Recently moved from my home of los angeles to this very cold east coast (don't ask I'm already regretting it) it was only a matter of time till I started missing my grandmothers cooking. After searching on yelp for the perfect place I settled on Georgia's. My boyfriend and I wanted some soul food and decided we would treat his family to sunday dinner. When we got there the restaurant was almost full and we were worried that there was gonna be a long wait. We were greeted by a very nice young man who quickly took our large order. We order almost everything on the menu including desset. Fried chicken, pork chops, catfish, salsberry steak, mac and cheese, yams, cabbage, mashed potatoes, greens, and corn. For dessert we ordered red velevt cake, yellow cake, sweet potato pie, peach cobbler and banana pudding. We figured it was gonna take them a while to fix all the food because of all we ordered and because the place was almost packed with people waiting. While we were waiting the staff was constantly checking us updating us on our order, even offered us something to drink. We got all our food in 25min. Wow! And it was piping hot. We had a bit of a drive to get to where his family was and I was scared the food would get cold and soggy. NOPE! everything and I mean everything was sooooo good. (Only my boyfriends sister thought the greens were a little salty, but hey you can't please everyone) I will most definitely be back to this place!

I have been here twice now and yes, it is not the fastest service but the food makes up for it. The service takes time because the food is being prepared. I've had the trout, Mac and cheese, and greens and it was all seasoned well. It even made for a delicious lunch the next day. Servings are a good size. I'm a soul food fanatic and Georgia Soul's food is the best I've had outside of my family's kitchen! My husband, who goes around sampling peach cobblers, is in love with the cobbler here. That's saying a lot because he is tough to please. We will be returning over and over again and even got the rewards card.

Pretty good soul food. The mac and cheese was so-so - it was a tad too oily. The chicken wings were nice and crispy but could have used more seasoning. The greens were GREAT, though. Literally perfect. I'd come back if I was in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for this place.

Had the 3 wing dinner w/ Mac and cheese & collard greens as the side. Also had peach cobbler and banana pudding as dessert. Wings were really good & the star of the meal. Greens were cooked well but had no seasoning. Mac & cheese was between ok & good. Don't know how to describe it. Peach cobbler was so sweet that I couldn't eat it. Banana pudding was ok but it was like someone crumbled up the wafers & mixed it in (instead of whole wafers/layered pudding). Would give this place a 3 1/2 if I could.

I am so stuffed, but my peach cobbler is on order. While I wait you will hear about this awesome meal. My husband ate fried chicken that was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. My Salisbury steak was in a savory sauce over rice. Don't get me started on the sides...Mac and cheese, candied yams, corn bread and baked beans. Do you know why we're stuffed? Did I mention the half and half sweet tea? Make sure to top off your meal with this southern favorite.

Best soul food ever! Eating here is such a treat for me. I love the tilapia, chicken, the sides and OMG the cornbread. The cornbread taste like a sweet buttery cake. I've visited several times and I have yet to be disappointed.

Got delivery because I didn't want to cook and it hit the spot. I have to say growing up with home cooked soul food is the only reason I can't give it a 5. Home cooked caters to individual taste buds restaurant cooking has to appease the masses. I got fried chicken, mac n cheese, greens, sweet potatoes, green beans, and potato salad I would order it again in a heartbeat! The delivery didn't take long and the driver was nice. I recommend this place for sure.

*****UPDATE****** GSF has moved and changed their name. The new name is GEORGIA SOUTHERN CHICKEN HOUSE. The new address is 2915 Greenmount Ave., Balt, MD 21218 @29th St.. They have added delivery within a 3 miles radius. The new location is mainly take-out and the menu has gone through some changes.

I'm the last one to throw the "my family is from the South and so is my palette" card on the table when it comes to rating soul food restaurants so please keep that in mind as you read this review of Georgia Soul Food. First I want to say I'm glad they replaced the old soul food place that was here. Can't say that I ever ate there but I can say I walked in there on one occasion, was looked at by the staff but unacknowledged and I proceeded to walk right back out. Customer service here is fine, especially considering I dealt with young gentleman that all appeared to be in their teens. I viewed the menu prices online when this place first opened and wasn't prepared to spend $10 a dish if the food wasn't up to par so when I saw a $20 for $10 Groupon, I jumped on the chance to finally check this place out. I ordered the fried porkchop dinner with greens and macaroni and cheese and also a three side entrée of yams, mashed potatoes and string beans. I asked the staff what the greens were seasoned with and was pleased to learn they used turkey necks (which is what I use). Unfortunately, the greens were bland and I barely detected any turkey neck meat in them (cardinal sin). The yams had too much nutmeg, seemed to lack enough brown sugar and were borderline sour because of it. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were mixed with spoiled milk, I couldn't make it past two spoonfuls. My feelings were hurt on that one. I did favor the string beans and macaroni cheese, neither of those needed any additional seasonings and perfect as is. The fried porkchops were on the other hand were flavorless and extremely chewy as if they had been microwaved. I definitely plan to visit Georgia Soul Food again. The staff were friendly and the dining set up was nice with the games and coloring books on the tables, hinting at a family atmosphere. My hope is that they were having an off day and/or perhaps I just picked the wrong items to get. Hopefully my update to this review will be of a greater eating experience.

We tried this for the first time the other night, Delivery was quick and the food was sooo good! Homemade mac&cheese, real mashed potatoes and amazing chicken and pork chops. Also, the corn muffin was TO DIE FOR. Will definitely be ordering again!

Had it delivered from grub hub, everything was amazing. Had a shrimp basket, mac n cheese, candied yams, potatoe salad, and mashed potatoes. We also ordered the special BBQ sauce for the shrimp which was also delicious. I had the half and half because of another review and it was a perfect addition to this hearty meal.

Walked here to grab some lunch since I tired of the other options nearby. First time eating here and BRO! Delicious. I LOVE soul food sides so I had to try the mac n cheese and yams. Both were on point. I was smashin back at the workplace. The baked chicken was cool too. I got white meat and the breast was a little dry tho but I wasn't mad at the seasoning. I did carry out and food came out promptly. I will definitely be back here.

The food is amazing. My turkey wings' meat was moist and the skin unctuous and satisfying. Green beans were yummy- cooked in good chicken broth and the salt, pepper, red pepper flakes balance was just right. Mac and cheese had good chewy cheddar on top with fatty cream cheese adding body. Free wifi is ultra-fast and the tables are comfortable and welcoming. They just opened so if you come here right now they may have some hiccups as far as what is available and wait time but please be open-minded and order something else. If your order takes a while, give them your cell number and hang out at the Village Library nearby or walk around cool 25th Street for a bit. You'll be glad you tried Georgia Soul out.

As soon as I took a few bites of food, I swore I would immediately write this place a good Yelp review because I just kept saying 'WOW' over and over while stuffing my face. I ordered the fried chicken meal (thigh and leg) with baked beans and mashed potatoes on the side and cornbread. First off, the sound of the crunch of the fried chicken was like heavenly gospel. Once you bit into it, it was fall-off-the-bone tender and juicy and my North Carolinian self was in heaven. Moving on, the baked beans were definitely the best I have ever had. You could tell they were home made and could taste the brown sugar. Absolutely stellar. Mashed potatoes were with real potatoes and the gravy was tasty. Cornbread was sweet and went great with the rest of the meal. Not a fancy place but the food makes up for it ten million percent, absolutely superb. I will be back, for sure.

I am from the deep south and this food was done perfectly to What I except from soul food. Tea is a bit sweet and the yams are a little to sweet also but in the same sentence I recommend them both. Anything you choose is going to be a great choice. Located in a black neighborhood but all colors are welcome so do not let a stereotype help you overlook this gem.

Thank you for bringing southern comfort food to Baltimore! The front staff is always very polite, patient, funny, & professional! The green beans are awesome! I cannot get pass them to try any other veggie. The Mac & cheese is very good as well. The cons: The rest of the food is inconsistent. I have been here 4 times & each time the food gets worse. The fried lake trout was not very fresh and tasted old and dry, the turkey wings are dry( the first time they were succulent and falling off the bone & I was given 2) & I was given only one. The sweet potatoes were too sweet. I like to support local businesses & I am hoping that Georgia Soul will be a mainstay on 25 th street, but there needs to be more consistency with the food.

If only I could give 0 stars...Stay away from this place! The food is disgusting, the workers are dishonest, and the portions are terribly small but expensive. Ordered the fried chicken mall with mac and greens. The chicken tasted old, greens were flavorless, and Mac was just ok. My husband had the veggie meal, Mac n yams. Only there were no yams...So they gave him green beans...which tasted like they were cooked in meat, even though he was told they weren't. Best part of the meal was the cornbread. Drinks are over priced as well. This is a waste of time and appetite.

Can't say I'm happy to give them a bad review. Just disappointed with the whole experience. I went to get a fried chicken dinner had to settle for a chicken box since they were out of legs for a regular chicken dinner. I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese and sat down The wait in the lobby wasn't too bad. After I got my food I was surprised to see that my side of Mac and cheese wasn't in the bag but was told it was inside the box. I opened the box after I got in my car to see and was wholly disappointed. The portions were incredibly small. For the 3.50 i spent on the Mac and cheese it was pretty tiny. It didnt even come past the partitions in the take out box. The flavor was good, but I'm guessing I got the last bit cuz the bottom of the portion was burnt like it was the last bit in the corner of the pan. The chicken itself was very lightly fried. Not very crispy, moist and gummy. It could've taken a couple more minutes in the fryer. The fries were run of the mill and kind of dry. The worst part about it all is that there was no seasoning on the chicken and no salt on the fries. Ill go back a couple of more times to see if the results are the same but as of now this place has some work to do.
