i go to Van Gough Cafe nearly every day and they are great. i like to go to family run businesses that have a lot of "things that don't go together" instead of cold, corporate machines with no personality whatsoever. good quality products, kosher for those who need kosher, and friendly staff who just may be related to the owners and actually care about your order. Van Gough Cafe is exactly the kind of comfortable, eccentric coffee shop that the corporate shops would be if they cared more about atmosphere and their customers instead of their balance sheet and stock price.

I've been in a few times. The younger lady that works in the morning is a pretty good barista. I stopped in for lunch today and was really disappointed with my service. I ordered a pizza bagel and was really let down. I know what you are thinking how does a pizza bagel let anyone down? It was prepared in the microwave. Not sure if they realize that a) any bread that's cooked in a microwave becomes like rubber after it cools and b) it comes out nuclear hot. It took about 10 minutes for me to receive my food so I had some time to look around and noticed how filthy the dessert case was and even discovered a curly hair on top of one of the pies. Also the counter behind the bar was really dusty and cluttered. It just looked like the perfect environment to make a mouse happy. Next time I will save myself the 7 bucks and get my 12 year old to make me lunch. If I go back I will not eat anything that isn't prepackaged.

I went here for the first time this past Sunday, and was favorably impressed with this little shop. I had a mushroom and cheddar omelet on an everything bagel, and a bottle of Odwalla juice. $10 seems a tad pricey for a drink and bagel, but if the bagel is tasty I guess I'm ok with it. And the bagel was tasty. It had a whole lot more flavor than those at Daily Grind. The omelette, on the other hand, was only ok. It was really huge but lacked flavor. My advice would be to make the omelette smaller, and add more seasoning. A few earlier reviews said the store seemed dirty - it must have been a bad week or something. Everything seemed really clean, the cakes In the desert case looked fresh, and since I had read the Yelp reviews before I was definitely paying attention to that. Service was fast, polite, and while not chatty the girls seemed nice enough. I'm coming back to try more things - but definitely will get a bagel anytime I come in. Those things are tasty.

This is my new favorite coffee spot. I'll admit that I'm a bit of a breakfast snob in general.... But in my defense it's my favorite meal of the day! It's what molds your whole day! You need to start off on the right track and that, to me, means a delicious and filling breakfast as well as some great coffee... Van Gough Cafe offers just that. First of all, could the name be any more adorable? Van Gough on Gough Street? Too cute. It's right on my way to work so I'm able to pop in, get what I need, and go. The barista/owner is also so sweet. Everything is homemade from the pies to her soups. I haven't been there for lunch yet but I'm excited to try the soup and falafel...what coffee shop that you know has falafel? Not Starbucks, I'll tell you that much! I've started going 2-3 times a week and the coffee tastes great and is a good price. Try stopping by! It's centrally located and parking isn't too bad either.

I took my wife here for our second date. They have a great ambiance of small business in an up and coming neighborhood in the city. Food was great and they have comfortable sitting/lounging areas to read a book or work on a computer.

Not a great coffee shop but not bad, it's just kind of average. If you're in the neighborhood And need a coffee fix this is a good place. Guaranteed to have no line. The interior is very chill and relaxing. reminds me of my grandmothers house. The food is kind of pricey for what it is.

My headline: Kind of a let-down. Seems like a quiet and cozy spot to have a coffee and read a book, but the coffee and bagels were just decent. There's a random hodge-podge of food and premade (and packaged) items available. The baristas seemed surprised to have customers and it looked like the place needed a good scrubdown.

First, the good: it's cozy and local. The knish and quesadillas are pretty good. The eh: they didn't seem to be too happy about my LivingSocial coupon, which I presented before ordering as requested. My friends and I did end up ordering a decent amount and I tipped on the total, not discounted, amount. I just didn't feel comfortable with the experience. Other businesses with Groupon, LivingSoical deals haven't been disparaging in any way. The bad: a $6 sundae that came to the table already melted, messy, and without the promised Reese's pieces. Quality can definitely be better, particularly for that price (more expensive than Coldstone and Haagen Dazs!). The clump of peanut butter in the ice cream soup was honestly a bit gross. I understand that local places won't be as glitzy as chains, but some basic quality is still necessary - ice cream is hard to mess up!

As far as neighborhood cafés go this one is a winner. With it's cheap specialty coffees, bagels delivered fresh from Goldberg's of Pikesville, and hip decor this is a great stop in the morning or to get your work done. Pro/con it's kosher, leaving your desires unfulfilled Saturday mornings when it's closed.

All these people who say they is "nothing special" about this place are obviously missing the most important parts of a local coffee and bagel joint, so please allow me to attempt to open your sad angry eyeballs. The barista is incredibly nice and patient with customers, the tables outside are well shaded, plenty of parking and things to lock your bike up to, and the lox was ON POINT. Turn that frown upside down.

I love this place and am so happy to have a kosher restaurant in my neighborhood. It's hard to keep kosher in Baltimore city, you have to make far too many regular trips out to Pikesville. It's so nice to at least occasionally be able to get a nice kosher lunch in town. The food is remarkable considering the limited space and they most certainly have the only decent bagel in town. Staff is awesome. Coffee is great, totally comfortable place whether you keep kosher or not.

Very cute yet undiscovered cafe/coffee shop on the corner of Ann & Gough St in Fells point. This place is not a chain coffee shop. And the building has all original woodwork, so the place has charm and character. The prices are comparable to The Daily Grind (a fells point coffee institution! - which I love but crowded as hell and its just nice to have other options), blue house or Starbucks... no cheap stuff here. Although... you do get a FREE donut with the purchase of a Latte (which runs about $3). Regular cup of coffee is $1.60. They had a few options for food... lasagna, soup and salad. Fruit juices etc. Summary: Great spot to stop in, relax, do some work... YES they have FREE wi-fi! In I think its a really nice place thats is away from hustle and bustle of main street fells point. def worth checking out.

I live around the corner of the cafe and I was excited when it was opened, thinking that I don't have to go all the way down to the water and have a nice cup of latte anymore. However, although it is a nice little place, everything is overpriced. The cheapest sandwich is the peanut butter jelly sandwich and it costs about $4.25 (with a bag of chip, not coffee!). The owner is a nice lady but she needs some help in making the food and drink faster. It always takes about 25 minutes for everything to be set, it is quite time consuming when you are in a rush to go to school or work. Compare the cafe to other restaurants that are closer to the water with a nice city view, Van Gogh cafe's menu is overpriced, and the food and drink aren't better. Since it is situated in the center of the residential area of Upper Fells Point, it should attempt to provide a more friendly and neighborhood kind of products and services. Currently, I would still go to cafe such as Bonaparte and Starbucks to get coffee and bake goods because of my disappointment in Van Gogh cafe. I think if the owner makes the prices slightly lower than her competitors, she will get more business from the neighbors that way. Update: I recently learned that it costs a lot to maintain the kosher status of the restaurant, I can't say that make the food better but I understand a bit better why the menu is overpriced now.

Van Gough is a super-cute cafe! I keep kosher, but haven't always, and love that the atmosphere is more sophisticated than the average kosher place and you feel like you're a regular person. The coffees, mochas, and lattes are really good! I love to sit in the big comfy chairs and play games, or to sit outside and take in Fells Point. It's a great spot for relaxing and people watching. That being said, I wish that the menu had more choices. I'm gluten-free and dairy-free, and the menu leaves me longing for more. However, for someone without these allergies who loves dairy, it's a great spot.

a complete disaster of a birthday lunch for 8 girls. Made a reservation for 9 at 1:30 but they couldn't even manage 4 pizza bagels because there only 2 plain ones left. No soup nor knishes available. Ok. Frozen falafel balls and canned or instant sour humus. Quesadilla on whole wheat tortilla (not noted on menu). Tuna melt had about 2 spoonfuls of tuna. Each plate came out one at a time, every 10 minutes. I was told that this wasn't really a restaurant, just a cafe and that most of the business was in the morning. Why then accept a 1:30 lunch reservation for 9? what a disappointment.

This is my second visit here and I very well may become a regular. Coffee, food, WiFi, and different seating areas this is a perfect laid back atmosphere to enjoy a coffee and get some work done. It has been uncrowded each time and the staff are great. Food looks good as well but I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet.

Hidden gem for bagel lovers!!!! They get their bagels from Goldberg's in Pikesville, and they are absolutely delicious! I love how this little shop buys locally and it's great to have GOOD and FRESH bagels near my house. (THB has awesome bagels but are always way too crowded, I would much prefer to come here to avoid the lines, just a little tip!). However, since this is a kosher restaurant, no ham, sausage or bacon for sandwiches, I always just get cream cheese bagels. They also offer lox and omelets. However, this is where they loose a couple stars... I am a coffee fanatic and I am not impressed by the coffee here, I have had way way way better coffee elsewhere. Each time I get a latte and they are always just average, if not below average. Also, the set up is odd, you almost don't know where to order or where to pay, or if they leave your food/drinks on the counter? They have too many knick knacks for sale all over the place, it is very cluttered, they definitely need to streamline and clean the place up and make it a place people want to go to and hang out in, because there are a few places to sit and relax there. Service is extremely hit or miss! Last weekend I went and two girls were working, they did not communicate to each other. I placed my order with one of the girls, paid for my food, then I watched her check her phone, check the laptop on the counter, and fuss with stuff before even making my coffee... or bagel... while the other girl who didn't take my order was playing on her phone by the window. I was standing there staring at them wondering if they made it already, did they know I ordered something? What was happening? I already paid but it looked like no one was making anything... Get it together! The atmosphere and service needs a facelift for sure, but I go there for the bagels!

Not bad - right next door to my new pad. I tried to give it another shot recently but they weren't open on time. Personally I have trouble getting behind any breakfast spot that doesn't serve some form on Bacon.

This is the coffee place I'll stop if I don't have time to go any where else. A few times I've gone in and it seems like I'm interrupting the staff from doing something much better. I'll still probably stop by but it's not my favorite.

This is a fantastic little gem tucked away in the middle of a great neighborhood. The people are always pleasant and the food is always fresh and good. I love the comfy atmosphere and the outdoor seating on a nice day is most pleasant.

Imagine you love coffee shops so much an you've always wanted to run one so you pick up a game of Sim-Cafe. The game starts great, sure there's only a few customers but you have tons of capital! So you buy tons of random things that don't go together at all to try to appeal to a wider customer base. You kind of just put together your menu based on whatever machines you find lying around at second hand stores. Ice cream! Cake! Pizza! Why not! fun! And let's save money by having random extended family infrequently fill in as employees but never enough to learn how to do anything. This is going great, more customers, more items and you've saved all this money by buying stuff second hand and having your employees be your nieces. You're flying through level 1 and 2 of this game, you're gonna get the top score! Then an actual crowd enters the store and all your bonus points go to sht. Apparently all your savy saving methods have left you horribly unprepared for an actual crowd. There's an 11 year old working the register and taking orders who doesnt know half the menu and cant remember whose paid. Your income is now based on an honor system and an 11 year old. An iced coffee takes 20 minutes because the 4 orders in front of it span the bloated Menu and random things have to be dug out of the freezer, thawed, baked, blended, all one at a time because theres only so much equipment and a single employees whose made any of them before. Good bagels, but the store is kind of a mess.

I come here for the bagels, which are delicious. Prices are a bit high (although similar to other kosher spots), the service is often slow, and I find the set-up awkward and cluttered. Yet, the bagels keep me coming back. In nice weather the outdoor seats are nice, but otherwise it's take-out for me.

I come to Van Gogh for its quiet, comfy setting that is conducive to studying or reading a book. It's rarely crowded and has free wi-fi, so feel free to bring your laptop. The coffee is fine, although nothing special. The food is WAY too expensive for what you get, although vegans will love their dairy-free pizza bagels (made with Teese).

First off, the name of the restaurant is the Van Gough Cafe, not Van Gogh, afterall, it's on Gough st. Secondly, you need to appreciate the most unique feature of Van Gough in order to review it: they're kosher. As someone who doesn't adhere to any Kosher rules but has friends and family who do, it's really important to know that a place like this exists and is so convenient and cozy. Their food may be a bit pricey to some, but I think it actually falls right in line with the usual prices for kosher food. If you go here on a Saturday night you'll see a lot of people who are really grateful that they have a kosher restaurant to visit when the Sabbath is over. It's also a pretty quiet place that's good for working with their free wifi.

The coffee is nothing special. I got a mocha and the milk was scalded and the coffee stale. The atmosphere is okay. I got a grilled cheese sandwich for $7 -- a little overpriced if you ask me. The only thing special about this cafe is that it's kosher.

Aok. Went about 740 am. Was kinda empty. Very much a neighborhood place...tucked in on side streets. Family owned. Good coffee. Great bagels from Goldbergs. As people said, they are great. Some outdoor tables, indoor living room feel. Has lots of board games too. Doesn't have a lot of buzz but it's a nice corner cafe and glad we went.

Super cute inside with outdoor seating to people watch. When we went it was empty. It still took a while for the girl to make our drinks (coffee and iced tea) which was kind of suspect. But overall, it was a really relaxing experience here.

There's nothing special about the food or coffee. If you want a kosher cafe, here you go. There's no other reason someone would eat here.

The bagels are New York style and are amazing! I had an ice coffee and it was good as well. The lady working was very friendly.
