Great place! The owner is so nice and knows her stuff. I am not a scotch drinker, but my friend is and enjoyed this place alot.. If you're like me, you'll be pleased to know they have a great beer selection as well, I recommend the Brown Nut Ale. This is a wonderful place if you would like to have a quiet spot for good conversation and drinks.

I'm not a scotch drinker by any means but the boy likes it. He loved this little joint so he took me there: the only person behind the bar was the owner, an older, lovely woman, and her little dog, which seemed a bit grumpy that night. It's a very quiet establishment with absolutely no television, other than the old little piece sitting up high that I'm not even sure works. The music was on at a very low volume, which I greatly appreciated. There is a spacious-looking backroom in which you could sit and sip your drink, but I didn't venture back there. I don't know if I'll be back; the boy vows to turn me into a scotch drinker so... then again he also vows to make me a football (Skins) fan. Pahaha. Yeah.

Love this place. Outstanding scotch selection that is reasonably priced, and they even had a scotch not on the list that I really like and happened to ask about. The owners are super nice people that I could probably just go in there solo and hang with them for a few hours. I usually sit in the back, though, which feels like your parent's basement. I've never felt so comfortable in a bar. Best in the winter when the fire is going. Wish they had longer hours, but probably smart all the same that they send me home a little early, due to the generous pours. Never incredibly busy when I've been in there, which is a nice change from the sometimes hustle and bustle of Fells Point.

Excellent scotch selection? Check. No television? Check. Ragtime & Jazz played very lightly and unobtrusively in the background? Check. I absolutely love this place. My wife & I came here on my first trip to Baltimore, back before we moved to the neighborhood. The owner was incredibly friendly, and very knowledgeable about what she serves. She introduced us to the other patrons who were there. A little while later a pizza delivery arrived, and they all retired to a room in the back with a sofa and some chairs, by a cozy fireplace. We were just going to stay up front, but she insisted we come back with them and share their pizza. So there we were...complete strangers in a new city...and these people took us in like we were one of them. It felt really nice. I've only had a few experiences like that in life, and I definitely cherish them.

Excellent collection of scotches. Prices are reasonable as well. The crowd is friendly and there's no loud music or TV. I'm deducting one star because the slow service. In all fairness, the bar does get crowded on weekends and the slow service is just a by product of that.

Very friendly staff, whiskey / scotch selections are larger than anywhere in Fells Point / Canton area (Southern Living Magazine states they offer more than 120 single malts). Previously my friends and I came here and without no explanation the doors were locked at 8pm on a Saturday. So a few weeks later we tried again, but we walked into an empty bar. Unfortunately there is no longer food service and we were told a recent group left to grab a bite away from the restaurant. The menu can be a lot for someone to take in if they are not a scotch drinker, which made our experience slightly overwhelming. We chose a 12 year single malt ( sorry I forgot the name) and like anything that has been carefully aged, my choice was excellent for someone with my inexperience. Prices are a fair for the selection, but slightly over priced. Though this is than different from of my normal drinking hole, this experience was still great and worth visiting for anyone or connoisseur - 4 stars.

This place is a die hard Whiskey bar. Now, don't be shy and think that you don't belong here just because you don't know a lick of Whiskey. On the contrary, the lady that runs the shop will gladly recommend a glass based off your personal preference. The few things that I miss from my earlier travels here, is that it became too popular over the past couple of years. It's not a bad thing, but sometimes you wished that you could just drink said Whiskey in a more private manner.

If you are looking for someplace different than the new large trendy places encroaching around the water in Baltimore or the great, divey but all very similar bars in Fells Point, AND you like Whiskey or Scotch, take a stroll over this way. The atmosphere is cozy, comfortable, quiet, very unassuming, small and intimate. There is no trendiness or pretense here. This place has had the same owner for decades and has a wealth of knowledge about any of the spirits if you have any questions (She also has quite a few interesting stories). Even if you are not a scotch or whiskey drinker, there are other options here. This is a fantastic place to unwind and decompress by yourself or with a group of friends. We will definitely make it a point to re-visit.

To be clear, I'm not a whiskey drinker. I've tried to like it, but simply cannot. So this review is not so much about the drinks as it is about the service and ambiance. My bf and I stopped by on a Saturday night. It was quaint, small, and incredibly comfortable (like I was in someone's cozy home). The crowd was local and more mature (definitely not the typical Fells Point bar crowd). And the lady behind the bar was friendly and gave VERY generous pours. Perhaps that's why I think she's friendly? Hmmm.....anyhow, besides their Whiskey menu, they also had a short list of beer and wine options. I had a glass of Zindafel and for $4, I don't really have a reason not to like it.

This is a unique establishment that has the finest scotch served by a very knowledgeable bartender. I love the atmosphere here. It is a nautical themed bar and fits in very well with historic Fell Point. The backroom is also cool. It feels like sitting in your grandmother's basement - in a good way - if that makes sense! Big plus - the pours are generous!

  • Tue J.

Excellent atmosphere, great selection of whiskeys served in generous portions, and bartenders who understand that their customers are there to socialize. An environment that lends itself to engaging with other patrons. Will be my go-to after-work bar for my stay in Baltimore.

Great place for whiskey/scotch. Great bartender - she has been running the place on her own for 20-30 years. She practically knows all the drinks and even what is happening outside her establishment. If you need recommendation for a drink, coming in for something new or coming as a newbie, go on ahead and ask her for her recommendation. If you need places to eat at, she also knows the restaurants around Fell's Point and even the owners. When you enter, the places looks extremely tight and tiny, but there is a backroom if you keep walking to the back towards the restrooms. When you go in, get your drinks first and then head to the back. There are tables, couches, grandfather sofas, everything! Just hang out there, chat with your friends and relax with your glass of whiskey in your hand. The prices here are pretty great. The owner also is very generous with pouring drinks. Got "two" shots (actually a double shot size) for $14.

My new home away from home in Baltimore. I love the great Scotch selection, helpful and friendly bartender and the comfortable living room in the back. Great pours and an old Baltimore feel makes this place a winner. I didn't even miss the techno beat and ravers that one finds in many other downtown establishments.

I love the place and the owner, Alicia is awesome. Huge selection of great whiskey from the owner who know everything to know about whiskey!!! Not to shy about how she pours the shots.

Super quaint Scottish pub! It's a mom and pop pub with a mega list of Scottish whiskies. I ordered an Irish beer and it was nice and crisp. You don't have to drink whiskey, just ask the bartender (the owners) what they recommend. They also have a back room for groups. Come here for a quiet drink with friends. Pro-tip: perfect for a first date drink.

  • Dan G.

I love this place. The only complaint I would be able to make is that there really isn't any food served here to compliment your Scotch (outside of potato chips lol) - but I don't think food is the point of this place in the slightest. This is one of the largest Scotch collections on the east coast I've been told (outside of NYC) so the selection is dizzying. I really enjoy coming here and chilling out on the couches that are in the back. Alicia (the proprietor) is quite literally one of the only people that I will let pick out a Whiskey for me. She is a wonderful and incredibly interesting woman that can certainly talk your ear off about Scotch! She doesn't skimp on your Scotch either - we're talking 2-3 fingers depending on how big yours are lol Strike up a conversation with the people here as this place is popular with the locals in Fells.

I can't really explain a 5 star review for this place, but there it is. This is a very divey place on Aliceanna that you might miss as you walk by... but.. go in... don't freak out and leave right away... but go in and stay a bit. It has such a warmth and charm. The owner is a lovely woman who pours with a heavy hand. The decor reminds me of things that a wife may not let her husband hang up on the walls at home (and there's an old metal Garfield trashcan!) And, if you are into ghosts, there is definitely a spirit in the ladies room ;)

  • J P.

A wide selection of some of Scotland's finest offerings. Come here if you want to enjoy your whiskey in a calm, welcoming environment. No loud music or annoying patrons. The owner is the bartender, and she knows her trade. Generous pours. Respectable prices on some of the more "harder to find" scotches. Great place to go to not only learn about scotch itself, but also to learn what type of scotch drinker you would be!

I really want to keep this place as a little secret because it is THAT GOOD. The minute I walked in, I felt right at home--which is saying a lot, given it was my 2nd time visiting Baltimore. I was on my own for the night, but quickly made friends at the bar-- swapping sips of different scotch selections, discussing which we liked best, etc. The owners are very kind, and while they may seem a bit tight-lipped at first, when they open up and start sharing stories, you'll want to listen for hours. I ordered Jura 10 and it was a 5 oz. pour for less than $9. I don't think you can beat that anywhere on the East Coast. Not in any major city, at least. It's an incredible place & it makes you want to become a sailor. There's no question I'll be back here soon.

Birds of a feather flock together... and I'm pretty sure all the scotch/whisky connoisseurs in Baltimore flock here. And for good reason: it is a gem of a bar in Baltimore. It's certainly not your typical bar. The interior is calm and inviting with its beautiful woods and warm lighting. Classical music plays in the background. It's incredibly easy to strike up a conversation with the owner or other patrons... there is a kind of camaraderie that is shared between everyone there--after all, by just being there, you are implying you appreciate the art and nuances of scotch (or are at least willing to learn). Of course, all of this could lead to a stuffy, pretentious atmosphere... but Birds of a Feather avoids that. According to the website, there are over 120 scotches to pick from. The menu has the scotches listed by geography and even has a taste map that categorizes your scotch by its characteristics. It can be a little overwhelming if you don't have a good knowledge of scotch and whiskey. It was for me at least. But no worries, I talked to the owner/bartender who asked a few questions on what I liked and what I didn't like and proceeded to recommend and pour a Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old whisky. She was right on point. I had wanted something lighter and less peaty and the Dalwhinnie was malty and was even a little on the fruity side. All the while, the bartender/owner would tell some interesting stories about her life. With all due respect to Dos Equis, the "Most Interesting Man in the World" doesn't seem that interesting anymore. The prices for the whisky obviously vary but I believe mine was somewhere in the $10 range (a friend paid for the drink so I don't remember exactly). I suppose on one hand you can consider that a little pricey. On the other hand, if you want to try lots of different types of single malts, it's definitely a lot cheaper to try this than to buy an expensive bottle and realize you don't like what you just bought. I liked this place. It had a very different vibe than your typical Baltimore bars and is truly a gem in the Fells Point area.

They say "Birds of a feather flock together" I never knew what that expression meant until I entered this hot spot. THIS PLACE HAS EVERYTHING, a VIP lounge, a VUP lounge, and a ghost that loves to steal loose change.opened in the house that Edgar Allen Poe ate his first steak, this place will have saying "no I'm not John Goodman"

I honestly don't know how I feel about this place. Inside of the bar is very interesting. It feels like you're at your grandma's living room. It's much quieter compared to other bars so it makes for place for good conversations. The bar seems to draw a certain crowd. It's overall a great place for whiskey/scotch, neither of which I really like. But I do like that it's quieter, and different compared to most bars (though can appear a little pretentious at times).

Cozy, friendly, great bar staff (person). She was out of what I wanted (snow storm) but knew exactly what I was looking for and recommended a near-perfect substitute. Quite the hidden gem among countless terrible Bro/Frat invested establishment which seem synonymous with Fells Point.

Best scotch bar ever, even for a non scotch drinker. Great bartender/owner who will guide you through it. If you love love sailing you will love it here also. Remember, "Alcohol, because no great story ever started with someone eating a salad. " Stop in and enjoy life.

This is a unique place. Dozens of single malt whiskies to choose from, selection changes frequently, warm comfortable bar. They've got some beer, wine, and blended whiskeys and whiskies, too. Extremely generous pours-- each one seems to be a double. I'm not even sure how to order a single. The service is fast and straightforward. They serve nothing to eat-- some peanuts, chips-- but these are an afterthought. You're better to eat elsewhere-- come to BoaF for your cocktail hour or after dinner drink(s). We arrived last night when it was already quite full at 9:30, but found a seat at the bar. Bottom line is that this place is not to be missed if you're into either whisky or just a really gorgeous pub.

I came here on a rainy Saturday night and am obsessed with this place now. It sort of feels like you're in someone's basement (in a good way) with a great selection of scotch, heavy pours, and even cheap wine and beer for your friends who are less into whiskey. Our small group of four sat towards the back on the couches and enjoyed the fireplace, a card game or two, and the friendly clientele. We were going to move on to another bar after a drink or two, but ended up staying there until close!

This place is the where you should go for a good scotch or whiskey in Fells Point in Dtwn Baltimore. Very friendly bartender, plus she's from Cali :) Small joint, but they have a large selection of scotches, and they are not stingy when it comes to the amount you get per glass. The ambiance has a very hole-in the wall vibe, and its the place to go to just chill with a good drink and chat with some friends. Highly recommend this place for anyone that is look for a non- pretentiousness place to enjoy a good scotch on a cold Baltimore summer night, haha:)

Six out of 5 stars. Best Scotch bar ever in terms of selection and pouring substantial drinks for reasonable prices. They don't try to put any of that sissy water or ice in your fine Scotch either ;-) The owner is the bar tender, and she is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I wish this bar was where I live!

Have come by 3 times over the last year--once on a girls night out, once on a date night with my bf, and once for my brother in law's bday. Each time was well within the posted hours of 4PM - midnight, Tues through Sat, and each time it was inexplicably closed. Will never again go out of my way to try it.

Awesome hole-in-the-wall yet charming bar in Baltimore. Very chill, and has a great neighborhood vibe. The decorations are eclectic, as is the crowd. People seemed friendly. The scotch selection is fantastic. I asked the bartender/ owner for a recommendation since I'm not normally a scotch drinker.

  • Vicky D.

Cool place but I just don't think it's my kind of bar (apparently, Scotch bars are not my thing). I was interested in trying the place out after hearing that it was voted one of the best bars in the South by Southern Living magazine. I had no idea what to expect, so I was surprised to find out the only beer they have on tap is Natty Boh. They do have a selection of bottles though, and apparently ... a lot of Scotch. The decor was great and very home-y, with a bar up front and something that resembled a living room in the back. I'd come back here if my friends wanted to, but it's not the type of place I would normally hang out. Either that or I guess I need to start drinking Scotch.

Scotch drinkers, if you are anywhere near Fell's Point you MUST go here. It is the Holy grail of Scotch bars! I mentioned to my hotel barkeeper that his Scotch selection was a bit lacking and he told me about this place. After dinner that night we wandered a bit off the beaten main drag path and found this place hold up on a side street. It looked closed. (It is on Mondays.) The wonderful woman who owned it knew her stuff. I told her what my favorites were and asked her to suggest a couple that would suit my taste. She did and they were fabulous!! The menu she shows you gives you some good indication of each single malt too. No, Scotch - good Scotch - is not cheap. But if you are a Scotch drinker and want to enjoy several without plopping down big bucks for a bottle at the liquor store, bars like these are heaven. I will never go back to the Baltimore area without going here. The bar is small and quiet. A sitting area in the back is like a little parlor with a fireplace. They don't serve food. The bathrooms are a bit odd as they are unisex.

Beautiful selection of the nectar of the gods. Extremely great variety and have many non-mainstream whiskeys, so try something new. Extremely knowledgeable owners who can walk you through your first scotch or delve into the complexities for the experienced drinkers. Great place to have a conversation as the atmosphere has an old-lodge feel to it.

  • Ben M.

Great scotch, friendly staff. Good luck beating the selection and nautical vibe. The owner is very nice and pours generously. She really helps you understand the differences between the many scotch offerings. A worthy spot to absorb the area. Also, the place seems to have a lot of regulars who are welcoming and interesting. After visiting for the first time, will definitely be back.

I've been getting more and more into Scotch. I don't remember the last time I had a glass of wine. I may have turned my back on it, and most other spirits, for good. Nothing compares to that full-bodied, mind-blowing, face-punching nectar of the gods, each one so different from the other, always more subtleties to discover and revisit. So, this is my new favorite bar. It was a great opportunity to try some new ones (with half-pours that were probably at least two shots!). The owner knows all about whisky, and the menu is well organized - color coded and even comes with a map for us visual people. It wasn't crowded early evening on Thursday, and the other people drinking were all obviously regulars. Good conversation. Absence of creepiness and leering and fratboys. When we mentioned we were getting Indian food she offered us Indian Scotch. If you don't like whisky, you probably shouldn't be reviewing a whisky bar.

A charming and casual corner of Baltimore. The scotch selection was excellent, the atmosphere was quiet, and it made for a wonderful Saturday evening of scotch-sipping and conversation with classical music in the background.

If you are into scotch or would like to be, you should hit up Birds of a Feather. The woman who owns it is very nice and knowlegeable and can help you select drinks that fit your taste profile. I walked in 3 years ago, not knowing much and still enjoy going back after I have learned much much more. It is quiet in the bar, and in the back they have nice leather chairs and a fireplace where you can lounge and chat. I like that for "happy hour" they have homemade salsa and chips and hummus. The other reviewers are also correct in that the "half" pours are very generous and a very good price for what you are getting. I love this place. I make sure to stop by anytime I am in the area.

This is a great whiskey bar. We came in here because of a local recommendation and certainly were not disappointed. The owner is very knowledgeable and makes fabulous recommendations. Be warned, she also pours HEAVY! If you get a glass, plan to be there sipping for a while. Not a bad problem to have!

Who would have thought there would be a SCOTCH bar in Baltimore? I came with a fellow Single Malt enthusiast and we decided to go with a few different Islay scotches. Definitely more of the peaty/iodine heavy ones. I was a huge fan and the owner seemed pretty knowledgeable. She told us a story about when they visited Scotland too, which was kind of nice to hear. She even gave us a free pour after she said she respected our taste in Scotch. I'd definitely go back. My best tip would be to try something you haven't had. Explore a little. DOn't just go with your usual Macallan or Glenlivet. Branch out!

  • Rachel C.

Amazing scotch selection. Cozy and quaint atmosphere. The owner is ridiculously friendly. I love how I feel like I'm in someone's home and not a bar because of the wood burning fireplace and comfy antique furniture. This place is a gem! Decent prices, too.

  • Aaron E.

I don't know what say. If you need fancy and hip, move on. It you want the best Scotch selection from an owner who knows her stuff, open the door! Possible my best find ever and a great experience. Definitely dive bar status: quite, no food, looks closed from the outside, but come on in and you will be very happy. Found two new to me single malts at the discretion of the owner, enjoyed the hell out of them and some lovely conversation, and the total? Under $20! Be brave, go in and enjoy. :)

  • Eric W.

If you expect the best in scotch, this is an obvious go to. But it's so much more than that. Really good selection in other premium liquors, plus bartenders who are not too scotch-snobby to give a good pour of whatever you want. Very cozy, reasonably friendly, and overall a comfortable place to enjoy a quality drink.

    (4)
  • Michelle A.

Great bar for anyone curious about scotch! The barkeep is very knowledgable and always suggests something different to try. If you're curious about scotch go here and just start picking things to taste by the half pour, you won't be disappointed!

    (5)
  • Kurt B.

A wonderful bar with a casual atmosphere, walls lined with model ships, and a terrific scotch selection at fair prices. You can get a 'half pour' at 60% cost that's as big as some full pours at other bars that charge twice the money. This isn't a place to look for a pick-up, they only have a couple beers on tap, and there's no music. Reminiscent of a clean classy bar one may find in the 1950s, and a genuine destination for scotch drinkers. Highest recommendation.

Sure the cute name, the bold sign, and the overall kookiness of the Fells Point area may cause you to pause in front of this Baltimore anomaly...a scotch bar. But, should you dare to go in? After all, the men spilling out of the place look like blue collar ruffians and the woman tending bar looks like she'd rather spit in your eye than smile at you. However, I urge you for the love of all things malty to go inside. This is a haven for those who enjoy a nice stiff drink. The people inside are actually quite lovely and are willing to share their opinions on what to order. It was a rather chilly day on the evening we arrived. So, one of the regulars, a very chivalrous elderly gentleman who had baked chocolate pecan cookies to share just for the heck of it, suggested we walk to the backroom and warm ourselves by the fire. And, oh, what a treat! Not only was there a roaring wood fire but there were comfy couches, walls adorned with nifty nautical photos, and a cable TV! It was like stumbling into your grandmother's old sitting room, cozy and familiar with all the warmth of home.

Seeing a Scotch bar, the wife and I figured it would be a nice treat to head in and relax. The bar had a sailing theme going on and the people at the bar seemed to all know each other and the owner and we got the feeling that we were crashing a party we weren't invited to. As we sat at the end of the bar by the door, a few more people came in and joined the people next to us, and proceeded to stand and consistently bump into my chair and me, while the bartender/owner told them some severely depressing stories including the death of her husband. Keep walking and find another place if you are looking for something upbeat. The selection of Scotch was fantastic to be fair, but I don't think we would head back here.

Amazing scotch bar in Fells Point. The woman who owns it is super nice, the selection is bountiful and the music is quiet. A small island of sanity in a neighborhood that I generally avoid.

This place has a great selection of reasonably priced distilled malt (and other) beverages. Very nice old dog, friendly proprietor, and a very laid back vibe. This is not a place to get the party started, but is perfect for a quiet evening of conversation. Think old guy bar, not meat market. The owner knows her stuff, and was totally awesome at picking out stuff that I would like. I will come back any time I'm in town.

As a scot living abroad, this whisky bar was a breath of fresh air. Friendly owner and clientel, and the best selection of whisky in Baltimore. Go on a Wednesday night for Sushi with your whisky.

I'm not much of a bar person. That being said, I am most definitely a scotch person, and this warm fuzzy, atypical little joint is without a doubt my favorite bar in Baltimore. The selection alone is enough to put a great big smile on my face. Beyond that, I could listen to Alicia (the friendly, delightfully-eccentric, well-travelled owner) tell stories for hours on end; and there's just something about being in a public place that feels like home within minutes. I've passed more than a few wonderful, memorable evenings on the squishy dilapidated couches by the fireplace in the back room. Birds of a Feather is a one-of-a-kind gem with the kind of honesty and character that are darn hard to come by these days - especially right in the heart of Baltimore's drunken debauchery quarter. For me...it just fits.

  • Alan J.

This is my favorite bar in Baltimore. Ok, it's the only bar I know in Baltimore. But this is one of my favorite bars in the world. Not a lot of variety here...just two beers on tap if memory serves, and only a handful of bottles that aren't scotch. But oh...the scotch. Somewhere north of 100 bottles. Generous pouring (the "half" shot could pose as a double in some other establishments). Ludicrously inexpensive (even before taking size into account). Relaxed vibe. No smoking. (Hey, I'm from California). Not too loud. Super knowledgeable owner... An evening here with a few friends is an excellent informal in-depth course in scotch. You'll leave well educated, satisfied, lubricated, and with your wallet relatively intact.

I stopped in for a drink last weekend and this bar made me wish I lived around the corner. As a previous reviewer mentioned, this scotch selection is incredible and the prices more incredible. And the pours are much more than fair. This is a great neighborhood bar. My wife and I felt comfortable there, and thought it was really great that so many of the people seemed to know each other and enjoy spending time in the place. I will recommend this bar to anyone who tells me they are going to Baltimore.

Fun, kitchy whisky bar with a fun vibe. GREAT selection of Scotch. Not sure if they have food since we were there for the whisky. Friendly neighborhood place. It was kind of hard to believe it was in Fell's Point.
