I finally was able to make it here today. I've always wanted to come out and try Haute Dog Carte but never found the time to do so. Anyways, I went to the bank, got some cash so I could pay for my lunch (and a friend's) and went on my mission to pick up these hot dogs. I arrived to a small line standing in front of the cart / converted garage. That's a good sign... people actually want to eat here... and are willing to wait too! I ordered the hot dogs (Spicy Salsa Sour Cream Sausage and the HD Signature) and waited and got my money out to pay. Houston, we have a problem. My $10 bill was nowhere to be found! I told the owner of this unexpected turn of events and ran to my car (parked around the corner in a parking lot). Surely, I must have dropped my money somewhere in the car. No dice. I went back and told the owner I'm gonna run across the street to the Bank of America to get some more cash and that I'd be right back again. He replied, "Don't worry about it. These things happen." "But I feel bad! I'll be right back!" "Don't worry about it. I'm gonna forget about this right after... just come back next time and pay us back the extra." So mission crisis averted, thanks to the super awesome owner. And yes, I'll be back. My friend and I tried the hot dogs once I was able to deliver it back to where my friend was (around the Homewood campus...which is maybe 10 min drive away). We each tried a little bit of each hot dog and they were great. The HD Signature was just awesome. A huge hot dog in a soft baguette with dijon mustard, tomato and onion jam, and bacon and onion marmalade. It's a flavor party in your mouth. I'd have preferred a little less dijon and more marmalade but still, it was pretty hot diggity dog good. The Spicy Salsa Sour Cream Sausage was their Thursday special. It was good...but compared to the HD Signature, it fell short. A little too much bread and the sauce was either too much or too little, depending on where you bit. Both hot dogs were a little on the salty side of things so make sure you get something to drink with them. But despite its humble appearance, Haute Dog Carte has got some good, cheap eats. And it's open for lunch everyday, except for when the weather is less than 20 degrees or more than 100 degrees (says the owner). So good food, AWESOME service/owner, good prices... what more could you ask for? I'll be back again real soon!

Run, don't walk to this fine establishment in an old garage on a busy street. The onion and bacon relish is worth the wait in line just to sink your teeth into its deliciousness. We'll worth having to listen to the smarmy banter from the guy behind the grill, too.

Hot Dogs are too sweet, too much bread, and not hot enough. Would be nice if they had more time and sauerkraut. Need some work.

Love this place. The lines can be long, but well worth the wait. All of the specials are amazing and at time surprisingly so. The Maryland crab dog is an old bay sausage with crab dip, which sounds like it might be a bit much, but I was surprised to find it to be outstanding. Also, if they happen to be handing out pickles, do yourself a favor and take a sample; one of the better pickles that I have had.

@hautedaniel and his lovely minions do an amazing job. Not only are the hot dogs and sausages wonderful, inventive, and delicious...the service is always fun and happy and entertaining.

Love this place! Just tried them for the first time and totally agree with all the rave reviews. The Daily Dog was wrapped in salami with two kinds of mustard - delicious. My favorite thing was the buns though. They use lovely French bread with a hole through the center so everything is perfectly wrapped up. Genius! They guy there today was super nice too. Great sense of humor, very helpful, and really made me want to return. Can't wait to come back!

These guys claim to have "quite possibly the best hot dog you'll ever have". Have you had a chance to stop here? The Haute Dog Carte does have some limited hours - only 11am-230pm and only on Wednesdays-Sundays. So, maybe you haven't randomly been on Falls road during the exact time they are open. I usually am not. One day, though, I was lucky enough to be in the area, and they were open. They do have a good thing going. The guys here are super friendly, and manage to create something out of a small little roadside stand. My favorite is the buns, huge chunks of baguettes that the poke a hole in with a bread warmer. We couldn't decide so we split two. The HD Signature is your classic 1/4 pound black angus beef dog. It's finished with bacon & onion marmalade, tomato & onion jam and an authentic dijon mustard. The hot dog was good, but all I tasted was sweet, that tomato kinda sweet. I didn't get much bacon flavor or much mustard. I might just ask for a plain dog next time and top it with my favorite topping - spicy brown mustard. The other dog we tried was the Smoked Country Sausage. It is a beef and pork dog that is lightly smoked and then tossed on the grill. They serve this one with a honey and pommery (a french champagne) dijon mustard. I liked this one better; more depth of flavor. It also hit a few more spice notes on the tongue. Overall - super great spot for lunch - that is if you manage to get there when they are open.

Literally hot dogs served out of a garage. But these are very high scale hot dogs. I usually go for their main hot dog -- HD Signature. The marmalade is full of onion and bacon flavor. Their rolls are big hoagie / french baguette style rolls. A hole is punctured in the bread and toasted from inside. This kinda makes eating the hot dog awkward though from the increased size. There is usually a line during prime lunch hours, so expect to wait a bit. Also, bring cash. Hot dogs go for 5-6 bucks, $1-2 extra is you want a drink or chips. A little expensive for a hot dog and a drink for $7-8, but the quality is there. Beats anything at Rofo from across the street.

Haute Dog is located right next door to Bonjour (the cute cafe) - it's basically a little stand where you just stand in line, order your dogs, pay in cash, and then either eat it next door inside Bonjour or get it to-go. The menu is limited, with their usual being the HD Signature, Spicy Italian, and the Breakfast Sausage Dog; they also offer the 'Daily Chef Dogs' that showcase that change on a daily basis (when we went, it was the Duck Dog with Peach Apricot Compote and Boudin Blanc with Citronette). The owner, Daniel, is a smart alec/borderline rude, so some may not be a fan of that (just keep that in mind!). I tried the HD Signature (1/4 lb. black angus finished with tomato and onion jam, bacon and onion marmalade, and dijon mustard); the Spicy Italian (dijon with a red wine vinaigrette), and a regular dog with 2 Utz chips. I was a fan of the HD Signature, as the black Angus sausage was actually pretty tasty! It had a nice snap, slightly salt, and great with the jam and the marmalade. I thought it was interesting that all the dogs were shoved inside a white roll (ever-so-slightly stale); a little too much bread, but an interesting concept. The Spicy Italian was just okay - it wasn't that spicy but more herb-y; I just wished that there was more sauce, The regular dog was alright, but forgettable. I've heard that there was a kimchi dog for one of their Chef Dogs specials, so I would love to try that one day when it's available. The dogs are a little on the pricey side ($5-$6) and it's cash only! They're opened everyday, only between 11-2:30PM, rain or shine! +HD Signature +daily Chef Dogs (check their FB or Twitter for the specials) +can get it to-go or sit in Bonjour next door to enjoy +some free street/residential parking available (has limited spaces in the lot)

First of all, I'm so impressed by the engineering of this hot dog. Half of a baguette is inverted over a large metal skewer to make a hole large enough for sauce and dog. You can eat the hotdog vertically with no worry of leakage. Really brilliant. I ordered the HD Signature - 1/4 pound dog, with tomato and onion jam, onion marmalade, dijon, and bits of bacon. There was a generous amount of sauce. I felt like the tomato was more like a marinara than a jam. I would have liked more of the onion flavor to pop out, but it was still an amazing dog. Every bite was filled with bits of bacon. How could I be disappointed with that? For $5, this is really a great deal. The hotdog is a generous size, and the flavors are so unique. I will definitely be back.

Get there early or you will be waiting in line. A lot of people flock here to experience something different and new. A very nice touch on the classic hot dog. Customer service is excellent very personable. It's a step up from going to a hot dog vendor on the street. The chef dog is always something that you wouldn't have thought of

YEEEEEAHHHH BUDDY! First of all, it took me over half an hour to get here because it was raining and people didn't know how to drive. There was also an accident on Northern Parkway so I had to take a long detour. I went to the shopping center next to the Haute Dog Carte and drove around it twice before calling the place. The guy told me to go a little bit to the right of the shopping center and I should find a little Pink building on the Right side. Which was Bonjour, another place I stopped by after picking up them DAUGS. That HD Signature dog was devoured in less than 1 minute. I just couldn't stop. I had to finish it as soon as possible. Why? Or else my brother would have devoured it even though he already had the Smokey Sausage dog. How I regret only getting 2 dogs when I live all the way in Columbia. I should have gotten 4 more at least because they were just so damn tasty. I don't go around trying to find the "best" hot dogs in the world so before you judge me, judge YOSELF FOO. The HD Signature dog had this sweet, delicious, almost German-like mustard inside with the HUGE sausage and great textured bread. It was PHIN OM IN ULL. I only had a bite of the other one and that was really good too but since I only had 1 side, I couldn't fully experience the whole dog. These hot dogs smelled so good that I forgot to take pictures of em. Next time which will be soon, I'm gonna get many dogs. Many......

I'm not even finished eating as I type this. I've been wanting to try this place for so long. I ordered the HD signature and it was great. There really is a such thing as a gourmet hot dog. Fresh bread, great spread and mustard and the hot dog was very big. The owner was very friendly also. I would definitely go back.

The Deli Dog!!!!! Salami wrapped dog. It's not one they have on the menu on a daily basis. You have to catch it when it's available as one of their Chef Dogs. But it's oh so good. I love everything about this street side little fabulously purple place. It's so inviting & so is the owner. If you're in the area, please stop & give this place your business. Hands down, best hot dog around.

I made the mistake of moving away from Mount Washington and away from this glorious place about a year and a half ago. Getting back down there is difficult, especially with their limited hours. The "haute dogs" are incredible. Who else serves homemade sauces inside half of a french baguette with a full specialty sausage. No matter what you decide to get, you'll be happy. On my most recent trip about 6 months ago, when I got there there was a slight lull in customers. When I was about to order, the power went out on the stand. The owner needed to go flip the breaker so he asked if I could hang out and watch the stand for a few minutes. I had no place to be, so of course I agreed. He was back in 5 minutes with a fully functional stand, and offered me a free dog. This is how you run a business, people! This guy is so friendly and awesome, and produces the best specialty dogs around. I really need to move back to Mount Washington...

I never have been a big hotdog fan. But I absolutely love a haute dog! The hotdog it self is flavorful and the bun selection they use works and way better than your run of the mill roll. The original dog is my go to but I like to try the daily specials out often, one of my favorites is the super cheese dog that only comes around every now and then. Make sure to buy a root beer to pair with it!

COME FOR THE DOGS. STAY FOR THE FLOOR SHOW. These have got to be the best hot dogs I have ever eaten. Period. But more than that is the experience of waiting in line with other happy people--happy because they know what's coming: the best dogs in the cosmos. It's the only restaurant in Baltimore where strangers talk to each other encouraged by the ongoing banter of the top dog and his eye rolling staff. The location is not great--on the narrowest of sidewalks along busy Falls Road. Honestly, you'll risk your life getting one of these hot dogs, but better to die trying than to live any longer not having eaten one.

Awesome dogs! Great service! Don't let the lines discourage you. It's well worth the wait. If you get the chance to check this place out, don't hesitate. The owner Daniel is super friendly. I've seen some scrappy reviews, and I think those are people looking who only see the negative in anything. .

I'm not usually a big fan of hot dogs. They give me indigestion and I just am not generally a fan of the flavor. That being said...this place is amazing. I had just finished hiking with the pooch and was starving. saw this stand and thought I'd try it. So glad I tried it. The hot dog was amazing. And even better...he gave me a hot dog for my dog for free? Not heated or on a bun...so nice of him! That saved me from my dog trying to wrestle away my hot dog. He could have tried...but I wouldn't have let him have mine. Lol.

  • David H.

Don't make the mistake of thinking this is a hot dog!! This is a gourmet meal in a bun!!! Duck dog with orange confit? This is not your average dog!! Everyday there is a new chef dog that I need to decide upon and that is hard considering the "standard" HD is sooooo good! This is a "can't miss" when u are in the area. Matter of fact, you need to make a special trip there NOW! You will not regret it.

  • XI X.

I ordered the HD dog with chips and a coke. The baguette tasted like it was a day old supermarket bread. It was chewy and dry. The dog was standard all beef. I did not really see the big deal about this place. I feel like Stuggys has it beat. I think people are amazed by the size more so than the taste and quality of the ingredients.

Been driving by this place for 6 months and finally stopped today...shoulda stopped sooner! Gourmet dogsinside excellent rolls. Grabbed a Duck Dog, Andouille, and the Signature. All were outstanding. Definetly worth the $5 a pop price tag. This will be a once a week stop from now on.

For some reason Baltimore has the oddest little side-street joints that serve up ridiculous food. This was one of the best dogs I've ever had and by far the most unique; who thinks to combine a hot dog with peaches and apricots? It's insane, but It's AMAZING! So today I decided to be adventurous and get the duck dog with a peach-apricot compote. First, I love the way they do the roll here. It's a sub roll with a toasted hole that acts as a delicious sheath for the dog, it's genius. Also, they always do a great job of coming up with odd combinations of stuff (chef-dogs) which always makes coming here a pleasant surprise. So anyways, long story short, the hot dog..excuse me...DUCK dog was great. Lots of flavor and it paired so well with the sauce and the toasted bun. It was perfect. By the way, I overheard the owner, who is very nice, saying that he's catering a party soon. Now my Dad and I know who's going to cater our family party!

Today i spent six dollars on a gourmet hot dog. It had tzikiyi sauce on it and it was chicken and spinach. It had a bit too much sauce but it was good. However i dont think it was good enough to spend six dollars on. The girl behind the counter was very nice, she also used a large amount of endearing terms when talking to me such as "sweetie, honey...ETC".

  • Melissa B.

Omg that was the best hot dog I've ever had!! I've driven by countless times n never knew it was here. I don't eat pork so I was a bit worried, but they hav all beef angus hot dogs! Their 'signature' dog comes w a bacon sauce on it, which I asked they omit. Wow, wow, wow! Slightly sweet red sauce w a perfectly tangy n spicy (not too much) horseradish sauce on an amazing, warm, soft roll, fitted perfectly for the dog. All that for $5 even. I'll surely return and recommend!

  • Jen L.

Yum O Yum! This is place was definitely worth the trip! These are not your ordinary hot dogs, these are high end hot dogs. No greasy Chicago Style dogs here. I had the Moroccan Dog which is a chicken hot dog with Tzatziki sauce. It was DELICIOUS! I was actually shocked that they stuffed 2 of those things in the toasted hoagie bun. Come here hungry because you will get a lot of dog! It's a messy one! So take and use all of the napkins! After scarfing down a dog, go next door to Bonjour's for dessert :) Aside from the dessert, health conscious people can even enjoy a hot dog because they are very fresh and you don't have to get the beef hot dogs, they usually have the chicken ones. I loved how they were not greasy and didn't taste like mystery meat. Everyone there will tell you what is in it. I wish hot dogs at the stadiums tasted this good!

4.5 stars We were looking for a place for lunch in the area and thanks to Yelp, we found this little gem. It really is just a cart adjacent to a French pastry/coffee shop. Even though the Royal Farms across the street with its delicious fried chicken is always tempting, I'm glad we stopped here. We shared 3 dogs. 1) The HD signature: it was good, but almost too pedestrian. 2) Maharlika: quite tasty with different flavor combinations 3) Chef's special: duck with peach/apricot chutney... delicious. Real duck flavor with the sweetness was a great combination. So, why the 1/2 star deduction? If you've been to Hawaii and tried Puka dog etc, you will recognize the hot spears they use to cannulate the rolls which creates a pocket for the dog. The bread like others have mentioned is quite good, slightly crunchy and fresh. My problem with this setup is that all the sauce gathers at the bottom as opposed to being spread out over the entire dog. Overall, a minor complaint. The flavor combinations are awesome and definitely a must eat.

  • Kate R.

The hot dogs are fantastic. The flavors are so unique and savory. You really can't make a bad selection. You get a lot of bang for your $5, you'll be full for hours. As good as the hot dogs are, I have to give five stars to the guys who run the cart. I visited today with my son and as soon as we walked up, a guy with a bin of candy offered some to my little boy. He was so friendly and so approachable and that was our FIRST impression before we even ordered. The guy who prepared our food was also so friendly and conversational. We happened to mention that my son will be turning six this coming Wednesday and the gentleman that gave my son a piece of candy insisted that we come back on his birthday and he'll give him a free hot dog. I wish I had gotten their names but I really can't say enough good things about these guys. I love it when people are as friendly and kind and these gentlemen were. That's what will keep me coming back and that's what will have me telling EVERYONE I KNOW to visit this Haute Dog Carte at least once a week. Waistline be damned! I am all for supporting guys like this.

I seen some of the other reviews here which pissed me off. These people who give it better ratings are probably friends or neighbors of this stand. Personally I had several crappy dealings with the stand. Unless your a snob or well dressed, you do not get the respect of this hotdog cart owner or operator. Several times in the past we have stopped there and was treated less then equal. Service was not the same as with other customers who were well dressed or drove a fancy car. After seeing first hand the difference in service from the 3 piece suit guy in front of us to our blue collar dress code with average newer car. We then once took and parked across the street and watched the service and seems that we were not the only ones that were treated this way. I video taped it a while back. Places like this are discriminatory but who wants to take the time to shut them down for discrimination after all it's just a hot dog stand. We go right across the street to Royal Farms and have been doing so since they opened a few years back and you know...... they do not care what you look like, how your dressed or what car you drive, you still get good service, prices are cheaper, food is about the same but the prices are cheaper then the hot dog stand and I have a whole store to chose from.

I am no hot dog expert, but this was a pretty delicious hot dog. We traveled from Ellicott City (about 17 miles) to give this place a try. I will drive for food! Anyway today was super cold outide.....not too fun standing in line outside, but it was only about a 15 min wait. I had the HD which is offered daily, made with onion jam and relish, served inside this huge sub roll/bun. It was quite yummy. My friend got a Buffalo Dog (special of the day). He didn't know what was inside but said it sure was good! For the kid....a simple plain hotdog on a "normal" bun did the trick. I would def return maybe on a warmer day. Wish list: (1) serve beer, (2) seating/there is none, (3) how about a side item like potato salad, fries, or some beans/slaw. I felt like it needed a side dish other than chips. Just my thoughts. Overall a nice, simple, hot dog...worth the drive! FYI: if you friend them on Facebook they list their daily specials.

What's better than a gourmet HAUTE dog? A gourmet HAUTE dog paid for and delivered to you by your senior resident and fellow after they drove 1 hour through snowy baltimore roads in the middle of the work day. NIICE. This is perhaps some of THE BEST hotdogs you will ever eat. This modest shack off of Falls Road is run by a nice owner who individually makes all the food and runs the shack. He is a very nice fellow and gives you that local get to know you feel. DOGS: - the buns are homemade baguette baked fresh next door in the local bakery. The inside is carved into a nicely fitted pocket for the DOG and all the creative ingredients the chef can dream up. - there is a CHEF DOG of the day, be sure to check the website to see unique dog is being served up. HD signaTURE: 1/4lb black agus dog with tomato and onion jam, bacon and onion marmalade, and authentic dijon. c'mon. its amazing. and all the toppings stay INSIDE the bun, no fess, just wonderfulness. After trying the HD signature, try the others. OVERALL: best dogs ever

I LOVE HAUTE DOG. If I used Foursquare, I would be the mayor. I've worked up the street on Falls on and off for years and this is my favorite place to buy lunch hands down. You won't find this service or variety for $5-$7.50 anywhere else. Daniel, the owner, is sweet, attentive, knowledgeable and funny. His employees are also very nice. I go once a week on average since the weeks I don't go are balanced by the weeks I go 3 times (whoops), but I guarantee I've never ordered the same dog twice in a row. They have two unique specialty "chef" dogs available every day on top of their regular dogs (HD Signature, spicy Italian, Maharlika, smoked country sausage). Daniel creates absolutely delicious hot dogs and his chef dogs are very creative: cherry chili bison dogs, super cheese dogs, duck dogs with citrus sauce or foie gras, garlic chicken dogs with hummus, French sausage, andouille sausage, crab dogs, deli dogs, sloppy joe dogs, fajita dogs, lamb with mint chutney, reuben dog...seriously, they are so cool. You can see the chef dogs posted daily on their Twitter, @hautedogDaniel. They also do veggie dogs, but you should call ahead if you are short on time because they take longer to cook than other hot dogs (9 minutes, I think).

A pretty fantastic dog! And that bread... Do they have some sort of connection with the French bakery next door? I'd never expect bread that perfect from an outdoor stand. Once you get to the actual dog it gets even better, and the onion and bacon marmalade put the "HD Signature" dog way over the top. My dog was slightly cold, but it was 32 degrees outside and I assume that contributed significantly. Awesome little place! Looking forward to trying some other menu items.

I like to consider myself a hotdog expert and I think this place is delicious. The folks running the cart are very friendly and the hotdogs are unique and creative pairings stuffed inside a fresh baked bread pocket. The servings are large. Like one reviewer said, you certainly get your money's worth. Speaking of money, it's cash only.

I stopped here after hanging out at Paw Point Park with my puppy. It is across the street from Robert E Lee Park. There was a relatively long line, so I thought the place must be good and worth the wait. I waited about 20 minutes. The line went quick. You could tell the owners were very efficient, while still maintaining a friendly customer service. There is a handful of different hot dogs you can choose from. The large size hot dogs are put in huge warm rolls and then filled with fixings of your choosing. The sauerkraut and spicy mustard are awesome. Highly recommend this joint for anyone in the area. Luckily it was a nice day so we ate the hot dogs outside. Yep, I said we, because dogs eat free! They gave my puppy, Bodhi his own dog. He never had a hot dog before, and gobbled it up. Notes: Cash only. $5 a dog. $6.50 for soda, chips, and dog. Limited seating to the right of the hot dog stand. Overall: Highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood around lunch time to give this place a shot. Tasty/Quality hot dogs, reasonable prices, and first rate friendly costumer service.

I think Stuggy's still has my heart, but, this place is closer, does not involve dealing with shitty Fells Point parking, and the hollowed out baguette instead of a typical hot dog bun is the best thing ever. I had the HD Signature which was awesome. It's a 1/4 lb all beef hot dog in a soft baguette (I assume from the bakery next door) with dijon mustard, tomato and onion jam, and bacon and onion marmalade. I'm drooling just a bit just thinking about it. My fiance had the Spicy Italian, with dijon mustard and red wine vinaigrette, which was good and not spicy despite the description. Probably one of the most filling meals for $5 I've ever had.

  • Santana Ross W.

By far the best hot dogs in Baltimore. I would have to say these are gourmet dogs. I am not a huge fan of hot dogs but I must say this is a good place. It's not your typical hotdog stand. I tried the HD Signature and it was great. Do yourself a favor and try it at least once! However, I wish had extended hours and was in a more comfortable setting. This is the only reason why I gave it four stars. Otherwise, this place is an easy 5.
