Fine dining in Gatiehrsburg, who would have thought.....and to the couple wearing jeans and a tee shirt....it must have been a NASCAR ripped tee and white wash jeans because I wasn't dressed to impress and was treated very well... The food was unbelievable and I would like to dine here every night if my budget allowed it! If you live in the area treat yourself to good home cooking the French way! Try it!, BG

Le Palais was interesting. Classic French dining with a bit of a contemporary feel. It is reservation only, no walk-ins. We went on a Friday night and it there was only one other table seated. Almost too empty for comfort. The hors d'oeuvres were wonderful. The entrees were good. For the entrees a bit over salted and the proteins just a bit overdone. A reasonable wine list. When I expressed interest in a beer, I was told they only had Heineken and that people rarely order beer. I was felt a little judged. The service otherwise was very friendly and very attentive.

We came here for our 10 year anniversary and neither of us found this place to be up to the hype. The food was pretty good but not in line with the price. The escargot appetizer but much too powerful and I am a garlic fanatic. The garlic was completely burned and so bitter. My lamb cassoulet was ok but a bit dry and salty. The yummy wine helped with that. His beef was way overcooked and stringy. I've eaten French food all my life so I do expect more and this place didn't deliver that memorable experience. The desserts were truly excellent. The creme brulee was classic and the passionfruit mousse was tart wand as sooo good. Remember to not just drop in on this place - call or email to make reservations in advance. We were a little pissed to find that formal attire was not required, like it says on their website. People were walking in and being seated wearing jeans and sneakers while we were sitting there in our fancy anniversary outfits. It would have been nice to know that we could have been more comfortable. Solid 2.5 Side note: When you walk through the front door, a large red (shower?) curtain separates you from the dining room - I found this incredibly cheese-y... though maybe I would have liked it more had the food lived up to such a grandiose presentation. Also, if you don't want people without reservations walking in, why not put a sign up on the door or window instead of making a scene in the restaurant?

Nice, corteous, knowleadable and friendly service. Wine selection good, even by the glass. Our party of 4 had French onion soup, escargots, crab appetizers which were good. For entré we had the duck, bouillabaisse, and veal; we were all soon looking for the salt shaker. All a bit under seasoned. A solid 3 stars. Place is so small you can hear everyone's conversation.

This is a nice place with solid French comfort cooking. Came in with a gift certificate and had the fixed price three course menu. Escargots were satisfyingly laden with buttery garlic goodness. Beef special was great with lots of truffle-infused richness. Smart wine list with nice options in all price ranges. This is a truly family-run establishment - welcoming and warm. I'd be more likely to go more often if there were a la carte options. A $20 steak frites would make me a regular.

As stated by a local newspaper this is a diamond in Gaithersburg's rough. I would consider this a fine dining restaurant; note to the reviewer who entered with jeans and a t-shirt *shaking-my-head*. This is a small, quaint establishment. Last time we dined the husband cooked and the wife served. I'm a pesky vegetarian but they always accommodate with a few days notice. If you are looking for a local place for that special occasion this is it. Oh, and did I mention the authentic French cuisine is to die for.

My husband and I LOVE this restaurant. The Hostess and her husband Chef Joseph are so nice and friendly. It is a family owned and operated restaurant that specializes in intimate, authentic, fine french dinning. The menu changes seasonally and the price fix menu is very reasonable. Chef Joseph creates each dish from scratch and the plating is quite artful. My favorite desert is the homemade passion fruit sorbet. Reservations are REQUIRED, but this restaurant is a true gem of the french culinary arts. P.S. they only accept checks or cash.

AMAZING! I still feel lucky for having found out about this gem years ago when a friend told me about it. This French food is mind-blowing. I know, that sounds over the top. Go try it and you'll see. It's this little, tiny place built in what feels like the first floor of a small townhouse. It's in the Kentlands. There are only a handful of tables. It's run by an incredible French chef, and his wife and son who both play host and wait tables. They will recommend incredible wine for you. They will tantalize your taste buds with food that defies explanation. Yes, it's pricy, but for a year to go by without visiting Le Palais just once would be a tragedy. Food and service at its finest. Yes, it's in Gaithersburg but I promise you, this place could knock any Georgetown / K Street restaurant out of the water. Hands down.

Cozy, lovely and wonderful food. Those are the words to describe Le Palais in Gaithersburg Md. Like a little piece of France imported to the heart of the Kentlands. A place to celebrate a special ocassion or just to have a wonderful meal with a spouse or with friends. I have enjoyed both the food and the welcoming atmosphere at Le Palais and will certainly return. Thank you Chef Zaka ! Edna Josell, Gaithersburg Md
