Plaza Tapatia may have a very interesting name but the food is very, very generic and unhealthy. It has a fare actually quite similar in taste/texture to El Rio Grande in my local hometown, however, it is even unhealthier. I got a pretty typical Vegetarian Combo fare - Cheese Enchilada, Bean Burrito and Cheese Quesadilla. The Cheese Enchilada was simply a tortilla filled with cheese covered with sauce and more cheese - yea that's about what I expect. The Bean Burrito, however, was quite boring and was topped with Nacho Cheese nonetheless. Lastly, was a cheese quesadilla that was even more cheese. I mean, yeah sure, it's kind of my own fault and I'm quite curious to see how some other items are but for a vegetarian fare, it was just average. I tend to like my bean burritos done in a simply well-done balanced style such as Qdoba or La Bamba. Lastly, it is not a great place to bring kids if its after 9pm. I'm sure its fine before then but .. Yes, you probaby never feed your kids after this time but if you did, the bar is quite noisy and many of the drunks are quite vocal. Obscenities seem to be commonplace, which I am not affected but I certainly would not take children there. There is not much space between the drunkards and diners. Overall its just meh to me. I wouldn't say its bad because it wasn't. Its not like I didn't like my meal but I dislike feeling like I just ate a cheese pizza after eating mexican food. If I ever went there again, I'd get the Veggie Fajitas. Good things include a very attentive wait staff, fast and friendly service.

Generally, super fast service and giant beers. What else do you want? Oh yea the burritos are delicious and not too pricey.

This place is great if you want to pig out on fattening Mexican food. The warm chips are great with the white sauce and salsa. My husband and I unfortunately eat almost 2 baskets of the chips every time we go. It's a wonder we're not both 300 lbs. The fare is standard Mexican with MANY choices and combinations. At one point, my husband and I tried something new. Can't remember the name, but the entree was pork chops with a red sauce. It was awesome, and I highly recommend it! They recently added a bunch of seafood entrees, such as crab quesadillas and fish tacos. I decided to try the fish tacos at my last visit. They menus says you will get 3 tacos with a choice of corn or flour tortillas. They got my order wrong and gave me flour instead of corn (this is the first mistake they've made in the times I've been there), and they gave me 4 tacos instead of 3. It was an insane amount of food... Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the tacos -- all they were was chopped up sauteed tilapia in tortillas with pico de gallo and tomatillo sauce on the side. The tomatillo sauce was too hot for me... You can get great fish tacos in many other places; I would not recommend them here. The restaurant sports typical, somewhat tacky Mexican decor. The waiters are always friendly and very prompt. The food comes out fast, and I consider it to be a good value. Just know this is not health food, and probably not the best Mexican food you can get.

I've been to this restaurante on multiple occasions with my classmates, and there's always a good time had by all. The wait staff is always quick with their service and always very attentive to whatever the table needs no matter what size the group. Concerning the food, it's not exactly the best Hispanic Food I've ever had in my entire life, but it definitely feels your guts up and you never leave hungry. Plus, the bottomless chips and salsa don't hurt either. The chips are always warm and fresh, and there's just the right amount of heat in the salsa. Some of my fondest memories about this restaurante are the times of commiserating spent with my fellow cohort members. We've sat there for hours, and the staff is never quick to boot us out the door. They're always patient and quick with drink refills. There've even been times when we've invited our waiter to sit and commiserate with us. And they always gladly acquiesce our request. Again, not exactly the best food that I've ever had, but as far as a place to eat really fattening food and a fellowship with the people that are closest to you; this place is top notch!

Staff is super friendly and if you visit a couple time they remember you. I tend to stick to one this-chicken nachos-when I go there simply because they're really good and why mess with a good thing-they are quick and inexpensive. One thing to keep in mind if it is your first visit---it's walking distance from the University and has a very popular happy hour. If you're not into loud (often drunk) college kids might want to stick to an earlier time or not during happy hour. Not the best mexician but quick, easy, inexpensive and pretty good

This is quick, delcious, inexpensive Mexican food. While it isn't the best Mexican food you'll ever eat--it is a great place to take a noisy family or group. The portions are generous, the tortilla chips are fresh and their fajitas are wonderful as are their margaritas. The service can be a bit spotty and slow, but as long as you're willing to flag your waiter down if you need them--you'll be good to go. This is definately a great spot for casual Mexican food, a quick go to place if you want to be assured you'll get a good, inexpensive meal every time.

The food is, at the very worst, average. However, most days everything is quick, fast and delicious. Not enough can be said about the fresh, warm tortilla chips and the delicious salsa and white sauce. The decor is excellent, the service is authentic and very friendly. Other places might have an edge on minor things but all in all, Plaza is the best Mexican restaurant in town. (Oh yeah, they've got great happy hour prices.)

I was in between 2 and 3 stars on this one, i went for the 2 because of what happened to my stomach about an hour after i ate there. It wasn't fun. Very nice people and a decent atmosphere, the white sauce that comes with the tortilla chips is awesome, but the food seems a bit too quick and not very authentic.

I go to Plaza almost once a week. The guys (and gals) there are friendly and know our drink orders before we even sit down (Diet Coke Hah!). The food is good, free chips and salsa can't be beat and I can't remember the last bad experience after at least 50+ visits. I take the wife and kids every couple weeks to dinner and have never had any issues with service or speediness. Highly recommended and under $10 a person for lunch over $10 for dinner.

Had the Pork Carnitas with refried beans and rice. Delicious. Had soft corn tortillas to wrap up the meat and lettuce, tomato, pica de gallo & guacamole. Very good authentic Mexican. Festively decorated. I'm a repeat customer.

(ACTUAL VISIT 07/24/12) First and foremost our server Jesse (Male), was fantastic and pleasant to talk speak with. Very friendly, very engaging and made excellent recommendations based on our likes. Nothing is more satisfying than having a server who knows the menu. You at least have to go and ask to be served by Jesse. Ok, so I read the reviews which were 3 to 4 stars and decided to try. Now, I am someone who prefers more salty than sweet. Just my preference. I read about the white sauce and the red salsa served with delicious house made chips. The red salsa was amazing as was the white sauce. I prefer the red salsa much more as this was the saltier of the two. The white sauce was different and a nice compliment to the house chips, its a must try. Jesse recommended the chicken fajitas and a pork dish I cannot recall and both were very, very delicious, not overly processsed or too salty. Just a nice full flavor of the chicken, pork, spices and sauces. The fajita would feed 4 people. It was too much, thankfully my wife and I split it with extra to take home. My son ordered a plain soft beef taco. I tried it and wasn't crazy about it however, he ordered it uber plain and the meat had a nice full flavor which did not taste like remnant meat you would find at other establishments. I feel it unfair to mention this here as it appears negative, but I will be making this my next choice when I return. Overall, a great lunch experience with excellent service!!!

Food was just eh and the margarita i had was alright but the place stunk! it smelled like a porter potty! i was really hesitant to eat the food but my girlfriend insisted i try it anyways. I suppose its not the worst thing I've put in my mouth.

If I get a craving for "Mexican" this is where I go. The decor is cheesy Mexican themed with exposed "brick," stucco wall textures and Mexican themed wall murals. It all looked nice and bright and cheery years ago when they opened, but on my last visit one of the "bricks" in our booth had fallen off the wall and the murals on the outside of the building had almost faded away. You can get quite a lot of food for not a lot of money here. The warm chips and white sauce are excellent (although my husband says the white sauce is better at their Easton location). I almost always order the fajitas with either shrimp or chicken. They come fast and hot with the meat, peppers and onions on a sizzler plate, and a second plate of refried beans and a combo of shredded lettuce/tomato/sour cream. You get two or three tortillas wrapped in foil and have to assemble the fajitas yourself. I always ask for a double order of guacamole, which is decent but could be a bit zestier. My main complaint is that the amount of meat/peppers is always way too large for the small tortillas. The service here has always been incredibly fast for us, even when were with a large group. If you want your food RIGHT NOW but don't want fast food, Tapatia is a good option. However, once you've eaten it can be difficult/time consuming to pay your check. They want you to go up front to the register to pay, but they don't have a full-time cashier so you have to wait for your waiter/waitress to finish whatever he/she is doing elsewhere to come get your money. When several tables are trying to pay at once, you may be waiting a while.

Had a quick dinner and 1 drink (as i was driving) on my way back ... Gotta say ... it was alright ... i suppose i wasn't expecting much ... but left stuffed and gassed. my co-conspirator was't too happy about the latter ... oh well ... A good stop and very affordable.

This is my first choice when it comes to Mexican establishments in Salisbury. The food is always phenomenal, the service is always pleasant and prompt, and the chips and dip are always fresh and delicious. I've never had a bad experience there, and I go quite often with my friends. It's always a great atmosphere for the family-friendly crowd as well. I always feel well fed and leave with take-home left-overs. Great establishment and I'd recommend it to any fan of authentic Mexican cuisine.

The south location is awful. Service is less than professional. Food very disappointing. Mixed drinks, well toilet water would have tasted better! Sad to say the least, this used to be a yummy stop over...never again!

My daughter, a student at the college, took us here. It turned out to be one of the tastiest Mexican restaurants we have been too. The salsa with the chips was so good I wanted some to go home with. The food was excellent. We will definitely be going again since this is her senior year.

I've been here a few times and this time I had the supreme burrito, which is probably one of the better dishes here. They have a huge selection of food that it's so hard to figure out what you want. The food is indeed filling and it is good for the area. Their margaritas are pretty good and a margarita pitcher is about $16, but we were able to split it between 4 people, which was not bad.

This isn't gourmet Mexican food by any means, but is superb comfort food. The ambiance is perfect for going out with friends, or even with your S.O. Service is super quick, and the waitstaff always friendly. The menu is quite extensive, and I heartily recommend the enchiladas and burritos. The limitless chips & salsa and awesome drink specials are always plusses, too. We invariably have a great time while there and leave very, very stuffed.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
