Do not go. From the sign it looks as like it would be an independent brewing company. It is not. The food could be good, it really could. The menu- if prepared correctly and with full intentions could be one of the best airport places to eat anywhere. Having said that, this is an airport food place. It should not take over an hour for chips and guac. The service was awful and they acted so busy when they had four guests. The beer was bad. Food tasted like it was in a can all day.

Hustled over, arms full of bags for food after traveling. Came in at least 10 minutes before closing and was shooed away because they weren't "making any new food". Very rude and inhospitable. Plenty of other people in the place who had just ordered. One man stood up and said they ought to serve us. Waitress then pointed to the exit. Spend your time and money elsewhere.

I had just checked in and found out that my flight was delayed. So we opted to get some food before going through the security checkpoint. I've always seen this place and wanted to try it out. The waitress told us that the kitchen closed at 9p & it was probably around 9:05p when we arrived. There were some other people there who were closing out their bill so I pleaded for her to please let us order some food. We had the pot stickers and the wings along with some Cadillac margaritas. The food did not knock my socks off but it filled my belly and was pretty decent. Many many thanks to the waitress letting us order after the kitchen was closed. I was starving and the good service and food hit the spot!

Cold soup, dried out burger, super expensive beer. One star for good service & fresh salad.

Our flight out of bwi was delayed so we decided to stop by duclaw for dinner. Amazing staff! Stacey and Jaime (Edward) took great care of us. Great customer service! The food was delicious! I ordered the garden salad with steak and it was just the right amount of bacon bits, and the steak was cooked to perfection! Will definitely come back next time I fly out of BWI.

Having finally retrieved my bags at 8:00 PM and needing to be back at the airport by 4:30 the next morning for the final leg of my flight, my dinner options were relegated to what was available in the airport, so I was glad to find Duclaw outside of security. As far as airport brewpubs go, I liked having seven taps to choose from. And though the beers were mostly pretty predictable - blonde, red ale, IPA, etc. - they were good examples of their respective styles all around, and I was glad to have them. I also had a burger. Got the job done, though nothing spectacular.

Overpriced, slow service, poorly prepared food... What did they get right? Asked the bartender if we could watch the capitals game, she handed us the remote 20 minutes later and said "here see if you can find it." Then another bartender came up and changed the channel two seconds later....

I ordered the brisket sandwich with the homemade chips. It was awful, cold and tasted like old roast beef. The meat was tough, you couldn't bite it. The chips were overcooked, some were burnt. The beer was mediocre. I wouldn't eat here if it was free.

Terrible service, bartender was very argumentative. Love this chain but will not stop at the BWI one.

This place is filthy. They cleaned the table twice and we still had to wipe our seats clean. The service is not good. Heath department should inspect this place. Never again. The salad we sent back was mostly, what seemed like old lettuce. The queso is little more than bad cheese wiz with some peppers.

I have to thank Southwest Airlines. I had no idea they had a policy where they would not accept checked bags more than four hours before a flight. In fact, I've since researched their website, their baggage FAQs, baggage policies, etc., and found no mention of such a restriction. I'm sure it's in the fine print somewhere, plain as day. Regardless, it meant that I had to adjust my plans and keep my bags with me for a little while at BWI. So I moseyed to the closest bar and decided that for such a special occasion, I could go head and start drinking at 10:00 am. DuClaw's local beers were truly impressive. The Serum IPA was remarkably bitter (claims about a note of sweetness were not perceptible to me), but the most important thing is that they were not lying about the high alcohol content. Less angry about Southwest, I sampled one of the best porters I've had and a fantastic brown ale with hints of caramel that finished off a lovely morning waiting for Southwest to agree to transport my luggage. I didn't try the food, so I can't speak to that. But I had relaxed, attentive service, exceptionally good (if very expensive) beer, a nice atmosphere,* and a pleasant morning at the airport. I left calm, content, and ready to be thoroughly and invasively searched by airport security simply because I wished to travel from one place to another as a citizen. Definitely worth a stop before your flight. * One positive side effect of aging is my cohort now has enough money to spend that bars and restaurants are more likely to play music I like. I look forward to enjoying this decade where they have to pretend my tastes are still cool.

Mediocre at best. I had the pecan salad and pot stickers. The restaurant was very busy as is expected at an airport restaurant. The server was very friendly and prices were a bit high for bar food. The pecan salad wasn't that good. The potstickers were tasty but definitely frozen. I would not go back unless nothing else was available.

Great bar. Didn't try the food but the beer and service were great. Definitely a must try if you have time before a flight. The sampler is a great deal and gets you ready for a flight, if you know what I mean. We also got to spend more time drinking and make our plane faster because the bartender told us a little trick she knew to get to our gate faster. A completely positive experience.

I have stopped here a few times whlie waiting for my fellow travlers to arrive prior to getting picked up. I have also opted to eat here when I arrive well ahead of time before my flight. I have never seen it packed like the two other sit-down places in BWI (southwest terminal) tend to be. The prices are on par, if not better, than the other locations. I actually like the food better AND they have some good beer. The service is always quick and friendly and they certainly understand you are in an airport and have a schedule to follow. I look forward to hitting this place each time I travel through BWI

Slooooowwwww and really felt to be bothering the staff by stopping in. Sandwich and fries served almost 15 minutes apart- could have cooked them at least 2X while waiting!

  • John S.

It has been an hour and a half with no food. Getting ready to bolt to the gate with nothing to show for it. Horrible. Waitress meant well but this was a bust. Manager never came out to see us. All around zero stars. Update: management never contacted us, showing their contempt for customers who don't have many airport dining choices.

Had to fly out of BWI this past week which was a huge pain to get through the check-in line at Southwest. It was made better though by stopping at this place just outside of security. It is a local breweries taproom type restaurant. SCORE! They had 7 craft beers on draft plus 3 typical American mass produced beverages. I tried both of the IPAs which were pretty decent. Great for airport bevvies. I got some wings and fries too which were quite tasty too. The food menu is extensive also.

The Jamaican Jerk Chicken is dry!! But the crab cake pretzel was good! Also the turkey melt is good as well.

  • Melissa T.

Food was decent but the service was terrible. The waitress was constantly on her phone, forgot to bring our food and just rude. She would clean tables by moving all the dirty dishes to another table rather than taking to the back. Won't go back.

My early morning flight was oversold, leaving me wandering about BWI for a whopping 12 hours with a puppy. At some point, I just needed a beer, so after our 6th trip to the pet relief area outside the hourly parking garage (which is wonderful - and better than the pet area at the end of Concourse E near the light rail). I plopped down in a booth and ordered a Serum IPA - good, but not spectacular, and a little weak for a beer that is allegedly double-hopped. I ordered a half rack of ribs just to give my puppy a bone or two, and although I was disappointed, she was thrilled. That was the most expensive meal she's has ever had. The cold, sad french fries weren't worth a second bite and I've had better coleslaw from the Safeway deli. Don't bother with this place unless you are totally desperate for a beer outside security.

    (2)
  • John F.

I would pass on this place as your food choice but the beer was good. Great service. Had the jerk chick, which turned out to be poor. Cool unique beer collection. It's sort of cool that it's outside of security so it offers a pre-security restaurant choice.

After finding out I had a three hour flight delay, I decided I had enough time to sit down at DuClaw and finally give them a try. Let me say this first: GOOD BEER IS MEANT TO BE ENJOYED SLOWLY. If you can't get over that and you're entering what is essentially a microbrewery location, then you can go enjoy the BWI food court for some faster food and drinks. And boy is the beer good! I went for the sampler, the best in my mind is the Euforia toffee nut brown ale, I wish they sold it with ice cream as it would make a delicious float. The rest of the sampler had a wide variety of drinkable options, and a very heavy 9% douple IPA (Serum) that had an interesting creamy mouthfeel and a definite strength. The food was equally great. I ordered two appetizers off the list which was well more than enough for a full dinner for two. The Crab Pretzel is indeed something to be famous for, and the veggie flatbread was also well executed. Set aside at least an hour (two to be safe), and the late evenings are the best time. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews, perhaps it's a case of only the ones that didn't enjoy it remembered to review it...

Been her six times and service varies greatly. I finally just started paying cash instead of credit here because of how spotty the servers are at coming around and bringing you the check. All I can say is that if you are in a hurry, be sure to tell the bartender or your waitress and just pray. One trip I just threw down a $10 on a $20 bill and walked away as waiting 15 minutes for a check after asking for it is unacceptable when the bartender is standing around talking to the staff. Food is good enough and no issues there. A few sandwiches and burgers to choose from.

Beer before a flight... Do tell! (3.5 star review) So first off DuClaw's is before security, so if you get to the airport early or have a delay and you like good beer then you have to check this place out! I have been here almost a dozen times now and decided it was time to finally write a review. The first I like about DuClaws is that there is actually some room. Since it is outside security the tables and even bar have more space than places inside. Ok enough on to the reason you are here.... Beer! DuClaw's a brewery with some killer beer, each is brewed expertly and their tastes run the whole spectrum. The only issue have with this DuClaw in regards to beer is that they are not owned by DuClaw and they do not carry the seasonal beers. So there beer is pretty much the standard DuClaw set. I have asked for seasonal beers on occasions to only be let down :(. But try the beer it is great. a Solid 4 stars! The service at DuClaw's has been good. I can't complain and sometimes it has been stellar, in regards to how quick and attentive they are. So they don't really lose any stars for service and there beer is top notch minus the no seasonal! 4 Stars The reason I am not giving DuClaw's 4 stars is the food. The food ok, but then again you are at airport its not like you can run out to your fav. food place... you are stuck here haha I have tried a bunch of items at this DuClaws and the food is ok, my concern is mainly with the mediocrity and price of the food. The food its self isn't too expensive its the add-on's. My wife and I got chips and salsa and added a small plastic container of queso and it turned out the cheese was almost the same price as the chips and salsa! so that is a big turn off. Side note: DuClaw's is RIGHT next to the security line so it makes super easy to judge when you need to get the check and jump into line. (also dont forget about the security line downstairs! So over all DuClaw's gets 3.5 stars. The beer and service lead the way but their food and prices lag a little behind! but I highly recommend DuClaws's for any tired travelers or anyone just starting their vaca!! So cheers friends and was that last call or your name being called for your flight!! Bottoms up!

Doesn't deserve a Star at all... Beer lines were not clean. Salsa was bad; not poor quality, rancid. Servers bickered the entire time. No management. Save yourself and hit the Observation Deck Food Court.

  • Robert T.

The service is terrible!! Waited for thirty minutes before the waitress got our drink order and another hour before we got out food. The only reason this restaurant got two stars is because of the beer!!! If you must go here, sit at the bar and just drink the beer!!!

  • M H.

Skip the food, go directly for the beers instead. The sampler gives you a nice variety. Its located outside of the security screening area, by Southwest Airlines. Good spot to stop into if you're early for your flight or are waiting for your ride from the airport.

If you're going to eat here and you're in a hurry, try to eat at the bar - food was coming out about ten minutes from people putting food orders in. Tables were less speedy. For an airport eatery, the grub isn't special, though the portions aren't skimpy. That said, the beer selection was interesting, and from the local area, which is better than macro-macro. I had the Misfit Red (rated Baltimore's best beer, according to a banner sign claim), and a Sawtooth (witbier) that was actually a crisp, highly drinkable session beer that I'd seek out again. All in all, expectations are typically low in airports - this was good enough to warrant three stars on a not-in-an-airport scale, and that's pretty decent for checking your bag and finding a place to kill time. This worked well.

Below average food in BWI airport... Had a salad and quality was poor. The only saving grace for this place was the service...it was friendly. But wouldn't recommend or return

I know that airport food isn't the best and I run a very popular restaurant in Boston so I try not to be critical when I fine at places like this... But I have to say this place is the worst out of all of the airport restaurants that I've been to - and I travel a lot. I ordered the buffalo strips but only wanted half of them with sauce, they came out with none and I was told "I asked him and he wouldn't do it". I ordered a medium steak and received a fatty, well done slab of crap that I wouldn't even feed my dog... Literally-I was traveling with my dog. Service was great but they need a new chef.

Very slow service! Took the longest time for someone to come to our table and to get our food. Had to seat ourselves. My mom had to get her food to-go in fear of missing her flight. The fish and chips had an after-taste. I would never go back even if its close to security.

  • David O.

DuSlow! As the better half pointed out in her review, we were LUCKY that our 1 hour layover was "Promoted" to a 2 hour layover, because we would NOT have made our flight. Perhaps the problem was that everyone else at DuClaw was ALSO waiting on a delayed flight, but if you are going to have an Airport restaurant, one expects more prompt service or something that lets you know how long your wait is going to be. Service aside, the food itself was good and under other circumstances I would recommend it, but if you are in a hurry, this is probably not the place for you.

  • Kyle B.

Great service at the bar! I was greeted right away and the bartender was very kind. She checked in regularly to ensure I was good to go. She was very nice to everyone around me as well. The food is on par with the duclaw in Arundel hills. The beer is just as good. Good place to kill time before going through security!

It's airport food. At least it's a local group. The food is exactly what you expect: fried yet still somewhat flavorless. The beers are local brews and a bit more interesting. I think my favorite is their red beer, but I don't recall any of the names. They rotate a seasonal brew through. All their beers are more malty than hoppy, even the high-gravity "Serum." I haven't seen a wide variety in flavors in their beers, but that's not a bad thing in itself. All of them are quite smooth and pretty satisfying. One good point is that the people here are quick with the check when you ask. Many airport workers dawdle and run you later and later... DuClaw's outside security, so keep an eye on your time. BWI's lines can grow long quickly. Note that the Boingo hotspot here *never* has worked for me. There are low-level wireless association errors; likely either the hardware of firmware of the router is busted. Been this way for over a year as of April, 2011. I end up hanging off the free AT&T hotspot just within range.

Ok little place to stop and have a beer pre security checkpoint American Airlines or Southwest Airlines. Food is meh... Tried the pretzel with crab. Meh... Overpriced beer, didn't really care for the microbrews. Stick with the regulars

What a terribly slow experience! We had a 2-hour layover and decided to meet a local friend here for dinner since it's on her side of security and not too far for us to go back through security. Luckily our plane was an hour late because there's no way we would have gotten out of this restaurant in time to make our flight. How does it take 2 hours for sandwiches and drinks? The place was busy but not bustling. I don't know how people who have flights can work this into their schedule. I will say that the food was good, though. I had the Turkey Melt and homemade chips, and I would get it again if I knew that the service was faster. Such a disappointment!

My girlfriend and I went to DuClaw in the BWI airport (my favorite place to fly) for dinner on my most recent birthday. We were pressed for time and had no other true dining options before catching a plane in about an hour. The DuClaw brewing co. is conveniently located right between terminals A and B check-ins, wedged among the baggage check lines for southwest air and other airline check-in locations. However, DuClaw contains no restroom of its own, nor one all that nearby, which meant that getting up from the table was somewhat burdensome. Also, there was a single outlet in the entire restaurant and bar area to charge one's phone. It was not very accommodating for an airport lounge, and though there were hooks for jackets or small bags under the bar, comfort space was lacking in this little joint. The menu seemed sufficient, and the price was fair (under $9 for most sandwiches, salads, etc.). I was looking forward to a quick and satisfying meal even though the bar was soaked (hopefully just water, but still unappealing). We asked the bartender a very legitimate question before being served. Would we be okay on time, as we had to leave in exactly half an hour? He would encourage us to stay but not to order any gourmet steaks. I don't think there was anything gourmet on this menu but his snarkiness was uncalled for especially as he proceeded to ignore us for most of the meal; while we needed our food delivered and then our check sent down, the whole time he was yak yaking on the phone, presumably about business because he did so while looking at his menu screen and bar apparatus. Other bartenders and employees appeared to stare right through us whenever we tried to get anyone's attention for the bill. Unfortunately, my spinach salad left a lot to be desired. It was overwhelmed by the heaping pile of freshly dried spinach and its spicy "honey" dressing, but contained few other ingredients to speak of, namely a hard boiled egg cut into quadrants and a handful, a small hand, of miniature mushrooms, and a chopped onion. A good spinach salad usually contains numerous other ingredients, like heavy on the cheese please, and is more moist. I don't even think mine came with cheese. The "applewood bacon" on the menu was replaced by something that resembled canned bacon bits. I made the salad somewhat more satiable by dumping my GF's hot salsa into it for flavor. I also tasted some of her chicken quesadilla. I am not a huge quesadilla fan at restaurants because I am always concerned they won't make it correctly. It can be rather difficult to find a truly outstanding one. The quesadilla here was so thin in the crust that it could not be picked up; it sort of crumbled. So it was all out of sorts. The chef was sloppy with the quesadilla, putting each of the three main ingredients in separate pouches to be tasted separately instead of nicely blended. My GF had to reassemble her quesadilla the correct way before it was eaten. When the bill came, it showed an extra $2.99 for the chicken, whereas the bartender had indicated that the upcharge would have been "only two dollars." Because the quesadilla had been so out of sorts, and because I like principles, we asked for the bill to be corrected. With our complaint, I expected the charge to come off entirely, but I must be crazy now to think that this restaurant would owe us even that much. DuClaw obviously doesn't care if anybody comes back to them or not. Their business is pretty much guaranteed, being the only place you can pull up in terminal A and grab a meal and drink... if you have a lot of time to kill that is.

Definitely not as nice as their Arundel Mills location, but DuClaw beats all other restaurants at BWI in the Southwest terminal. They have many of the same food choices as their other locations but service suffers a bit, as I have come to expect in airports. You can't get the tower of onion rings for an appetizer but they do offer the signature beer-battered onion rings with entrees for the steep upgrade price of $2.50. Regarding service, it was slow and in an airport it seems it should intuitively be prompt. Also, our waiter in an effort to show off tried to flip the bottle of ketchup in the air just before placing it on the table. He flipped it but failed to deliver it so that means he picked up the ketchup container off of the ground and placed it on our table. I'm not a germaphobe but that just seems gross. The same great DuClaw brews are served at the airport location and they have plenty of TVs to catch the game. Just note that DuClaw is outside of the security checkpoint.

Conveniently located outside security, so you can visit regardless of which terminal you need. But this place is entirely too slow if you have an hour or less and actually want to eat a meal. I have a feeling that beer and appetizers are easy and quick, but we ordered lunch and it was 40 minutes from the time we ordered to the time the food came to the table. When it did finally arrive, the tuna sandwich (which was supposed to be seared rare, according to the menu) was overdone. We sent it back and got another just in time to box it and take it to the gate. The child's burger was a sad frozen patty, the teriyaki chicken was flavorless, and the salad with Buffalo chicken strips looked like a bagged salad with microwaved chicken tenders sliced and put on top. This place is great for a beer before or after your flight, but don't bother with the food, especially if you're on a schedule!

I enjoyed the beer; especially the sampler (you can see all my reviews of them on MyDrinkOfChoice [dot] com). My favorite brew from them would have to be the Bare Ass Blonde Ale. Turning to the food; this is were things get - ummm - average. I had the center cut pork chops, vegetable medley and french fries. I swear it was almost like the hostess took my order, walked into the kitchen and walked right back out with the food; it was really fast. Normally, I do not complain about "fast service" and I suppose in an airport, fast service is probably a good thing. But to me, it means that the food has been sitting under a heat lamp or something. It was just ok, nothing more than that. Had I known that BWI had a very impressive food court past their security check-point, I would have probably drank beer at DuClaw and ate inside the gate. The one thing I will say is that the location is ideal for them. Right next to the AirTran ticket counter and very tempting because A) there is home brews being served and B) the XM radio is belting out some fantastic classic rock tunes! I would give that combination 5-stars! Too bad they serve just average food.

I've been stuck at the Baltimore airport numerous times for long period of time and we all know how airports can be. But Duclaw made it better. Free wifi (i have found the signal is really good in this area), really nice servers, and a decent menu for airport food. Also, beer. :) It makes the pain of airport delays a lot better.
