We used Carolines Cakes for our wedding. I'd give it 4 stars except there was one horrible error as they ruined the top tier of our cake and it was unusable for our wedding. Six months prior to the wedding we had to drop off cake mixes, experiment a bit, and even find a recipe that we liked (and was safe for us as I'm lactose intolerant and my wife has a nut allergy) for our wedding. For Christmas we had them make our wedding cake. They made the cake but forgot to put the middle strawberry filling in the center. However, when I mentioned this to them, they instantly said we'll redo the cake free of charge, which they did well. Sure they got it right the second time but when it comes to weddings there is no second time. Our wedding day arrived & everything was delivered on time. They opened the box to find that they had accidentally smashed and ruined the top tier of the cake. To make it right though (in their minds), they went out to GIANT FOOD to find a replacement. At least they did not bother us with this transition and just got it done (for this we're grateful!). They did buy an entirely new cake for our wedding, so we ended up getting 2 cakes. Regardless, our experience at our wedding desert wise was severely compromised. My wife was not happy and when she saw our plain looking cake in front of us during cake cutting she was sorely disappointed. It did put a damper on the day, but did not ruin our event. Had we been fully reimbursed for the entire cake after the event, we may not have had the 3 star review you are reading. Although Caroline herself was sweet and genuinely felt terrible with what transpired, she should have gone the extra mile to refund us the full cost of the cake. No matter how apologetic you are as an owner, in the end we still had no pictures with the cake we paid for. Perhaps this review is food for thought and perhaps we should have considered a different store to have bought.

Just recently bought a chocolate layer cake from here. I was excited to try it based on website and being local in Annapolis. It was not bad but to be honest not worth the price of $48 a cake. So many other bakers out there than getting a cake frozen and having to unthaw it. I have tried it and can say that I have will not try it again.

My mom ordered my wedding cake from Caroline's, and although (and very unfortunately) I did not eat but a bite it was still pretty good. Last Saturday morning I stopped in to Caroline's to pick up some cupcakes. My girlfriend had just had a baby and I wanted to take her something sweet and yummy. I did not call in advance, thinking that they may have "grab and go" cupcakes but their selection of pre-made was pretty slim. The girl up front was very nice, offered to make a special order for me that would be ready in an hour, which they were. She even decorated them with pink baby booties! Cute, very easy, very yummy cupcakes. My only qualm with this place, was that when the girl up front when back to ask if she could put my order in, whoever was in charge in the back gave her a bit of grief about it (The door was open and I heard most of the convo.....awkward.....) Either way, I got my cupcakes and they were delish.

Tried the 7 layer caramel cake this past weekend at the Maryland Seafood Festival and wow! So delicious! The cake by itself was amazing, the caramel by itself was perfect. Them together put me straight into a cake coma. I can't wait to try all the other flavors they have to offer!

Got my daughters birthday cake years ago and still have people asking me where her cake came from! It was so delicious and decorated beautifully for her ladybug garden party

I orders a cake for Father's Day. I was scheduled to pick it up at 3:00 pm. One of their employees called earlier that day to ask if I could pick it up later. I told her that I could not as I had other plans. I arrived at 3;30 only to discover that the cake I ordered was not ready. This was inconvenient as it made me late for my other plans.

Absolutely love their caramel cake. Melts in your mouth, and tastes like the ones I used to get in the south! I try to stop by and get a piece every time I go to the beach. Would recommend it for anyone with a sweet tooth.

I was watching the local NYC news a few weeks ago and they were running a half price special on the 7 layer caramel cake so I placed an order. The cake came yesterday and we had it for dessert last night. It's a pretty cake--but the cake we got was very grainy and it tasted like the frosting perhaps was not cooked Correctly. It tasted like frosting that had sugar added at the last minute--almost like an after thought. Sad to say no one could even eat the cake. They said it was very sandy. Perhaps we got a bad cake--it happens I am sure. I'd like to know if that's the way the cake is suppose to be or in deed we got a bummer cake. Sad to say I was not pleased and I was looking so forward to this cake.

My parents have mail ordered their cakes twice now and I'm not sure I share their enthusiasm with the product. In Caroline's defense they love it. On the other hand I find their cakes just too rich. The 7 layers of thick frosting make it feel like you are eating slices of fudge. It was just too sweet for me, some people might like this style of cake but it is not for me.

It's late afternoon in the office and my coworker stood up suddenly in a very serious manner, paused for a few seconds, and announced, "Gentlemen, there's cake." At first I thought he was going to say that there was a meeting which I didn't know about, because he looked so serious when he stood up. But cake, he assured me, was serious business. It seemed that two cakes from Caroline's Cake had appeared in the office, a 7 Layer Lemon Cake and a Lemon Raspberry Delight, and people in the office were crowding around them in order to partake and devour. Mindful of the fact that I was planning on doing some running later in the evening, I cut out only a small piece of the 7 Layer Lemon Cake. This cake was sweet and delicious, rich and with just the right amount of lemon flavour so that it was not overwhelming. Very delicious!

I have a friend who thinks their Caramel 7 Layer Cake is the bomb.. I have tasted it on three occasions and it is so sweet it is just like pouring caramel over a big spoon of grainy sugar. I was going to purchase one for the holiday for my friend who likes them, but I see the price after shipping is like $80.00+. The way the economy is now, it is ridiculously priced. It is certainly not worth that price tag, but then again I guess the rich can afford it, but I don't see the fascination in these cakes. No thanks..

I've loved Caroline's 7 layer caramel cakes for many, many years. And as much as I love Smith Island cakes, these are even better. The coconut is wonderful too, but I haven't tried the other flavors--it's too hard to get past the fabulous caramel. I can't vouch for the deli items at this location (I always bought the cake either from their home, or in slices from Adam's Ribs, which doesn't carry them any more) but if you are a caramel cake fan--this is the best!

The worst customer service I have experienced in this area... They must have plenty of customers because their attitude is they do not need another one.

So I had heard about Caroline's for quite awhile, both for the Smith Island cake and her "lobster rolls" which are offered only Th-Su. We were headed East over the Bay Bridge so we figured we would try both. Having lived in Boston and having chowed down on many a lobster roll from MA, NH, ME, and RI, I have a pretty good handle on what should be an acceptable offering. For those unfamiliar with this particular delicacy, a true New England lobster roll is nothing but meat from the crustacean, usually claw and tail, lightly seasoned, maybe a squirt of lemon juice and tossed with either melted butter or mayo. Once combined, this heavenly concoction is placed on a buttered and grilled or griddled top cut hot dog bun. Simplicity at its best. The greatest places actually put the meat from an entire 1 1/4 lb lobster on the sandwich. The bun should be overshadowed and busting at the seams with the white and pink nuggets. Well we got our roll and one slice of caramel Smith Island Cake. to go I think the bill was almost $18. OUCH. I know the lobster sammies can be pricey since again, some may contain the meat of an entire lobster sans shell and they are worth the dent in your wallet. Well I took out the clear plastic container, and all I saw was whole claws some requiring 2 or three bites tossed onto the hot dog bun.. Mayo, not sure where it was. Butter? Nonexistent. Celery, OMG no!. The lobster meat needs to be cut in smaller chunks and should be coated with either the mayo or butter. Using just claws and leaving them whole invites unwanted liquid which just makes everything messy and not very tasty. I get the desire to put Old Bay on it as well, but they should restrain from that. It deserves to be on a crab, not a lobster. I declined to eat anymore so my husband finished the rest giving it a 5 out of 10. I didn't sample the slice of cake until I returned home. Granted, it had flavor, but it came in the form of carmelized sugar and frankly it overwhelmed the cake itself. I guess we will skip making a stop at Caroline's next time we are Eastern Shore bound. Update: I was very pleased and surprised to receive an e-mail from the Caroline's Cakes after my review was posted. They mentioned that they are always willing to make adjustments/improvements and that they value input from customers. This merits a second visit.

The cakes are delicious and unique. The variety offers a range not only in flavors but in level of sweetness (the caramel being very rich-my favorite) Most of the cakes are 7 layers which means they should be sliced thin (a little goes a long way; great with ice cream). Family friends have ordered them for their Mom's birthday for decades now. Just ordered one for my daughter's 21st; I wasn't clear on the date; they graciously delivered it TWICE for no extra charge. 5 Stars for customer service!

We used them for a wedding in Stevensville 8/3/12 and they were great. They were very professional and made the whole process very easy. It was one less thing to have to worry about because we knew they were going to perform as expected. Prices were on par with the market and the service was great.

Folks at the dinner party mentioned it was the best cake they have ever tasted. And there were some foodies at the table. Pricey but well worth the treat. The 9 inch cake serves about 10-12. Nice light texture. Not overly sweet. All the cakes come frozen and require 3-4 hrs to defrost.

Love, love, love the caramel cake! I first discovered this tasty delight at a Junior League event 10 years ago and haves since been a loyal follower. The caramel cake taste just like my grandmother's recipe from the south. Really!!! It melts in your mouth and is packed full of flavor. It's sooooo rich, you only need a small slice to satisfy your sweet tooth. Lastly, if you are unable to make a pilgrimage to Annapolis, Caroline's will ship any cake of your choosing. Now that you know, there is know reason to deprive your self from a tasty caramel treasure.
