food I've eaten in a long time. The chicken is overwhelmingly salty. The condiments are saltier still. Next time I will try some of their other offerings and hope for the best. Everybody loves chicken, and everyone (okay, most, not all) wants a healthy alternative to fast food that's just as fast. There are a couple other Peruvian places in Waldorf that also miss the mark in some way. One of them doesn't look too sanitary, but the chicken is good. The other place offers the best chicken of all three, but it's "fancy" and they are excruciatingly slow when ordering to go food. Oh well :(

  • Crystal H.

They Man and I went in here on a Thursday afternoon and enjoyed their food a great deal! You could smell the white charcoal and smoke smell from the parking lot! And needless to say, the chicken was very good! The people working here were very friendly and eager to serve! There is a language barrier, so you may have to pull out your elementary school Spanish lessons out your back pocket! And you thought you would never really use it! Good thing my preschooler is taking Spanish lessons as well, so my vocab was fresh in my mind! However, they were very nice and the food was very good! No complaints from this girl!

Great authentic food! Chicken is moist, yuca is delicious! Nice variety of sides! Staff was patient as we decided what sides to get and changed our minds on our drinks. Quiet atmosphere. Great restaurant and staff!!!

I checked this place out last night and was not really impressed. Me and my daughter shared the 1/4 chicken, chicken rice and mixed veggies. The chicken was good and the skin was flavorful as expected BUT the rice was horrible! The mixed veggies weren't seasoned so that wasn't the best. Hours later me and my 2 year old daughter stomach started hurting and my night ended up on the toilet . Soooooo we will not be visiting this place again.

  • Cindy T.

Let's see. I dropped by Chicken Rico again today for dinner because you could smell the aroma from Target! I ordered something different. Yes, I strayed again. I ordered the Pollo Parrillero. The menu describes it as "Grilled chicken deboned marinated in Peruvian special sauces." First, it was not deboned. Marinated yes. It WAS tasty, but it was a thigh and leg, with 2 side orders. I paid $9.01. It's better to order the 1/2 chicken for $8.99. I thought I would get more chicken than what I paid and "deboned" as the menu describes. Oh, well. Better luck next visit.

I love this place, best Chicken in Waldorf. Seriously where has this place been all my life. If I was ever going to leave my wife for a chicken dish it would be one from Chicken Rico. Eating here is like a spiritual awakening. All of my friends and coworkers who've ate here agree. I've thought about starting up a Chicken Rico religion but I fear that others in the congregation would just eat our bible made of chicken. Oh and try the fried yucca it's better than fried potatos.

Tasty Peruvian chicken has come to the area! The chicken is consistently well spiced and cooked well. The customer service is friendly. They have all of the usual sides, including some great platanos - very moist! Chicken Rico also cooks delicious specialties to order. Our favorite is the papas rellenas! Bring your appetite!

This is a new and recently opened location for this chain in Waldorf. My order included the chicken, yucca and fried rice. The chicken was flavorful and tasty! I would return to check out other menu offerings.

I've been here twice now. If you order anything off the menu besides the actual rotisserie chicken expect to wait about 30-40 minutes for Togo!. The staff either have poor customer service or they hardly speak a lick of english. I've ordered the chicken sub which when it comes out right is delicious. Make sure you have them repeat the order other wise it will most likely come out wrong. I love the chicken here but its not worth the wait nor the headache that comes with this place.

Web site states they are open at 10am. They opened the doors to say it would be 30 mins before they have any food ready. I have yet to try the food but giving one star due to the fact that they say they are open at 10am and yet I have to wait to get any food.

I pass this place often and decided to try it simply because of the reviews.I ordered the Pollo Parillero, which was fantastic. Along with the fried plantains and mashed potatoes and they were both great. My husband Bisteck a la pobre and he seemed to like his meal too. We both had the sweet potato cake and it was heavenly. Christian, the cashier, helped me take my to go meal to my car since I had my hands full with two kids under two - one in the stroller and the other in my arms. Thanks, Christian!

Been around the world and this is one of the best in rotisserie chicken. The smoky flavor, crisp skin and moist chicken are hard to beat. The sides are tasty too. The plantain and yucca are cooked to perfection. Perfect meal for a family of four with sides and drinks. Simple, healthy and easy.

    (5)
  • Josette R.

The food was really good and not too expensive. The customer service need some work but overall I would recommend anyone to go there. What made the experience even better, the have sweet potato cake. OMG, it's t die for. If you go there that's a must have!

  • Frank G.

Plenty of seats and good quick food. Stopped here for lunch and there was no line and I was eating in 2 minutes. I am a fan of the crispier skin like this location. All Peruvian chicken spots are not created equal. For my 1st this sis in my list of the better group. My recommendation is ready all you can add is not the same the next day. The crisp on the chicken is gone. Flavor still there. The vegis were over cooked. The one with the broccoli and coli flower. Wasn't a fan at all.

First stop at Chicken Rico, and I have to say I will be stopping again for sure when in the area. On our vist we had the 1/2 chicken with a side of mashed potatos and beans. Everything was really flavorfull, and delicious. As far as fast food style places go this is top notch, and a must stop while driving through Waldorf. If you want some great chicken at a great price look no further than Chicken Rico!

  • Jennifer N.

The chicken, black beans, and rice were very flavorful. My hubby loved his sub. Also, I had a bite of his fries which were perfect- crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. It is definitely worth giving this place a try.

  • Alicia D.

I don't know a thing about Peruvian chicken, thus the reason for stopping in. I've been eye balling the place when I drive by and had checked out the reviews. It was finally time. Omg.... I would be 10lbs heavier had I discovered this place sooner. We got the half chicken with plantains and the Carne asada with plantains and cucumber salad. The flavor of the chicken was lick your fingers delicious. The plantains (one of my favorite dishes) were perfectly done. The carne asada had great flavor but if I had to choose I would definitely go for the chicken. The cucumber salad was just that, cucumber salad. No dressing, no frills....ehhh. Not that the chicken needed any help but do yourself a favor and mix the spicy green sauce with the milder yellow sauce for just that extra goodness!

  • Vashaan J.

I was just strolling in the Waldorf area looking for lean protein filled food when I came across this place along my route. To my knowledge, all of the Peruvian chicken businesses are all the same no matter where you go. Same seasoning on the chicken and a choice of two sides along with a Jalapeno sauce and the other one that looks like honey mustard. This place is very well kept and the staff is very friendly. Didn't have a chance to check out the bathroom on its cleanliness so no comment on that one. Overall if you enjoy Sardi's just as much as I do then you'll like this place just as well.

Passing thru omw back to Ga and decided to try the Peruvian rotisserie chicken craze that has become so popular. I tried the 1/2 white and it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Nicely seasoned. I liked dipping it in the jalapeño based hot sauce. The spicy rice and black beans were spot on . The yucca and plantains were kinda dry and meh. I enjoyed the meal that was around $10 but probably should have gotten the 1/4 meal bc it was a lot of food for a lunch. I was ready for a siesta after eating all that food. I will stop again when in the area.

  • Big L.

First time trying them out and was impressed with the taste and portions of sides. I had the 1/4 chicken white. Also the young lady at the the counter was pleasant and let me sample a side before ordering. The only negative was dining in because of the sun. They need some shades or tint because the sun shines directly in your face at the tables. I had to move and although it was better than sitting by the window, it was still hard to enjoy the food while shielding your face.

  • Jack B.

I've never tried Peruvian chicken before, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very clean and has a relaxed atmosphere. The Peruvian chicken is seasoned to perfection and you can see it cooking on skewers in the front of the store where you order. The fried yucca is like a Peruvian French fry, but thicker. I would recommend that as a side. Their sauces are prepared fresh daily and the jalapeño sauce, although spicy, tastes very fresh and delicious. If you haven't stopped by chick Rico then you are missing out on some quality food at a great price. The portions are very generous to boot!
