Yes, it's in a hospital. Yes, it's part of a food court. But-- It's GREAT!! If I'm downtown for a meeting at UMB, and it's lunchtime, It's either here, Kirbys', or Lexington Market. Very good, affordable Middle-eastern style food. I LOVE their crispy-chewy huge falafel balls, zingy tahini sauce, rich, peppery gyro meat w/fluffy fresh pita bread, fresh Greek salad tossed with lots of yummy crumbled feta...it's good! Really, really good! Makes sitting in a hospital cafeteria actually enjoyable!!!

WOW... cant say enough about Cypriana's!! Started going there when it was a food cart on Baltimore St. across from Alex Brown in the 90's. They then graduated to an iside cafe and now at U of MD. Food is always fresh and delicious. Chicken & Feta Gyro is to die for!! Plenty of flavorful grilled chicken and just the right amount of feta, that AWEOME tarragon taziki sauce, onions, etc. Maria is always friednly and helpful as well as her staff. I wish they would open one down my neck of the woods in Annapolis!! Oh well, until then, I'll make the trek up to B-Town. The only thing I miss is the slightly char-grilled pita that the food cart would use for their gyros... gave it that extra little something!

This is a cool little Greek sandwich shop in the main level of the UofM medical center. If you don't want the cafeteria food across the hall, this is a great option. We went late at night with the family after a very stressful day of waiting on my mom's surgery. Most of the cafeteria was closed so we went here. I was initially worried we were all going get something not very good, but it was very delicious and clean. The staff is very polite.

A waste of money on bad food and bad service. I called to place my order about noon from work and specifically asked if the lamb platter was lamb or gyro meat. I was told lamb so I placed the order and picked it up without checking. Got back to the lunch room at work and saw gyro meat. Called Cypriana and was told that's it's the same thing. When I said I specifically asked because I did not want gyro meat, I was told that I could bring it back for a refund and she hung up on me! I called back, told her I did not appreciate being hung up on and that I wanted something else. No apology whatsoever! Ordered the grilled chicken platter, specifying white meat. Picked it up and was told that the gyro meat is lamb. I told her she did not tell me that when I called as I would not have ordered it. She continued to argue with me. Certainly defeated the purpose of ordering ahead as I had to make two trips! The grilled chicken platter was container full of iceberg lettuce, 2 rings of green pepper, 3 rings of red onion, 2 olives, 2 halves of a cherry tomato and about 2 tablespoons of feta cheese; 5 small pieces of COLD chicken breast (not enough to comprise 1/4 of a chicken breast) and 4 thin wedges of potato. Came with salad dressing on the side and a cold 1/2 pita. The chicken was dry. The potato was boiled and not fresh tasting. There were pieces of brown mushy lettuce present. Basically what I got was a salad with chicken for $8.33. Horrible customer service. Horrible value for the money!

I also used to go to Cypriana when they operated out of a food cart on Baltimore Street and then inside at a couple of places they had along the way on Baltimore St. I thought they closed for good when I no longer seen them at Baltimore and Calvert. Then one day I was at Univerisity of Maryland and seen they had moved there. I finally got around to having lunch and trying what I had always gotten in the past which is the rotisserie breast with potatoes and salad. I was very dissappointed in the flavor. It used to be so good. The chicken was bland, the potatoes hard on one side and undercooked on the other. The only thing that was worth eating was the salad and that isn't worth $7.57. Oh well.

So I was in the U of Maryland Hospital and was in a little rush. Of all the places in the food court, this was the place with the shortest line... so I went, not knowing if there was no line because I was just lucky or because everybody was avoiding this place. Fortunately, for me, my luck was with me that day and the food here wasn't that bad! I picked up a small soda (which really is more like a medium sized cup) and a gyro. Note that they advertised a gyro combo that had a gyro, a drink, and chips for $7.99 (if I remember correctly)... which was the exact same price I paid after tax for the soda and gyro. So... if you're gonna get the gyro and a drink, just go with the combo. The time to make the food was average. It wasn't too slow but it wasn't exactly fast either. The gyro though, was HUGE. I don't even know how to begin to describe this monstrosity. It seemed to be about twice the size of an average gyro... and if you have no idea what an average gyro size is... then we can say it was bigger than your average Chipotle burrito! You could easily split this between two people.... but you'd probably find that you'd make a big mess doing so. As is, I made a small disaster zone on my table--the gyro is stuffed with lettuce, onions, and sauce and easily falls out. There was a good amount of meat too, which was a tad bit saltier than I'd have liked but was still within the acceptable limits of good tasting gyro meat. The pita was pleasantly chewy with a hint of sweetness to it. My only gripe is that the way the worker made the gyro was such that the lettuce was towards the top of the gyro and the meat was towards the bottom. Okay, okay.... so this is normal of all gyros and normally it wouldn't be a problem... but this gyro was so big that you couldn't really get the meat and the veggies in the same bite. Not a big deal though. At any rate, while it wasn't the best gyro I've had in Baltimore, it is in a convenient location (if you work or go to school nearby) and was absolutely filling. Be prepared to share, to save some for later, or just eat it all and have a massive food coma afterwards!

I guess my review is for their gyro. Not much flavor. Ingredients tasted fresh. Good service. But meh.

It was bad. The women at the cash register was lazy. She didn't produce a cup for my beverage after I paid. Then even the cook didn't say my order was ready. There were not a lot of people there, so the whole process could have been a little more courteous. It was 5:00 p.m Then when I went to get a top for my drink there were not any lids organized. I asked the lazy cashier, and she replied, ' look behind the rest of the tops.' So I looked, and she said keep looking. Then had the unprofessional audacity to say, 'oh i mentioned that to the other workers yesterday.' My seven dollar gyro the head of lettuce your business put on it.. Then I said to her you are dealing with doctors and patients. She doesn't know who could grace her lazy presence. I reiterated if, the service is this poor is the food safe? Gosh, such a super opportunity for a great business. There are people everyday who work hard for an opportunity serve others great food! I hope who ever owns this place wakes up to find better employees!

Why oh why do restaurants think it's okay to serve falafel that has clearly been sitting in a tray for hours? If you go into a restaurant and order a burger, they cook it while you wait. I will never understand why this common vegetarian fast-food equivalent gets treated like it's meant to be served cold, hard, and dry. Falafel is a zillion % better when it's fresh and hot. Is it really so hard to throw a few balls in the fryer when someone orders? C'mon. First world problems I know. The other common pitfall that Cypriana's falafel falls into is that the only discernible flavor is cumin. The hummos also fails big time -- lumpy mashed chick peas with no tahini, no lemon, no oil or any attempt to give it an appetizing flavor or texture. Their "middle eastern" food is a joke. I'm giving 2 stars because they are quick, nice, and their waffles look amazing.

Used to go to this location in the hospital while in grad school at neighboring U of MD. Before that, used to go to the location on Baltimore Street near the courthouse. Always yummy. Favorite was the greek salad with gyro meat. It is enormous. Good quality ingredients and the tarragon dressing was killer. Even the rice pudding was good, which they sometimes just gave away in small containers. They also have a lunch club - buy 10, get the 11th free. Sigh...missing these gems in Baltimore.

I used to go to Cypriana when they were in the Sun Trust Building on Baltimore St. Miss them. My go to choice is their Falafel Pita. It's huge, stuffed with tender on the inside, crisp-fried on the outside, flavorfully spiced and cumin-y falafels (at least 4) and fresh crunchy, cool toppings, def get the hot sauce and start with a fork. Will def stop in if I'm down UMMS way.
