Great little addition to Downtown Frederick. Stopped in here to grab a bite and checkout the new spot. For starters, the decor was super trendy and inviting -- it has a contemporary industrial feel to it. The restaurant was clean as a whistle. I'm a burger junky. I love to eat and try burgers from all around. And if there are wings on a menu I usually almost always get them... Even if it means an argument with my wife (she's not a wing eater). I went with the barbecue bacon American cheese burger. Kept the condiments traditional to LTOP. The burger temperature was prefectly cooked and served on a fresh brioche bun. I loved the barbecue sauce which I think is homemade. It was sweet and tangy-- nice addition to my patty. The condiments were fresh. I could tell they use a high quality beef and bacon (which was thick cut). Fries were tasty also. I polished them all off. I didn't have much room to eat my wings but I simply didn't have a choice, they were AMAZING. These wings were different from anything I've previously had. I ordered half rexs style and half old bay They came grilled, which was unique and super good. I guess my big mistake was not ordering the strawberry milkshake. I told the lady to give me one but then last minute took it off... I'll get it next time. Overall I was very pleased. Will definitely be back!

I love burgers. LOVE burgers. My mother knows this and recommended it. At first glance this place looks like it has limited seating but don't worry, there is plenty more upstairs. My husband and I both enjoyed our burgers very much, along with the fries. The staff was friendly and quick! Definitely will go back.

Food is just okay, nothing great, and way over priced. The employees have no knowledge of the beers that they sell, which was a big turn off. If you're selling a variety of beers (also over priced), you should be able to have your employees describe what your selling. They had fresh brownies that they just pulled from the oven and were sitting out. We asked for one of those instead of one of the wrapped ones that had been clearly made way earlier. They said "no" without any explanation so we got the old brownie which tasted dry and very stale (and I'm not one to criticize deserts). I'm very disappointed overall with Rex's.

I see a lot of four and five star reviews listed for Rex's....I must be missing something here. My wings were lukewarm and the the burgers were overcooked. Nothing special here. I have a problem supporting the local guy that charges corporate prices but wants the homegrown tag...overpriced trendy bar food. ***UPDATE!!!*** I returned for another visit after the owner asked me to give it another try because he believed my first go around was a fluke. Well he was right. Today I enjoyed a delicious cheesesteak and my boys had burgers and e/t was perfect! The owner takes pride in his food and It shows. My sons are asking when are we going back. If your in town folks give it a try you wont be dissapointed. Two thumbs up!

Very casual dining experience. You want a sandwich salad or wings with a beer this is your place. Really friendly staff. Trendy and clean establishment. I ordered the avocado bacon burger without the bacon - good burger but the party was too small for the bread. They're known for the wings and my friends go there for the wings so I suggest you stick to that.

Nice place in downtown for lunch. The place is pretty roomy with seating downstairs and upstairs. The menu has expanded quite a bit since they first opened but so far I've had a burger, the chicken sandwich, the grilled cheese and the Ruben and all were good. The fries on the other hand are sub par and are a hit or miss. The other downside is that it's a bit pricey but now they started to include the fries without having to pay for it as a side.

Burgers have absolutely no taste. If I'm consuming 1100 calories I'd like at least enjoy what I'm eating, not just chewing tasteless meat (I've had better from fast food places, at least they have taste). Fries are good, but WAY overpriced overall. Go to Wag's, you won't be disappointed.

Made trip two to Rex's today, decided it was worth a second shot. After 'shot two' it was confirmed that may have been a mistake and their won't be a shot three. For starters, doesn't really effect my dining experience but the place was empty as it was the first time and pretty much every time I walk by. They seem very over staffed for the lack of business, but again doesn't effect my experience. The staff behind the counter seem friendly but didn't seem very knowledgeable. I asked about the black bean burger, specifically if it was gluten free if ordered without a bun. The female cashier said something along the lines of yeah probably I think it is, when I asked what was in it binding agent such as bread crumbs, flour, etc. all she could tell me was it had black beans and veggies in it. A male employee offered to go ask which was appreciated as when asking about gluten it usually has nothing to do with not liking the taste but an allergy or in my case celiac. It turns out it wasn't gluten free. We ordered: 10 wings with fries apparently they come with a side would have preferred to order just wings, had the bacon guacamole burger with cheese which is extra, this also comes with a side which I chose coleslaw. Order was topped off with an angry orchard and a soda. The total was $33 or so. While a little pricey if the quality and taste matched wouldn't by any means be outrageous. The overall theme which I remembered from the first time was everything we had lacked seasoning. The wings were grilled which was different they were old Bay flavor but you never would have know, had no flavor aside from grilled. They also seemed under cooked I had one bite and moved on to the other items. The coleslaw was soup, so wet and drenched we barely had any. The fries tasted as if they had no salt and were also undercooked soggy and not great. The burger was good but not $13 counter service good. The bacon was very undercooked, practically raw. The burger needed some seasoning in my opinion, salt and pepper. It really is a shame as the place is great lookong, was clean, and with chains like flipping pizza popping up in dt frederick you really want to support small businesses like Rex's. It just seems to me that they aren't hitting the mark.

Nice, fast service. I had the steak and cheese, wife had ham & cheese. Ham & cheese was brought out as a grilled cheese. When it was replaced both sandwich and fries were cold. Flavor was awesome, fries were a little over cooked. All in all, it was average diner food.

It is very nice to have a fast service addition to downtown that sells burgers, fries, and sandwiches. I had some nearby errands so I finally stopped in to try the Tuesday special, which gets you any burger with side and drink for $10. That's an awesome price since burgers alone start at 10 bucks. I chose the BBQ Bacon burger, because bacon, with all the fixins. When I got home, I was shocked at the huge size. The burger was good but nothing really made it stand out from any other burger. Oh but I did note the bun was toasted on the griddle so that was nice. The fries were so-so since they were pretty soggy. That could've been because they were in the to-go box for 20 minutes but they also had super salty pockets, as if someone forgot to toss them a couple of times after salting them. I might be back to try a milkshake or a sandwich but I'll head elsewhere for burgers. Just my opinion but once you start looking at $15 for burger and fries, I'd rather either head to Five Guys or sit down for a leisurely lunch at one of the full service restaurants downtown.

TL;DR: Fries need major improvement, milkshakes are not great, the burgers are ok. If you're looking for burgers and fries, head a little farther down Patrick to go to Beef 'N Buns 'N Paradise. I really wanted to like Rex's. Great location, and I was happy to have more late night options on the weekends to give some competition to Pretzel Pizza. I almost want to give Rex's three stars, but it's a resounding "meh." At a burger and fries place, I expect the fries to be crispy, salty, and something to crave after a night drinking downtown. The fries at Rex's have been soft and soggy every time I have been there, from when they first opened, to now. I would guess the oil temperature of the friers are too low, or the oil isn't being changed frequently enough. Whatever it is, I can't recommend the fries. Major strike. The burgers are not bad, but not great. Definitely not good enough to entice me back, and especially not with how lacking the fries are. If their milkshakes were great, I would definitely return more often, but they taste like standard soft serve milkshakes. Similar to Burger King or DQ. The atmosphere is nice, and it's nice that they serve beer. However, if you're looking for a good burger and fries, I would go to Wags, Brewer's or anywhere else really. For the best burgers/fries in Frederick, head down E Patrick a little bit to Beef 'N Buns 'N Paradise. Their burgers are fantastic, fries are great, and the milkshakes are excellent.

This is a great new burger joint! I came in with a friend for dinner this week and we both really enjoyed it. It is counter service, so we ordered and sat ourselves in front of their giant front window. It was a great view on a lovely day. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich loaded up with free toppings which came with a side of fries. The sandwich was delicious and the fries were pretty good too. For $9 I thought this was a great meal. My friend ordered the cheeseburger sliders (three with a side of fries) and thought they were equally tasty. This is casual dining at it's best and I can't wait to return!

YES! This is EXACTLY what Frederick needed. I love the retro/industrial vibe in here. Service was super friendly as well. Just order at the counter and they'll give you a number and bring your food to you. Wings, burgers, sandwiches, salads and MILKSHAKES fill the menu. Everything we had tasted great, I highly recommend the sweet potato fries. Sit on bar stools in the big window up front, or head upstairs for more seating. NEW. FAVE. LUNCH. SPOT. P.S. I may or may not be at work writing this review and finishing of my chocolate and strawberry milkshake :)

Went here this afternoon and really enjoyed it. They did such a nice job fixing up the interior of this historic building. It feels comfortable and relaxed. Service was friendly and answered all our questions. I got a grilled chicken sandwich and my husband got a BBQ bacon cheeseburger. I also got sweet potato fries. While it did take longer than anticipated to get our food (I think there was only one person on the grill) the food was delicious. We cleaned our plates. The manager asked how we liked everything when we left- a great sign of the care and interest they take in their customers. It's so nice to have a quick service meal option right downtown. It's not cheap (our bill was $28) but you get what you pay for. It's also a great people watching spot with its big windows and pull up bar. So fun.

Went there with a few friends one evening. One got a grilled cheese w.o tomato and another got chili cheese fries. After about ten minutes, a cook comes out and asks what they got. They show him the receipts and he must have realized the tickets for the kitchen weren't printing. We waited another 20-30min for their food. They offered NO apology or comp them for the wait. The food they got was mediocre at best. The chili cheese fries were just fries topped with a disgusting amount of ground beef. You couldn't even call it chili. And the grilled cheese...if course...had tomatoes. Even though they asked for it without. Before this, my fiance and I went for food...his fries were raw. Hope this place gets it together soon.

Another great find here in down town Frederick. I drove by this restaurant many times and decided to try it out for the first time today. The lay out of the place was very pretty cool. Very retro historic like as well as clean and bright. The restaurant was two floors and very spacious. The staff here were extremely nice and helpful. The menu it self had so much to choose from! The price was not as bad as I thought. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich with the coleslaw, my son had the kids burger and my brother had the turkey burger with fries and we both split some dry rubbed wings. The food was not that bad, not spectacular, but I still enjoyed it. Overall, with the way the staff treated us and the many selections they have to offer, I would most definitely come back here and would recommend this restaurant. :)

The food is good. I highly recommend the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. Their sliders were a little in the dry side when I had them, but they were still good. Calling an order in for pick up is kind of a pain though because their online menu isn't the same as their in-house menu. Making the situation more challenging is the folks they have answering the phone don't seem very comfortable with taking orders over the phone. Case and point: ordered a side salad in lieu of fries with my sandwich. The girl even repeated it back to me over the phone. Got my order, no side salad. Wasn't even on the order ticket. Other than that, it's a good spot for a quick bite in downtown Frederick.

This is exactly what was needed in the area! The Mac n Cheese is approved by my very picky 3 year old, and the bbq burger is exactly what I was hoping for - delicious!

You're probably better off just walking past Rex's and onto something better. We went in for a late lunch, and though the place was by no means packed, our food took forever. Like to the point that they must have been cooking just one item at a time. The staff and kitchen seemed disorganized and it obviously reflected on their turnaround time. My sandwich, the Dave was just average, but my date didn't take more than one bite of his chilli burger it was so bad. The fries were good but super greasy and I couldn't eat more than a few. We tried this place out because it looked nice, but with overpriced, average at best food and ridiculous wait times, we won't be back.

I was invited here by a friend of ours, whose brother owns the restaurant. She's been posting some great shots of the food and the restaurant, so I had to come check it out! I'm so glad I did. First, let's take a tour of the place. It's got a good mixture of industrial and swank, while feeling home-town as well. It's got a map of Frederick right on the entrance wall that tells you this place is all about the neighborhood. The attention to detail of the decor is top notch. Apparently, every piece of wood, painting, etc. has a back story. Even the location itself is historic. It's a two tier location with plenty of seating, with the upstairs having two flat screen TVs playing sports. Now, onto the food because it's the star. I got the mushroom and Swiss burger. At $12, it's not cheap but you get a large burger. It's at least a quarter pound burger cooked from ground as if you took some beef fresh, ground it and slapped it all on the grill yourself. The mushrooms were sauteed with a perfect caramelization. The aged Swiss added a hint of tang, coupled with the butter leaf lettuce, fresh tomato and red onion, assembled on a lightly buttered and toasted potato bun... it made for a great burger! We also got the Dave, which is a 6" warmed over roast beef, topped with sauteed spinach, cured bacon, cheddar, and an innovative curry ranch sauce. Wow! Incredible! Just full of flavor, with roast beef that tasted premium. Even the kid's meal cheeseburger was tasty. My son doesn't eat very fast. Actually, he's quite the slow eater. However, no sooner did they put down his burger that it was devoured two minutes later. That's good food! They even put real cheddar on his burger (not that American cheese cheap stuff!) The fries were reminiscent of Ocean City boardwalk fries, lightly salted with crushed sea salt. Other aspects of the menu is a full compliment of Flying Dog beers, reasonably priced. Do yourself a favor and try this joint out if you're in the neighborhood! So many other good looking, tasty things I was too full to try, including the huge wings, milk shakes, and original recipe Mac and cheese. I know I'm coming back!

My boyfriend and I went there for the first time earlier this week and the customer service was great. However the food was ok. My boyfriend ordered the bacon avocado burger with cheddar bacon fries we both agreed it was a pretty decent burger but the fries was horrible probably the worse fries we had in this downtown area. I ordered the steak and cheese with Mac and cheese. Warning don't ever get the Mac and cheese the worst I ever had in my life the boxed Mac and cheese is amazing compared to there's. And my cheesesteak was dry very dry. Let's just say the stars I rated is from the great customer service and a very nice laid out restaurant.

I had the sausage and my girlfriend had the black and bleu burger. I figured it'd be a decent burger place but it was really high quality with really friendly employees. Definitely recommend and definitely will come back. Fitting of an odd void in downtown frederick.

I decided to try this relatively new place in downtown for lunch on a Tuesday. The menu looked great and the Yelp reviews were good, so I thought I would be happy. I was not. My order was taken at 12:45pm and I received my chili burger 25 minutes. I should have known there was going to be a problem when the young lady next to me had to complain about timely food and ended up boxing up her lunch to go. After I complained about the slowness, the waitress said "You are right, it is slow." No one ever came over to my table of friends to appologize. Bottom line: good food, bad value.

Solid place for a burger, fries, and a beer. Just stopped in with my family right before closing on a Sunday evening. Rex's graciously served us even though they were clearly already cleaning up the place for the night. I had the avocado bacon burger; juicy which a generous scoop of avocado on top. The burger went great with the Flying Dog session IPA. The fries were good enough for me to eat them all (along with a few snagged from the rest of my family's plates). I would say that they are very similar to five guy's fries which made me wish they were Cajun seasoned.

SHORT REVIEW: highly recommended! They have GRILLED WINGS which, if you have never had them, are the best way to have chicken wings. Definitely go here ASAP. I went here yesterday with my boyfriend after stumbling upon the restaurant. The first thing I noticed was the cool decor! The vibe here is really awesome. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The first thing we noticed on the menu was that they have GRILLED WINGS!!! I love grilled wings. My dad always made them this way and I always hate eating wings out because fried wings suck!! Obviously we got the wings, but we wanted to try a burger and fries too. We settled on the sweet bbq burger and it was delicious. Very messy, but in a good way. The crispy onions on the burger were perfect. Because we got a bbq burger, we opted for the house wing sauce, which wasn't my favorite. I did like how spicy they were! Right up my alley, but they should probably put a warning since so many people have trouble with spice. Despite not being in love with the sauce, the wings were grilled, so they were 100x better than a fried wing from anywhere else. Oh! The fries were great too. Perfect for covering in vinegar. I can't wait to try the cheddar fries with some wings the next time I go! I will probably be here weekly while I'm home for the summer. SO GOOD!!

Disgusting. My wife got a mushroom omelette and I got the pancake platter. After 20 minutes of waiting, I was told they were out of pancake mix. I settled for an egg breakfast sandwich. Five minutes later, my wife got her omelette. The vegetables were raw and cold - an unappetizing contrast to the hot eggs. This was more like an egg patty with some vegetables plopped in. A very lazy omelette, if you can still call it that. My sandwich came out several minutes later with the burnt scraps of the potatoes that were left. The egg was undercooked. I like runny yoke, but this was beyond undercooked. If I put pressure on the sandwich, milky white egg mucous would squish out. Get it together, Rex.

Stopped in with a few friends after our weekly stop at the comic shop across the street. Wednesday the special is the cheesesteak which I got. It's not the best cheesesteak you'll ever have but it was good. The portion size was big and everything was fresh. My friends got burgers all of them were pleased with their choices. Staff was very friendly and the service was really quick. I think I got my food less then 10 mins after ordering and they had a steady amount of people there at the time. It's worth a shot stopping in and I'm glad to have a restaurant that's in a more affordable range than most of the others downtown.

Tried Rex's not too long ago, and it was good. I don't come on here to complain about most places but I was disappointed when I asked about the Veggie burger on the menu. For over $8 I was told it was Morningstar. I know it's a burger place so most people go for the meat, but I'd love to see a homemade veggie burger here! Overall it was a nice clean place and I ended up getting the avocado burger instead.

Awesome burgers, subs, and FRIES! Perfect addition to DTF! Trust us...it's all about Jim's 50/50 Burger. 1/2 beef, 1/2 pork. Meat lovers' delight! Hit the upstairs seating for classic rock and lots of daylight. It's our new fave!

The owner has worked wonders with this space and with wing sauce. The wings are grilled, creating the perfect blend of crispy and juicy. When you visit, don't forget to visit the gorgeous upstairs which would be perfect for watching a game.

I've heard so many great things about Rex's that I finally made it there for lunch today and they did not disappoint! The best part was the staff was lively, nice, kind and all around very charismatic. They had a great lunch special $10 for a drink, fries and burger! I got a burger with avocado, bacon, spinach and BBQ sauce and it was amazing! Best burger in Frederick! It was perfectly cooked, juicy, favorable and the fries were just right. I can't wait to go back! I was happy to see a bucket of beer for happy hour/dinner after work, great spot and addition to downtown Frederick.

I had the hot dog with chili and it was very good! The hot dog wasn't too greasy and had a lot of flavor. The chili was also good but next time I'd just get the hot dog plain because it was just that good. :) I askee if they could put cheese on my chilli dog and it came out sprinkled with cold shredded cheddar, which was a little weird that they didn't want to melt it. If I had known that I wouldn't have asked. I will definitely be back.

I decided to give Rex's another shot because the owner emailed me three times about my last negative review and he was so nice in his comments to me (also offering me a free meal which I declined) that I promised him I would have another try. Today I ordered lunch to go for myself and one of my co workers and we both were delightfully happy with our lunches. She had what she called a "kick ass cheeseburger" and I had a really good brat smothered in fried onions and wonderfully charred green peppers. The meal was fresh and ready when they said it would be for pickup. We both agreed that this experience was great and we will absolutely be ordering lunch again soon. Had not the owner been so sincere in his approach to me, I doubt I would have returned and I thank him for making me feel like a valued customer!

Have been here twice with coworkers (so far!) and it has been good stuff. On the first trip, I got the Avocado Bacon Burger, which was delicious. I was able to sub coleslaw for the French fries. It was a LOT of coleslaw. The burger was juicy and generally amazing. I went back today for the Old Bay wings which were SO GOOD. I loved grilled chicken wings because you get the extra flavor from the slight char on them. Service was quick and friendly on both visits.

Quality establishment right here! Just had the Bacon Avacado Burger for my first visit and it was delicious. You could tell the avacado was just cut up and the burger seasoned properly. Very clean. Only mistake is I didn't get a beer with my burger. Next time though, can't wait to work my way around that menu.

Stopped in for a burger and some wings. Had the "50/50" burger which was pretty good, but The wings were TERRIBLE. Worst wings in Frederick, easily. They serve local beer, though. Have to appreciate that. And the service was exceptional.

My husband & I went here last nite and were really impressed. The decor is really cool -there's a retro vibe without being tacky or kitschy. There's a solid foundation for the menu, and they offer a lot of add-ons and customization options, especially for burgers. We liked that every table had ketchup, and two kinds of mustard. Our only two (minor) disappointments were that it felt a little drafty and the menu board was a little hard to read and didn't give descriptions of the food. However, it was maybe 15 degrees outside last nite, so the place couldn't help but be a little chilled, and it didn't bother us enough to change our experience. The menu problem was easily fixed by taking one of the paper menus from the pile by the register to get more info. Plus, the staff was really good about making sure you knew what you were getting when you ordered, and was awesome with answering questions. So, overall, this place gets two thumbs up from us...we'll be back!!

This place wants so badly to be Shake Shack or Smashburger, sadly it is not.The food is middle of the road and over priced.Quality ingredients but lacking in flavor. My advice would be to go to JoJo's right across the street.

Got charged $5.70 for three plastics cups for water-they rang it up as soda and when questioned after we saw the price after ringing up they they said that was the cost for the cup!! Adult burger was same size as kids burger after claiming it was MUCH bigger. Sweet potato fries were overdone. Burgers and cheeseteak were good but overpriced considering size. Was hopeful for a regular place to go but now won't be going back.

They pretty much killed it with American fare. I'm so happy that they grill their wings. It's delicious, and a much healthier option than fried wings. You must try the wings! Also, after Canal closed it was impossible to find a GOOD turkey burger anywhere in DTF. Rex's makes them just right. And the interior is really cool. I am a fan.
