I heard that this place was voted best fried chicken in Frederick so I tried it out. Quite possibly the worst fried chicken I have ever eaten. Zero flavor and really over cooked. You could probably find better fried chicken in a high school cafeteria.

This place is such a great quick lunch spot that I almost want to keep it a secret. But that would be wrong. I n the spirit of sharing the love, allow me to be the 8th person to tell you how wonderful Doc Geiser's is. First of all, you can get a one piece, one side lunch special for $4. I don't personally do that, because I want two pieces and two sides. Actually, I want all the sides. If there's no line, you will have your meal in about 5 minutes flat. The chicken will be hot and crispy, and you will probably wish you'd ordered a whole bucket to beast alone in a corner somewhere. In terms of sides, I've enjoyed the baked beans and the apple sauce recently. The cole slaw has a good flavor but the pieces are basically pulverized, and I like a mine a little more salad-like, I guess. I've heard great things about the tiny sliders, but I haven't tried them yet. I also saw a truck in the lot that suggests catering and delivery capabilities....Oh, the possibilities! The staff are friendly, and there are some tables in the back if you can't wait to bust into the chicken, although the food is packaged well for takeout.

Ha...so...this place... The sliders were good....LOL. The chicken had no seasoning what so ever. It wasn't freshly fried. You know how you go to Popeye's and the chicken tastes freshly prepared. LOL. Not at this place. I don't want to waste too much time on this review....but they need to invest in onion salt, paprika, and maybe some Morton's Nature Seasoning....also new batter for the chicken. Oh and maybe mop the place...or tear it down and build it again. But try it for yourself...don't listen to me. What do I know? LOL

First time here and the chicken was ok. It was nicely cooked, but it was pretty bland. It could have really used some salt. The Mac-n-cheese was pretty standard. Not bad. The baked beans were really sweet.

So I fell for the shiny truck with its flashy wrap parked outside and decided to give Doc Geiser's a try instead of my original destination, Sardi's, located just a couples doors away. While I was considering eating in the dining area didn't look very interesting so I opted for a "To Go" evening instead. I am always hesitant to write a review when doing take out (if that's not their primary business) but try to check back for a dine in experience. So, enough of the disclaimer. The staff were polite and friendly. They were interested in helping a first timer which is always appreciated. The food was quickly packaged (obviously the chicken was not cooked to order) so I hustled home with 4 pieces and 2 sides to share. The home made baked beans were very good as were the Lima beans. Neither was mushy ànd flavors were distinct and tasty. Both were a good surprise. The chicken was just OK but would likely have been somewhat better of I had eaten at the restaurant. The coating was crisp and not too thick and that's a good thing. Bottom line: Doc's was a solid 3 for me but may well rate higher with a dine in meal. I'd definitely give it another try.

Came here to pick up some fried chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans, and mashed potatoes for a spur of the moment holiday family get-together (gotta love that side of your family that loves to pop in for surprise visits). Decided to see the silver lining (one of my new years resolutions) in this unexpected family catch up session and write my first food review of 2014...yay! The fried chicken is magnificent. The fried outside is very very crispy and crunchy without being oil soaked. I opted for a breast piece which I re-purposed for dinner later (more on that in a bit). The meat was vibrant white, not sad and mushy looking like some other fried chicken I have had. The meat was so tender, juicy, and flavorful. I was so so in love with this chicken. I am not usually one to eat the crispy skin, but I quickly realized that depending on the quality of the fried outside, I could totally get down on some fried chicken skin. I could not stay away from this delicious crispy skin in particular, it was just so flavorful with the perfect crunch. I had the BBQ baked beans and mixed some with the macaroni salad. While both sides are great on their own, mixing them together made for an awesome combo. The creamy cool onion flavor of the macaroni salad merged with the sweet warm baked beans was lovely. Sort of a sweet tangy mixture that I actually had to tell myself, "no more!" to. The mashed potatoes were like the ones my brother and I used to have in elementary school, very very think and kind of tasteless unless you use some of the gravy that comes with and eat with some of that fried chicken. The mashed potatoes were probably the most unmemorable side for me of our feast mostly because I am not a gravy for flavor type of gal. My bite of the meal was to take a little bit of macaroni salad with baked beans, a piece of chicken with the juicy meat and crispy outside...drooling thinking about it right now! A little bit later, I took what was left over of my chicken breast and shredded the meat over some salad greens, it was the deliciousness that kept on giving because the chicken made for a fabulous salad accompaniment. I completely suggest this be your fried chicken go-to if you find yourself in Frederick, you will not be disappointed. Next time, I am going to try their steamed burgers and loaded submarines, update review to come. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Doc Geiser's is located in a nondescript shopping strip off the main thoroughfare, like all the best restaurants selling a regional, ethnic food. Fried chicken, the pride of the South, the comfort food of soulful sustenance, the best of uptown, downtown, and out of town, is well made at Doc Geiser's. A wonderful crispy texture, not heavy, and juicy meat awaits every bite. For my tastes, the chicken needed salt, or hot sauce if you're into the chicken box flavor route, but this place fries a mean bird. The sides are usually what establishes the geographic context of the owner's intent: the menu at Doc Geiser's features no boiled greens, potato wedges, etc. It's straight Pennsylvania Dutch-esque: a collection of potato, pasta, macaroni salad, green beans, mashed potatoes, etc. This helped to explain the fear of using a stronger salt hand. Of the sides that I ordered, the house made coleslaw was the weaker of the two. The flavors were nice, a bit like KFC coleslaw except not as sweet, but my biggest complaint would be the overblending of the components leaving the slaw watery and missing crunch. The macaroni salad, though, was a wonderful companion to the chicken, bringing a wonderful creamy zing. As a bonus, I ordered two of their "Old Frederick Favorites" Doc White Burgers. Much like Krystal's or White Castle, the little sliders feature steamed burger patties with fried onions and a slice of pickle. The meat is juicy and seasoned appropriately, but overall, the balance of flavor was hampered by the thickness of the dinner roll bun. The bread soaked up the meat's juice, which is something to be applauded, but it also dampened the vinegar notes of the too-thin slice of pickle. There's a reason why the national mini-burger chains use a less substantial bread. I would still eat a bag full of the Doc White's, but would probably ask for some extra pickles or even mustard to take these gut grenades down. Two other notes: 1) the price is a bit on the high side, with a single slider going for 1.19 versus the around 80 cents for a comparable Krystal. The chicken was priced competitively, especially since I would prefer to eat at Doc Geiser's over a Royal Farm every time. 2) the people working there are friendly and inviting. Great people making good food - why wouldn't you make the lunch drive if you work in Frederick?

I read all the excellent reviews about this place so I decided to drop by and try the white burgers. I love White Castle burgers and was expecting a similar if not better experience. I have to say, I was disappointed. The burgers were dry and tasteless. I also ordered the macaroni salad (not bad) and Cole slaw (also pretty good). The bag of burgers, large macaroni and coleslaw came in around $26 dollars. A little pricey if you ask me. I haven't tried the chicken everybody raves about, so I can't completely write this place off but I also can't see going out of my way to return.

Simply the best fried chicken I've ever had from a restaurant. Definitely A+ comfort food.
