I am here to set the record straight about this place and rescue it from inept reviewers. I am terribly discerning when it comes to restaurants and this place impressed me in every way. Beyond reproach. Cavatellis are perfection. Great and professional service. Bravissimo!

Open disclosure that I haven't been to Adriatic in about a year. But that's significant since I live 50-feet from their entrance and eat out often. None of my half-dozen experiences there were bad. Mostly I'm unsure of their identity. Seems like they're going for Mediterranean fine dining yet their best food item is pizza. And they put up signs encouraging people to come have a few beers and watch sporting events. Huh? I'd love to see them tweak the concept. Ditch the white tablecloths and do Mediterranean tapas paired with wines-by-the-glass and craft beers. That way they can expand the pizza/flatbread offerings without contradicting a fine dining image and let more people taste a smaller portion of the now-pricy entrees. They have a great central location, so it becomes the perfect place to meet people for a bite or full meal. Anyway, my dining experiences weren't memorably good or bad. Here's hoping they make it into the kind of place where people go regularly vs. continuing with Mediterranean fine dining (if such a category exists).

We held our rehearsal dinner at Adriatic in July of 2015 and had a wonderful experience. The room for private parties is a great size and Vini was so easy to communicate with leading up to the event. The food was delicious and we had a choice of 5 different entrees. The waitstaff was also very attentive and people are still talking about how great the appetizers were. Highly recommend Adriatic for private parties!

Excellent- truly delicious and fresh Med fare in a nice corner space with plenty of al fresco seating. The menu definitely leans toward the sea, no surprise given the name, and everything we had that was del mar was killer: we went tapas style with the scallops, grilled calamari and the littlenecks, all fresh, light and flavorful. Terrestrially, the zuchini flowers were expertly fried in a light tempura batter and then stuffed with herbed goat cheese that was perfectly melty and salty to the sweet batter and zuchini. Delish. We got the grilled meatballs with tzaziki, they were okay but were pretty dry and a bit bland, I'd pass on them. In the summer months, the large patio is on a perfect intersection for people watching and the food lends itself to warmth. Another welcome find in the Salem dining scene that I'm really starting to dig into.

Very disappointed in this restaurant. Never actually got a chance to eat here. Called while I was on the train from Boston to see what time they were open until. Was told they close at 10:00. Went on our tour and rushed back to the restaurant at 9:00 only to find the doors locked and people still sitting inside.

Hands down the best bolognese I've ever devoured. Unlike most restaurants these days they are not afraid of sodium. The meal with homemade pasta was perfectly balanced. With 15 foot sliding doors that open to the quaint Salem streets and friendly staff we certainly will be back.

So good!!! The caprese salad was amazing and the pizza was awesome! Absolutely loved the setting too, so good!

Friends of ours ate here last year and loved it so we went there today for lunch. Salem is of course packed so we waited an hour for our table but we expected that. The host was great! Our waiter greeted us and served us water then disappeared for 20 minutes. Now we weren't expecting quick service but that's a really long time to wait to order. The food took another hour to arrive and when it did the pizza was cold and the crust was soggy. I ordered a Greek salad with my pizza. Instead of dressing they drizzle plain olive oil on. The grilled chicken was delicious though. We all also agreed that the pizza sauce was awesome even if it was cold. Salem was packed today so we would have given them all the benefit of the doubt except... I ordered a cappuccino because our friends said it was the best around and the waiter's response was "that's too messy they aren't going to bother with that!". I felt shamed for ordering a cappuccino! I say if you aren't offering the full menu... Let the guests know. If guests are going to wait an hour to get in, an hour for food that is cold... the least you could do is bring a cappuccino or not have a lousy attitude and act put off by the order. Our friends were embarrassed and I doubt any of us will be back due to the service we received. I only tipped 15% which requires a really rude server.

Shrimp appetizer was sooooo delicious! Small portion but overall great! My friend and I walked in 10 minutes before closing and they served us our food quickly! I will definitely come again! Great music too! Thanks!

I've been here three times now. The first in October around when they first opened and I only had a salad that was delicious. The second the summer of 2012 when my sister sat outside and ate. I remember another salad that had arugula, watermelon and feta. I also remember lamb pops. Both of those times food was excellent/service was good. The third time last night was amazing. We had wonderful service by a waiter with a lovely accent. He even told us he knew exactly what were going to order when we ordered it. We started with the grilled meatballs in yogurt sauce. Delicious. i got the sea bass which came with clams and mussels in a red sauce. Everything was delicious. My bf had the veal which he enjoyed, though his portion was a bit small. The best part was the bread which are like bread sticks with oregano and other Mediterranean spices. The waiter offered to bring us more bread to dip in the sauce of my dish which was tempting, but I was full. I had a glass of tempranillo to drink and the bf had a lemon basil martini which was a little too summery for January.

Somewhat disappointing experience after having heard so many positive things about this place. I'm assuming my food would have been good had it been warm, however out server had been too busy conversing with another table for a solid 7 minutes before checking to see if it was ready. I should add that the rest of the people at my table already had their food. Additionally, our server refused to serve a glass of wine with another guests dinner (rudely insisting that another variety would be better) and then proceeded to forget to bring the wine he recommended. Not a solid experience at all. I only gave it two stars because everyone else's food seemed alright.

Adriatic is a fabulous restaurant and event space! I have high expectations when it comes to food and cocktails and Adriatic surpasses them every time I visit. The food is artistically presented and full of flavor; the menu offers a nice variety to suit every persons palette. The service staff are always friendly, inviting and attentive, yet not intrusive - a very delicate balance not easy to achieve. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable, yet elegant and tasteful....in the Summer you can enjoy alfresco dining on the gorgeous brick sidewalk or you can sit inside the dining room where the floor to ceiling windows open to the patio. The patio glows from of beautiful, nautical-style lanterns, so fitting for the North Shore. In the Winter, you still have the look of the gorgeous lanterns and twinkling lights from the trees around the city sparkling through the windows. Vini (the Owner) is a class-act. He always greets his guests and treats each and every person like family. I recently reached out to him to plan a special birthday party for 18-people. He was not only very responsive, he sent me an incredible pre-fixe menu based on the special details I requested. The planning was so easy and the party was a huge success thanks to Vini and his wonderful waitstaff (Sarah and Alex) and kitchen team! I would recommend Adriatic to anyone dining for a romantic evening or even a super-fun group planning a nice event for a larger group!

I suggest to get the pizza, because this place has very very very small portions. Maybe two or three bites...and then it's over.I was just disappointed by how small everything was. Afterwards we were all still very hungry and didn't feel satisfied in our meals. We ended up getting a second dinner! Besides the portions; the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, though they did forget a couple of things we asked for on the side. It wasn't an awful experience, but I will not be coming back.

Mixed experiences here, but our last visit was a winner. We saw some friends here, as we always do, and one of our trusted pals was enjoying the octopus appetizer. She commanded me to get it! And when she speaks, obviously I listen. I'm glad I did. That app was wonderful in every way. I could not have been happier. I ordered another app, which was the cheese stuffed peppers and that was my meal. Very good overall. My companions all were very happy with their food, too. I don't remember what everyone got--just the happy faces. But there was an eggplant parm special involved. Delicious, and so much it was impossible to finish. The bottle of wine we got was very good, and in all my visits here I notice that the staff is always very upbeat and seem happy to be there. That says something.

We contacted the Adriatic about having a 12-person rehearsal dinner in their private dining room. The owner promptly responded and offered the room to us without a fee because it was a weeknight. We had eaten there before and knew we liked the food, and their quick response and fee-free private room made us reserve with them over a few other places we considered. The night we had there was spectacular. When we arrived, the owner himself came in, shook our hands, and congratulated us. Everyone who came loved the food, and our Italian-born and raised guest is still telling us how much she loved the food almost two months later. The servers were great and they let us have as much time as we needed to have a wonderful and memorable pre-wedding dinner!

Met friends for dinner and drinks. Bartender is fun and attentive. Drinks are made well. I've yet to order a wine id have again. Service is still good. Food is still supremely subpar.

Every experience has been better and better here. The food is amazing, the staff is great and the vibe is good. I got the eggplant Parmesan and my boyfriend got the fillet and we ate it all, seriously...nothing left! Coming from a guy who loves his steak, he said that it was one of the best he's ever had. We go here frequently, love that it's just a walk away, will be back again soon!

One star isn't even what I want to give to this place. It's not as to the staff...it's as to the OWNER! First and foremost the hostess and our waiter Alex were amazing, friendly and understanding. Ordered a couple of appetizers, saw the Zucchini Blossoms on the menu...so exciting haven't had those in a while. My sister use to make them frequently. However, to find out for $11.95 you only get 2 blossoms and 5 zucchini sticks (which it does not specify the zucchini sticks ... just stuff zucchini blossoms. We sent the dish back after noticing there was only two. However, the rest of the meal was excellent. When the check came to us, the owner (a male) approached our table to ask if we had a problem. My sister tells him the story about the blossoms, that we weren't paying for those, his first response was...well did you ask how many? Would you ask how many shrimps are in a dish? I was mortified! He was speak to my sister (A PAYING CUSTOMER) as she doesn't know what she is talking about and that he credited us $1.50 for the left over zucchini sticks! Really!!! Telling us we don't know how much zucchini blossoms cost and they are very very expensive and he felt that $11.95 was a reasonable price for TWO ... I said it right TWO Zucchini Blossoms. He then proceeds to bitch slap my sister stating that we can turn around and watch the parade where his wife and children were. Seriously dude...don't take it out on your customers that you own this restaurant and you can't watch your family walk in the parade! To get to my point...the Zucchini Blossoms are $11.95 and this man credited us for $1.50 for the sticks! REALLY. What kind of business person are you? You are really going to suffer for for the $10.40 that you charged us for TWO zucchini blossoms. You treated not only my sister disrespectfully, but leaning onto the table right in front of myself and a dear friend. Totally unprofessional and I am sorry for your wife to have to read this review while she was doing a wonderful thing with the City of Salem. Obviously .. with the 2008 Amarone we were to order, when they only had 2009, we should have know that this wasn't going to turn out right! Fix your menu to reflect the correct items, update your wine list and most of all go get some therapy in customer service. You'll need it...or your business will go out of business!

Our second visit to this restaurant was not as good as the first. The food was outstanding. I had the Zucchini Blossom as an appetizer and a special for my entree: the Panko-encrusted Cod with fennel strips and orange segments. But, the service was lousy. Our waitress mumbled and spoke so quietly that we had to continually ask her to repeat herself. While reaching for a menu, she knocked my glass of wine, spilling at least a third of a cup of wine into my eyeglasses case. She did not apologize and she did not offer to replace the wine. She merely handed me a napkin so that I could clean up her spill. Not good.

We started with the BURRATA CAPRESE, it was so good, and light, and the strips of bread they bring to your table are perfectly seasoned and amazingly fresh. My husband had the VEAL SALTIMBOCCA and I got the MARGHERITA Pizza. We were really happy with the food and the service.

Wow. Are we talking about the same restaurant here? I ate at Adriatic today for the first time, based off of the reviews here. Holy bad idea, Batman. In need of some al fresco dining, pronto, after this hellish winter - in the bevvy of Salem dining options, we strolled into Adriatic because we like wine, we like outdoor dining, we like Mediterranean food. Sounds like a home run. Errrr....no. Starting off, we got the grilled meatball appetizer [paired with cucumber Greek yogurt, mint, and crostini]. It was underwhelming at best. The meatballs flavor and consistency reminded me of something you'd thaw out on your counter top. Bah. Well, there's still entrees. Oh God. More of the same drab, uninspiring, and FLAVORLESS drivel. I got the sausage cavetelli [which the waitress claimed was amazing] and my buddy got the lamb [which was flavorless and overcooked]. For the prices they charge [$17-25/plate], I expected to get maybe a pinch of salt and pepper to make the dish taste like the actual food we ordered. I didn't want to give this 1-star. I very rarely give 1-stars, unless it's a horrific experience. But I honestly couldn't think of a reason to give it any more. The food being the worst offender, the prices being public enemy #2, and the service was uninformed and blazeh. Not to mention, we sat across from a table of 8 clearly eligible bachelorettes whom were doing their best rendition of Sex & The City, but they were all way grosser. Methinks not. Good day.

WORST SERVICE EVER. Waited 15 min for our drinks (the waiter was rude, only asked half the table for drinks then walked away and came back 15min later for the rest of our orders). Didn't announce the specials, just said what do you want. Took an hour just for one appetizer to come up and it was cold, so we sent it back, and they microwaved the same dish (the plate was hot and it was the same food). We left before our meals got there (if they ever were going to get there). The food around us looked delicous except the service was embarrasing. I would never recommend this place.

  • Lincoln R.

Meh. This place wasn't as good as everyone has raved. I hate writing negative reviews- but unfortunately if a restaurant prides itself in its menu items obviously by the price of their menu items, then they need to be held to their own high standard. Maybe they had the second string In the kitchen, because overall I was not impressed with the food. The service was fine, nothing bad about that. I was with a small group and we ordered wine, appetizers, entrees and desserts. The desserts and table bread sticks were good. Everything else was not worth the expense. I had the special pasta dish with lobster and vodka sauce, if that's what you would call vodka sauce. It was soggy and not flavorful. The appetizers were super greasy and were NOT worth the expense. Save your money and go somewhere else.

It was my birthday and I decided on this restaurant through some Google and Yelp searches; we were the only table in there on a Monday night. The calamari appetizer was delicious, not chewy or rubbery like some places. I had high hopes for the entrees because they all sounded delicious and I had trouble picking just one. I ended up going with the salmon dish and my boyfriend decided on the clams with black pasta. My salmon was cooked perfectly, but the sauce that it came with (lemon and capers) was way too salty and had too much lemon juice. I had a hard time eating it but didn't want to complain. My boyfriend's clams were delicious, but the black pasta was chewy and bland.

Really love this Resteraunt ! I love right around the corner when and frequently ordering. Honestly I don't know who the chef is on the weekends but he really know what's he's doing if I can eat here every day I would.. I kinda did already lol ! Will recommend to anyone I know who's is in the area

Subpar food. This place acts like its a fancy restaurant, but everything we ordered was either bland or looked like it had sat under a heatlamp for a while. Prices were quite high given the quality of food. Service was also pretty slow. The entire meal took around 2 hours and the place wasn't that full. Plus the waitress forgot one of our dishes. Decor is nice though.

My date and I had the luxury of eating at Adriatic for the first time last night, and I would have to say that everything was just perfect. I had the Brodetto Del Adriatico, which was simply amazing. The type of dish I will have a craving for in the near future. Typically not a Salmon fan, I reluctantly tried my date's dish. I'm happy to say they turned my opinion of Salmon around, and we have now dubbed this "The Slammin Salmon". Our waitress was Sarah, who we will request when we return. As a former waitress I appreciate good service when I get it. She was on par with everything and couldn't have been more helpful. I look forward to another great meal here!

LOVE this place- can't say that enough! I've never had a bad meal here, whether it's been a full meal, or a casual drink at the bar. The service is friendly and attentive and the food is fantastic from start to finish! You can't go wrong going with any of the high quality pastas dishes... I've often gotten mushroom ravioli or some kind of seafood. They always have great specials too. Nice cocktail list and extensive wine selection as well. If you want a special meal at a place with hospitable, "come as you are" atmosphere (ie there's no attitude at this place) , you will not regret coming here!

I was under the impression that the sole purpose of "Restaurant Week" in Salem was to impress local customers into COMING BACK to a restaurant during non-restaurant week times. This was not the case with the Adriatic. My husband and I went here on a Thursday night for restaurant week. Our reservation was for 6:00. It took the server about 15 minutes to come over and take our drink order. This was forgivable but when we placed our food order it took over an HOUR to get our food!!!! When we said something to the waiter he quickly walked away while mumbling a "sorry" over his shoulder. Another reviewer said that the waiters at Adriatic were pretentious and rude and I would have to agree. When we told the server we were going to try the restaurant week menu he replied with a sarcastic, "of course." To start, I got the grilled endive with pear, balsamic and goat cheese. The endive tasted like burnt celery. For my main course I got the pumpkin ravioli. The ravioli was barely stuffed with pumpkin and it didn't come with a a sauce so it tasted dry. My husband got the stuffed eggplant to start which was delicious and the pork chop for his entree. Very good but not worth the wait AT ALL. When the waiter came over to take our plates he said, "So I can assume you enjoyed it?" and rushed off . Dessert was good. I will not be coming back to this restaurant or recommend it to others. I felt like this dining experience could have been saved if the Adriatic had decent waiters. If the establishment was truly sorry the waiter could have tried to remedy the situation by taking one of our dinners off our bill but we barely got an apology... Restaurant Week fail....

An amazing find in Salem! We had plans to check out another restaurant just down the block from Adriatic on an October Saturday, but they had a 30-40 minute wait. We decided to walk around, found Adriatic, and we are so happy we did! The only downside I can think of about Adriatic is that as far as I could tell, your only parking options are to park on the street or pick one of the lots that are a few blocks away. Other than that... we had a great experience! Our hostess and waitress were both very, very friendly. There were plenty of seats inside and out, and we sat outside so we could people-watch a bit. We were told the specials immediately and, for probably the first time ever, the waitress actually mentioned the prices of the specials herself! I've always found it so frustrating that most restaurants make you ask what the price is of the specials rather than just tell you during their speech about it. It's just a little thing, but I definitely noticed! We were served delicious bread and were shown a really vast wine list, though we stuck with water. We each got a special rather than what was on the menu - I got baked cod over grilled romaine with a vinaigrette, and my boyfriend got rotini and meatballs bolognese. We both devoured our meals happily! We got through our meal quickly, but we were never rushed. We enjoyed our meals and the pleasant atmosphere of Adriatic. Next time we're in Salem, we will definitely keep this place in mind!

This is a fabulous find in Salem! My girlfriend and I went here in July and ate outside under an umbrella. Although it is centrally located and near a busy street, the ambience is surprisingly quiet. The food is terrific! Argula salad was ultra fresh and spicy. The Greek Branzino (locally caught sea bass) was outstanding. Lobster cavatelli special was excellent. Service is very friendly and attentive. We had out puppy with us and waitstaff was very helpful in getting us a table on corner of patio. I went back a second time later to have the salmon, which was cooked to perfection. Love this place!

Adriatic is a great option when dining in Salem! I have been a few times for work events with my boyfriends company, and each time has been spectacular. Their staff is very, very good, they always are informed about what they are serving, and are attentive without being overbearing. The food is good, but only 4 stars good. I've had various entrees including lamb shank (awesome) and salmon (so-so). Their wine list is fantastic. Overall one of my top choices for dinner in town.

My husband and I discovered this restaurant on a very cold Friday night last winter. We have been fans ever since! We have brought friends here and recommend it to out of town guests. Food is always fantastic and the owner and head waiter always make a point to welcome us personally. This recent visit was a warm, busy Saturday night in October. We enjoyed yet another wonderful meal people watching in a lovely window table. The owner and our server kept checking on us and apologized if the food was a tad slow in coming. Seriously we were fine - what else would you except in Salem in October. We enjoyed yet another great meal. I highly recommend this restaurant any time of the year! They update the menu and I have tried most of it. Tiramisu was as good as Cafe Victoria in the north end!

Adriatic is one of the better places in Salem to go for fine dining. The first time I went there in 2011, the food was great, but a little high in price. Since then they seemed to have dropped prices. The pasta dishes I've had are excellent, and the flatbread is quite tasty as well. The service is very attentive and friendly. They are good at offering suggestions on wine and meals as well.

I think 3 stars pretty much sums up this place. The food is good, won't blow you away. The staff are all very inviting and friendly. The wine list was probably my favorite thing about this place. The drinks are good. I have been here for my buddy's wife's 30th, was decent for a group of about 20, they had a back room that sat us all comfortably. I would eat there again

Service is on point, never had a moment wondering "wheres our server?" Menu is to die for everything is house made. (Try the bruschetta). I was informed the chef is vegan and will cater to anyone in need of an alternative. The atmosphere at first seemed a little fussy but we were pleasantly surprised. Everything was appropriately priced. I have recommended this place to friends and they still thank me.

The Adriatic is a relative newcomer to Salem, and I've been interested in trying it since before it opened. I was finally able to do so, and had a great meal. Our server was extremely enthusiastic. Between Stacey, Daddy, and myself, we ordered a salad and the roasted cod, as unfortunately, none of us were super hungry. They had problems with the Peroni tap; Daddy ended up with a Sam Summer, which was strange because they still had it in October, when it should be Octoberfest on tap, and that this was his first time having Sam Summer. Well, that was success, but, really, how could it not be? I noticed a Temperanillo rioja on the menu, and being one of my favorite types of wine, ordered that, and it was quite good. Complimentary bread is soft and tasty. The fish was delicious - the cod was roasted with olives, potatoes, and some veggies, and was extremely flavorful. Portions size was good too, as I shared that with my father. I tried some of the goat cheese from Stacey's salad and it was fresh and creamy. I wish we had room for dessert but we did not. It is OK because I plan on coming back.

I would like to share my very positive Restaurant Week experience at Adriatic. We went on the second Monday of this past RW. I made a reservation for four, and when we arrived the place was moderately busy. I found our server to be polite but unobtrusive. There is a very limited beer draft selection but Adriatic does not strike me as a beer restaurant. My husband enjoyed his 'smashed pumpkin', which was shipyard and some sort of vanilla liquor. Kudos for trying out a beer cocktail with only three selections on draft. First course was eggplant pillows. Although it was only a couple of bites, the appetizer was flavorful and certainly served to get me ready for the main course! The Parpadelle with mushrooms and marscapone did not disappoint. My portion was more than sufficient, and my friend's pork chop entree was HUGE! Like 'lunch again tomorrow!' huge. This is definitely unusual for a Restaurant Week entree. Their tangy goat cheese cheesecake was just enough. The sharp bite of the cake matched with the bright sweetness of the candied orange rind really finished the meal nicely. All in all, well done.

Great environment but could have done without the music....although nice for a 50-60+ crowd. Pizza (did the salami flatbread) was absolutely outstanding. The pasta bolognese was yummy!! Pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce wasn't heavy. It was a quiet *hot* afternoon so we were the only ones there (sitting inside), which freaked my husband out at first but we walked away VERY full and quite pleased with our Yelp find. We'll definitely be back!

It appears to me The Adriatic is actually just impersonating so called "fine dining." The look is there, and some of the food is pretty good, but the fails are glaring and it did not live up to expectation, given how the restaurant presents itself. Walking in, I was pleased by the pretty and open look of the space and our waiter started off strong, charming and seemingly knowledgeable about the food. However the food was unpredictable. The scallop appetizer was delicious, with firm meaty scallops and a crisp sear. The prosciutto appetizer was just unremarkable and after having it at another restaurant a few days later, it paled in comparison. I had the veal scallopini and it was so tough as to be inedible. I ate a few bites and just decided I didn't want to chew that much for so little reward. On the plus side, my companion's Salmon was really well cooked but perhaps overly lemony and swimming in butter or oil. The biggest gaffe that sealed experience for me was when we ordered post dinner coffee and received 3 cups of cold, old coffee. Apparently they didn't anticipate anyone would order coffee after dinner and tried to serve us old unheated stuff. Yuk. They did make fresh coffee for us but it just seemed like a an error that could have been avoided. I am always looking for a nice place to bring my Mom in the Marblehead/Salem area when I visit but sadly this will not be a repeat.

Very well done. Great atmosphere. A variety of dinner specials for which i did try one and it was excellent. (Pork medallions with apples on top served over wedged/sliced potatoes with a blue cheese sauce over it all. Two thumbs up). The menu isnt overwhelming either like some othet places. All in all i would definitely recommend trying it out.

The owner saw this yelp review and was gracious enough to offer another dinner on him. We ordered the ginger-cucumber martini (EXCELLENT AGAIN) and a few more meat dishes. However, the food was still average....but the owner tried hard and the chef's shortcomings are not his fault. I would go there for the owner, if anything. He is gentle, generous, and even came to our table with a round of Limoncello shots like a true European. Kudos!

What a great find! I was there last night for my Mother's birthday dinner with my sister and neice Aimee. We had a fabulous dinner! Lindsey our waitress was exceptionally knowledgable and descriptive about the specials as well as all the dishes on the menu. Memorable: Ricotta-stuffed Zucchini Blossoms were to die for. Lightly tempura battered and crispy fried. They were delectable! The Tagliatelli pasta was perfect and the Shrimp and Lobster special was especially delicious. They also have quite a nice wine list. We had the CakeBread Chardonnay. Yummy! Nice outdoor seating area for warmer nights and a great upscale bar area that begs me to come back for a martini and a gourmet bar pizza. I'm dying to try the eggplant!

Head on over to the former Edgewater Cafe location on the corner of Front and Washington Streets, and experience the vast improvement that has come to that corner with Adriatic. Adriatic opened this past Monday, and as much as I'm loathe to try places that new, I'm glad to say that I found myself here on there first Friday night, and I can report that they've already hit their stride. The menu features antipasti, three salad choices, pasta courses, meat courses, and brick oven pizza. We had the Caesar salad, which my companion thought maybe needed a little more dressing, but she always thinks that. I had an arugula salad with oven roasted tomatoes, goat cheese, and balsamic. Very tasty. For dinner, we had tagliatelle with homemade bolognese, and veal saltimbocca, served with green beans and oven roasted red bliss potatoes. The veal was delicious, with just the right amount of breading and crispiness. The prosciutto was excellent, and it was topped with a smoked mozzarella cheese. The sage and lemon flavors complimented perfectly. The bolognese was rich, and managed to avoid the frequent problem of this dish being too salty. It was really perfect. After our meal we were offered complimentary slices of nutella pizza from their brick oven. So tasty my partner stole some of mine while I wasn't looking. She swears it was OK because she is pregnant. I think they haven't started serving a full dessert menu yet. It was a soft open, after all. Wine list was extensive, with a strong selection of varietals by the glass as well. I had a glass of excellent chianti classico. Service was excellent. One of the owners, who used to be the best server at nearby Bella Verona, waited on us. He was very attentive, and absolutely met all of our needs. Decor was extremely tasteful. Hardwood and tile floors. Natural stone on some of the walls, and granite on the brand new bar. If you visited the former restaurant in this space, you won't recognize it. The food, atmosphere, and service are all imensely better.

I live around the corner from here and they do a great job of presenting fresh and delicious food. The pizzas and salads are excellent (try the veal Scallopini, its off the hook!) The staff and owners are always pleasant and the space is done in total style. Its also a great spot to go for lunch and a special occasion.

The hostess was inflexible with seating, she said she had to stick to the chart. With just one of the many patio tables taken, it seemed silly and annoying to make us sit all the way in the back. We had a new waiter (GianMarc), who was very friendly and polite. He served us as if the restaurant qualified as fine dining (though, patio service was pretty slow, it was clear that people inside saw waiters more often). Food was better than average. And, though were were not in Salem long, the food is probably excellent for Salem, which seemed to have fewer good restaurants than one might expect. Ordered the fried zucchini blossoms, which we were told were served with fried zucchini sticks as well. One order = 2 fried blossoms, and 6-8 fried zucchini sticks. So, really, the blossoms are served with the sticks. Also, they were supposed to be stuffed with goat cheese, but they were stuffed with ricotta (I didn't taste any goat cheese at all). At $12, this was a bit of a rip-off. The manager does a good job answering questions/dealing with issues.

I find this place to be hit or miss. The first time that I went to the Adriatic it was around lunch time and I had gone with a bunch of folks from work. The place was very quiet and there were very few people. The service was killer. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and was able to answer any questions that we had for him. The food was outstanding. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was, hands down, the best that I have ever had. My entree was pretty simple, chicken and snow peas and was very good. My second trip in was in the evening several months later and it was PACKED. My friends and I were very out of place as the crowd was definitely much older. During this trip we were severely neglected by our waiter. I'm not sure if it was because we were a bunch of college kids and they just assumed that we were going to be punks or if they were just generally overwhelmed. Either way, we were in there for two hours and we only ordered an appetizer and entree. Overall: The food is amazing and they have an amazing wine selection. The service is spotty depending on the crowd. What you should know: They say "casual" dress. Casual to me means jeans. Apparently casual for the Adriatic is BUSINESS casual. Both times that I have gone in almost everyone is in business casual so you might want to skip the jeans to be on the safe side. Evenings get very busy (especially weekends) and it's not a huge restaurant so it can get loud and hot ... plan accordingly. Portion sizes are not huge so if you're looking to gorge yourself ... this is probably not the best pick.

Great atmosphere, friendly service and awesome wine selection. Best pork chops I've ever had and the swordfish was also amazing. They put a very unique touch on their food. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be going back soon!

Enjoyed a very nice birthday dinner with dear friends. The good: Service - attentive, accommodating, informative, genial. Really top-notch. Appetizers - zucchini blossoms and calamari were very nicely done. Fried, but lightly so. Entrees - arugula pizza: our friends have had it a number of times, and ordered it again. Savory, light, and well done. Special: whole wheat pasta with shrimp: tasty, with homemade pasta. The not-so-good: Frutti de mare - spaghetti was homemade, but sauce lackluster, and scallops were tired and squishy, lacking fresh flavor. Cast a shadow on the rest of the dish, which was altogether just OK. Papardelle with mushrooms: again, lackluster, save for the pasta. Dessert: very nice tiramisu and improvised BD cake from flatbread, Nutella and gelato. Flavors could be amped up, IMHO. Freshness counts as well, especially when talking seafood on the North Shore.

My husband and I plus 2 friends checked out the Adriatic Restaurant and Bar during Restaurant Week in Salem on April 3rd. Atmosphere: Curtains over the doorway help prevent drafts when the door opens. The bar area leads to the main dining area and the room is open, airy and has soft, pleasant lighting. The back wall of the restaurant is constructed from a pretty, gray stone, which gives the room a warm feeling. Our table for 4 was on the small side and felt a bit cramped once the meals arrived; things needed to be shuffled around quite a bit to accommodate the basket of bread plus the meals. Service: Our wait staff was unfriendly, bordering on pretentious. He checked in twice during the meal, asking "everything ok?" before moving off so quickly we didn't have the opportunity to answer. No mention of Restaurant Week or the prix fixe menu when we were looking over the menu; when we started ordering from the special selections his reaction was "oh you are here for Restaurant Week". No apology or explanation as to how things might work, which would have been helpful. Two different times during the meal he reached directly across my plate to serve the person to the left of me. I'd rate the service a C-. One bright spot was the server in charge of the water pitcher; our glasses were never more than 1/2 empty before he came to refill them. Food: To start with we ordered the arugula salad and the beet and goat cheese ravioli, both of which were excellent. I especially loved the ravioli, a true beet-lover's dream. The main courses were more of a mixed bag. I had the pork tenderloin served with roasted potatoes and a balsamic reduction, which was amazing. The pork was so tender I could cut it with a fork and the portion was just right- enough to feel full, but not so much it was impossible to finish. My husband had the risotto primavera, which was disappointingly bland. The veggies were crisp and fresh but there was a fishy taste to the risotto (which did contain shrimp) and it was fairly "blah" tasting. I've made better at home. For dessert I ordered the cannoli, which was delicious. Nice presentation with a drizzle of chocolate sauce and powdered sugar around the edge of the plate. Once again, my husband got the short end of the stick: the tiramisu he ordered was tiny. It could literally have been eaten in one large or 2 small bites- 1"x2". There was no garnish whatsoever on the plate so that the tiny dessert looked lost on the big white plate. It was as though they were running low on the tiramisu and figured they'd just give people small pieces. Next to my generous cannoli it looked like a joke. The taste was ok, but nothing spectacular. We were not offered coffee or after dinner drinks and were unable to flag down our waiter to order some. Price: Moderately expensive. Three course meals for restaurant week were $25. Our bill came to $150 for four people (meals and drinks, not including tip) I didn't feel that the meal was a good value and between the inconsistent food, poor service and small portions of dessert. I wouldn't bother to go back to give this place a second chance, there are plenty of Italian restaurants in the area with great food, better service and more reasonable prices.

Attended an employee party at the Adriatic and it was great! All the staff were welcoming and professional. Everyone was extremely hospitable, excellent service. Food was great! Lots of passed hors d'oeuvres, meatballs were my favorites! about 125 attendees for a standing reception - plenty of room for mingling with room to spare. Can't wait to go back for dinner!

My fiance and I have been looking at places in Salem for our rehearsal dinner. We stopped in at Adriatic today, and we think we've found our place! Both the owner and server were extremely friendly and informative. The wine selection is unbelievable, and the function room is just perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of lunch, from our first course (Caprese for me - very fresh, and Ceasar for him). I tried the Pasta e Fagioli, which was full of flavor, and my fiance ate every bit of his fettucini. The cheeses and pastas are made on-site, which makes a big difference. We cannot wait to host our event at Adriatic, and we will definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

Special = highest priced thing on the menu? Don't get me wrong, the Butternut squash ravioli were out of this world, but I feel a little taken advantage of when the price of the special is not given and it winds up being 10 dollars more than anything else on the menu. SHADY! Well I won't be back. It's a shame because the decor was nice, the food was good, but I don't know if it can compete with 62 on the wharf, right down the street.

We've been walking by this place for months, wondering when it would open. Finally last week we stopped in for dinner. We sat outside because it was nice out, but wow, did they do a nice job renovating the Edgewater. Our server was excellent. He was very nice and helpful (and easy on the eyes, ha). However, there was very big mixup with our bill, hence the 2 stars. First the food though. We got complimentary foccacia bread with olive oil to start, and it was yummy. I ordered the zucchini blossoms and the octopus appetizer. Both were good, but I don't know if I would order them again. The blossoms plate only had 2 actual stuffed blossoms and the rest was just zucchini sticks. It did say on the menu it would be a mix, but I was hoping for more of the flowers. The octopus was very tasty, but the plate was mostly gigante beans, and 3 small pieces of octopus. The octopus was pretty charred too. I like my food that way, but I could see someone else complaining about it. The tiny salad that came on the plate was also tasty. My boyfriend got the eggplant and olive pizza (disclaimer, i asked him not to order the sausage one so I could try a slice. i think i should have just let him get what he wanted!). it was very bland. the middle was soggy and the eggplant was cubed and not that good. The olives were excellent though. So after all this, we split the bill, a little unevenly because I ordered beer and he did not. We do this almost every time we go out without any issues. We get our cards back, and he was billed $14 and I was billed the entire bill, $41. So we talked to the waiter (after sitting around for 15 minutes or so waiting for him to come back out), and he apologized and went to fix it. He came back with the correct amount on my card and explained both charges might show up but the $41 one would be taken off. So come this week, we checked our bank statements. I was billed only once, for $14.50. My boyfriend was billed THREE times. Once for $13 something, once for $14 and once for $32. what is going on?? This really turns me off to going back there again. Oh we did also get free biscotti at the end of our meal, that was excellent.

Good food, nice looking place & very slow service, at least for us. I guess the Risotto was screwed up in the kitchen (one of the cooks was ill, we were told), & they redid it without ever telling us. We waited 30 mins from the salad course to the main dinner without our expectations being managed. Seemed like it took forever and we got aggravated with the long wait. The food was pretty good, but our annoyance with the wait was the topic of conversation. We asked for the manager and he did not come right away, a bit of surprise on a slow night with 1/2 the tables empty. When the owner/manager finally arrived, he did not handle the situation all that well. He was both sympathetic and at times, defensive (Rosotto takes 20 minutes to cook if you want something good). He did little to find a way to make us happy. Nothing was offered. Too many other good choices in Salem, we are unlikely to go back.

I just realized (after some research) that traditional Milanese is just fried food with no sauce. So I guess I can't fault them on that, but still, I'm leaving my rating as a 1 because even if it was a traditional Chicken Milanese it still didn't have much flavor and the side "salad" was not good quality at all.

My husband Rick and I went here on a whim on our 21st anniversary. I know you're probably thinking we're archaic, but we're not! We ate at the bar on this Thursday night, met a really nice couple sitting across from us (the bar has a unique V shape). The service was excellent! We started with the zucchini blossoms which were perfect, you could almost have them as a desert. Perfectly light and crispy and plenty for two people (each having 1). Our salad and entrees were all delicious, flavorful and timely. The rehab of this spot was done very nicely, the menu is interesting and reasonably priced, the wine list is fabulous and the crowd was a nice mix of young and old, trendy and traditional. I can't wait to go again! So nice to have the "North End" right in Salem!

My first visit here was with my family as a party of six. Our waiter was very helpful and accommodated our party by offering to do a mix of appetizers, which was a great idea. We had stuff fried zucchini blossoms, calamari, antipasto, and some of the best prosciutto I've had in a while. Dinner for me was a white fish steamed with tomatoes and thinly-sliced potatoes wrapped in parchment. The flavor was amazing... I ate every bite. And then... dessert time. Again, our waiter offered to do an assortment of dessert, and I was in heaven. I had a bite (or maybe a few) each of creme brulee, cannoli, chocolate torta, and tiramisu. The only dessert that wasn't stellar was the tiramisu... it didn't have as much flavor as the others. The service was a bit slow, but that might have been due to the fact that they were preparing almost every dish on the menu for us... that said, the pace felt a bit off throughout the night. For what they lacked in timing, they made up for in tasty food and ambiance.

**disclaimer- As of 8/16/10 when I visited the Adriatic, they were still having their soft opening. This should be considered when reading any review written around this time or before! Went here the other night and first and foremost the staff is incredible. The owner came out to talk to us a few times and our server was super friendly and informative. There weren't a ton of vegetarian options and I got the Margherita pizza. (I know-snore) BUT it was an AWESOME margherita pizza. I was totally happy with it. My husband got a scallop risotto thing and he went totally nuts for it as well. The owner said they are still working on their dessert menu but they gave us a complimentary dessert which was a piece of fig bread and two biscottis. Both were good! He seemed to honestly want to know our opinions on them which I totally dig. It's a little pricey (12 dollars for my pizza wasn't bad but there are many items upwards of 20 dollars including my husbands meal which was $20.00) but the food was great and I really hope it does well. An excellent addition to downtown Salem!

I've eaten here several times recently and my meal has always been delicious. The homemade bolognese is my favorite but I also recommend the other homemade pastas and specials. The servers are friendly, attentive and knowledgable and the bartender is especially top notch and charismatic. Great food, cocktails and service in a beautiful atmosphere.. Love the Adriatic and looking forward to my next visit.

My husband and I tried this place for date night a few weeks after it opened last summer. It has now become our favorite place to go for a nice night out. We ordered their artichoke and prosciutto salad to begin with - delicious and perfectly proportioned to share. For our main courses, my husband had the double pork chop and I had a pasta dish with clams. The porkchop was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the pasta was tender and delicious. The service was great the first night we went. We were seated outside, but were never ignored. It would be great if they could put another door to the outside seating area since the servers had to use the same door as the patrons going in and out - it seemed to be a pain for both servers and patrons to avoid bumping into each other. In the many times we've been since, we've only had one bad service situation and that was when we chose to sit in the bar area. The bartender was our server, but we weren't seated at the bar itself (at a high-top instead). It took about 10 minutes to get a drink ordered and even then my husband had to go up to the bar. I think the hostesses, who weren't busy, should've come over to get us our drinks until the bartender could come to take our orders. The shot of limoncello and fresh biscotti is always a perfect end to our meals at Adriatic.

We visited Adriatic for the third time. The first two visits were ok, but tonight was a disaster. We waited more than a half hour to get a drink from the bar. The place was virtually empty when we came although it did fill up an hour later. It was more than an hour before our entrees came. I had the handmade cavatelli with shrimp and lobster. The lobster was hard, stringy and overcooked. The pasta was hard, gummy, and practically unchewable. Not once did our waiter come to the table to check on our meals. WE were never asked if we wantred dessert. An altogether terrible experience.

Followed up with a second dinner at the Adriatic. We were greeted by co-owner and our server for the evening, Florian. Always good to know the owners are on-site! We started with the special appetizer, melon & proscuitto in a balsamic reduction. Excellent juxataposition of salty & sweet, with tangy reduction sauce. Accompanied by a full bodied Italian red wine. We had the veal saltimbocca ($19) with crispy new potatoes and green beans. It was better than before, with a tasty, lemony sauce, perfect for swiping the plate with bread. My dining partner had the fruitti di mare over homemade spaghetti ($19), which was blackened with squid ink. We were both very pleased with the taste, the preparation, the presentation. We will be back again!

Fancy Italian cuisine. Food is good but not too filling if you are looking for that kind of meal. The restaurant has a fancy atmosphere for all the funky-spookiness going on in outside Salem. I'd spare my visit to this place the next time I'm in town and just go to a low key spot to get a beer next time. Nothing special. Not impressed not disappointed either.

My partner and I have been to the Adriatic a few times since it opened. The service has always been excellent, the wine was perfect and the food was perfect from appetizer to desert. With all the fine dining choices available in Salem, the Adriatic will become a favorite. Try it! You won't be disappointed!

Wow I went to this place about 1 month ago..never again...the owner here was on here cell phone while she was seating my table..then we waited 30mins again while she just stood there looking around on here cell phone.chatting away..the bartender was awesome she was very sorry the whole time she was waiting on table and bartering I can understand that being stressful but then I went over to the girl come to find out she was the owner and asked if she can get our food and she looked at me and said let me see...1hr into this place we still had nothing to eat finally I said lets go! everyone at my table was starving and the owner didn't even care I had such high expectation for this place they did a beautiful renovation here!! But if the service isn't there the people wont be either! Also When you walk in there was a curtain so not attractive...good-luck people!

I have to say I like the food here, though I'm not particularly impressed with such a limited selection. The prices are a bit high but the servers are great--knowledgeable, polite, and attentive. The only significant issue I have is that it doesn't particularly smell very good inside...kind of like old food and cleaning products. Uck. First time I went I thought it was a coincidence, but the 2nd and 3rd times I went with business associates and although I said nothing, they were commenting on it. Wish they would do something about that. Not only does it kill the atmosphere but your appetite and mood as well. lol

Originally I was skeptical of this restaurant, having opened just before the height of the tourist season in Salem. I looked at the menu and walked by many times, not being drawn in. However, I was very pleasantly surprised last week. We ordered a homemade pasta dish with mushrooms (yum), a wonderful asparagus risotto, and the monkfish was really fantastic. The service was attentive, but the wine our slick waiter recommended was $46 which frankly was a silly price for a Tuesday night dinner for 4 women. My friend and I (both into wine tasting and buying) mimed 'no way' to each other when he suggested this bottle. The cheapest bottle on the menu was $26 which was a bit of a turn off in terms of ordering 2 or 3 bottles (which we would have done if they had been more reasonable). The ambiance of the restaurant is nice if a bit predictable, EXCEPT that I agree totally with another reviewer that the fluorescent lights from their open kitchen are a REAL eyesore. These lights practically ruin the ambiance for the rest of the restaurant. I think they may have toned them down in the past month because I don't notice them quite so much from the street when I walk by. However, the food was exceptionally good for a new restaurant and I'm hopeful they will survive the winter. Only restaurants that figure out how to please their non-tourist customers do well in this town.

I have never giving a place one star. Even if I don't like it, I give two; but this place gets one. Frist the food, two stars. I got a pizza with eggplant. And when I'm getting a nice pizza with "house" made mozzarella, I expect the eggplant to be thinly cut, not the sparse little chunks I got. The house mozzarella was bland as ever. Pizza isn't their thing, (which makes that whole pizza section on the menu worthless). The crust was too soft too thick. Appetizers were alright, stuffed zucchini blossoms were good, the zucchini sticks that came with it were soggy and bad. The horror show came with the check. Me and my girlfriend split the bill. I paid for my pizza, and put in a tip. A couple days later I look at my bank statement and some body change the amount considerably. They gave themselves a $32 tip!! that is completely unacceptable to me. I wrote in a tip, which wasn't even close to that. IT was TWICE as much as I paid for my MEAL!!! Now I have to go back and argue this. and put a fraud claim at my bank. Great. I am utterly stunned that this happened. At first they messed up the bill and over charged my girlfriends card, but we noticed the slip up while we were there. That got fixed. But They screwed it up TWICE and gave themselves a hefty bonus tip on my behalf. I've never been more mad at a restaurant before. I really really suggest you keep your receipt and check your bank statements.

I'll be a slightly condensed version of the beautiful & lovely Jennifer A's review. : ) Thought I would treat her to a nice dinner by taking her here. It looked fancy, was new, etc., so what could go wrong? Well not that everything was wrong, but nothing was right. Our waiter was nice although he took a long time to get to us after we sat down, getting us our appetizer & dinners (yes 35 minutes after our appetizer was when they came). I've had worse though. Then the food. It was okay at best. Over-priced compared to the portion size & taste. For a pricey restaurant I expected - and had - better & more. Yeah it would've been nice for the manager to come to our table. Same for getting a free dessert. Why that didn't happen when it appeared all the other tables did we'll never know. What I do know is that I won't be making an appearance there again. Oh, before we left I headed to the restroom. Near there it smelled like the Indian restaurant next door. It made me want to go there instead. In fact, I suggest that.

I give the Adriatic 2 stars ("meh, I've experienced better") primarily because I'm considering the value. The food could get 3 stars because it is pretty good -- have tried a couple gourmet pizzas, veal ossobuco, and a seafood risotto. But when you're paying these prices, you expect to be impressed with every bite. Not so at the Adriatic. We were underwhelmed both times we went. Also, the staff did not know much about the fish they were offering on their menu (whether fresh or farm-raised, etc), which was disappointing. We are not inspired to go back--just doesn't seem worth it.

Two stars says "meh. I've experienced better" well . . . I have. I was excited to try a new place when they opened and did not have great service or warm food. However I know restaurants sometimes don't hit it right the first time especially when they're new. So I tried a second time, and the food was warm and came out much faster. The food is okay, but I feel its a little too ordinary and small portioned that it becomes overpriced quickly. Cute place, great spot, friendly staff. But just okay.

Went here with some friends soon after it opened up- I think it may have even been the first weekend. We had a group of 8 and no reservation at 6pm and they were able to seat us right away. Score. We ordered some wine, looked over the menus, got some apps to share (I don't remember what but they were good) and then ordered dinner. We got a variety of dishes from pizza to steak to pasta to the veal saltimbocca that I got. It was great! Perfect portion sizes all around, worth the money and all. I will go back again. It did take awhile to get the food BUT in defense of the restaurant we were sat right around the same time of another large group of about 12 so I don't blame them for taking awhile. That must be rough for the kitchen. I will go back for sure as this is a great addition to the salem restaurant industry which seems to be booming right now.

Went to Adriatic with 5 others last month...we had a great time! Started out with a champagne cocktail at the bar and met Caroline, who is fabulous, friendly and very accomodating. When our entire party arrived we were seated in the back room and served by John Marco. Service was excellent! Appetizers were suggested, and ordered! and they were delicous. I opted for the homemade pasta dish, and it was perfectly cooked and the perfect size. We were celebrating two birthdays, and the staff took extra care to create a special dessert and presentation. This was my first time to Adriatic, but definately not my last. I look forward to trying them for lunch for the delicious pizzettas on the menu. Thank you Staff for a great night, we will be back for sure!

This place is a little gem in Salem. We went here during the Salem Film Fest (after an awful experience at Finz) and were rewarded with amazing ambiance, service and solid food and wine. Sarah our waitress did a wonderful job guiding us about which fish and produce were in season. My date had the littleneck clams and he said they were fabulous and that the juices/light sauce was perfectly flavored. I had braised artichokes with fresh mozzarella which was also delicious. The house made whole wheat tagliatelle with caramelized winter vegetables, and flecks of herbed goat cheese was tasty and fresh, but a little overcooked. The risotto was nicely balanced with jumbo, juicy scallops. Definitely a memorable experience.

What can I say? This is the closest to heaven that Salem gets. Every meal I have had there has exceeded my expectations. The servers are prompt and courteous. I have never had to wait for anything there. For the quality of the food and the service, the price is reasonable. Not a price I can afford to go to weekly, but for the occassional treat, it's fabulous.

This great addition to the Salem dining list is a contender for best in town. All ingredients are fresh and everything on the menu has an appeal. The wine list is to the point and well chosen. The staff is friendly and engaging. The ownership's commitment to Salem and to doing a good job is consistent night in and night out.

Nobody likes long winded reviews so here are the details short and sweet. Dinner on Saturday night (10/2): Our waitperson Sharday (sp?) was excellent. She had the timing of the meal perfect and was extremely knowledgeable regarding the menu. Thank you to he again. Pinot Noir Sartori - EXCELLENT wine Antipasto Appetizer - Meats and Cheeses were delicious and very fresh; the dish would have benefited from a couple marinated artichokes and some roasted red peppers. Roasted Cod - the Fingerling potato scales were amazing and the Cod was so fresh. Double Cut Pork Chop - This was the best pork chop I think I have ever had. It was enormous and it was perfectly cooked (ordered medium). It melted in your mouth and was incredibly juicy. Just perfectly cooked. The only other criticism is the bread at the beginning was not very good at all. No offense if this was homemade, but it was a cold doughy focaccia with what seemed like Ragu red sauce on top. A simple nice hearty french or rustic would have been perfect. Wish we had saved room for dessert because the complimentary homemade snowflake biscotti was Delicious! We will definitely be back.

My wife and I have been here twice and absolutely love it. There is not one single thing I can complaing about. First time we went we had lunch on a Saturday and even brought our 3 month old baby with us. (He didnt eat much) We shared an antipasto, had some pasta fagioli, I had chicken parm and she had a arugala salad with grilled chicken. Everything was top notch and out of this world!! Service was good. Ambiance was awesome. The restaraunt is gorgeous inside. We went again last night with some friends and had one of the best dinners ever. I highly recommend the double pork chop. It was cooked to perfection and in a fantastic sauce. Again the antipastop was amazing. Carmalized onion soup... to die for. Oh and I forgot to mention homemade almond biscotti when you get your check. Yes it is a little pricey, but you are paying for some fo the best food in Salem!

Last night was the second time my wife and I have been to the Adriatic, both visits have been excellent. The restaurant looks great, simple and elegant with an exposed kitchen and an angled bar. The calamari was an excellent starter, salmon entree was cooked perfectly, flank steak was as ordered (would like to see a rib eye or other higher end cut). Also have had the pork chop which had been recommended to me and it was out of this world. Wines by the glass pretty reasonable from $6-9. Nice upscale place in a fun section of Salem.

I was surprised to see the reviews here - I guess don't get the eggplant pizza but everything i've had including the pizza margharita has been some of the best italian food i've had, including the north end. So far we've sampled, the cod, the pork chop, the pizza margharita, and pasta bolognese. I thought everything was 5 star and I'm picky when saying something is "amazing" - I think this place is fantastic, haven't had any problems with billing and the food is simply amazing . . . wine list excellent, ambiance, excellent - I think this is the first 5 star review i've ever given. I will agree that the appetizers are "good" but the main courses and pasta are out of this world.

this was the perfect spot for a negative one year anniversary (as in, the date exactly one year before our wedding) with my fiance. adriatic is just fancy enough to feel special, but not so swanky that two dive rats felt out of place. i just put on an extra coat of mascara and switched my wallet and phone out of my filthy tote bag. done and done. you can barely tell the edgewater used to be here. the minimalistic paint job on the artless walls really fit the scene, and the lighting was perfect for a nice friday night dinner. the tables were not too cramped in the second room, which is great because i can't stand feeling like you're part of the table next to you's conversation. the service was pretty amazing. there was a bit of confusion at first, because our server didn't know she was our server. i don't know if this had anything to do with the fact that we had reservations, but that's just a guess. anyway, this meant that we waited a little bit before anyone came to our table with anything more than water and bread. the bread was probably my only disappointment; it was good, but not amazing. this is actually a really good thing for me, though, because i'm trying to be less fat. once the server issue was figured out, we had AMAZING service. it felt like we were the girl's only customers. someone i don't know with a different name messaged me to tell me her name is jamilynn. i'm actually not sure how the person knew who i was talking about, so maybe jamilynn is a standout in being awesome? anyway, she was so nice, personable, and had a great sense of humor right off the bat. it felt like we were old friends. our booze and food came out super fast. i'd go back for the service alone. the food was wonderful. we opted for just entrees, since we got a bottle of wine and we're not rich. i got the roast cod with fingerling potatoes, green beans, and a tomato vinaigrette (i think that's what that was, anyway). this gorgeously artful plate tasted amazing. the green beans were actually switched out for broccoli rabe, which was a surprise. i LOVE rapini, though, so this worked out in my favor. the cod was perfect, the potatoes were super crispy and awesome, and i enjoyed the tomato stuff. my fiance got the orichette with spicy sausage. the sausage wasn't super spicy hot, but was very flavorful. he liked it but would definitely try something different next time. there was this GORGEOUS pizza that we're going to get next time that had what looked like an entire salad on top. it was arugula. can i go back today? for about $18.00, the portion was a perfect size. i left completely satisfied and comfortable. i ate the entire plate and didn't feel like i needed to be rolled out by a wheelbarrow, although that would have been super fun. a few days beforehand, we were making dinner plans with a friend. he didn't want to go to adriatic because we didn't know if, for $20, you got a beastload of food. he didn't want to pay that much if he wasn't going to be busting out of his pants at the end of the meal. this is not that kind of place. this isn't applebees or some shit. this is NOT the causeway in gloucester, which is like three meals of food for the same price. it's also not one of those hyper-swank establishments where you get a filet mignon smaller than a steak tip and pay $35 for the privilege of being there. for a special occasion meal for twenty-somethings that are still paying off school loans and silly-mistakes credit card bills, the quality of the food is worth the money. we also got dessert, which we don't usually get, mainly because we eat too much before the menu comes out. we got the tiramisu, which was not the best i've ever had, but was still really really good. i got a cappuccino, which really did it for me, and my fiance got an espresso. he was in love with the espresso. ultimately, when the bill came, we were both super surprised that it wasn't more. i thought it was going to be closer to $100, and i was about $25-$30 pleasantly off. no matter what, it was worth it. actually, my fiance said he didn't even look at the breakdown of the costs of everything because everything was so good that it didn't matter. anyway, i can't wait to go back, and i'm excited that salem is so up-and-coming with great restaurants like this.

Classy decor, decent food, but something is not right in the kitchen. I went one night, by myself, when it was less than 1/3 full, people slowly coming in and leaving in equal proportions. Took over an hour for my food to get to me because the cook was, and I quote, "slammed". I looked around at the nearly empty restaurant. If this was slammed, what the HELL was he going to do if the place ever got BUSY? And when the food actually came? 1. Small portion for a big price, and 2. NOT WHAT I ORDERED. The teeny-tiny glass of limoncello I recieved at the end of the meal was a poor apology and cold comfort in the face of the $40 I'd just spent on a very unsatisfying meal.

I have been here 3 times so far. The wine and beer list are fantastic (wish I got to try the pumpkin infused vodka..next time!). The menu is great. The last time I split a couple of appetizers, a Caesar salad and a shrimp pizza and it was one of the best meals I have had in a very long time. We ate at the bar and met Katrina. She made our experience there incredible. She was such a polished and charming bartender and her wine knowledge and food suggestions really made us feel special. I cannot remember ever having had better service anywhere.

My wife and I went to Adriatic for the first time. I had heard great things about this new restaurant and wanted to find out for myself. Yes, it is as good as they say it is. Restaurant staff including waiters are professional, considerate and attentive without smothering. And the food! The food lives up to all of the rave reviews so far. Adriatic reminds you of the best that Boston's North End has to offer. As a former New Yorker, I'm spoiled by that city's excellent restaurants, and this place competes with the best of them. With all this gushing you'd think that Adriatic must be expensive. It isn't. Pricing is moderate and quite competitive with most of Salem's other fine restaurants.

Four of us went to Adriatic the second Saturday they were open. I try new restaurants with an open mind, knowing there will be bumps. With that in mind I give Adriatic a strong thumbs up. The relaxing decor allowed us to relax over a good bottle of wine, the delicious antipasto, very solid Caesar Salad and their delicious small cubes of focacia bread that was placed with dipping oil on the very nicely set table. Service was top shelf, classy and warm. We felt like true guests. It took some time for our entrees to come out, which was fine because we were with good company, but if we had anything else doing it would have seemed too long. In their defense it was very busy and they are getting their act together - I am sure things will speed up a little as they move forward. Food ranged from excellant to good. The tuna was done just right and was complemented by the sides, the only odd thing was no potatos or other starch on the plate. My friend who had the bolognese loved it. Veal was said to be delicious, the one dish that was less than great was the chicken, good tasting but rather ordinary. The owner was over to our table a couple of times and was very attentive and friendly. I look forward to returning and am certain that as they tweak things it will be a top Salem restaurant. Substantial wine list. I look forward to trying the pizza (it looked very good)
