For starters, GREAT home fries. A breakfast place can really live and die by those, and these ones are legit. Servers have been uniformly pleasant and around to fill up your coffee but not super obtrusive (I've sat at the bar only so far), which I personally like. The omelets I've had were good, though I don't get cheese, so it's a little more like "Enjoy these vegetables with egg around them," but I *do* enjoy them and they are definitely chock full of veggies, so I'm happy. Definitely the best option in the area for breakfast (that I've found so far). Easy in and out, and not so crowded that there's a line.

HUGE portions--great, simple foods. I suggest you share portions!

mckay's is pretty tasty... thanks yelp for helping my bf and i find a breakfast place closeby! i LOVE the corn muffins..the 2nd time i went there, it was out :( the frieds clams roll is mighty fine as well...we liked the belgium waffles with strawberries and whipped cream..mmm and the oj is good! it actually tastes good and not watered down: my bf went "sooo this is why you didn't share any..its actually good" heehhee. the eggs benedict is yummy too...very real homefries, like legit potatoes..big potatoe pieces! and according to the bf...the best club sandwich he's ever had. we never wait...and we can usually find the server when we are done..never rushed...very nice people There you have it folks!

Standard breakfast spot - food came out super fast. The prices are a bit high compared to other places in the area so that's unfortunate but for a once in awhile place, it would do. The corned beef hash was meh, IMO. My dad seemed to like it but he may have just been being nice since I suggested we try the place (and he try the hash). It was under seasoned and a bit mushy. My bagel sandwich was good and greasy and mom enjoyed hers on an English muffin. Didn't love the home fries as they were also mushy. But given the fact that our food was out in under 5 minutes after ordering I'm assuming they were already made.

I've been here 3 times. I've had one good meal. I went here for the first time for breakfast and it took a while to get eggs, while pancakes are pretty much out in 2 minutes. I went here for lunch and the cheeseburger club was still mooing. The wait staff is fine. No problems there, but the food is just 'eh'. Funny side: The time I went here last, there was a patron, not talking, but yelling to the person they were sitting across from. "How are the Lamb Shanks!?" "I talked to the judge and asked him what do I need to do to just erase all this mess" and "Make sure the burger has no sesame seeds, I can't have sesame seeds" were the sentences that stopped me from eating and made me think about where I was. The last sentence pretty much sums up the person was arrested and is in a drug rehab program. Gotta love Quincy residence.

Good food. Really busy. Can definitely tell a lot of locals come here which always means good things. There are a lot of good Irish breakfast options and the portions are huge. Staff was nice. Not the best breakfast of my life but it was good.

After hearing so many reviews that this was a "hidden gem" I had to try it! Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out for so I wouldn't miss the chance to try out a local diner or greasy spoon. Maybe so many of the reviews set my expectations a little too high, but my experience was thoroughly kind of meh. Pluses: Extensive menu Fair amount of seating, so no wait even on a busy weekend when we went Portions are huge Cons: Taste - food was plentiful, but only average Coffee - yuck (coffee-stained little creamers on the table, double yuck) Probably not the cleanest place (I can forgive some, since many greasy spoons tend to be just that...greasy) Probably not fair to say service was a con. They were there, but you needed to really flag them down. They are either that busy that if you don't trip them, you won't get their attention, or t hey just couldn't be bothered to proactively check in. Didn't come to check or refill coffees until we completely finished our plates and was ready to go. Thanks, but no thanks now that we're leaving! I might give it another try if there is reason for me to get to that neck of the woods, but as it is, there's no reason for me to bypass closer and either similar or better options closer to me.

As far as breakfast goes, this place was decent. At first glance, the menu appeared pretty expensive for what it was. $10 for eggs benedict?!? not really impressed. Instead I ordered the basic 2 eggs over-easy, a grilled bagel and home fries with bacon. the portions here explain the price...i think i was served at least 6 pieces of bacon! Everything was hot and fresh, the bacon was crispy and the bagel not overly greasy. Potatoes were yummy but could have been more well done. i didn't hate this place but i didn't think it was anything that special...i'd go back if I were in that neck of the woods.

I almost didn't want to write this review because I don't want to have to wait to be seated. LOL. This breakfast place is open til 3pm. It is awesome. Portions are huge. Food is delicious. People are super friendly. I found my secret breakfast place. Do yourself a favor.....stop going to IHOP or Bickfords. This place McKays is home cooking at its finest. Homemade corned beef hash is to die for. BTW.....the coffee is amazing.

Breakfast is my absolute favorite meal to eat out and this kind of place is why. Great food, fast, friendly and efficient service (this place runs like a well oiled machine!). Great options and all tasty. Prices are in the higher end for breakfast, but you will get what you pay for. Yum.

Ok go here! If you want Irish food definitely make the stop. Now the parking situation can be tricky, but so is Boston. The food and service were both good the visit we made before leaving Boston. I tried the traditional Irish Breakfast which I was delighted with, since I have wanted to try blood sausage, but wanted it authentic, which I felt I found here. I absolutely loved the Irish bacon as well!

I just moved to Quincy from San Diego and while my boyfriend and I were walking around checking out our new town we walked by McKay's. The line was out the door. We always see that as a good sign that there's good food. So we came back the next day and every weekend after that! They have reeeeally great food. Every time I've been I've had the same thing, a waffle with banana and whipped cream. So yummy! But my boyfriend got something different each time. I would recommend their pigs in a blanket. I don't know what kind of sausage they use or how they cook it but it's so good and different. Also if you order their Irish Soda Bread, which you should, and they ask if you want it grilled say YES!

Awesome irish breakfast! It's always busy, but you'll never wait long. Not expensive either! The waitresses are always attentive for coffee refills, and the food is awesome!

You can always tell a Great Local Place from the crowds eating there. McCay's is a Great Local Place. We are not talking fine dining here. This place has no "ambience," unless your idea of ambience is bright fluorescent lighting, crowds of people sitting elbow-distance from one another, and the world's fastest wait staff flying through the crowds to bring you your food. But if you are looking for good, home-style cooking, lots of it, at reasonable prices, this is the place to go in Quincy. This is a breakfast and lunch place, and seems very popular with the local police. Can't say that I disagree with them, though I have to wonder how they make any money with an Early Bird Special of three eggs, home fries, and toast for under $3. Hell, you couldn't get out of McD's for that kind of money, and the food's better here. The Irish breakfast is a meal and a half, and as good as what I've eaten in Eire. Only downside is that, on weekends, the place is hopping, so you might want to consider getting your food to-go.

  • Emily D.

Homestyle Breakfast without breaking the bank. My kinda place. For under $20 you can get a full breakfast for two and have no room in your belly for more. You'll be so full when you leave this place. The pancakes are huge, the service is friendly and quick. The place looks small from the outside but when you enter there's plenty of seating. You WILL go home happy!!

McKay's is right across the street from the John Adams and John Quincy Adams birthplace. Kind of cool. I had eggs over easy with wheat toast and home fries. That is pretty difficult to mess up. The eggs were fine, but the home fries were pretty bland. The waffles were good. I ordered a blueberry muffing. It was partially toasted but part of it was also a little wet (it probably sat in plastic wrapper for a while). The coffee was pretty weak. Sure, it's not expensive, but the food is greasy and pretty bland. Also, the waitress was kind of sassy, with little quips when I asked for an extra egg, more coffee, etc. Sometimes people find that charming, but I don't.

Love McKay's. They might be a buck or $.50 more than a few of the other places around but they give you a huge pile of really good, home cooked food. The hash is homemade ever morning and in my opinion it's the best of any breakfast place in the area. If you doubt that it's homemade go in there before 7am and inhale deeply. The home fries are authentic - boiled potatoes, drained and thrown on the griddle with some oil and salt. The staff are all veterans who have been there for the most part as long as I've been going there (around 7-8 years). It's a tight squeeze when it's crowded because of the way the floor plan is set up but they make it work. They used to only be an 8 seat grease spot but have gradually expanded into the neighboring stores as they closed over the years, thus the weird layout. Don't sit at the end of the bar near the door in January though unless you tuck your sweatshirt into your undies. For the lunches I've had the whole clam plate which was awesome, the turkey dinner (also made fresh that morning), the scallop plate which was pretty good, and something else with brown bread that was pretty good. I forget what it was. Maybe blood sausage? I don't know, some Irish thing I think. But I think the clam plate is their best meal. They taste like they're right off the boat fresh and someone must pick out the ones with the big, soft, whole bellies because they're awesome. This place serves great food and I've never had an issue with the waitstaff. If you live in the area you've probably seen the owner out around Quincy and he's a genuinely nice guy who loves his job and goes above and beyond to make it a welcoming place to get a meal.

The food isn't good. The potatoes are soggy, the scrambled eggs runny, and the hash tasted very odd. You can do better staying at home and cooking for yourself!

5 stars - what can I say, we go all the time and have never, ever had a bad meal or even a less than stellar one which is just a testament to the quality of food that the kitchen puts out. Mostly go for breakfast - recommend anything with Irish Bacon..mmmm... Also for lunch - they have a turkey club that is made with real turkey - from a roast! Service is also fantastic - love all the girls. Keep it up McKay's - we love you!

I love being able to grab a quick breakfast at the counter. The staff is always friendly & the food is served very quickly & hot!! Good size servings but a little pricier than other breakfast spots. I'll keep on coming back....

Recommend the cheese omelet and toast and potatoes. Service is fast and friendly. In my view, an overall excellent value for the money.

I would ave given this place 5 stars but the last time I came here, the service was flat out terrible. I use to come here (a total of 3 times) when I flew into town from LA on the way to visit my gf who lived in the area. I would look forward to this place every time i came to visit b/c the food is pretty good. But the last visit didn't sit well with me. And here's why. We sat down (mind you that we were the only peeps sitting in the back area) so we thought we would be served pretty quickly as we always get the same order. Not the case. We sat there for literally 10 minutes before we even got waited on. We then see a mother and daughter come and sit next to the table across from us and they get waited on immediately. The waitress, who is a disgruntled employee mind you since she didn't even crack a smile, takes their order and not ours, even though we sat down 10 minutes before them. Suddenly the mother and daughter's food comes out in 5 minutes! All this happening while my gf and I still haven't placed our order! Shocking. We called our waitress over and she didnt even acknowledge the fact that she was doing a shitty, excuse my language, job. It's too bad as I once liked and spoke highy of this place. Not anymore. Overall: D-

By far my favorite breakfast place in Quincy. The parking is something to be desired, but it's definitely worth the hassle. I love this place for many reasons, one of them being that they are the only place that I know of in the area that serves a real Irish breakfast (which I find strange because I have been on the South Shore my whole life, which is home to the biggest Irish population in the state). The corned beef hash here is homemade and not that canned crap that everywhere else serves. For me, though, I generally just go with my standard scrambled eggs, bacon, and home fries. What I absolutely LOVE about this place is that they have Irish soda bread (which I can never find anywhere!), which makes me one happy lady. I always choose the soda bread as my toast to go with my eggs. Overall, simply delicious. It is pretty much always the same waitress that is working here whenever I go (actually I'm pretty sure she is the owner), but she is always friendly and quick with her service. They also recently expanded the restaurant, so there is now additional seating. My favorite place to sit will always be the breakfast bar that is there when you first walk in.

Drove by many times but finally had the chance to try this breakfast joint. The prices here aren't cheap for a local joint; but a large portion served. I love the corn beef hash here. Pretty decent place to have breakfast if you want to spend over $10.

Best local breakfast place in Quincy. Homefries are excellent, hash and eggs is the best, great waffles, and the service is always the best!

I went again yesterday and brought a friend who is a serious Yelper. I got the country breakfast with a side of corn beef and hash.He got the Irish breakfast. Again very generous portions and it was out to us in about 2 1/2 minutes the food was so good.He loved the place. And the waitress was spot on.This is my new breakfast spot.

My first trip here was for a quick lunch about 15 minutes before they closed. The food was good and the price was fair, but I knew I had to give them another try. I felt bad that we came in so late, but the waitress was as friendly as it gets on the south shore. My second visit here was fantastic. Coffee came out quick, refilled but not too often. I got a huge pile of hash on my plate, two perfectly cooked eggs over-medium, and probably 6 roasted red potatoes. I'll probably skip the home fries/potatoes in the next trip (just because its a ton of food), but I am getting the hash again for sure. It was so so good. Salty, tender, the right amount of onions and crispy edges. I mixed it up with the egg yolk and I was in heaven. Now I'm thinking we should go again this weekend.

Cheap - Yes. Greasy - Yes. Sassy waitstaff - Yes. People staring because you are not from around there - Yes. Everything tastes like bacon - Yes. If you like all of those things, then go. I however do not like people staring at me because I don't look like a masshole (THANK GOD) and I don't eat meat so having bacon grease all over everything made me want to vomit. You would think they would clean their grill - guess not.

  • Benjamin S.

This is the place to go for quick, large portion, homestyle breakfast. Staff is always attentive and friendly. I've been a bunch of times, only on weekends. It's usually busy, but I usually come in and get to sit right down at a table, sometimes I have to wait a couple minutes. They take Amex, which is great for me cause thats all I use to pay with.

Simply this place is GREAT !!! Service is friendly and quick, portions are awesome and the important part the food is excellent. First time there was Sunday, a few people waiting outside but everyone was seated quickly. Greeted by waitress promptly with menu and coffee, coffee is very good. Took a short while to get meal after ordering, but not too long. Well worth the wait.. A friend who has no problem clearing a plate told me the portions were plentiful, take my advise and loosen the belt before you sit . Couldn't decide between ham or hash, so I ordered ham and cheese omelet with side of hash, needed to walk two more miles when I got home, hash browns were piled high and delicious .My wife had scrambled with bacon Breakfast is probably the simplest meat to prepare and to most common meal messed up,but not at McKay's. Can't do this every day but wish I could

Not my usual breakfast joint but everywhere was closed on the July 4th holiday.....except for McKay's so already it was in my good books :) We went fairly early (7am) and the place wasn't very busy (probably because of the holiday) so we were served promptly much to my liking! I got the blueberry pancakes and my boyfriend got the bacon and cheese omelette with home fries......both dishes were delicious and a good size. It's a little pricier than most small breakfast joints in the area but not by much. Staff was friendly and kept the coffee flowing...bonus!

  • Rachael U.

I love this place. The waitstaff is awesome, and they remember you and always make a point to say hi when you come in. This place can get PACKED. They have a pretty quick turnover though, so you'll never wait too long. I always get the eggs benedict. the hollandaise sauce is SO GOOD. Sometimes...usually...the homefries can be mushy, so I always ask them to cook them well done on the grill (they will also cook them in the fryolator for you too). Portion size is huge, food always comes quick (it can be a little slower on Sundays, their busiest day), and I love it! Lunch is great too...I usually stick with the turkey club, which is good. If you're lucky enough to come on a day when they have beef stew...it is to die for!

The only thing I don't like about McKays is that I really can't do artificial maple syrup anymore after years of living in New England, so if I go there I can't convince myself to order pancakes, etc. Overall, a classic breakfast and lunch joint, with addition of Irish items (it is called McKays, after all)! The people are really nice and the food is good. Homefries are great - made from freshly cut red potatoes. Omelets are massive - consider getting a breakfast sandwich if you're not starving (western is my favorite). There are actually three rooms plus the counter, and tables turn over pretty quickly, from what we've seen, so the waits aren't ridiculous even during busy times. Parking is on street but we've never had a problem. Last visit, we even saw Deval Patrick lunching there!

Good location for breakfast in a pinch - taste is okay and portions a very large. Egg cooked perfect but toast and has browns both soggy. Hash browns are more like boiled potato no crisp. Bacon also cooked to liking. Overall, not my favorite breakfast place but works in a pinch.

Hello All, I checked our this spot around noon time with the expectation of great food and friendly service. I was not disappointed. The ambiance was quaint with a 'throwback' look of the diner packed with dedicated local patrons. The restaurant's menu was simple and straight to the point. The food was very tasty and the potions extremely generous. The price point is more than fair and the service and quick and attentive. I strongly recommend this diner for all fans of enjoying the tasty and affordable breakfast. Thumbs up! Regards, Daniel

Stopped here for breakfast when I was in from out of town. The corned beef hash was a little piece of heaven wrapped up in delightfulness. I don't have Irish joints in Baltimore so it was great to have real hash for a cheap price. The potatoes could have been crispier and seasoned but the hash was amazing and all of my buddies loved their huge omelets.

I have driven past McKays plenty of time so my wife suggested we go there for breakfast. First off the place is about three times bigger than it looks from the outside. The place was packed but we were seated promptly. The menu was very basic, home fries, eggs, pancakes french toast etc. Nothing really out of the ordinary. Compared to some other breakfast places I found it a little more expensive. Howeve,r the amount of food you receive justifies the price I suppose. Here is where I was a little turned off. I know the place was busy but the waitress I had was not very friendly. I understand that being a waitress can be very stressful but she looked like she simply did not want to be there. I felt like we were being hustled out the door while we were eating. Lastly I handed her the check and she did not even say thank you. Basic courtesy goes quite a long way with me. All in all it was an average experience between the food and the service. It was not awful but I will not be rushing back there anytime soon.

This is definitely our go-to breakfast spot on the weekends. It gets busy, so service can be a little gruff at times. There's definitely a crowd - the Boston Irish Red-Sox loving type. We are neither Boston natives, nor Irish, so we stick out. But the food is good, and they have the best coffee. That'll keep me coming back for some time.

Sorry this place just isnt that good. Last time i was in got bacon and eggs and the bacon tasted like a rubber shoe that had been sitting around for a week. I almost sent it back but didnt feel like wasting my time.

The top of the class in breakfast joints South of Boston. The pancakes are spot on and the hash is a treat. I have always had good service here and the prices are fair for breakfast and lunch... great value for Thurs/Fri dinner.

I would love to tell everybody how bad this place is only so we can get in without a wait. Unfortunately for me, its great! This is real old fashioned breakfast food done to perfection. It is always served piping hot, which alleviates a pet peeve of mine. The servers are all helpful and friendly(and easy on the eyes!). They attend to details even when the place is crazy-busy, which happens on Saturday and Sunday. I love this place. Try the corned beef hash. MMMMMMM....

I had heard good things, so when Kristin's in Braintree had a 15-20 minute wait, we came here. It was crowded and muggy but we grabbed a few seats at the bar. Pretty eclectic crowd. Some families, some couples, a few women with 5-6 kids, etc. Waitress was very nice. We ordered and waited a good 10 minutes for our food. In that ten minutes we looked around at the decor, tables, countertops (where they had a big tray of muffins sitting with only a small piece of sarap wrap over), and it ALL needs cleaning and updating. They obviously have a consistent crowd but how can they feel right about serving their customers food in this run down place? It looks like it hasn't been touched in 30 years. Waffles- good, veggie omelet- large but super watery (wouldn't get it again). The omelet did come with a huge portion of home fries which were very good. not greasy. I wish I had tried the pancakes because they looked good. The reason I give it a 2 is because I wouldn't come back unless they renovated. I'll stick with Kristin's.

Good breakfast and lunch spot. Corned beef hash is excellent. Very generous portions for breakfast and lunch. I've had the fisherman's platter, turkey tips, liver and onions, turkey dinner, salmon and have been happy with all of them. The wait staff is friendly, quick, efficient and responsive.

Good breakfast place. Nothing fancy, but that's good. Eggs cooked to order. Giant pancakes. Excellent home fries. Excellent coffee. Homey feel. There's a line on weekends for a reason.

  • Jennifer D.

This small breakfast/lunch place has some good breakfast food. The service is friendly and the food is good. It can be more expensive then the other Quincy breakfast places, but between the food and the service, I am willing to pay a little more. There is a lunch counter and a separate restaurant area. The waiting area is primarily outside so on a rainy day, it might be good to bring an umbrella.

    (4)
  • Andrew L.

They have the biggest and best fish sandwich you will ever eat. $10 gets you a sandwich and a cup of really good chowdah. The fish tastes like it was caught minutes before it was put in the fryer. It doesn't get any fresher.

This place is appears very small from the outside but consists of three seperate but connected dining rooms. I recently had breakfast here, and was greeted and seated promptly. Ordered the Pigs in Blankets, which came out very quick and was piping hot. Portion was generous and pancakes were light and fluffy. Service was great too! For fast service, huge portions and a meal that won't break the bank, check this place out!

  • Michelle J.

I think McKay's actually beats out McKenna's for my favorite breakfast place. I usually get two eggs over easy, corn beef hash, home fries with toast and split a pancake with a friend. The corn beef here is positively delicious and the eggs are always perfect. The home fries could handle to be a bit crispier, but they are plentiful. The portions are very generous and everything moves very quickly. I've never had a wait to sit even on a weekend (although this place is always full) which I think makes me like it just a smidge more than McKennas... it's nice not to have to wait nearly an hour to sit on a weekend. I keep coming back because they're consistent and delicious with reasonable prices (I usually pay about $12 with tip for my breakfast).

Great Food that comes out hot and fast, and is very cost friendly! The servers are delightful, I've NEVER had a bad meal there! The Turkey Club is the best- REAL TURKEY BREAST, not the sliced deli crap. This place is becoming an institution.

My wife and I just moved in right up the street from McKay's and it's been on our places-to-go list for the past 3 weeks. We went on a Saturday morning, and it was pretty busy. The waitress was very nice and very helpful, and when I asked about the negative Yelp reviews, she explained that the rude waitresses were no longer there. It seems as though they take these reviews very seriously. The food was very good with very generous portions. I'm generally not one to leave food on the plate, but I really had no choice. Service was very fast, even with a very busy restaurant. I'll be going back to try their lunch and dinner, but I really enjoyed their breakfast.

Great place and great prices in a family friendly atmosphere. We got a great table next to a window that looks directly at the old Adams homestead, birthplace of our 2nd and 6th presidents. Highly recommended.

I always enjoy my trips here. Part of that is knowing how to order. here are a few tips if you're at all like me. Most of the omelette a come with the cooled egg wrapped around whatever filling you request like a blanket. I don't want that. I want it all mixed together, the egg acting as a delicious glue for my ingredients and they are more than happy to make it that way if you ask! Another tip: I always ask for well-done French fries instead of home fries even when ordering breakfast because they are thick cut and delicious! If you are a home fry fan like my boyfriend try asking them to throw them in the deep fryer! It's delicious and let's face it, diner food is not about counting calories. Otherwise, when I'm here my coffee cup rarely goes past half empty as they are quick to top it off even on busy weekends. When you approach the building on such a weekend you may panic when you see several groups waiting outside and several more packed inside the doors waiting for tables. BREATHE! It really does move quickly and it's worth the wait. This is also a great place to take a meal alone. Sit at the counter and enjoy the locals and the staff chatting during slow times. There is usually a paper to read or you can join in with the rest of the counter crew playing along to the daytime version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire on the television. Even if you're a party of one you won't feel lonely.

Just meh. The breakfast sandwich was ok, but the french toast was not nice. Coffee not nice either, luckily there's a Dunkin a few minute walk. We came in to try a new breakfast place just for the hell of it, disappointed. The location is ok, lots of street parking on a weekday morning, and cool to see the birthplace of Adams. That was actually the highlight.

This place is awesome if you just want some good breakfast and nice family homie feeling environment. The food was good, prices were reasonable and the staff is really friendly. The pancakes are huge and really tasty!! I would definitely go back!

Great breakfast place! I had the pigs in a blanket and I will be coming back! For a small place it didnt seem too packed and service

Nothing too adventurous but very good at what it does. If you want the omelette, pancakes, French toast, bacon thing this is a place for you. Hostess and waitresses are great. They're used to handling the crowds. Despite being busy on a Sunday we were in and out in a very reasonable amount of time. Just a straight-up breakfast place. Nothing fancy.

Service was good. Food was average, nothing you can't make at home. A bit pricey though.

Love the ham and cheese omelet feeds me for two mornings! This is our place of choice for breakfast at work.

Food was ok.. home fries were a little bland, corned beef hash wasn't the best I've had (and I am a corned beef hash aficionado). Customer service, the girls are hustle and bustle, running to and fro and the kitchen silverware and mug girl is bitching about them all. To much drama in this place for me. Our waitress was a well rehearsed point by point no personality or time for the customers with her. Price was fine if you want to dine with Drama!

Good food and good service. The potatoes are real which you don't find at most places. The waitress was super awesome, think her name was Joan. She was on the counter Saturday afternoon. The only thing that keeps this place from getting five stars is the fact that I've been to five breakfast places in quincy and it is the most expensive with no real reason why. No reason to not come back though. One good plus is that they have apple jelly for your toast! That is something that I've never seen at a breakfast place. Overall solid place. I will most definitely be back.

My boyfriend and I shared a breakfast sandwich and an Irish breakfast which was more than we could finish. The server was prompt and knew what to ask. 3.5 stars for food quality 5 stars for service. Food came out within 5 min and was HOT! :) Good food for a good price.

go here for their irish breakfast. they serve one of the best i've had around the boston area. it comes with proper brown bread, real irish sausages, rashers, eggs, beans, pudding and a fried tomato. service is always super friendly and efficient.

Solid food and great service. Would be 5 stars if but they have a small pest problem since they expanded. Everything seems clean though, so I assume that there wont be pests for long after they get an exterminator. I had the eggs Benedict my first visit and it was fantastic. The second visit I got the steak and eggs and it was equaly delicious. needlessw to say I plan to be a regular here.

My first time here and it's worth a review. Food was better than I expected. Corned beef is homemade (but a little mashed for my taste) and the eggs were cooked right. I dont eat home fries usually, but theirs were fresh red bliss and not greasy. The coffee was fresh and good. It's clean, the wait staff are hard workers and the place was very busy. There are a lot of good breakfast places in the area and this one takes credit cards and there was no wait, so they just rose above my first two choices.

Its was nice experience. Good quantity, cheap and they accept cards too.

Its a pretty big place and they do get really busy. I would go back but its just a typical breakfast spot (nothing too out of the ordinary). The wait staff is great and they do pump the food put of the kitchen pretty fast....so they can habdle some larger groups, unlike many other breakfast places.

Wow. So our waitress Julie was pretty rude to my friend and our food took 50 minutes after waiting for 20 minutes to be seated. My coffee mug was dirty, my friends fork was dirty and when I asked for syrup for my waffle the horrible server grabbed a half empty used one from an already seated table (they don't use bottles ones, they use these metal containers that they fill for tables that ask). I took a look at the strawberries on my waffle (luckily) and found a nice thick hair staring at me. Manager took it off my bill. Never coming back, there's so many better choices nearby. Ridiculous.

I've been going to McKay's for a few months now. It's pretty average diner food; not bad, but not great either. Pros: good pancakes, they really know how to cook an over-easy egg, friendly waitstaff, tasty sausage patties, affordable. Cons: serving time is really inconsistent. Sometimes your food will arrive in 5 minutes, sometimes 20. Their sausage links are bad, they taste weirdly like pine...? (Thankfully they're fine with replacing something if you don't like it.) The Irish bacon that comes with the Irish breakfast was way way way too salty, their toast is always limp and not particularly toasty, and their home fries taste okay but there's always chunks of potato that aren't fully done (and they're not crispy). Not much to say, it's just middle-of-the-road food, fine for an occasional weekend breakfast.

Literally the fastest breakfast service from scratch ever. I have waited in drive thru-s longer. Some staff are slow on a coffee refill but order a huge breakfast and see how fast it arrives. The early bird special ends at 8am but so cheap in price of your free you gotta try it

Good breakfast place with a variety to choose from and fair prices. Very crowded on Saturday and Sunday mornings so it's normal to be waiting at the front door to be seated. There is street parking which usually isn't difficult to find, if anything you would just have to walk a couple minutes down the street.

Found this place while I was stranded in a snow storm. Had the "Irish Breakfast" which consisted of 3 eggs, black & white pudding, Irish bacon, bangers, home fries, beans, and either brown bread or Irish soda bread....huge amount of decadent food! Also saw the fish and chips and shepard's pie go by which both were amazingly huge.....as well as delicious! Give this place a shot! You'll be satisfied!

Come hungry! I love this little place, definitely the best omelets I have ever had and the biggest pancake too. I love everything about this place. You get great bang for your buck. I usually end up taking food home. I just wish the place was a little bigger and open a little later because most of the time you have to wait a few minutes. I suppose that's a small price to pay for great food and a lot of it.

The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because they are only open on Thursday & Friday for dinner. The rest of the week its just breakfast & lunch. Their burger is the best I've had. The fish sandwich, while fried is light as a cloud, flaky & delicious. The prime rib, amazing. Turkey tips YUM. Service is always good and with a smile. Their breakfast is good too, but they really shine at dinner.

Great mom and pop place! I go here any time I visit family back home. This is your typical New England gem. A family small run restaurant that serves amazing home cooking quick and with a smile. The staff here is always nice and they know their regulars. I usually get the fresh fried whole bellied clams, not the healthiest thing in the world, but these are very good. My sister swears by the burger. I've never had it, but she talks so much about it, I guess it will be my choice next time. Breakfast is very good too. They are open early and close early, I think 2 pm except on weekends, win they also serve dinner. This place has a well earned following and they are worth seeking out if you are in the area, I shall return.

Not a bad place! Very spacious. I was in the area with my daughter after a dental cleaning. We were very hungry and found McKay's Breakfast and Lunch. I had the corned beef which was tasty, eggs, and home fries. My daughter had the veggie omelette which was tasty as well and fruit as a side (strawberry/bananas). Very good. I would come here again. The only thing I would say is, do not sit near the door/entry way. A couple came in and forgot to close the door behind them so you could feel the cold air coming in (so rude). Anyway, aside from that seems like a good spot to try. Next time I will try their pancakes/waffles...oh! and the waitress's service was excellent...she was on time and kept checking on us...great service!

Best BLT around, we come here just about weekly. Busy on the weekends. I usually don't order the breakfasts, but those that I'm with do and are always pleased. Friendly wait staff. Food always arrives in a reasonable amount of time. On street parking.

Fish smells and tastes of chemicals. Reminiscent of the smell produced by a nursing home kitchen. Fish sandwich $8.95. Soda bread was good but didn't taste like Irish bread as it know it. Raisins but no carroway seeds. Would try food here again but I would avoid eating here on Fridays or at any time they might be serving fish.

Absolutely love this place! The pancakes are the best here and they have amazing breakfast sandwiches and home fries. The staff are always friendly and know exactly what they're talking about. It's a bit crowded and cramped but I think they're expanding soon. But, it is definitely worth the crowd and a little short wait if you're there on a weekend. Love it!

This place was alright. Could be better, could be worse. I'll give it another shot someday. I should've ordered something different, I probably would've been more satisfied.

Somehow, after all these years of driving by this place and seeing how popular it is, we never went in here, so today we did. The decor is exactly what I do NOT like in breakfast places, even though it is common, too brightly -lit, and claustrophobic. The hash, eggs, toast and home fries were $8.50 They make the hash there, it was good. Everything arrived quickly and hot. Eggs were right on the button , "over medium". Waitress Patricia was ultra efficient. There were some "Quincy local color" type older guys in there nursing newspapers and coffees....I vaguely recognized the, not sure from where. So it is a Robert 3 Star, ie we would come back, not in any great hurry, but no complaints.

Great portions for great price! Waitress was very accommodating to my requests and small order changes. Definitely be prepared for a wait but if in the mood for a big simple, breakfast than the wait is worth it.

The lobster bisque is the best I've ever had. They serve some of the best breakfast is the in the area too! Great staff, portions and value.
