Pretty solid place to end a night. Came in here after bar hoping in Fed Hill, and I'm glad we ended here. They have slushies (that you can pour alcohol into) and that's pretty rad IMO. I didn't have a drink here, but I did have a good time. It's surprisingly big inside, so you can be comfortable with your friends.

This place sucks. A mediocre DJ, over-priced drinks, a FAR too crowded bar-space with a horribly cramped and awkwardly-shaped dance floor. The bar tenders acted like they were doing us a favor by selling us drinks. The bouncers were trying to come off like "tough guys" when really they were just a-holes who let far too many people in at a time. I saw management kick out a gay couple for no apparent reason (well, I guess gay dancing on the dance floor means you're too drunk in some communities). All of that on top of nothing unique to offer by way of drinks, decorum, or location (many bars to pick from), I refuse to ever patronize this location again.

Santa stalked Cross Street elvettes clad in red and white mini skirts and festive fishnetss falling down through Fed Hill at 5:00 on a Saturday. Wait, why are there multiple Santas and devoted beergoggle enhanced helpers weaving sideways hailing taxis this early in the evening? One comes to a screaching halt and a mandatory doubletake at the Stalking Horse. You press your nose to the plated glass like an orphan at Macys on the Miracle on 34th Street to witness a dubious holiday traditon. About 20 St Nicks are attempting to focus on the college games after imbibing for five hours straight at a raging Christmas party complete with mandatory costumes. Ho, ho, hic.

Stopped in for a daytime vacation yesterday (i.e. drinking in the afternoon - a guilty pleasure of summer I like to indulge in from time to time) and had the pleasure of copping a slushy that made me feel guilty and happy all at once. Between it (mango vodka and red bull) and the al fresco feeling thanks to the open garage door opening to the sidewalk, I felt like I was transported back to Wet Willy's in South Beach... only this time, I wasn't wearing a bikini under my dress and I was actively working on a laptop at the bar (No one said I wasn't a workaholic... I've set up shop at bars from here to DC and gotten plenty done amidst the weird stares darted in my direction). Little know fact - Stalking Horse has wi-fi. Bet you didn't know that now did you? Ask and they will give you the password. I am not going to share it here, of course, but you will get a little chuckle when you hear it. I had to drink and dash, so I can't speak to the food or the other drinks, but for the overall experience, the strong drink, fun summer slushy, the graciousness with getting me a drink and a check within 5 minutes of each other, and not laughing at me for being in a hurry, I would give the Stalking Horse a 4-star "I'm a fan" rating for sure!

The DJ plays the exact same songs every weekend and takes no requests. It's quite frustrating for those who live in Baltimore. It would be great if the dj took requests. Don't come here twice if you like hearing at least a couple of different tracts each weekend. No complaints otherwise.

The food is marginal at best. It took an hour just to get an appitizer . Then our ok meals come out with it at the same time . Will never return.

Good prices but I did not like the DJ. He was not very nice and would not take requests.

I'm originally from the Pittsburgh area and moved to the DC area last year.....I was in Baltimore visiting a friend and I went here for the first time this past weekend. I was severely disappointed. Although there were three floors, it was absolutely packed from wall to wall-meaning, I was strong armed by drunk people all night long. Everything was so loud and messy! It took forever to get a drink, although they were fairly priced. I would maybe recommend this place to anyone 23 and under....and I suppose it's my fault for agreeing to come here at the age of 27. The WORST part was, however, they had last call at 1:30am. Now, correct me if I'm wrong...but...Baltimore is supposed to be a decent sized city. All of the cities I have been to, small to big-last call is usually around maybe 1:50am or 1:55am even! They were physically pulling men by their shirts to the door. I'm talking drunk guys who were just seperated from their friends, or going up the stairs to close their tabs...they were putting their hands on them. They kept shouting "EVERYONE OUT" and it was, no lie, 1:45am. So how are you going to last call someone at 1:30 and give them 15 mins to finish an alcoholic drink? It was ridiculous.....I will never ever go there again!

This is a great place to hit up during the weekends no covers, inexpensive drinks, and a great party (on the second floor .

Cannot stand this place. Only way you're in is if you don't have a penis. I live right around the corner and have been here almost every weekend (not sure why I still come) and tonight I asked for a VIP card that essentially allows you to skip line outside and the bartender told me I was "a shitty customer" and that "I must pay extra for one". Really?! The damn cards are free and I bought a drink down stairs for myself and my girlfriend and I tipped plenty. Just fed up with the ridiculousness of this place and hate the wait. Great place to go if you have boobs otherwise go elsewhere.

I've been here a couple times and all I can say is frozen slushy drinks! The Raven is probably the best one, its purple of course! The other flavors are good too, they're pretty reasonably price. This music is good at night (never been during daylight) and there's 3 floors! The 2nd floor even has an outside part which is a pleasant surprise because it usually gets so packed in there you need some air. Problem is since it can get so packed, especially on the 2nd floor there can be a couple fights happening and theres so many people that security won't even see it. Being a girl, it can get scary sometimes! But it is a bar right? I'm sure I'll stumble back in here again on some random Fed Hill night ;) or to try the food!

Stalking Horse update: The newly added expansion last fall has added much needed room to the previously, packed like a sardine like feeling you could get on a Friday / Saturday night. On the ground level there is more area's to sit and relax, generally rock music is played on this floor in the past and seems to have stayed that way, unlike the second and third floors. With a newly added bar, and more dancing room on the second level you can help fight against the giant amount of crowds who would pack the second level's previous one bar on the entire dance floor. The outdoor patio is nice, the giant eye popping mural is pretty cool, but the smoking isn't. The third level stays the same and not affected by the expansion. Taps stay unchanged with the same amount of beers on tap, mixed drinks are average, and so is the pricing. Only based on the nightlife for my review, Stalking Horse has updated their property and still is one of the best, if not THE BEST bar in Federal Hill for nightlife / mix of people.

I stopped in for drinks one night & wasn't impressed with anything Stalking Horse had to offer. Music selection wasn't great, service was slow & the drinks were terrible! I had a really weak Margarita that tasted like water downed juice. Maybe it was an off night because I can't imagine people frequenting such a medicore establishment.

everyone i know comes here for one thing, and one thing only - alcoholic slushies. the best plan of action is to get there early pack in a little brain freeze and move on before the dance floor fills up.

Let's just get this out of the way now: it's a horrible night that brings me to the Stalking Horse. I hate being there. It's nothing personal, I am just not a Stalking Horse kind of guy. At all. In the slightest. The pulsing music, the wall-to-wall bodies, the popped collars, the stench of desperation. It's just not my scene. However, the Michigan State Alumni Association does their games there, and as an alum, I'll go every once in awhile. The specials that the Stalking Horse runs are phenomenal. Last night, I had four drinks (let's not judge...) and a pizza...for $14! Despite the fact that MSU lost, that it was about 4° in the bar, and you could hear the thumping bass from the second floor, the deal is hard to beat.

We went on Cinco de Mayo for drinks and a bite. Never Again! We should have left once we got there but we kept thinking it had to improve- it didn't!! On top of being dirty and having real slow service the prices are outrageous. Disregard the prices advertised because once the bill came the middle aged bartender got an attitude when I questioned why they advertised $4 Fireball shots but they charged $7 per shot. Oh tWith so many cool & fun places along Cross St this was a once and never again.

It's an ongoing joke in my house to never say the words "Stalking Horse" together. Stalking Horse is, as best described, "A bad frat party on steroids". Its crowded, has shoving people, I got physically pushed down by a guy before and ended up on the floor. Real nice patrons... I will say their slushies are good and cheap. But avoid this place like the plague any weekend - unless you're a college student looking to rage and take someone home. Like I said, every bad night I've had living here has started off with "Well, someone convinced us to stop in to Stalking Horse..." There are plenty of other bars that you can go dance at and still have a good time!

Federal Hill is best known for its bar scene, and there's no denying on a Friday or Saturday night that the streets are filled with young adults trying to get their 'drink on.' And it's not uncommon to see people waiting in line for around 20 minutes to get into one of the more popular bars, Stalking Horse. While I'm not a fan of Stalking Horse as a bar, I can say that they have pretty awesome pub grub. A friend and I were in the mood for some wings and other greasy food so we decided to get lunch at one of the bars. After strolling down cross street, we spotted the menu for Stalking Horse and more than a few things caught our eye so we decided to pop in. The main reason we went into Stalking Horse was for the Buffalo Chicken Eggrolls. Unfortunately, they did not deliver. The buffalo chicken was a little dry and bland, they needed significantly more hot sauce to give them more flavor. The next thing we ordered was the Boneless Wings. We chose the honey BBQ flavor which tasted like a traditional BBQ sauce. These were good, your traditional boneless wings. We also shared a basket of the Loaded Fries. Stalking Horse had many options and they each looked delicious (such as buffalo chicken fries) but we decided to go with the more traditional cheese and bacon fries and these were delicious. Sometimes places skimp on the cheese and bacon, or only cover the top layer of fries. But these had cheese and bacon everywhere and were delicious. A little bit on the salty side but overall we were satisfied with our order. Next time we head over to Stalking Horse for some pub grub, we want to try a bunch of other options on the menu. They had delicious sounding items like Doritos Nachos and a few other buffalo chicken things I wouldn't mind trying.

This place definitely has a college bar vibe I've heard it described as the "last stop of the night." It's a good place to dance and their frozen hurricanes were really good!

I wrote this review back in March... They have redone their kitchen since, but with the exception of the crabcakes, it all still applies. It was the night before the Ravens played the Steelers in Baltimore and I got a late start because my friend flew in town for it. I wanted to take him to Ryleigh's, because they have great food but they were already clearing the tables out to make way for the crowds. It must have been only about 10pm. I've drank at Magerk's many times and it was right there, so I said let's just go in and figure things out over a drink (that's when I do my best thinking). Turns out their kitchen is open late, hallelujah! We decide on the crab cake sliders since my Cali friend is obsessed with MD crab, and the Pizza, because I am "The Pizza Monster." I was skeptical of ordering the sliders since this place doesn't exactly scream fresh seafood, well fresh anything. I thought we're in MD, how bad could they be? The bartenders were your classic lackadaisical fed hill bartenders that were doing shots with each other and crackin' jokes, my kind of people. [Side note: They have redbull vodka in a daiquiri machine there, amazing. Can't wait for those come summer!] We got our food soon there after 2 rounds of drinks (the cups are small) and it rocked! I was so shocked, not at all what I was expecting. The crab cakes were REALLY good, and the pizza hit the spot. We did a few bombs, which the bartenders gladly joined us in on, and got our bill. My friend being the gentleman he is grabbed the tab from me but I noticed it was over $100. For the two of us?! That can't be right. The bartender like triple charged us for pizza or something but he fixed it when we told him and they gave us some shots on the house to make up for the mistake. Still, I expected it to be less. As the people poured in things got cramped and if we didn't luck out with the two bar stools, food would have been pretty impossible to eat. For the most part there were "pardon me's" and "my bad's" being thrown around, so I didn't mind. I'll remember Magerk's for the next time I forget to eat dinner on a big drinking night for sure!

Whenever I've been down in B-more this is the place that my friends and I hit up a few other bars. Every time I've been there its been a straight b-line upstairs to the dance floor so I am not one to comment on their food. Also, if this wasn't my end of the night, already been drinking, I'm ready to dance and have a good time bar I might knock it down to 3 stars because the drinks I've gotten there have lacked their proper booze allotment IMO. That said, what makes it the 4 stars is the music (hip hop,pop/dancing music), decent amount of space to move around (however it does get really crowded) and an overall good crowd of people just trying to have a good time. In closing...I've had a blast every time I've been there.

Stalking Horse has really stepped up their menu from typical bar food. We ended up here yesterday to watch the Raven's game. When it became time to eat I was ready to split. But my husband convinced me to at least check out the menu and I have to admit I was surprised. We ended up staying and eating there. I had the chicken salad wrap with a side salad. I wouldn't come here again just to order this but I had no complains either. One thing worth pointing out was the amount of chicken in my daughter's quesadilla. This thing was at least an inch tall and pack with chicken. Pleasant surprise. In general I found their menu to really have lots of healthy options on it.

I only ate here once and only for a moment with some friends while we waited for a nearby band to start playing. What I saw was pretty nice so I'll probably come back here in the future. It was pretty empty at the moment, which is understandable since an O's game was going on. Our server kept an eye on us, even if we had to flag her down from the back once. They also sent the wrong appetizer, but were quick to apologize and rectify that. The food was good, especially the Doritos Nachos. I swear, you can put Doritos in anything these days and it makes it that much better. Their bar is typical stock so you should find something you like, if you're not picky. I'll have to check them out again in the future, maybe on a busier night, to make a second opinion.

Very nice and like most places 3 floors. On the night my friends and I went there the second floor was packed. I liked the atmosphere, the staff was nice and the prices weren't too bad for being Fed Hill. Nobody was on the 3rd floor except a bartender and the DJ and the first floor had a nice crowd. But like I said the 2nd floor was the place to be. The music was jamming and the drinks were flowing and everybody was dancing. Will be a repeat customer.

Stalking Horse is a good place to go if you want to dance. It usually gets pretty crowded on Friday and Saturday nights (weekday nights not so much). There are two floors and the second floor is pretty spacious and has cool lights and a fog machine. The music is pretty decent - a good mix of current hits and throwbacks.

Awesome place for dancing. Came here on a Friday night and the whole upstairs was a bunch of 20 something's drinking and dancing. Usually I'm not into doing this as much as I was in college but it was fun! The dj was good, played a lot of today's hits and also some throw backs. Any place that has a light up ceiling above the dance floor and plays Backstreet Boys is a win in my book!

I came here on a Thursday night--which if you're a college senior in Baltimore, Thursday is the new Friday-- so the tables were cleared and the dance floor was filled with a young crowd dancing to top 40 songs. It's not really my thing but I was persuaded by my friends and I did have a fun time dancing and socializing. I was a bit disappointed in my slushie as I had heard great things! I had raspberry but it had too much ice and not enough flavor. Plus,I didn't know when I ordered it that there was no alcohol in it so that was a bummer. I think I'd like to come back and try Stalking Horse during the daytime perhaps or maybe another night but try an actual drink instead.

Where to begin. I started coming to this place in college to dance and have some drinks. They have changed a lot since then and some for the better, and others were no change at all. They have expanded which has helped the crowd. They have a nice outdoor patio on the second floor (don't let them catch you climbing on the lifesize horse statue though) which is nice for some fresh air in there because especially the second floor can get really stuffy! The bathroom on the second floor ALWAYS smells like pee and there is always a line, and its always 100 degreed and gross. Its great for a drunk night out and to dance but thats about it. ------------- On the other hand.... we went to the Stalking Horse last night for their 6 year anniversary party. I have never been there not to party and get wild... so I thought it was going to be great... nope not the case. So, I went with a friend and we got there early.... I was SHOCKED that the corner by the bathroom smelt like pee STILL.... it was 9PM on a Thursday night, and it smelled like they hadn't cleaned it all week. And going to the bathroom was another story... still 100 degrees, still smelt like piss and there was no toilet paper in one of the stalls (dont you restock everyday? Or at least CHECK?)... and by 10:30 it was starting to flood (which was also a common thing on a busy college night). SO GROSS especially bc I was in flip flops. I checked out the menu, and again, was shocked to see how expensive there food was, I asked the bartender if there was any food specials... his exact words were, "no because there is a Ravens game on".....????????????? what? Reality check!!!... Bars usually have specials FOR the Ravens game.... not the opposite. Needless to say I was quite disappointed. Will never go back here unless I am out with friends who want to dance... again thats the only thing this place is good for. Oh and we sat next to the slushie machine, what they are known for.... and there was a black lump that kept circling around in it... mixing all in the beverage... I don't know what it was... and who knows if they have ever emptied those things out to clean them.

I'm sad to say that the Stalking Horse has changed their entire menu, including the weekly specials. Not only do they no longer feature the $7 crab cake, but it's off the menu altogether. I'm pretty sure I would have paid anything for it at this point, but no can do. I'm not sure how a place with literally the best crab cake in Baltimore (in my humble opinion) can suddenly offer NO crab cake, but it's true. They also no longer their quesadillas which were my second favorite thing on the menu. I've tried a few things since the menu change, but nothing comes close to my every-Wednesday favorite. The bartender informed me that nearby Ropewalk uses the same "secret crab cake recipe" so I will be trying that....but as for Stalking Horse....neigh :(

Always had a fun time at Stalking Horse. Friday night Red Bull slushies are good. Young crowd mostly. Typical Fed Hill bar, just like Mothers and Mad River. Not a bad place to stop in any night.

    (4)
  • Jason F.

Decent place. The only thing really appealing are the vodka red bull slushies ($4) and the entire 2nd floor is devoted to dancing. The DJ however plays the same mix with corresponding music videos on the wall. The music is remixed billboard top 100 stuff. I do not think they have AC and even in the winter this place is a sauna and smells like vomit, either from the current night or the night before. The first floor is a little more typical where you can just hang out with friends and talk. Still a cluster fuck though. The third floor is more of a temporary escape from the cluster fuck of the 1st and 2nd floors and sometimes is not very crowded. Overall, this place is fun to hit up if you are bar hopping along Cross St. Never had the food as the place looks deserted during the day.

  • Laura D.

This place is a sports bar? Could've fooled me last Friday night... and I didn't I had that many redbull vodka slushies. I guess I did notice a tv or two above the bar. I was at Stalking Horse for drinking, dancing and general mayhem - great time! The music was great for dancing (hip hop, popular stuff, you can probably guess all the songs they played). And the bouncer was very reasonable when my friends were arguing about who slapped who first. P.S. They are guys. Other than the $4 slushy machine drinks, drinks weren't cheap. But I don't really expect them to be at a place like this. I'd never been out in Fed Hill before, but this seems like a fun place to go with a large group for drinking and dancing. And making out on the dance floor apparently. Note: The redbull vodkas are in fact slushies, so when you go to slurp your friend's entire drink in one gulp you will get brain freeze. As I did.

Went here over the weekend with the wife. 2-10-12 The wife and I wanted to go to pubdog next door but they were CRAZY busy so we walked next door. Decent looking place, nothing crazy nice to look at or any cool architectural things, just looks like a bar/restaurant. We sit down and are immediately served by a wonderful waitress who very willingly gave my wife a sample of a cider they had on tap. We ordered a few beers and food. I got the chicken parm sandwich and it was AWESOME, very good, a bit hard to hang on to physically but it was very very good and the waffle fries were money. the wife got the pizza and it was very good, not top notch but very good. Overall i would definitely recommend this place for good food and a good beer as they had good craft selections including brews from Heavy seas, dogfish and others. *side note - as the night progressed, the place looked more and more like a douchey bar.. so.. yeah beware of that.
