Sorry, Ron's...we must have came at the wrong time. The service was very slow and the music was ear- splitting. We just wanted to have some good beer and eat dinner. We had the Crab Soup which was actually delicious. But we couldn't hold a conversation so we left.

I was there a few months ago and was disappointed in the food. Beer selection is good there's nice entertainment just wish for a little bit better in the department of the cuisine. The staff is friendly and helpful. I was there a year ago and had lunch and the sandwiches are ok.

My companion said this place came highly recommended and had 30 craft brew taps so we decided to give it a shot. Upscale it's not. The dining room reminded me of a banquet hall - stackable chairs and plain tables but we went into the bar and found a local haven. We sat at the bar and had a great chat with the day bartender (Gerald) who was hanging out after work. He gave us some terrific local beer recommendations and we had a very nice time. Ordered the crab cake sandwich and it was the best of the trip! The only downside to a very pleasant evening is that Friday night is Karaoke night. Yikes! Lets just say the participants were enthusiastic rather than talented. If you want a nice local experience in Hagerstown, visit Always Ron's (but not on Friday night) and eat in the bar.

Can't remember what we ate, so it couldn't have been great but the beer selection is phenomenal! Actually, what made our experience over the top was the bartender, Adam. It makes a huge difference when someone in that position is well versed and knowledgable of the products they serve. He made exellent recommendations and conversation. Pro's: beer selection and knowledgable bartenders. Con's: we sat outside on the patio because karaoke was so loud inside. After 10 minutes of no service whatsoever, we went to the bar, which turned out to be a great choice.

5 stars for the beer selection & awesome bartender (Sean), but 3 stars for the food. Great late-night hangout.

Disregard any reviews more than a few weeks old!!! We had not been here under the old management, but the new management is not doing well with this place. We now know why there were very few people there for Friday night dinner. I kind of want to give it two stars because the appetizers (when we finally got them because we asked another waitress to check on them) were good even though they were cold... fried ravioli and Jamaican bacon wrapped shrimp. If you were after a beer and apps, this might be an OK place, but we were there for dinner. The menu had several things crossed off... including the fried chicken other reviewers said was amazing. The hand breaded fried oysters was still on the menu, but not available, and got crossed off while we were there. Really long waits to order and get food. We watched our waiter drop a soda off a tray onto the floor next to a baby (who got sprayed) and keep on going and didn't come back to check... just a comedy of errors from start to finish. Not going back!!!

Classic "diner food". Nothing upscale but the bar is nice. Servers have always been nice. Establishment is kinda depressing inside.

The first thing I want to say about Always Ron's is that they have an IMPRESSIVE selection of beer on tap. This place is definitely worth going to for that alone! The second thing that impressed me about Always Ron's is that the service is very very friendly. The food, however, while not bad, is unfortunately squarely on the line of mediocrity. I will say that given that this is a restaurant in Hagerstown, Maryland, I can be more forgiving as opposed to one in an area with more culinary diversity or upscale restaurants. That said there are a few things that are unforgivable in any restaurant, not seasoning a steak for example... I ordered the ribs special, and my sister ordered the rib-eye steak. My ribs were tender and fell off the bone - though obviously boiled and not smoked. The flavor on the meat was decent, and the sauce on top was not too cloying or sweet. Similarly, the sauce on my baked beans was good, not overly sweet and the beans had a good texture. My mac and cheese on the other hand, was flavorless. It may as well have come out of a box. (Maybe some bacon would have helped - at least then it would have had some salt.) The steak my sister ordered was cooked properly, the texture was fine, BUT it was bland! (I even tasted it too.) Is it too much to ask for the cook to put some salt and pepper on the meat? Also, her baked potato had DRIED chives on it. DRIED CHIVES? REALLY? That was just plain gross. She sent the steak and potato back after only two bites, and the server was gracious enough to remove it from the check. She did get charged for the other side (potato salad), which she said had too much mayonnaise but was otherwise tolerable. I will be back, though, even if it's only for the beer. Let's face it, there isn't much else in Hagerstown, and as long as my sister lives there I'll be in that area on occasion.

The four stars are for the fried chicken......The service should be three stars...The chicken is cooked to order....seriously...Its well worth the wait. The fried oysters are also four star. Sit at the bar if you dont an issue with it, better service.

Where do I begin? The hostess was great, server was not so great. She would just disappear for 20 minutes at a time. I ordered the chicken parmesan which I don't know how you can screw up but they did. The marinara sauce was SOOO sweet they must have put 2 cups of sugar in it and the toast that came with it didn't have any garlic or butter on it or brought to the table for my own use. Totally disappointed so I won't be going back.

I came here and had the salmon entree for dinner. The salmon was well overcooked. I am usually quite tolerant of service and food presentation, but when it's bad I struggle with "sending it back" or just leaving, with a modest tip of course, because with food prep it's not the waitperson's fault. This time I chose to continue and post my comments on YELP. Dinner for two (w/o alcohol) was $40. I would rather go to a place like Bonefish Grill, even if it is a chain, and get much better ambiance, food preparation, and service. For me, this is not worth going out of the way for....

Excellent beer selection. 30 taps of micros. Not sure how the food is, but it's worth the trip for the beer alone.

i only come to always ron's for one thing....the reuben. it's the best i have ever had. tender corned beef and kraut with their house made 999 dressing. delish! really like the fries also. i measure all other reubens to this one. it's the best. i am sure i could find one in nyc that would be better, but this is the best i have had in the area. sometimes service is bad, but i put up with it for that sandwich. i was devastated when the original ron's closed because it cut off my reuben intake. was so happy when always ron's reopened. hooray!

Was just here last week and really enjoyed it. The food was excellent and we even ended up taking home 4 different pieces of pie! (which were all ultra relish) Mike Guessford does a stand-up job running this place! It is a must!

After reading the reviews for Always Ron's, I had to give it a try. Down-to-earth restaurant/bar with very friendly staff. My friend needed to charge his phone and the bartender helped him find an outlet. The bacon cheeseburger was so good, very juicy and the bun was homemade, not a typical burger bun. I've tried a lot of burgers all around and this was one of my favorites. My husband ordered the open faced turkey sandwich, and it was real turkey, not just sliced deli meat. He was thrilled about that. All in all, good service with tasty food!

We were in the area for GeoWoodstock XIII and Always Ron's popped up at the top of our Yelp search when tracking down good local food and craft beer. We were a bit skeptical when we first walked in, as the main room was very open and sparse and it appeared to be more of a family style restaurant than the craft beer haven we'd heard about. But through another passage, we found the bar and snagged the last two available seats. We were immediately greeted by a gentleman at the end of the bar, who happened to be the day bartender (Gerald). He was off the clock, but more than happy to chat about their beer selection while the on duty bartender (Brenda) was busy getting our menus and water. A couple of other locals came by and we all had a great conversation about craft beer and local sports. We sampled a couple of local brews suggested by Gerald #drinklocal, and we both had the crab cake sandwiches. Everything was fantastic... the food, the drink, the conversation... until about an hour after we arrived, then.... karaoke. It totally blew the mood. The performances were in the adjoining room, but they couldn't be ignored. We tried, we really did, but we just couldn't handle the distraction and left after about three songs. If they could have closed off the bar from the noise, we would have stayed and this review would have earned a 5th star. Regardless of this, we still spread the word among our friends visiting the area for the same event, and we know at least a few of them stopped by and had great things to say. Thanks for the hospitality!

We were there for dinner and it felt like a lifetime. They are under new management but it seemed totally disorganized. server was new so we figured we would cut him some slack however it was bad. We waited for a long time for our starters. The ravioli was fried nicely however because it took so long, it was cold. Then we had to wait another 10-15 minutes for our food order to be taken only to be told what I wanted was no longer available. I settled for a side salad and that was that. This place may be ok for a beer and a starter but not for a meal.

I wanted to write a follow up on Always Ron's. If you are looking for a nice family style place to eat or a place to hang out for a few beers, this is the place. We ate in the bar tonight and glad we did. They had a great group there, so the Bar was quiter! I started out with one of the varieties of beer. They have a new sample of beer often on Tap. I love trying something different there to drink! I had the Fried Chicken again, I love Hot, freshly made Fried Chicken, that has a crunch when you take a bite! Plus is very flavorful. I have said it before, if you want the best Fried Chicken in Big pieces- this is the place to go. Cost is wonderful too!! My Husband had the Fried Fish and French Fries. Slightly disappointed though. Mainly because it was French Fries with Fish tonight. I do not think we ever saw so many French Fries in one basket at a time! Do not get me wrong, these were great fries, crunchy and flavorful! Plus the slaw was sweet and crunchy. maybe we like it that way but Nice. Only disappointment was in the fish. One piece and not very big either. I am hoping just an oversight though cause the rest of the meal was great, with awesome beer!

Great restaurant! Friendly and fast service, good food, and open on Sunday. Fries are authentic. Reuben and French dip are awesome. Halibut hit the spot and the mashed potatoes are the bomb. We recommend for a quick homestyle meal.

First of all the only thing that raised this from a three star is their beer selection. You would definitely not think this place has the awesome brews it does. Husband and I sat outside on a gorgeous day for lunch. No one else out there enjoying the sunshine so it was quiet and peaceful. However I will say I like background music when I go out, which halfway through our visit the music stopped playing and never came back on, odd. I got the crabcake sandwich with fries and my husband had the carb overload as I called it, spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic toast, and macaroni and cheese on the side. Let me start with my dish. The crab cake was good, it was full of meat, plump, moist. However the flavor was lacking, it needed more Old Bay in it. Also the tartar sauce was made with a sweet relish which I was not a fan of. I would've preferred either a dill tartar sauce, an Old Bay aioli, or even cocktail sauce. Other than that I was pleased with my food. I didn't try much of my husbands food, he liked it for the most part though. What I did try however, was the macaroni and cheese. While you can tell this is homemade it lacked any flavor. It seemed more like macaroni baked in butter. The cheese flavor was really lacking and was not gooey whatsoever. Perhaps I'm picky since I prefer my macaroni and cheese non baked and just prepared in the pot. But the service it was stellar. Our server was attentive, funny, and down to earth. We would return again.

The beer: Fantastic. Shawn at the bar is extremely knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to beer. Awesome craft beer selection and always a wide variety of options. The food: Okay. It has certainly improved recently, with some awesome sandwiches made with local bread. However, there isn't much in the way of "healthy" options. A lot of heavy foods. If you like french fries, they are delicious here! The service: Fair. There are a few employees to always seem to go above and beyond. However, there are also a few who have been known to leave you alone at the table for 20 minutes on several occasions. Overall, one of the better places in Hagerstown to enjoy a good beer and decent food.

We had a sizeable group of ten so they gave us our own room, which was nice. I ordered a Crispin Hard Cider which is AMAZING and comes in its own glass. If it is still on their (extensive and impressive) beer list when you go there, you MUST order it. Very refreshing, and nicely priced. I ordered the Reuben which is one of their signature dishes. It was very meaty and thick, and definitely worthy of the name unlike some sadsack ones I have eaten at other places. I had no room for dessert, but did sample some red velvet cake a friend ordered. It was good, just a bit drier and with a different icing than I have had before. All in all, a pretty decent place. If you have a larger group, be warned though: service is a tad slow, and they will add gratuity on your bill. They also make it look like they are charging you twice for it, but they're not. They have to print it strangely for tax purposes according to our waitress.

My last visit, if they had any idea how to present food, I might be going back. When I'm given French fries with skins on they are telling me they're cheap, and the service proved that. Who puts these reviews up here, probably the worst value for money restaurant I've been to in this town.

My husband and I stumbled upon this little gem in Htown some time ago. Now we are frequent visitors, and we always request the waitress Laura. The place is nothing fancy, but it is cozy. Fried Chicken, Reubens, and the French Dip are some of our favorite dishes. The homemade cakes and other desserts are unbelievable. Especially the Chocolate cake with Peanut Butter Frosting!!!

Being a child of the Hagerstown region, I grew up going to this place now and then and didn't realize until adulthood how solid a restaurant is really is. The fried chicken is fantastic and cooked to perfection. They have the recipe and execution mastered, and it's been exceptional every time. Kudos. The Reuben is quite good as well. They're generous with the corned beef serving. The last sandwich i had could have used a little more dressing. But as a patron I don't tend to complain unless it's a deal-breaker and it wasn't. My girlfriend started with a bowl of the crab soup. We asked if the soup was made in-house, to which our competent server replied, "Yes" (or something like that). The soup was okay. Quite frankly it tasted like Campbell's vegetable soup with some canned crab meat added. I don't recommend it unless you have a cold and require soup, and didn't have time to run out to a supermarket. Ron's also has an impressive dessert menu. Nothing fancy, just some classic cake and pie options. (Note: We asked, and it was confirmed that some of the pies such as peach were not home-cooked... just FYI.) I ordered a slice of the Red Velvet layer cake. I prefer my cake very cold with the icing not on the fluffy side, a personal taste I don't expect every place to cater to automatically. The cake was alright. It didn't thrill me. My girlfriend ordered the Neopolitan Cheesecake, which was actually quite good. The beer selection is good and I can tell it draws a solid after-hours bar crowd. However, in my last visit I ordered a beer I had not tried before and did not like it and switched to another. Between my girlfriend and I, we only took three sips of the beer before we asked for another. Perhaps I made the mistake of saying "I'm pay for it, but I don't like it, I won't drink it." I switched to another beer more up my alley and it was flat. After two sips, there was no head on the beer and it looked like cold apple juice. Yes, they have a great beer selection. Other patrons like myself who appreciate a good draft beer ought to ask when the keg was last changed. Or ask for a small tasting to get a sense of the state of the beer. Just a thought. Overall, I rate this restaurant highly for it's non-chain quality, the outstanding fried chicken, and the draft beer selection (despite my dissatisfaction in my last visit). My girlfriend and I will definitely be back every time we're in Hagerstown for the fried chicken, and hopefully some better beer next time.

we've lived here for close to 10 years and our first visit was last week -- wish it had been much sooner! the crab dip was fabulous, great selection of meat-free salads and other vegetarian dishes, and my kids LOVED the fish & chips and crab cakes. will definitely return!

Great atmosphere. Great food. Worst credit card security set up anywhere. If you want to avoid being skimmed, you cannot follow the wait staff. Their credit card machines are hidden from customers' view and there's no room for a customer. Better take cash.
