My co-worker got me some oxtail which was extremely awful. It smelled and looked disgusting but I tried it anyway because I may have been wrong... Please beware or you just might get sick messing around.

PROS: Nice clean location, staff is nice and clean. CONS: Long wait times, even after calling ahead. Food quality and taste is average. Biggest con is the really small quantity of food. Summary: As a single man, i have tried quiet a bit of African restaurants in the DC metro area and i find the Nigerian ones have the smallest quantity of food. "Kitchen near you" (Cameroonian) in Hyattsville, MD still gets my vote for the overall best around here. Also consider: (Jamaican) Island Flavors, Laurel, MD (Ghanaian) Sahara Oasis, Hyattsville, MD (Ghanaian) Gold Coast Restaurant, Beltsville, MD (Latin) Pollo A La Brasa, Laurel, MD

First off, I don't understand why the sign on this place says "Carribbean and African". This is NOT, and I repeat is NOT a Carribbean establishment. I won't comment on the African food - the Jallof Rice was fine, the Fried Rice lacked flavor. But, the food that they call "Carribbean" is not even cooked up to Carribbean standards. The oxtails are so hard and rough and lack flavor, meat & color. What Carribbean make their oxtail like that!!? *sucks teeth*~~!!! False advertisement to say the least. Will never go back here!

First, let me say that I am African before I write this review so it saddens me to post and the one star is only because I received food at the end of the night. My company and I came in about half an hour before they closed at nine and waited at the desk to be serviced. The lady was helping someone else picking up and although I was there before others coming in she continued to help them (without even an acknowledgment to wait for a moment or anything for that matter) by this time she's helped the other customers and another man from the back comes out and asks if we've been helped, I proceed to tell him we hadn't and asked if the kitchen was open before I placed an order. He told me it was and to hold for a moment and wait for her. After waiting about 15 minutes now for her to come back out I proceeded to tell her I would like to order jallof, efo riro and suya-- they didn't have any suya, okay? what about beef and pepper kabob-- we don't have that either... At this point just give me the jallof and efo riro. We wait for about 30 minutes and I opened the container to see how the food looked before she rushed to bag it. No spinach in there anywhere. I inform her she just gave me red stew. Her response "Oh yeah you wanted spinach" (I am not Nigerian so I made sure to confirm before I placed the order that it was a spinach dish) she goes to the back for 5 minutes and comes with a very little container of spinach and walks in the back before I could say anything. At this point I've paid before I even received the food (shame on me) so I'm just fed up and ready to go. I leave out and my company feels ripped off, paying almost 16 dollars for just jallof, and efo riro with chicken "combo." He goes back to ask her for another container and she's locked the door at this point. I'm not usually someone to write bad reviews because I believe a business can sometimes just have that one horrible employee but this was ridiculous and shame on the owner for putting her in the front to interact with customers. I was very dissatisfied and will not be returning and I feel any potential customers or whoever manages this place should know about this.

The food absolutely make no sense. They need some form of consistency period. Today the food is partially good (not so ok) tomorrow it beyond bad to say the least. I bought the efo riro yesterday and I literarily threw the dawn thing away, people are ready to pay regardless of the price but common stay focused and let the food be at least tasty. Will try one more time and if no improvement that will certainly be it.

The food is mostly Nigerian (and no such thing as African food). I have been here a couple of times and patronize them because I want them to do well. When you walk in a nice young lady takes your order and she disappears in the back. You sit and wait and wonder what goes on behind the back door. By some magical happening, she reappears with your food and if your lucky, it's in a takeout bag otherwise she walks back into the abyss with the food try and bags it up for your take out. Make sure to check your order because many stories abound of mistaken orders. The food is taste and never bland. However get ready for loads of rice and a ration of meat here and there. If your lucky, you get to sink your teeth on three pieces of cubed meat. Not the size of meat your momma use to drop in your plate as a teenager. The Jollof rice is the best, but a little more veggie would do too. The decor at this restaurant is like stumbling into Death Valley and expecting the glamour of Las Vegas. A lot can be done to prune up this place. Maybe a visit by Chef Ramsey would do. Can't wait to see that episode of Kitchen Nightmares. This is not a Caribbean restaurant, it is not an African Restaurant, but it is a Nigerian restaurant.

I tried to place an catering order to pick up at noon the next day. I was told that there was no way that they could have it ready for me because they open at 10am? As a business owner, I know you can come in early to make a catering order....instead I drove all the way to Riverdale, they were willing.

Tried this place out for the first time. I called for pickup. My food was ready within 15 minutes. The fried fish was amazing, jollof rice was great and plantains were freshly fried.

Kingsway has stepped up their game....do not sleep on them. Their specialty is not Caribbean food, it's Nigerian and it's excellent at its best. I am not a fan of the goat meat, too boney but their assorted meat is exquisite and is guaranteed to satisfy and tantalize your palette. The egusi is the best in the Washington/dc area. No they did not pay me and I am basing my review of the many versions I have tried. The food is fresh and well made. I mainly order on weekends. Try the fried rice entree with assorted meat or the jollof rice. You will not be disappointed by the egusi with pounded yam.

I'm giving a star for the service and a star for the chicken. I was really craving African food and found this place on yelp. Despite the mixed reviews i ordered online. I got a callback saying their online menu was wrong, the prices were wrong, they didn't have certain food anymore, etc. So i drove down to place my order. The young guy at the register was kind and i ordered fish and chicken with jollof rice and a couple meat patties. They did not have any pepper cups and i asked if they could make my food spicy. they said they had a spicier sauce they could put over the chicken. When i got the food, the chicken had really good flavor, although was not spicy AT ALL. The fish was just ok, the jollof rice tasted about two days old, and the meat patties also had no flavor. I'm not sure if they try to bring the flavor down to cater to american's but it's not a great idea if they do! I don't think i'd come back, the food was basically flavorless :(

The reviews are pretty accurate. The food is overpriced. The portions are way off. The restaurant has a weird layout. You walk in and it looks like a banquet facility with space and limited seating with gaudy chandeliers. Parking sucks, I parked near Pizza Hut. Wished I had more fish, but after tasting it the size was appropriate. The fish tasted old (maybe the grease, but it was not fresh) had a smell to it. The rice was 80% of the meal. It lacked a lot of seasoning. Had the right heat spice but needed the smokey taste. The fufu was decent but the portion was about as much as the rice. If I had to do it again I would get everything as sides minus the fish. Sadly I would walk across the street to mid Atlantic and get some decent fish (as much as I despise that place).

I've been patronizing this business for quite a while (before they moved to the space on baltimore avenue), and it saddens me to write this review, but I'm done with Kingsway. On two consecutive occasions, they decided to delay my catering order without any sort of consolation. First, it was my birthday a few weeks back. I'd called a few days ahead to order 2 dozen fish rolls and a tray of stewed chicken. I was told my order will be ready by 1pm. My bf arrived at around 4pm to pick up the order and had to wait for an hour!! I was disappointed, but decided to give them one more try (since that was the first time they delayed my order). Then, it was my sister in laws baby shower yesterday. I'd called a few days ahead to order 3 dozen meatpie and a dozen fish roll. I'd let them know that I'd been disappointed pretty recently and would like my order to be ready for pick up by 11am. They said 11am was too early and insisted on 1pm. I agreed. I called the day before just to confirm my order, and they confirmed it'd be ready by 1pm. Well, I arrived at Kingsway at 4pm and my order wasn't ready. I had to wait for about 45 minutes and I was already running late. I arrived at the baby shower only to realize that the meatpie filling was pink (i.e. not cooked properly) and the fishroll dough tasted raw (also not properly cooked). Overall, Kingsway has amazing stewed chicken and fishrolls, I'd give them that. However, their service has really deteriorated since moving to the baltimore av location. I'd also recommend they consider having a board that has a listing of their menu (vs. the handouts they give when you come in...save some paper and printing). I am very disappointed in Kingsway and hope the business gets it's act together.

Let me start off by saying it PAINS me to make this review. Like it hurts me to my CORE. I'm sure people will have things to say, but as a connoisseur of good eatin (specializing in good ethnic eatin) you have to trust that I'm being honest and I know my stuff. HUGE SIGH. Well, here goes... Staff: The cashier/ host was kind. He greeted me as soon as I entered, had a great personality & was honest. Restaurant: Clean & inviting. Be careful with the front door though. There's no spring and it'll swing backwards hard and you can shatter the glass. There's a clean sink with soap in the hallway outside of the restrooms to wash your hands for eating. (I really like that). Food: My food arrived within 10 minutes of me ordering. No, I did not call ahead. I was initially pleased for not having to wait, but never have I ever had to wait less than 30 minutes at an ethnic spot for a meal so I should have known something was awry. (NOTE: If you dine at an authentic ethnic establishment and expect your food to come out quickly, you need to leave & have several seats elsewhere. The meal naturally takes time. The service take time. They are not trying to get a Zagat rating. They are more concerned with the care they bring to the food and your palate. The people in the kitchen aren't chefs per se, but grandmas & aunties.) I ordered efo riro with pounded yam & goat. I asked for red stew to be added to the efo riro. I also ordered jollof rice with red stew. Efo riro: It was just ok, but having had this meal a zillion times I noticed it tasted off. The spinach wasn't cooked down enough. The fishy flavor wasn't present. Also, they made the dish with ham. HAM?! No, no, no! I wanted to go to the kitchen and have a word with each chef. That is not how you make it. No ham, not ever. Fish. Just fish and the other ingredients, but not ham! This isn't Southern American cuisine. Stay in your continent! ~sign of the cross~ I don't know who is in the kitchen, but in no West African kitchen is efo riro made with ham. Fufu: Just a tad less moist than I'm used to. But not so much that it hindered yourself from eating. It was decent. I skipped eating it tho. :/ Red stew: It was bland. Like watered down marinara sauce bland. Something was indeed missing. Goat: Was right in between tough & tender. I expected it to be flavorful & fall off the bone tender. Another issue is that the meat was lean. Almost as if like they cut the fat off. Gasp! Never cut the fat. Never, never. That's blasphemy. Fat gives richness & flavor. Who is cooking in the kitchen... Michelle Obama? Please stop and bring back the fat! Jollof: Moist fresh rice, just like I like it but was missing the important seasonings. Also, they forgot to pour the red stew on it like I had asked. If this was my first experience at a West African restaurant, I would have been impressed as the food came out quick, was edible, not too fatty. But, it wasn't. I eat West African a lot. I want the fat. I want the fish. I want all the traditional ingredients and I want the spice. I feel like this was the Americanized version of an awesome ethnic cuisine. I feel like I should have whispered Authentic to the cashier so he knew I was down, I could hang and I wanted the real deal and not what they serve to the other folks who have low standards. If I was to partake ever again, there would definitely need to be a serious conversation pre-order. Don't let my she she foo foo vibe and tiara throw you. I'm ok with waiting (for this kid be if food at this kind of restaurant only) and I want the good stuff. I want the stuff that your own people eat. So who ever is in the kitchen, please for my sake, put your foot in it, make it with love, make it like its supposed to be made and stop playing with my palate. My feelings are officially hurt. *end scene* Ericka takes a bow.

As a Nigerian I know it's tough to review any Nigerian restaurant. Our food is varied as you travel around the country. The exact same rice is varied in spice, color, condiments and moisture depending on the recipe in that part of the country. Therefore one will be critical about the food depending on what they know or expect. This is why a Jamaican will be particularly critical of the food at this restaurant. If you go in expecting to taste jerk chicken or curry flavored food you will be disappointed. This is a Nigerian restaurant with Yoruba cooking recipes to be specific. Having lived in many parts of Nigeria growing up: North, south, east and the west, I can objectively tell you this is a good restaurant. They disappear in the back to customize your meal. I can tell by the freshness of the jollof rice (al dente). The fish was flavorful: both fried and fresh options on the menu. My friend who had the egusi soup and is authentic Ibadan bred said it could be better! (not surprised) The meat pie and fish rolls are generous in content; nicely baked and not fried like many of the spanish empanadas. No doubt they could use some fresh vegetables on the menu but if you know Nigerian cooking you know that half this stuff is over cooked to reach a desired flavor as opposed to cooking for high nutritional value. Not to say there aren't Nigerians who cook to maintain the nutritional value of the vegetables but most Nigerian homes cook meat and then fry it. Cook spinach in a soup with a variety of meat that require varied lengths of time to cook properly so the spinach will taste good but be very low on the nutritional value table. Ambiance- not their strength. Take it to go when you can. Their stew is good and our waitress KayGee was nice and patient. In all 3 out of 5 stars because I don't expect them to be all things. Simply help me connect to the food I grew up on once in a while. Loads of catering trays going out the door tells me there are many more folks out there who simply want the same as I.

I'm first to review; this is a transfer/same from Kings Way; Dining was Oct, 2012 Since I have not find any reviews online, I was not quite feeling good about it not having found previous reviews. So to be cautious, I asked about their business and here's the tale: just opened last month. We were cruising in Baltimore Ave and with my sharp eyes and sharp senses, the Caribbean smell of exotic flavors directed me to the other side of the road, and excitedly made a u-turn safely at the light. An employee from the same company I worked for, also was there to pick up his order. I was glad to see a familiar face in unfamiliar space. I asked him if their food specifically Nigerian were good. He said it's good and recommending dishes that we are new to us or assuming the oxtail is just like the Jamaican caribbean. We decided to take the food to go since the space is a bit gloomy, dark or lacking inviting dining experience. So we spent waiting for 20 minutes and at that time we were impressed that they were not leftover of the day, however, I realized that we were just starting to cook between 12-1pm and not ready for customers yet. We went home and at the first taste, it was salty and worse, burning spicy (so not Jamaican flavor). To make it even more awful, the meat was hard and smelly. Where did they get the meat? I felt like I was eating like a barbarian in the medieval times. All the food was unpalatable. My tale ended when the food worth $22 something went to the garbage. I know this for sure that their food will never get to the kings banquet, and if they do and if it was King Henry VIII, their heads will be headed for serving food like this. And like the marriages/wives of the King, I'm predicting that KW's business will not last. Before you get this way, the honeymoon will be over soon. I hope that you learn for this tale and that you don't reach the Kings Way. Or if you do, like Hansel and Gretel lost in the track, you'll find yourself in the house of witches. If you are smart, you stay away and save the trip and money. But if you try to be brave and unbeliever, they are waiting for you but only to find for yourself that it was a wrong turn. Be glad now that I did do the first review and you have been warned. I know that reviews are matter of opinions and subjective, but I know my tale is not fictional. How ever brief this is, this is history for me.

Today I had curry chicken with rice and plantains $12.99 so delicious! I also had a foil of Moi moi- loved it! I'm literally sitting here rubbing my belly. I'm impressed because the food was better than last time

Wasn't impressed by this place. Got some jollof rice (which was cold and tasted like it was cooked in the morning and warmed in the microwave), dodo which tasted alright, very bony goat meat, and yam pouridge that just not up to par ...won't be going back here

I stopped by this place recently. That was a mistake. I ordered curried chicken. Not sure what I got but it was not curried chicken. It was chicken, but the flavor was anything but. Can't believe this establishment thinks it's serving authentic Caribbean dishes. And the rice tasted like I was eating pure paprika and turmeric. Not very good at all.
