No, they do not sell the Roy Rogers cocktails here that Roger from American Dad is obsessed with (yeah, I'm an American Dad dork). There goes one star right off the bat. The real Roy Rogers - the cowboy singer and actor - did not found the restaurant, but is the namesake. I've been to a few locations before, and they were all on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Even back in 1998, when I was just a young child, I remember that they were the first fast food chain to have a soda machine on the customer's side of the counter and a "Fixin's Bar" for you to put veggies and a variety of sauces onto your slobs of greased-up meat. Okay, too much history. This is fast food, so my standards are a bit lower than it would otherwise be. In terms of cleanliness, Wendy's took the cake until McDonald's started stepping its game up to improve its image. This Roy Rogers was dirty, yet not too filthy for me to walk around in. In the grand scheme of things, it's on par with your average BK but better than Taco Bell. I'm pretty sure my toilet seat is cleaner than Taco Bell. The taste of the food seemed above average. The burger was fairly small, but the burgers tasted better than at other restaurants. It was all incredibly greasy, though. What fast food restaurant do you think of when you think of fresh veggies? Probably Subway (God, I hate Subway). The Fixin's Bar here surpasses Subway in terms of freshness by a landslide, which was a surprise. The fries were good, but be aware that a combo meal only gives you a surprisingly low amount of fries. I guess they're trying to be healthy. In the grand scheme of things, Roy Rogers is your average fast food restaurant, doing some things to stand out but perhaps not enough to merit more visits from me.

I'd never even heard of a Roy Rogers until now!! It's like KFC meets Del Taco but it came out sloppy and not appetizing.

Stopped in for Lunch. Food was fine. But Service and staff were exceptional and friendly so I decided to submit a review. Better than the other burger chains, and a different selection.

Roy Rogers used to be a very prominent fast food chain in the DC Metro area. I remember going there as a very young kid and singing cowboy songs while I ate fried chicken. I also remember getting Roy's sandwiches and dressing them up to the maximum at their "Fixin's Bar" in high school and college too. It's these fond memories that bring me to try Roy's today. I think the food is great...maybe not quite as good as I remember but compared to some of the other fast food alternatives, it's up there in my opinion. Everything just tastes more "real" than the arches or crown. I recommend the chicken (if it's fresh), the burgers, and chicken sandwiches. The service here is so-so. Like I said make sure things are made fresh or else, the food won't be right. I just wish there were more Roys in my home base area now.

Jenny: May I take your order. Me: Sourdough, ham, egg and cheese. My order comes out 5 minute later. I did a once over and it came with biscuit instead of sourdough. I went back to Jenny to get it right. Me: I ordered Sourdough, ham, egg and cheese. Jenny: I rung you up for scrambled egg platter. Me: I wanted sourdough ..... Jenny: can I just give sourdough bread? Me: oh, Jenny Jenny Jenny

They don't listen. Gave me the wrong food. When I finally got the right food it was no good. Will not return.

Having never seen nor heard of as Roy Rogers I thought it was more Denny's initially but it turned out to be more like a tacky Arby's. The cashier was rather curt, but whatever I wasn't there to be wined and dined anyway. The problem here is that there was a hair in my mom's breakfast platter. I threw salt all over the eggs, and brought it back. I waited at the counter for a new one. The person who brought it to the back approached the lady in charge of assembling it, who was conveniently 3/4 hidden by a divider. Moments later I received a "new" hair-free platter. BUT ALAS, it was NOT. It was the same f-ing platter with no hair and a new biscuit! How did I know? All the salt I threw on the eggs was still there. I told the employee it was the same platter, who insisted that it was a new one. I told her the salt I put all over the eggs was still there. Too annoyed to argue, I just ordered my mom something else and stood there watching while they made it. Never again, Roy Rogers!

Very good food - the chicken and the roast beef sandwiches are great. The fixin's bar is a nice touch. I grew up with Roy's in the DC area and it is SO NICE to have them coming back. I actually drive all the way up from Bethesda to Gaithersburg at least a few times a month to eat there. If you look at the calorie content for the roast beef, baked potato, etc you will be amazed the food is very low in calories compared to other fast food chains.

If you've never eaten at a Roy Roger's, well, you're in for a treat. DO NOT confuse this with an Arby's; here, the roast beef is real slices, not flaked and formed something-or-other. Remember, when you're eating here, focus on what they do so well; Roast beef. FOCUS!!! When ordering, try to get a small side cup of Au jus. It makes the sandwich so much better. DON'T add salt- the sandwich has enough. Size- seems to have shrunk a little in this economy. I could be wrong. Every Roy's has a Fixin's bar- it's a wonderful, fresh looking, cold bar that has really high quality 'fixin's' for your burger or roast beef sandwich. This is one of the other things that makes Roy's special. Notice how clean the place is, too.

I've been to a better Roy Rogers. The staff was pleasant. The fixins bar was wonderful. But when I saw the lady reveal to me that the chicken patty was some frozen nasty patty pulled from some white warehouse box, then put the glorious honey sauce on it. Welp. It hurt my feelings. I like the place. I still like the sandwich. Maybe I'm like a 14 year old kid realizing that I'm "too cool" for the ninja turtles. Man, I hope the love for this sandwich comes back......

This is the Roy Rogers at Montgomery Village Crossing. I ate here while waiting for a friend so that we could watch the Skins game. Again, I find myself following the old folks. Apparently, I like to eat at the same places as old people. Go figure. Everyone appeared to be getting the roast beef sandwich. They were slicing up the beef in front of everyone and applying the au jus in plain view. I would be stupid not to get one. It was tasty and fresh tasting. The fixin bar is what puts Roy Rogers over the top. What makes this Roy's special is the service. The cashier was super friendly and with a lot of senior citizens, they get a lot of complaints and they handle them well. Today, I saw an older woman take back a side of baked beans stating that someone had sneezed in the vicinity of them. The manager replaced them without a second thought. I've seen a lot of senior complaints in my day (unrelated to this Roy Rogers) such as "this hamburger is too meaty" and "this gasoline smells too much like gasoline". I'm sure that this Roy Rogers sees its fair share, but they seemed to handle it well. Kudos to them.

Customer Service is lacking here...... The Fixins Bar was OK - tomatoes looked a bit old. Cashier dropped my fries, never said/asked to replace. Both bathrooms were being cleaned (how convenient, right?)

Back in their heyday in the 80's, Roy Rogers was the place to go in the DC area. Their locations were as plentiful as McDonalds. But since then, many have closed down and now there are only a few in the DC area. I love their roast beef sandwiches and fried chicken. I love as I wait for my order I get see the crew behind the counter slice the roast beef on the slicer, put the slices on the bun, and then spoon the juices on the slices. And I love their fixins bar in which you can put as much lettuce, tomatoes, & pickles as you want on your sandwich. Love their horseradish sauce as well. The french fries are like Wendys, thick and crispy but not as good as McDonalds.

I FRIGGIN LOVE ROY ROGERS! I never review fast food restaurants but after my last impulse visit to RR (I had that craving again) I just had to do this. Everybody talks about the roast beef sandwich and for good reason. It is au jus goodness and the beef is sliced right there. But the Gold Rush chicken sandwich defies words or explanation. That sweet, sweet sauce, soft buttery bun and that crisp slice of bacon. The spicy chicken sandwich is also just mouth wateringly droolingly good. The fried chicken, as far as I'm concerned, tops Popeye's and KFC for both value and crispy juicy eat-the-bones goodness. The sides are hit or miss. The mashed potatoes are the business and the fries are just average. The baked potato is edible if you ask for extra sour cream (the butters in the Fixins Bar) but they get extra cool points just for serving baked potato. Amazingly, your basic hamburger at RR is kind of bland. It doesn't really stand out. But I suppose that is the point of that Fixins Bar. You get to pimp out your own sandwich with your choice of sauces (including my favorite horseradish) onions, tomatoes, pickles, etc. Roy Rogers is an outstanding fast food chain and I couldn't be happier to see there are still a few locations in the DC area. ME LIKEY ROY ROGERS! ME LIKEY ROY ROGERS!
