I came here to watch some friends play music and order dinner. Nice covered outdoor area. I had some cream of crab soup which was tasty. The mushroom burger was smaller than expected. Waitress was good but brought me coffee with no spoon to stir it...details matter. Nice spot if you aren't expecting too much.

I came here because my coworkers said they made a really good hamburger. I tried the Mo-Oink Burger and it was delicious. It was 70% ground beef and 30% bacon. The burger was very flavorful (it's hard not to be when you have 30% bacon). I also got a slice of the apple pie which was very good. Overall, this place was really good, just pricey for the food. My burger was $13 and my pie was $4. It was an expensive lunch.

My husband and I moved to Burtonsville a year ago. Since then we've tried Seibel's less than half a dozen times each time hoping for improvement. The restaurant is right down the street from us and feels friendly and homey so it should have food the way Mama made it. Right? Instead, it repeatedly disappoints. They need a better chef somebody who cares about food. Sadly all the entrees we've gotten have the quality and taste of something just poured out of a can. The desserts are better, but could also use some improvement. Please, Seibels, retire your cook and get somebody else. You're losing business.

Terrible! Waitstaff was slow and rude! The portions were so small and the prices were high! $11.00 for a cheesebuger that came out with 8 fries! We left hungry after spendind $40.00 for lunch. We would have been better off going to Mc Donalds!

Its just ok. Pricey place for what you get. Lots of seating. Staff is pleasant.

Great breakfast place. Old timey. Not a chain. A family owned place where locals congregate. Had eggs benedict florentine. Great friendly service.

One of the worst meals I have had in a long time. The food is okay- for fast food. But this is not fast food. It's a sit-down restaurant with upscale prices. The prices are not even average for this area. We're talking appetizers for $12 kind of prices. So the prices are above average, the portions tiny, and the quality is what you'd expect from McDonalds. Just awful. We ordered crab potato skins. An appetizer for $18. We got 5 potato halves with a bit of crab in them and some sub-par melted cheese, with sour cream in a plastic container on the side. We sent them back. Not going to pay $18 for that. The steak was okay, not good or great. The kicker, however, was the mashes potatoes. They were INSTANT. They tasted exactly like KFC potatoes with runny nasty gravy on them. This place used to be a family-run restaurant that took a lot of pride in itself. Sad. I wish I could challenge this charge on my credit card it was so bad.

I paid $65 for a homeless shelter meal. I ordered two corned beef and cabbage for St. Patty's Day and I got my 3-year-old a "chopped steak" kids meal. The chopped steak was actually just a burger without the bun. Our meals were very bland. Heavy on the cabbage but only got one potato and a few slivers of corned beef. If I had money, I would buy this place in a heartbeat and make major changes. They are sitting on a gold mine but not doing anything with the gold. In a sea of fast food establishments and foreign cuisine, the have the chance to be a hit for locals looking for good, home style food bit they're just lacking in so many areas. I just ate one of my son's French fries...soggy and bland. Gross.

I've become a regular here and have nothing but good things to say. I won't wax on poetically about this Burtonsville institution. If you live in the area, you've probably been for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Nearly all of the time I'm at the bar in the back. Say "hello" sometime.

A friend brought me here for breakfast and I can't say that I was impressed nor disappointed. The service was friendly and you can tell the locals enjoy frequenting the restaurant. My omelet had decent flavor and I was actually glad it wasn't overwhelmingly filled with salt. There aren't too many breakfast-y places in Burtonsville, so this is a safe bet if you're looking for some homey kind of food.

Trust this restaurant to provide great service and comfort food. The Tuscan chicken sandwich is outstanding and of course the wide range of vegetables are prepared just right. A great seat is by the fireplace. Plus homemade ice cream!!

Called today to see if they were currently hiring. The young man who answered the phone asked me to hold for a manager. He then transferred me to Karen . I politely asked again "Hello by any chance are you guys hiring" Karen responded very rudely "Its lunch hours, if your want to work in a restaurant you need to learn not to call during lunch hours" and rudely hangs up. I have been in the restaurant business for over 3 years. Very disrespectful .

    Overpriced for mediocre food

    (1)
  • John B.

Really bad experience at seibels...extremely over priced, mediocre food at best, portions are on the small side, sometimes the food seems a bit old and perhaps not the freshest, genuinely mean owner with a really bad attitude that sits at the bar with her friends which is just unprofessional. Also future diners take my advice and just don't say anything about the amount of French fries you get with your sandwich....I learned that the hard way....I said something to the manager about it only to receive a tongue lashing by the owner 5 minutes later....it was my fault for continuing to argue with her as if I really care about French fries but in this case she could have easily just given the table more French fries which would have cost her a dollar at the most. Oh and I am sure I am like all of you and love apologies like "well I'm sorry you feel that way"...we tip well, pay whatever, never complain but this place is just WOW in a real bad way... so if you want to support mean people, eat bad food, be treated like a jerk, have someone make you feel bad, pay crazy prices by all means go here. That being said the waitress was very nice and the blue grass band sounded great...

I can't comment on the food because I never made it to the restaurant & definitely never will. I called with an inquiry and spoke to a woman named Lynn Martin, who I assume is one of the owners. This woman was one of the rudest people I've ever encountered, she needs a course on customer service as she is really lacking in her people skills. With so many other restaurants to choose from, chooseone of them!

As a special treat, I took my family here for dessert one Friday night this past summer. Both my sister-in-law and brother-in-law came along as well. I had heard from many locals that Siebel's ice cream and Pie selections were the best in the area so we had to try them out. Upon going to pay for everyone's dessert, I presented the cashier with a one-hundred dollar bill. Normally, I never have large denominations like this but on this occasion, I did. The cashier, an older woman who had the appearance of a quintessential grandma took a long look at me and asked "is this $100 dollar bill real?". I thought she was joking so I reassured her that it was in fact, not counterfeit. She took another long look at me and then said, "Allright. Well, I guess I can trust you because you're not wearing one of those towels on your head" [as she made a circular motion with one finger around the crown of her head]. I happen to be a dark skinned Mexican-American but she apparently thought I was of Middle Eastern descent and the motion she was making was referencing what I can only assume would be a turban. My family, which happen to be caucasion (except for my children who are half/half) all stood there in shock. I gathered my change and we left the restaurant. We have not, nor will ever, set foot in this restaurant again. It is unfortunate because the ice cream was very good but it just wasn't good enough to outweigh outright bigotry.

30 years ago Siebel's was one of the few restaurants in the Burtonsville area. They made their name with home-style cooking and made-fresh ice cream. It wasn't a fancy five star restaurant, but it was consistent, comfortable, and affordable for a family outing. Those days are clearly gone. Siebel's might now be described as a restaurant in steep decline. The food is ok, the service no better, and the portions (compared to the prices) seem almost unfair. Our recent visit was enough to put us off. The featured Rockfish was dried out, the fried chicken was over cooked, the waitress messed up our order at least twice, and we had to flag down help for refills and condiments. You get the feeling that no one much cares about quality or providing a positive dining experience for the guests. With so many choices in the area, do yourself a favor and avoid Siebel's, unless and until management cares again.

If it was possible I would give zero stars but our server was super friendly. My bf and I came here for brunch, upon entering we felt completely out of place ( maybe because we are 22 and everybody else is older?). We both ordered the Chesapeake bloody Mary's , our server asked if we wanted old bat vodka. We both love our old bay so sign us up! It was average at best, but I am biased because the premise mix was neither. George's or zing zang. The bartender showed us what was going to be there new specialty Bloody Mary, I wish I could have ordered it because t looked delicious! We then ordered the crab Benedict. Again we both always get this when we go out. I sadly disappointed. For twenty dollars I was expecting a little mor umph or pazaz! Brunch is a hobby for me so I get a little taken aback when the food is not comparable. Not to mention the crab Benedict at r j Bentleys in college park has better taste and nicer display. All in all if you are looking for a old school diner feel I would say come but for me I'm sorry it was not my cup of tea. Our bill total was around $60.00 which is nothing outrageous when we are dining but for two drinks and two entrees that was a little absurd. My bf actually felt like he got robbed and asked f the establishment was a front for something else. Probably never coming back.

See The picture of the goulash with rice, that's what you get, 3 to 4 pieces of meat and some of the potatoes are actually turnips, too much rice for the sauce.

It's my birthday and we decided to go out for dinner last minute. Decided to try something new. Sadly, we will not be coming back again or recommending to anyone either. It pains me to say this because the staff was friendly but the service was slow and the food just had no flavor except for the canned sauce on my chicken parm. The chicken was edible, was cooked fine, just can't get over the lack of taste. My wife loves salmon and gets it almost everywhere we go. She said it too had no flavor, it tasted fishy. Now I say this knowing that salmon is a fishy tasting fish, but the good chefs can cook salmon with very minimal fishy taste and other good flavors that jump out at you. I trust her judgement. I drank an Uptown Sunset which is some sort of moonshine mixed with cherry or some other fruity liquor and it tastes pretty good! Sweet but I'm on #2 right now! Just can't get over the meal which left us wanting for more. Sorry Seibals...PS...the decor is SERIOUSLY DATED...I mean seriously. But that is not reflected in my review. It could be a dump as long as the food is great. Not so great here. Not terrible, just more like meh.

I love diners and small, family restaurants. i REALLY want to like Seibel's, but I just can't. We've been there on many occasions for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it's always the same experience. The food tastes like we're ordering right out of the Sysco catalog and it's being prepared by bored people that are just punching the clock. The whole place feels dated, dull, slow and uninterested. It is beige. If you go there and eat, you'll be less hungry when you leave but you're unlikely to be any more satisfied.

I used to really love them. They stopped giving us free bread and that was the main reason I loved going there. The service and food just aren't what I remember as a kid. It tastes like you are eating frozen veggies and food, not homemade. I'm sad because I used to always beg my parents to go there for the veggie loaf. I went back a few weeks ago as an adult with my in laws thinking they would love it, and they were super disappointed :(

Ordered carryout on Friday. Food was horrid. Corned beef on Reuben was fatty and sparse, sliders were meh, Mediterranean chicken salad was disappointing and the chopped steak portion was tiny and they forgot the sides. I've been visiting this restaurant for over 40 years but this is my last visit. Would have been better off going to McDonald's.

This was my first visit. I've driven by this place all my life and never known it was there. I'm glad I stopped in. Two points to make... 1) This rating is simply all about the "Nameless" Burger. Simply put, it is a burger made of 70% ground beef and 30% ground BACON! Yes, you read that right. 30% ground bacon in the burger itself. I topped it with cheese and ummm, more bacon for good measure. It was really good. I just came back from L.A., where burgers reign supreme, and while this isn't the best burger I have ever had, it was certainly unique in a delicious way and I certainly can't think of any reason why every burger made anywhere else from here on out shouldn't be making theirs with 30% ground bacon, too! The only thing that will make Seibel's burger better, which I'm thinking about asking them to do, is to make it "juicy lucy" style (look it up...it's a Minnesota thing). If they did that, it would take this family run business since 1939 into foodie stardom... which gets me to point #2 2) Something that dawned on me while visiting L.A. was the adoration and respect for businesses and institutions that have been around for a long time. In California, a long time, means 1940's, and all the solid delis all opened their doors right around the end of WWII. Having eaten at Langer's, Nate n' Als, Andre's, etc..., I realized the value of a place that does something simple, yet does it really good. That's what Seibels does. Clearly, things have grown up around the area and the highway, literally has bypassed it, but it is a place worth going to, if not for the "nameless" burger, then for the tradition of it all. They make their own sausage by the way, and they serve breakfast until 2 p.m. I'm going back for that, because I'm sure it will be good.

I ate here once years ago and thought it was horrible. After hearing that it was under new management and much improved, I decided to give it another try. Although the decor is dingy and outdated, the food was fantastic. I was a little surprised by how expensive everything was given the run down appearance of the place. But once I had the food I realized that the cost was justified. The service was a little indifferent, but it was a Tuesday night. The Maryland crab soup is a must have, it may be the best I've had. If they update the decor and improve the service, this could easily be 4 stars.

Hadn't been here in awhile. Looked exactly the same, and that's not a bad thing. So what if they last decorated in the 90's? It's sparkling clean and comfortable. Kinda like visiting your Aunt Sadie. Peaceful. Pictures of family over the fireplace. Comfort food. Amazing gazpacho in the summer. Killer fried chicken on weekends. Real ice cream. You can get a solid meal here for a great price, served by friendly people in a quiet atmosphere. The regulars have been coming here for decades. If you try it, you just might like it, and a local family business will have a new friend. And, save room for dessert.

Ya know, it really depends on what you are looking for. Tonight I met up with a friend to gossip and stuff, and I wanted ice cream. So this was the perfect place to meet in the middle between Columbia and Rockville. I had a sundae with vanilla and black walnut ice cream (hot fudge was excellent!) and my friend had a peach ice cream cone. We both devoured it. They had about 10 different homemade flavors (cinnamon, peppermint candy, rum raisin...) Great homemade stuff. Staff was very friendly and did the perfect amount of checking up on us. Were the patrons high class clientele? No, but that's not what this place is meant for. It's here to be comfortable. Actually, the lovely fountain outside with seating in the front was one of the nicest parts of the evening out. Hanging out by a lovely lit up fountain with a pair of tiki tents a few feet away was very relaxing. Would come back just to hang out by the fountain.

Food doesn't taste great even it's expensive for certain food. In addition to insult to injury, the service was bad because we waited for the drinks for a long time and the young waitress showed a nasty attitude

  • Andy C.

I really wanted to like this place. My family went here a bunch of times because it was really convenient for us. But eventually we just gave up, because the food is so mediocre. The breakfasts are a disappointment; when you order an omelet with veggies in it, they don't cook the veggies, so invariably I'd get an omelet with raw onions inside it. The sandwiches and salads are ok, but not enough to make me want to rush back. The decor could really use an overhaul. It feels tired and in a time-warp, but not in an appealing retro way. My biggest complaint, though, is the indifferent service, particularly from the hosts. (The waitresses are generally very nice, though.) The place seems like it should be really kid-friendly, but too many times I felt annoyance from them that they had to seat yet another family with two young kids. Eventually it got too uncomfortable so we've just given up on the place. I'd be tempted to give it one star except for one thing - their ice cream. They were originally created as an ice cream parlor, and they still excel at it. I just wish they poured the same level of enthusiasm into their other menu items.

Being a Seibel, this used to belong to my family when it was originally a dairy shop. I have only eaten there once when I was a kid, but I often think about stopping in and seeing whats what

    (2)
  • Paul T.

We felt that the food had very little flavor, and the prices were much too high for what we got.

    (2)
  • Zachary G.

I've gone here a few times over the years as a kid, and never thought much of it. I was here today (as an adult) and I must say it is way over priced for what it is. I was going to order a chicken Cesar salad, but it was $15.99 with chicken. Are you kidding me? This place is a notch below a diner for sure. I ended up ordering a steak and cheese, and without fries it was still $8.99, and fries were an additional $2.99. My girlfriend had the stuffed oysters, and when we got home she felt sick and almost through up. I'm trying to think of something positive, and the only thing I can come up with is that our server was really nice. There is a great sushi place next door if you're looking for something good.

  • Brian C.

Food as a whole was ok. I would recommend their homemade turkey sausage, and as always... their fresh made ice cream! As far as the general food... it's no different then what one expects from an IHOP or Denny's. It's still ok though.

  • John V.

Like the new look! Always enjoyed a local place that had good for you food as well as some really good comfort food. Love the incredible ice cream and pies as well! The ice cream by the way is made at the restaurant! Would really recommend going there. :)

This is a place for the grey-haired demographic and is a wonderful place to go if you have an older relative and are going out for a mult-generational meal. They are also good for kids and I believe the kids' meals are free. I really enjoy coming here with my son and my parents but I probably wouldn't come without them. It is on the expensive side. One of the reasons must be because their quality is very high. The bread and ice cream are homemade. Their sandwiches don't come with sides, even chips, which annoys me. The food itself can be a bit hit or miss but most of it is good. I recommend their french onion soup and they have the best lemon meringue pie I've ever had. If you want simple, humble quality food and don't mind paying for it you'll like it. Their decor isn't great, it's pretty nostalgic, which makes sense with the demographic they primarily serve. But they do have a nice fireplace with a real fire going in the winter.

Mixed review here. This is a "Family" restaurant. Take that with all the usual connotations that go with it. This is something you'd find on a road trip in the rural South. The kind of place where the parking lot is always PACKED, but then you try it and you think "what the hell am I not seeing?" Everything is homemade. Everything is fresh as hell. That's certainly worth some points. It's about as basic comfort food as you can get... I guess that's worth some points too- that is if you're looking for Mom's meatloaf, or a fresh-ground burger (they grind their own beef, though I didn't see any cows out back or hear any Moos). It's the classic country "Family Restaurant" replete with homemade pies in a cooler as you come in the front door. I was expecting a Southern Preacher to yell at me, "Put your wallet on the radio... HEAL!" I can't bash it- they are really, really good at what they do, which is reach their target audience. I guess I'm just looking for something besides a basic meal that will leave me feeling warm and fuzzy as I leave. I like to be wowed by a gem of a dive! Conversely, if you, like much of Middle America, love a down home wholesome meal, you will be thrilled with Siebel's. As it is I have to give it 2 stars, but for Family Dining, they probably merit 5.

I came here with my family for dinner a few weeks ago. The place was kind of empty and very old-fashioned. The food was ok, but overpriced. I got the pasta special which was fettucine with chicken, peppers, and some kind of red sauce, and it was really bland and the texture was off-putting. The rest of my family ordered a crab grilled cheese sandwich, french dip au jus and fries (which had to be ordered separately...), and a small steak. I tried a little of all of those dishes and they were good. Not fantastic, just good, and not worth quite as much as they charged. We also got a coconut shrimp with marmalade appetizer to start. Six shrimp for $9 is absurd, though the two shrimp that I ate did taste good.

Awful, Awful, Awful......went there last Friday night. Was put in the back room -which was freezing. The decor was outdated - with plastic glasses and cheap looking chairs. In other restaurants I have never noticed this, so it's not something top on my mind, but as I scanned the room I noticed that the other customers were very elderly - not just a few but all of them were in their 70's or 80's. This combined with decor made me feel like I was eating in a retirement home. The slow service and the terrible food completed the experience. Frankly it was awful. We had two 5 year olds with us - got one a hamburger and the other chicken nuggets. The burger was terrible and came with about 7 French fries. The chicken nuggets were equally bad. Because they were 5 we thought they would eat free - found out that the only free kids meals were a hot dog or peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Their crappy meals were about $8 each - most of which was thrown away. My food was terrible as well - expensive roast beef sandwich - didn't get any sides no salad, no fries - but paid tiop dollar. You get better food and a complete meal - with salad and fries - at better prices at other restaurants. Spent over $50 dollars - and over two hours to basically eat terrible food in a place that felt like a retirement home. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone - should be avoided. No joking - McDonald's is better.
