Stopped in for a late breakfast on a Friday. The baristas were super friendly and helpful. They explained their drinks very well and were happy to give recommendations. My americano spilled a little and he gave me an extra shot for free to make up for it. And they brought our sandwiches to us on plates once they were done. We ended up ordering two breakfast sandwiches, an iced hazelnut latte, and an americano. Everything was pretty good. Was this the greatest latte I've ever had? No. But it was decent. I would def recommend stopping by. The friendly service, fresh goodies and good coffee make this a great addition to the neighborhood. I'm glad there are little businesses like this in Baltimore and especially right next to the park!

This place does the trick for me. -less than a block from my house -not too overly priced -the best homemade pastries -they deliver (although I've never done this bc that's just embarrassing to get delivery from less than a block away) -you can bring your pooch in with ya Now... This place is not fast. So don't plan on coming in and getting out quickly. Usually only one person working. And that person is making espresso and taking orders/cashing people out. Try out this neighborhood gem. I beg you!! Cause I want this place to stay so I don't have to give my money to the dreaded starbucks!

Perfect neighborhood spot for breakfast or lunch. Fresh bagels and perfect coffee. Make sure to get there early for sun dried tomato or jalapeño bagels- they are the best!

I have my concerns about the cleanliness at the Perk. The staff frequently handles money and food either without gloves, or without removing them between the cash and the food. I originally enjoyed stopping in for a coffee and a breakfast sandwich, but after I took a closer look at how the place operates, I just can't bring myself to go back. Good intentions, and low execution.

So far, sooooo good! I went to Patterson perk, as per my goal to visit new and exciting places throughout Baltimore, and was in for an excellent cup of Joe. Small neatly decorated row home, with seats, computers, books and a public bathroom. There was music, and though it was classical it didn't over whelm the sound waves, unlike certain Starbucks. I reviewed their menu online before my visit, and decided to return with a follow up review on the food and their baked goods. As for my first visit, drinks only. I wanted to compare the cappuccino's I have had around town and Patterson Perk is by far one of the best, authentic and less than $3.50 for a medium is averagely priced. And for the record, this drink gave me a caffeine rush, I haven't had one in almost a year from two red bulls; just saying! Check-em out they're an excellent local hangout worthy of anyone's first stop in the morning.

Came by for a breakfast coffee and ended up staying until early afternoon, getting lunch, etc. Great ambiance and Nick (sp?) did a great job hosting. Comfortable, local, clean, and service oriented...definitely will be back!

Cozy, small sandwich/coffee place. The baristas were all friendly and personable. I could definitely see myself coming here to get some light work done (the seating inside is mostly bars not tables) and when I want a rich breakfast (the Madame Baltimore is not messing around).

I come here all the time. It's a great cafe with outdoor seating. Great coffee, drinks, sandwiches and atmosphere. Everyone who works here is awesome. Highly recommend.

Remember the opening scene from 101 Dalmantions? Pongo's scanning potential matches for his pet (owner) and to land an equally attractive mate himself. "Too old. Too young. It was a problem, a real problem." Pongo was pretty picky, but even he'd be pleased with Patterson Perk. Sunday morning and this place is packed at 930am, 4-legged friends abound. The service is slow--3 people behind the counter if you're lucky. The place is small--seats 15 total, in and out. But the sandwiches are good-- 1) choose from 6-7 cheeses including brie and aged chedder 2) choose from 3-4 bread varieties including croissants. Perfect for a Sunday sandwich and park stroll or if you're Pongo looking for a mate

Great atmosphere, very eclectic place. The staff aren't very warm though. I've recently gotten really into the coffee and I was all excited this morning to get the peanut butter cup one but when I got there at 7:40 am, they were closed! This did not make for a good start to my morning and was a huge disappointment.

This is probably the tiniest coffee shop on earth, but I like it. Decent breakfast sandwiches. Good smoothies, average Chais, good coffee. They have a container of free doggie treats at the counter. Service has been pleasant but not overly friendly. I'll come back.

I figured I would write another review after my less than satisfactory review a month ago, to make everyone aware of any changes, be it positive or negative - things have gotten worse. My boss called in four times this morning to place his order, so that there was plenty of time to make his sandwich, so he could simply show up, pay, and leave. He called fifteen minutes ahead of time - each time he called, the phone goes to voicemail. When my boss arrives, the guy is in the back, unpacking boxes, rather than answering the phone, or returning the missed calls (he has called my boss back before, so you can see who called). Meanwhile, he now has to spend another fifteen minutes waiting for his sandwich, is now late for work, and on top of everything, they are out of coffee sleeves for the joe that he ordered, and was not given an extra cup to bear the heat. Bottom line - answer the phone - your clients are interested in buying from you. If you are getting so many orders that you can't, that is great news! Being busy is a good thing, but then hire another person.

Great food, great atmosphere, and free wifi. What more could you ask for? This place might become my new work station. The coffee is really great - goes down smooth and is fresh. Not too expensive either (2 bucks for a large)! My friend and I ordered sandwiches while we worked. We got the Turkie sandwich and the Madame Baltimore. Um....YUM! The turkey was thick-cut and savory. Lightly toasted and oh-so-tasty. I love anything with pesto, and this definitely satisfied my craving. The Madame Baltimore has so much delicious salmon. I liked Patterson Perk's take on bagels and lox. The fried egg on top seriously made the sandwich exceptional. Definitely worth a try, and a great place to get serious work done. Will definitely be back!

I want this place to be so much better than it is. Maybe it's the non friendly vibe I get from walking in. But a cup of warm joe from this joint is great. It's not bad food quality it's just the vibe you get from a place. Starbucks I hate but the service is much better. It's a neighborhood joint that I will continue to frequent but it could step it's friendly local vibe a bit better IMO

This is my go-to weekend spot for a java jolt and breakfast noms. Whether you're craving a cup of joe or a savory sammy, this place goes above and beyond in menu variety and fun twists on culinary classics. Patterson Perk offers any coffee concoction you could imagine, plus breakfast sandwiches that range from a traditional SEC/BEC to "The Madame Baltimore": a mouth-watering stack of smoked salmon, caper cream cheese, and a fried egg, all on top of wilted greens and multigrain toast. If you like bagels with lox and cream cheese, this sandwich is your new lover. Their caramel apple crumbcake is scrumptious, and their yogurt muffins hit the spot. As other reviews mention, the venue is cozy to the point of being bite-size, but with the smart layout, friendly staff, and plethora of free reading material, The Perk wins a full 4 stars.

Stopped here for our Sunday morning coffee. We were more than happy with our espresso and cappuccino. There isn't a lot of seating inside, but there weren't many people staying with their coffee so we had a nice spot to sip our drinks and look through a France travel guide from 1999. We'll definitely be back!

My go to coffee shop! It's around the corner from my house and the coffee is great. Not to mention they allow dogs in and have dog treats all the time. Of the sandwiches I've only had the Italian egg which was very good. Thanks Patterson perk for being a great neighborhood coffee shop!

terrible. we were the only ones in here at first ordering an iced coffee and a cappucinno. others came in afterwards and our barista left the half made cappuccino to wait on them - completing their order before ours (theirs even involved food!) the coffee was undrinkable. the cappuccino was nothing more than luke-warm steamed milk and the ice coffee tasted about a week old. there was also no half and half on a sunday morning. what!? slim pickins around this area. i think someone needs to open up a coffee shop with more serious baristas that serve more serious coffee.

I've been here many times... and just realized I've never yelped it. Shame on me. Especially because they have really good coffee! :) I'm a fan! I enjoy the small space because I feel lucky to find a seat at the bar, but if it's too crowded, I leave. Not because I don't want coffee and goodies, mostly because it's claustrophobic if more than 5 people are inside. That's probably my only complaint. I'll be going again! This is a great spot if you're walking your dog and suddenly have an urge for quality beverages! Two thumbs up!

Awesome and friendly service from arguably the cutest barista in town (still in her pjs of course) Delicious mega fresh brewed coffee and delicious bagels and muffins I love the tiny corner barista feel, and it's super dog friendly so bring your four legged friend!

Contrary to some of the other reviewers, I've always had good experiences at Patterson Perk. The location's prime, just across the street from Patterson Park (to the South), thus the name. Can anyone say Central Perk from Friends? :) True, the service can be a bit slow--each time I've been in Patterson Perk there's only been one employee, and things can get backed up when he/she is trying to make lattes, breakfast sandwiches, chat with the clients, etc. I've found all of the employees to be quite friendly, as are the other clients. Personally, I've only had drip coffee here, but my boyfriend has ordered the pastries and breakfast sandwiches and has been pleased with everything. It's not gourmet, but it's also not bank-breaking. And finally, I've always taken my orders to go, as the place is quite small, and there's only room for a few people to relax inside. I'm looking forward to warmer weather and plan to take my cup of joe to go and relax in the park. As Alex S. mentioned, the $5 credit card minimum has been an issue for me before, and I ended up buying a soda for later in the day and leaving a little bit as a tip to total $5. Not ideal, but I did enjoy the soda that afternoon. My dog also enjoys when we walk to the Perk--they have free dog treats at the counter for their four-legged friends.

I go to Patterson Perk very frequently. It's bright, has a good selection of sandwiches, is decently priced, and has comfortable seating. I really love the staff who all helped suggest places to go when I just moved to Baltimore. Not an ideal place to study however. It can get very crowded and the wifi is very shoddy.

Love this place! Fantastic place to grab a coffee and head out into the park. Great funky little spot for the neighborhood!

Patterson Perk is a little peanut of a coffee shop, but what it lacks in size, it definitely makes up for in divinely delicious beverages and sandwiches - namely the CORE SANDWICH!! Over the course of about five hours or working there, I had the pleasure of going from breakfast to lunch, starting with a bacon, egg, and mushroom breakfast sandwich on multi-grain bread and a Nutella hot chocolate. While the breakfast sandwich was just ok, the Nutella hot chocolate was a lovely pick me up. The real show happened at lunch though, when two items changed my life forever: the Core Sandwich (toasted panini with apple slices, cheddar, and bacon) and the Dark Chocolate Cherry Latte. I could not BELIEVE how good they were. Seriously! I only ordered the Core Sandwich because it sounded so unique and I truly don't even want to remember a time when it wasn't in my life now. AMAZING!!!!!!!!! And the dark chocolate cherry latte tasted exactly how it sounds. It was like sipping on a not-as-sweet dessert version of the real thing. I couldn't even believe that they found a way to transfer the flavor into liquid form. The guy who was working there was super duper friendly and didn't judge me for putting away two sandwiches within an hour of each other. No - he just looked at me with understanding like "I totally get it. This ish is good, isn't it?!" You bet your bottom dollar. My absolute only complaint about Patterson Perk is that it is soooo small. In fact, if you are sitting anywhere in the cafe, it means that you are liking sitting right on top of someone else. All the seats are clustered so you wind up dining with strangers whether or not you want to. That won't stop me from coming back though. Even if it's just to get my meal to go, I will definitely be back. And, if I am lucky enough to get a seat and in the mood to deal with be uber close to folks, I might even stick around. The coziness of the space isn't bad as long as I am the one who is staying there longer than my coffee-loving neighbors :)

Go "Perk" up your day at Patterson Perk there is no doubt that this place has some perks to it. For one the location is great since there aren't many coffee shops around the Park if you need a java pick me up after a morning exercise or a leisurely stroll. They have free Wifi, the staff is awesome, and it's very cozy with a couch, some chairs, and a bit of cool quirky decor. I had the Peanut Butter cup coffee, I recommend trying it because it is incredible, almost like drinking a warmed up Reese's PB cup. There are a lot of other flavors that are outstanding, but this one put some extra step in my day. Oh and how could I forget to mention the muffins they too are amazing, a lot of flavor packed into a fluffy moist breakfast snack. Don't worry you won't have to break you bank for breakfast, this place is fairly priced so you can keep coming back for your daily dose of caffeine.

Never had a bad visit here. Coffee is spot on. It doesn't have any bells and whistles or any crazy gimmick but one can always get a good cuppa here. Free wi-fi and a comfy couch to sink into. The space is small though so it can't accommodate a lot of people but I've never seen the place at an uncomfortable capacity. $5 minimum on credit card orders, just so ya know. Grab a cup and go sit in the park on a sunny day and watch the world go by.

High hopes for this place and even went into it with a chuckle over the creative catchy name but alas I cannot recommend it. I got a tall black iced coffee and a lemon poppy muffin. The muffin was dry and just not that good which is hard to do when you are a coffee shop which basically has a free pass to fill baked goods with butter and sugar since you don't post the nutritional info. The coffee just wasn't that good in my opinion. Tasted a little burnt and must have been put in the cup warm cause the ice had all melted before I made it out the door. Also, the guy in front of me was getting a break fast sandwich with bacon and eggs. I am not a germafob or anything but the lady was making it sans gloves and was handling the dudes bacon right after she rang me up. Just seems a little unsanitary after touching my credit card and the cash register. One last thing. They have a five dollar credit card minimum. I understand why places do this (especially smaller businesses) but credit card minimums are always a pain in the ass for someone like me who never carries cash.

Stop by if you're in the neighborhood, for the caramels if nothing else. Patterson Perk is a comfortable little place where you can settle down for a little bit while you enjoy your coffee and caramels -- a killer combination. I'd also recommend the marble cake and/or -- no, definitely and -- a toasted sesame bagel with butter (a quite generous amount!). All in one visit. Yeah. Why not. A friendlier/warmer/more inviting vibe at the counter would be a plus.

This place is OK as far as coffee places go. I've been here a few times now and overall enjoyed it. The one thing I'm confused on is the sweetening of the latte's. The first time I went, my latte was sweetened and the subsequent two times it was not so I was a bit thrown off by that. The mochas I've had were good though. On the other hand, the Pumpkin Spice Latte I had was literally disgusting. Almost undrinkable... I sweetened it up a lot and somehow got it down but a waste of money. Breakfast sandwiches are good here and it's a good place to walk to when I'm walking through the park.

They make cappuccinos the right way, and they are tasty. Muffins are good as well. Don't order your breakfast sandwich on a croissant though because they'll burn the hell out of it.

Ok so I've only been there once, but here are my observations from that single experience. Service - The service is friendly but extremely slow. Even if you're the only one in the shop. Sure placing an order is quick, but be prepared to wait 5 minutes for a chai latte or 20 minutes for a sandwich. That's a little ridiculous in my book. Food - I ordered their pesto tuna melt, which took a good 20 minutes to come out. The pesto tuna was good, but I was a little shocked by the lack of cheese in the tuna "melt." What's a tuna melt without cheese? A tuna *sandwich.* Oh yea, and there was a HAIR on my sandwich. Nasty. (Didn't complain though, since it would take another 20 minutes for a fresh sandwich to come out.) Atmosphere - So I could imagine this place being really great for studying, but on the fateful afternoon of my visit, several female employees decided to gab REALLY LOUDLY about their dating lives and whatnot. I'm cool with employees chatting privately during a slow hour, but keep your conversation private people. Their behavior indicated to me that management does not sufficiently prioritize the comfort of their customers. Will I be back? Probably. It's a cute shop with a good menu and fast wifi, and there really aren't any other coffee shops around Butcher's Hill/Patterson Park unfortunately. PS. In response to johnson W.'s review, they actually asked me whether I had a pine nut allergy when i ordered the pesto tuna melt. Maybe they're actually starting to care about these things?

Excellent little coffee shop. There Perk Melt is soo good. Special cheese and they use an entire can of Tuna. The man behind the counter is very friendly as well.

I enjoyed the coffee although my hubby said his was so, so. The Nutella hot chocolate was a hit for our 14 year old. The sandwiches on croissants were good and the cheese panini would have been better with butter not margarine on the bread.

Always a good time at Patterson Perk. It's a comfy little spot with a great atmosphere, fantastic coffee and munchables, and an adorable mascot in Barracuda the chihuahua. It's places like this that really make me miss living in Canton (along with the defunct/reopened Red House Tavern and Sip and BIte). It really one of the only reasons I loved my time living in Baltimore.

  • Lynne P.

Now that Patterson Perk has free wifi they have everything. Good coffee, decent pastry, cozy indoor seating, tables outside with a view of the park, and they're dog friendly. (That doesn't mean they want you to come in and camp out with your dog--that's how eating establishments get closed down.) The staff does not appear to drink too much coffee; they are not perky in the least, and I appreciate that early in the AM. But the best part of Patterson Perk is their bathroom. It's like the Lamborghini of bathrooms, a bathroom designed by someone who'd never been in a bathroom before. Worth the trip all by itself.

  • caitlin p.

There are 4 seats in the coffee "house" and I studied on a rickety plastic table until giving up. My chai was good, people were friendly but the neighborhood just stopped in for a cuppa then peaced out since there's hardly anywhere to stand.
