I frequently come here for lunch, today being no exception, and always have a good experience. The Hipp Café is a casual venue but they have a nice menu selection and it's a perfect lunch spot. They are open weekdays for lunch and prior to any evening shows at the Hippodrome Theatre. It's a quick service place at lunch with someone bringing you your order after you place it, but you're not waited on by a server or anything. The prices and portions are reasonable. I almost always get the Hummus Powerhouse wrap which is tasty, though I've had several of their salads and others I've dined with have enjoyed their sandwiches. They make their own potato chips as a side and I'm not overly fond of them, usually opting for the pasta salad side, which is better, though it could be lighter on the dressing. Overall I'd definitely recommend going here, and if you're part of the UMB student or staff community you even get a 10% discount.

Have eaten here before many shows, as we get a reserved table due to season tickets. Food is never good and I always wonder why this is an option. I am now down to the shrimp salad wrap and nothing else. Pizzas, crabcake, ribeye cheesesteak, soup, burger.... all misses. But before a show with my mom gotta kill some time. But props to the people who work there. I would be pulling my hair out over bitchy theater people with a sense of entitlement. :) even if it is just cash and carry....

I work in the area and visit the cafe for lunch on occasion. Nice selection of unique sandwiches, soups, and salads. I am especially fond of the crab and corn chowder that comes with a little crab cake crouton on top. The reuben sandwich is a solid standard as well. Definitely a low-key cafe.

I love this place and I hope the owners/managers read my review and keep up the good work and don't raise the prices. I only go here for lunch, so I'm giving 5 stars based on the lunch menu. I can head here on my lunch break and I think it's actually a better deal than if I packed my own lunch from home. The amount of meat on the sandwiches and the size of the portions of pasta and fries, it would be expensive to put that much on your sandwich at home. For $5.99 or $6.99 at the Hipp Cafe you get a good amount of delicious food. Panera may have some good sandwiches for $6.96 but they're not as big as these. There's a lot of seating here too My only suggestion is that they add another server for bringing out the orders- the one woman who is usually there has to run around a lot. Also, considering how reasonably priced the menu is, the cookies should be less than $2.25. They look good tho!

Every time I go here I always get the Buffalo Chicken Salad. After living in Buffalo for four years, it's been a challenge to find something with the word "Buffalo" in the name that I didn't want to throw out moments after the first bite. Unfortunately nothing in Maryland seems up to par. However, this salad has been the first "Buffalo" dish that I have been able to enjoy while down here. ((It won't ever be able to live up to Buffalo's standards but it is certainly fantastic for Maryland's,)) The blue cheese is awesome. It's not too strong but it's sharp enough to have a delicious presence. ((Of course they serve it with Ranch dressing, which is a big no-no in Buffalo, but I've learned to just put up with Maryland's way of doing these things.)) The salad is piled high and they don't skimp on the chicken either. The veggies are fresh and the bacon mixes seamlessly with the blue cheese. My big suggestion though, is to EAT IN. The salad is much bigger and it tastes better eaten fresh out of the kitchen. The service: The people that work at the hipp cafe are friendly and accommodating. I would also like to point out that I walked in around 2:28pm on a Friday, right before they closed, and not only were they willing to keep the kitchen open to make my food BUT they were genuinely kind and didn't show a bit of frustration! They also provide student discounts! Since I have another year in Baltimore, I will likely be back. I'm going to make the effort to try something new next time!!

Hipp Cafe is a small cafe that is attached to the Hippodrome Theatre. It's a little easy to miss and the hours are kind of funky but it's a decent place to grab a bite to eat for lunch. I came in a little before noon and it was busy but not packed. I put in an order of the Jay's Cheesesteak with a side of the homemade garlic potato chips. The food came out in about 5-10 minutes. The cheesesteak was a little smaller than I was expecting and came dressed up with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, mayo, and cheddar cheese. The meat (sirloin steak) was in small chunks (not thinly sliced strips) but was good quality. So this isn't your typical Philly style cheesesteak... But it was pretty good! It wasn't mind-blowingly amazing but it was a solid eat.... You can do much worse in the area. Unfortunately the chips fell a little flat... They were unevenly seasoned and had a burnt taste to them. If I come back, I know I won't be ordering the chips.

It is a good choice for a quick and easy pre-show dinner/drinks. It's very casual (go to register to place order & server drops it off at your table). There are many better restaurants in the area, but this is convenient (and probably safer than walking around the area!). Salad and burger were good. I made reservations, and had no issues. Servers were friendly.

Great lunch spot. Price is similar to panara across the street, but the service and food is top notch. Also, even better deal is the whole combo, that is pick two of salad, soup, or sandwich full portion of each for 10$. I usually eat one for lunch and get the second for diner/lunch the next day! I can't speak to their dinner food, but lunch or is the best in the area by far. Beware however they are not open for lunch on weekends or Mondays.

I came here for lunch with co-workers and was happy to discover a new place to eat in walking distance of UMB! We had a large party coming for lunch, so we made reservations and the staff was very accommodating. I'd recommend checking out the Hipp Cafe if you're dining with friends or co-workers. You order at the front counter and then the staff brings you your food. No worries about splitting the check or having to get cash from an ATM! I ordered the turkey club sandwich on sourdough bread. Even though it was the middle of the lunchtime rush I only had to wait 5 minutes for my food. The service was quick, friendly, and efficient! My sandwich pretty tasty, although it was mostly a basic turkey sandwich. I caught a serious case of food envy over the taco salad a few of my co-workers ordered though. Everyone who ordered the taco salad cleaned their plate - I think it's a definite winner. But the biggest winner - the chocolate chip cookie. It was chocolate, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth goodness (hopefully the melt-in-your-mouth goodness wasn't due to the 95 degree temperature outside). I only had a small piece because I didn't want to look greedy in front of my co-workers, but I will be back for you, cookie!

First things first: Veronica, the cashier gives incredible customer service and is worth her tip every time! On to the food. When the kitchen is on point, the salads are AMAZING!!! The cilantro-lime vinaigrette is sublime and the salads are plentiful. The downfall with this place (at least at lunch time) is that they lack consistency when it comes to food production. Some days it's amazing and some days they forget the chicken in your chicken taco salad. This could all happen in the same week no less. I think the prices are great for the size of the salads.

My friends and I stopped in for a little pre-show dinner, as there really aren't any good options within walking distance. The menu looked good, but the food just didn't live up to the descriptions. I got a chicken panini, but the chicken was so tough I couldn't bite through it. It was almost like chewing rubber. My friends expressed similar dissatisfaction with their food as well. And for the prices, you'd think it could have been at least a LITTLE better. For future reference, I'll take the extra time to have dinner somewhere else before the show.

While the food was good, service was less than expected--one of our party was not served until 20 minutes later--and another did not get bread with her soup

The food was good and prices were better than most downtown lunch places (less than $8 for my soup and salad). The service wasn't great. There was alot of take out folks waiting and no good system. I waited over 20 minutes but the server was nice once I pointed it out.

Hubbo and I went to see Wicked at the Hippodrome tonight and grabbed a bite to eat at its in-house cafe. Service was friendly and prompt. Sandwiches were decent (we ordered the pulled pork and the cheese steak) and accompanied by Old Bay chips, which I suppose is meant to be "hipp." The big disappointments were the soup and bread pudding, which were both colder than the ill winds that blew Dorothy to Oz.

I always order the Buffalo Chicken Salad from Hipp Cafe, when I've ordered other things I was disappointed (stay away from the BBQ Chicken Panini -- paaah) but the salad I usually order is so good, I give this place four stars b/c let's face it, any establishment that thinks to put bacon on a Buffalo Chicken Salad is a friend of mine ! Very friendly waitstaff here, the customer service is deserving of five stars.

The Hipp Cafe has the most AMAZING salads. I love this place because it's conveniently located by my school and has great, affordable prices. The buffalo chicken salad and chicken taco salad are TO DIE FOR! Definitely go here next time you're in the area. It trumps Panera!!
