My friend and I went to Happy Hour at Dietle's in February 2010 before attending a nearby concert. The bartender was extremely friendly, the beer was cold and affordable, there was a pooltable, a jukebox, and the beer was cold and affordable! Since Whitey's left us in Arlington some years ago, we've been looking for place to drink beer and where people don't ask where you work.

I love this type of place. I work nearby and decided to check it out one evening after work. I was nice out, so I grabbed a beer and sat on the porch. The beer was cheap, but I actually expected it to be cheaper, but maybe that's because I ordered a bottled beer as opposed to a draft. On this particular night there was a large group having a party on the porch, so it was a bit crowded and loud, but the inside seemed more quiet and just people hanging out. The bartender brought my group a bowl of popcorn, but he also knew one of the people I was with, so I'm not sure how standard that is. I'd definitely go back after work in the future.

This is a pretty good old school dive bar to play pool. It has 2 coin-operated pool tables. It is one of the ONLY places for miles around with coin-operated pool tables, so it gets some fairly good players. If you know of any other pub or tavern in the area in which to play bar pool, please let me know -- David@Bar-Pool.com Bar-Pool.com

Do you like posh bars that serve elegant cocktails? Do you enjoy sipping Cosmopolitans on a chaise lounge and soaking up the ambiance of urban chic? THEN DON'T GO HERE. However, if you moved here and realized how lacking the DC area is in terms of local watering holes then Dietle's is for you. Dietle's resembles a shack with a bar in the back. Don't bother asking for a cocktail menu unless you want to be laughed at. Just order a pitcher of cheap beer, put some AC/DC on the jukebox, and let the evening to unfold. I've had experiences here where I have been completely sober but the cast of drunken characters around me made me feel like I was in an insane parallel universe.

I have stopped a Hank Dietle's a few times and have not been disappointed. This is the kind of bar that I would stop in on the way home from work in Pittsburgh PA. You really don't have many local bars here in Rockville that are shot and beer places to drink. Someplace to pregame on the way to a more expensive locale. The only thing Dietle's is missing is a full liquor license. Only wine and beer (and I won't try the wine). Cool place, nice atmosphere, cheap beer, works for me.

Ahhh... Beer bars... And it's just a house, but with a bar in it! I love it. Normally I believe I have an invisible sign that only whack jobs can read and it says "Come talk to me," so when I was approached at Dietle's, I was very wary. But it turns out nice enough people are talkative too. And they hang out here. And after a few beers I go from sour a-hole to someone who will be relatively ok with being roped into a conversation. More so if this conversation is about Jeeps or Ghostbusters 1. I like dives. This is a dive. I like it a lot.

I couldn't say anything bad about Dietle's even if i tried. I live in Adams Morgan, bar capitol of DC, but whenever I need a drink, I come here, cheapest happy hour (6 something for a pitcher) and drafts are always $2.75. No liquor, but if you need some, Dave & Busters is caddy corner across the street. Bartenders are friendly by nature, not just for the tips, and I always manage to strike up a conversation with someone when I go there. As far as food, order your own, or get some chips. Bottom line, don't worry about impressing people just go, sit back and relax, and have a good time!

When I was back in Rockville area in the 80's, I have very fond memories of this dive. Creaky floors and carved up booths and real cheap beer and wine. The price is right, the people are friendly, and the juke box is always roaring. location on Rockville Pike is perfect, across from White Flint, nice to unwind there!

Want a no-frills dive bar, with super-friendly staff and free pretzels? You found it here. If you're looking for the cocktail crowd, you won't find it here, but if you feel the need to relax with a beer in a bar that makes you feel like you've stepped into a Hank Williams country song, this is it.

I came here last night with a buddy after getting roped into Dave & Buster's with some other friends. We're all mid 20's so I guess that's still acceptable right. So I order my beer and the "bartender" says "$7.24" and I look at her first with an expression of shock. "$7.24?!?!?!" You jest good miss. But my shock turns to the look of a man who just lost a hand of poker with the dealer holding the ace in her sleeve. That knowing look of "you got me this time." So my buddy says he wants to get out of there and he suggests this place. We walk in and I know exactly what I'm dealing with. Cheap beer, no liquor, and characters. I barely get my ID back from the beertender (maybe this is Hank?) and immediately have it taken out of my hand by the 40 something woman drunkenly engaged in conversation with another equally "characteristic" 40 something who now is drunkenly engaged with me. It took me second to get my ID back. It really doesn't matter how many stars I give this place. They won't care. I'm only upset that they were closing early because of the snow. But I'll be back because this is the kind of place where douche bags will get chewed up and spit out. I kind of feel proud to have simply survived and enjoy myself. Read the other reviews for more info. I'm here to entertain :)

This dive bar has no pretensions. It serves beer. Cheap beer. It is loud and dirty. The regulars are... regular. Friendly, but not too friendly. The best part about Hank's is that you can order take-out from local pizza joints (try Geppetto's!) and eat it at Hank's with your cheap beer among the regular regulars. They recently re-painted the inside, maybe the first time in 50 years... it's too bad. It lost a bit of the atmosphere. But I still like it.

I have been going to Hanks since I was a kid...my Brother was in a band called the Nighthawks and we always ended at Hanks or McDonalds Raw Bar...it has not changed one bit and that is the way it should stay. No food, but bottled beer and great music...it is a place for all to just hang out and have a beer...

the place rocks, classic american roadhouse in a jungle of bethesda conformity.....for a second there I thought I was on some 2 lane highway headed to luckenbach......yes character and characters,,,,,,,cheap beer and no food - cash only, presentable lavatories (yes its a snob word for a shitter) cause they have hands free paper towel dispensers of all things.........was there on a sunday afternoon to see the Thrillbillys lay down a groove and it was as fine as it gets,,,,,,,,,,,I'll be back,,,,,,,,

Dietle's is as close to a real Honky Tonk as u will find in Montgomery County. In fact I am shocked it's still around. It is the joint for beer and pool and occasionally live music........If you want somewhere fancy this isn't your spot...if you want to drink beer get your butt over there!

Take a step back in time, order a cheap pitcher of cheap beer and do some people watching. Not much going on there but great total dive.
