Went in for my wife's first Mother's Day & they didn't have any high chairs for our son. We were forced to leave & no one apologized or tried to help us. After calling to complain the manager still did nothing but say he'd tell the owner. The owner called back & offered nothing! He said "it's like sand through my hands, I can't change it." I didn't ask for anything, but very disappointed that he did nothing to help. TERRIBLE SERVICE, TERRIBLE ATTITUDES, WILL NEVER GO BACK.

This was our first time here and we'll definitely be returning. The food, service and atmosphere was so great. My filet was cooked perfectly and the chocolate fondant dessert was so delicious. The service was excellent too. The only negative was the risotto, it wasn't cooked completely.

We only come here when there is a musical act we want to see. Here's the quick down and dirty: Food: usually pretty good. You can spend between $20-$37 on a dinner entree, or you can order off the bar menu or smaller plate menu and spend around $15. Vegetarian options are available and looked good. Desserts looked good as well. Drink: Pretty decent beer selection, though a bit overpriced at $7-$8 for a 12 ox. bottle of craft beer. Nice selection of single malts, but again, horribly overpriced compared to restaurants of a similar level. Only two bourbons available. Service: usually mediocre. I can't tell if this is due to a lack of training (or maybe lack of caring on the part of the servers) or if it's because Baldwin Station management crams so many tables into the room that you can barely eat without hitting someone behind you or beside you (it's community seating: shared tables). Servers are friendly, just not very attentive or efficient. "Ambiance": Crowded. Also, I'm not sure what is wrong with the floor, but anyone walking by your table (or rather squeezing by your table) sounds like a pack of elephants and rattles your dishes. We would return, but only for a musical performance we wanted to see. Not enough to bring me back just for dinner.

What I ordered: Pork Belly Appetizer Duck breast with cinnamon glaze Swordfish with wild rice pilaf What I thought: The food was like any other three star restaurant American bistro. The Pork belly was crisp and well seasoned. The sides were all very average, middle of the road tasting. The duck breast was reasonably well prepared and so was the fish. Nothing out of the ordinary or the extraordinary. Slightly over priced for what I was getting, especially compared to other bistros that are on my frequent list. Why you would go: It used to be a train station with all the bells and whistles. Some of those remnants still exist in the restaurant to give it that quaint touch. It's romantic and small-town charming. Why I would return: If I needed another romantic getaway in Sykesville, I would probably come here with the better half again.

Stopped in last night for beer week in carroll county. Restaurant was not busy. The owner/manager was in the entrance bat area when we entered. We were not greeted by him merely stared at by him. When we said we were here for beer week....which was on their sign out front we were offered patio seating. Patio is lovely. Their beer tasting was explained to us after a LONG wait for service. Ordered an appetizer while we waited for friends, after we requested to do so. No one offered to get us drinks or appetizers while we waited. Appetizer took an extremely long time. Just put off by the whole experience there. Don't participate in beer week if you don't support the event. Poe beers people were very friendly.

I had heard wonderful things about this place. A groupon became available so a friend of mine and I went. She ordered a crab cake that was about 1/2 filler, and I had Mahi Mahi which was ok. The salads were ok, but overpriced. The greens were not the freshest. This place is charming, but way overpriced, and the food is less than so-so. I won't go back

Everything I wrote on March 30, 2013 still stands for the fall-winter-early spring experience at Baldwin's. However, warm weather is entirely different. The deck (the former train platform) is where it's at. An incredible experience in every regard. Fun programming (last night was trivia night), imaginative drinks, delectable dishes modestly prices (if modest in size - but hey it's the 2010s and who needs to eat so much?). Baldwin's deck is an award-winning experience, tasty and in a pretty, historic setting. And if a train comes by it's nothing short of memorably exciting. Sort of like the old Kingsmen song Charlie and the MTA: "...and through the open sandwich she hands Charlie a window, as the train comes rumbling through!..." Do the deck. You will not be disappointed.

Ok so, the reasoning behind this two is a bit complicated, but bear with me... So I bought a $30 for $60 groupon deal for baldwins, which was the more expensive deal they offered, but allowed us to eat any day of the week and not just weeknights. The expiration date for this deal was 8/5/15. Our schedule finally opened up for date night, so we made reservations for dinner in late July. The place itself is not pleasant. It has a very old, musty odor to it and the carpets are so dirty they have those running stains along the areas where people walk that are nearly black. It's old, dark, and there are dusty fake flowers on the tables. So that gives you an idea of the ambiance - not so good. But that didn't bother us too much, after all, it was date night! We got the menus, ordered some drinks (strawberry mojitos that were DELICIOUS!!) and checked out the menu. I was excited because it was restaurant week so they had a special prefix meal that I actually ordered. My fiancé got off the menu. When our waitress came over to take our orders and we ordered a pre-fix meal (salad, shrimp and grits, crime brûlée for dessert) for me, fiancé got a cheesesteak sub, we got an app, and those yummy mojitos. They meal was above average, we enjoyed everything. Then the check came. I handed her my phone to give her the groupon number and she says "oh, just so you know, you can't use a groupon for the restaurant week meal. Sorry." This was frustrating and a disappointment, but I understood and felt as though I likely should have mentioned we had a groupon from the start. We asked the waitress if she could speak to the manager to see if he would make an exception since the groupon was set to expire in a week. She left, came back and said that he wouldn't make an exception, but extended the groupon deal value so we could return and still get the deal. We were satisfied with that. We went back today. The very first thing we told the waitress was that we have a groupon deal, it is $60 for dinner (it was lunch time when we went) and that it was expired but we had the little card they gave us that permitted an extension. We asked her - "before we order, can you make sure they will accept this? If not, we will come back another time" (but we just wanted to use this thing and be done with it at this point!) she checked, came back and said "you're all good!" We were thrilled cause we knew exactly what we wanted! We got fish and chips (good flavor, but too greasy), a special of a fish taco trio (really good!! Diff toppings on each - but the side of rice was bland and just slapped on the plate. It just looked sad...) a black bean burger to go and a dessert. Our total came to $48. We asked for the check and that's where things went south. Suddenly a manager comes out to bring us our check. While she wasn't outwardly rude, her tone of voice and energy were very matter-of-fact and totally lacked good customer service. Keep in mind - we checked BEFORE we ordered if it would be ok to use the deal for this meal. She just came to our table, announced (loudly) she was the manager (making us feel like we'd done so thing wrong) and straight out told us they will only honor the paid value of the meal ($30) because our bill wasn't higher and they would "actually lose money" on our bill. - ok so, isn't that how a groupon works? I pay $30 and you (the company) covers another $30 worth of food - that's the deal, right?! But in this case, they would have only covered $17 worth of food...so if anything, isn't that better? Would they have rather us ordered $13 worth more? I suppose so. But regardless, to come announce this to us when we asked for the check is just ridiculous. The waitress should have mentioned early on, "they will honor it, as long as you buy $60 worth." Or at least mentioned to us, "hey, your bill right now is at $47 - do you want to order more to hit your $60 minimum?" It was handled poorly. We don't plan on going back. It's a shame cause we did enjoy the food for the most part. We have a lot of family in Sykesville and I work across from main street, so we likely would have been regulars.

We came here for a private party where we had rented out the entire place, so my review may be a bit different than others. Good service and good food led to an enjoyable night, just watch out for the train coming by! We started with cocktails at the bar, where the service was prompt and friendly. The bartender was busy but kept a smile on her face, engaging in conversation and making recommendations when needed. The servers running drinks into the main area from the bar did a great job as well. The dining experience was buffet, with servers bringing drinks to us and passing around appetizers. They were prompt and friendly and did a great job with the group. The food was all fresh and good, especially the pasta bar they had set up for us. The pretty scenerey, good food, and attentive service made this a memorable night and we'll be back for dinner soon!

I really like this place, and it's a haul to get for me to get to, but we still go about three times per year. Well prepared, nicely presented food, good service, nice atmosphere. On nice evenings we'll sit at an outdoor table and hope for a train to come by (it's a former train station so it's right next to the "B&O Old Main Line", now used by CSX). For those who whine about portions, it's not the cheesecake factory! Portions are what they should be for a fine dining restaurant. The only reason I didn't do five stars is because the menu doesn't seem to change much from visit to visit.

Went for brunch for my bday with my husband, parents and inlaws. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I got the stuffed French Toast and loved it, bit disappointed the home fries were not vegetarian though. However I substituted with fries and it was fine. The service was excellent. Towards the end a train went by and my Dad freaked out- he was like a little kid and thought it was so cool.

It was my parents 40th anniversary and wanted to take them somewhere nice without having to go into Baltimore or DC. This was a great choice by my parents. The servers and staff are very friendly and put up with our jokes. The food was very good better than many places in Baltimore or DC. We had the calamari, scallops and pork belly for starters. All were very good with the scallops the best- melting in your mouth with a great fennel salad. The mains were just as good, my husband loved his first time having short ribs, they just feel right off the bone and were so tender. Two of us had the filet which had great potatoes and sprouts with bacon. Dessert was very tasty- lava cake and cranberry bread pudding which was a special that day. There was also a free scotch tasting in the bar area that night which included Johnny Walker Blue. Definitely recommend Baldwin Station for a special occasion.

Extremely disappointing 3rd time there and NEVER again. Horrible wait staff we walked in no one looked at us. It's always so cold in there ,Why It's shocking theses restaurants are not concerned if the customers are cold. After we sat down and the other couple we were with the waitress was rude ,don't they get paid in tips? The horror story went on and on after that . The food was horrible each time we went . NEVER again !!!!!!!

OVERPRICED for VALUE RECEIVED! We arrived at 5:30 PM for our reservation. The owner? Greeted us and proceeded to direct us to a table two next to a romantic couple in the room. There were at least 10 empty tables. We requested to be seated at a nearby table for four and was informed this was reserved and the original table was the only one available. It was a table next to a window with the outside temperature at 33°. Our waitress graciously offered my wife a wrap that she had brought with her from home. Drink orders and entrées were taken. Wednesday night is "Prime Roast Night" a special of the restaurant? My wife's small plate entrée and the steak order were prepared above average! My problem was the "Prime Roast" definitely tasted more like "Choice or Top Round". Before receiving the entrée our waitress had been assigned to another room and servers completed the meal. Upon leaving we reported this to the owner who assured us it was "Prime a Roast!! "When we left only one other table was filled and the original table we requested was still vacant! We have been there several times in the past on a much different conditions!

Food was delicious. That being said, the service was awful. We had to ask for bread 3 times. The soup came out, but the waiter brought it to the wrong table. We ordered dinner, 1.5 hours later, the main course finally arrived. The waitress blamed the kitchen being overwhlmed by the amount of diners. It was a Thursday. I can't imagine what it's like on a weekend. To get the check was another trial. It put a damper on an experience that should have been 5 stars.

Second time visiting this restaurant and found it a bit disappointing. Atmosphere is nostalgic while not overdone. Service was very slow despite our early dining. We ordered the wantons which were doughy. My small plate of scallops and carbonara was heavy and oily, dessert was their signature bread pudding ...chocolate banana. I was disappointed further since it contained very little chocolate taste, hard tasteless bananas on top and None of the sauce that sets this type of dish off only ice cream. Might be looking for a new place in this area.

This is a family favorite that just seems to keep getting better and more upscale each time we visit. The bucolic setting is beautiful, especially if you are seated on the patio, where you can enjoy the river and forest views. The food was absolutely delicious - between all the members of our party, we tried the crabcakes, the rockfish, the filet of beef and the garlic shrimp and grits. Every dish was perfectly prepared and completely enjoyable. Great, friendly service all night long, in fact our waiter got into a lively discussion with my husband and father about obscure brands of bourbon, resulting in them ordering a $40 shot of Angel's Envy because it sounded so delicious (and they loved it, by the way). It's a long commute from DC, but I think it's worth the trip, even if just to get away from the standard DC dining fare.

First time to visit here after a suggestion by coworkers. Was told it was similar in atmosphere to the Iron Bridge in Howard Co. Anyway, first let me say the service was excellent as was the ambiance. We each tried different appetizers and entrees to get the most out of our first experience here. The duck liver was great, but the wild boar sausage was outstanding! Next we had the beef fillet and the sirloin. Both main portions were cooked to perfection. However, the risotto could have used more time. It was underdone to the point of being barely edible...yet the flavor of it was spot on (strange but true). For dessert we had the chocolate fondant and the creme brule'e. The creme brule'e was about average as it is only custard with carmelized sugar. It could have been punched up a bit. Now in comparison to the Iron Bridge, the only similarity is the price of entree's and the menu style. The wine selection is somewhat small, but a good range of choices to match with your meal. All in all not bad. Will be returning to check out the rest of the menu.

Went with my parents for lunch as part of Howard County Restaurant Week. We really enjoyed our meal. If you're going for RW lunch, for appetizers, the heirloom bruschetta is delicious! There's five pieces to so it's easy to share. My parents got the crab & corn chowder which was good but tooooo salty. For entrees, we got the portobello and beef/cheese sandwich. They come with kettle chips and a pickle so it's quite a large meal. We were going to get the three-course menu with dessert but after we were done with our sandwiches, yeaaaa could not handle it. If you have a small stomach, the two-course is probably enough for lunch. The service was great, all the waitstaff was very attentive. I thought it was a cute/historical place to eat (though it's kind of out of the way if you live in Columbia/EC). I'd come back for RW since their lunch is super affordable!

We went there because we were doing whole countryside tour all day. I remember this place to be warm and cozy, and the whole set up of restaurant placed in the old train station is really unique. And I had a restaurant certificate to use. The food was good, but my BF's steak came out medium, even though he ordered rare. If you're going to pay $40 for a steak, you expected it to be cooked as you ordered at least. And when we pointed it out to the server, they didn't even seem to care or take any action. Also, after we finished eating, we had to wait a long time to get a check. The place didn't seem too busy, and there were at least 4 servers, so I don't see why we had to wait that long. And the mussels in my pasta were not all good. I almost thought about asking them how fresh they were, because 2 out of 6 or 7 mussels were bad. Pork belly appetizer was great, but I felt like it took longer than it should, especially it being an appetizer. The place is still cute, but I wouldn't go back there unless someone else is paying. They do have a great selection of single malt, so maybe bar scene is better than the dining room.

The locale is an old train station in Sykesville, MD. The ambiance if fine. I was there for lunch where I had the crab and corn bisque and a sandwich of the day. Both were very good. There were not many people there on this Saturday lunchtime. And it's always hard to judge a place simply by lunch. On the whole, though, I think it's definitely worth a trip back including trying it for dinner.

This was the best brunch I've had in a long time. I had steak and eggs, coffee, and lemon sorbet for dessert. Steak and eggs comes with a little fruit and avocado slices plus home fries. It all reminded me of the good southern brunches I am used to. Even my coffee was delicious. The lemon sorbet is basically two pure white globes in a shallow bowl with berries.....too, too good and beautiful. Parking was easy, and Sykesville's Main Street is charming. The train went by once, pretty cool. Our waiter, Antonio, was so nice! Gave great dessert recommendations (bread pudding, my friend had some and it was great, not too sweet but just sweet enough, and a la mode). He said he usually works during dinner, but we felt lucky to have him at brunch on a Sunday. All of the staff were nice, though. I would definitely return. Wouldn't have ever imagined that such tasty food would be in Sykesville of all places!

Nice historic location right by the patapsco river and train tracks. Beautiful scenery but the waitstaff, bartender and host were less than impressive. They all seemed like you were bothering them when you asked for something and did not make you feel as if you were a guest in there restaraunt.

Dinner on the patio was pleasantly interrupted by a train!! Great food and cool station venue in a quaint little town. Little pricey and service is just ok. They were very quiet on a beautiful June Friday night - if they were a bit less expensive, the place might be busier. Little big off the beaten path so lower prices might attract frequent diners - like me - who need to drive 20-25 minutes to eat there.

I have been reading the mix of reviews and I am not surprised by the service concerns and complaints. Simply said service starts at the top, right? If you knew the owner you would understand why those reviews were left. I have eaten a few times at Baldwins and do usually find the food good, yes pricey and small portioned. It is certainly not our first choice. The Cork Pub or Iron Bridge always gets the nod over Baldwins. Unfortunately the owner is somewhat abrasive and treats you like you are doing him a favor by visiting his establishment. This type of attitude translates directly to his wait staff. My suggestion is to do lunch and enjoy the atmosphere and then visit the shops on the Main Street. You will save a few dollars.

What a disappointment. I had a coupon for BOGO free entree so my boyfriend and I gave it a try. We received entrees right after the soups, so needless to say the table was really crowded and the already lukewarm plates grew cooler by the minute. I ordered Eggs Chesapeake and the "poached" eggs were almost over hard, the old bay hollandaise was almost non existent, the homemade biscuit was hard as a rock and the home fries were old and oily. The crab cakes were edible but dry and flavorless. My boyfriend didn't mind his crab cake sandwich and home made chips. I only complained about the eggs to the waiter who left us hanging for long enough that we were just about finished eating by this time. He offered me 2 new eggs, but it's obviously pointless now!!! Honestly if it weren't for my boyfriend wanting to get home to watch football I would have sent back my plate! Also the "bisque" soups were more cream soups and were definitely lacking some of the ingredients as described in the menu. Overall the restaurant looked like it was being run by the teenagers working there and not in a very professional way. There was no greeting and no have a nice day when we walked through the front door. It's too bad because the building has a nice country feel. Also the table top had fake flowers and a dirty glass votive thing that wasn't lit, looked very dingy.

This is our special occassion "go to" place. I have had many anniversary dinners and milestone birthday celebrations here. I have even had them make Beef Wellington just for us. I had to make arrangements ahead of time, but it was well worth it. The food is great and the service is always wonderful. Brunch with the girls is perfect during the warm months on the outside dining area.

We went to Baldwin Station for the first time this weekend using the Living Social deal for dinner. The historic building is nice and well maintained, the town is nice to see as a old small town. The food was very good, but the portions are European, small, but plated pretty. For the price I felt dinner was over priced for the portions you received. I had the seafood pasta dish which only had 2 shrimp and 2 scallops in linguini. The cream of crab had lots of crab, but was served as a cup, but priced as much as a bowl at other restaurants. The crab cakes had lump meat in them, but only 4 ounces and with a small dollop of mash potatoes and fried green tomatoes. Overall a good place, but go for lunch/brunch or eat at the bar where the prices are more in line with the portions.

I am a fairly hard person to please and I don't think I have ever given anything 5 stars but I have to this time. I planned a surprise 50th birthday party for my wife and it couldn't have turned out any better. The hors d'oeuvres (4 types) were excellent and there was more than enough to go around, the salad and entrees (3 types) were excellent as well. They made my wife a surf and turf for her dinner and guess what, excellent. They made the cake on the premises and it was delicious and could have served twice as many people as were in our party. The staff was very accommodating, allowing us to come in early and decorate the room and bring in a flat screen to show a dvd of my wife's life. The wait staff was, I know you think this is getting old, excellent and were constantly attending to our needs. I did not hear one complaint from any of the guests about anything and most said it was one of the best parties they had attended. Finally, the price was very, very reasonable considering the quality of the food and service and they didn't even charge us for the room. Compared to some of the other restaurants I had contacted the price was in some cases half what I would have paid in other establishments. My wife said she thought that there was not one thing she could have complained about and I polled all the guests as they were leaving and they all agreed. My wife said it was her best birthday since she was 9 and had her first sleep over party. Well done!

I went to Baldwin's for the Ghost Walk Murder Mystery show on Feb. 10. It was awesome! The food was great and the service was so accommodating. For only $50 we got dinner and a hilarious show. Okay, okay, I was IN the Ghost Walk show....but it's still a charming place so full of character (including me!) come on out and see the show! I play Cynthia Cartier, heiress and reality show wannabe. There are shows in March and April!

We like the food but the prices are a little high. The high prices are due to the location and the high end atmosphere . If you are looking for a restaurant for a special event this is the place. The sea bass is excellent and ask for a side of asparagus which was A+

Went for brunch during Carroll Co Restaurant week. For about 15 bucks, you get a 3 course brunch (10 bucks if you get two courses). I started with the smoked salmon flatbread, my wife had the crab soup. Both were outstanding. For my entree, I had the flat iron and gruyere sandwich. My wife had the chicken salad wrap. Both delicious. Added bonus, the house-made chips served with both sandwiches are amazing. For dessert, my wife had the whoopie pie. Incidentally, it is a brownie, not a whoopie but it's good just the same. I had the peanut butter cheesecake. It was awesome. Nice atmosphere. Service was a tad slow at first but it quickly picked up and was quite enjoyable. I would love to go back sometime. I believe it is reasonably priced but if you order drinks, it can get a little steep.

A very pleasant 40-minute drive from Lutherville, MD with bucolic scenery and decor reminiscent of small town Mayberry. It did pour for a while, but we stayed perfectly dry, even though we were seated right by the outside railing. The food was "moderately good". The service was also friendly. The wine was very good, although they "ran out" of the brand we liked and substituted one that wasn't as good. But they didn't charge us for it. There was piped in music from the 40's but it wasn't too loud at the outside seating. Again, the appetizers were tasty as were the crab cake and rockfish entrees. Definitely worth visiting--especially if you have the restauarant.com coupon.,

Seeing a review of this restaurant in Maryland Life magazine, my wife thought this would be a fun Saturday road trip, especially since the review (about a historic railroad station) did not bother to include a picture of the building. Sykesville on the Saturday after Christmas is pretty much void of any activity whatsoever. Located 4.5 miles north of Interstate 70, it was great that we had 'Charlotte' (pet name for our navigation system) on board, as the highway (MD 32) flies right past Sykesville with only a small sign directing you to the village in the valley just left of the main road. Our lunchtime visit was a little on the early side for a Saturday, so although there were very few patrons in the large 'Freight Room' portion of the restaurant, it was odd that we were seated in what was probably the worst seat in the place, in the corner behind the entrance to the kitchen. We didn't complain, but if your like most, you'll want to be able to see the trains as the rumble by, a mere 50 feet or so away. Without trying to compete with Brendan's review of mistakes, mistake number two happened pretty quickly, as we discovered that we were given two completely different lunch menus. The confusion was quickly remedied by the waitress, however, an item that had caught my eye was unfortunately on the menu that was taken away. I was suffering from a cold, so I didn't really want anything too exotic to eat. Usually, I enjoy seeing a new restaurant's interpretation of the classic Club sandwich, but I figured it would be too much to eat, so I settled for a burger. As usual, the burger options presented were not of my liking, being a little too complex and 'frilly', so I asked for some substitutions. Their basic cheeseburger, without the cheese, and add some bacon, to create the 'not on the menu', basic 'bacon burger'. No problem. When asked, I ordered the burger 'medium', but it came out more like 'medium rare' to 'rare', a little gooshy in the middle. I rarely complain about meat orders, generally preferring medium rare, but accepting of just about anything other then 'well did', so no complaints from me. However, I suspect some might be concerned about undercooked ground meet. The add-on fries, substituting for the chips (not sure if it was $1 or $2 extra as each menu stated it differently) were VERY good, just how I like them. Too bad there were only a half a dozen on the plate. The 'Freight Room' is a pleasant, if not plain, room. In one corner, there is a small, slightly elevated floor, which doubles as a stage. The 'Freight Room' becomes a 'Concert Hall' for a series of ticketed performances. Not sure if there is ever any free 'live entertainment'. On the other end of the building is the 'Waiting Room', which is a little more intimate, except for the single person bathroom that opens directly into the dining room. Doesn't seem too appetizing. That bathroom was one of two single person rooms (the other in the bar) which seemed to be perpetually busy despite only a dozen or so guests. I can't imagine what it would be like on a busy night. All in all, it was a fun trip. A couple of trains rumbled by, the food was decent, and the prices were OK. If I was hungry, and in the area, I might stop again, but a few miles further north, at the intersection of Route 26, there is a plethora of 'fern bar' chain restaurants and fast-food establishments.

(2.5 stars) Located in the heart of Sykesville, a historic MD town, Baldwin station is aesthetically pleasing as it was once a train station- hence the name. Historical tidbits like this are interesting to me, as were many of the old-time photos of the place. Sadly these were some of the high points of my visit. I went about a month ago for a business dinner, our party included myself, my girlfriend, as well as 5 other couples. We were appropriately seated in a backroom, and the noise levels from other diners were reasonable. Here is where things got somewhat dicey though. As I had a decent salad (arugula, cranberries, pine nuts, and a light dressing), others sampled more inventive appetizers. The seafood was poorly prepared (scallops if I recall correctly?) they were sent back and with good reason. Entree wise two in our party had lamb- which was also sent back. The wait staff did try to make amends asking if they could bring something in its place. One diner who returned the lamb asked for a petite fillet in its place. Instead he was brought a giant ,cauldron-like beef stew. (???) . At one point I ordered a Sam Adams White Ale, and was greeted with a glass of Merlot. Not sure about the disconnect here. I was on a pre-Vegas diet and had a nicely cooked piece of fresh tuna. My gf enjoyed her fillet, and finished it which is a rarity for her. Sadly others in our party did not enjoy theirs as much. I am willing to say Baldwin Station is a decent place that had an off night- both with their service and food prep. I'd give them another chance if I was ever out that way again. I think part of the problem is Baldwin Station is only "nice" place in the area. It has little competition in Sykesville so it does not have the raise the bar. Challenge yourself Baldwin Station- you never know when I'll be back!

The building is quaint. It makes for a good start to a morning of milling through the antique shops on Main St. My wife and I have visited for lunch/brunch a few times. When we chose breakfast items everything was fine but I recall the lunch menu being quite short - my wife and I don't like to order the same thing but we were forced to here as there was only one acceptable choice.

Great food and service and they did well with our large group. Only reason I didn't go to five stars is they were reluctant to accommodate Celiac disease due to a small kitchen. I do have to respect them for being upfront about their concerns about accommodating our food allergies.

Wonderful setting with gourmet style entrees. Have eaten there many times with my wife (we're locals) and meals range from good to fantastic. We'll definitely be back, especially on their "tasting" evenings with our friends. We've always been pleased with the service.

Pretty disappointing Mother's Day dinner here. When I made the reservation the person on the phone did not tell me it was an all-day brunch buffet. No what we had in mind. They then tried to seat us outside -- I did not ask for that nor was I asked if it was ok. We had to ask to move after we were seated. The buffet food wasn't bad but they were serving shrimp inside the shells without the proper knives. And my "blackberry champagne cocktail" tasted like Andre and Burnett's. I get the impression this place would be pretty good normally, but I definitely would not recommend it for a high-volume day like Mother's Day.

Food was good but not worth the price, and they would not honor their groupon fine print. Firstly, honoring your fine print is key. When I purchase a groupon I make sure I read the restrictions very carefully. Baldwin Station's is this: "Not valid for small plate menu. Not valid for happy hour specials. Not valid toward prix fixe menus or specials. Not valid on holidays. Not valid for special events. Must purchase a food item. Valid only for dinner." Fine. Technically, that means I can order off the dinner menu except small plates. However, once we were seated, we were told we could only use the groupon if we ordered two dinner ENTREES. I pointed out that their printed restrictions do not say it has to be an entree, just that it had to be off the dinner menu. The server said, "Yeah, there are a lot of restrictions. You have to order an entree." So, my plan to order an appetizer and salad as my meal, even though it would have been around the same price as an entree, was not allowed. How nit-picky, and counter to their own fine print. The dinner rolls were hard and overly chewy, and the entrees themselves were very good, but not excellent enough to warrant a $35 price tag, plus it was just enough food for dinner. The portions were not large enough to take home leftovers. For $35 I expect either excellent quality, or excellent portions. At other restaurants in the area you can get both. SEATING: Whatever seating method they've got going is not working. We came early and there were only 2 other parties dining. The dining room is cramped, with tables way too close to each other. Since it was slow, one would think they would space us out a little. Wrong. a dozen open tables and we were seated right up next to another couple, plus our table was smack dab in the middle of traffic, so waters kept brushing past us. There were tons of tables off to the sides, but NO, they seated us at the least logical table in the whole dining room. ????? This is the second time we've tried Baldwin's. Went there years ago and were not at all impressed. Thought we'd give it one more shot. The food is good, but not great, and add in the high price and how they cram you in like sardines, it's not worth it. Plus, any company that is shady and doesn't honor their fine print is just plain wrong.

The food here is expertly prepared. My husband and I each chose the short ribs that were served with aged cheddar grits and broccollini. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, seasoned well, and presented nicely. The gits were so creamy and decadent. The Broccollini were a perfect al dente and gorgeous. The service was attentive however, I feel that the wait staff should be more familiar with how the dishes are prepared and what they actually taste like. When we asked questions the wait staff did answer appropriately from a customer service stand point..."I am not sure but, I can check for you." A restaurant of this caliber will benefit from educating the wait staff in all aspects of the food offered and also be able to pair wine, etc with the dishes.

Charming place, far better than expected food given somw reviews. We found pleasant and competent waitstaff tonight. They even made my fussy husband's odd cocktail combo to order without raising an eyebrow and were really hospitable about that - isn't that a plus? We loved the braised short rib w cheesy grits (I hate grits but these made me a believer). Also duck confit wontons worth a try - some subtle mystery spice - cardamon? Not cheap but a fair value given the quality of all the elements of a good dining experience. We'll be back.

I love that they have outdorr seating and the view from outside is absolutely gorgeous. The best theing they have is their salmon flatbread appetizer. They'll make it for you even if it's not on their current menu. They also will make special orders. For example, if you're a vegetarian, the chef will make a dish especially for you. The chef comes out to your table if they're not too busy and is honestly interested in your feedback. We had creme brulee for dessert that was a little lumpy and, even though it tasted delicious and we ate every bite, the chef had it taken off our bill since it was perfect. Brunch is also fantastic. It's a little pricey to eat there all the time but it is definitely worth an occasional brunch and date night.

This was my favorite place to eat in the Sykesville/Eldersburg area. I really enjoyed and now miss the salmon flat bread. The chef is amazing! He will will visit your table to find out how you liked the meal and even removes items from the bill if they were not up to standard. Prices are on the high side, but are worth it for the quality of the dishes and the level of service offered by the staff. It can get loud outside because of the passing freight trains, but this also adds to the experience here. I enjoyed all of their menu items and drinks. The service was never bad, and the opportunity to eat here should not be missed. Brunch is an awesome experience with delicious mimosas and exquisitely prepared dishes...I just can't write enough positive things about Baldwin Station!

This is a very cool place that is an easy drive from either Washington or Baltimore. It is "worth the trip," as the Washington Post said. We went on a quiet Sunday night, where we found the service to be attentive without being intrusive. Indeed, they let us take our time and enjoy the food and the ambiance, but we were never lacking for refilled water (a great thing, as it was hot out on the patio) or for someone to notice when our wine glasses had gone down to come and offer us some more. Sitting on the patio is a trip - you'll probably see a freight train go by. As in, about six feet from your table. A word of warning, though: they are LOUD. That's all part of the fun, though. We got to wondering if one would come by, and then joked that if one didn't, we should get our meal free. Food was delicious. My friend reports that the mushroom bisque was "spicy" (in a good way), and that the scallops were outstanding. I had one of the specials, which was breaded rainbow trout on a bed of pineapple risotto. Don't let the pineapple part throw you off -- I was wary, but it was so subtly flavoured that it didn't overpower anything else and added to the dish. The wine-by-the-glass list is a bit lacking. And it isn't included in the wine list they bring you if you ask for one -- I had to get the waiter to recite them. However, he was well-versed in his stuff. The bottles are a good range, heavy on the California, one or two Australians and one or two Chileans. Maybe a French white. Inside looks pretty cool, and if it hadn't been a Sunday night (or we didn't have to drive back to Washington) we would have been tempted to close down the bar -- it looks that cool. Their scotch selection looks ridiculous.

The ambiance and setting is great and the food was good! It's a shame that the service kind of ruined this place for me. Downtown Sykesville is really cute and this building is neat---it's an old train station. We sat on their deck just a few feet away from the tracks. Service rubbed me the wrong way from the start. Even though I figured they wouldn't be too busy on a Saturday for lunch I made a reservation anyway since we had a busy day planned. The person on the phone was not friendly at all. The night before our scheduled reservation I received a call from a different employee to confirm the reservation and she was very short with me on the phone. She basically just hung up once I confirmed. No "See you tomorrow" or anything like that. It was Friday night and they were probably busy, but I guess I expected more. On Saturday our waitress was not much better. She was awkward---sort of just interrupted us and started reading the specials. She also dropped off our food and ran. That is a big pet peeve of mine. We needed ice and refills and it took us a long time to track her down again. It only takes 30 seconds to ask, "Is there anything else I can get for you right now?" when dropping off a meal. She was not friendly at all and I never saw her smile. Luckily our food was good! It took a pretty long time to arrive considering there were only a handful of tables seated. But, I had the chicken caesar salad in a garlic wrap with their hand cut french fries (yum) and my two dining companions had shrimp salad sandwiches and loved them! After walking around Main Street Sykesville for an hour or two, we started to walk back to our cars at Baldwin's and decided to go in and grab a soda at the bar to relax for a few minutes. We grabbed two seats at the bar and were ignored by our earlier waitress who was cleaning. We were then ignored by at least 3 or 4 employees who walked by us. We would try to get their attention, but never could. Finally after 10 minutes, someone asked us if we needed anything and we got our two sodas. It's a shame because this place has so much potential! I thought maybe it was just a fluke, but after reading a few other reviews it seems as if they do have some service problems. I generally don't mind if service is a little slow or a server makes mistakes as long as they are friendly about it. Here they were not friendly and we spent so much time trying to flag people down that it was very frustrating.

Baldwin's is a great place. It has a very good food, family ambiance, friendly servers. I had the Organic Mushroom Bisque and Linguine Seafood Pasta. High quality and good quantity. Thanks to Stewart Dearie, the owner the place is a very precise clock with every detail to make the experience worthy of the price you pay.

We came here in July for a birthday dinner. I thought the appetizers were bland tasting, though fancy looking . I ordered a steak that came with bread pudding. I ordered it medium well, but it came rare. Since I can't eat rare, they took it back and brought it back a bit charred and swimming in sauce. It did not taste good, to say the least. To make matters worse, they replaced the perfectly cooked Brussel sprouts that came with the dish the first time with under cooked and inedible ones. Others in my party had better luck, but after tasting some of the other dishes, I thought the food here is mediocre at best, so don't be fooled by how seriously the waiters take it. Overall it was disappointing and I will never return. Head over to Beck's across the street for a cheaper and more satisfying dining experience, minus the stuffy atmosphere. If you want to spend money on expensive food, save it and head elsewhere.

Very cool place. I wish we came during daylight to see more of the outside. We were able to hear and see two trains come by during dinner. We sat in the heated patio area, which was not as nice as inside. They had some kind of mystery dinner theater going on inside, so seating that night was limited indoors. Our main complaint besides the sheer loudness of the train 10 feet away was the heater. It was a cool night, so it was kicking on a lot, and was loud. Food is amazing. My table had the mahi special on sweet corn, the ribeye, filet and scallops. The filet had good flavor and both steaks were at perfecture temperature. The scallops tasted bleachy for some reason. Salads that came with the meal were different, but good. Mushroom bisque was really good. The service is great. Really formal and timely. Management and/or ownership was present and made sure we enjoyed everything. Overall a neat experience, an old train depot turned eatery.

Baldwin Station is now rising as one of my favorite places and I've only ever eaten their once. Tucked away in quiet historic Sykesville, this place is rather unassuming at first. Parking is limited but there is a public parking lot about a block away. The building is old and adjacent to active train tracks, several old buildings, and an industrial lot with trailers. Once inside you can feel the age of the place, from the worn stone steps to the worn and warped wood. Despite this, there is a cozy air to the building that pleasantly reminds you of a classier, simpler time. We attended solely for the Mother's Day Brunch and had an excellent experience. The place was crowded but we had a nice table seating seven of us. The buffet was in the outside seating area, which I only recommend if you don't mind the noise and smell of trains barreling by. The food was hot, constantly replenished, and some of the tastiest buffet food I'd ever had. You had the brunch staples, like pancakes, french toast, eggs, sausage, etc., all of which was fresh cooked and excellent. There were omelets with your choice of mixing cooked in front of you. Among the more interesting choices were boiled, spiced shrimp, green beans in a tasty white sauce, penne pasta with your choice of marinara or alfredo, and a fine type of beef sliced to order with an amazing horseradish cream sauce. You could finish up with your choice of breads, muffins, and small dessert cups such as the extremely tasty almond cheesecake. Not a single one of us went home unsatisfied from that meal. We have yet to eat there during regular times but we definitely plan on going back soon. There is a full bar with an excellent liquor selection and live music on certain nights. Once I have tried their regular menu and visited them again I will update my review. Still, just based on a single visit I ~highly~ recommend heading up here and trying them out!

Baldwin Station is fantastic! I recently visited when my best friend had her rehearsal dinner and wedding reception there. Chris, the general manager, as well as his attentive-yet-invisible staff, bent over backwards to make both events huge successes. When the bride's dress ripped, one of the servers whipped out 3 large safety pins from her purse. The staff made sure the bride and groom had two plates of food ready for them at the table. A truly accommodating and professional restaurant. I wish I lived closer because I would be a regular customer! Thank you for making those nights so special for us all!
