If you don't know of any good restaurants or bars in Upton, it's because there aren't any. EXCEPT for the Rose Garden. This place has everything you need from a comfortable bar setup (with a pool table, KENO, and jukebox!) and plenty of space for family and group dining. I used to come to the Rose Garden for their juicy burgers and dirty martinis, but now I also come for their brick oven pizza. What a great addition to their menu, the BBQ chicken is my favorite. As far as french fry choices, they pretty much have them all. Curly, hand-cut, or home made chips. I've tried them all and they're all delicious. And there's plenty of beers on tap to pair with your appetizers or dinner. Bottom line is this place is perfect for any type of diining or drinking out experience that you're looking to have. All you have to do is pull up a seat and make it happen.

Things change over time, in this case not for the better. The chef from the time period when I wrote my original review is long gone and so is my enthusiasm for the Rose Garden. Perhaps they are the same and my expectations have changed? Either way, we now have a gap. When go there now, I find that it feels like a great place if you are seeking central mass town-y culture at high volumes. I am not, so perhaps I should just avoid central mass towns. Food = meh Beer selection = meh (Sam's and the typical InBev mix) Service = Hit or Miss, but not consistent enough to call it good. Atmosphere = (see above) I think we some time apart. I would like try other restaurants. Don't worry, you have no local competition; you'll be fine.

Want to like this place as I spend a lot of time in the area but just can't. I get there at normal dinner time but they always run out of what I want on their small menu. Last time I got under cooked scallops and that was the final nail in the coffin.

I was at an event across the street at the VFW hall and stopped in here for something, anything to eat. To my surprise, I had one of the best burgers of my life, the sundried tomato avocado bacon onion burger. Do I need to say any more? Oh. Yes I do. The bowl of creamy home made clam chowder. Our server was cracking jokes with us and provided excellent service and split our party's check with a smile. What a gem tucked into this part of Mass!

Food is ok.. menu decent. I cant stand going into a restaurant and seeing the crappy ketchup served with my fries.. If you cant buck up to pay for Heinz ketchup what are you skimping on in the back of the house???.. Come on! If you are looking to save a penny- charge me the 10 cents for a decent condiment.

Went once and had the nastiest burger of my life. I'm intrigued by the positive reviews so maybe I'll try again someday...once the memory fades. I think they also closed early that night, like 8:30pm on a Saturday. That's just sad.

We really like this place. Having just moved from Boston to Grafton, we are finding the dining out pickings slim...limited to take out pizza and chinese. When we stumbled into the Rose Garden, we were happy to find a pleasant watering hole, but the real coup is the food. I was stunned at how tasty the food is -- I would disagree with the reviewer who pegged it "greasy pub fare" -- it is really, really good comfort food. I have tried alot of the dishes -- from the grilled cheese to the cobb salad to the grilled chicken dinner, while the BF is stuck on the jalapeno burger. The food is consitently good and the creamy clam chowder really rocks. We eat there several times a week and are never disappointed.

Great little bar. Happened to be there for Open Mike on a Thursday. 9 beers on draft, seafood specials. Had the chowder, which was good. Date had the fried chicken and homemade fries- both were excellent. Keno, live music, reasonable prices, good food- we'll be back.

I found my way here on accident on my way to Milford. It's just the kind of place you simply don't find around Greater Boston. One big room, some tables, mostly bar business. One pool table dead center and a guy playing guitar. Beer was cheap the the buffalo wings were decent. I'm not ready to drive 40 minutes to go there but a pleasant little dive

The Pizza is GREAT! It is an excellent local alternative to the "Pizza House pizza" you typically get in any town. The crust is well cooked and the topping options, while limited, are perfect! The menu is not on their website yet but you can't go wrong with a cheese or pepperoni pizza!

I really like this place....except for the steep staircase going upstairs.....everything I've gotten here has been very good....the service has always been good too!

I just had a horrible experience at this place. We sat for 25 minutes and never got acknowledgement from staff. No AC- so it felt like a sauna inside. My friend went to bar to try to get someone's attention but they failed to give her the time of day. I could easily go on and on but all you need to know is this place really bad. You get treated like a complete outsider- 4 of 6 from our party were from the area. It lacks everything you hope from a good time out. No food- drinks- atmosphere- or ladies. From the menu try the "Avoid this place." And from that bar I recommend the "Stay away, stay far away"

The Rose Garden is a townie pub. Anyone who says otherwise is probably a townie. Now don't get me wrong, Im not saying I don't like the RG, Ive been there plenty of times, shooting pool, watching the Red Sox, getting absolutly fucking SHATTERED. Let's just say the place has an expiration date on it and I think I may have hit mine. The folks have moved out of Upton, so my chances/reasons to head to the RG for a bite to eat and way too much rum seem to be few and far between now, but it may still happen. The food is small kitchen, greasy pub fare, the booze used to be strong as a bear, but thanks to those fancy digital pourers, things have slowed down.

This place is small i went there to watch a band over the weekend and it's just not set up for that sorta thing they were moveing out tables and chairs to make room for the band REALLY !@#$%^^ it was pretty much standing room only which sucks when you want to sit down and eat drink and watch the band ! the staff cleared our plates and took the table we were sitting at !!!!! the food is so-so i got a burger there that was half cooked once .I've experienced better places for sure i thought the staff was rude as well I would not go there again

Don't waste your time. No service. Only had 2 bartenders and no wait staff. Place looks like a dump. I don't mind dive bars but this is not one. It is a filthy dump with no service.

Really the only place to eat in the area. The food has always been good when I went there and the service was always good as well. Since there really are no other places to go, you have to eat here if your as hungry as I have been. Decent bar food, the pizzas always have looked good as well.

45 minutes for clam chowder on special...which I doubt they were making by hand. Over an hour for the entire meal to arrive, we ended up taking it home. By far the worst chicken parm I have ever experience and stale french fries..how are the fries stale on a Friday night? Will not return.

This review is for the pizza, not the bar itself. Ordered 2 large pizzas to go that took almost twice as long as estimated (okay I understand Friday nights are busy) but the real issue was the pizzas were absolutely swimming in grease. Yuck! They both had to be mopped up before they could be eaten. I should have taken them back! Will not go back to rose garden for the pizza.

I liked it here. The bartender is really nice. It has Keno, BLT's, hand cut fries, and beer. I am good. Will go again.
