Sound is terrible, computer screen blacks out sometimes, our room is tiny and smelly. Ventilation brings smoke into the room, makes your nose and throat very uncomfortable.

I'd heard mixed reviews about this place but decided to give it a try because the pictures on the website looked cool and it's close to my area. When I walked in w/ my friend on Saturday night at 9pm, the guy asked if we had a reservation, and I said no (never been to a karaoke where you had to make a reservation before!). The place was pretty empty at the time. We got a room after a few minutes and were initially impressed because the rooms were really clean and flat screen TV and monitor for ordering songs. The rate was $68 minimum food/drink order per hour which seemed reasonable. The food was way overpriced but in exchange for the room it was acceptable. The worst part about this place is how you go about choosing your songs. The songs are really poorly categorized and if you put in the initials of the song title, it will bring up any song with those initials, including Chinese songs. I'd have to say that the majority of the songs were Chinese, and it was really hard to find any songs that we wanted. At the end of the night, when the guy brought the check, he told us sorry, the English database was down so that's why the new songs were unavailable. Thanks for letting us know! If we had known at least we wouldn't have spent all night looking. We spent over 4 hours there and about 3 hours in, they started coming in all the time to see when we were leaving, because there were other people that wanted the room. Well...we're paying customers! We kept ordering food/drink and singing to our heart's content, even though the song selection started to diminish after a while. Overall, sound and video quality was great, the whole place was really clean, but the service and the song selection is very poor! We had one great waitress but there were only 2 waitresses working so the food and drink all took forever. There is an open mic at the bar where you can just sing w/o a room but I don't know how the pricing works there. Maybe we'll go back to try that...but maybe not. Heard there's a good place in Vienna, might try that instead.

If you're looking for a fun place to throw a party, hang out, and sing your hearts out... this is the place to go! 7 individual party rooms, huge selection of Chinese and English songs, reasonable price (ask about group/special discounts, etc.), beer/wine/sake and snacks, great customer service...what more can you ask for? It just recently got switched to a new management team and they've done a great job with this place. FYI: you can request new songs to be added if it's not already in the system ;)

After the recent change in ownership (to people I actually know), I started coming here. What a difference the right ownership makes : ). The vibe there is really chill and friendly. There is a huge selection of songs to choose from as well.

This is not the first time that I've been to iRock, as it's one of the few local karaoke places around (and I love me some karaoke!). I usually go there to sing Chinese and English songs, and I believe the song selection is not half bad; they do update it (at least the Chinese ones...). The interior decoration is pretty nice as well, though the rooms are hardly soundproof. That said, my biggest issue with them is service and the price. They don't seem very friendly or at least semi-courteous (especially on the phone when I called to ask about room rates since their website is down). For our group of 8, the room cost $55 per hour. Other than showing us into the room and letting us know that our reservation starts now, we've never received any other type of service, and yet there was a 15% tip added on to the bill at the end. I think that's absolutely ridiculous. I also used a LivingSocial deal that I bought a while back, so I let it slide, but I won't be coming back, nor would I recommend this place. Long story short: not bad song selection, but way too overpriced.

After finding out that the KTV place I used to go to closed, two of my friends and I decided to check this place out (heard about it from a friend). Like Starr C. said, it's kind of hard to find. You make a turn at the Bank of America and it's tucked away in a complex behind the BoA. Although the outside complex is kinda drab, the interior's decorated pretty well. The waitress was helpful and nice. They said that they only had one small room (1-4 people), which surprised me (she might have meant they only had one available, but that's not what it sounded like). The biggest complaint I had about the room is that it was Japanese-styled seating: a raised wooden platform with a sunken floor under the table... aka really uncomfortable. Couches would've been much better. The two butt mats I used as cushions didn't make the wall any more comfortable to lean on. And it's awkward standing up because you have to stand on the raised wood seating... no floor to stand on. The TV's also placed kinda off to the side in the room, but they can't really do anything about how the room was built. You use a touch screen for song selection. The screen was pretty easy to use and responsive to touch, though three things: 1) Didn't figure out how to switch languages on the screen, 2) Not sure if you could switch song orders besides putting things in priority, and 3) Not sure if you could adjust the song pitches. But w/e, their machine's still pretty good. The Chinese selection is great. English is kinda hit or miss. The Japanese and Korean selections were fairly sizable, but they seemed like really old songs. Not much pop for those. Our machine did freeze once and clear our song selection list. Also, when we went outside for help or to order things, it was difficult finding staff to talk to. A woman and I started talking, each thinking the other person worked there. Finally, this place is kinda pricey. Our room was $35 and hour, and drinks seemed to be at least double their market price. Our final bill for 3 ppl ~4 hours was about $200. Anyways, I'll probably still go back though!

The place is a huge disppointment! All the KTV rooms smell like FEET. The bartender has a poker face and will ignore anything you told him. They have a big collection of Chinese songs. But you got to be careful because the MIC also smells terrible! . I paid 35 dollars an hour just to get sick after returning home. If you need some virus to skip your class or meeting, that's the right place to go!

New and stylish traditional Asian style Karaoke bar in Gaithersburg. This place can be tough to find if you are depending on your GPS. Look for the Bank of America, and take the small road behind it. Overall the service is friendly, prices are good, and bubble tea tasty, but the song selection isn't up to par yet. The owner? manager? Not sure who I talked to, but he told me they are working on improving the English selection. However, great variety of Chinese songs, both mandarin and cantonese popular songs and oldies with real music videos for most of the songs. I recommend it and will definitely up the stars once they improve the song selection.

This is one of the worst private room karaoke I've been to. * The rooms are nowhere close to sound proof. The music from the free karaoke at the bar was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves. * The song selection was awful. We'd enter songs that the system claim to have, only for it to skip over it once we get to that song. * No AC. There are much better options out there. If you just want to hang out at the bar and sing for free, probably OK. But definitely not worth it for the private rooms.

Without a doubt the best place for Chinese Karaoke between here and NY. It's a real Asian KTV salon with the box rooms. It's nice and clean, and the database of songs is absolutely huge. This place got underrated because it doesn't have a big selection of English songs. If you want that you should go to an American style karaoke instead. iRock can't be everything to everyone. Didn't you see the huge neon signs in Chinese out front? Take the HINT!! Each room has a separate console with its own video screen used for picking songs using touch-screen. This is nice because picking songs doesn't interfere with the current video being played. You can pick by artist name, song title using pinyin, or country. The great majority of songs are Mandarin, Cantonese or Taiwanese, with some Korean, Japanese and English. They are constantly getting updates of all the latest songs. There's no songbook or printed list of songs, because so many new songs get added. You sometimes have to flip through as many as 25 screens to find your artist, and you need to be able to read Chinese to pick most of the songs. The owner and staff are very nice. My only complaint is that sometimes people smoke in there, which is inconsiderate and illegal, and the staff do not seem to stop them. The bar has a nice selection of drinks like red wine, plum wine, various beers, smoothies, bubble tea. Prices are about $8. There are also hot appetizers, and the staff will deliver items to the rooms. If you want hard liquor there's a bar next door whose business went WAY up after iRock opened its doors. Room rates hourly, depending on the size of the room. They are not cheap, but par for the area. The best deal is to get a group. Or if you'll spend a minimum of $15 at the bar, you can sing and hang out all you want in the bar area in the main room, which is perhaps the best deal of all. It can be damn hard to find the first time. You can't see the place from Shady Grove Road. The easiest thing to do is locate the Bank of America on the corner. Follow the road that looks like a driveway behind it all the way around to the small office park in back.

Ok, first time I went, I got a private room and yes the songs were limited. The price menu was a little different for hourly rate or unlimited (by ordering food). When we were about to leave, I noticed in the back area that there was a live karaoke that you could sing with strangers - haha. So I made a point to head back there again just for that and this was last Sunday. I sung for 4 hrs and only ordered 2 bubble tea which came to be about $7.50 each. That is one expensive bubble tea but it was also one CHEAP karaoke time. I couldve paid more than $60 for 4 hrs had I gone to Cafe Muse. This is a plus in my book. A bigger plus is when my friend told me that most of the english songs are hidden since they aren't categorized correctly by the artist names or no one knows how to. In order to search for the names, you just go to the spell option and just type in the first letter of each word - for example "A Whole New World", you would type in "AWNW" and the song came up! I was sooooo happy afterwards bc I was able to find songs that I could not search by going under artists. I'll admit that there are still few artists that I couldn't find but this is a good start. =) I'm going there again Thursday and I think I will be going there every free weekend I have - haha.. HAPPY SINGING EVERYONE! =) Edit: 11.10.09 was there last thursday and actually chatted with the person who downloads the karaoke songs into the systems. he asked for me and my friend's help in finding what songs need to be updated and added etc. i got busy for the rest of the night handing him 3 sheets of music that needed to be categorized and added in and expected him to have them b/4 I come back next time! haha. So don't fear, the english songs will be beefed up before u know it! =) Edit: 9.24.10 It's been awhile since I've updated this review but since the last time, Eddie from iRock has really beefed up the English song selection. I guess he took my 3 sheests of paper to heart. =P Of course, I didn't leave the place without giving him another 2 sheets of new songs to download from two weeks ago so more will be added soon! =)

I was about to give it 5 stars but the mouse over said "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" .. I don't know about all that so i'll settle for "Yay! I'm a fan" I like the place. Its definitely very stylish with a the traditional Asian facade (as someone else mentioned). The rooms are cool, funky, and spacious too. The song selections are 90% Asian, but that's understandable. The English section has about 200 artists and is petty updated with POP and R&B songs of 2010 and a huge Michael Jackson section which I appreciate. :) Some of the songs are very random, leaving you thinking, "really though, Karaoke??" (*cough*cough*WakkaFlacka*couch*) And some of the videos that go with the songs are 148% random. One of the Backstreet songs we did had a random chair floating on the beach and then a Hawaiian chef... idk my bff Jill?? lol But i had a group of 10 friends come out and it was really fun. We were wildin' out in the room and just having a great time. Food & drink selections - thumbs down. Their food tastes like they got it from Costo or Sam's Club and fried in the a grease bucket. And its way to expensive. They dont have Vodka, just pina coldas, starwberry daquari's and beer. And a few bottles of wine. Please, just focus on karaoke. It's just the most random combination of singing and leisure put together lol But those are the best events sometimes. See i still gave it a 4.

I agree 100% with the first reviewer: great service, friendly people, fancy lookin place once you can find it, and food ain't too shabby either. HOWEVER, i am going to be way less forgiving about the English song selection. We are talking something like 100 songs in total, right now, with about half of them video only--i.e. no words, no karaoke-ness to speak of. What IS there are obscure songs from obscure artists way back when... You try spending about 4 hours there, and search desperately for things to sing, and EXHAUST all the choices after the first 20 minutes. Also, what's up with the weird seating in the VIP rooms?! Anyways, I am putting this place on my no-go list until I hear its song selections have improved... then i'll do a re-review.

It's a nice private-room karaoke place, and one of a small few in the area, but it was still disappointing. First, there were not many English songs at all. I saw a lot of Queen, Madonna, Billy Joel, etc. - the standards, I guess, but it would be nice to have more of a selection. The rooms were very poorly insulated for sound, and in many cases, the noise from the bar in the outside lounge area was drowning out our music in the room. We stayed until closing, but at that point the server was literally kicking us out, standing at the door to the room and telling us to leave. On a positive note, the rooms are clean and spacious, their equipment worked great and was easy to use, and they had cordless mics that were easy to pass around the room. I should also mention that it was extremely hard to find. It's basically behind the Bank of America in a little office park (you will see large neon signs if you found it).

I had a really good time here last night. It was kind of confused entering the place since it is tucked away and the sign is not much help but once I found it I was good to go. I have never been to a karaoke bar like that before, just a bar that has karaoke a night or two a week. There was a pretty good selection of music and my friends and I had a good time jamming out. I just wish that there was no hourly rate set. I think the $55 per hour was a bit high. I wish they charged a flat rate/person for the entire night or a flat rate for the room for a 4hrs block or so. The drink menu was fine with beer a wine and the food menu was ok. I got the fried chicken wings and they were alright. They should add more to the menu. I think I had a lot of fun because of the group that I was with and after a couple drinks everything seems super awesome. I probably will return because it was a nice hangout spot on a Thursday night!

Word of advice. this place is a scam. They just changed ownership and you would think itd be better. Not only do they charge 6.5 for a bud light...they also auto charged us 20% worth of gratuity after the tax total. (We were sitting at the bar.....) I never wrote ANY yelp reviews for any place. Imagine how horrible this place is. Don't go.

I've never been here and I already hate it..lol No one pics up the phone and the mailbox is full. Are they closed for good or what??!? And little American song lists? Definitely not good for business.

I came here a few years ago and every time my friends and I went it was empty. One time we went for my friends birthday party and they said that we could stay two hours and get one hour free and so we did. But they charged us $36. When we went there it was happy hour so half of the usually cost so it would be around $18. When the worker there said we would get one hour for free he meant full price so practically we paid for our two hours. They tricked us... If you don't understand, it was a had to be there moment... The food as small and over priced and the rooms are puny. We also asked them why didn't give us a warning at the now hour mark... They said they did from outside..... Oh. Yea we can hear you warn us its an hour in a room filled with blasting music when we can't even hear ourselves think... But its the only Karaoke in town:( Would I recommend this place? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....No Wanna have a Karaoke night?Do it at home

I was really glad to be back in the Rockville area for some KTV. We have a friend who works here, which is why we ended up choosing this location. While the place is kind of tucked away and hard to find at first glance. There's the apparently free karaoke bar up front and then a few rooms. Okay, yes, you can hear the bar folks singing from your rooms, but only if you let your room fall silent. YOUR ROOM SHOULD NEVER BE SILENT. There should always be the sound of singing and backup instrumentals. The music selection was on a touchscreen in the corner and there was ample seating for all of us on the couches. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that they used the original music videos for ALMOST all of their songs. (Just when I was nostalgic for awkward 90s woman walking through scenic area, there she was! All was well.) There was no tambourine, which made me a bit sad, other than that, there was everything you need for karaoke and some good times. Not sure how pricing ended up working out, but I didn't feel like I was paying too much here when they asked for my share.

I have mixed feelings about this place. The good. The entire place looks very nice. The seats in the rooms are very comfy as well. The bad. So they do this deal thing where you can either buy the room for X dollars OR you can order a lot of food that costs Y dollars and get the room for "free". You would assume that you'd immediately take the second one because its "better". However one thing they don't tell you on the website is that they actually have 2 separate food menus, menu A and menu B. If you choose the second option, then you recieve Menu B where the prices are SIGNIFICANTLY higher. We're talking about close to twice the Menu A price. A can of soda for 6 dollars. Dumplings for 15 dollars. Don't get me wrong... the food was good but not 15 dollars worth good. In the end we came out wondering if we even got a better deal or not. As the other two reviewers mentioned, the English song collection needs to be updated. They had more recent songs, such as Boom Boom Pow and Don't Trust Me, but they were out of sync so we skipped over them.

The venue - if you can find it - is actually quite nice given it is located in the middle of a Maryland suburbia. Once you enter the plaza, there are 1-2 small, white signs with arrows that direct you to iRock Karaoke, but they're very easy to miss especially if you're looking for iRock by driving around (as opposed to by walking). Also, do not walk straight up the staircase behind the iRock sign as it is just leads to a locked door to the back of a sushi restaurant. The actual iRock venue is to the right of the sign and staircase. My boyfriend and I came here at around 9:20PM on a Friday night to find it empty. Our very friendly host led us to our room and booted up the system all the while explaining how to use the touch screen system. I asked if we could use the complementary drink coupon that's on Yelp if you sign in to the establishment but was told it could only be used if we sat at the bar (disappoint.....). The rooms are actually quite nice with good lighting and surround sound. No tambourines though, and the mics we had were both low on battery and flickered on and off. The one real complaint I have about this venue is this: a want for more Korean songs. The home page of the songs system offers to categorize the songs by country of origin - no Korea. Mind you there are some Korean songs, but the repertoire is neither updated nor diverse. It didn't even have Girls Generation- and that says something! Not to say all karaoke venues should also prioritize Korean songs, but still? When we finished our hour, we walked out to see the bar area filled with people. Seems like a nice, casual place to hang out!

I did come back and talked to the owner and he took full responsibility for what happened. He owned up to it and we had a great time. As long as the service is good and we have fun, this place is a blast. Check it out!

Hours say they close at 2 but no-- they close early. I came as the employees were walking out and they told me they close at midnight when it's slow. It's not even midnight([it was 11:45 when we got here). I don't even usually write reviews for non-restaurant establishments but I am so blown right now. I am visiting from California right now originally from here but recently moved) and I was excited to be able to karaoke tonight. I hope this place goes bankrupt for ruining one of my few nights i have back in town. This is the first time I've ever written a review on the spot and hopefully my last.

There was a room mixup when we got there, but we eventually got into the room we reserved. The room smelled like we walked into a can of Axe... yum. Service was slow, and they forgot some of our drinks. Song selection was ok. People kept walking into our room on accident because I guess they had a room mixup too. When we paid out bill, they were having register problems, and it took about 30min to fix it. The next day, we noticed a double charge. After calling the bank, we found out they had actually charged us 10 times but only 2 went through. The bank canceled 1 and submitted a fraud claim. Now we're waiting on a replacement card. Fun times. Will not return.

It was a great turnaround of the game! Even though I live close, I don't visit here a lot before when the shop was under old management. However, I visited it again after I heard it changed owner, and later it obtained liquor license (the old owner only had beer and wine license and later was revoked because of wrong doing). Karaoke is always my thing and I am glad that the songs are pretty up-to-date. The drinks are fairly good and I was told by the owner that there are some experienced bartenders starting working there. The crowd is fun and not too crazy. They are mainly Asians, but I have seen people of all colors and ages mingling here. The bar area is newly renovated and looking pretty good. There are several interesting updates to the decor, too, such as the colorful LED ottomans. Btw, love their new floor and overhead lights at the bar! They changed the food menu! And it's definitely an upgraded!! Snacks and food are great! Some Taiwanese style food were on the menu. The noodle is pretty good! For a late night snack. Awesome! The people working there are easy and fun to talk to. The actual location of this place is a little bit tricky to find. It's behind the plaza. There is a drive-through kinda alley by Bank of America. I was a bit confused when I was looking for it the first time like three years ago. I would recommend this place to friends who want to hang out casually and maybe pick songs to sing together near the bar, or have a karaoke theme night with a group of friends in their reserved karaoke rooms. Fun!

The new ownership is really trying to make the place better. Better audio system, better food/drink, and better service. They even have bouncers now. Very good experience when i was there last week!!

Went there for my daughter's 14th birthday. The kids had a blast! All items (room, food, and beverages) are reasonably priced even during the weekends (think they have happy hour special during weekdays only). Bartender is also doing a great job keeping us adults entertained with delicious drinks in the bar area. Wasn't sure about the song availability but it turned out to be great. Definitely will go back again.

This place is horrible. No service, mics broke twice in 1 hour, the song selection system is non intuitive and takes 10 min to figure out, plus they're remodeling so the place looks like crap. If I could, I would close them down. What a terrible place.

This place is finally getting cleaned up. They got rid of that ugly carpet. The updated decor is pretty cool. I also see they added more staff to improve their services, plus they now serve liquor and have a much improved food menu. It gets pretty crowded on weekends with more mixed crowds. I'm glad to see this place becoming one of my other options, Clyde's or Rockville town square, AND you get to sing!

Had a blast with my crew tonight! We drank, we sang and had a good time. I ordered the fried chicken wings, which were pretty good. The wings are only served fried with ketchup and ranch dressing on the side. It would have been nice to have a few more dipping options... like bbq sauce or honey mustard maybe? There was only one waitress/hostess for the night. Good news, it wasn't very busy considering it was Thursday, so it wasn't a big deal. It gave our group some privacy. I'll definitely go back again. I'd like to go back on a busy night and see the difference.
