I can see why this might be an overall 3.5 star rating, but hear me out--this little thai hut is great! Having lived in both a city with fantastic thai food (Seattle) and a city that has barely any (Providence), I think that thai hut is delicious!! My three go-to items for this place: PAD THAI (a MUST--eat the pad thai pipping hot and just savor all that perfection), Basil Fried Rice (They give quite a large portion for take out, and I keep telling myself not to finish it, but end up finishing it anyway) and Thai Iced Tea (So amazing that you NEED to order this if you ever stop by the place, definitely on the sweet side but if you have a sweet tooth like mine and enjoy thick tea, this will be sooooo good) I have yet to explore more of the menu. I mention those three because I have tried other noodle dishes and was disappointed (their Pad Woon Sen in particular was bland and not up to par with the quality of Pad Thai) Regardless, this place gets a five star from me, because well one dollar sign ($) and the food is legit good!

This place is pretty small with about 2 tables so it might take a while to get seated. I got the pad Thai which was pretty good. This place is also a BYOB restaurant so we were able to bring in our own wines and store them in the fridge there. Everything is pretty cheap and the portions are pretty big so you will definitely leave here full.

This is your standard Thai restaurant. Nothing amazing about it but it also doesn't disappoint. I had the shrimp drunken noodles which were good and the vegetable dumplings which were good but the sauce that went with it could have been improved. Good spot if you're looking for Thai food in this area so I would recommend checking it out if you're craving Thai. Overall: doesn't disappoint, good if you want Thai in this area

Ordered the peanut sauce dinner and specifically asked for it to be very mild. It was incredibly spicy and inedible. Had to throw out the entire dish. Also wasn't credited for the order, even though I called and complained. Very disappointed and will not order again- I definitely wouldn't recommend paying for this place.

First off - delivery was lightning fast. I ordered and doorbell rang in under 15 min. 5 stars for delivery. However, the food itself was average which is why I gave 3 stars. The Pad Thai had a bit too much sweetness and fish sauce. The Tom Yum soup was missing that punch of tanginess. The flavors were there but in the wrong proportions. This was my first time ordering and I don't think it'll be my last. Willing to try a few more dishes.

Attentive and friendly service. Byob is a plus. Great prices! Food was delicious. Not greasy. Incredibly flavorful. Very busy but quick service. Go here.

My husband and I had a great dinner. We had the veggie tempura which included mushrooms, broccoli, sweet potato, onion, zucchini, and green beans. It came with a really flavorful peanut sauce. We also had the yellow curry and spicy crispy chicken served family style. We had enough left over for tomorrow too. The service was great and we enjoyed the music. The dining room is small so if you plan to eat in, you should come early. We will eat there again.

I was pretty disappointed. Got the chicken masaman curry. There was very little chicken, the potatoes were not fully cooked, and the curry sauce was a little watery. The price was decent and the staff were friendly, but wasn't impressed with the food.

Overall the food was good, very flavorful and just-the-right-spice. Ordered delivery through Foodler: estimated time was 50 minutes but they arrived after 1 hour 40 minutes *Bangkok Wings: friend reported them "over-cooked" *Sweet & Sour Fish: friend reported it not too flavorful and "okay" *Yellow Curry with Scallops: yummy, just the right flavor, good n' spicy (would order again) *Veggie Tempura: a bit soggy, probably had been sitting while putting together late order, but sauce with it was delicious *Sticky Rice: average Con: had to call after more than 50 minutes to ask about the status (they kindly said they were unexpectedly busy) Pro: driver was extremely kind too!

Ordered the sumari, chive dumplings, and pad thai last weekend, everything was drenched in oil, did not taste fresh at all. I wouldn't recommend.

Basically Exactly what you expect from a Thai Food place! Its a small little hut that is offered mostly through its takeout option but they do have a few tables available. I ordered the Basil Fried Rice with a spiciness of 2. The basil fried rice i must say was a smaller portion but i did only pay like $8 for it. What i was expecting from a Thai place is its flavor. That is exactly what i got. The fried rice had much flavor a long with some extra vegetables stir in it Overall it was very good and tasty! I wouldn't mind coming back here again!

This is that rarity in the Boston area: very good food at very good prices! And Thai food to boot, which is usually a bit overpriced compared to say, Vietnamese. The dining space is tiny, just 3 tables, so if you want to be sure of getting a seat you will need to call in for a reservation. But that's part of the quaint charm of this place, really...very cozy and pleasant inside. The actual food is not spectacular, but with generous portions and excellent prices, you can't really complain. The older lady who works here is a bit gruff compared to the young girl(s) who sometimes fill in for her. Service is not super fast, but the food gets to you in a reasonable time frame. I always get their "Drunken noodles" but their other dishes are good too, including some (gasp!) allegedly Vietnamese dishes. The fried noodles are a little on the oily side but nice and spicy, not dumbed down blandified tourist food. All in all, only wish Somerville had more gems like this one...too many Yuppy traps springing up around here!

Ordered the Chai Ya Noodle with Chicken to go. It was very good, especially for the price. Highly recommended.

Great food and fast service. The charm of this place is that it's a hole in the wall and churns out terrific, flavorful dishes. My go-to dishes are the vegetable tofu pad thai and pad see ew.

This is a very nice little place that offers decent Thai food. I've been here for a couple of times since I moved to the neighborhood, and been happy with it. The owner and servers were always fast. Most people orders delivery/takeout so it's quite easy to get a table if you wanna eat in (I think it's faster if you sit in and eat there). The menu is quite extensive, with most things you would wanna order at a Thai restaurant. I tried a few kinds of curry and all were pretty good. My friend said the papaya salad is below par though. In general, I like this place. Nothing fancy but good enough for me to keep going back when I'm lazy and wanna a quick dinner near home.

Have only ever ordered delivery, but we LOVE it. In fact, we had to cut ourselves off because we were ordering it at least once a week. I love the red curry. And the green curry. The pad thai is great. Love how many peanuts they give you. All the ingredients in the sauteed dishes are very fresh. The spice all around is pretty mild. If you like it really spicy, specify. Delivery is fast.

I found it! This is officially my go-to-restaurant for takeout thai food!!! I ordered the pad see you with crispy chicken and the chicken satay with peanut sauce. They were both delicious and the portions were fairly generous! I ended up saving a bunch to eat as leftovers... Score! I also want to note that the delivery person was really nice and friendly when he dropped off the food.

Ugh. We tried this place tonight for the first time. Not again. Delivery was an hour later than they quoted (half hour; didn't arrive for 90 minutes). The final bill before tip came in $6 higher than the menu prices but there's no mention of a delivery fee on their site or menu. The Pad Thai was dry, had hardly any egg in it, and a bunch of weird veggies (mushrooms?!). The Masaman Curry had white potatoes instead of sweet potatoes, and the sauce was overly creamy but without a lot of flavor and no heat. The Tofu Emerald was ok: steamed veggies, fried tofu, and a container of peanut sauce on the side. Bummed. I think we're going back to Lemon Thai.

It's a good take out Thai place, unlike other restaurant have raw bean Sprouts in their pad Thai, their bean Sprouts are well cooked which I like it better. Good cheap take out if you are in a hurry! July 28, 08 Update: We ordered delivery. They charged $22 for total $17 dishes. We assume they charged us $5 delivery fee without telling us. and they are only 3 minutes driving distance from where I live.We end up giving them more cause we didn't know they charged us for delivery. Big Turn off. By the way, they never give you folks, knife, chopsticks and napkin if you don't ask them to.

I really wanted to like this place b/c it's cheap, but the Singapore noodles I got were only so-so--greasy and not half as flavorful as at Tamarind House. Good-sized portion, but still a portion of meh.

wow, thai hut has improved SO MUCH since the old owners. i ordered from here a few times back in 2006 or so and the food was horrible - greasy, not very vegetarian friendly, and not very flavorful. the new thai hut is the total opposite! first of all, the prices are really reasonable. (my favorite local thai place for delivery remains tom yum koong but i would say thai hut is definitely in second place, especially given that they are less expensive than TYK.) second, the vegetables in my food were very fresh and really delicious. huge chunks of chiles, peppers, tofu..YUM. my husband loved his noodle dish (drunken noodle), which was equally fresh & tasty. i'd definitely recommend this place for delivery.

The food here has gotten better, and you can now get brown rice. Plus they allow you to order online, which I'm always a fan of.

Yes try this place it's pretty good. What I really enjoy when I go out to eat is the service. If your honest, sometimes if a place has great service and average food, you would still come back because you are valued. "I work hard fo da monies", so I like to spend on places that appreciate our business. This place has above average Thai, I had the drunken noodles, tofu coconut milk curry, and for dessert had the fried banana and ice cream, with honey. Very well prepared, fast and attentive service always deserve recognition, and the dessert was really, really good. I've been here three times and plan yo come some more, but always full of custy's! Try it you'll enjoy.

We tried to eat in - we ordered and then sat down at a table. However, it didn't really seem like you were supposed to stay; they gave us our food in to-go boxes. So we put it in a bag and went home, considering that I live two blocks away. The food (I got a nameless chicken dish) was completely uninspired; in fact, I prefer the stuff from the food trucks. I would go so far as to say that the pad thai was disgusting. Everything was actually fairly expensive considering the quality - I paid $10 here versus $4 for a superior meal from a food truck. Stay away.

  • Layla P.

I love this place! I love calling on my way home, ordering take out and picking it up 10 minutes later. It's about $10 but it definitely can be considered 2 meals. I especially love the masaman curry with chicken but they also have good vegetarian options. As others have said, no they don't have brown rice, but come on, it's a hole in the wall thai place, and have you been to thailand? brown rice is not authentic, so just deal with some unhealthy white rice, you know it's good. You can also eat there, they have a few small tables and the service is good, everyone is so cute and nice. Oh and they have these really good little thai candies!

Wavering between 3 and 4 stars, really - it's not exactly outstanding but it's a relatively solid thai place. I guess I've been spoiled by the quality thai I've found in the Bay Area. Its rating is also bolstered by the fact that it's literally two blocks from my apartment, and is relatively inexpensive. I ordered the tom yum soup with vegetables, a thai iced tea, and pork pad see ew (which they call pad see yew, but whatever). I specifically asked for the tom yum to be "thai" spicy, and it was - the broth was delightfully spiced and flavorful, but the vegetables were too big - we're talking whole pea pods, green beans, quarter-heads of broccoli here, all in a relatively small cup of soup (not to mention bamboo shoots that were inedible and a large chunk of ginger root). Next time I won't skimp the extra dollar and get it with shrimp instead of vegetarian. The iced tea came already mixed, which I guess was nice. The straw covering had been partly torn off leaving only the top, which had been oragami'd into a really amazing little flower - I complimented the woman serving me and she replied with a smile, "Give it to your girlfriend!" The pad see ew was delicious, though also suffered from oversized-vegetable syndrome. Between the tea, the soup, and the noodles, there was more than enough left to take home for a late lunch/breakfast the next day. The place is decorated quite nicely, and the women who run the place are adorable, but I get the feeling this is very much a "call in and pick up" or delivery place. I was the only customer there on a thursday night around 6ish. Still, probably worth your time, and as quick thai food goes it's not bad.

Pleasantly surprised I must say. I heart Thai food with a passion, and have had yellow curry all over the place, and Thai hut could stand up to the challenge. Not to mention the fact that it is exactly 1.5 blocks from my house and nicely inexpensive. Huzzah. The spring rolls were good, I would pass on the chicken satay next time. My friend gobbled her pad thai with shrimp, from the look on her face I'd say she liked it. Great value, good food.

This place is great. I didn't go here for years, because it just looked....kinda junky, I think the big yellow sign was a turn off. Great food though, the old woman that I've always seen in there is so nice. I've gotten vegetarian dishes that have all been delicious. Only four tables there but usually one (or all) is/are free.

I'm not Thai, but I love Thai food so much that I once wanted to marry a Thai prince just so I could have their food everyday! I've tried all the Top 10 Thai places in Boston and liked most of them but this one made me totally commit. I was on my way to the golf range one day when I drove by this place and saw the huge yellow sign. Even though the exterior wasn't too intriguing, it said "authentic" so I thought I'd give it a shot and ordered Basil Fried Rice to go on my way back home. OMFGGGGGGGGGg it was SOOO good. Like it was authentic good. I went to Thailand last year with my friends so I've tried authentic Thai food. And this place was as close as you can get in Boston. I later took my sister and she got hooked. I ordered a bunch of stuff to be delivered when I had some friends over and they loved it. Funny thing was, when my parents were visiting we went to a whole lotta nice places, famous places, touristy places, etc and one day my dad wanted to have Thai food. I brought them here with a bottle of our own wine (this place is BYOB- they provide wine glasses for you) and my dad, who is the world's pickiest and annoyingly hard-to-please gourmet, said it was "good." You can tell he doesn't throw out much compliments. His definition of "good'" is the same as my "OMFGGG it was SOOOO good." So I'm not sure what kind of food the people here who gave bad reviews ordered but everyone around me including myself love this place! I guess you could say that the pad see ew is a bit on the salty side but besides that, all other dishes are awesomely delicious!

This is one of my happy neighborhood places, along with Tacos Lupita and O'Sullivan's. Thai Hut recently did some re-decoration, including three four-top tables, and since we live nearby, we drop in for dinner. I'm a real fan of their salads, and of their Bee Bong (noodle salad, but in the noodle section of the menu). Fresh! And the papaya salad is decent, which is a lot more than you can say for a lot of places that shall remain nameless in this neck of the woods.... And know that the folks there are really, really nice. Btw, I've noticed that the reviewers who *don't* like Thai Hut tend to complain about what I think of as sauteed-plus-sauce dishes, so you might want to factor that into your plans. And the person who said you get your food in take-out containers? Maybe in 2006, but not now (June 2008).

The Thai Hut is great. We discovered it one night when it was about 10:05 pm. We went in, not realizing they close at 10, and were pleasantly surprised that the owner happily served us. She remembers my order (I'm one of those boring people who always get the same thing) even when I haven't been in for months, and the food is consistently good.

  • Phil D.

Everything tastes the same, but if you really, really love coconut milk, you're in luck because that's what everything tastes like. It used to be not as bad, but has REALLY gone downhill lately. The portions are now miniscule.

You can make better thai food with freeze dried noodles out of a box. Seriously - walk that extra block down to Johnny's and get one of the just-add-water meals and you'll have done yourself a favor. Our friend came over and brought his takeout from the Thai Hut. His pad thai was just noodles with a few spring onions or some greenery chucked in. There may have been specks of meat or peanut, maybe a beansprout or two, but if there were we didn't see them. On the day we moved into our apartment (and before we unpacked our silverware) we ordered delivery. I specified that I wanted a vegetarian tofu dish twice. I also asked for utensils. When the guy came I asked if they had given us utensils and the he assured me he had. We opened the containers and guess what! Two chicken dishes with noodles that managed to be greasy AND form a solid mass at the same time and no utensils. When we went to the restaurant to settle the matter, I let my super friendly, midwestern boyfriend do the talking. The lady was less than nice and started lecturing us for wasting food and telling us she had grown up poor and hungry. Sorry lady, I told you I was a vegetarian repeatedly and you're not going to guilt me into eating your nasty chicken! The delivery driver was super grouchy and started yelling at us that he wasn't going to give back the $4 tip we gave him for driving around the block and lying to us! We'll never be back.

One of my favorite thai places in town, especially for lunch. This certainly isn't gourmet, but it's tasty and reliable. I usually get the Pad thai (spicey) and haven't been disappointed. The staff is always exceedingly friendly and there's something quaint about the size and decor of the place.

    (4)
  • Kevin A.

Is there really any need to review this place? Do not hesitate for a single second if you have even a fleeting interest in Thai food. This is not your average storefront Thai place -- everything seems to have three times as many flavor levels as normal Thai food. The coconut chicken soup makes my heart skip a beat. And now that they have combos, the options are even greater. Extremely friendly staff, make you feel like you're the person that came in to save the place just before they were about to decide to close forever. mmmmmm

    (5)
  • Andres M.

Not bad, not great, just average. I don't even know if they have tables, it is mostly take-out. I liked their mango siam, I didn't like their pad thai.

  • Anonymous P.

    Not so good Thai.

  • Ben S.

I live a block away and just tried this place for the first time. Dine-in service is no-frills but actually quaint and very very friendly. The food is tasty and has the freshness of home cooking. While some of the prices seem high, the portions are very generous!

    (5)
  • Rally P.

A small takeout place, I used to live a block away and get food a lot, mostly because I was so lazy. In the two years I lived there, I found the food getting worse and worse, the servings getting smaller and smaller. Just recently went back after not eating anything from there for a couple of years and was again very disappointed. Even for a cheap takeout place, I find it lacking.

    (1)
  • Jeannie C.

Fresh, fresh, fresh. I've never had a disappointing meal. This strictly to go restaurant serves up some of the best curries anywhere. Generous portions and affordable prices.

    (4)
  • Annalise K.

This restaurant has recently been through a big change - the inside is done up like an actual sit-down restaurant now and the food is remarkably better. I'd even say it rivals fancier MonThien a few blocks away. I've had excellent curries and noodle dishes here. It has become a new favorite.

My preferred Thai take out restaurant. The brown soyed noodles are very filling and the crazy noodles are crazy spicy with thai basil.

  • Kelsey R.

My husband and I order from here so frequently (both take-out and dine-in) that the staff all know us, smile when we walk in, and will remark if we haven't dined-in in a long time. We LOVE this place. It's tiny, it's quaint, the food is delicious, and everything is reasonably priced. We have our order down to a science: crispy rolls, curry with chicken (we rotate between green, red, and yellow), brown rice, drunken noodle with tofu, and a Thai iced tea (for me; I'm addicted to this stuff). Occasionally we'll swap out one of the dishes for the basil fried rice, which is also awesome. This is our go-to restaurant when we don't want to cook. Try them out!!

  • Abe K.

Their drunken noodle is so on point (5/5) but their pad thai is alright (3.5/5). Overall, I enjoyed my meal.

I'm conflicted writing this review, because their food is absolutely wonderful and never fails to be wonderful. I've tried a lot of dishes here and they're all extremely satisfying. However, one thing I noticed about Thai hut is that they will regularly nickel and dime you, charging you slightly more for something, or excluding something small from your order. It's difficult to catch too because their receipts are not itemized. I have brought it up to them when I can and they've corrected it when I do, but the behavior continues, so often to the point that I don't believe it's just honest mistakes anymore. For this reason I have decided to stop coming here, despite their honestly excellent food. Sorry Thai Hut, but poor ethics are a dealbreaker.

Terrible service. Ordered through Grub hub. The email confirmation had the incorrect address. In an attempt to fix it the restaurant continued to hang up on me AND the grub hub rep. Some woman answers the phone and just keeps hanging up

Good Food served with a smile! Thai Hut is on the way to work and on the way home for me so after a month of walking pass them, I decided to give them a try. I ordered some take out and the Server sat me down and gave me a glass of water while I wait even though I was just doing take-out. I was surprised by the hospitality and when the food finally came, a big smile was given as they handed the food to me. I normally don't get smiles from far classier and expensive places when I'm eating out, much less a smile when I'm just doing take out. I've also ordered delivery once and even their delivery guy smiled at me. As you can probably tell, courteousness is huge for me and they delivered it in spades. That said, as for the food, it's exactly as what you'd imagine Thai food to be like. I like Thai food so to me it's great, but compared to other Thai restaurants, it's just ok.

    (5)
  • Andrea M.

I have been only two times to this places: it is delicious. I just can't stop smiling after having their food. I have had the broccoli with pork and the lunch combo of eggplant, spring roll and soup. Vegetables are fresh and not overcooked, they are actually crunchy and very tasty. Love their food. Both times I have eaten in the place, although is small is a comfy place.

Went for lunch with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. It's very small on the inside, so seating was a bit of an issue. Nevertheless, it was well worth any hassle. The red curry was awesome! And the lunch deals all come with soup and other various plate items. If you're looking for something different... I'd say give this place a try! Great flavor/spice in the food.

Having lived for a little while in Thailand, this is the best Thai food in the area. ALSO they put on a surprise birthday celebration for a friend, without us even asking! Friendliest waitstaff ever.

    (5)
  • Michael S.

Great little Thai place with decent food and genuine Thai staff (they speak Thai and are able to take orders in Thai). The food is decent, slightly americanized dishes (not 100% legit food as in Thailand), the combos are a great deal at only 9$. Very friendly staff, eat in possible as well at this clean place.

  • Fine G.

Fantastic! Given that i am a pretty good cook myself, I am, usually, a very picky eater when it comes to dining out. In this case, however, i was impressed by the freshness of ingredients, generous portions, succulent flavors, and amazingly fast service (they took and put together the order of 5 dishes in 15 minutes, and even added an extra free soup as a bonus.) Mango curry is especially beyond delicious, as well as the fish appetizers.

We ordered on Grubhub tonight. Our delivery came 45 minutes after it was supposed to. The food was cold and congealed and they forgot our rice. Everything was under-seasoned and bland. This was our first time ordering from this place and it will be our last.

    (1)
  • Craig S.

The food is just okay. The people who run it are very nice, but the only reason I ever order food here is because it's two block from my home. There are Thai places that have much better food, but they're less convenient, so there you go.

    (2)
  • Stephon M.

I put in a order for delivery and was told 45 minutes. Actually it took an hour and a half. I had the chicken pad thai and some wings. The wings were delicious and the sauce provided was really good too. The pad thai was OK nothing special. It had a bit of a zingy flavor too it which was different. It was not as flavorful as i had hoped. Also there was a delivery charge that they didnt mention.

Thai Hut has a variety of authentic Thai dishes ranging from Thai curry to Pad Thai. The Massamund Curry was unbelievable thanks to the high quality ingredients and spices. The dish was flavorful, warm, and satisfying. If your looking for an American twist on a true Bangkok food cart favorite, try the Thai Hut Chicken.

Disappointing! A small place that I thought would present inspired That food. Pad thai was very greasy and spring rolls soggy.

We drove by this place more times than we can count but finally got around to ordering. The food was really fresh and a great value. The soup seemed like homemade, and everything had just the right amount of flavor and spice. Definitely ordering from here again. You should too.

Visiting a friend in Somerville and we decided to order take out. Had some Pad Thai, Wild Boar Basil, Pork Masaman, Scallion Pancake and Chicken Curry. Food was great - I have to say the Scallion Pancake is exceptionally good.

Really very excellent. I eat a lot of Thai, and some places are amazing, and some aren't up to par. When discriminating between good and ban, few dishes are as indicative as 1) fresh spring rolls 2) massaman curry & 3) their preparation of Pad Thai. Very good all around, and plenty for leftovers. I enjoyed the folks there too, real nice and actually from Thailand! Great food, and very thrilled to eat there again.

  • Miriam K.

Drunken noodle from this place is delicious; basil fried rice is also really good. They're always fast and accurate. The sauce that comes with their scallion pancake is amazing. The vegetable dumplings I got once and will never get again as they didn't have much flavor. Edit: I haven't gotten food from here in a while. Stopped because Sweet Ginger was closer and better. I love love vegetables and my biggest problem with Thai Hut was when I was only getting cabbage and peppers as vegetables with all my dishes. Now I go to Sweet Ginger for all my Thai food needs.

I always drive by this place but never stopped to try it out. Now that I have moved closer to thai hut and was unsatisfy with pho n rice with their food and price, I decided to try thai hut. Everyone that work there were so sweet. I can hear my food being made and the food was excellent, the price was just right too. I will be coming back here again.

You like Thai? Or never had Thai? GO NO FURTHER! Crab rangoon is better than anything around. It's even better than Ginger Exchange's. Tom Kar soup is heaven in a bowl. I could eat it every day. Fresh rolls are also the best around though the peanut sauce is only about a B+. Ginger Exchange has a special peanut sauce that you have to ask for specifically which is the very best sauce but Ginger Exchange's fresh rolls are packed with rice noodles and not as much veggies. In an ideal world, I'd take the fresh roll with lots of veggies like at Thai Hut and Ginger Exchange's special-request peanut sauce. The curries are also great! That is to say, the flavor is delicious and the potatoes are cooked to al dente. Some people like super soft potatoes but I don't so this is great for me. The Thai Tea is great, though just down the street the Biscuit Cafe serves a mean Thai Tea too which isn't quite as sweet so I actually prefer that one if I had to choose. The ladies that work the table are sweethearts. Recently they've also had my favorite Whole Foods soap, the citrus flavor foamy stuff. ***Even the soap is good!***

I ordered delivery and it was great. It came super quickly, and the portions were massive. I got the yellow curry with tofu; the tofu was perfectly fried, it came with lots of veggies, it arrived hot, and it was really flavorful and spicy. My only complaint was that the curry came with big chunks of potato, which I didn't expect in thai. The chunks were too big to absorb the flavor of the curry.

Food was alright, decent portions! However, I ordered delivery and I had to reheat everything I ordered at least once because it was not hot by the time it got to me.

I was bowled over by this place. Tastes like the best of the Thai food I had in Thailand, where I have traveled pretty extensively. It is like teleporting going to that place, it smells and is decorated just like the little restaurants in Thailand run by Thai families, reverent pictures of the king, happy Buddhas and all. I had the lunch special with red curry. It came with a soup, the curry, some rice (they subbed brown for me, which gets them extra points that they didn't even need), a spring roll and a veggie dumpling (they brought a crab rangoon which, sadly, I couldn't eat because I don't eat crab), and a little clementine for dessert. The curry was hot and flavorful, the soup fragrant and refreshing, the whole thing was just perfection. I will be back here a million times.

Service was great. Very attentive - they refilled our water frequently. The green curry was great. Macadamia beef wasn't spicy, even though the menu says it is. Place is cute. Ok prices. I wish they warned us that the brown rice was an additional charge. Will be back.

Thai Hut is delicious, cheap, and my new go-to when I'm too burned out to cook. You can't go wrong here. And you can order straight from Yelp, with only a minor ($2) delivery fee. Word. They clearly have their spiciness index calibrated for wussy New Englanders, though. Medium is actually pretty mild. The peanut sauce is baller.

Thai Hut is among the best restaurants I've tried since I moved to the area. I usually get delivery, and they are super fast, though I don't live too far away (just under a mile). The prices are great, and the food is just superb. The people who work there are very nice. Though I haven't eaten inside, I've picked up there and walked by. It's very small inside, with seating for around 12 max, but it doesn't seem to be busy when I go by. Still, delivery isn't a bad option because they are so quick. They do tofu really well, and I recommend the pad see ew and udon noodles with tofu, as well as the veggie dumplings and scallion pancake.

Ordered the food and got it on time, however they not only gave me the wrong soda, but they also did not add the shrimp to the pad thai rice that I clearly asked to be added (knowing it would be an additional cost). Not only did they mess this order up, but when I contacted EAT24 to help me out with this issue, she had to call them more than once and they told her that they didn't have the drink we ordered (why wouldn't they just call us and tell us?), and that it would be at least another hour before they could bring the correct food to us! The eat24 support asked for the manager and the women on the phone insisted that she talk to her. I tried calling about the order myself and as I explained the situation the women insisted on talking over me saying that the shrimp was not free (even though i told her i understood that) every time I attempted to explain, and eventually she hung up on me. I will not be ordering from this place again.

Yes, as its name, it is a very tiny restaurant with 3 tables if I remember well. I tried their beef & shrimp pai thai and as others told, so delicious and can be the No.1 Thai food of my experience. But I only tried Pai thai since it's easy for take out. Imaging sitting inside with so tiny room makes me kind of reluctant. The price is relatively cheap for around 10 bucks for pai thai. But actually I think the first time's Pai thai was bigger in size then the second one I had. Not sure about the reason.

I love this restaurant. It is my neighborhood favorite, and I eat there often. The food is always delicious. The prices are reasonable. The service is prompt, polite, discreet, and nice. The tiny interior is kept cozy and warm in the winter with extra heaters. Their take out is good, too, and a lot more people come through to pick up takeout than the few tables could accommodate.

  • Allisoto P.

The food is good. The staff is really nice. It's BYOB. Enough said, right? Plus their catering is really affordable. I often use them for catering student group dinners on campus because their prices are very reasonable, the staff is extremely nice, and it's really easy to get delicious vegan and vegetarian options.

  • Thomas Z.

This place is great; right from the kooky/super pleasant lady who runs the front desk to their awesome selection and quality of the food. Their pad thai is really delicious and definitely worth trying as is the panang curry. Whether you're getting it delivered or picking up, the food is always made really quickly. And just when you thought this place was all about their great food, they go ahead and make your dining in experience BYOB. Bottom line: If you're looking for Thai in Somerville/Cambridge, dining in or out, Thai Hut is the place.

I been going to this place for years now.. luv the staff. Their food is always good and have more veggies in them (i am vegetarian).. like rice dish would have good amount of veggies compared to places around. Their sticky rice with mango are the best around !

  • Theodore W.

I usually order the Pho noodle soup or one of the rice and vegetable entrees. They are always top notch and have a lot of interesting flavors. The outside is deceiving so much so that it took me about 8 months before I thought I would give them a try. I wished I hadn't waited so long! I've only ordered take out and delivery. So this review is for the food and not the dining experience.

My favorite Thai in Boston/Cambridge area. I moved out of Cambridge to the Boston area a few years ago, but I always have cravings for Thai Hut and go back whenever I can! I've tried the Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, various curry dishes, and have loved them all. All my friends have loved their food too when we come here to eat. The restaurant has some really neat chairs that I like, and the place itself is small but cozy and clean. The staff has also always been courteous and friendly! (Mmmm, just writing this review is making me crave some Thai Hut!)

  • Ashleigh P.

I love Thai Hut so much, it hurts. One thing I've always loved about it is that they have so many dishes that I have tried to (unsuccessfully) find at other Thai restaurants, even in Thai-dominated neighborhoods, such as Woodside in Queens, NY. I constantly crave things like the Chai Ya noodles or the CRISPY pad thai. I have never been disappointed with anything from the menu, and even my picky-about-quality-and-things-like-that father really loved Thai Hut, so that has to say a lot. The place IS super-tiny, but it is BYOB, and the woman who is ALWAYS at the register is also super-nice.

Yummy and good prices and really nice owners and staff. The pho, pad thai and curries are all excellent. Gets a little cold in winter with the draft blowing in from outside, though. They do a good takeout biz.

Awesome lunch special! I didn't expect all that would come on the cute little platter, all for $8.95! This is one of those places I had driven by so many times, then thought to finally try. The outside isn't anything special. I've learned to look past that stuff and I keep finding hidden gems. I decided to go with the crazy noodles (drunken noodles) with a spring roll and satay. Along with that I was given some tasty soup and fresh cut melon. The crazy noodles were great. I love to get them at Thai restaurants then compare. These were up there. Spicy, not dry, generous chicken, lots of basil and peppers. A large amount considering other stuff was included. Mmm. The satay was also great. It had a curry tasting coating on it. Then the spring roll was satisfying. On the side there were 2 good dipping sauces. The fruit at the end was the perfect touch. The older gentleman took care of bringing me water and bringing my food over. He stood by to see if I needed anything while I ate. After I was almost done, the cook came from the back and asked me how everything was. What a nice touch. It was a warm family run place. The food tasted very authentic, not that I've been to Thailand but it did not taste like washed out Americanized Thai I've had at other places. The flavors of everything were great. The place is small with about 4 other small tables. I will be back to try more!

Ive had a few great meals at Thai Hut. I love their lunch specials and find the price for what you get is hard to beat. Don't go into the restaurant expecting a fine dining experience. There are only three or four tables and most people seem to order to go. But the food is great! After just having traveled to thailand a few months ago I found the food to be very authentic and equally as tasty as many of the great meals I had there.

When I lived in the neighborhood, I ordered from, and dined at Thai Hut frequently. In my experience, they were always accommodating, and would make your dish however you wished (I love it spicy). You couldn't ask for a friendlier bunch. The menu is standard, and has all of the classics. Unlike another reviewer, I never noticed a difference in quality between dine-in and delivery. Always great in my book. It's a small joint, with less than 10 tables if memory serves. When dining in, you are typically served by the person working the telephone. Despite this, the service was always prompt and friendly. Thai Hut is delicious and great bang for your buck. When you look up soul food in Jeff's dictionary, Thai Hut gets an honorable mention. Note: I'm not normally a fan of rice dishes, but there is something divine about Thai Hut's pineapple fried-rice. Out-of-this-world.

Thai hut is a good place to grab some take out. It's reasonably priced and very fast (never more than 20 minutes, even on weekends). Their lunch specials are a steal (so much food and really cheap). I love that they actually make their food spicy ---not just white man spicy, but oh wow my esophagus just disintegrated, but I kind of like it spicy. The "Chai Ya Noodle" and "Drunken Noodle" are phenomenal. I've ordered "country style pad thai" (not on their menu) and they made it anyways. The woman who works the register is a sweetheart as well :) Also, not ideal for groups because it can only seat 8 people max.

Considering I live a two minute walk from Thai Hut, I visit A LOT. The food isn't amazing, but it's pretty tasty and I would consider it relatively authentic. It's a small and unassuming establishment that most people walk past without noticing or fearing due to the tiny size, but it's a great place for a nice meal. There are only a few tables, but the people who work there are nice. If you want to sit down and eat, go on a Friday night. There's a young girl who only works there Friday evenings. She's really sweet, she will remember you, and is really great with her service. She's also observant, will pick up immediately on your dining tastes, and if you are receptive, she'll suggest other items on the menu. I usually eat vegetarian, and my usual is Vegetable Pad Thai and Vegetable Steamed Dumplings - she noticed I ordered this a couple times and suggested the Spicy Papaya Salad on the menu. I've only ordered this dish in the States once, and it was terrible. I ate it a lot during my time in China, and nothing compared, but Thai Hut's does. For my usual order, I spent $14, but it lasts me two days (or a meal and a midnight snack...), which I think is really reasonable for the portions and quality. I usually carry out my food, but eating in is a real treat; the in house Pad Thai is arguably better.

We had the weekend lunch specials and BYOB. The food is pretty good, the prices are AWESOME, and the beer is CHEAP (bc it's from the grocery store). A winner in my book.

For such a small place, it's surprisingly good. They're mostly take-out, but they don't neglect their dine-in service, and they've put a lot of effort into decorating the place. I went and had beef pad Thai and tom yum soup and Thai iced tea, and it was all very good.

among all thai restaurants i've been to, this place is darn cute. the thai auntie takes order, serves food, and buses tables. and the thai guy (presumably her husband) delivers food. i think that's just cute. we went with thai isarn (northeastern food) meal when we were there. papaya salad with fermented crabs larb pork thai sausage sticky rice (these are considered salad and appetizers in the us, but they are main dishes in thailand) everything was delicious. i ordered everything extra spicy so it was spicy and awesome. everyone should try papaya salad with fermented crabs. it is not on the menu, so you have to ask for it. the crab totally changed the flavor and the color of the sauce. highly recommended!

Do you know how hard it is to find good Pad Thai from a place that will deliver in Somerville? And what if you want Crab Rangoons to boot? Thai Hut! I don't think they have seating in the restaurant but that's not really the point. Next time it's too cold to leave your personal villa, and you are afraid that the chemicals in the special garlic sauce from Papa Gino's is going to give you renal failure, they got you covered.

Thai Hut is right across the street from our apartment. The food is amazing for a great price... certainly the best value for money! Try the Siam duck and vegetable tempura and you will not be disappointed.

Ok, so I've only had two things here: the papaya salad and the pad thai. Both of which are ok. The papaya salad is spicy and comes with peanuts, tomatoes, green papaya, and lettuce. The sauce has a good kick, but if you are afraid of spice, then you may want to steer away. The delivery service is questionable. The delivery person confused my address multiple times even though it was fairly simple and I clarified so many times before she actually found my place.

their lunch deal is great with lots of side items like a spring roll and soup. my favorite dishes are winter shrimp and pad jay. all their curries are tasty and they use good quality jazzmin rice

Small, cozy family owned restaurant. The people are very nice and make you feel at home. The food is authentic and the best Thai food I've had yet. You also get a good portion for the price.

Cute little place. Food was decent. I'd go again because it's close to my place not because the food was amazing. The massaman curry was alright, I've had better. The crab rangoons leave much to be desired. The scallion pancakes are to DIE for.

Don't let the lame sign fool you; this place is really tasty. There is limited seating in the restaurant, but the food is certainly worth it. My friend and I stumbled in here on a cold winter's day and ordered up a veritable feast. The Pad See You was really excellent and the service was fast and friendly. It's BYOB, which is great since the Wine & Cheese Cask is right down the street. We picked up some Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale and had a truly enjoyable meal. And if it's too cold for you to make it there, they deliver! Don't sleep on this place, folks.

Oh my god, I never would have come here if I'd read the reviews first (and damn, am I glad I didn't!) Not only is the food relatively authentic (according to friends who've actually been to Thailand!) but the service is totally sweet. I went for a friend's birthday, and we basically took up all of the tables - which were set beautifully when we arrived. They corked our bottles for us (BYO and no corkage fee, awesome), and even hooked up the birthday girl with a beautiful cake (which was made elsewhere, but beautiful and super-reasonably priced). For the record, I tasted their green curry, yellow curry, red curry (with a variety of meats, including duck), drunken noodles, Penang vegetables, Tom Yum (best in town) soup, and pad thai. All were excellent, especially the soup and pad thai.

  • Clare J.

Not outstanding food but friendly, prompt service. Run by a very sweet family. I only ever get the pad thai- could use more flavor in it, or the fried tofu triangles- which are $5 and chewy golden delicious. More than once we've arrived as they were closing and that nice woman would smile and serve us anyway. (Yes, i tipped her!) Fewer than 10 tables, good for a casual, cheap bite with a friend.

I waffled a bit between three and four stars for this review. I've been here a few times, and the entrees are pretty good, but not awesome. You also aren't exactly guaranteed to get what you order - I asked for pineapple fried rice and got the pineapple fried rice as described on the menu... but without any pineapple. Go figure. You get a lot of food for the price, and it was pretty tasty, so I didn't complain. For an app I had "Tom Khal" soup, which was great. I don't know why it was called "Tom Khal", as it was just tom kha gai. Anyway, this is one of my favorite foods ever, and it's hard to do poorly because it's fairly simple (I make pretty good tom kha gai at home). Still, their soup was the real deal, with chunks of galangal and fresh lemongrass, and even a legit kaffir lime leaf floating on top. Service is very quick and will probably not speak good English. The lady who brought us our food insisted on filling our water glasses just before we left, even when we told her that we didn't need, which was kind of funny. There is an amazing story on the back of the menu about how Thai food kicks ass at using spices, make sure to read it. There are only 10-12 seats in here, at three tables. I've only been here later at night (in between 9 and 10) and have never had a problem getting a table, but it might be tricky if you want to eat in during typical dinner hours.

I looove everything from Thai Hut's understated restaurant decor to the melon hard candies you get with your check. The first time I tried Thai Hut I was on my way to a hot tubbing session with my beau. It was early spring and frigid outside and in (space heaters took care of some portions of the restaurant). I'd stick to take-out while its chilly outside, but the waitress/hostess/do-all lady that works there is too friendly to not come and meet. We got vegetable soup and dumplings for dinner in preparation for sometimes overwhelming and dehydrating experience that is hot tubbing. The soup was so flavorful and the dumplings so delicious and perfectly filling. The soup has tons of veggies cooked al dente and is on the salty side (not too salty, just tons of flavor). Thai food is my favorite for dinning out, so I've been to most of the Thai restaurants in Somerville, Cambridge, and Boston. Thai Hut is at the low end of the cost spectrum, but don't let its very modesty fool you. When it comes to flavor its a contender with the high end Thai restaurants. Just some notes: The portions are huge. The brown rice is cooked to perfection and is not too grainy even if you don't normally go for brown rice. The curries have tons of sauce. The food is spicy, and you may want to watch out for spicy dishes if you can't handle a lot of heat. I'm a vegetarian so I haven't tried a good portion of the menu. Warning: I've never ordered anything that came too spicey, but my roommate got drunked noodles a few weeks ago. I tried some of them and can attest that it is true. Even though the dish is not listed as spicey on the menu, it was waay to spicy for us to eat. I like a lot of heat in my food, and I'd even go so far to say that food isn't worth eating unless it hurts, but it was inedible how hot hot hot the noodles were.

I would give less than one star if I could! The food is good, but the customer service is horrific! We got shorted food and the people on the phone argued with me! I would avoid this restaurant based on this!

You know what? I think this place blows. I lived next door to Thai Hut during my college days and they disappointed me numerous times. It was our running joke in the building that Thai Hut sucked, but it was some kind of sick pleasure to try and order from them repeated times in hopes that it would improve. Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, the appetizers, they are all mediocre at best. Everything I ever ordered was bland and very greasy. It doesn't come cheap either, don't let that unassuming exterior fool you. On a weird side note, one day Thai Hut moved around all the seats in their store and hung up some cheap paper lights. They then proceeded to put up a grand re-opening sign outside and invite about 50 friends and family to take pictures. To my knowledge, the store never changed hands and the crappy service and food I hated still remained. Thai Hut will get the job done in a pinch during a snow storm, but if you have the ability to seek out better restaurants, by all means do.

I've been back to Thai Hut many times since my last review and I'm ready to declare my love for its pad thai. I think it's the best in the area (and if you disagree, I'd like to know who YOU think does it better). ps. I judge pad thai by taste, not authenticity. pps. the dine-in version is much better than the take-out version.

Really good authentic thai food! Took my thai friend there and had this extremely spicy noodles that we have only been able to find here. Been here so many times and I will keep coming back! Theres plenty of street parking and if there is no seating, take out has been a good second!

  • Nathan F.

I went to Thai Hut this evening with some companions and definetly enjoyed my meal. Everything tasted very freshly cooked and not too greasy. My sister ordered a Ladna dish that had great brocolli. My spicy basil was actually spicy and their tofu is perfect. It's pretty much the same menu as every other Thai place but from what I ordered they seem to have the basics down. Portions and price were fair but not enormous (Chinese restaurant style). There is very little seating so don't plan on bringing a large party or even being guaranteed a table. This 'Hut' can get crowded when people come in for take-out so its not an intimate setting either. I thought the service was above average and friendly. And one final note: BYOB! That seals the deal.

  • Kelly G.

I think people are writing reviews of the Thai Hut without considering what it is. The Thai Hut is a take-out thai place-- no tables, no real attempt at authenticity. It's like McThai Food. And for what it is, it's great. If you want Thai in a pinch, Thai delivery that's quick-- call the Thai Hut. I love the massaman curry and they make it with pineapple because I ask them to. It's around the corner from my house-- and the delivery driver who has only delivered to me three times in the past year remembers me every time and continues the conversation as we left it off. It's odd, but that's fine.

I just got back from the Thia Hut. I have driven past this place forever and I'll be honest, never had any desire to try it. I have a hard time when disappointed by Thai food, which is what kept me away from here. I almost feel as though I should have continued past here and had my supper elsewhere. I got fresh spring rolls with tofu. They were really tasty, and on the large size as well. I got an order of chicken pad thai as well. 15 minutes later my order was ready to take-away. The bag was hella light - I guess not a bad thing, cause I hate the feeling after a heavy meal... I got home and was ready to chow down. The spring rolls were good, but there was a sauce that looked like pad thai sauce that usually comes in take out, and the peanut bits for the top. I opened the pad thai - it had leaked sauce all over the bag, and already had peanuts on it? What was the point of the extras? The noodles were fried - I may have known that upon ordering, but I didn't think much of it. I should have thought about that a bit deeper - these were like the size of a shoelace and weren't so much fried, as tough and saturated in some kind of grease. So sad. I was really hoping to be amazed. It's so close to my home, but not so close to my heart. On the upside they are BYOB.

Yesterday, I had a plan. I wanted Pad Thai and fireworks and patriotism and I wouldn't settle for less because by God this is AMERICA. Now, I don't know if you've heard the saying "the best laid plans of mice of men" but if you were at the fireworks (Kendall Square) yesterday, and saw a girl in a sailor dress RUNNING back and forth between the MIT bathrooms, the Porta Potties, and the Marriot... then you saw ME and you saw the outcome of my DELIGHTFUL MEAL at Thai Hut. Here's the saddest part: MY PAD THAI WAS GOOD. MY FRIENDS' MEALS WERE GOOD (Masaman Curry and Drunken Chicken)... I WANTED TO DIE IN PUBLIC FOR TWO HOURS. The end.

Great food, great service, great company. What more could someone ask for? Star-tastic. We went to Thai Hut for a graduation dinner for which the owner had decorated the restaurant with graduation balloons and things of the sort. The owner did this at her own cost. She served us with a smile. The food was delicious, especially the duck AND the fresh chili sauce I asked for. Yum. Five star yum.

It's good when you dont want to go far for thai but not good compared to most thai food. the soups are quite bad actually. The pad thai is good. The pad see ew is so-so. The mango+sticky rice is pretty bland.

I had a head cold and a craving for pho, so I finally took a gamble on Thai Hut. I ordered spring rolls, tom yum, pho, and thai iced tea. The order arrived about 10 minutes ahead of Foodler ETA and everything was delicious, refreshingly large portions for a competitively low price. (The spring rolls and/or pho disagreed with me a little, but I also pounded them on an empty stomach with a creamy caffeinated tea.) They sent sweet vinegar instead of peanut sauce with the spring rolls, but that worked as well. I ate the flavorful tom yum the following day (without incident) and wished I'd ordered two. Will definitely try them again.
