PJ's is a shithole. I'm only giving it 2 stars instead of 1, because they have a machine so you can play music, and because if you are really drunk and 18 years old, you can have a good time here. Also, they have some decent food options (taco tuesdays, etc). If you are of the legal age to drink - don't go, unless you want to pick up drunk 18 year old freshmen (not really my thing, but some guys might like that so go for it!). PJ's is a young hopkins bar through and through. If you want to be squished inbetween people, with drinks spilling on you, and young sorority screaming around you - you have found a great spot! Just be warned - don't go sober, and don't go if you aren't in college, at least not at night.

I used to come here before I went to work and grab a quick bite, and I do mean quick. You feel very old at 20-21 with all those freshmen(Not a Hopkins student). The typical pub fare. hit or miss on the tacos.Burgers are straight, cheesesteaks are wet(if you're into that...). would not be caught dead picking up chicks here....Period

i'm not the type to enjoy nightlife. but i do come here as many tuesdays as i can around dinnertime to enjoy their 75 cent fish, chicken, or beef tacos and 1 dollar steak tacos. They also offer a pair of coronas for 5.50 and a bucket of 5 for 12. the tacos were lukewarm at best, but it is amazingly cheap grub.

I'll never figure out the appeal of this place. The night life around Charles Village isn't the greatest, but there are still better bars than PJ's. I'd rather just have a few beers at my place than go here.

Aaaah good ol' PJ's...one of the few bars you could roll into for a study break. I had the pleasure of living on the 10th floor above this pub at the Charles Apts in my junior year. Good place for wings and beer. Interesting crowd...it was a safe haven for some locals, frat boys, and future doctors in the middle of one of the most murderous cities in America. Charles Village is undergoing huge change for the better now, as Hopkins is building and modernizing the whole place, thanks in part to my tuition money!

The scaffolding to the entrance preps you for the filthiness you'll encounter once you're actually inside PJ's. It's your average college hang out where everyone gets crazy drunk and eats horrible food. They have specials but don't really deliver: Instead of bringing out a pitcher of Killian's Red, they bring out Coors Light. The boys I was with were involved in a brawl outside this place with the JHU lacrosse players...that was interesting. Like Leme L., I'm also glad I wasn't ever shot in the dirt lot outside.

If you go to Hopkins you probably call PJ's your second home. I know kids who spend more time here then their own dorm room. Its a typical bar that is pretty tame most nights unless its a Friday or Saturday, but every odd-Sunday or Monday it can be packed. Also Tuesday after class is a popular time because its 2 for 1 Coronas. But, it can appear a little shady, maybe not the best place to take your parents when they come for to visit..

I don't think I've ever liked PJs, but it is what it is -- the only true college bar near JHU. Its dirty, the food is mediocre, but sometimes it is exactly right. Half price burger night (although they usually give them to you at lunch) isn't half bad, and they (amazingly) keep vegie burgers on the menu

PJ's, I wish I knew how to quit you. I'll start with the positive: your trivia is really fun. Let me say that up front - thumbs up for the trivia PJs. Your beer is really cheap. You are very close to campus for when a group of grad students need to drink their feelings as soon as possible, for as cheap as possible. Your staff is generally very friendly, good folks. These are all points in your favor. Now - for the other stuff. You have a pervasive smell of mildew, stale beer and god knows what else that hits me as soon as I walk in the door. Often flooded bathrooms. Menu items that arrive at the table without specified ingredients (ie "nachos" that were just chips and melted cheese). Menu items that are not fully heated from their originally frozen state. Once, undrinkable beer that even my least discerning friends struggled to choke down. You have beer pong, and I hate beer pong. You make me feel like an 80 year old curmudgeon, when I just turned 25. Why do I keep returning (albeit maybe twice a semester)? I think I need an intervention.

When I left Baltimore for the West Coast, I never - ever - thought that I would be Yelping PJ's, a student dive bar par excellence. But here I am, years later, reflecting on what this place meant to me. It was home. As hard as it is for me to put down roots anywhere, the North Baltimore neighborhood of Charles Village came as close as any place around to making me feel like a local. PJs is a landmark of the Charles Village scene. It's not a great place for beer, for food, or for atmosphere. It's just there, like a relative you don't exactly like spending time with but have learned to love over time. Begrudgingly, but inexorably, places like PJ's pub became a part of my Baltimore world. Do I regret this? Not for a minute. Even my liver agrees. I think of this now because a dear Yelping friend, Christopher H. of Reisterstown MD, would have loved this place. He and I might have come here and shared a drink or two, maybe three, snacking on cheap bar food, watching the Ravens or Orioles or Terrapins, and savoring the simple pleasures of socializing in a dark, slightly confining, uncomfortably loud atmosphere. We would have left with our ears ringing, our heads spinning, our clothes smoke-stained, and our voices more than a little sore from debating loudly the whole night long about random and esoteric subjects, all in a vain but valiant effort to be heard amidst the din on a disinterested, drunken crowd. And PJs would have made this happen. It is neutral territory. The staff DO know your name and the bartenders will serve you with a knowing smile that says, "Yep, we understand. Life sucks sometimes. But at least you can do something about it. You can come here and commiserate." Commiseration is an underappreciated art of living. It means that we show understanding for the lives and sufferings of others. It means that we too have been down that road before and are still struggling to get back on track. It means that stuff happens. It means that life can get complicated, And that, whatever hand the world has dealt you, at least you still have a beer to cry in. And there are friends to pat you on the back, make a bad joke, and urge you to move on. We will miss you, Christopher H. My connection to Baltimore will fade just a little bit more in your absence. Just your average college bar. Beer pong set up in back, tables for sitting and juke box for music. Bar tenders seemed friendly and decent prices. I think the special was $2 millers during summer weekends. Not too crowded, but again a summer. For a summer evening I'd recommend a stack of cards- I hear its pretty packed during school weeks.

on the weekends this is an excellent place for 18-25 year olds and die hard lacrosse fans going to a Hopkins lacrosse game. One of the few bars in the country where you'll hear terms like DLSM and NIH in a sentence on a friday night in april. However during the week it's a great local watering hole and the food is pretty good and incredibly inexpensive-they're catering to students. Taco night is pretty good and the pizzas are their best bet.

Go here if you're in undergrad, want to get drunk, don't care about the environment. Classic young bar ... they have nice fun nights of trivia. They actually have really good specials on drinks. 6$ pitcher of rolling rock for example. Just nice and simple ..random deals each day ..they have a sign outside or give them a call! Mon-thur they have set daily specials. Mon- .40 cent Wings The only special worth it. If you want cheap wings, go here. I got their naked wings with buffalo sauce .Wings are not small at all but not overly big. Just standard good wings. Good crust. I thought the buffalo sauce would be a standard franks hot sauce with some other stuff but surprisingly they put some effort into it. It was a different based hot sauce with some red chili flakes. It was pretty good actually. Pleasant surprise. Tuesday dollar tacos and half off burgers on another day are under par. ..pretty bad actually. Very plain ...store bought kind of stuff. Haven't had the cheesesteak special. Decent amount of big screens. Jerry (Gerry?) is the owner, he's really nice, knows alot about sports etc and will talk it up all night.

Bad food and, depending on when you go, lots of drunk, obnoxious college students. I suppose that's to be expected with what is essentially the go-to bar for the JHU undergrads there. Eating here at night is almost like paying to go eat a frat party. If you're a student, maybe it's a decent place to go. If not (or if you have a car), there are plenty of better bars out in Baltimore.
