Had the family meal! Must have the fried fish!! Perfectly seasoned! This pescatarian approved! Also tried the blackened fish but I have to admit, I enjoyed the fried more. -Mac n cheese -greens - this was delicious -broccoli w red onions was great also! There's a possibility I might have to make one more visit here before I leave!

I had ended my log day into Suitland metro to pick up my car and drive home. I needed dinner because I was exhausted and didn't feel like cooking. I found this establishment on Yelp and fortunately, it was right around the corner from the metro. Parking was easy. It was fairly busy but plenty of parking in the lot. I walked in to a warm and welcoming greeting. I was indecisive and looked over the menu for quite some time. The employees were super patient with me. I ended up going with a platter that was for one person, but ended up being large enough for two. It came with fried whiting, 3 sides (I got mac & cheese and greens), bread and dessert. I got the carrot cake and added an order of carrot fries. This was more than enough for my fiance and I, in fact we had leftovers for the next day. The mac and cheese was delicious! Super creamy and heavy. The fish was on point. Carrot fries were amazing. The platter was $19 and also came with an extra large drink, I picked the herbal iced tea which is made in house and man was it good! I'm excited to come back and try everything else on their menu. Everything looks good and I love that it is pescetarian friendly. It seems like they recently added chicken to their menu but you can tell that they specialize in fish. Sooooo good and worth the $!

I've passed this place for a while and just never thought to try..that is until I looked it up on yelp and saw such great reviews. Came in today on my way home. I'm not doing anything fried and there were still plenty of items to choose from. Can't find that at too many fast food joints. There's a big fish presence on the menu. Not the biggest fish person but I do love some Salmon and there are a couple dishes that fit what I was looking for. The staff was pleasant. No extra conversation but taking an order with a genuine smile went a long way. In days where you barely get eye contact, I appreciated that. I ordered the Omega wrap. It was ready in about 10 minutes. Don't mind the wait..food is made to order and man..it's worth every penny and minute. Tastiest sandwich I have had in forever. I will definitely be back. My sandwich tasted fresh and was light and filling at the same time. Definitely worth my drive from DC.

Fried tilapia dinner. Mac & Cheese String Beans $13.12 I loved it. My fish was seasoned to perfection and huge (2 pcs). The macaroni was AWESOME, and the string beans were blanched and tasty. I waited about 10 mins for my food, but it was well worth it. The young lady behind the counter was nice. No complaints. This is a grab your food and go type of place. Not in a 5 star neighborhood, but you don't need a bullet proof vest and your car will still be there after 15 mins so I think thats a plus. THey also have a variety of sauces and my favorite is the sun sauce which is like a spicy honey mustard-ish sauce. (Yes, that just happened) Go and try it out!

I had the fried whiting wrap with fries. One of the best fish "sandwiches" I've had in a long time. Not sure what the sauce was but it had just the right amount of tang and heat. The fries were also very good. I will definitely come back to try other menu items. If you don't call ahead expect a 10-15 minute wait.

The food is okay if they have what you want and customer service needs improvement. There truly over priced

I had the East of Mississippi sandwich. OMG soooooo good!!! Portion size of the fish, and the seasoning was on point. Will be going back.

I always liked the thought that there could be some homey "fast food" place worth going that makes food just as clean, healthy, and hearty as if I'd cooked it myself--only I never had to lift a finger. Maybe I'm looking for the unicorn of restaurants. Or maybe--just maybe--Food for Life is that restaurant reality. There's nothing that might tempt you from the outside. Calling the surrounding neighborhood and shopping center drab and grey would be a compliment. However, Food for Life is quite literally a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. The walls and counters are painted bright, vibrant oranges and yellows--an instant pick-me-up from what would otherwise be a flat atmosphere. And they apply those same bright, vibrant principles to their menu. Mostly pescatarian, FFL dazzles any tastebuds gone drab and grey from eating the same boring fast food over and over again. This isn't another dull fried chicken place. Or an overdone damn-I-coulda-made-this-at-home soulfood carryout. FFL lives in a world all its own. Salmon wraps, salmon burgers, fish nuggets (whiting), and broiled tilapia are just a few of their staples. Needless to say, I don't feel bad skipping a night of cooking to come here--and for more than one reason. (1) I love fish and my diet consists mostly of fish and seafood. So it's almost like their menu was made for me :) And (2) It's probably about as healthy as fast food can get. The owner is there quite frequently and doesn't hesitate to tell you what they use and how dishes are made. Looking for catfish? You won't find it because they don't believe in catfish. In their natural habitats, catfish are bottom feeders and arouse cleanliness doubts for some eaters. I personally enjoy catfish but I understand people who don't. No high fructose corn syrup or loads of artificial flavors in their sauces because their all homemade original recipes--cajun, honey bbq, and dill (just to name a few). The dill sauce is their version of tartar sauce and is the best complement for fish nuggets. FFL is a laid-back delicacy. The prices are very fair--considering it's all fish. And it's fast and convenient service. The owner and regular woman at the register are also very friendly people and fun to chat with. I look forward to seeing them when I go in there almost as much as I like ordering the cajun spicy fish nuggets. This is good food quick and a coke and smile while you're waiting!

(1/15/14) First, let me begin with the fact that I am from the Washington DC area and I do NOT eat at "curry outs". No Dannys, Eddie Leonards, or Yum's for me. It's a silly stereotype that really gets on my nerve. This fact alone delayed my visit to Food for Life but I kept hearing a little buzz about the "hole in the wall" with good food. I was in the mood for something good for lunch and decided to break my self-imposed restriction. There were so many delicious options to choose from. The staff was incredibly kind, answered all of my questions with a smile, and offered samples of stuff. A patron heard me mention the fish nuggets. When his order was ready, he offered me some of his nuggets to help my decision. Sweet! I settled on some good ole soul food (whiting fish nuggets, mustard greens, and mac-n-cheese). They also had cool named sauces available like sun, moon, and comeback. I selected sun and the fresh dill which is their version of tartar sauce. The food was piping hot! I couldn't wait to get home, transfer my food to a nice plate, and indulge. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I live as a pescatarian about 75% of the time and boy have I missed out on this convenience. +Random Observation: Lots of good looking men frequent this spot. During my wait, there were about 15 men to 1 woman.

Where o where am I going to get my Good Friday dinner? FFL Of Course!! The food was so delicious, and fresh flavors every where. I'm not Fan of whiting but, this was so Good. I reminded me of Yasins in Atlanta GA. It was the family meal 7 pieces Mustard greens: smoky and sweet (Meh!) Mac n cheese: cheesey And Green beans: fresh and crisp If you want to sit and enjoy your meal, forget it. Carry out only The front counter help was more than gracious and one of then gave me extra COMEBACK SAUCE for my fish. Awesome PS I also got pineapple cake YUMMY!!!!

  • Kashmia L.

Absolutely loved it. I had the Omega Wrap, an order of HBBQ Wings, side of Mac, and a side of Broccoli. Everything was fresh. Friendly staff. And they have a lot of options to choose from on their fairly priced menu.

I've written a great review for this place before because when I first started they were good. Then, they began serving the ends of the fish nuggets although I'd say no tips or ends please. So I stopped going. Today I went and the fish was fried very dark and 3 bowls of ends and tips. Just sad. Won't complain to them don't want a redo. Don't want to chance an addition to the cooking. I'm sad. I won't be going back.

First time visit and I enjoyed the wrap with whiting. On that day I ordered 3 pieces of whiting 2 fried and 1 grilled not a platter. Also ordered a slice of rum bun cake, 6 bbq chicken wings, and a hibiscus tea. The total came up to be around 30 bucks. Wasn't expecting that price but the food was tasty overall. I would probably go back again for the wrap.

My few visits were a success. I called in to order carrot fries and bbq fish nuggets. When I arrived the service was efficient. The gentleman let me know that the food would be out soon, and offered sauce for the fish. Because it was my first visit they gave me a sample of all the sauce. The fish nuggets are whiting, and the fish is fried crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. The carrot fries are breaded and salted and a bit greasy. I've tried the veggie karate and it was strangely salty. The sauce, cheese, and sautee oil may be the cause of the vegetable saltiness. Taste the veggie sandwiches at your own risk. I'll stick with the meat and fried foods here. I rated three stars because this restaurant is advertised as vegetarian but the veggie dishes aren't perfected.

Great food they need to work on their customer service and and their over all attention to detail. I eaten there twice and food was very good.

Good service and the food was excellent! Based on previous reviews I decided to check this place out since I was craving fish badly. So glad I decided to check it out too because the BBQ Fish Nuggets were worth the tep and the cost. The prices to me were reasonable for food that is made to order vs. fast food. You get what you pay for in most instances. Great tasting, well sized portions, reasonable prices, and no long waiting. I will definitely return.

The short: variety of seasoned fried fish and sauces. Call ahead to avoid long wait. Hole in the wall. Gave two stars for mediocre service and yucky floors. I've been here a few times. My first visit, I walked in, three people were working behind the counter. We stood there for a while and was never greeted?! We walked out. After being coxed by a friend to give them another try, I had the Mississippi fish sandwich. It was good. My son loved the fish BBQ nuggets. On subsequent visits the fish was sometimes over seasoned/sauced giving a salty taste. The Hero sandwich is my least favorite. It's minced chargrilled fish covered with BBQ sauce. It doesn't look appetizing and the taste is so so. As mentioned before the place isn't easy on the eyes and there is a thick layer of gunk on the floors...you feel the stickiness under your feet.

I have gone to Food For Life for lunch on many occasions. The food has always been extremely good. The only reason I give it a three star rating is because of the nasty attitude that the young lady who takes the orders and payment has. Everyone else seems to be extremely pleasant. I'm not sure what her name is but i can describe her as the young lady with the piercings in her face. She never smiles. She speaks so low you can barely hear her and when you say huh, or excuse me she does not speak any louder and seems to get upset that YOU can't hear her. Overall, she acts as if she does not want to be there and customers get on her nerves. She needs an attitude adjustment so that people can want to come in and continue ordering their good food. Her management needs to know how she treats people. Customer service is an important factor on continued patronage. If I go in there one more time and she has a nasty attitude no matter how good the food is, I would not patronize them again and they lose a customer who orders AT LEAST $40 worth of food every time. Again, everyone else seems to be very pleasant.

Hunty, I was crravving for some good ole fish, mac & cheese, & greens. My friend suggested F.F.L and so I went based upon her story telling of how good the food is. Let me say that I wasnt disappointed. The cashier was so pleasent and nice, the food was DIVINE and the sauces were the BOMB!!! OMG!! Yes, I think this might be my friday/cheat day regular thang!!

Heard about this place and finally decided to check it out. It is a seafood carryout restaurant that caters to vegetarians and pescaterians. Not in the greatest area and the exterior is not particularly eye catching. The interior is clean and the staff is friendly and personable. Straight to the point: the food is good. The honey bbq fish nuggets can be an acquired taste for some but I have to say that the sauce had a nice combo of tang and kick. The true hero sub (grilled jerk tilapia) was surprisingly good and filling. It made you forget you were eating seafood. The mac and cheese was delicious and offered a balance in terms of the flavor profile, texture and consistency. The negatives are the dessert and the price. Dessert: they look great and I'm sure if I had other types, they may have been good. That being said, I had the carrot cake, which was dry and the flavor was bland. Price: Subjective but I thought it was a little high. Makes sense in terms of the higher cost of preparing a more health conscious meal using seafood but uncle sam doesn't care about that!

Can you say "Hole in the Wall"? My gosh...as one reviewer said earlier, run in and run out! But definitely run in because the food is great! And the customer service is superb ("mommy, what's customer service?"...kinda like "what's an atari?"). As I drove over, I wondered if my GPS was leading me astray: the food coming from my colleague's office the day prior just looked and smelled SO good - did he give me a fake address just to laugh at me the next day? No - correct address. Be prepared to wait a long time for your food. I guess it's a reflection that everything is essentially made to order, and that's always a good thing, right? Right. I've learned my lesson and now call ahead. Good stuff. My favorite is the fish nuggets. So simple but so good. Enough to feed two. I'm mad at my husband when he doesn't want to share with me cuz that means I subconsciously eat the whole thing...and then I feel gross. Shame on me, not Food For Life's fault. I keep forgetting about this place because it's not like I ever drive by it, but when I have a random craving for fish nuggets, this is definitely the place to go.

I love this spot. This is how I like my fish, moist and flavorful. The bean soup always cranks and their homemade teas are always refreshing. Try the hibiscus tea! Business is always flowing in here. Takes a few minutes because food is cooked to order, as it should be.

FYI: it's a run-in-and-run-out-place. not a sit down restaurant.... as of several people raved about the fish from this place. At first....in my southern mind food is not southern without the fat yet they have please the southern side of me. The fish (baked) has a rack of garlic and raw unions. FYI don't even plan on kissing yourself. At least I got a full stomach with an excellent meal in it. The sides: A) greens (they still have stems on them) taste good B) mac & cheese it was good Suggestion: Please help a sister out add a biscuit or cornbread to the menu..not even a dinner roll... or a quesant (moving right along) Yesterday I went back to Food for Life. The Choice: Fish nuggets (catfish) they give a lot enough for 2 people to each. I also tried the fishcake (salmon) Fried.... ya heard. I voiced my opinion about that garlic &spice (for my order that is). I was pleased the nuggets hit a home (see the pictures) run

My boyfriend likes eating here, I don't. I'm not a fan of fish so my view is probably biased but it is too pricey and the food takes entirely too long to make, so it's best to order ahead if you know what you want. I got the salmon burger last time, I didn't like it.

  • Ros M.

This is a carry out location. The food was much better than it appeared outside. I think that their fish was pretty decent. However, the greens were way too salty for me. The cost of the food was pretty steep too for fish and 2 sides. The best thing is the fish sauces. I enjoyed the different fish sauces. The people waiting on the customers are friendly and professional. I will most assuredly return just for the fish. I'm pretty tough on seafood and pretty picky about food in general.

Had this place been here when I lived in Suitland, I would've eaten here almost daily. The CARROT FRIES are a good, sneaky way to get kids to eat their vegetables. (Worked for me.) The appetizer portions are huge and more than enough to share. All entrées are served with two sides and a Supreme dinner roll. The portions are ample. The SALMON CROQUETTE reminds me of what grandma used to make. I didn't eat them much when I was a kid, but that's about to change. The CROAKER (bone-in) is good and seasoned to no end. Sun and Moon sauce are available, but not really needed. The DELUXE FISH (whiting, boneless) is good, too -- although not as seasoned as teh croaker. Sun and Moon sauce aren't necessarily needed for this dish, either -- but wouldn't be overkill if you used it. The HONEY BBQ FISH NUGGETS are out of this world. I normally don't use much sauce on my fish, but this dish totally changed my mind. Side dishes: The mustard greens, macaroni & cheese, green beans and fried rice are good. I'm not big on cabbage, but the cabbage stir-fry is really good. I'm not what you'd call a "healthy eater", but this place is a vegetarian's dream and a meatlover's deep thought! You have the option of having your fish prepared fried, baked or grilled, so there's no getting bored easily here.

Very cool place. Don't judge a book by it's cover here. From the outside, you might expect to find a dingy greasy take out joint in a strip mall. On the inside it's a very clean, well decorated takeout counter serving all sorts of fish. I'm not a very big fish person, so the fact that I'm giving this 4 stars should speak volumes. I do love a good fried fish sandwich, and those are delicious here. Especially the Supreme Comeback sub. The only problem with it is they put too much fish on it! I'd advise taking a piece off and eating it separately otherwise the structural integrity of the sandwich suffers. Be warned, some of the food here will confuse your taste buds. Like the Karate sub. You'll think you're eating a BBQ pork sandwich until you get that taste of fish that will shock your taste buds, even though it tastes good. Same with the honey BBQ fish nuggets. You smell it and see it and your brain registers chicken. When you taste it, even though you know it's fish, it still surprises your mouth. Also, very friendly and courteous staff working here.

One star taken away for its location because before you can enjoy the food, you have to get over the neighborhood this is located in. Scary. Once you're over that, it's all good. The menu has mostly fish dishes, my husband had the BBQ fish sandwich and his only complaint was the bread got super soggy in the Styrofoam container. I got the vegetable plate with green beans (quite salty), mac and cheese (NOMZ!), and carrot fries (NOMZ again!). The carrot fries and mac and cheese were really good! It came with a homemade whole wheat roll, which was a nice touch. My meal was vegetarian, but definitely not healthy :-) If we are in the neighborhood, we will go back, but I don't think we'll venture into this neighborhood often.

I always order the house special (grilled) with veggie sides. Sometimes the green beans are too salty but overall it is a healthy alternative to other carry-outs. The herbal ice tea is a must have!

I've driven past "Food for Life Supreme" dozens of times and never thought about stopping in. What inspired to me check them out was the positive reviews posted here on YELP. And I must say the reviews were on point. Results: Had the "Supreme Comback Sub" and Oh My Goodness... it was some kind'a good! Also tried the carrot cake and was equally pleased. The serving size was also good. My meal was enough for two although someone with a big appetite may want the entire thing to themselves. Service: The service was good and the folks running the place were very courteous. I called my order in before hand (approx. 15mins before I left my office) and my food was ready when I got there. Will defiantly go there again... probably next week.

This is a reasonably priced Muslim carry-out. Their customer service is 100% excellent. There's nothing I haven't tried that I didn't enjoy or recommend yet. They also deliver which is very convenient. I hate hush puppies but I only eat them from here. They also have piña colada cookies.. Yumm

My mom lives down Suitland Road in Forestville..I've been coming here for years and it's always been on point. The neighborhood is not nearly as bad as others claim but it's not some fu-fu gentrified police satrurated area in DC. Everything is fresh, clean and good. The employees are always professional and everything I've ever purchased came out perfectly. I believe it's run by the Nation of Islam, but who cares, the food is good. They had a full restaurant in Newark, NJ, not sure if it's still in business. Don't be scared, hit them up and enjoy the good eats.

Yesterday my dude tells me he wants to go out to this seafood restaurant . Well he had been there the day before and was itching to go back. How could I not want to go. He was very excited. This owners of the place are from the UNOi. Anyone who has ever had a fish sandwich from a muslim restaurant knows they do fish right. The restaurant is located in a strip mall not too far from the Suitland Metro. They are carry out only but they have a very inviting decor of yellow and reds. The staff seemed young but I wondered if was because of their scholarship program. They have focus on giving youth useable skils. Now the food took quite a while to be prepared. However the cashier inquired a few times about our order and let them know that the customer had been waiting longer than usual. Another guy who was trying to eat before he went to work ended up leaving to get dressed since he had already been waiting 10 minutes and they said it would take another 15. The day before the dude had the citrus fish and it was so good he wanted to come back. Today he had the Cuban Burger which is a salmon burger with all the fixings of a cuban sandwich. I had a bite and it was quite tasty. He devoured the carrot fries before I could even get one. Now my food on the other hand was terrible. The catfish strips left a burned after taste. My greens tasted of liquid smoke and were chopped too fine so they did not have any texture. They don't use pork but they went overboard with the liquid smoke. The macaroni and cheese had a weird taste. I also thought the bread pudding was too sweet. These weren't just my observations he tasted my food and was disappointed in my food as well. So I'm giving 3 stars because my companions food was good. So maybe they aren't so good with fried food and soul food sides.

The food is really good! Their butter yum cake IS TO DIE FOR!! The fish is good and always taste fresh! Portion sizes are pretty big as well! They employees are always kind and respectful. HOWEVER, you might want to call your order in ahead of time because they make the food fresh and they take a while to get your order together. Also it's pretty expensive for carry out so be prepared!

This place is very clean, the counter service was very nice and courteous, and the food so far has been very good. I had the Portabella Burger. They made it crispy and it was delicious. My friend had the Salmon burger and could not stop ranting about how good it was. Overall this place gave the impression that someone in the kitchen and also the owner actually care. I will be back again and again.

I love this place!! My sister and I went here after school a couple of years ago having been OVERLY tired of the chinese carryout next door. What an excellent decision. We got the cajun fish strips with a lrg mac n cheese. In my opinion, that's their best dish ( but i'm definitely biased). Since then, I hadnt been back until about a week or two ago. I got their stir fry ( needed salt) but still good, mac n cheese, and fish. The other day I got tilapia and a salad. The tilapia was grilled, looked fried, but awesome. It had this sauce on it that I couldnt make out, but it complimented the fish so well. Also!!! They have this dressing ( ask for oil and vinegar and they'll recommned this green dressing to u. ) I forgot the name of it but its SOOO GOOD!!! Just go lol Go GO GOOO!!! Their customer service is ON POINT! You're always greeted and they LEARN your name. They even hold conversations with you. It's clean and its decorative. OH also!! Their desserts are FRESH and tasty. I had their carrot cake and chocolate cake. It was so moist...and the portions of everything are huge lol Enough for left overs. The only thing I will say is that although this is kind of like a carryout, their prices are not like one. Expect to spend a little more.

I tried this place a few years ago and was not impressed at all, however I went about a month ago to give it another try and have been back six times since then. The food, decor and customer service has completely changed and improved for the better. I ordered the BBQ fish nuggets, and the salad with whiting fillets and have been thinking about it ever since. The BBQ fish was a wise and ingenious idea and the taste was one that I can not get out of my mind. And the price was only $5.95 ( I think - not over $6.00) and was enough for me and my ole' ladee to share. The salad was fresh and had all the toppings( onions, cucumber, green peppers, and carrots). The only thing that was missing was the cheese( only because I need cheese on almost everything that I eat! LOL) I actually went last night to be exact and once again I was highly impressed. The food is always hot and fresh! Just have a bed near by because you are not going to want to do anything but sleep once you have finished your meal

I came to Food For Life on 3/27/2015 after being skeptical about the reviews but too hungry to drive past. I had the salmon melt w/ a side of hush babies. The hush babies were DELICIOUS both fresh and reheated. I would've preferred for the outside to have a bit more crunch to it but the flavor was really good. The salmon melt was decent although it didn't taste much like the salmon I'm used to. The sandwich came with onions in the salmon mix which I was extremely excited about had they not been so raw and more on the caramelized side it would've been more enjoyable. The bread was also soggy but I could get over that. Will def be trying again in the near future.

First time at this spot and based on this trip, I'll be a repeat customer. Was in the area looking for lunch and figured I'd give them a shot. I ordered the Salmon croquette entree with macaroni & cheese and cabbage stir fry. I also picked up a large herbal iced tea and a piece of rum cake. Man, listen.... everything was good!!!! As I was driving, the smell almost made me pull over and eat on the side of the road. I'm dead serious, it smelled that good. Salmon cakes were seasoned perfectly and a very good size. I punished them. Macaroni & cheese was decent, not great but very good. The cabbage stir fry was on point. I love ginger and whatever they used in the stir fry had some ginger in it. Loved it. Now the rum cake... maaaaaaaan, the rum cake was de-li-cious!!! It was super moist and had the right balance of spices & hints of rum. The tea was also real good. Reminded me of a healthier herbal sweet tea. Best believe I'll be back to Food For Life. Update: I keep going back. This is one of my new favorite eat spots. The salmon cakes are still my 'go to' meal combo. But the whiting nuggets and the Omega wrap are both very good. I continue to be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food here. I've more than a handful of times and they get it done right every time.

Yoooo order before you get here. Just like any other carry out spot!! This is not fast food and it sure doesn't taste like it either. I come here so much it's a problem for my bank account. Everything I've had was good except one thing!!!!!! Just one thing and it was that fried rice! However, the grilled fish, honey BBQ nuggets, omega wrap( they should call that the O MY GAAAD wrap), chicken wings, fries, cabbage, broccoli(broc-HOLY.....grail) the moon sauce is where it's at!! Every time I get one I think "I GOT THE SAUUUUCE, I GOT THE SAUUUUCE!" -lil George I know the cakes are imported but they are deadly too! To the good people at F4L, Thank you for putting a healthy alternative in the community. Our people need it bad! They purposely keep healthy options out of our communities. Think about it.... Where's the closest gym? There's one on every block in the wealthier communities. We have McD's, liquor stores and check cashing spots on every corner. Wow, food so good it'll make you think! MESSSSSSAGGGGGEEEE! I'm out kids!

Good portion sizes. Plenty of choices on the menu, but not many things available the day I went. I went with the catfish nuggets since it seemed to be a yelp favorite, but they were very salty so I didn't enjoy them much. The place looks a bit run down, a few upgrades here n there would be helpful.

Food for Life, gave me LIFE! The place was hopping and it seemed like many people ordered ahead to ensure their food was ready when they walked in. My friend had the grilled tilapia and LOVED it. I had the honey bbq fish nuggets, mac n cheese and mustard greens. Everything was delicious and perfectly flavored. My portion was huge! I easily turned it into two meals.

Review for June 13, 2013 I usually shy away from carry outs because the only vegetarian dishes are fries, mozzarella sticks, fried rice, and maybe decent veggies. When I heard about a vegetarian/ pescatarian food joint, I wanted to try it out. I walked in and noticed that patrons aren't able to sit and enjoy the food. The menu was extensive, but as a vegetarian of over 25 years, I felt like the menu catered to pescatarian. I wanted to try the citrus fish because it can be made without meat. I asked what was the vegetarian substitution, the gentleman and young lady at the counter said "mushrooms". I hate mushrooms! At that moment, a gentleman with glasses (the cook) came out and told me how he can add a lot veggies and a bed of rice. As I waited, I conversed with the guy (he said that he was the manaager). We talked about vegetarianism until me food came out. The young lady at the counter show me my food, and it looked and smelled amazing. The veggies were cooked perfectly, and sauce was delicious! Although it was more than enough for two people, I ate it ALL! The following day, I HAD to get more! I'm in love!

Wonderful food. I was honestly blown away by the flavor and presentation of the food. If you can get past the appearance of the neighborhood that it is in it is worth your while. Will definitely return soon.

Ghetoo ghetto ghetto. I walked in and was not greeted. I heard that the food is good but the service is horrible. People in the back kitchen was all sweaty and weren't even wearing gloves or a hat to cover their hair/head. Loud customers having personal conversations with the cashier/server.

Love the wrap it up with the herbal tea. That's what keeps me coming back. Otherwise the place is a hole in the wall. Customer service is average

For whatever reason, this section of my beloved of Prince George's County is a virtual food desert. I usually have to venture to Montgomery County or across the water to Arlington to get some of my faves. But when I'm in this area, Food For Life is about the most clutch option available. First of all, the place specializes in fish, chicken, and other soul food staples. To be perfectly honest with you, I've been coming here for a good 6-7 years and I get the same two items alternately every time so my review might be a bit skewed. If you're a first timer, I suggest getting the plain fish nuggets meal. How it works is you literally get chopped writing pieces cut into nugget form akin to a chicken nugget. They have an array of dippinig sauces available: Sun, which is like their version of a hot honey mustard; Moon, which reminds one of remoulade; Comeback, I 'm not sure what to describe it as except that it's rather tasty; and Dill, which, like the Comeback, reminds me of tarter sauce but not really and also good. I usually get the mustard greens and macaroni and cheese with my meal and I can never finish the meal in one siting. Make sure to ask for an extra sauce, even though they'll charge for it. The only other meal I've had there was the BLT sandwich, which features something called "nautical bacon" and the moon sauce but it was banging. However, I stick to the nuggets most days. One day, I'll try their chicken wings or other side items but as the old saying goes, "If It Ain't Broke...." I'll admit the prices aren't cheap but the food is worth it, the kitchen is solid and the customer service top notch.
