BOTTOM LINE: ROAST BEEF SIGNATURE SUB!! They're off the beaten path that's for sure. You might not know what it is when you're passing it. Make sure to look it up in advance! If it weren't for yelp I'd have never found out about this place! Now I'm a regular! So thank you so very much fellow yelpers! They have a sick selection of milkshakes and snowballs etc. which I'll try eventually...just not when I'm prepping for my wedding dress :) TIME TO GO: Saturdays and Sundays can be VERY busy, especially in the summer. If you go on those days try not to go during primetime lunch or evening hours. The rest of the week when I pop in it's usually just me, maybe one or two other people. Staff is super nice and super quick. Great place for people working in the area to pop in and get a sub to go. FOOD: Get the smaller size as it's more than enough sub. If you don't want a particular ingredient tell them, they're great at making you the sub you want. Like so many others I usually get the "Roast Beef Signature" and have been doing so for 3 years. It's one of those subs where you're like maaaaaaybe I should try something else but I love this so much I can't. That being said, for the sake of yelp I've tried a few new things which have been good, but not as good as the RBS. - Roast Beef Melt = not as good as signature. - BBQ Beef = too soggy once I got it home. Might be better if you eat it there. - Ham and Cheese Melt = ok...again not as good as my fav. - Salads = skip them...nothing special and overpriced. Make your own at home or at a nearby grocery store. - Fries = they seem fine to me having grown up on Boardwalk fries. You just have to know how to spruce them up a bit yourself (aka old bay and vinegar). I get them nearly every time I'm here. ONLY COMPLAINT: I'm still giving them 5 stars even if my last experience wasn't 100. 99% of my many visits have been scrumptious so I won't hold one experience against them because they happened to be training a new employee. Needless to say the training didn't go so well resulting in an under par sub but I've since been back and enjoyed what I'm used to. My only advice is that the owners be there when training new employees because this single time during training my usual sub was so not right.

I came here for lunch today, and I'm giving it a 3 mainly because 2 of my coworkers really enjoyed their sandwiches. They ordered the meatball sandwich and the Reuben, and loved it. And I have to admit, those sandwiches looked pretty good. I ordered the honey mustard chicken sandwich since I had already passed my beef quota for the week (and it's only Thursday). The sandwich was doused in honey mustard, and way too much chicken. The only good thing was the bread. My other coworker got a buffalo chicken sandwich and had the same complaint: too much sauce and chicken. The sauce got a little overbearing. The chicken tasted like it was pre-packaged from Costco, and not very fresh. Also, all the empty tables were dirty and it wasn't very busy when we walked in. I wouldn't come here again.

This spot takes me back to subs back in the day, well the one I had anyway. The taste of the sub combined with the ambiance of the shop sort of reminded me of the early 90's. But okay enough nostalgia. I had the Italian sub. While it wasn't packed with black olives, cucumbers, you know all the toppings one can get at Subway, the simplicity of it is what I think made it really good. The oregano or spices they put on it are definitely good. I usually try not to get white bread, but the authentic sub experience calls for white bread! Also, the day I wasn't some teenagers were running it, and I was pleasantly surprised at their good service. Usually teenagers running any restaurant usually means an epic fail, but these knew what they were doing.

It's been a few years ago already but the one time I ate there with a friend we both got milkshakes which tasted good but made us both terribly sick. Beware the curdled milkshakes.

Amazing subs, too bad they don't get more traffic on old 216. Even though it's tucked away, subs are really good (bread is WONDERFUL!). Gotta get the italian with the works. Staff is friendly and the food is made quickly to order.

Great place to get consistently good sandwiches. I have been going in there for years with my kids, and now that they are older we stop by when they come and visit. Portions are perfect and quality is always right. My favorite is the club sandwich. Tip: call ahead since they can get packed at some times of the day!

Pepperjacks is a pretty great place. We stopped here on Memorial Day to get some subs before we went fishing. The folks behind the counter were super nice, and gave us plenty of smiles and suggestions. They were all pretty young and seemed happy to be working, even on Memorial Day. The subs were great and very big. They are piled high with everything you ask for and the Boardwalk Fries were an awesome surprise. They had about 4 containers of Old Bay to sprinkle on the fries. There is ample seating in the restaurant and also a few tables outside. They also sell milkshakes and snow balls, although we didn't get to try them.

It's a shoddy dive. It could be endearing if it had great food, but it just looks like a shack inside and out. Food was average at best, plain hum-drum sub. And just because it comes in a cup that says Boardwalk fries, and they offer old bay and vinegar doesn't make them boardwalk fries. I'd be seriously shocked if those fries were cut and fried fresh in peanut oil (how real Boardwalk fries are actually made), instead of the bland frozen fries that I suspect them to be.

Thank you Yelp for letting me in on this great secret! The outside is really nothing to look at, but the food inside is GREAT! I enjoyed a wonderful BBQ Salad - green leaf lettuce, cucumbers, tomato, cheddar cheese, BBQ chicken and ranch on the side. My wife enjoyed a BBQ Burger -- DELICIOUS! Burger was cut in half and served on a ciabatta roll - really great! Staff a wonderfully friendly. Inside the restaurant has a clean friendly environment. Stop by and enjoy a great meal!

My fiance and I enjoy trying different things. We heard about it through Groupon/LivingSocial and decided to try it. It's pretty cool. Its an old gas station converted to a deli shop with fresh sandwiches. Quality I ordered a cheeseburger sub and it came out pretty good. The burger was fresh, the veggies were fresh. It could have been a little bigger. But, I am not complaining. Service You walk in and there is a friendly server waiting to take your order. It was only a couple people working in there at the time we arrived, but they provided us with great service like we were the first customers EVER! They have a wide variety of sandwiches to choose from. Don't only think of the basic sandwich, think more on the lines of Buffalo Chicken sub and things like that.

My family and I love Pepperjacks. Every time we have been here the food has been amazing and the staff is always friendly and helpful!

Good subs made with fresh ingredients. Nice people behind the counter. Kind of hidden off on a neighborhood road. Limited parking. Subs actually come out looking like the pictures on the menu.

Having grown up in Philly, I am always looking for something that comes close to a real Hoagie. This place is the closest I have found. They have the best bread which really makes the sandwich. The meats are fresh and generous. Plus, they have great milk shakes. After having found this place, I have not problem driving up to 20 minutes to enjoy their sandwiches.

  • Adam A.

Awesome local spot that has great fresh sandwiches with generous portions. The atmosphere is relaxing and the service is good.

  • Sharon Q.

This place is a dump. It has dirty walls (looks like it was splattering while making milk shakes or sauces) and dirty toilet and floors. The seating is very low and it almost hurt my back. Unsafe and unsanitary place to eat. The staff seemed somewhat not friendly to me. I'm hearing-impaired and this lady wrote down very impatiently with me.

I was looking for a place to eat for cheesesteaks and stumbled across this place with the help of a few yelp reviews. I checked it out and liked what I got. They didn't have cheesesteaks but their variation which was roast beef thinly sliced n added with all your cheesesteak fixings sufficed. I want to try it again because I unfortunately ordered my food then had to run an errand so it was a little cold but that is more to do with me and not the deli so I want to try it again hot to give a better take but even semi warm I enjoyed it. I loved how soft the bread was (very big on the right bread can make or break a sandwich), onions were fresh n the provolone melted well.

Having moved out of town for school and such about four years ago, I always am looking for a reason to visit Pepperjacks. The food is great, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the service is great. Their bread puts other sub shops to shame and their toppings are nothing but fresh. I have recently made it a personal goal to try everything on the menu since it is all so good. I have brought a couple out of town friends to Pepperjacks for lunch and they have all loved it almost as much as I have. They also have great ice cream, milkshakes, and Snow Balls in the summer. :)

Roast beef melt no mayo. It was incredible. Best sub or sandwich I've had in years. The milkshakes sound decedent and delicious, but I try to limit my calorie intake :(. Stop in for a sub to go. Get the roast beef melt. Crusty bread, melt in your mouth flavorful meat, fresh veggies, just enough cheese. Yum! PS- snowballs still suck!

DELICIOUS! After being stuck in traffic for hours, hubby and I decided to pull off and find something to eat. We stumbled upon this place and boy are we glad we did! Hubby got the steak and cheese while I had the bbq roast beef with onions and horseradish. SO good! The meat was melt in your mouth tender and the sweet in the bbq sauce coupled with the spice from the horseradish made for the perfect sandwich! Can't wait to go back and try the funnel cake fries! Side note: The young man with the dreds was extremely helpful.

This place is fantastic. I've yet to have anything here I didn't like. They have a selection of subs and sandwiches, to include burger type subs. I've had the Santa Fe Chicken Sub, a California Club Special, the normal Club, and I've eaten with someone who has had three other subs (To include the Reuben, which he said was amazing). Their fries are fantastic. A bit salty--be warned, I like my fries on the salty side--for those that don't like salt, you may need to ask for them without salt. They also have a selection of ice cream, and shakes/malts. Anyplace that goes through the effort of buying malt powder, to turn normal shakes into amaza-balls malts, gets extra points in my book. They have a limited selection of Fountain Drinks/Pop/Soda/etc. Coke, Diet Coke, Orange, Ice Tea (I think?) and something else. No Root Beer/Dr. Pepper/Mellow Yellow (or Mt. Dew, if you were on the pepsi side), of that nature. But honestly, the subs, and malts, are good enough. They also have fresh baked cookies. The interior is simple. A few booths (say..5?) and a bar area near the shake/malt/ice cream area, with another 6 or 8 seats. I've only eaten here at lunch, but most people seem to get their food to go (Honestly, it's set back a bit from the big thoroughfares, so that isn't surprising), they are quick, although you may have to wait a few minutes as they delicately make your sandwich. When you order, they come pre-loaded with specific toppings--but you can make requests to add or subtract specific toppings. There is a TV that is on most of the time, but without sound, so you can actually focus on your friends/family, and eat. This is a great treat at lunch, and I drive from Ft. Meade, all the way down to Scagsville, just to get a good sub.

Corned beef sandwich (reuben) was pretty good. They put cream cheese on it. Kind of different but I liked it. Wemet the owner, she was really nice. If I were her I would swap out all the old sandwich photos for a fun blackboard with colored chalk. Everyone knows what classic american sandwiches look like and the pictures weren't that great.

Great sub, fast, friendly, priced right. Will return.

This is the place to go in Scaggsville for delicious, reasonably priced subs. Family owned and operated, the atmosphere is very homey and welcoming. All subs and sandwiches are made with high-quality ingredients, and while all are good, my personal 2 favorites are the Santa Fé Chicken and the Classic Roast Beef served with fresh mozzarella and balsamic (ask them to go easy on the balsamic). RIght off 29 and 216, this local favorite couldn't me more convenient or welcoming. Check it out next time you're in the Fulton/Laurel/Scaggsville area! You won't be disappointed.

We got a steak and cheese sub and a rueben sandwich. Both were great! Atmosphere is nice and we will defintely be going back. They also have ice cream and sno balls.

Nice little place close by, great for when we want quick meal with no hassle. I've had the meatball and the roast beef melt, both good. The milkshakes are also pretty good. Better than any of the chains by far.

  • Zi-Heng Z.

I'm sure there are other good sandwiches, but the Steak and Cheese I got was not stellar. It was a lot of sub, which made up somewhat for it slack of flavor. A lot of meat, which i like, but nothing to counterbalance the blandness of the beef. Bread is good, but nothing special. Willing to give it another try tho...looks like it has potential.

This little sub shop is located just down the road and so can't be beat in terms of convenience. It is located in an old gas station and serves a variety of subs, salads, 'Boardwalk' fries, soups, and ice cream. The menu variety is impressive for such a small establishment. In terms of quality, however, it can leave a lot to be desired depending on what you order. Various family members have been impressed by their sub offerings, which are always served hot and fresh. As a vegetarian, I will say that they have few options available. They could improve this by offering a wider variety of vegetables beyond lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and 'hots'. I have been less-than-impressed by Pepperjack's salads, which mainly consist of iceberg lettuce topped with cut onions, a few tomatoes, and then whatever 'salad' (chicken, tuna, etc.) that you choose. For the price, I would expect much more.

It's a side of the road joint. Be prepared. It' an old 'house' like building that was a gas station in the 30's. These is very little seating & any seating is outdoors..... The place is a sub shop & ice cream parlor. The subs were very good! Meat & cheese was fresh. Fries were nice and crunchy. Chicken salad was just ever so slightly dry for all the RIGHT reasons and not drenched in mayonnaise. The chicken salad was extremely meaty made with all white meat. Sub rolls were fresh and very good. We only got subs. I found it very reasonably priced. A regular sub was a more then adequate size & stuff. I would recommend it! Do not be fooled by the exterior.

  • Michele W.

Great value and quality ingredients. The sub rolls hold up well with just the right amount of softness and chewiness. The signature roast beef is popular. Roast beef, mozarella, L,T and a balsamic vinegrate. Italian cold cut uses both hots(crushed cherry peppers) and bananna peppers. Of course there are many other tasty choices. They also have milkshakes and other goodies

This place is definitely worth a stop. I had the tuna sub and it was toasty and delicious. The bread was the perfect combination of soft and crunchy. I also got the birthday cake shake (it had some funny name involving the word blue) and it was sooooo good. It was thick with sprinkles mixed in- perfect for this summer heat.

What a great spot! I am not from the area and found it in my gps's "points of interest: all food." The place was empty when I walked in, but the two people working seemed busy making sandwiches. Probably phone orders. When they noticed me, one stopped and took my order. Two large clubs, large italian and fries. I took a seat by the ice cream soda bar and took a look around. Pepperjacks is an old school neighborhood joint. They look like they've been there since the 50s. I wish I had kids so I could take them there after little league games. My order was prepared very quickly and I was out the door. Everyone enjoyed the sandwiches! Packed full of meat and flavor. I only ate half of mine, but I'm excited about finishing the rest for dinner. Great spot. I wish my neighborhood in dc had a place like this.... That served beer : ) 5 stars!

Stopped by here after seeing a sign for it on Rt 216. We decided to go in since my husband and I were looking for a mom and pop sub shop in the area. He got a cheesesteak sub and I ordered a snoball. I didn't try the sub, but my husband said it was good, even though it fell apart as soon as he started eating it. The skylight snoball on the other hand, was a disappointment. Nearly not enough flavor until you reach all the way to the bottom, but it had a decent amount of marshmallow on top. Service was okay, but the cashier/ person taking our order wasn't very knowledgeable about their products/ menu. Since we didn't see a cheesesteak on the menu, we asked if they had them. The cashier kept asking us if we wanted cheesecake several times after repeating cheesesteak. I guess he was new, but seriously, if you don't know what a cheesesteak is, why are you working at a place that sells subs/ sandwiches? I also asked about what different flavors they had for the snoballs and he had no idea. Luckily there was another girl behind the counter who was more helpful. It's too bad we probably won't be returning since the prices are good and I haven't seen many snoball stands south of Baltimore.

They make some good subs! I had the signature roast beef a few weeks ago and it was delicious! I then had the Italian cold cut yesterday and it was fantastic. I don't even usually get a cold cut sub but this was delicious! I plan to try more of their subs.

Counter service deli sandwich side of the road joint -- four star rating really because I was so happy to find something other than a chain restaurant a few miles off 95. Friendly, small town service and a decent italian sub. The light of Scaggsville, MD!

This is a cool little joint that has good sandwiches. I mainly go for the ice cream and milkshakes. There's minimum seating inside but prices aren't too bad. Definitely a good choice if you want to try a new quick spot for lunch.

This neighborhood joint used to be an old gas station, today they serve up boardwalk fries, fresh deli sandwiches, cookies, and ice cream swirls. On a hot summer days you will find neighborhood folks sipping on cold drinks or eating ice cream. The veggie sandwich with chipotle sauce is a 4 star treat! Come here for a quick bite, and let the local high school kids take your order, then go outside and enjoy your meal as you watch the cars drive by, people jog, and the summer breeze hit your face!

I'm from California and this was my first time ever driving through Maryland. We were hungry so we pulled off the side of the road and boy did we get lucky! I ordered the signature roast beef and it was amazing. Fresh bread, perfectly salted roast beef, and just the right amount of vinaigrette made this the best sandwich I have EVER eaten in the state of Maryland, (also the only one.) The girls that worked there were very friendly, yet quick and also rolled my sandwich in "to go" paper more tightly and cleanly than I have ever seen. Overall I give this place a 9.5 for a sandwich shop. For reference, Subway is a 3.0.

With warm nights coming, Pepperjacks Deli just south of Rte 216 is a great option for an easy dinner -- delicious sandwiches and then ice cream or a shake to enjoy outside. My current search is for interesting sandwiches in Howard County. This is a search for basics -- good bread paired with good fillings. Personally, I like rolls with a crust to them, and I'm a fan of interesting deli or an interesting twist -- rather than huge subs covered in melted cheese. Subway and Boar's Head deli work for me, but you can get them anywhere so I'm looking for one step above. Pepperjacks delivers. Well, actually you have to go to the shop just south of Rte 216. But Pepperjacks delivers the good bread, good fillings that I want in a sandwich. Don't be fooled by the outside, which is ramshackle enough that I had driven past until I got recommendations from other people. Inside, it's a cozy takeout shop that serves up mostly sandwiches, fries and ice cream. There are a few seats and a playground outside. My Italian sandwich was delicious. Thin-sliced meats with fresh vegetables on a roll that tasted as if it were baked on site (as they advertise) even if it wasn't the best I had ever eaten. The deli was my favorite -- tasty and flavorful, but not greasy. I knew it was good after I finished when I realized that I spread on mustard, my way to spice up any mundane sandwich. Pepperjacks offers a large menu of sandwiches, and other folks have talked up the Roast Beef Signature and the turkey rueben. They also serve Boardwalk fries, which they seemed to be frying up for each individual order. We'll go back to try more.

When the weather is nice, go here, grab a sub made on freshly-baked rolls, and eat outside. I love the burger sub!

Craving a milkshake? Snowcone? Ice Cream with sprinkles? How about a sammich and some fries? If so, then Pepperjacks is your one stop shop. I found this little gem while wandering around one day and decided to give it a try. I had a chicken sub and a milkshake (yes, it is in interesting combination) and I instantly became hooked on their shakes. I've been back three times for chocolate milkshakes!!! Additional notes: *Not too much room if you're looking to sit down an eat inside. It's more of a carryout joint. **This place gets packed during evenings on the weekends. Expect a line!!!

  • Danielle B.

The sandwiches here are very good-- fresh deli meat, warm bread, good cheeses (the fresh mozzarella is awesome). Head and shoulders above subway and other sandwich shop chains. The ice-cream disappoints me. It is a bit gritty and cold (yes, ice-cream is supposed to be cold, but cream-based ice cream is smooth and does not get as cold as milk-based ice "cream". In sum, a great neighborhood place. Good sandwiches at fair prices. Would be a four or five star rating from me if their ice cream were better.

    (3)
  • James H.

I like the subs that they make here and there board walk fries. My only complaint is the young girls that work here seem to be prejudice and are not friendly. The reason for the 3 rating.

Awesome subs. It's off the beaten path but totally worth taking a detour in your day. Highly recommended. Italian sub is great. Roast beef sub is delicious too. P.S. They have boardwalk fries!

One of the best places for takeout in the area. Pepperjacks is reliably good. The bread for the subs is awesome, the food always tastes fresh, and the staff is very friendly. Favorites include the Reuben, the bbq beef sub, wings, and fries. The ice cream is a nice treat, too. A neighborhood gem that we didn't discover quick enough, but glad to know it's there now!
