Friend and I visited today for lunch. I had read the reviews on Yelp beforehand and had my heart set on the steak and cheese sub, and my friend got the pizza lunch special. - steak and cheese (with everything): the first thing that caught my attention was the toasted bread on the sub (crisp on the outside, soft and warm on the inside), then the pickled hot peppers (perfect amount for just the right kick), and large, freshly sliced tomatoes. All the ingredients prepared in the right way made for a beautiful collision. Bravo. I could eat this everyday. - pizza lunch special (pepperoni, mushroom, sausage): 2 slices of pizza and soft drink was the meal. It was good pizza, toppings were quality. If the crust was a bit crisper it would've been ideal. It was interesting to see that pepperoni pizza was not one of the standard options. The pizza starts with just plain cheese, and any additional topping was $0.50 (we felt that was a bit pricey for 2 slices). We are definitely interested in coming back to try their tiramisu and canoli (per the advice of other yelpers)!

Very good food, have had the chicken parm sub, entree and mozarella sticks. Delivery has always been good and pretty timely.

The calzone from D'angelos is delicious! This place is perfect, it has real food you can taste the difference!

Best steak and cheese. I love that this spot recently opened up on Norbeck Road. Fast service/delivery and good prices.

We have eaten here a handful of times, since it is VERY convenient to our house. It's by far the closest pizza place to our house. But their prices are astronomical, their pizza isn't that good, and we are always insanely thirsty after we eat it. I'm not sure what the sodium content is, but the whole family is clamoring for water for hours after Angelo's pizza. The parking, too, just to pick up a pizza, is a nightmare. And we pay extra for that? Just not worth it.

Another place I wish I could give 3.5 stars to. I have been here three times now and each time I have been satisfied. We have had 3 different kinds of sandwiches and the veggie pizza and all were good. The pizza was a little soggy in the middle by the time I got it home and probably would have been better eaten at the store. But still quite tasty. The crust had a nice crispness to it. The sammies were also tasty. My only complaint would be that I thought the prosciutto was on the salty side. Solid food for the "local" pizza place.

Angelo's is great , just finished up lunch and no complaints here. The atmosphere is very casual, great for lunch a couple tables to sit at and a TV. Angelos also delivers. I say to myself...almost every time...that I am going to try something different when I go but I never do, unless you count the bites of other peoples food I manage to scavenge. I always go for a large eggplant Parmesan sub. For starters, and a huge plus, when they say large the mean large I eat just about half, which is a struggle sometimes, and then save half for dinner. It is for sure 12 inches...not like subway (huge rip off, overrated) where a 6 inch is closer to 4 and a 12 closer to 9. The bread is hearty, crusty and great, the sub is always piping hot and made to order not sitting around waiting for someone to come in and order one. The tomato sauce is great too. I always get fries, theirs are great, almost like perfect bowling alley fries but better. Crispy, salty, and always hot. I have had the pizza, some calzones, and other subs and haven't ever been disappointed but I simply prefer the eggplant. Great option, out of the way slightly location isn't great or for large groups to eat in but I don't think you will be disappointed with the food.

I don't know what I'd do for lunch on Saturday afternoons watching golf if Angelo's wasn't five minutes away. I go for the subs and the Calzones because their pizza is pretty meh, but they also have take out refrigerated dinners which are really convenient for a terrible chef like myself. Whenever I get my hair cut at Kim's, I'll walk across the street and have lunch too. Recently I just found out they delivered to my house, although I'm not sure I should be allowed to know their phone number or I'll gain 50 pounds by eating 20 calzones a month.

Excellent coldcut sub -- really, really good. The people are always friendly. The location is a pain but for a good Italian carryout spot in Montgomery County I'm not going to complain about that.

Not what I expected...but I should have believed the rating on yelp. Pizza was not crispy, pepperoni seemed to be good quality. Pasta was ok (we tried spaghetti Alfredo with chicken ).we also tried a calzone with eggplant and ricotta cheese not bad at all. The stars go cus pizza was not crispy as expected and the lady at the register didn't even crack a stupid smile at me. I had my little one with me and the order was big no one bothered to help me and this lady saw me and didn't give a crap about my ordeal. Man please people for the front of a restaurant u better have a nice smily employees cus that is the face of ur place. Not coming back.

From what I've heard from my Italian friend's family, this place makes very good subs and pasta dishes. I liked in interior when I went in- very simple, tables and chairs, deli counter, and TV. Very clean and well lit- the type of place you wouldn't mind stopping in when you're in the area. I had the cold cut Italian with all the toppings. It was good, but not the best I've ever had. The bread could've been better, but I would go back and try their pasta dishes. They also sell Italian staples that you would want to include if you were preparing a homemade dish (dried pastas, garbanzos, fresh cheeses, etc). Nice little place.

Angelos used to be my "go to" place for a fix of pizza, steak and cheese or pasta, but since the original owners sold the place, the food is just not the same. The linguini with shrimp and peppers used be be wonderful - garliclkly, loaded with shrimp - and now it is just a glob of boring pasta with very little flavor. The steak and cheese sandwich is light on steak and heavy on bread - and it seems like the bread is not the same fresh loaves the original owners used to use. I wish the new owners could cook like Mamma and Papa used to.

A new, favorite little spot for me! This is a great Italian deli. They have lunch meats and cheeses for sale by the pound along with a take out menu. They offer a few hot and cold subs, pizza, calzones and italian dinner dishes liked baked ziti and manicotti. I had a cold turkey sub w/ hot peppers...pretty good but my spinach, sausage and cheese calzone was delicious. The bread was thick and soft and the cheese was sooooo fresh. Nice size too. Definitely good for 2 people. I did have to wait for about 30 minutes for my order, but at least you know it's fresh. There was a nice stream of people constantly coming in and picking up orders. I will definitely have to try the pizza because that was in high demand when I was there. They also have some Italian grocery staples for sale. It's a clean, mom and pop kind of business with grandma, brother and sister working on a Saturday night. Nice feel.

While I don't like the pizza, the pasta and subs are very good here. This is in fact one of my "secret spots" for a cheesesteak ... I love the french bread that they put subs on!

I am from Philly and appreciate a good cheese steak which is hard to find around Rockville. I ordered the pizzeola with pizza sauce and mozzarella and it was very tasty. My only suggestion is to not chop the steak. It will be juicier if you grill on both sides. Kudos on the good roll! Nice to see you carry cannoli too! I'll try the pizza next time.

Angelo's is a great option for fast, inexpensive Italian food in the Olney area. I have ordered food from here multiple times and have never been disappointed. My husband always gets either the Italian cold cut sub or the imported cold cut sub and he says both are delicious. I have had subs, pasta, and tonight I had a pepperoni and ricotta calzone. It was the best calzone I have ever tasted and actually inspired me to write this review. I am looking forward to trying the pizza soon.

I've been coming to this location for years. I used to go to the Cloverly location since I was 15 back in 1993. They sold the Cloverly spot and relocated here. They have awesome subs and great pasta, chicken parm, etc. dinners you can get from their refrigerated area. Their pizza is great as well. Located about 5 min from Olney, MD.

Oh my gosh! Such a must go to if I could give any words of encouragement to go! I ordered the linguine and vodka sauce.. it was knocked out of the park! The noodles were a perfect and I mean absolutely perfect aldenté. The sauce. . Oh gracious, the right amount of acid and creamyness. . Goodness! It was topped off with plenty of amazing parmesan shreds. Now how it was served.. in a giant to go plastic container.. do not, I repeat, do not get a plate, the container serves as the multipurpose bowl and to go container. You get a good 2 pounds in a serving, which is plenty for your monies worth. I never even touch the garlic bread at any place, but this stuff is pretty fantastic. Check out their grocery and freezer selection! They carry San Marzano tomatoes! Definitely the best pasta around besides Piazza Mia in Dover. Definitely made a return customer out of me!

A great little lunch place! Perhaps one of the Olney area's best kept secrets! They specialize in Italian food, but I LOVE their steak and cheese. The bread is crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. Yum!!! The french fries are super crispy and delish. After a long morning of climbing, I was famished, and it was EXACTLY what I needed. My friend got the imported club sandwich and I had a bite. Phenomenal! My only recommendation would be to get the bread toasted...even if your sandwich is cold. It just improves the sandwich exponentially! They also have a mini grocery inside where they sell various imported Italian foods, and homemade staples like pasta and tiramisu! Okay, I'm salivating. I need to stop writing about this. Just GO.

I love their pizza. It has now become my "go-to" place for pizza night. They also have a good selection of fresh made, frozen, Italian food, like homemade ravioli and manicoti. I would give them 5 stars, but they refuse to include Pineapple as a topping...and I love me some Hawaiian pizza.

I'm really surprised this place hasn't gotten more reviews. It's a small owned family business from what I can tell. I've only come here so far for their Calzones, and their calzones are just amazing. It's cheesy in the inside, and filled with lots of ingredients. It's also really big, so it'll definitely fill you up. They also give you decent amount of sauce on the side. Last time I was here, I think it ran me up for about $10, but well worth it if you love calzones. If you are craving calzones, you should definitely come here. I'm going to try their pizza and pasta next...

This little place is one of the gems for this area. Diane M's review further down is mistaken. The same family owns it, but the older couple gave it over to the kids to operate. The calzones are amazing, but get the imported version of the Italian Sub (they have a regular & imported). Mm-um! GREAT PLACE!!! I wish I lived closer or I'd go there more.

I've loved Angelo's for years. Just getting around to writing my review. While I still go there, and will continue to, I just have to point out that it doesn't feel the same when you walk in. It used to feel like one big happy family and you were ordering your food in someones home kitchen. Not so much anymore, much more business like, which I guess it should be. Just doesn't feel the same. BUT - The pizza is always on point as are the imported cold cut subs.

AWESOME! We had a last minute party on an ugly rainy night. Called in a pretty big order of many random entrees and pizzas and desserts. Order was on time, hot, and delicious! We had lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, sausage baked ziti, subs, tiramisu, canals and to die for pumpkin cheesecake. FAB-U-LOUS!

To me, this is the best pizza in Montgomery County. I know thats not saying a whole lot, but it should mean something. I haven't been able to grasp just why this area can provide so many amazing restaurants of unbelievable varieties, yet can't put out an awesome, greasy, classic pizza. At Angelos, I usually go with your standard cheese or pepperoni, but their white pizza is delicious. Staff friendliness fluctuates, but if you need someone to smile at you, you need a therapist not a pizza. Anyhow, this place is great and cheap. "Nuff said.

Love this place! It used to be in my neighborhood and then moved away. It is very hard to find a good Italian Deli in this area - and this one is good. I especially love their Tomato and Caprese sub. They use great bread. The pizza and calzones are great as well. They also have some frozen pastas you can bring home and make for dinner. If you are looking for an Italian Deli in the Olney/Rockville area - this is the place to go!

I haven't had their pizza but their subs and pasta are the best in the Rockville area. The pasta is made in the store and you can taste the freshness when you take it home and cook it. A great place for take out but don't overlook their deli. They have great cheeses, olives and meats.

I stopped in here last week and bought two of the large steak and cheese subs, because some of the previous yelp reviews said how good they were. These subs are all I can actually comment on. The subs are OK, but the bread is a little hard. At over $19(with tax) for the two subs, I think that Subway is a better deal. I probably won't be going back here for subs, but I may try some of their pizza some day.

The pizza is just ok, but the calzones make the place worth 5 stars. One of the best calzones I've ever had.

Friendly service, delicious food. Haven't cooked a lot due to surgery. Discovered Angelo's in the nick of time! Something for everyone in the family. Bought some provolone to take home one day. Great stuff!

The subs here are great. My only beef is that I'm not in love with the pizza. I've given it 3 tries and I really can't put my finger on it. It's a bit too salty and there is something different about the cheese (it's either a cheese blend or has parm on it). I like a pure mozzarella pie. I'm a native NY'er and maybe I'm a bit too picky.....

The pizza is great over here. I have been coming for over a year now and it has always been good. Nice little place with good food and friendly service. The ingredients are always fresh. I am very picky when it comes to that type of stuff and I only go for high quality food and this place does it best.

We tried Angelo's tonight and were quite pleased! The restaurant is absolutely sparkling clean. There is a nice deli section (Boar's Head) some grab and go items, including ready-to-heat pasta meals and frozen ravioli, tortellini, etc. Pantry items like Sun of Italy tomatoes, pepperoncini, etc. We opted to "eat in" at one of the booths. We had mozzarella sticks (meh ... just the regular stuff), a sausage sandwich (the roll was GREAT) and a cheese pizza. We're from Philly, so the pizza wasn't quite right, but much better than the stuff we usually find in Maryland. Cheese was good, sauce was nice, but the crust was a little dense and thick. Still, overall, quite tasty and much, much better than MD average. We didn't dare try the cheesesteaks. As a rule, if the restaurant offers lettuce/tomato/mayo on a cheesesteak, we steer clear. You could be stoned to death for desecrating a perfectly good cheesesteak in Philly for that. :) Parking is abysmal - that was really the only downer. Great place to take the kids since it is so casual and so nice and clean! We will be back!!

Lived about a mile or so from this place for over two years and just getting around to trying this place out. So far so good! We had a veggie pizza, meatball sub and a eggplant parm. All were fresh and tasted great. I would choose to support this place over a chain anyday. There are places to eat in, but it is not a restaurant with service. Takeout, delivery and catering seems to be their thing.

    (4)
  • Naomi G.

I didn't hate it!! That is a huge compliment from this recent NYC transplant who hates all local pizza. We were ordering for a party in an unfamiliar area at an outside venue, and google brought us to some chain pizza places, or to Angelo's. I refuse to do chain (again, pizza snob), so we chose Angelo's sight unseen. It wasn't bad at all, and many of our guests asked where we got it. What could make it better? Thinner, and a crisper bottom crust. Reasonable enough price, and if we lived closer it would be our go-to choice.

there pizza and pasta is ok, there subs are good, but there bread is too hard on cold subs...

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
