Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Location offered a lot of promise, but the food was okay. Ordered the black bean soup and a burger, and shared a plate of the fried pickles. Expected just a little more from everything. I may stop back to give the place another chance, as it offers a wide beer selection from the cooler.

I have eaten here for many years it started changing about a year ago. The food was always ok before. But three times in the last year we had lots of problems with out food. The pizza was burnt badly and so were our burgers. It is not the servers as they are trying but the kitchen. No sense sending it back as you one just feels the same would return. The servers clearly know there are problems. I will not return as three in a row is enough. We would come because it was convenient with out family. Maybe it will get better.

Can you say Prix Fixe menu Wednesday?! 3 course prix fixe menu for only $19.99 every wednesday night at Alonso's. The 3 items i ordered was the shrimp fried rice (savory and brimming with large shrimp), The steak and potatoes (which was served pulled pork style over a plush bed of whipped creamy potatoes and gravy) & the carrot cake (tasted like it was made with aunties own hands). This was another large group setting I was in. No one had any complaints and the portions was awesome. I'd recommend the nacho, the salmon half salad, the prince edward island mussels and of course the Prix Fixe menu.

Came here using a groupon. Have literally rode by for years and never stopped. Surprise! Everything was good. They have a LONG list of burgers. I was overwhelmed, which is hard for me when it comes to food. Fajitas were good, chicken was seasoned well. Rice was a little dry. Thai chili sauce Burger was good. Grilled veggies were just right. Margarita was good also. Service was pretty good. Drinks were decent...would I return..yes. I actually have, we went twice in a week. They have a special on Mondays for burgers I have to return to check it out. Not sure why this place has low reviews. Yelp is usually spot on. Maybe they have changed up some things here, buy I look forward to returning.

Came here a few weeks ago....very confused by the whole Alonso's/Loco Hombre thing. My friend and I sat on the Loco Hombre side and started off with the chips, salsa, and guacamole. Guacamole was ok, not fantastic. The salsa had 3 different kinds (the green one was my favorite, while the corn one was somewhat borderline spoiled?). Chips also weren't salty enough so we had to add salt! It was a Monday evening, so we went with the burger special. I had the Godfather burger with proscuitto, roasted red pepper, minced garlic, provolone. The proscuitto was really thick, and the roasted red pepper was cold :( The burger itself was really well cooked and flavorful. Probably won't be back though.

I really hate having to give places only one star, but after reading other reviews, it isn't that hard since the majority of other reviewers seem to agree. I attribute this to the unique mix of awful waitstaff, underwhelming food, confused menu, overpriced food, and the indignant and adversarial management of the restaurant. I really wish I had read the multitude of one and two-star reviews before agreeing to meet friends there tonight. We ended up all ordering burgers (5 total) which we thought were $5 off on Monday nights. They were all mediocre, but pretty skimpy. We were later told only the one-pound burgers were $5 off, which is funny because we would have received more burger for less money with that option. We pointed this out and the waiter got snappy. I'm not quick to blame staff, so we asked if perhaps the manager could charge us for the one-pound burgers even though we only had the half-pound burgers, because it would save us money. We had in fact announced we were there for the special and the waiter didn't bother telling us that ordering larger burgers would be cheaper. He came back and said the manager said no, they are not allowed to tell people the specials since they are written at the door. WTF? Surely this couldn't be right, so I went to the manager myself to see if she would try to tell me this with a straight face since it was obviously a shifting defense to get us out the door. She told me it was our fault and her policy is that they will not tell people the daily specials, since they are written. How would you tell a blind person that? She started arguing with me and had more of an interest in being self righteous than even attempting to talk to me like a human being. I know managers like this, and it's clearly reflected by a series of one and two-star reviews on every review site. So peace, Alfonsos/ Loco Hombre, whatever your name is. See you never, because this place stinks and they don't care. They just want to be jerks to everyone.

I am usually very satisfied with loco hombre and Alonso's and they usually have very good food. However, my last experience was very unpleasant. I waited over 40 minutes for my food and ended up getting it to go. Once the bill came I realized , I was charged 8$ for a small side of sweet potato French fries. I also ordered a burger with fries and the fries came out extremely uncooked. The waiter was attentive, it was just frustrating that it took so long for our food to come. I live very close by in Roland park and will probably wait a while until I return again. Not worth the expensive price.

I can deal with mediocre food, but not rude staff and mediocre food. Ate on the Loco Hombre side (instead of Alonso's) for the first time on Friday night. I called ahead to see if there was any wait and I was told by a woman who picked up the phone there wasn't. Even if there was, I was willing to wait so I didn't ask for a reservation. I arrived with one other person and noticed that the Alonso's side was quite busy. I had eaten at Alonso's before and their pasta was great, so our intention was to eat off of the Alonso's menu. Before I could say anything, the hostess (a young lady with glasses) took us over to the Loco Hombre side. She sat us down at a table with the pull out chairs and I politely asked her if we could sit in a booth. My dad has back problems so the chairs would've been uncomfortable. She didn't say anything, obviously seemed annoyed by my request because of the sour look on her face, and sat us down in a corner booth. She handed us the menu (mind you, didn't give us a drink menu or ask us if we wanted a drink menu--the table next to us had to ask us to borrow the one the waitress got for us because she had also forgotten to give one to them) and walked away. I looked down at the menu and noticed that it was just the Loco Hombre menu and didn't have the pasta Alonso's offered. Fair enough, I had assumed because the Alonso's side was full she just sat us over on the other side so I walked back to the hostess station with the intention of politely asking her if we could either have the Alonso's menu or wait for a table on the Alonso's side. When I approached the hostess, she told me that it wasn't possible to have the Alonso's menu and that it was basically the same thing minus the pasta. I explained to her that I enjoyed the pasta last time and that's really why I was there. She said it wasn't possible to have that menu on the Loco Hombre side. Okay fine, policy is policy. Before I could ask her if I could just wait for a table for Alonso's, she tells me "We get full Friday nights so maybe you could make a reservation in the future." She also said that all their tables at Alonsos were full, and made it seem like there was absolute no way I could sit there since all the tables were full. It was weird and uncomfortable because I felt like I had to keep talking to her to convince her to seat me at the restaraunt I wanted to eat in to begin with. At this point, I realized that this girl had no intention on hearing me out or even kindly offering me to wait for a table at Alonso's (which any well-trained and not rude host would've done and I was more than willing to wait for). So I politely told her that maybe it would be a good idea in the future to ask people when they come in where they would like to sit or eat because it is confusing. She just had seated us at Loco Hombre. She just agreed and didn't say anything else. Would've been nice to be offered to wait or to ask what she could do, since it was clear that I didn't want to eat at Loco Hombre. Mind you, I had a groupon so I stayed so I could use it and not waste my money. The food was okay, but if you order an appetizer cheese dip you only get four small tortilla and have to pay for extra. Pizza was okay and the crab avocado salad was a bit small for $15. I felt forced to eat at Loco Hombre on a menu that I didn't want and I felt uncomfortable even talking to this girl. She was awkward and didn't seem open to helping patrons out--especially ones that are being polite and just want to eat. I didn't want to make a scene so I just ended the conversation. Thought about reaching out to the manager but honestly, I don't even feel motivated to do that based on the rest of the reviews on here. The waitress was nice but the interaction with the hostess pretty much sealed the deal for me--not returning there again. Loco Hombre/Alonso's need to hire better staff that actually want to help reasonable patrons with reasonable requests. Never again.

FYI loco hombre is closed. What a big disappointment My boyfriend and I had a taste for Mexican food and we live about 2mikes from the restaurant. It is SHUT DOWN people. So now we were subject to eat at Alonso's which is a basic ass eat in with basic ass food. We should of just left but we paid the price. Loco Hombre is going to be an upcoming Indian spot .

I wish this could be a fun foodie post with some lovely dishes to talk about, but this is quite the opposite. I'm not one to complain much in life, but I just felt like this situation was completely ridiculous! Loco Hombre/Alonso's has been part of a family tradition for years after going to see the lights in Hampden with my cousins and grandmother. We always make this stop after the lights to celebrate my grandmother's birthday and she is 86 this year! We always have great service and a great time laughing over a pitcher of sangria. Unfortunately, we will not be going back to Loco Hombre ever again. To start off, our waitress was not super warm and fuzzy, and she forgot the lemons for our water, but we could get past that. We can even get past mistakes in the kitchen, but the way it was handled by management was completely inexcusable. Where to even begin. My mussels were all undercooked with at least five unopened and the rest were all slimy and gelatinous. I think I had maybe two that looked like the normal, firm texture. My sister Colleen ordered a veggie burrito, but received a chicken burrito. My grandma ordered a burger that was supposed to be medium well and it came out super well done and looked like a hockey puck from Dick's. Her fries we soggy and greasy so she asked for mashed potatoes, which they were happy to bring out. I must say they were pretty good and probably were the silver lining of our meal. My cousin Wendy got some tacos and the refried beans we really dry (she described the texture as dog food) and the rice was crunchy and undercooked and she almost chipped a tooth on it. My other sister Caitlin and my cousin Lindsay split a burger that was supposed to be medium and came out totally rare. I used to work as a waitress, so I can understand a waitress having an off night or the kitchen making mistakes. But when we brought these issues to a manager's attention, she decided to have an argument with us. What happened to old-fashioned customer service? Or the premise that the customer is always right? She tried to tell me that as soon as mussels open they are considered done so there was nothing she could do about that. They remade Colleen's burrito, but only after poking it and inspecting it in front of her to make sure she was telling the truth and she had to sit without any food for a while. Basic rule of serving, offer them soup or crackers while you fix your own mistake!! All in all the manager just discounted my grandma's burger 50%and said that she tested it and it was soft in the middle? What does that even mean?! They should have only made us pay 10% of the bill because that is all that we ate! There were two managers talking with us at one point, both of which were adversarial towards us. One of whom we referred to as "the passive aggressive hipster" and has since gotten a sushi roll named after her that stole the show at my aunt's annual soup and sushi party. Before we left, we made a stop at the bathroom, which of course was out of toilet paper. I proceeded to use paper towels in hopes of clogging their toilet as a parting gift. On the ride home, my cousin and sister got the "bubble guts." We stopped at McDonald's since a bunch of us had to use the bathroom. Since none of us had really eaten dinner, I asked if anyone wanted anything. For the first time in my life, McDonald's food actually sounded like a good idea compared to the trash loco hombre tried to feed us. That's how horrible this experience was. My grandma has never been one to complain, but she said later that in 86 years she has never had worse service than this. I think the truth had to be told and I felt a moral obligation to make sure that this atrocity never happens to anyone else again. The funniest part is that Colleen wrote a nasty review on yelp and was contacted by the general manager today asking us to come in and eat for free!! Never again! So GM of Loco Hombre, if you ever find this, we would like complete refund though so we can go out somewhere else and try to give my grandma an acceptable birthday dinner.

I can't remember the last time I was this disappointed in the meal. I entered the restaurant in a great mood and very hungry. I left 90 minutes later in a terrible mood and even more hungry. Took 25 minutes to get our appetizer, A simple crab pretzel. We continued to wait for our entrée while watching others being served around us. We had ordered steak and shrimp fajitas after asking the waitress several times to check on our food my date went and had the manager go back into the kitchen. She told us it was being played right now. It was served through several minutes later ice cold one" soft taco shells I begged for my check. We left and went next-door to Subway. Avoid this restaurant at all costs the crab pretzel was very nice though

The steak quesadilla is out of this world bursting with delicious pulled steak. The chesapeake bay wings and buffalo wings are delicious. One of my favorites in Baltimore.

We went there late afternoon so it is not like the place was packed. The waitress spilt water on our nephew and barely apologized. The waitress did not want to have to do much with us, it was almost like she would rather be left alone to watch the tv. She forgot the salad which was a part of the order but did not bring it till we we were almost done and simply asked "so you still want it?" No apologies for having forgotten the food. The food was okay, nothing special. A little over priced for the quality if the food. I used to go to this place a few years ago for the happy hour but stopped since we moved away. We decided to give it a shot when we saw the groupon but never again. I would be surprised this place will stay open too long given the average food and a terrible wait staff.

Well, I tried to give Loco Hombre another chance and they failed miserably. The wait time for Food was terribly long, it took way too long to get refills on drinks. I had to ask my server two or three times for something before he finally got it for me. We ordered two burgers, both medium. My burger was well done and missing the toppings. When I told my server about the toppings (I didn't want to wait for a new burger, but over than under to me) he told me the toppings were under the cheese. No, he didn't say I'm sorry let me fix that, no he told me to look under the cheese and guess what, no toppings! It was a one pound burger how could the toppings hide under the little slice of cheese?!? Anyway, my husband's burger was so raw it was blue. At that point we were fed up. This was the second time this restaurant has been completely off -- once is a fluke but twice is a major problem! We asked to speak to the manager and she was the same manager who comped our meal last time. She seemed indifferent to our issues and just quickly said it didn't seem like a big deal to her...they fixed my burger quickly and my husbands burger was medium rare so it's ok.... What she fails to realize or maybe doesn't care, is that I shouldn't be experiencing any issues. Most restaurants, you order your food, you get what you order, you pay, tip and leave satisfied. It's now two times I've been to Loco Hombre and haven't been able to enjoy my food or the experience. Yes, the meal was comped for a second time, but, like I tried to explain to her, it's not about comping the meal. I didn't come for a free meal. I wanted to patronize the restaurant and see how they really were since my last experience didn't initially go well but the food was good. Unfortunately, they don't have their act together, neither back or front of the house. Even with free meals, I won't be coming back again. I really wanted to like this place but they have some serious issues to work through. It's sad.

DO NOT RECOMMEND! The service was incredibly slow. It took almost an hour to get our food from the time we ordered it when it was not at all crowded. The pizza was stale and tasteless. The burger was dry and did not taste fresh. This is a great location! We need a good restaurant to move in here or remake this sad place!

Worst dining experience I have had in a long time. I am not sure what is worse the food or the manager. I ordered the steak fajitas and the meat was not edible. It was way over cooked. The refried beans were so old and dried out. Clearly they had been sitting out for hours. I was not sure they were edible. When I asked the manager about the steak, he tried to tell me that the chef always makes it like that and people do not complain. He refused to take it back and remake it. My friend ordered a veggie burger and specifically stated she just wanted cheese on it. When it came out with onions and spinach under the cheese they refused to remake that. Only when we explained to the manager that she specifically said veggie burger with cheddar, did he agree to take it back. She declined another one when he said it would take 15 min to redo it. At that point we paid the check and left. I will not ever return. Apparently the customer is NEVER right at this place.

I purchased a Groupon to use for Loco Hombre/Alonso's. I had heard of this place but never been and wanted to try. I then saw several of the negative reviews and wondered what would be in store. My son and I went on a Saturday evening- expecting the worst since it was around 7pm. We were seated right away on our choice of either side. The two menus are similar, there was more seating available on Loco Hombre's side so we chose that. Our server, Hannah, was pleasant and gave us good service. She checked on us regularly and refilled drinks, etc without having to ask. A lady who appeared to be a manager even stopped at one point to ask if all was ok. Our food was good. Only suggestion we had was with our appetizer. We ordered Queso Fundindo. It is a melted cheese dip and came with "flour tortillas". While the dip was plentiful, they only provided 4 small flour tortillas. We had way more dip left. Either add more tortillas or serve with tortilla chips and provide more so you can finish the dip. My son and I both got burgers. Both were tasty and cooked correctly. We split a fried ice cream for dessert and enjoyed it as well. The place not packed, but a majority of tables were filled. Our experience was a good one. I heard the booth behind us say everything was good for them as well when asked. I will say that the booths seem to need some updating. Overall was satisfied and plan to go back.

So it's not so bad. The food was not as bad as I thought it would be. We came here despite the bad reviews because it was close to a class we were taking. I ordered the old bay wings and fries. I split 12 wings with a friend (although, they only gave us 11... I wasn't counting... but my friend did... but she didn't mind it too much). The Old bay wings were ok. They weren't too dry at all and the skin was crispy and flavorful. However, the old bay taste definitely didn't get into the meaty portion of the chicken as other old bay wings I've tasted. So I was a little disappointed in that but again, not bad. The fries were a bit soggy but at least it wasn't bland. I like a little more crispness in my fries, but I must admit that I did pretty much eat the whole side order of the fries so it must've been at least ok. My colleagues also said that the burgers (Alonzo's) were not bad. So overall, the food was ok. The service wasn't as bad as we thought neither. I mean, we did wait a very long time for our orders.. but the waiter definitely came back to refill our drinks whenever we needed him to. So all in all, ok. I probably wouldn't come back only because we are only in this part of town once in a while. But it's not a bad place to visit.

Don't waste your time going. We got there at 6 and ordered by 6:15. We told the waiter we had theatre tickets for 8:00. By 7:00 we were getting nervous and had to flag the waiter down. He said he'd check on the food. 7:15 he said there was a problem with the kitchen. I asked to speak to the manager. She reluctantly came over. Barely listened to our story and left. At 7:30, we had to leave. After trying to find the ineffective manager, she said the food was now ready. Where were we supposed to eat it? We were never offered a chip to tide us over until the food came. Was the food good? I'll never know. The seats on the chairs were shabby and dirty.

Gross food and rude wait staff! The burgers were under cooked, and my food tasted just plain weird, like something had gone sour! Will not be going back, there are way better places for way cheaper in baltimore!

Me and the bf went there for dinner last night. The thermostat in the restaurant was set at 81 degrees which wasn't pleasant, since our apartment ac is also off right now and we were looking for salvation. Bf says they have a great beer menu, we shared an abita pecan harvest, it was delish and cold. I got the shrimp enchiladas. I don't think they were worth $18, it was two small enchiladas. The salsa verde was good, but the refried beans and rice were so bland, it was literally just a texture on the plate. Maybe they forgot to season them. Bf got the philly burger and the fries were awesome and he said the burger was maybe the best he's had since moving to baltimore. So it was a pretty good meal, the enchiladas were delicious. Service was nice. =)

Good food however the service took forever. Our waiter seemed to be in lala land. Despite the service we ordered the nacho ground beef thing and it was out of this world. Also the mojitos were spectacular. Heck I would go there just for the drinks!!

Loco Hombre is conveniently down the street from my parents' house, so it's become a part of their "rotation" of restaurants, even though each time they venture there, they're never very satisfied. Loco is connected to Alonso's, a tiny sports bar that's been a Roland Park staple well before I was born. While the burgers and pizza from Alonso's are decent, unfortunately the Mexican food is usually sub-par. If you're in Loco, you can order food from either menu (I'm pretty sure you can't order Mexican food if you're on the Loco side of the restaurant). Don't get me wrong, the food at Loco isn't awful-- and I've never had service there that wasn't great-- but it's just pretty bland. Last time I ate there, I had the fajitas and while they weren't terrible, they were pretty boring. I'm always satisfied with the burgers and pizzas, so I guess maybe I should stick to that menu. Something I noticed on one of my recent visits is that there is an extensive drink menu. While you'd expect a Mexican restaurant to have margaritas, Loco goes above and beyond and has dozens of beers from all over the world (I'm often a sucker for an exotic imported beer). There's also $10 unlimited mimosas and Bloody Marys for weekend brunch-- and in my opinion, you really can't go wrong with that.

Honestly, this place was terrible. It took 5 minutes to figure out that the dried brown blob was refried "beans". The food was cold boring and dangerously awful. You never want to leave dinner and think, "i hope i don't get sick from this." Taco bell would rate higher than this. Oh yeah, and no pregame chips and salsa, and the crappy waiter was starting out the window while taking our order, the plates weren't what an adult would call clean, and the table was a little sticky. If negative 19 was a score, loco hombre would be receiving a negative 19.

Best-tasting, best-prepared burrito I've had in a long time. I don't quite get all the bad reviews, but hey, ya just gotta try it for yourself. I got the chicken burrito, which I was hesitant to do because of the price and simple-seeming description. I'm glad I went for it - although it didn't come with a traditional side, it came with freshly cooked tortillas, pico de gallo, sour cream, and lettuce. Seemed like they used a whole chicken breast as opposed to bits and chunks, which was impressive and very well spiced! I'll give the place 4/5 for now since it's the only thing I've tried. I should also mention I ordered pickup, so I have no comment on the service, although the girl who rang me up was very kind. Excited to try some new dishes here soon!

We live close by and have been coming here on and off since it opened. Tonight's meal will be the last. We had fajitas. The rice had hard crunchy parts, which at first seemed uncooked, but then realized it was dried up rice and scraped out of the pot. Inedible. The tortillas were cold -- like from the refrigerator. (Why do they bother with the covered tortilla dishes?). The unseasoned veggies were sitting in water in the barely warm cast iron pan, the carrots and mushroom chunks raw. At least the service was better than last time, when it took so long to get food we almost left. The pity is that it used to be so good.

Man. I am a bit surprised by some of the negative reviews for this place! I've always enjoyed myself at Loco Hombre! Okay, okay. It is not STELLAR food, I'll give you that. But I've never had a bad experience there. The service has always been friendly and the food has been good. I will say, yes, the chips and margarita(s) are probably the best part of the meal but only because they are pretty awesome. The margs are made to perfection (I like a strong drink) and the chips and salsa are pretty fab. They come with three different kinds of salsa, all delish and they better be because you actually have to pay for chips and salsa here. But I've never had any real complaints aside from the fact that it's not authentic Mexican food. Hey, sometimes you've just gotta take a place for what it is, ya know?? What I do really enjoy about Loco Hombre is that it's noisy enough to bring a two year old into but not too loud to hear yourself think. Just last week we had a lovely little night there. There were lots of other kids so we felt comfortable. The baby shared my quesadillas, which we both found to be very enjoyable, and my husband had the tacos which were good too. We will definitely come back to Loco Hombre for another laid back meal and I recommend you give it a try! Have a marg a chill out. Just don't expect to feel like you're across the border at this place because you may be disappointed.

I have very low standards for tex-mex, after all, how can you eff up refried beans and dumping spice blends onto to grilled meat. Just slap it all together, coat it in a layer of cheese, and douse it with some good salsa. This was terrible... and expensive, a killer combination. Ordered a black bean soup. It was under seasoned, tasted like a microwaved bowl of a can of pureed beans. We were searching for a bottle of any sort of seasoning, but for some reason the only table condiments are pepper and salt (in a presumably tex-mex restaurant?!?) Entree #1...2 taco platter. Over looking the giant mound of luckwarm and dry refried beans and undercooked spanish rice, the tacos were at best "Bell-esque". Entree #2, fish tacos, which inexplicable are served with awful undercooked rice (almost broke a tooth on a particularly hard grain) in the "taco". Rice belongs in a burrito, not a taco, but that's a minor quibble. The fish was a few mediocre slices of overcooked cat-food grade tuna (guarantee these were frozen solid only moments before ordering. The scoop of guac was the only thing on the plate I considered edible, but I picked out all the tuna just because I was hungry. All this was wrapped up in a stale, dry, cold, white flour tortilla. All for the low low price of $18!!!!! The beer selection (via Alonso's) is always decent, but even if this food was 1/3rd the price, it would still be a terrible place to eat.

Very disappointing! Our experience was very similar to most Yelp reviewers. OVER priced, 2 adults and 2 young children more than $70 (not including tip). The food was ordinary at best. The "Mexican" food was terrible! most of it was inedible and served cold. I'd eat at Taco Bell before I come here for Mexican food again. The waitress informed us that there was no "printed" kids menu, but named a few child friendly items, which were served as adult portions and we were charged full price. The sliders were okay (but cold) and the fries were greasy and a bit soggy. The drink menu looks appealing, if I returned I would skip the meal and try drinks and appetizers (w/out the kids). Finally, the service was marginal, definitely could have been more helpful with kids options.

Shucks... this place is close to her home, has a very good "pub" side with lots of TVs and a well stocked bar. Loco Hombre is the restaurant side, quieter, no TV, linen napkins, good mix of booths and tables. Had a "Restaurant-dot-com" coupon for $25 that I paid $10 to get, so we decided a hot Friday night would be a good time to use it. Not too busy when we arrived, but filled up by the time the appetizer arrived. Server was friendly and easy to talk to. Our entrees arrived after a longish wait, I requested they use ground bison in my enchilada because they're willing to sub bison for any hamburger, I figured I could have it for the same up-charge ($4) to sub it for a burger. Yes, you can have bison instead, but it will take longer because it's not already cooked like the usual ground for enchiladas. Well, I'd much rather have fresh ground anyway.... OK, we waited. Entrees arrived after a longer than average wait. Cold. Both my enchilada and her three tacos. Barely above room temperature. Including the rice and the beans. We told our server after one bite that our food was not hot. She offered to bring us hot beans and hot rice, which we accepted and ate and then got our cool entrees boxed up to take home and re-heat. Disappointing. Got a bill for $12 with our coupon and left a twenty behind, but it will be a long time before I go back, if I do. There's too many better choices within 5 miles.

My office used to be a few blocks from Loco Hombre and I was there at least once/week. Never true Mexican food, but was always VERY good. I went back last week for the first time in probably a year. The menu made no sense - it was a jumbled mix of Tex-Mex, pizza and other stuff. I started with a margarita - nothing special, but hit the spot. Should have stuck to tequila and chips... Three of us shared an empanada appetizer. It seemed to be just a fried mealy cornmeal/dough concoction. There was a spoonful of something in the center, but not sure what it was. My entree was the crispy corn tortilla taco with steak. At least that's what the menu said. There were three crispy-stale taco shells, but the rest was a mystery. The meat was some short of shredded ... beef, I assume. It tasted as if it were deli-case barbecue. I took one bite of the ice-cream scoop of refried beans - just a dry, tasteless blob. Didn't even bother trying the fiesta rice. Frankly -- Taco Bell is several steps above what I was served.

I don't know of its because I work in customer service or what but that was one of the worst experiences. Came in, with all the waiters sitting the the back table "folding silver wear". Ordered some wine, the glass was dirty, the waiter didn't bring over silver wear or a glass of water which I had to go up and ask the hostess to bring over. I ordered the chicken and shrimp stir fry with no rice. The veggies were hardly cooked however the meat was delicious. I almost felt like the waiter knew everything was bad. The price for the experience was way too much. Then, after leaving and walking out, some of the waiters smoking outside near the front door. Keepin it classy! Not going back, I forgot someone had already told me they were bad...

I shoulda known......I shoulda known to check Yelp before going out to eat. I coulda saved myself some money and perhaps eaten somewhere good. Started off with a Chile Relleno. If you don't know, Chile Relleno is as close to heaven as I can imagine....well when done correctly that is! When it arrived at the table, I have to admit I was excited. The breading look light ( a big deal in my book ) and the chile was a good size! Time to dig in! NO, no it wasn't. I tasted the red sauce on the plate first only to find it was cold.....ok I let that slide. I cut into the pepper and noticed it was hard. I got a lil' chunk off and popped it into my mouth....and the shit was COLD. I politely sent it back to the surprise of my company. The server was cool about it and promptly had a new one out to me. This one was good. It was cooked, all the way! A good start. Stuffed with corn, onions and some peppers; it was a nice version of an old classic. I have to admit, it needed more cheese but I can't say it was bad. I'm a stickler for a chile with tons of cheese, period. But hey, I'll try new things. For the "main" course I had a Tostada Salad and my friend had the "famous fajitas" with shrimp. I want to stress that they wrote "famous" on the menu. Really, they did. I was thinking Taco Bell......a flat tortilla fried hard with a smearing of beans, lettuce, cheese and some chopped tomatoes. Good eats really. Not what I received. A super fried tortilla bowl filled with wilted brown lettuce, a small scoop of guac, sour cream and a miniscule pinch of cheese. No dressing. ??? Huh, no dressing?!? I pulled out the funky lettuce onto the top, pushed the salad to the side of the table and had a drink. It's clear to me now that the fajitas are famous for having no flavor. Those were the exact words she used when she tried them. I jumped on the chance to try them as I hadn't any food I could eat.....and yeah, not much flavor. I see in other reviews that people think this place lacks flavor...and yes they do. Oh and the shrimp were tiny, previously frozen I am sure....and only 4 for the whole meal. WTF? Not impressed at all with this place. 2 people, 1 app, 1 salad, 1 'famous' fajita and 4 drinks = $80 plus tip. Based on quality....I'd think $30-40 woulda been a fair price. Somone put it perfectly when they said "Take a lesson from Mari Luna".....not a verbatim quote but ya get the idea.

Well-cooked fajitas and decent basic offerings. We've heard reports of service being hit or miss, but usually we're too relaxed here to mind. The margaritas are good, if a little strong, and the chicken fajitas are well-marinated and tasty. Nothing super special, but close to home and always has parking - easy to stop by and grab a bite.

We've gone here for one main reason: beer selection. After three trips, we haven't had a single meal we could recommend to anyone. The best thing we've had was the nachos with the three salsa but even those are annoying because the dishes the salsas come in are impossible to work with. Burger is OK but fries are soggy. One time I had a mixed greens salad that was mostly iceberg. All of the Mexican dishes have been absolutely disappointing. We've tried the enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, the flautas appetizer. Blech. Service has been great each time we've been there. I can't complain about the service. Now that our Groupons are used up, I don't think we'll be going back.

This place is still very overpriced for what you get; they need to greatly improve their menu and preparation quality to continue to get customers to return. I REALLY wish they would do so since I live close and love good mexican or even tex-mex food. We just ate there and with one salad and two lowest-price entrees (a chicken burrito and a burger) and a pint of beer the bill it was $43 + tip. The "mexican" food is very limited in scope (probably about 8 options) and also pretty terrible and overpriced. The burritos are not flavorful and seem to lack any spices whatsoever (even with the bit of salsa dumped on them). They serve chips with it but no salsa to dip them in. The guacamole was fresh but a total blah, salsa on burrito was blah to the point where the sour cream seemed relatively flavorful by comparison. As for American food, I don't know why they serve it if there is Alfonso's right in the same building unless maybe it's to give you a heads-up as to the quality of the mexican food or something. Anyway, the fries were tasty and have skin on them, which is good, but were cold. The burger was too irregular and thick and toppings on it were flavorless (and no it's not that I'm anosmic or something). The bun was dried out; it actually cracked into pieces when I cut the burger in half (see part about the burger being too fat). The arugula and fried goat cheese salad is pretty good, but should it be $10? Not in my book for what you get; too vinegar-y and not enough apples. However, this salad was closer to appropriate value than the other food, although the other food was just so uninspiring I would not even be excited to have it for free. Sad but true. This place needs to either take a page from Mari Luna mexican restaurant and raise its quality and offerings in this regard, or else close down and/or change their name and what they serve. I'm concerned and saddened by the fact that since almost all of Alfonsoville's restaurants (Miss Shirley's, Roland Park Bagel, S'ghetti Eddie's, Alfonso's and Loco Hombre) are the same owner perhaps they they just keep Loco Hombre treading water simply to keep out competition in the neighborhood, but the customers really get the short end of the stick because of this monopoly. Competition is what makes restaurants great and keep them great... I hope something changes with Loco Hombre pdq!

First off, I absolutely LOVE when I get to write a positive review - so let's start with the positives, shall we? Tabasco makes one hell of a yummy sauce! S.Pellegrino can do no wrong! Margaritas BEFORE the meal were a smart choice. When in doubt, you can always add salt....and...I'm out. And now on to Loco Hombre's contribution to the service. We eagerly arrived at the restaurant(s) with anticipation of a great burger and some Mexican goodness - our excitement soon drained into nausea. The server could not have been more disinterested in his service, the floors of the restaurant were (no exaggeration here) speckled in trash & food bits from other tables, and there were stains of previous diners' meals on the wall (we took a picture for entertainment). My sister ordered a burger w/fries - this turned out to be a stale bun, overcooked meat, and fries that had obviously been sitting in the kitchen for some time. She barely started, let alone finished, her meal. Her boyfriend and I both ordered fajitas - they turned out to be a mixture of (most likely) frozen vegetables poured onto a skillet and lacked ANY sort of seasoning (back to good ole' salt!). The sides for the fajitas consisted of (definitely canned) beans, overcooked rice, and (i'll give Loco Hombre this) fresh lettuce/tomatoes. We barely started, let alone finished, our meals. My boyfriend ordered mussels - the majority of which he had to hand pry open (they were definitely not cooked properly), caked in a white sauce (which wound up all over his hands from the prying), and at one point, he spit one out. He DID, however, comment on the bread being good. And, you guessed it, he didn't finish his meal. My boyfriend also ordered a side of those fries we all questioned so much - I think it would be good to note that he had to "submerse" them into the mussel's sauce just so they wouldn't be hard & chewy....didn't finish those either. Although our server showed no interest in our table, the bus boy was more than eager to clear our plates before we finished eating (and, yes, I'll be fair: we weren't GOING to finish the meals....but who takes them away from the table when other people are still eating?) So, in conclusion, I'll sum up this lengthy review with: $80+ for a LOT of no eating, and only being able to compliment the portions of our meal which were provided by outside companies = not worth the time of day.

I was told this place used to be great, but didn't find much reason to like it. The chips and salsa were fresh, but the burger and enchiladas we ordered were just OK. The biggest problem for me was that the meal for two cost $45 with no alcohol and I didn't feel like I got anywhere close to that value. It's also a little weird that the place is attached to a beer and wine store.

I have wanted to try this place for quite a while. It is joined with Alonzo's, which I have eaten at in the distant past. It is billed as a Mexican joint, but it is really a hodge podge of different choices. I had the chicken enchiladas. They were pretty bland, with a barbecued chicken as the filling. Seems a bit weird. The rice that came with it was bland, dry, and not edible. The re-fried beans were of a bizarre texture, and also not very edible. My wife had the chicken burrito, which was equally disappointing. It was quite bland, and was stuffed with the aforementioned beans. It might as well have been a bean sandwich with some chicken garnish. The chips were stale, and the hot sauce was too salty. Overall, a disappointment, and not a repeater.

Highly DO NOT recommend Loco Hombre! The food was absolutely horrible- actually inedible! I went to Loco Hombre with my father and mother- my father had been a couple of years ago and recommend we try something new. Where to start... I ordered the taco salad. Normally this includes corn, beans, cheese, guac, and a nice dressing inside of a tortilla shell. Instead I was given a bowl of lettuce with a little bit of cheese and sour cream. They had forgotten to put the beans in and when I asked what happened to the beans, I was given a side plate of (cold) refried beans. I tried putting it in the "salad" and mixing it but it ended up looking like a pile of vomit. Refried beans and salad mixed together with a little bit of sour cream is really unappetizing. I couldn't eat it. So I tried a slice of my mother's margherita pizza. It was cold, greasy, and had an underlying taste of plastic. My mother actually said she preferred Domino's. My father was welcomed with a warm margarita and his entree of chicken tacos was cold, beans and rice as well. When he mentioned this to the waitress she apologized and brought him out a new plate of "piping hot" beans. These too were cold. While our waitress was very friendly, the manager really didn't do much for our unappeased appetites. She offered to get us something else (um... no thanks) and took a mere $10 off of our $60 check. This wasn't very gratifying as all three of us hardly touched our meals. We're usually very easy to please and we rarely leave food on our plates. All THREE of entrees were dissatisfying and quite frankly disgusting. Don't come here. You'll regret not going to the Subway next door.

Nachos were very good, burgers were near gourmet with a large selection. Every burger is available in either beef or bison and they will serve it rare if requested. Beer selection is very good as well with a large number of international choices.

Loco Hombre used to be a restaurant that you could get good food and service - unfortunately they have basically become a bad version of taco bell - most of the menu is from next store and consists of hamburgers and pizza. The mexican is not worth eating and you should only eat here is you want a burger from Alonso's next door and can not get a table. We only ordered tacos - chicken and beef - they both came out within five minutes and were ice cold - once we were able to get our waiter he took them back and brought them back in about a minute - they clearly put the entire plate into the microwave and heated them up - great for the hard shell tacos that we ordered. My advice - stay away unless you are a college student from around the corner and you are looking for a burger

I'll try and set the record straight. I fell in love with this place because of the Crazy Man Wings w/ Old Bay. Phenomenal. They're all big and juicy, seasoned just right, celery and ranch or bleu cheese. After living in upstate NY for 5 years trying to find a wing joint in MD was starting to feel hopeless. If you didn't come to a mexican resto for wings (and I certainly don't blame you!) I recommend the crispy/fluffy tacos. I get mine with pork and that is a meal. Get a margarita and you can't go wrong. I really enjoy this place and I've seen different plates look kinda wack from what my friends order, but stick with the tacos or wings and you really can't miss.

Wednesday night I took a couple friends who where visiting from out of town out to eat and since this restaurant is within walking distance, I decided to give it a try, big mistake. I ordered the Salmon dinner, it comes with green beans and rice. I thought the rice was plain and undercooked and the green beans overly buttery, the salmon was okay tasting but later that night I was pretty sick with food poisoning and I'm pretty sure I got it from eating their salmon, I'm still feeling sick today. That was my first and last time eating at this place.

Loco Hombre is so similar to TGIFriday's that I thought I had timewarped to high school. There is nothing here in the way of atmosphere, the food is mediocre and way overpriced, et cetera. Really I think the only reason that I am giving two stars is because the waitstaff was at one point standing around watching Reno 911 IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RESTAURANT, mirroring my feelings toward the place more accurately than the other, seemingly content, diners, who made me feel mildly sociopathic. I've gotta update here and take away a star. Today at work I could not get out of my mind the moment when Wayne the Waiter, with no apology or outward display of shame, carried to our table a (nearly empty) bottle of Melinda's Mango and some kind of dyed-red vinegar and presented them as "hot sauce."

Let me say I used to love Loco and I was excited to go there again. All I have to say is SOOOOO disappointing. We ordered chips and salsa you could see the oil on the chips. My entree was cold and my fiance's burger looked raw. I will not be going back. It used to be such a good restaurant.

The ownership has changed at Loco Hombre and you can tell. My pork tacos were lukewarm. The waiter was terrible. He kept asking us the same questions. We had to ask for refills even though he kept walking by our table. Not friendly at all either. Skip this place ... not worth the money.

Hmmm . . . (wait for it) . . . try as I might its difficult to find anything positive to say about this place. They should be ashamed of themselves masquerading as a restaurant. The space would be better utilized if the kitchen were closed and it was open for drink service only. That way there would be more space in the dining room for board games. Scrabble anyone?

Simply a disappointment. I went there as part of a private party so we had the room upstairs. When we arrived, the host had know idea what he was doing and set us up in the dining room even though they had our reservations and entree orders. Once in the private room, our waitress kept disappearing. She would leave and then come back 15 minutes later and just stand around. We had to ask numerous times for our water glasses to be refilled, plates to be taken away, and so forth. For the amount of money that you pay for an entree, it simply wasn't good. I've had better at On the Border. I had high hopes for Loco Hombre, but they fell short.

As much as I would like to give this place a positive rating I simply can't. I visited LH last night for dinner and, disappointing is the best rating I could give the food. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! I ordered the chicken and beef kabob and I wouldn't recommend my dish to hungry people in developing countries. Where should I start . . . my plate was cold, the food was cold and the entire dish looked as if it had been sitting under a food lamp with a burned out bulb for an hour (it seemed it took that long for thefood to come to my table). Spread over the top of the food was a ketchup type sauce that resembled the finger paint I used to play with in first grade. If you must visit Loco Hombre I would suggest taking bringing your dinner from somewhere else.

Quite disappointing to say the least. I almost gave it two stars for the ambiance but the food was just palatable and boring. So much to say: 1. Greeting was uninviting and no smile by the manager. 2. Waitress was pleasant but very slow. 3. Service overall mediocre - did not provide cutlery for 2 people, although we were seated at the same time; did not accommodate for shared plates; we had to move things around to make room for the food with no apology by the waitress or consideration - overall inconsiderate, or maybe just apathetic staff towards us. 4. Beet salad looked like something a diner would throw together - average but not very inspiring - we were sharing and the waitress did not take that into account. 5. I asked if they had traditional fresh Mexican juices and I got a dumb stare from the waitress who asked if there was alcohol in them and then said no - I looked around and confirmed based on the paintings and name that we were in fact in a Mexican restaurant but maybe they do not serve them - ordered a gingerale - no fault on their part I guess. 6. Ordered the fajita shrimp to share - remember that waitress kept forgetting that we were sharing and brought plates after the food arrived. 7. Fajita arrives sizzling and burnt - 4 pieces of shrimp, black green peppers and onions and 4 tortillas that were cold by the time the food arrived. 8. Guacamole and beans were bland and their "hot salsa" was mild. 9. Took 30 minutes to get the check after we were done eating - luckily we were in conversation and passed the time. 10. Left only 10% tip - no comment. 11. Many people were ordering the pizza and it looked good but not sure I will return based on this below average experience.

I went for brunch with a couple and their 2-year-old son. (Our first choice was Miss Shirley's, where the line was insane. We were given a $5 discount voucher for LH. What the heck, we figured.) We were the first customers of the day, and our food took almost 45 minutes to arrive. The waitress eventually told us that there was only one chef on duty and that three of the four plates were ready. We asked her to bring the food that was plated. Mine -- a crab Benedict -- was room temp, but I didn't want to find out what would happen if I sent it back. Potential for a good meal if the service were more in keeping with usual restaurant timing. The menu has interesting options -- including a Roquefort omelet made with shredded chicken. Not sure Sunday brunch is when the place is at its best.

Bleh. Extremely mediocre mexican food. Part of the ever expanding Alonso's empire. They own four restaurants on the same block., all of which subscribe to the "keep it bland" philosophy. All four restaurants seem to thrive on the fact that Roland Parkers would rather not rub elbows with the riff raff of Hampden. There is undoubtedly some genius in the business plan. For the money, and if you want to stay in the same proximity, you are probably better off going to Holy Frijoles, though even that place has gone a bit downhill.

Don't waste your money or your time. I decided to return to this restaurant after many years and boy was I sorry. There is nothing good to say about this place. The Margherita Pizza tasted like plastic - Dominos is better. The Tostada salad was a bowl of lettuce - no beans, no corn, no nothing. When we asked for beans, the waitress came over with an ice cream scoop and literally plopped disgusting refried beans on top. They were cold, crusty, and gross. Inedible. The margheria drink, a staple in a Mexican restaurant, was lukewarm. Because literally none of the food was really appetizing or edible, we complained to the manager. I had hoped there would be some sign of concern. She was pretty disinterested, offered to bring us more (bad) food, and took off only $11 off a $60 bill. That's $60 for three people who never ate. Run, don't walk, away from this place. They should be ashamed to call themselves a restaurant. It's one small step above Taco Bell.

I think Loco Hombre is ok. Some of the stuff is really really good, some of its ok at best. For dinner I've had the beef tenderloin and the ribs, which were ok (but I think they were a special?). For brunch, the egg and bacon souffle was pretty good, but really rich not in a good way. The breakfast cubano sandwich was ok, but I'd rather go elsewhere. I also think the dinner is pretty expensive for what it is, brunch is definitely more reasonable. i think if Loco Hombre has any brunch popularity its because there is a lack of nicer brunch places here, so you end up going by default when parents or whomever come into town and you want to take them to someplace with a tablecloth.

I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, but it's just inconsistent. I've been here for several great experiences, and several not-so-great experiences. Best advice, if you want to get the most out of it, go for dinner on a week night. The food is good - I know they also serve brunch on weekends which I've yet to try, but overall, for the same money, you can do better.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
