I wanted to love this place. The design is super awesome but we were seated in the back room without heat and it was just a bit chilly. The margaritas (which were yummy) definitely helped that! We had a groupon so maybe we experienced less than stellar service as a result but it took forever FOR.EVERYTHING. We got our margs and didn't have any glasses for another ten minutes! My food was okay but not warm-- the apps were just mediocre. The entire meal was just okay. I wouldn't rush back for food but I would go back for drinks!

Came here to visit cousins in town since I was staying across at the Hilton and enjoyed the atmosphere for a Saturday night. Drinks were strong which was a plus. Had guacamole and salsa for appetizers and was a hit. Enjoyed the place so much I convinced the rest of my family to go back for lunch another day on our trip . Unfortunately that trip was a little more disappointing as the food wasn't that great. Makes sense that I enjoyed my first visit since all I had was salsa and guacamole. Either Way - it's. Great place for apps and drinks, not too sure about plated food.

The food at mezcal is not the reason to go to mezcal, it's not bad but it isn't the best Mexican food you can get here. The reason to go to mezcal for most people in my life is the drinking, I go to MCPHS University and mezcal is very conveniently located for post-exam celebrations. I will say their guacamole is fairly decent which is a good thing when your goal is to have margaritas you want something to snack on. My only issue, and this may be due to my expectations from living in Halifax where you can get properly buzzed at an establishment, is their pitcher policy. Essentially it boils down to you can only order pitchers to share (which is fine) and only as many pitchers total as there are people at the table. My initial confusion is if they're going to let you order say 6 pitchers and you're sharing why not allow you to have them all at once? But the real problem I have with it is there is no time factor involved in the policy if you order your six pitchers over the first two hours but are there for four hours you cannot order more. Also if you have people arrive but other people leave so your total party stays at six people, you can still only have six pitcher for the table. Both of those points become issues when celebrating after exams or on cinco de mayo.

At the old small location this place was a 5 star experience at the new location, well lets just say I stopped recommending Mezcal. At the old location going to Mezcal was a nice dining experience, nice ambiance, service was great, the quality of food was fantastic, the margaritas (most important) to die for. At the new location the ambiance is Unos, open ceilings with ductwork exposed, service is slow and the servers are inattentive, the food all tastes bland and the margaritas are watered down. Everything youd expect from a chain restaurant, too bad this place isnt a chain. I ordered some to go food on 7/29: the (pork)nacho to go box, the (shredded chicken) taco to go box(ten soft shells and fixings), large (classic) guac to go and a taco salad. There was a two dollar charge on the tacos for jalapenos, im thinking awesome, if their charging me they must by fresh..... nope, two bucks gets you one of those small 2oz-ish sauce containers, for a total of 10 normal sized (canned) jalapeno rings and two small end pieces(I added a picture to the pictures here on yelp). The shredded chicken for the tacos was pretty tasty, the 3 knuckle bones and the large amounts of ligaments werent. Its almost as if their getting shredded chicken pre shredded from sysco, I make shredded chicken all the time, its not hard to keep the bones and ligaments out. The 13 dollar guac got us this bland overly creamy guac, almost like the kind you get at the grocery store next to all the hummus. I can see how it can serve 5-6 as its not very appetizing, I ate it out of spite because i paid 13 bucks for it. The nachos werent too bad, the pork was a little sweet for my tastes but thats more personal preference. The Taco salad lettuce was that finely shredded iceberg lettuce thats great for tacos (was included in the taco to go box) and underneath burgers to catch all those delicious drippings before they hit the bottom bun. It does not belong in a salad. Overall everything is now an overpriced letdown, the nachos were passable but I can get more volume and tastier nachos at Acapulcos. Plus Acapulcos has better ambiance, I actually feel like im at a mexican restaurant and not Unos. As for margaritas maybe if you want one of those fruity numbers maybe Mezcal is better. But if you want a real marg: tequila, lime juice, cointreau (or triple sec), ice, kosher salt; thats not watered down to all hell the Acapulco's Presidente beats Mezcals "skinny"(not skinny girl) marg anyday. Except at the old Mezcal, the skinny marg I had there was hands down the best margarita of my life, I feel like im chasing the dragon now.

It's very hard for a restaurant to earn a 1 star review from me. Plus: The food was acceptable. The presentation of the food was Excellent. Minus: Service was dog slow. We saw the waiter about once every 20 minutes. The venue was LOUD (and acoustics). My db meter set it around 76 db+. I had to yell to speak to my wife sitting right beside me. The kitchen was slow. An order of nachos took 25 minutes. The drinks (bar) were slow. A glass of iced tea took 15 minutes. Tips: Bring earplugs Make reservations I would only come here if there was no where else available.

Mezcal is bland bland bland! However, there is one exception. The pulled chicken nachos are flavorful with a bit of warmth. The drinks are great, though! Service is efficient, when you are in large groups. I would probably only do this for happy hour, when I'm in the area for work.

After an exhasting day at a convention in the DCU Center I had a fierce hunger, and in my weakened state i made the pivotal mistake of wandering into Mezcal Tequila Cantina. My friend and I took a seat at the bar and ordered some beers and asked for the menu. The bartender handed us the menu and then started in trying to sell us the "specialty guacs". I dont dislike guac, but id never order it for myself, so I tell the guy "nah, i dont like guac". His response is to assure me thats just because I havent tried THEIR guac. I tell him "Im not ordering your guac man" and hold my menu up between him and my face (a clear indication to piss off and let me drink in peace). At this point he locks on and begins questioning my dislike of guac "Is it a texture thing? Is it a taste thing?", I put the menu down and tell him "no i just think it sucks", and true to form, this clown cant take a hint and AGAIN assures me this is just because i havent tried THEIR guac. Then before i can even tell him to sod off, he launces into the full ingredient list of the guac of the day (a terrifying buffalo chicken concoction that im sure would give the bravest vermin diarrhea). By now im so heated with this joker i basically throw the menu at him, loudly announce "I will have nothing thank you" and leave hungry because i dont want to give him any of my money. My friend got a steak and egg burrito that im 90% sure was covered in ketchup, he agreed. Final summary: Garbage can.

I think this place is a tad over hyped. The food is by no means bad ..just a little bland. Their fish tacos are really good but the side of rice that comes with it is bland. I was really excited I love yellow rice but it just didn't have any flavor. They have awesome drinks Sangria. Love it really. I'm a huge fan and they had a ton of options for margaritas, like raspberry coconut, and you can get a pitcher delicious! It's so unbelievably packed during weekends make a reservation in advanced! They also have free valet which is soo appreciated. I've heard great things about the ceviche but didn't have the chance to try it

I really loved my margarita & tacos. actually, it was the BEST margarita I've ever had. no lie. None of that mixer stuff. So good. Service speed was a little slower than average but I was with a HUGE group so it made sense. atmosphere is a little loud so not ideal for a quiet night out. Would definitely go back! Little tip: FREE vallet. Don't pay for the parking garage like we did. ha! (but even if you do it wont be that $$)

just went for a drink and chips and guacamole. The guac was pretty bland with a giant piece of avocado that i had to cut up. Salsa was pretty good but watery. The chips were out of a bag. margarita was pretty tasty.

Once this was a great restaurant. now its just an overpriced Taco Bell and even now I think Taco Bell is better,. they at least put shredded lettuce tomatoes and cheese on your tacos. I ordered three tacos for $13.00. They came without any of the above mentioned finishing touches and were dry, the beef was awful, like Manwhich out of the can. I had a glass of white wine for $10.00 which was the smallest glass of wine I have ever been served, I don't even think it was 4 ounces. Never going back. At least Taco Bell has drive thru.

This establishment is really greedy and sloppy with inferior service, and actually charged us food tax on our meal even though we had a Groupon that was supposed to take care of the whole evening and we ordered exactly what the Groupon had spelled out. The restaurant just went and took it right out of the cash bill we asked them to simply break for us to tip our server, and didn't even bother to inform us (probably our server's fault; more on her incompetence below) that we had to pay a tax balance. After arguing in circles with the manager about how tax was not even written into the "exclusions" section of their Groupon and not getting anywhere with her, I just felt like bashing my head in at that point. Not a good way to end what was supposed to be a fun, relaxing night out at a new-to-us restaurant. Also, the server we had did not seem very knowledgeable, and when we asked about some of the cheeses on the menu (since they're all uncommon sounding Mexican cheeses), she kept running back to the kitchen each time to ask about each. individual. one. She also didn't even seem to know what the word "pasteurized" means when we asked about one of them! Um, not sure if she should be working in the food industry if she doesn't know what that term means. Later when we ordered dessert, we ordered their "Churro Bread Pudding"... and then she brought out a standard bread pudding made of Brioche or something; DEFINITELY not Churros. When we asked her about this, she seemed confused and said, "you ordered the bread pudding", and we said, "No, we ordered the *Churro* bread pudding". So again she disappeared to go look for herself on the menu (again, didn't seem to know much about what she should already know as the server), then confirmed that it said Churro Bread Pudding and said that it's actually just "churro flavored" (???!?) like with cinnamon. HOW MISLEADING to call it a CHURRO bread pudding when it is NOT... it is just a plain old bread pudding. GEEZ... how annoying (not to mention just plain wrong) when a place falsely advertises something. This place lies to you even through their menu! And then of course a bunch of times our water glasses stood empty for a while, so our water was not getting refilled all that often. Ugh, kind of a disaster... won't be returning to this hot mess, and doubtful I'll be trying any of the other "Niche" Group restaurants since the manager says they are all run pretty much in the same way - yikesss.

soo apparently the only time you receive service and food in a prompt manner is if you come when the restaurant is dead, and there are no other guests. four of us came here on a saturday night, with a reservation for 5:45. we had an event at the DCU center across the way, which started at 7:30. i had a groupon for 2 apps, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. our appetizer of "queso" was melted cheese that quickly fused back together as it cooled. difficult and embarrassing to eat. the fried calamari was just eh, and didn't come with any sort of dipping sauce. we waited a long while for our entrees, even having to refuse a server not once but twice when the wrong food was delivered to our table. when our entrees did finally arrive, we only got two of them. then we waited. and waited. and waited. our server stopped by and didn't even acknowledge that a) we were waiting a long time in general and b) that we had been waiting at least 5 minutes for our other two entrees to show up. when they did arrive, we were all underwhelmed with what we ordered. none of the flavors popped, and everything was just so-so. needless to say that when we left the restaurant at 7:40 (already late for our event...), we'd only received apps and entrees. our server offered to wrap our dessert to go but, considering how late we were, and that none of us were going to be home for a good 4 - 5 hours, we declined. no adjustment was made to our bill, and no manager ever came to our table to check in or apologize. i will be steering clear of this place from now on. this dinner was just the right thing to turn me off on coming here ever again in the future.

Good guac and margaritas. Go there for a girl's night out and leave for a cute boy's (or girl's) night in.

We came here twice in one weekend! We came for lunch on a Saturday and had really great service. We had nachos with chicken as an appetizer and even the single order was huge. They were delicious! I also loved the veggie taco and grilled shrimp taco, and my husband really liked his burrito. The margaritas are awesome. We came back to the bar at night and had some more drinks.

Stopped in for dinner one night with friends. There's valet right out front which makes parking easy. In the winter, the restaurant is a bit cold because there's so many windows and many of the seats are near windows. We started with some queso, which was really nice and served with tortillas and tortilla chips. It comes with lots of jalapenos, so beware if you don't want a lot of spice. Taco salad with turkey was OK. The dressing was good, and there's plenty of iceberg lettuce to fill you up. The chicken fajitas are really good. The chicken is flavored really nicely and the accompanying guacamole is simple but fresh and tasty. I didn't have a margarita but they have a huge tequila selection which was very cool. Service was slow. Our queso took a long time to come out, but apparently the first batch was burned and remade for us, and then it was taken off our bill, which was great. Overall, not bad.

My co workers n I have been here a few times. Place is hit or miss. We have received excellent service and horrible service. We have noticed that the bar area seems to be ignored by their servers... The food is average and over priced.

I was in from out of town for the weekend for an event being held at the DCU Center, and I was really looking forward to trying Mezcal out - I'd spotted them the last time I was in town, and as a big fan of Mexican food, I wanted to check their unique location out. Circumstances arose, however, that will likely keep me from patronizing this business at all. I was staying with my family at the Hilton hotel directly across the street from this location in a street facing suite. I was astounded, at 10:00pm our first night there, to hear in perfect clarity a band begin firing up their set at peak volume in an open air restaurant. The sound was clear enough for my wife and I to be able to recognize each song being played, as well as the lapses in vocal talent from the band's front man. I called down to the restaurant to inquire as to how late they planned on having this band play. Their initial response was a shocking 1am - quite the hour to be sending out these sorts of decibels within proximity of a hotel. The girl who answered the phone went on to rudely chide me for my concern, sternly responding to my concern that my six month old son not be drawn awake by the noise from their establishment by very matter-of-factly stating that Worcester has an apparent 12am sound ordinance. Whether an issue with their noise levels had arisen or not, if this was demonstrative of how their staff responds to concerns from their clientele, then I shudder to think how someone with a poor dining experience may be treated. If her assertion regarding Worcester's sound laws was, in fact, the case (to be fair, as an out-of-towner, I wouldn't know), then this establishment didn't seem to show much regard for said ordinances, as the band died down around ten minutes to twelve, only to fire up again for another 40 minutes just after midnight. Sad to say, even as an out of towner, I won't be making it a point to visit an establishment that would so openly disregard the business benefits of a hotel I imagine feeds them plenty of business (as opposed to the other way around), as well as treat potential clientele in said hotel in such as crude and short manner.

Mmmm... overpriced avocado and toppings, delish! I meet my best friend here every year around Christmas time. This was our first visit to the new location. We made reservations, not knowing what the new space would be like. It's open and well lit, and plenty of seating available, unlike the old location. The guacamole flight is a must. I have to say, the Thai Guacamole is my favorite! Lime, sugared pineapple, sriracha sauce, avocados, a few other things. It's sweet and spicy and goes very well with salty chips. I ordered the chicken enchiladas "extra spicy". Our waitress wasn't willing to accommodate my request in the kitchen, but she offered to bring me hot sauce, which she forgot. When another waitress checked in on us, she apologized for the first waitresses' error and brought me a really delicious homemade ghost pepper hot sauce. Be afraid, be very afraid! It was very spicy, and exactly what I wanted! I like the red sauce here, but the verde sauce is bland, and I would opt for just the red sauce next time. The margarita's here are very tasty, but many are too sweet and contain too much ice for the price. Also, there is a "complimentary valet service" that will park your car since there is no visible public parking near the restaurant (that we could find in the dark). I am one of those people who feels incredibly awkward not tipping, so although it was supposed to be complimentary, I felt social pressure to tip, making an already pricy meal even pricier. Overall, this place has buck but lacks bang.

We went there a few weeks ago after a court thing. My friends love the taco bar...it looked good, and fast. I got a grilled chicken salad that was amazing. My man got quesadilla that was also great. Margaritas were kickin! Young guy server was sweet. Totally got with my plan of picking up the check for my buddies. I would go back.

We wen't back last night, and I had no complaints at all. We got a pitcher of the house margaritas, which were extremely delicious and such a great value. I think we managed 7.5 glasses from that pitcher. One guest got fajitas, one got a beef burrito, and I had the dos enchiladas (one chicken, one pork). My food was so tasty. For 20$ a person that included over two drinks, I would come back again and again for the value and the good time. I must note, it was a Sunday night - so not very busy and we sat at the bar (I heard sitting at the bar is a better time).

I've been here with friends for drinks and guac, and it was decent. Stopped in tonight with the family, and Madre de Dios were we underwhelmed. This is 'American' Mexican food, not authentic Mexican. The lack of Mexican Americans working at the restaurant should be a sign of what to expect. It's kinda like having an American sushi chef. Anything's possible, but set expectations accordingly. Steak burrito was bland, not made with Mexican love, just made on an assembly line. "Burrito, check! Next!"...Steak was not well seasoned either. Chicken fajitas tasted like the were made from the "el paso" fajita kit from the supermarket. Chicken tasted like it was cooked on the grill and just cut up. Not seasoned or slow cooked. Meh. Stick to the drinks and guac, and you'll be fine.

Holy shit do I love Mexican food, but Mezcal Cantina can take a hike. This place reminds me of when you open the cabinet to get a Ring Ding, and your idiot brother ate the last one and left the empty box in there. It looks great from the outside, the seating and bar are promising, but when it comes to the food, they're the Ray Finkle of Mexican. Not only do their prices boast that they deserve the ever-so-coveted Super Bowl Ring, but they absolutely whiffed it on the field goal. Sure, get a margarita, get some guac, but leave the molé to your Cuban grandmother.

Clearly, there are much better choices in Worcester. My combination Taco plate was fair, at best. The fish was dried out and tasteless, the fried shrimp was very heavy and over done. Only the carrnitas had flavor. Best avoid this if you're looking for any authentic Mexican food.

Amazing tequila bar, Mezcal and Tequila selection. Solid Mexican fare, with pretty good deals if you have a couple people to share with. Love the guac!

Not bad, not bad at all. Not crazy about the all-you-can-eat taco bar, just because the taste of the meats were more "college pub-y" flavor. But for $10.99, if you are on a time constraint, great value, clean, and served with a smile. Fun. Our server Steve was AWESOME, and he enticed us to come back to try one of the MANY 'quilas. And we will!

I've had their food on two or three occasions. Haven't been there in person. The food was picked up by someone other than me. I've had the ground beef tacos, the carnitas (BBQ-like pork) tacos and the Mexican rice. I like all of them but the carnitas tacos are especially good. The tacos are $2/ea which may be about double the price of Taco Bell but it's easily worth it. They are both more filling and use much higher quality ingredients. When you order 3 or more tacos, you get a small serving of Mexican rice for free. The rice was a bit plain but good enough and appreciated since I do order at least 3 tacos. In fact I've been ordering 5 at a time, but I've never been able to finish that fifth one so far. In contrast, I can eat 10 to 15 Taco Bell tacos, which total to as much or more than the $10 I pay at Mezcal for 5. I can't say these are the best tacos ever, but I like them and hope to eat them again soon. That said, looking at the other reviews, maybe it's better that they were picked up because I HATE excessively loud restaurants.

This started off with one of the saddest margaritas I ever had, but upon mentioning that to the bartender, I quickly got a new and much better one. And, then had another one after that too. Must have been a fluke, but I'm pleased the bartender was so willing to remedy it. Good service throughout the time there. We only had some chips, salsa, and drinks so I can't comment on the food. On a Saturday night, the atmosphere was lively. Would return to check out food in the future.

Love Mezcal! I love the mass amounts of outdoor seating at the new location, the atmosphere is great, but the food and margaritas are even better! I have a gluten sensitivity, which can make dining out a bit harder at times, but Mezcal has options for that. I've gotten the corn tortilla tacos which are delicious, and LOVE the different guacamole options they have. I never thought I'd like a "Mediterranean Guacamole" but it has quickly become my favorite. I also enjoy that they have a simple margarita, I forget the name however (I'll try and update it when I go again), which is basically, tequila, lime juice, and (I think) triple sec/orange liqueur. None of that sour mix which I HATE. A bonus is that they validate parking ;) If you're craving Mexican and some outdoor seating (once New England finally warms up again - it will warm up again, right??) this is a great place to check out!

Worst nachos I've had in my life! Honestly, how do you screw up nachos? I asked for no onions or jalapenos but got plenty of them. No salsa. No guacamole. Hardly any cheese. For some reason, lettuce was served on the side. Not quite sure how that is supposed to work. Nachos were served with a spicy oil and an unidentifiable sauce that added nothing to meal - I almost think they didn't belong but the I ordered the meal to go and couldn't send it back. A complete waste of $10 with the exception of the lesson learned: don't ever eat here!

A few weeks ago my boyfriend and I used a Groupon here. We hadn't been out for dinner in a while and our experience was a treat. We started off with the Queso which came to our table still steaming. After giving it a few minutes to cool down, we cleared the dish, jalepenos included. We skipped alcoholic beverages this time to keep the bill within our budget. Believe me, I was bummed because I absolutely love their margaritas. Then came our burritos which were so packed with ingredients and flavor, for the first time I finished mine. Saving the best for last, the bread pudding. It was so delicious and filling, I took a picture and posted it on social media. Needless to say it made a lot of my friends hungry and jealous. Our service was good considering it was a busy Thursday night with a lot of larger parties. Our waitress was prompt and helpful, very pleasant as well. I love the new location compared to the tiny space they were in previously. I personally don't mind the noise there, as long as we were able to get a table in a timely manner. Get your Groupon, it's definitely worth it here!

They have great guacamole at Mezcal, so you should order it AND make sure to fill up on it, because the quality of your meal will rapidly deteriorate once that is gone. The guacamole is fresh and chunky, and just spicy enough. I ordered the vegetarian quesadillas, which were doughy and dry. They contained a very small quantity of mushrooms and had little flavor. Hungry as I was, I could only eat two of the pieces on my plate. My husband ordered the three tacos; his were also scarcely filled and flavorless. The fish in the fish taco was particularly sparse. The two vegetarian tacos tasted like they were packaged and reheated. If you like school cafeteria food, you might still be disappointed here. At least condiments are readily available at the cafeteria; here there wasn't even any salsa to augment the dry offerings. Nothing tasted Mexican and the prices were very expensive for the quality of what we received. I am giving Mezcal two stars rather than one because of the great guacamole. We didn't use it, but there is free valet parking available. It is noisy inside but that was fine, as it tends to be a young crowd.

Had reservations and specifically requested a booth but got a table in the middle of the room. Eventually we got moved but that should not have happened, it's WHY you make reservations. Place is also super loud. Service was ok, had a server in training. Ordered chicken tacos, guacamole and a pomegranate margarita. All were just ok. Seems like a lot of fuss for just average Mexican food. The Leominster location had better service, better tacos and magically, the drinks were better.

I came here for an interview dinner and was treated to a tasting of many different dishes at this place. Let alone the fact that I was eating for free here, I was pretty impressed by the quality of the food and left a happy camper! We were seated in a back room that had been reserved for my party. Big and spacious, not too loud either. Even the main restaurant area was a pretty good volume despite the numerous other parties present. Service was very attentive--maybe a little too attentive--they kept asking everyone if they wanted refills on their beers even when we still had more than half a glass to go. No complaint from me though, I was more than happy to fill up on Negra Modelo! Chips, salsa and guac were brought out once everyone showed up. I'd give this guac a B+. Definitely nothing wrong with it, but I can't say it's the best I've ever had. The salsa provided a fair amount of heat and we all munched on chips for a good half hour. Servers broke out some hot wings shortly after. I wish I remembered the exact flavors, though both were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the honey chili wings, which were a bit sticky but so worth making a mess and probably looking like a slob in front of my potential co-workers. The sweetness of the honey was balanced very well by the chili rub on these wings. Well done! The next course included a small salad which I found pretty bland. Taco lettuce, black beans, tomatoes, sprinkled with cheese. Not much flavor there. Thankfully they brought out trays of veggie quesadillas right after the salad! these were great--mushrooms, onions, peppers and spinach with a generous helping of cheese between two delicious flour tortillas. A- from me! Chicken and beef tacos were the next course. I was feeling a little full but managed to eat one of the chicken tacos. It was very flavorful and the corn tortilla was tasty. I only wished that there was a better system to dress the tacos--cheese and lettuce were provided on the plate, but I felt a little weird grabbing at the cheese when I knew everyone else would have to do the same. Last but not least...dinner was followed by probably the best churros I have ever had! They were served piping hot, but this didn't stop me from digging in right away. The chocolate dipping sauce that accompanied the churros was very rich and warm. I inhaled two of them before I was forced to stop by the enormous food baby I had developed over the course of the meal. My only regret leaving Mezcal was not being able to order a margarita for the sake of professionalism...If I were to end up working in Worcester, I would definitely come back with friends and sample the incredibly extensive tequila menu Mezcal offers!

Maybe I was naive in college to think this was some gourmet Mexican restaurant with incredible food. I treated my parents and sister to dinner there last night, and wow, that old assumption I had was dead wrong. Weak drinks, mediocre at best food, and pretty bad service - our server didnt seem to have any clue. Salsa doesnt come with the bland chips on the table- thats an upsell. Leave the chips off the table then, they dont even taste good. Used to think Niche Hospitality was the crown jewel of Worcester dining, but starting to realize it's still light years behind the 111, Sole, VIA group. Those are still my go-tos when coming into Worcester to dine.

The food here is mixed. We started with the guacamole and ceviche. The guacamole was very good. The ceviche was well seasoned but unfortunately only used one kind of fish, which made it a little boring. Next we had the pork enchiladas and the tequila lime salmon for our entrees. The enchiladas were good, but nothing to write home about. The salmon was quite tasty and a bit more original. Our waiter was nice, but the service was a bit slow, even though we went on a weeknight. Our margaritas didn't come until we got our entrees, even though we ordered them at the beginning, with everything else. In summary, some food is good and some is so-so, depending on what you get. Unfortunately, it's on the overpriced side, and the service is slow, so I'm not sure the whole experience is worth it.

Great food - we've known that for a while - but the service tonight was absolutely outstanding. Our server Michelle should open her own Server Training academy. One of the BEST servers we have ever had. Ever! Pleasant. Attentive. Honest. That is what brings us back to a place even if the food is just mediocre unbeatable service will give us reason to return. NOT in the case. The food is awesome along with *amaaaaazing* service.

Great guac and new dishes every month. It gets busy sometimes, make reservations. Huge building and can't wait for summer, they open the windows in the front of the building so you can sit out on the sidewalk in open air with margaritas. :)

Mezcal is located in downtown Worcester just across from the DCU Center. They apparently do not validate parking when there's a DCU event, so that can make going here a challenge. The restaurant itself is well laid out. They have a good bar, and they have outdoor seating for the warmer months. Entrees are is good here. Excellent chips, which are a mix of red/yellow/blue chips. Portion sizes are good, too. Even the salads will fill you up. Excellent margaritas, too, and great service from the staff. The guacamole, however, was mediocre: it seemed to have too much lime juice in it. Also, this is one of the few Mexican restaurants in New England that does brunch.

Best margaritas I've ever had!!!!! The selection was insane! My roller derby team happened to be staying across the street in the hotel and were so lucky to have found this place. The food was awesome too. The guacamole was scrumptious. I will be going back again whenever I visit Worcester.

This is no longer the great restaurant on shrewsberry st. It went from an awesome place for drinks and good food with great service to a family friendly place with sub-par everything. The service was bad, the food wasn't anything special anymore and there were kids running around. Not the great tequila bar I remember.

This was my first time finally dining at Mezcal and it was certainly worth the wait--and I'd say it also lives up to the hype. Went for Restaurant Week deal--$23.14 for 3 courses--and the food was mostly excellent!! All the apps were stellar--particularly the fried jalapeño risotto balls. We also got a huge, rock-bowl of guacamole and wished it never had to end. So tasty! The entrées were overall good--the seasonal veggies (and no rice inside) of the veggie burrito made for a messy, slightly-watered down blend, but the sauces on top made up for it and were delicious. Others at the table enjoyed their steak tacos, and Jamabalaya (so much shrimp! though wished there had been chorizo in it). We barely had room for dessert, but their fried ice cream was perfect and surprisingly light. One of us got the chili brownie and, whoa. Insane. The richness and fudginess of that sundae was other-worldly. We were happy sharing that one between the 4 of us. Their house margaritas are tasty and inexpensive (get a pitcher!) and the service was efficient, friendly and on their game (you go, Stacey!) all in all, can't wait to go back!! Bravo, Mezcal!

I was so disappointed by the Leominster location that we needed to try out Worcester before making a decision. We went to lunch today and it was eh. Out server, Nicole, was very nice and there was nothing wrong with her service. We chose to sit inside instead of out in the heat. This did not keep the 3 wasps from circling around us the entire meal. Awesome. We ordered salsa to start. It was fine. Not enough cilantro and huge tomatoes which sort of reminded me of the stuff in a jar. The chips were stale-ish and not salted. We ordered tacos (shrimp, fish and turkey) and the duck burrito. I don't know if they were picking the corn to make the tortillas or what but it took almost 30 minutes. When it arrived, I was extremely underwhelmed. The ground turkey taco was the worst. My Mexican loving boyfriend didn't want more than one bite. The shrimp was the best of the 3. Fish was eh. His burrito was good, didn't blow him away. He said the sauce on top was off, but could be a matter of taste. There was so much cabbage amongst the tacos. You could smell it a mile away. The rice that you get for free if you buy 3 tacos was good, but it was maybe 1/4 cup. All in all, we won't go to this restaurant again. It's barely Mexican food. It's pricey for what you get and seems pretentious.

Came here one night with a group of 6. We ordered the sweet and spicy wings, jalapeno rice balls and guac of appetizers. The wings and balls were ehh and the guac was just okay- definitely have had better. I got 3 soft tacos (carnitas, fried shrimp and duck) with a side of mixed veggies. I didnt finish the tacos. I tried to share them with my husband, he opted not to eat them either. Everyone felt their food wasnt "real" mexican. Our friends ordered chimichangas but said how it didnt really have much cheese. Positive note: Okay so our waitress forgot one of our orders (my husband's entree but offered to still make it or provide dessert and apologized greatly but after all the food, he wasnt hungry and decided not to pursue) but her service was very attentive and nice the whole time.

Ive been here a few times. I get their groupons so its worth it. Ambiance, i like it not too loud, looks nice etc.... Drinks - they are very pricey even for worcester. Specialty drinks are 9-10.50 a pop. They are good and tasty but overpriced. The house margarita is about 6 so i tend to go w that. Food - ive done their all u can eat tacos a few times. I like the selection and optioms. Quite a few different sauces and combos (spicy slaw, corn, beans etc...) u can make some unique tacos. With the groupon at 5 bucks its worth it. As for other plates, ive had a salman special w wasabi sauce at the leomi ster location which was wonderful. The tacos a la carte has some good ones (fish tacos mmmm) and i got the fish melt sandwich which i enjoyed alot. The guacamole mixer....i almost forgot.....they have some different stuuf on this. I love the tai rooster, great stuff. The mediteranean wasnt so good. The crunchy was ok but i like a new take on it. The tropical guacamole was pretty good too. Be advemturous and try em out. Service - ive never had a problem w the service at all. I like that they pay for the parking too. Last rime we were there i asked about the groupon that wasnt for the lunch tacos and the waitress was very helpful and didnt give any attitude about groupon or anything lime that. Overall a solid place that my wife and i will hit up for lunch during the week.

My husband and I were in the mood for Mezcal, as we had visited the previous location on occasion, but were soon to soon to find it had moved! Don't be scared off by the fact that it's downtown! The parking situation is better than ever (they validate if it's not a DCU event night). The actual restaurant is huge, new and even has a function area for bridal or baby shower size events. Fantastic food, especially the Sunday brunch, great decor. We had fun and a great meal!

I have been a regular customer since the Shrewsbury Street location opened. I love the new location, plenty of seating, fun atmosphere. Service is always solid. I love the Guac, especially the crunchy. Soft tacos are very good especially the veggie ones. I love the Margaritas, ask for the "skinny", they use fresh limes instead of sour mix which makes them less heavy.

The staff was nice, inside had a nice set up. Two issues that day. The Ceviche of the day smelled and tasted like the Ceviche of yesterday. Pungent aroma and could only taste salt. Ordered it for our table and it was not finished. Second I ordered a margarita and asked for freshly jalapeño slices muddled in. It came back with a murky brownish color. The jalapeños were either not fresh or they used the pickled variety. Not a good experience at this place.

Went last night for the first time since the move to the new location. Soooo disappointed. The burrito has changed and I'm Ashamed to admit we were comparing it to Moes... And Moes won. :-( On a better note, which is why I gave it 2 stars instead on one, the guacamole hasn't changed and is still FANTASTIC! The raspberry coconut margaritas were all juice. I didn't even notice a tequila flavor. I used to enjoy this restaurant when it was on shrewsbury street. I'm not sure what had happened with the food quality since expansion or why they are skimping on tequila since that's "their specialty". Whatever the reason, they lost this customer.

I am ok to eat here, but wouldn't go out of my way. Very unauthentic tasting Mexican food here with very sauce drenched taco meats etc. I can't believe they don't even have Carne Asada tacos on the menu. That was kind of disappointing. The other taco meats seem to be well drenched in sauces of various types. The shredded beef tastes like it's soaked in BBQ sauce..weird.. This is central MA however, so it's hard to expect good Mexican food out here. It's ok, nothing terribly offensive, but as another poster said it's a bit sad to say that Moe's is better. Sorry Mezcal. The atmosphere also feels utilitarian and very gray and reminds you that you are definitely are inside a parking garage..sigh. I will say the guac is good, but that's not enough for me.

First time here. Atmosphere: Ok. I like the art work on the walls near the bar. Mexican masked wrestlers. Like Nacho Libre. Lol Open space, but noisy. Free valet parking. Menu/Food: Ok menu. It was kinda boring. There were no combo plates and I could not find anything really special about it. I had the pork chimichunga. It was served with a (no joke) a tablespoon of rice and salad. Really bad platting. The chunga was gigantic though. It consisted of shredded pork, onions, mushrooms & jalapenos. Tasty but not very "Mexican" to me. Me and my friend decided to try the guacamole sampler. You choose three. We had the house guacamole and salsa and the "breakfast" kind. The house guacamole was ok with a little kick. The salsa was really spicy. The breakfast one was by far my favorite. It was the house guacamole with a boiled egg, bacon and blue cheese. Ask for the hot sauce on the side. on the side. Drinks: sangria and mai tai margaritas. Delicious. Order with less ice. A smooth taste where the buzz sneaks up on you. WARNING! The pitcher is $23 (that's about 4 glasses). Service: It was really busy on our visit. The hostess did not ask us if we preferred a booth. When we ask our server to move she said no problem. Unfortunately, it was not her table. We stayed at our table. We honestly did not see our server a lot and our food took a while. Despite the wait, our server Katie was really nice and even saved us a seat at the bar later for more sangria. Our bar server Rocky was equally as sweet. Very good to us. I'll go back! But wasn't wowed.

Food is so worth it. Yes people will whine and complain that everythings over priced (which may be true) but the margaritas are delicious and I've never ordered a bad thing off the menu. The lunch taco bar is a must try. If your really that worried about the check then take your ebt card on over to tacobell. I hated the shrewsbury street location because it was so cramped and you had to wait like an hour for a table on a Monday. This location is huge and you can just park in the garage which is attached to the restaurant and get validated free. One of my favorite "going out" mexican restaurants.

Nothing says mexican like weak margaritas and overpriced comida.. Not a fan of wanna be flashy mexican joints. Its nice that you can park for free in the lot and outdoor seating whens it's nice out.

Went there and C was right...we should have walked straight out....it's too big....too sparse....too unmexican....and the concrete floors and ceiling bounce the noise around...and you cannot hear yourself speak. Our waitress was great...but then there was only so much she could work with. The four berry margarita pitcher was good value at $23, and the wings were good not great. The trio of guacamole at $12 is steep and was average at best. We then both had tacos which were almost inedible. Our waitress was disappointed that we hadn't enjoyed our meal and sent over one of the managers who attempted to intimidate us by standing over us with arms spread wide resting on the booth backs...and said that we were the only people who hadn't enjoyed their food. C has this ability to dead pan stare back a look that says 'just f**king try me'....end result...they comp'd the food. Everything is wrong about the place. They should have stayed at their old location....bigger is not always better...and in this case...it might just sink them

Stopped in for dinner after a long day of work. I was staying across the street at the Hilton Garden Inn. The front desk staff highly recommended trying it. I had a combination taco plate. All of the tacos were excellent. The guacamole didn't have enough kick, but was pretty good. Also, they have an excellent tequila selection.

After a long day of dance competition at DCU, we figured we'd be able to quickly get a table for 2 at 9 pm. Wrong. After a 20 minute wait, we settled for seats at the bar. The bartenders were great even though my daughter and I were not drinking. The 'happy' patron next to me, was practically leaning on me throughout the night which made me wish we had waited another ten minutes for a table. The guac flight is always a favorite choice. We love the crunchy and the tropical. Never realized you could experiment so much with guac. This alone is worth the wait. The rest of our meal was typical Mexican with very small side servings of rice on the plate. They lost their uniqueness when they moved to the bigger location, but well forgive them because of their guac!

I was pleasantly surprised by this modern take on Tex-Mex cuisine. Traveling to Worcester, MA for business in February is not an ideal time of year to see what this city has to offer. This place is directly across the street from the hotel. The Enchiladas, one pork carnitas, one chicken, were presented beautifully on a plate with a red, white and green sauce design. They tasted as good as the plating looked. The homemade guacamole was wonderful. The Tex-Mex spring rolls were definitely a great fusion with Thai cuisine. Oh, the Margaritas are excellent, as well. I recommend this place, not only for the great food and drink, but, also the friendly staff, and the atmosphere right down to the masked Mexican wrestler paintings lining the hallway.

I think I've finally decided I don't like you, Mezcal. I really, really want to, though. And gosh, so many people do love you. I was there last night and I'll start with a positive: the service was good. Waitress was attentive and management kept checking in with us because they realized there was a ridiculously large group of parents and kids - a hockey team outing, we guessed- who were running around and screaming and generally ruining the experience for any table nearby. (Who brings a pile of kids to Mezcal at 8 pm when there's a pizza joint across the street?!) Anyhow, I've never been a fan of the entrees here - have never found exactly my thing but I've always liked to come back because my friends do. We were frequent flyers to the old location. So even without a favorite entree, I was always happy to fill up on the guac sampler and margaritas. Sad to report now that even the margaritas aren't cutting it. For a table of 6, we ordered (over the course of the night) three pitchers of berry margarita. They were SO weak and cloyingly sweet, I wondered if they weren't mixed right and the tequila was sitting in the bottom of the pitcher. Decided in the end: no. That were just really, REALLY weak. So, a $17 pitcher of berry juice with 'essence of tequila' x 3. Hm. And the noise. Omg. The noise. Make it stop!!! This giant warehouse of a space is so, SO CRAZY loud. Do not expect to come here without screaming your conversation to your dinner companions and leaving with a sore throat. Our table of six had 3 separate conversations going because you simply couldn't hear the other people at the other end of the table. (Noise was equally as loud before and after ridiculous kids hockey team left. So, that wasn't it) Oh Mezcal. Everyone loves you. I wish I did too. But without a good margarita, not likely I'll put up with the shenanigans for only a bowl of chips and guac. EDIT/UPDATE: hi Michael, thanks for the reply!! Unfortunately, you seem to have inadvertently reinforced the points I made in my original review. 1.) Management and staff are attentive 2.) the space is way too loud and 3.) there are in fact weak margaritas on the menu for a restaurant that is supposed to be known for their amazingly delicious tequila margaritas. Please don't read any snark in this: you say that you could have fixed this for us. You/your colleagues were at our table. We all chatted. No ' fixing' happened. And that's ok but why bring it up now? Look, I'm caught up in a group of friends that loves you so much that I'm sure I'll be back. But the reality is this: for someone who wants to try Mezcal for the first time based off your stellar reputation alone, you've got a few obstacles that could ruin a first timers' experience. Only a customer who goes back over and over again will figure out the secret code to Mezcal bliss... You tell me that I have to ask for a special quiet table, you confirmed that there are drinks on the menu that are in fact much weaker than others and you said that even you can't taste the tequila in a berry margarita. These are things that will definitely affect a first time customer. As far as entrées, I'll find my joy there someday but as of now I have ordered a different thing every time and I haven't stumbled upon it yet. Keep on with the delicious guacamole and I'm going to get a skinny margarita next time. There will be a next time. I just want to love you more than I do now. Oh, and I added a star. I don't want to be "that girl".

We loved the old location. Guacamole was actually made to order there. New place is not. It's pre-made, watery, bland... Just horrible! And they used to give you free salsa but now they charge $4 for a tiny dish of bland, flavorless chopped onion and tomato. Seriously?! Fish tacos were rancid. Inedible. Margaritas not made with the same care and quality. Waitress was nice. I don't care for the new cold and industrial atmosphere, but if the food were same quality I would overlook that. It's so disappointing because this was one of our favorite places in Worcester, but we will not return.

Great food and really good margaritas. Lots of different flavors of margaritas to choose from and they're all delicious. I love their guacamole, which comes in several different variations, and the quesadillas are good as well. Servers are always attentive and willing to make changes on menu items. I've been with my boyfriend many times and it is consistently good. Can be crowded and noisy on weekends.

We started with the guacamole trio: house, Mediterranean, and tropical. The tropical was amazing and the Mediterranean was good, but not really my taste. We never received the house guacamole... And our server was no where to be found. 15 minutes later, he finally returned. I wish that I could say it was because the restaurant was just soooo busy, but it wasn't. We saw him standing around and chatting with other employees, on the other side of the room, several times. The mix up was resolved (he mistakenly brought salsa and we decided to just brush it off), so we moved on to the main dish. I ordered the taco trio: carnitas, Asian Beef and adobo beef. The dish came with rice, which tasted like it came out of a box. The refried beans (a side order) tasted a little burned and the bacon chunks were nothing but bits of fat. The Carnitas taco was amazing. The adobo beef taco was good, but there was nothing note-worthy about it. The Asian beef taco was very soggy when it arrived and it contained mostly cabbage. It's sad because the meal seemed promising, based on the menu descriptions, but the actual dishes left much to be desired. To be honest, I wouldn't waste my time coming here again. I had a much better time and meal at Plaza Azteca. THEIR guacamole is beyond amazing. They make it right in front of you and it's super fresh!! And the other dishes that I've tried there have been delicious as well. I should add that the best part of the night was the valet service. The young men that they hired as valets are beyond amazing. They were very nice and quick too. Our valet literally ran to the car to lower the amount of time that we would be waiting outside, even though we chose to wait outside instead waiting indoors. After a sub par meal, this was the highlight of our evening.

The maragaristas are awesome! There's an entire tequila menu...Tequila menu! And to top it off they have a fresh guacamole basically any way you want it! I would've given it five starts, but I waited over an hour to be seated so make sure you make a reservation!

  • Matt R.

Ah-mazing. I can't speak for how the restaurant has changed since moving, but I can speak for what it is now and I'll give you the quick rundown. Not sure why people are complaining about parking. There is a parking garage directly next door and it's free for the restaurant. Or, you can pull up directly in front for FREE valet. I don't know what makes it "snooty", but the valet guys held the door open to the restaurant for every single person I saw go in. Yes it's new, but this is a very nice place inside. It's very, very big, which creates a pretty loud environment, but I was able to hear everyone at my table just fine. MAKE A RESERVATION! Just want to throw that in there. This place is absolutely gigantic, but even with that, the wait was an hour and a half. Just make a reservation- you can even do it online if you hate talking to people. We were able to be seated 20 minutes before our reservation time which was perfect. We were told we could wait at the bar until our reservation time, but we didn't feel like doing that. Now on to the important thing, the food. I absolutely love Mexican food, and get it all the time. This is definitely one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had. I really regret not taking photos of the food...sorry world! Started off with a guacamole tasting flight, which is three different guacamoles along a platter (a perfect amount for 4 or 5 people I would say....we polished it off between 2 of us). They are known for their guac, so this is definitely recommended. I got a mix of the regular house guac, crunchy, and tropical. They were all AMAZING. Paired with homemade chips and salsa (which unfortunately they do charge for), that was enough for a meal right there. But, I sucked it up and continued onto the main course. I ordered chicken fajitias and they were honestly some of the best I've ever had. They serve the fajitas in a hot pan, which I always love, but with more liquid than usual. It created more of a stu inside the pan, but that made it even better in my eyes (and more specifically, my mouth). I will 100% be back. Ideally, this place is great for groups as you can make a great experience from huge amounts of guacamole and pitchers of margaritas, but I don't mind not going with a large party. I've never seen a place that large be that crowded, and yet I was in an out in an hour. MAKE A RESERVATION! That is all.

In order to provide full disclosure, I did interview for this location but chose not to accept the position I was offered. I had dinner here and was supremely disappointed by the service. The food was good. I would not say it was great but it was good. The location is large and loud. It is underneath a parking garage and lacks the feel of an average Mexican restaurant. The service was horrific. Our waitress seemed extremely shy, and honestly scared to wait on us. She forgot several things throughout the time we were there. Most notably a margarita which came as we were finishing our food. The Mezcal training enforces impeccable service but this did not even come close. I have received more polite and attentive service in fast food restaurants. I asked a waiter where the bathroom was and he pointed it out to me, another big no-no in the "niche way." Finally, our waitress tried to clear the table before we were finished, without asking. I think the entire Niche group needs to check in with themselves. They are extremely pretentious regarding their excellence in service. They require experience before you wait tables and their training seems to reflect what one would experience at a Michelin Star restaurant. However, in actuality what you receive in inattentive service with an attitude. Okay food. Too high prices. Awful service. I wouldn't go back.

We had dinner there on a Wednesday night. The location is great, very spacious dining room, and great new location. The food is excellent! I had one of the best Mexican dishes I've ever tasted. My biggest complaint was the service. It was a very slow evening, so that can't be an excuse. But we were seated for 15 minutes before even being asked about a drink order. I felt ignored. When I finally got a drink we weren't asked about food! I finally insisted on placing an appetizer, as I was really hungry! It was a full 3o minutes before our appetizer came from the time we were seated. So while the food was delicious, they need to work on their staff.

Definitely had a 5 star experience on Friday night at the new Mezcal. Met a friend around 5pm and we got a high top bar/booth table which was nice and out of the way, quiet but still felt a part of the restaurant. Our server was super nice and brought us some of the duck that goes in the tacos to try because we were going back and forth on what to order. Margaritas could have been stronger for $8 but they were fresh and delicious. Had the guacamole sampler which is always a go-to. All around, great meal, great experience and friendly staff all around. I also couldn't believe how huge it was!! Can't wait to go back.

For many years, Mezcal has been the go-to late night spot for us girls to unwind after a long week. Their margaritas are phenomenal! Our favs are the rasp coconut, mango & blood orange. A pitcher can yield 4+ servings and is such a great deal compared to the $48 that Boston charges which doesn't even compare. Love their guac which is made to order. We also enjoy their pulled pork sliders & veg#2 tacos very much. Sadly, they relocated to downtown Worcester. Service and quality has been jeopardized. It's simply not the same anymore. Parking sucks! There's no street parking available, the guys at valet are so snooty and who wants to park in the garage?! The bartenders must be new and still training bc we have never had a bad drink at the old Mezcal. Waitstaff are not attentive, unprofessional and did not know the menu. And worst of all, the scene... wow! Industrial, ok. But the clientele... hootchies, thugs, wannabes, etc Bad move! Pls come back to Shrewsbury

The food was OUTSTANDING, love the variety of the menu, the food was presented well and tasted great. We were there on a Wed evening at 7:00 so wasn't really busy. Our server was training someone else so we had two people tending to our needs which proved to be just too much. Not sure if it was the communication between them or not but nearly every 5 minutes (or less) we had someone stopping by our table and checking on us. We felt like a watched pot! We were in no rush with our meal as we were primarily there to enjoy each other and talk. We felt pressured to finish and pay the bill asap. When I came right out and asked the server if it would help if we just paid and left they seemingly genuinely assured us that there was no rush, that we were to take as long as we needed. Besides that I loved the place and will def be back.

Like all of the Niche Group restaurants....they work really hard to make their food and your experience first rate.....this incarnation of Mezcal just opened and I made the mistake of going in on the day they opened....waited a looooong time for lunch.....and the waitress made the rookie mistake of assuring us that our food was "1 minute away" when it was nearly thirty minutes "away"....my bad.....I know better than to go in on the first day of operations.....having said that....when the food finally arrived it was superb and the manager came over to offer his apologies for the mix up.....I've loved this place and eat at their other two locations (this one replaces the Shrewsbury Street location) with regularity because it is excellent. The vegetarian chili is great and the guacamole options are the best you'll find anywhere in New England....I'm addicted to the Thai Rooster and Tropical guacamoles. At this new location they have a taco bar of sorts where you decide how many, what type of tortilla and what fillings you'd like.....these tacos are made by a chef so it's not like you're at the all you can eat taco bar at your local Sizzler....no my friends, Mezcal is a gem, the fish entrees are always amazing and the tequila selections alone make this a must try. Best Mexican restaurant I've eaten at outside of San Antonio or San Diego for stateside choices. They used to have "Taco Tuesdays" and if they still have that go on a Tuesday and try them all....amazing. The chicken salad made with chicken salad (I forget what they call it) is loaded with delicious chicken salad, cashews and fresh greens....just try it.

I have to say I liked the atmosphere better at the old location, especially sitting at the bar or at the upstairs section looking our over the main floor but the place could very crowded very quickly. The new location has much more room and is just across the street from the hotel I always stay at. It is part of a restaurant group that includes my favorite bar in town - The Citizen (a very short walk away so try both on same night). Mezcal is great for you and a group of friends. The food at Mezcal is excellent as are the margaritas (the smoky mezcal is recommended). You also can't go wrong with a tasting flight of guacamole. I recommend that any guacamole flight include the Thai Rooster and the Crunchy. By the time my dinner arrives, I am usually stuffed but I usually have the Shrimp and Chorizo Risotto. Mezcal is highly recommended.

the food at mezcal is consistently excellent every time we go there. I always get the chicken quesadilla and love it with rice and beans. They lose a star, however, because the new location is EXTREMELY noisy. we went there and there was no wait and empty tables and it was still so loud we couldn't hear ourselves think. Also, I know the wait staff was still training and such when we went but the waiter was definitely weak. He wasn't friendly at all, didn't really seem to like his job.

Food underwhelming. The guac is good. Fish tacos, eh. Carnitas tacos ok. Veg #2 tacos interesting. Service prompt, friendly. Great for groups, gets noisy.

Over hour hour wait for a table! Must say -Guacamole at the bar was very good & best margarita I have ever had...

Excellent drink menu with an incredible tequila selection. Open sliding doors last night created a nice atmosphere. Our server Ricky was great. We tried the guacamole sampler. Very fresh and great selection. Shared the fajitas that very also very good. Easy walking distance from the downtown hotels.

I sat at the bar and ordered a few tacos. The place was very busy so the service was kind of slow. However the servers were always very attentive and pleasant whenever they came over. Other reviewers have said it is loud in there and they are right. It seems like it shouldn't get as loud as it does. The tacos are excellent and were dirt cheap for the quality. And they have specialty hot sauces!

Came here for the first time with some friends. The place is really nice, I really liked the decor. The service was OK, our server tended to our needs but it was kind of hard to get his attention. Now for the food. I ordered the chicken tacos and my friend ordered the chicken tacos with shrimp. Mine came with plantains and my friend ordered it with rice. The disappointment came when the food arrived. The tacos come with lettuce and cheese on the side to add on to the taco. As I picked up the taco, the tortilla disintegrated in my hand. I also noticed the chicken did not look appetizing at all, it honestly looked like mushy chewed up food. I showed the waiter what had happened and he proceeded to bring more tortilla who later also disintegrated in my hands. Finally when I was able to at it, it was bland and lacked seasoning. The rice was also bland and tasteless. The only reason why I gave the restaurant one star was for the plantains. They were a little odd at first because they were spicy but they turned out to be pretty good. Overall: won't return anytime soon

I went in last night with my bf and son after we bought a groupon. I had wanted to go for awhile because everyone always has great things to say about the place. They have free valet; They literally run to open your car doors for you. Our server was Liz and she was really nice and very attentive. She had 5 other tables as well as ours and she still made time to check in on us regularly. Since my bf was driving, I had 3 margaritas (Be careful, they'll sneak up you)! They were made perfectly; Not too strong, not too weak. My bf ordered steak which was cooked perfectly and I ordered fajitas with a ton of extra guacamole (because guac is freaking delicious). Our food came out very quickly and everything was accurate. No complaints whatsoever! If you're going to Mezcal, I would recommend buying the groupon for $30 because you get a ridiculous amount of food for it. Just don't forget to tip your server on the amount BEFORE the groupon! :) They work very hard and deserve it!

Love the guacamole and margaritas here. Bartenders are always on point. Sadly they changed the recipe for one of their salads that my friend enjoys, so that was disappointing on our last visit. Hopefully they go back to the way it was! Have gone for tequila dinners before and those were awesome, highly recommend it!

I'm sure the food is descent here but I left after being ignored multiple times by the blonde headed server out on the patio. Other customers next to me were attended to as well as others who he checked on. The only reason why I even give this one star is due to the hostess being so apologetic... What a disappointment!

Really like the new location! very roomy, and the parking situation is much better. Had dinner with a friend on a Saturday night. There was a 45-min wait for a table so we opted to sit at the bar. The bartender was super nice and the food was great, especially the house margaritas and the guacamole flight. It was a bit noisy, but what more do you want for a Saturday night! I'd definitely go back.

For our first trip to the new, GIANT Mezcal, my food was good, my margarita was great and the dessert was awesome. My wife's meal (stuffed chicken) was so over cooked and dry that it was inedible. The manager apologized profusely and offered to bring another meal. She had some of mine instead of waiting, so he took care of our desserts instead. This was much appreciated and did help a lot in my opinion of the meal. My only issue is that he didn't ask what was wrong with her meal. We told the waitress it was bad and he just came over, apologized and tried to help us fix it. If he had known what he issue was (I am sure he saw it when he took it back to the kitchen) he would be able to prevent it in the future.

I really liked this place. First time there the other night and it was packed. I was a bit hesitant and not sure about parking. However, there is garage connected to the restaurant which is very convenient and cheap to park there for a few hours. They also have valet if that's the way you want to go. The food was very good and the drinks were awesome. I will definitely be back, especially when it's pay day. Our waitress Catee or Katie (I remember her saying it was spelled differently) was VERY attentive and took very good care of us especially when we told her it was our first time there. And, she wasn't fake either, she was extremely genuine about the dishes and drinks and made excellent recommendations. She's awesome.... The only downfall is it's very expensive here. Other than that, I do recommend this place.

Yum! This is by far one of my favorite places for Mexican and I was so thrilled when they relocated to a much larger venue. The freshly made guacamole is a must as are any of the margarita options. I am a creature of habit and tend to order the tacos on each visit but recently tried the enchiladas which were a great choice! My husband ordered a nightly special which was a Mexican version of chicken and waffles-delish! In our countless trips here, we have never had a less-than-stellar meal. Go, go, go. You won't be disappointed.

This was our first time to the downtown location although we had visited Shrewsbury Street several times. We purchased a Groupon to the Leominster location and were so disappointed that we left. BUT to focus on the positive when I called the Worcester location and spoke to the Manager, Andrew, I received wonderful customer service. He stated that they would honor the Groupon, no questions asked. Tonight we went and had a GREAT dinner. The restaurant is very nice and offers outside seating and open air indoor seating. Our drinks and food were fresh and delicious and our waiter was wonderful. We shared with them that we are getting married in a week and they even treated us to margaritas. We will be going back soon!! How refreshing to encounter a restaurant that truly cares about customer service!

My wife and I bought a Groupon for their taco bar for lunch. We were very happy with the food, the service, the bartender was helpful and was the right balance of talkative and helpful and genuine. We had a great experience and we will go back again. I liked the way the place was set up and all the staff were friendly. The lady at the front desk was nice to explain the parking. We have been to the other restaurants owned by this group and have always been happy.

Used to love this place when it was located on shrewsbury street. I don't know what their problem is, but I honestly think their staff changes over every couple weeks. I've never seen the same workers. Same goes for the food. I get the same dish every time I come and every time it tastes different and the quality goes down. Tonight our waiter Kenny brought our drinks after our appetizer that took maybe 20 minutes alone. Actual meals took a long time. Didn't check in with us about our meal until after we were halfway done. He pivoted in to ask us "how is everything?" And pivoted back and walked away before listening for a response. He was very cold and MIA most of the night. He didn't ask if I needed a box until AFTER a nearby waitress took it upon herself to ask if we needed a box (after she was watching us most of the night looking around the restaurant for Kenny). And to top it off he was training someone, Anthony. What a terrible example to set.

My wife and I considered their old location to be one of our favorite spots in Worcester, but the new location leaves a lot to be desired. The food was ok, but not spectacular, and the service was also ok, but the noise level overcomes any of the place's good qualities. It's next to impossible to carry on a conversation without shouting. There ere only two of us, and I can't imagine trying to talk to people if there were other's with us. Unfortunately, this has gone on our "do not return" list.

Really good food. Great margaritas. Cheapskate charging for those weak chips, oh well, all-around good. The asst. mgr. Andrew is very nice. I understand there are 3 Mike's here. I believe the one with the last name "Mills" from what I am told was super rude to us on Thursday March 6th. We had great waitresses and the manager Andrew was great March 3rd Monday - to Sunday as I was in town meeting clients. They went out of their way to get fresh rice for our 2 year old boy. I dropped a couple grand on clients during the week here. We stayed across the street at the Hilton Garden Inn. But the night of a concert the manager "Mills" I mentioned was rude, told me "21,000 people are descending on Worcester" what do I expect? He lied and I knew it about the wait. Didn't smile, was terse talking to the gals up front. Uncomfortable being the face of the store. Walked away as I cordially spoke to him, dick. I dunno, F-ing Sturgis with a quarter million going to a smaller town, how do they do it? This guy sucks, I asked him why he was in a bad mood and I told Andrew. This place has plenty of business, they don't need me. I gave $5 to a mariachi and the dick took it and walked off, Andrew told me it was for a private party. First time to this town but once people get tired or an Uncle Julio's comes to town people will grow old of the joint (I hope.) Or fire this weak lame and promote Andrew or a server gal and I'll come stay here again. I kiss people's ass buying 100 grand pumps that are rude to me, smarten up and promote Andrew. Yet I kill everyone with kindness including this "Mills" lame. Send this lame to Applepee's, let him lame-up their front of house.

We were in town visiting friends and all they do is rave about this place, so they took us out tonight. Mike, the waiter was awesome. He made great recommendations on what to try. To start the four of us shared the jalapeno rice balls which were amazing. I would put the aioli they served with it on cereal if I could. They were out of the gorditas so we had the pulled pork sliders. Whatever they marinate the pork in was incredible. For dinner I had the burrito with carnitas. It was huge! The filling was incredibly flavorful. My wife had the enchiladas. She asked to have them without crema on top but they arrived with it on anyway. She wouldn't send them back. For dessert our party of four shared the chocolate cheesecake and the churro bread pudding. Skip the cheesecake but definitely get the bread pudding. Warm and inviting on a bitter cold day in Worcester. Also, I don't drink but my wife and my friends said the drinks were excellent.

I went a lot to the old location on Shrewsbury Street, I don't go here as much because parking is a pain....DO THE VALET. It's free, just give them a tip. I try to follow the Paleo diet as much as possible and I am biased towards Mexican food. This is an easy place to stay paleo. Get the fajitas, no cheese, and don't eat the tortillas. I love the guac and you can ask for peppers, celery sticks and carrots instead of the corn chips. If you ask for the skinny house margarita, they just do tequila, lemon and lime juice...as clean as it gets for alcohol! The only reason I didn't put 5 starts was because they seem a little slow in the new place.

    (4)
  • Amber S.

They took away all the easy-to-access parking outside and replaced it with snooty valet. Not worth the hassle of jumping snow banks or bothering with the parking garage. Went home rather than give the new location a shot because it shouldn't be this much work to pay $60 for 2 people to eat out in Worcester.

A more suave Mexican restaurant I would say. Not tacky. For two women out on a Saturday night the bartender Jeff completely made us feel at home. Telling us stories, making amazing margarita pitchers, and just a fun bunch. All the bartenders that night showed they loved what they do and in that energy everyone was happy. Jeff made us a special pitcher and very worth it. We did a quesadilla which came with cheese in the pan and the pita and chips on the side. Very yummy. I felt like a regular and will be back for more shanigans.

It's true what some of the reviews say about the noise but in reality it's kind of nice. It feels like you are at "the place to be". Sat at the bar for dinner to catch the Bruins game and it was jammed the entire time. Really fun atmosphere. Chicken burrito was tasty and beer ice cold. Food came out fresh and hot. Would definitely come back.

Was at DCU for small event and stopped in for dinner on a Saturday and brunch on Sunday. The servers were helpful and knew the menu well. The food was flavorful with just a touch of heat and sauces were available to kick it up if desired. We will be returning on future visits to DCU and other times when in the area. I had parked in the structure above before deciding to stop in and my parking ticket was validated and I had no added cost to park, if there is a large event at DCU one should consider valet parking.

Our 1st time at the new location..... Rule #1: Make a reservation.....which we did not do.....we were told it was going to be a 30 minute wait so we stayed but ended up waiting 50 minutes. We were sat at one of the free standing high tops in the bar area which we don't typically mind except that every other person who was waiting for a table was in the bar area hovering over us/breathing down our necks. Guacamole: Delicious! Margaritas: Delicous! The rest of the food: Eh...nothing super special This location is significantly larger than the old location but it's kind of industrial looking which a lot of cement and exposed pipes and it just makes it really, really loud. That could have also been because we were in the jam-packed bar area.

Ever since they moved to the new location they have become cheap. Ordered nachos and asked for extra jalapeños. Order came out no extra. I then asked the waitress for some and she comes out with raw chopped up ones and I asked her for the ones that you eat with nachos and she had told me that the kitchen told her to grab the ones at the bar and that it's the only one that they had. I don't understand what's so hard about giving me extra. I didn't mind paying for it but they just seemed like they didn't want to give any at all. Not a fan at all.

The food is amazing! I go to a lot of mexican places and this is by far the best. The guacamole is amazing, we got the flight where we got to try three different types of guacamole we tried the special, buffalo chicken, and meditarranian and all were great. I have also had the queso fundido was great. I usually get the enchiladas and the red mole sauce they put on top is amazing. The Chimichangas are also excellent. Margaritas are not as strong as I would like but they have so many options it's great. I love Mezcal!

I have been to this restaurant a bunch of times, and I had the best waiter by far tonight, Kenny. He was training a new server and I could tell he was really teaching his trainee his true passion for customer service. He put his all into making sure we were as comfortable and satisfied as we could possibly be. Drinks were perfect. Food looked and tasted amazing. Guac, guac, guac!!!! And most importantly, the service was the best I've ever had. Thank you Kenny for making our experience so memorable and delicious and I know that his mentee will continue to pass on the tricks and experience he has provided. We can't wait to go back again and will most definitely request Kenny as our server. Thank you Mezcal. Ole!

I will say the margaritas were great, and the free valet is a plus. BUT when the server offers my boyfriend and I some salsa and guacamole before our meals, I didn't think that meant a GIANT cauldron of guacamole that could feed a family of 5 comfortably. $11 later, I was pretty disappointed about this. AND $4 for a small cup of salsa (that was chunky and looked gross)?! Never heard of a Mexican restaurant charging for that. We didn't even want it/touch it; we assumed it was complimentary. Overall, my meal was only okay. $12 for a bland ground beef quesadilla with some old iceberg lettuce tossed on the side of the plate. There are MUCH better Mexican restaurants with better prices in the area. The unlimited taco bar for lunch is good I will say, but will not be returning for dinner. Extremely overpriced and not worth it.

Ok I'm not Mexican but I eat so much Mexican food I think I'm half Mexican at this point. BEST MEXICAN IN WORCESTER. Second best in all of Boston. The only place in Massachusetts that has better Mexican is Temazcal in the Seaport in downtown Boston but if you live in Worcester there's just no competition. I got Sangria and a chicken quesadilla, I could probably eat a quesadilla from Mezcal everyday for the rest of my life it was so amazing. Its really spacious so you can go as a big group (and maybe meet other Mexican lovers too). Oh yeah and the guacamole here is SO good, I didn't feel awful or gross when I left so you know its good quality food.

When they were on Shrewsbury street they were an awesome place to eat. Great food. We went to the new location and it was very disappointing. The place was so loud that we couldn't even converse among ourselves. And water dripped on us from the overhead pipes. Worse was what they did to the food. I loved the BBQ duck tacos at the former location, and the other types also. This time when ordering 3 tacos, you get 3 small hard shells with a couple of tablespoons of plain meat in them. A few bites, and nobody could even tell which were duck and which were beef, they all tasted the same, and tasted very disappointing. Taco Bell has better food then Mezcal does now. Definitely done with them, which is a shame.

This place is fantastic. They really improved upon the experience by moving to a much larger location with ample parking, a very large bar and more room overall to accommodate larger groups. The guacamole and margaritas are still the best around. Highly recommend MezCal.

I ordered the chicken enchiladas and they were pretty good but I couldn't believe how small the portions were. Food was good which constitutes the 3 stars but it loses a star for price and another for the portion size. Your better off going down Lincoln st and ordering from plaza azteca

Ok so first I must say that I absolutely love this place. I love the new location, it's so much bigger, and a bit more comfortable. Reservations are a must, super easy to book via open table. For those people complaint about waiting for dinner, wellsybe you should go to less popular place such as Viva Bene, warning though, it won't be nearly as good! That's why there is a wait, because it's a great place!! Also I always use the Valet, they are not snooty as some said in reviews. They are polite, and you should be tipping them! Maybe you are the problem! If you don't want to Valet, use the parking garage, don't complain about having to walk 50 ft from garage to lobby, stop bring lazy! I have been to the new location several times, honestly it's great. Food and drunks are exactly the same. Service is also great too. Come here, enjoy a pitcher and a guacamole flight!

If anyone thinks this is Mexican food, they should shop around. What Mexican place doesn't give you chips and salsa for free when you sit down? I have traveled all over USA and this is the only one I have ever encountered. Slow service on a not busy night. Food was the worst I ever had, the drinks are overly sweet. Did they even paint the old Shoobooms before moving in some chairs and calling it a restaurant? Once is enough for me. Actually felt ill when we left here.

The new location for this place is the old Sh-Booms. It's a big space and the decor should be a little more "Mezcal" and a little less "Warehouse loft look". Maybe in the summer it will be cool because it looks like the windows open up and maybe they will have seating outside!! The guacomole thingy was interesting. You choose 3 different "flavors" and go for it. They have a lot of choices for that and all 3 we chose were good. I don't remember the names of them but its a good choice to start your meal. I had the fish taco which was pretty decent. The sauce was good. I needed some more spice and asked for hot sauce. They make their own and it was hot but weird. It seemed like Heinz 57 sauce on some kind of steroid. I'd like to try this place again, like I said, maybe in the summer to see how that is. I liked the environment of the place when it was on Shrewsbury St but maybe it's because I went there on Cinco de Mayo!

I wouldn't rush back for food but I would go back for drinks!

soo apparently the only time you receive service and food in a prompt manner is if you come when the restaurant is dead, and there are no other guests. four of us came here on a saturday night, with a reservation for 5:45. we had an event at the DCU center across the way, which started at 7:30. i had a groupon for 2 apps, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. our appetizer of "queso" was melted cheese that quickly fused back together as it cooled. difficult and embarrassing to eat. the fried calamari was just eh, and didn't come with any sort of dipping sauce. we waited a long while for our entrees, even having to refuse a server not once but twice when the wrong food was delivered to our table. when our entrees did finally arrive, we only got two of them. then we waited. and waited. and waited. our server stopped by and didn't even acknowledge that a) we were waiting a long time in general and b) that we had been waiting at least 5 minutes for our other two entrees to show up. when they did arrive, we were all underwhelmed with what we ordered. none of the flavors popped, and everything was just so-so. needless to say that when we left the restaurant at 7:40 (already late for our event...), we'd only received apps and entrees. our server offered to wrap our dessert to go but, considering how late we were, and that none of us were going to be home for a good 4 - 5 hours, we declined. no adjustment was made to our bill, and no manager ever came to our table to check in or apologize. i will be steering clear of this place from now on. this dinner was just the right thing to turn me off on coming here ever again in the future.

First and last time going to this place. Should've checked the reviews before I even considered eating here. It was just a disappointment of less-than-average Mexican food.

Best margaritas I've ever had!!!!! The selection was insane! My roller derby team happened to be staying across the street in the hotel and were so lucky to have found this place. The food was awesome too. The guacamole was scrumptious. I will be going back again whenever I visit Worcester.

This is no longer the great restaurant on shrewsberry st. It went from an awesome place for drinks and good food with great service to a family friendly place with sub-par everything. The service was bad, the food wasn't anything special anymore and there were kids running around. Not the great tequila bar I remember.

Service was terrible very understaffed and not service oriented at all. Food is good Management clearly does not do a good job planning. Big event at DCU center and not staffed to handle?

Went there for a date night recently. It was my first time there and we won't be back. The service was horrible and the food was no better. It's an overpriced under serviced restaurant in a less than desirable location.

The food is still delicious but I miss the intimate atmosphere of the old location. I just hope the larger location and need now for more staff doesn't take away from the great place it is.

No good. I like that they have pacifico and good tequila but their food does not taste like anything. If your looking for good mexican I would try something else.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
