If there were a shrine to childhood obesity in America, Kim's Hunan would be in the running. They have several large signs that say, "_____ Elementary School Loves Kim's Hunan" and they are signed by the kids @ that school. Attention makers of blood glucose meters! Come to Kim's and take down the names of these kids - they'll likely be diabetics when they grow up. That being said, the food @ Kim's is good. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, they don't hide the traditional Chinese menu unless you provide the secret codeword. I recommend: Deep Fried Spicy Squid ($8.95) - a little chewy but $4 less than you'd find anywhere else Crispy Shredded Beef w/ Szechuan sauce ($8.95) - crispy bits of beef in a sweet sauce: fattening & delicious Their soups are a little heavy on the starch, however. They are also trying to branch out into sushi - now that's a scary proposition: raw fish from a budget Chinese food restaurant. The owners are generally here all the time - what'd you expect from a Chinese restaurant? And they are very friendly and every time I go they seem to be talking to one of their regulars. Decent, cheap Chinese food in Burtonsville, located next to the Cheeburger Cheeburger.

LOVE their Wonton Soup and Sushi. Some of the best I have ever had. Also have not eaten a single item off their menu that was not delicious. Simply great eating!

My family used to come here all the time... The food is pretty good for the price and the service is decent. I only give one star because I have not once, but twice, found a staple in my food. Never going back here!

I grew up eating here when the original owner Bob and his wife were running the joint. Back then it was fantastic, best Chinese food in town. However it has since been sold and the new owner has let me down. Quality and quanity of the food had gone way down. Bummer, place used to be great.

I love this place. I go here often and get the sweet & sour chicken with regular rice, the lunch special. They pack a few vegetables to keep me healthy. The price is very reasonable for such a large portion. They have some great local advertisements in the walkway. Additionally, they have a great seating arrangement consisting of at least 18 booths. In retrospect I should try other things, but hey I cant let go of that ol S & S Chicken.

My parents' recently moved from one small town to another. Kim's Hunan is their new local Chinese establishment and unfortunately it came up very short on my "good eat's" meter. Their selection is wide- Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and even a few American dishes. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. As for my experience, it was not so good. As soon as I received my food (sweet and sour chicken), there was a piece of hair sticking out of the bite I was about to take. I understand "things happen" and I kind of believe great food has to be a little grimey but I don't wanna see it!! The prices were a little high for the quality but the portions were pretty big. All in all... I've definitely had better. I doubt I'd go back.

This review isn't much of the food. The food is great! But it's just that when the delivery guy came to bring my food, I was told before over the phone that I should present card. I thought that was odd but the person told me that it was for security purposes? When I presented my card, the delivery guy did a shading of my card. I was like 'wtf?' I think what they are doing is dangerous. I don't know when they have been doing this type of thing, but as of now I don't think I want to order from there using my card. It sounds pretty sketchy.

You could film one of those old Western films in this shopping center. You know, the one where the roll of hay tumble by b/c it's so deserted. 1/2 of the remaining stores are doing their best to keep alive- including Kim's Hunan. Good news is that you could park your car in 3 spaces and everyone else can still find parking. Ok onto the restaurant itself- It's not nice enough really to bring your entire family for Sunday dinner but not as grungy as some tiny, hole in the wall Chinese take outs. It has ample seating so if you wanted to sit down and eat you could. They bring out real plates (not Styrofoam) and real silver utensils if you look like you're doing some family-style dining it seems. Their combo lo mein is the best. Hands down. When I ordered mine's to go, I was stunned by how much they stuffed the container. Fried chicken and fries are good. The other stuff are pretty much up to par with other places- chicken with broccoli, tofu w/ black bean sauce, mongolian beef. I would skip the crab wontons though. It barely had any filling. Did I mention their lo mein was good? Pretty consistent. I also really like their "real Chinese" food. Boy do I love me some tendon and tripe and everything else that little kids are grossed out about! Their prices are bit better than others I think. Bathroom is clean. Lady at the counter are a bit nicer than others in the area.

Ive been going to this location for 20 years! Im so glad that they decided not to move out of this shopping center and if they do I will follow. I always get the hunan chicken which is always cooked fresh when ordered. I am never disappointed. The priced have gone up over the years and I think it is under new management but the portion sizes always give me lunch for 2 days. I also love their fried cheese sticks. Yummy. Will be back as always.

Came here with my girlfriend. Food: 3 Price/Value: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 2 Food: 3 Got beef noodle soup and young chow fried rice. The beef noodle soup was okay. The fried rice was that type of food where it's not heavy and doesn't have too many spices, so you can just keep it eating it and eating it. Price/Value: 5 Portion sizes are crazy large! You get a lot of bang for your buck. Service: 3 It's more of a self-serve. You go up to the front and order, then pick it up and sit down. Atmosphere: 2 This restaurant is still going strong though the rest of the shopping center is a ghost town. This place does what it can - plays soothing Chinese instrumentals, keeps itself bright & clean. Tips You Should Know: You get a free can of soda or egg roll with a purchase of $15+, and more if you spend more. Would I recommend? If you're not willing to go to Wheaton and want to stay in Burtonsville, come here.

First the bad. The place was small, and I wasn't really too pleased with the staff there. Didn't seem very friendly. or interested at all. The good. The portions. Holy crap, the portions..I got a chow foon with wonton soup and fried rice. came out to like 12 dollars. The amount of food that I got was insane. So..much..food...It was also extremely hot. However, the taste wasn't what I expected. It was definitely edbile, but it didn't taste as good as other carry out places i've been to. I was willing to over look that. but the service and people working there really just didn't make me feel the place as much as I would have liked. The inside dining area is nice, but so hot. I feel like the AC wasn't on. I would go back again, but it's just because of the portion size, and the closeness of the place to my work.

Your slightly above average carry out spot in the middle of old Burtonsville. What sets Kim's apart from the rest is their consistency (unlike other spots , their menu and flavor remains the same. No surprises, no downsizing!) and their menu (its a mixture of classic takeout with some authentic favorites). Its such a shame that nothing else remains in Old Burtonsville , except a Starbucks maybe, but Kim's is holding on strong thanks to a dedicated foodie fan base and their apparent community outreach.

Basically your Avg Strip mall chinese carry out. Chinese menu is good. Pros: food is good, not great, but Good. Prices, reasonable. Not crowded Cons: BAD customer service, cashier is ALWAYS in a bad mood NO Air Conditioning or they Never turn it on, Best to take out. Napkins are as thin as rice paper. Used to be great when Bob owned it.... gone downhill since.

Kims is average. Its not the best but isn't the worst either. The sesame chicken is ok. My boyfriend orders this or the general tso chciken. I get the veggie lo mein or the shrimp and broccoli. The wings are good though and good if I'm feeling extra lazy about making dinner.

HA!!! I KNEW that Su K would have eaten here! Wouldn't cha know! Hey, to all the Kim's fans- they now have a "Regular" (same size as before), and a larger "Large" portion. That large portion is the same clamshell container as before, but now, all cubicles of the clamshell are filled with your primary order, and the rice comes separate in a soup-cup-bowl-y kind of thing. That is a LOT of food, guys. First of all, I've eaten here since I met my other half, 13 years ago. We always were fans, still are. Things to note tonight? Spectacularly large, and slightly spicier(than other restaurants), dumplings. These things are magnficent. We went with steamed, but have had fried before, and they're great too. I had the Kung Pao Chicken. Just the right amount of spice for me. You know it's great when you can tell for sure that they're not buying their food pre-made at Costco or some Chinese Restaurant Wholesaler in Seacaucus, NJ..... If they could just use real, washable plates and forks, and such for those of us who (whom?) dine in, it would be really pleasant. It MAY be why we don't have this great place on our regular rotation of restaurants. As it is, I sometimes feel like I have to eat as if I'm in elementary school, waiting for the lunch bell to ring again. Ah, but in elementary school (at least, at mine), we didn't have Chinese Elevator Music. Now, I like a LARGE varitey of music. I really do. So, it's hard to admit this to you, dear reader, but this music kind of does grow on you. Just don't stay there too long, or you'll start humming to the tune that is perhaps a vaguely familiar Lionel Ritchie song. "NUMBER 28? YOUR LOBOTOMY IS READY!!!!" The place is SPOTLESS (Yeah, I know, it's a recurring theme for me, but I'm big on clean). Sit down, enjoy, and remember- no humming..... Update 11/2013. Sign on entry says "Q. Are you moving? A. No". In other words, they're tired of being asked if they're moving. Why ask? The shopping center is D. E. A. D. Only three or so stores remain. I worry bout these nice people. The food's great, the staff so friendly, they deserve a better location.

I love Kim's Hunan. I grew up in the area and we used to get takeout there all the time after we rented movies at the Blockbuster (so yes, I've been eating their food for a long time!) I'm super depressed that the shopping center is such a ghost town since they moved the Giant across the street. I hope Kim's ventures across the street at some point instead of just going out of business. I'm vegetarian, so what I love are the broccoli with garlic sauce (sounds boring, but SO GOOD!!!), the eggplant with garlic sauce (nice fresh purple little eggplants!), and the vegetable lo mein (not too greasy). I ate in once instead of getting takeout. They had real plates and forks and I was kind of surprised. I was expecting to eat out of styrofoam. But even still, it's probably not really nice enough to eat in unless you're on your way to something and it's not convenient to take your food home to eat. Like it's clean and there is plenty of booth seating, there is just no ambience. So -1 star.

Kims Hunan, how I love you. There are literally a few things I order off of the menu that I order when I come here, but they never disappoint me. #1. Fried dumplings. Nice thick chewy dough, flavorful filing and a nice sweet soy dipping. It crushes the dumpling craving. #2. Fried rice, either combination or just shrimp. Its different from most fried rice you can order at just about any Chinese joint. The flavors are relatively light in comparison to other places ( I didn't like it much the first time I had it, but then I found myself suddenly craving it... a lot) I guess its one of those things you need to try, not finish, reheat and try it again and then maybe you'll see it how I see it. #3. The whole reason I'm writing this review. Their beef lo mein. Or combination lo mein, but w/ no chicken, just beef and shrimpy goodness. I add a little chili and stir... and I truly believe its the best lo mein I can find in the area. I've had it at many different places in the area, paul kee, full key, good fortune, new fortune, lee's kitchen and I still firmly to this day believe that Kim's Hunan stands at the top. They can get busy at times, other times you might be the only person there, but then you can see how timely they can make your food. I kid you not that one time I had ordered my usual lo mein, I had just barely sat down for at the most a couple of minutes before they handed me my food and I was on my merry way. I was not the only one there that day, but man, that was great. So if you haven't tried this place before and you don't know if its worth it, try the fried rice, or the lo mein, or both, and if you don't like either, drop it off at my house and I'll pay you for being a delivery person

my boyfriend eats the lemon chicken at least twice a week because he can't get himself to "mess with perfection" and try something else on the menu. While tagging along, I have tried many of the vegetarian options on the menu - my favorite so far being the honey sesame "chicken" - and I've loved each one! Another friend ordered chicken satay with peanut sauce the other day and loved it. There is not a better apple martini than the one they offer, its alcohol not too strong. Plus, the staff has always been very friendly and the food gets there so quickly!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
