Starting on June 13th, this Au Bon Pain will be open 24 hours a day. They offer plenty of breakfast choices (bagels, pastries, fruit, yogurt, etc.), several different brews of coffee, and so forth. (And they offer light cream and whole milk). The soups and sandwiches vary from great, to good, to inedible (the tuna is a little scary), but at 3am, it's better than a vending machine. The bagels aren't bad, but the cream cheese selection is great. It's coffee/breakfast/lunch shop in a hospital, how picky can you be?

One of the best options in the hospital although it can get pricey if you're not careful. I really like selection of soups when it's chilly and of course the make your own salad which comes with bread on the side. A plus for the hospital is that it is open 24/7 so tired family and doctors can grab coffee or food even in the middle of the night. The people that work there are very friendly and move quickly. Recently they started putting out soy milk at the coffee station which I love! Because I think hoarding your non dairy milk behind the counter is not very nice... *cough starbucks cough* Favorites: breakfast sandwiches, the southwest chicken salad and if you need comfort food the Mac and cheese!

As noted in the other reviews, this is located in the base of the University of Maryland Medical Center on Greene street. You will need access to the hospital to enter this store. It is clean, bright and friendly. The prepared foods look great. I had the chopped Asian chicken salad which was delicious and a Wasabi Chicken Wrap. The menus show the calories which I appreciate. The staff is friendly and efficient. It looks like the line is going to take forever but it moves right along. The eating area is pretty cool if you like to "people watch" - but watching people in a hospital lobby is not my idea of a lot of fun. I've gone here many times over the past week of my mom being in the hospital. I really like it and am grateful for it being on the property.

A very good and convenient place for all the morning delicacies and afternoon snacks, sandwiches, salads and soups. However, being a Muslim and folloing Muslim dietry laws which forbids eating pork or any other non-halal meat, I got really disappointed one day when even after requesting for a clean/washed knife for cutting my sandwich, they did not fulfill my request. And even worst, did not even appologize for inconsiderate treatment, or for my wait time. Since then, no more Au bon Pain.

Conveniently located in the University of Maryland Medical Center and open 24/7, Au Bon Pain is my one-stop shop for last-minute study snacks when I'm cramming for an exam. My go-to item is the make-your-own salad, because it comes with heaping amounts of healthy vegetables which are much-needed in the fresh food desert of West Baltimore, as well as a complimentary baguette. I get my salad dressing to go, which usually means that I have enough left over for a subsequent meal at home. All for $7! Another great deal they have is that any drip coffee costs 99 cents with the purchase of a breakfast sandwich. In case it wasn't clear by now, I'm a cheapo grad student. The service here is excellent -- the staff is all incredibly friendly, and the manager can be found roving the floor and assisting customers. One time, I was idling around the hot sandwiches in a prolonged bout of indecision (should I get the steak and cheddar wrap or the BBQ chicken and black bean wrap -- big life decisions, ugh!) and the manager came over. He suggested that I go with the steak and cheddar wrap, and if I didn't like it, he'd exchange it for the other wrap. How generous! One gripe I have is that they only honor Au Bon Pain coupons if they're printed. So make sure to bring your coupons the old-school way, instead of presenting your smartphone.

What?! It's located inside the hospital so you have to go through security first! Lots of hospital staff and visitors are seen patronizing the place. Putting that to the side: salads & sandwiches made fresh to order, a soup station, a yummy wall of cookies, pastries, breads, muffins. A fridge of healthier juices, pre-made salads, a drink stop-- lots of great options in a small space! Staff were friendly and personable! Plenty of seating inside and outdoors. I had soup and cookies!! Delicious.. If I saw the soup and sandwich deal, I would of cashed in on the offer. maybe next time! Definitely coming back for the wall of -yummy- cookies!

My drinks got messed up here multiple times (asked for soy, but got regular milk), I've seen flies and bugs in the bakery shelves, and it's always sticky/dirty here.

I've recently discovered Au Bon Pain and it's quickly become one of my go to places for lunch! Au Bon Pain is in University of Maryland Medical Center and it's pretty easy to find. You can find pretty much anything you want to eat here. There's a counter where you can order a salad or sandwich. I've only had the salads, my favorite being the turkey apple brie salad. I'm kind of obsessed. Brie is amazing and you will not get cheated on the brie if you order this salad. I guess cheese isn't the main ingredient you should focus on when ordering a salad, but it's so good! In addition to the specialty salads, you can make your own salad. The selection of soups is pretty impressive. I'm looking forward to trying the soups when it gets cold. Good luck getting past the pastries while paying! The croissants and danishes make me want to give up on the salad and just eat chocolate croissants for lunch. Service is friendly and fast, even when it's busy. Yay, Au Bon Pain! Very good lunch spot near UMB.

I would like to give this place more stars, particularly since their food is actually wonderful, but the staff and the atmosphere make it hard to go more than 2 stars. So, let's start with the good. You will not get a bad meal here. Their made-to-order salads are exquisite, their plethora of soups (rotated on a daily basis) offer both meat and vegetarian options (particularly good choice during lent), and their sandwiches are amazing. I have had just about everything on the menu and there's nothing I would not order again. This month I am particularly hung up on the turkey chili around lunch and the smoked salmon wasabi bagel for breakfast. But that's really where the good ends. It's always crowded around normal dining hours (i.e. lunch rush, dinner rush), and even the few times I've been at off hours the staff seems content to meander about so that it can still take 15-20 minutes to make it out of a sandwich shop. Since it's located in a hospital you also have to put up with doctors who are too lazy to remove their PPE before they go to a place with food. Yuck! They also have a tendancy to run out of a lot of stuff (so much so that I am wondering whether their management staff is trying to save money by skimping on the orders). And for a sandwich shop, let's face it, it's a little on the pricy side ($10/person on average day). Still, all that aside I will probably continue to go...but only because I work on the campus so it's convenient. If I did not work here I would not go out of my way to eat here.

Au Bon Pain is located in the lobby of the University of Maryland Hospital, and took over the space from Donna's, a great local coffee and sandwich shop. Au Bon Pain has a more self-service approach, rather than the table-service of the prior owners. I miss Donna's, but Au Bon Pain does a good job of providing a quick grab-and-go with decent food offerings. I have been repeated disappointed by the made-to-order counter. They are slow, often get the order wrong (even on sandwiches requested WITHOUT any special order - just make it like the menu describes). And several times, I've been disappointed to get back to my office with my sandwich not cut all the way through, and then it's difficult to eat). Flavors are good, so that's not the issue - it's the execution.

I want to give this four stars for being a healthy option in the hospital but there are some glaring problems. More times than not when I go (3-5/week), they are out of more than one of the soups or coffees and it's hard to find staff that can help you. If you get the manager, he's great, but everyone else seems more concerned with standing around bored and uninterested. Not everyone, but 75% of the employees that I've interacted with. This place also goes by my rule of not paying a mark-up of 200-300% on things like soda or perrier. Really, Au Bon Pain, is YOUR perrier $1.29 better than normal Perrier. I'm only joking around really, but the cost of those outside products is nuts, especially when you can just walk over to the hospital gift shop. All in all, they nearly get the monopoly for carrying decent salads and soups, but it's definitely not yet a completely fluid business or experience. It's also tiny and pretty hard to navigate during lunch because the people in that hospital aren't really thinking about moving quickly (for understandable reasons). The coffee is good though and that is enough for three stars.

They say you can't judge a book by the cover. Well I think you can't judge a cafe by its first month in business. Now, this place is poorly managed. You can't run out of ingredients at 2pm everyday. Yesterday, it was the hummus they ran out of. Today, it's the wheat bread! This is a common occurrence according to many of my friends here. There are also rotten apples for sale in the "Fresh Fruit" basket. The employees are poor at best. They don't know how to keep orders in line. Expect them to forget your order if you plan on getting a sandwich there. I also wouldn't trust their salad. I saw some mold on the lettuce in my sandwich a week ago. The reason I would still give this place TWO stars and not ONE is because they serve a good cup of coffee on a normal day.

I'm tempted to give one star but I realize that would be a knee-jerk reaction stemming from a combination of frustration and hunger due to my bad breakfast experience this morning. So three stars is me trying to be fair. I eat here pretty regularly and there is both good and bad to be had. This morning was a real downer. I bought a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel from the pre-packaged section. Let me describe. The eggs had a brown burnt crust that I was able to peel off in one complete layer (taking all the cheese with it). That left the bacon, which was two thin slices of undercooked rubbery fat that also had to go immediately into the garbage. I tried to eat the remaining egg parts with the bagel but it was not meant to be. The bagel was so stale it was difficult to bite into. I considered taking the sandwich back and showing it to a manager. Instead I threw it all out and vowed to stop eating their prepared breakfasts or anything they make with eggs (the brown crust on the eggs is a pervasive problem). In the spirit of fairness and after eating some peanut butter cups to subdue my hunger rage I can grudgingly report that their spinach and cheese croissants are delicious and one of the more moderate pastry offerings at 330 calories. Most of their pastries are unsubtle sugar bombs that will make your teeth hurt. The mozzarella and tomato sandwich is good if you get it freshly made, though inconsistent in terms of ingredient ratios (pesto-soaked bread or bone dry... I wonder which it will be today). I avoid their chicken because it has a processed, institutional quality that I would expect from McDonalds. They have a good selection of soups on most days. The tomato soup and onion soup are my favorites but very salty. The baguette pieces and bread sticks frequently taste day-old. So this place is totally hit or miss but a lot of the bad stuff is predictable and can be avoided. I knew I was going to regret that breakfast sandwich as I was buying it.

This place has a relaxing vibe during the day with catchy music. unfortunately at night they have limited selection of items and staffing.

Not bad. This particular Au Bon Pain is located in the University of Maryland Medical Center and open 24-7. The food here isn't that bad and the price isn't too bad either. If you come here during the busier hours (especially lunch), you can expect there to be a pretty considerable line of doctors, patients, students, etc... However, in off-hours, it's not too bad. Service here isn't great and sometimes slow but I've never had a horrible experience. Some items that I had here: Toasted Southwestern Black Bean Burger on Country White - Wow... talk about a mouthful of a name. It's a vegetarian sandwich and I enjoyed it (even though I'm not vegetarian). But I'm not too sure why they called it a burger... it wasn't served in a hamburger bun but rather, sliced bread. Why not call it a sandwich instead? Marketing.... SMH. Butternut Squash and Apple Soup - I liked it...it had a good combination of salty, tangy, and sweet flavors. If you're looking for a chunky, hearty soup though, this is not it. It's pretty much a puree (aka the stuff you would eat when you get your wisdom teeth taken out haha). Coffee here is not bad. The chai whoppie pie - it had potential but falls a little flat. The cookie/cake part had a very nice chai flavor but was very hard when I ate it, which was a little disappointing. Also, the frosting was really really sweet.
