It's hard to find a truly good Caribbean restaurant. I'm not talking "Caribbean-inspired." (BTW, tossing in some mangos into a dish does NOT make it Caribbean.) I'm talking good, authentic Caribbean food that is actually made in the West Indies and cures a belly's desire for old favorites and a mind's longing for nostalgia. That's what Jerk Hill Cafe is to me. Everything on the menu -curried goat, manish water, ox tail- is authentic to the West Indian cooking of my parents and definitely strikes a cord with my stomach. The chicken in the brown stew and the curry is always tender, and so is the goat. The cabbage is great and the plantain is grilled just like I remember it at home. Even more exciting about this restaurant is that it serves dishes rarely found at other Caribbean restaurants. Dishes such as ackee and salt fish. Every time I ask about this dish at other places, the response is "oh, the ackee is too expensive to have it shipped" Hey, Jerk Hill does! And, I love them for it. Another rare treat, escoveiched fish. The vegetables are perfectly prepared to vinegary goodness, and the fish is prepared the way most West Indians like it - whole, from the head to the tail. My favorite rarity: provisions! I hesitated to ask for it cause it's not on the menu. But sure enough, moments later I had a heaping plate of broiled dumplings, green bananas and plantain. I'm in heaven just writing about it! But it doesn't stop there. This place even has authentic pastries: coco bread, cassava pone, bakes, coconut drops and so much more. The secret is the owners who are Jamaican and cook all the food themselves. I encourage West Indians, Caribbean food lovers and the plain curious to flock to place and dig in.

Pretty good. Jerk chicken was moist and flavorful. Rice and peas were meh. Curry looked good but didn't get to try it. Will be returning to give it a whirl in the near future.

So me and some co-workers just oredered some jerked chicken with rice and some curried chicken. The first thing i noticed when i dug in was that the chicken was a little dry but it did happen to be falling off the bone which is always nice. The flavors are definatly good, it was my first jerked chicken experiance so i have nothing to go by but it was definatly tasty (the dryness of the chicken was not a problem cause it was not leather i can hadle tasty food as long as it is edible) which is the reason for the 3 stars and not 4. Oh and i almost forgot for 4 entrees it was 40 dollars so 10 bucks for each dinner.

Finally! I'm so happy I found this place thanks to fellow Yelpers. It's close to home for me, so that makes it even better. I've been searching for a while for good Caribbean food near where I live. I've finally found it! The food is so well seasoned. The flavors are subtle yet so delicious. My first time there (today) I ordered the oxtail meal, which came with rice and peas, steamed vegetables, and fried plantains. Everything was delicious and I wish I'd ordered the large instead of the small. The small was a good-sized portion. It's just that it was so delicious, I wanted more when I was done. Jerk Hill is going to be my go-to local place for good, home-cooked Caribbean food...the tasty kind I'm used to eating at home. :-) And by the way, the owner, an older gentleman, and the server were very friendly and service was prompt.

When I first started eating my food (My first time going to Jerk Hill Cafe) I was impressed with the large Brown Stew Chicken with came with rice and peas, cabbage and two plantains and also ordered a side of plantains after the women (I guess she's the owner) told me they were sweet. everything was very tasty although the food was Luke warm and I only live about 8 mins away I had to reheat in microwave oven for two minutes. But now let me tell you why I only gave One star.......Its because a large white stone was in my food and almost broke my D--N tooth. That s that first time that has ever happened to me and Although the food was tasty and the women was very friendly I can't ever go back. I guess the stone was in the rice when they cooked it....I have no idea but I'm glad my tooth didn't break. SMH

Quite the interesting place, pretty good beef patties (not very spicy), the jerk chicken was also pretty good although not the same as I have had in every other Jamaican places. The brown stew chicken was quite good. They give you a ton of food but at $13 for each entree that adds up quick. No frills here, a true hole in the wall in an odd location. Overall its pretty decent but I still prefer Peaches as my go to spot.

I decided to try Jerk Hill Cafe based on the recommendation of my Jamaican born-and-raised boyfriend who swore it was probably the most authentic experience you'd get in the area. After giving the menu a quick once over, I decided to go for the oxtails which includes rices and peas and seasoned cabbage. I was thoroughly excited to try this meal (it smelled delicious) but it was just okay. While the cabbage was tender, and the rice and peas and gravy were very flavorful (and the best part of the meal in my opinion), the oxtails were small, a little tough, and not seasoned that well. However, the prices were very reasonable, with a small entree and sides costing under $11. I won't give up on this place just yet but perhaps will try a different entree the second time around. Hopefully, I'll be blown away by the cuisine on my second visit.

I ordered the jerk chicken and the oxtails. The food was not good. The spices weren't intense and the rice was bland. I was really disappointed by my experience. I was also standing at the counter for a long time. I always see cars parked outside when I drive past so this could have just been a bad day for them. I went on a Sunday and it just seemed like the food wasn't fresh or flavorful.

Ever tried something and didn't realize you'd been craving it? When I near Hyattsville for work today, I decided to see what was available in the area for lunch, and Yelp pointed me towards Jerk Hill. I was a little nervous when the place was empty, but I found out after sitting there for a few minutes that most people were getting carry out orders instead. I decided to try a beef patty and an order of the chicken roti, and I was immediately hooked! The roti had the perfect combination of moist, flavorful chicken, awesome curry, and great spice without being stupidly overwhelming, even when I added the pepper sauce. Within minutes, I had devoured it and started to wonder about coming back for dinner to try the goat. The beef patty was a nice snack later in the day, with a good earthy flavor to the spices and a great crust. I also grabbed a slice of their rum cake to go, and that was GOOD. Almost pudding-like in the thickness, the rum flavor was a nice undertone with a strong molasses note in the moist, dark goodness. If I'm in Hyattsville again for lunch, this is absolutely on my radar for return visits.

Excellent chicken patty with amazing flavor and spices. I wasn't that hungry so I just wanted a bite of my bfs chicken patty, but then I ended up stuffing my face with it. He also ordered the cow feet (small size entree) for a little less than $10. I took a bite of the cow feet, and it was surprisingly tender....and according to him, the cow feet was "gooey + delicious and so very succulent." My bf loves eating different animals' feet and other body parts, and he gave the cow feet itself 5 stars! However, since the small entree was a little pricey, we had to give it an overall rating of 4 stars Other than that, we're fans!

This restaurant has amazing Jerk Pork. I also tried their jerk chicken, curry goat, oxtail and potato pudding and all were on point. The location is about 2 miles from 495 so it's very convenient to take a detour and food there. This is not a dine-in restaurant because it seems to have very few seats.
