Thank you Yelp! Visiting Baltimore and my oldest wanted some Spanish food - you know - rice and beans, plantains, shredded beef and the list goes on and on. So we step into El Merengue and it is just delicious! You can tell there's love in the food.

This is what I call a yelp-tweener. I was stuck between 3 and 4 stars but for a Dominican Place which is clearly all authentic I gave it the bump up. I only went there because they had mofongo on the menu....if you aren't familiar it is smashed plantains and usually a meat (chicken, pork, shrimp). The mofongo itself was really good but the pork was a little dry and salty. I also ordered an orange "country club" which was really just Hispanic sugar water (46g in one bottle). The owner/manager was extremely nice and helpful with our order, she really cared if we enjoyed our experience. We definitely were the only gringos in the place but it was fun to have a great ethnic experience!

Nice place in Baltimore. I had rice, beans, tostones and chicharrones. The food was good, the portions were decent, service was great and luckily I found parking off the street right away. The tostones (fried plantains) were amazing! I'd go back just for the tostones.

Good spot to come if you are craving a Lil mofongito.. haha. U wouldn't say it's the best place in life. But Def a good spot to just stop by on the last minute tip. Service was good when I went. I had no issues. My belly is full!

I had planned on going to nyc to get some chicharron (yes it's that serious) but we stumbled upon this place. Like everyone has said, the owner is beyond nice. The food was just as pleasant. It was a very homey field. I have no complaints... I will be back.. Probably this week. Btw, We had to carne (beef stew) and white rice, chicharron and rice and beans.. A+++

I am so happy to have found a Dominican restaurant in Baltimore! We stopped by for breakfast and had a delicious platter of mangu, eggs (fried hard and awesome), salami, queso frito (fried cheese) and a big ol' glass of passion fruit juice. The meal, the waitress, the space, everything was perfect. Sometimes you just want a place to grab a quick bite that offers friendly service and delicious food. Merengue Restaurant is it!. I'm coming back to try other choices like the mofongo . Can't wait!

I found this place on a humble looking for some unique places to eat. When I saw that they serve Mofongo I had to try it. I had this dish in Puerto Rico and I was in love. This place has a great vibe teeming with local Latins from different regions all here to enjoy authentic Latin food. The mofongo was dry and had no sauce served with it. But it was very flavorful. The shrimp could have been bigger and seasoned better for they were bland, for the price of $13. The parcha juice was delicious. Reminds me of a pina colada with orange juice instead of pineapple juice. The owner was very nice and attentive. I enjoyed this place.
