    Grabbed a bite here with a friend the other night while we were catching up with each other. We both ordered the Jalepeño Pretzel. Seriously delicious. Service was fast and attentive, but I did feel like we got "the look" for ordering waters to start. We wound up both getting strawberry margaritas and chatting for a bit. I could tell that we were the guy's last table and he was ready to go home, so we did cut it a little shorter than I would have liked to stay. We tipped extra because I felt bad about making him stay.

    We decided to go in over the weekend. We sat at the bar upstairs and had food and drinks. This was the first time we have sat upstairs we have eaten downstairs before. It was nice up there. The drinks were good and so was the food. The jalapeno pretzel is always a good app. I did not realize they had pool tables upstairs. We stayed around after our food for another drink and played a few games of pool.

    I am surprised to see all the poor reviews about Sam's! Sam Diego's is my fiance's and my place! If we can't decide to go somewhere, we always go to Sam's. The environment is so interesting, there is always something to look at. The building is an old fire station so the architecture is so pretty. The servers and staff are great! I think the food is great, the Sam Caesar Salad with chicken is amazing, garlic caesar dressing with marinated grilled chicken so good. The beef enchilada's are also very good. My fiance usually gets a custom burrito (which some servers may say they can't do custom, but they can) which he always thinks is good. They give you complementary tortilla chips and salsa. And you need to finish you time at Sam's with their Fried Ice Cream! The best dessert you will ever have!

    The food itself isn't that great. Average American-Mexican I'd say. But the free chips and salsa are yummy and addicting. And I highly recommend the margaritas.

    Better off eating at Taco Bell. I surmise this place is probably American-owned. Definitely not authentic Mexican cuisine. Atmosphere and drinks are okay.

    Food itself pretty tasteless. Sauce made up for it. Waitress was sweet and helpful. Decor rocked! TOO LOUD COUNTRY MUSIC RUINED IT FOR US... we'd have stayed longer. Once they played actual mexican music and I thought we'd stick around but then it was only for a birthday party... the waitress quipped when I told her why we were leaving.. I guess I just drown it out. Might be back. WILL sit outside.

    Decent mexican american. I had the pollo jack sandwich minus the jack cheese. The chicken is grilled with a lime flavor on it and its served with chipotle mayonnaise. It was delicious. The cornbread is really tasty too. The service was a little delayed at times and the chips and salsa do not taste house-made at all.

    Amazing! Just walked in from an afternoon of shopping, sat outside and only expected 'good Mexican' it was great! Amazing service, very friendly! Don't forget to go inside and check out the view though. An old fire station! Gorgeous!

    Great atmosphere inside and out. Great staff, helpful and friendly. Impressed with the drinks as well. Only disappointment for me was the food. The salsa was runny and the tacos were quite bland. Still had a great time though.

    I went with low expectations which were not exceeded. Went with cowworkers for dinner. Margaritas and chips got us off to a nice start. Salsas are okay. But it was downhill from there. Tacos, enchiladas, rellenos all have a bland stodginess (or is it a stodgy blandness?) about them. refried beans are pasty and dull. I had better mexican food out of the microwave in college. Service was decent. Decor is more western than mexican compared to other typical mexican chains.

    The worst Mexican food on the planet. I would rather eat at Taco Bell. Our waitress was slow and had to flag down another waitress for a drink. As I am writing this I am thinking about walking out because I can't even pay my bill she is so absent. Kids meals are awful my kids would not even eat them and they eat anything. Steer clear. Yuck

    Nice place with friendly staff. I had the enchiladas verdes which were quite tasty. Kids like their options and their dishes. Fun trivia games going on in the bar upstairs--by the sound of things.

    Wish there was a rating lower than one star. I went to Sam Diego's with my wife and our children. The resteraunt had a nice interior, and the hostess was pleasant enough. We were seated and having a great day when I had the displeasure of encountering our waitress. I'm not a negative person, and this is my first yelp review. Our waitress was so nasty I actually felt the need to start a yelp account. She came up to our table and took out a leather book and there was a good five long seconds of silence. No introduction, no questions, no words. I started by placing my drink order followed my my wife and our three kids. It was awkward to say the least. My son had the odassidy to ask for his chocolate milk in a "big boy cup" and she scowled at him and said "no". His mood changed from upbeat to down quickly. There was a man standing behind her without a uniform for seemingly no reason, and without another word they both left. My wife apologized to my four year old son that the waitress wouldn't let him have a big boy cup (or treat him kindly). It wasn't so much the lack of words but the scowling and bad vibes we received from her. The man without a uniform came back with our drinks (I assume he was a manager or something). He was very kind and asked us how our day was. I asked him about the waitress and he couldn't tell us much (he was apparently new) expept that her name was Melissa. Anyways I started to give the man our order and he said he would get our waitress to do it. (Joy). She came back with more silence and spoke briefly and with a very negitive uncomfortable downtone. She took our menus and our son started to cry. She came back later with our food and my son was still crying and she rolled her eyes at him and let out an audible sigh. We finished our food and left, our son still crying. At this point our waitress had kind of put a damper on our nice day, but nothing to write a bad review about. Later we asked our son why he was still crying and he said that this waitress had grabbed my wife's menu out of his hands forcefully and actually hit him in the face with it in the process. This woman gave us horrible service, acted annoyed with us from the moment we got there, made us feel like burdens, and actually hit my four year old son in the face with a menu and rolled his eyes later because he was crying. I'm sorry but if even one server is this abhorrent it reflects badly on the entire establishment. For God's sakes there was a manager standing RIGHT BEHIND HER and he didn't intervine in any way. I don't know why they would hire someone like that to begin with, but really. Recognize that she's rude and nasty and terminate her. By far the worst server I have ever had in my life; a true horror story. By the way: the food was mediocre, not bad but way too over priced. Shame one bad server at a place could drive out a family for life, but my son seems genuinely afraid to go back. Whatever you do, I beg you, avoid Sam Diego's in Plymouth.

    It's places like Sam Diego's that make me think I should always listen to what other users say on Yelp. This place probably had the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Both burritos my girlfriend and I had were terrible. We actually felt angry for eating the food after we left. The waitress was really sweet, but the food was real bad. Plymouth has some great places to dine, this just isn't one of them.

    I met up with some old college friends here on Friday night this past weekend and had a great experience! There were 5 of us and we each had a beer in our hand within the first 3 minutes of being seated. We had a lot of catching up to do and old stories to reminisce over, most of which involved beer or alcohol of some sort so this was an important aspect of our evening together. I love jalapeño poppers but didn't see them anywhere on the menu. When I asked our waitress Melissa if maybe I just wasn't seeing them she said the restaurant didn't carry them but suggested the Poppin' Red Hots described on the menu as "Red Jalapeno Peppers stuffed with Cream Cheese then deep-fried in a spicy, crunchy coating. Chipotle Sour Cream for dippin'." It was a perfect substitute for what I was looking for and an excellent recommendation. At the end of our experience the waitress asked if we wanted separate checks and happily split them for us. I grew up on the cape and frequented the Hyannis location of this restaurant as a kid but have avoided it as an adult because of the slacking service in recent years. This location has definitely improved my opinion of Sam Diego's in it's entirety and I really am looking forward to returning to the Plymouth location!

    The restaurant is in the old firehouse in downtown Plymouth. Visiting, I am reminded of the building's history and a time not too long ago when opening eating establishments in historic buildings were the rage (think 1980s). The place looks nice and airy with exposed brick and light woods on 2 floors. The place was very clean too. The staff friendly and polite. Unfortunately, as others have posted the service was great but the food was at best average. My server was very kind and made sure the food was prepared as I requested. Yet, the meal really was not memorable. My last visit was last summer and my prior visit was over 2 decades earlier! Pondering the restaurant's longevity they must do something right, lol. While I enjoy eating in historic surroundings as a Plymouth visitor I find too many restaurants in the area which I prefer.

    I've never written reviews on yelp before but the appalling service I received here made me want to warn others off of this place. A group of six of us came in on a Sunday night, so of course it was empty and proceeded to order non-alcoholic drinks and start playing pool. Without asking, the startlingly rude bartender assumed we were under 21 and told us "if the actual adults come in you need to leave", we ignored it and about 5 minutes later we heard her loudly announce to her coworker how glad she was that "someone her own age had saved her". About fifteen minutes more of her glaring and we were getting ready to leave as another group came in, again to play pool, and she told us all we needed to "get out now so that actual adults can play" and she doesn't lose her liquor license. Since when is it a crime for adults to order non-alcoholic drinks at a bar? Never mind the fact that the place was empty besides us. Sam Diego's needs to work on customer service training and explain to their staff that the point is to bring in customers, not kick them all out.

    Atmosphere is the best thing about the place. Food is not very good, in fact it usually smells funny, and the guacamole is very very flavorless. Good for getting Texas Teas in the boot, but otherwise stay the hell away, so many better options, but sadly this place gets lots of tourists because it looks cool.

    Such a cute building! The ambiance and decor are very cute. This place definitely has value - very substanstial lunch specials for a bargain...$6.25. The food however leaves a bit to be desired. Everything just needs more flavor. The salsa is sweet and a bit watery - no spice at all. The spanish rice was sweet and underseasoned. Everything needed salt. My burrito was dry and bland. It needed onion, cilantro, chile, cumin, lime, excitement!!! The service was slow, especially since there was a grand total of 3 tables while we dined and no less than 4 servers. If you are looking for something cheap, basic, and filling than this spot will do ya! They have a very large menu with loads of options.

    Wow did that suck! First, it would be nice if the hostess and waitresses smiled and seemed happy there were customers. The hostess literally looked disappointed that we came in! I've been here before and have had DREAMS about the margaritas, today I sent it back...undrinkable! Food barely passed as Mexican cuisine..chef should learn about spices! According to other reviews, this is a completely different (better?) place at night...but I probably still won't return here again.

    We went to Sam's and my wife had gotten the Cobb salad. The lettuce was brown, the chicken was dry, and the bacon was cold and stale. We alerted the server, but even before my wife could get it out, the server said the lettuce is brown right? They were nice enough to take it off the bill. Food here has severely gone down hill.

    The Boyfriend and I spent the day in Plymouth yesterday sightseeing and I knew the food would be horrible but it was such a beautiful day and the weather was amazing, we wanted to sit outside and NOT pay a fortune for a late lunch. I BEG OF YOU NOT TO EAT HERE!!!! Sit outside and enjoy the wonderful weather and drink. But don't eat here. I am Half Mexican and a 2nd generation Southern Californian. Seriously, I know Mexican food and this is horrible Americanized Mexican food. If you love Taco Bell, then please eat here. The chips and salsa are store bought in large quantities and cans obviously. Come on, pouring jarred nacho cheese sauce does not a burrito make. My $9.99 Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos were edible ony because the fish was good and cooked perfectly. But they weren't worth more than $4.99 because they didn't come with anything else. Neither did The Boyfriend's horrible mess of a burrito. The Boyfriend and I don't drink alcohol so unfortunately we had nothing to blot the bad food!

    The food here just didn't taste very good. We went on a friday night and it wasn't terribly busy, but the waitress was very, very slow. We were served our appetizers and then had to wait 15 minutes for napkins/silverware before we could eat the appetizers. I had to order a drink several times before it showed, and it was just a diet coke! There are much, much better mexican places around for the same prices.

    I want this place to be better, b/c the building is an interesting restored fire station. I've been here a few times, and it's not getting better. food leaves lots to be desired. staff is ok. comfortable environment. maybe a bit pretentious

    I'm sorry to say it but this place sucks. The service sucks, the food sucks, the only good thing is the booze. Last time my parents and I went there we were stuck upstairs in a corner even though the whole restaurant was empty, my dad ordered fajitas and when it come out it was chicken... and tortillas. That's it. My dad asked about the peppers and onion and any other vegetable that normally comes with a fajita and she said "no, this is authentic mexican" which leads me to think that she is full of crap, now I am french canadian so I know nothing about mexican culture but why is it that every single other restaurant gives you vegetables when you get fajitas? The waitress just did not handle it properly and looked at us like we were idiots for assuming peppers and onions came with the fajitas. At least give us some lettuce or salsa or something!! I wont be going back here ever.

    If you like surly "bartenders" and forgetful, inattentive service than this is the place to go. Sure the patio is decent but in 92 degree weather is it really worth waiting 15 - 20 minutes for a drink and salsa for the meal that you requested nearly 30 minutes prior. If your food gets cold in that kind of heat then you know the service sucks. Also, wedgies aren't appetizing to be subjected to during your meal, someone should inform the wait staff of this fact.

    After a few days of camping at a local state park, we decided to try Sam Diego's for lunch before leaving Plymouth, MA. The exterior of the building and the posted menu seemed to promise the kitschy Tex Mex fun we were looking for. Inside was a different story. Essentially, the delicious sounding menu didn't accurately describe the very bland food (how do you make Pineapple Chicken Quesadillas tasteless?) and the wacky decor was the most exciting part compared to the the dull and humorless (although polite and attentive) wait staff. Also, a weird soundtrack of pastoral symphonic music paired with low lit dining areas during the day didn't seem to make much of any sense for a place billing itself as a fun, Tex Mex style saloon. Not terrible but not worth a second visit.

    I just finished eating at this place and it was SO BAD that I have to leave a review. Right now. There is absolutely nothing good about this place. Mind you, I grew up in California and know what Mexican food should taste like. The chips you get when you sit down are clearly bag chips that they heated. The salsa is clearly from a can. I ordered a burrito because the fajita was "not the sizzling kind..." probably as a way to save money. The burrito was supposed to be shredded chicken with sour cream and guacamole, red sauce on top with melted cheese and refried beans on the side. When the burrito came I tore the burrito apart looking for the guacamole and sour cream to save me from the awful taste of CANNED shredded chicken in a tortilla doused in canned red sauce. Even the refried beans couldn't save it because they were also from a can. And I'm not talking about high quality canned... the refried beans I get from Trader Joes is superior to what I had here. And the pico de gallo is just diced tomatoes marketed as "pico de gallo." My boyfriend had a chicken quesidilla that wasn't bad (cubed grilled chicken and cheese)... but how can you mess that up? By the time it cooled down though you could tell the sour cream was of very poor quality. Like the cheap almost expired stuff in a value Sysco pack. Also I had a margarita and it didn't taste like it had a lick of alcohol. Because I ate 3 bites of my meal and walked out of the restaurant and drove home, I KNOW there was no alcohol in it... I'm a lightweight. Overall, terrible experience. Don't step foot in there if you expect to have anything that resembles Mexican food or even tex-mex. My boyfriend called my burrito "cafeteria food." Service was terrible, especially considering the fact that the restaurant was empty and we saw 7 servers walking around the restaurant. We spent an hour and a half there clearly miserable. They were unreceptive to the fact that the drink was clearly virgin. In the end it was too bad that I didn't have enough cash to throw down and scramble out as fast as possible. Overall: tastes like a clever combination of what you may find after an elementary school's canned food drive. I would have been much more satisfied having dinner standing at the Trader Joe's sample section

    The food here isn't very good. If this was the pilgrim's first taste of Mexican food it's obvious why they didn't migrate to warmer southern weather. Instead, half of them died over the course of the first winter in the new world. Anyways, the shredded beef tasted suspiciously like cat food. Probably some of the best cat food I've ever had if that's a consolation for Sam. The caesar salad was fine. I like how they didn't even attempt to cut up the lettuce from the original stalks. I can do that part. Margaritas were good. The environment was fun and family friendly. My kid could scream for as long as she wanted.

    The place looks massive from the outside with the outdoor seating and all, but I don't know if during day time, they didn't care as much for the customers, or it was the bartender, who was not trained properly. My drink had almost nothing in common with a mojito. The chicken ceaser salad was good though. The guacamole wasn't good at all. There was no s cilantro in it. The avocado was just smashed, few slices of tomatoes and that was about it. No spices at all. And there you go here is you guacamole. I like Mexican food, don't get me wrong, but they need to improve few things. the place is awesome, but the food and drinks no so much. I will consider going somewhere else when in the area.

    Yick! This place just gets worse. I have been a few times and will not be going back. There are no redeeming qualities beyond its great location. I had a margarita and it was undrinkable (and that's something, because I love margaritas)! Really disappointing. Do yourself. Favor and stay away. Cancun's in Kingston is much more authentic and far better.

    Decided to have lunch here because the name made us laugh. I had a "black and white burrito", which consists of chicken, black beans, pepper jack cheese, and spanish rice. It was quite good, cooked just right and melted in my mouth. Wife had the "pueblo quesadilla", which was a chicken quesadilla with black bean & corn salsa. It was a large serving and she enjoyed it. The place was a little loud, due to a large children's group being there; since Plymouth is a tourist town, this isn't surprising--we saw at least 2 or 3 separate large groups just walking around. Since many of the restaurants are on the smaller side, Sam Diego's is likely one of the few that could accomodate such a large gathering. Aside from the noise--which ended once the group left halfway through our meal--it had pleasing ambience, excellent service, and nice food.

    We had a good experience when we got dinner last night. Food was good, decent portions. The drinks were strong. I wasn't a huge fan of my raspberry dacquari, didn't really taste like raspberry. service by Kelsea was good. atmosphere was fun and interesting. We'll be back!

    On the up side, nice waitress, interesting atmosphere in a converted fire house, complimentary chips and decent salsa to go with them. Now for the down side. As another reviewer stated, the mahi mahi fish tacos are terrible, overcooked and tasteless. And I loves me some fish tacos, but not at Sam Diegos. They were like eating soft wooden batons. Gross. Totally overcooked, dry and sad. My companion got a chicken and cheese burrito, and pronounced it acceptable. I had a draft beer so I can't tell you how the drinks are, but we sat outside surrounded by people who seemed mighty pleased with their drinks. That's the news on that place; I won't go back.

    It is what it is--a chain-type (I have no idea if there are more than one Sam Diego's, but you know the type) Tex-Mex joint with a better atmosphere than food. Not saying the food isn't good, but it's nothing fancy . Never had a bad time here, although it tends to be full of Townies playing pool and being general Yah-Doods. I probably wouldn't come here unless I was meeting up with a group of friends (like on Wednesday for margarita night).

    After a day at the beach, we knew we wanted a nice cold margarita and some good Mexican food. Had never been here before and it was the perfect place. We sat outside and it was great; I normally am not a fan of sitting outside, but this area was well shaded and very nice. The margaritas were wonderful and hit the spot! We really enjoyed out food and it made a great day perfect. I will certainly be back!

    It's a chain Mexican restaurant. I'm not sure exactly what I have to offer. Chilis? TGIF? Uno? Along those lines as for type of food you'll receive, type of service you'll receive and type of clientele you'll encounter. I rate this against other Restaurant Chains, not the Best of Boston, people. It's alright. Just alright. I'm really not going to elaborate more than that.

    I really gotta stop believing the recommendations in travel guides when it comes to food. I came here a few nights ago for dinner while sightseeing in Plymouth, and was excited to find that Sam Diego's had fish tacos on their menu. Unfortunately, the mahi mahi--a pretty tender fish--was so overcooked that it might as well have been swordfish: dry and completely devoid of any semblance to the tender fish it should have been. The chipotle mayo and pico de gallo together made the tacos too spicy to taste the fish (which I would've wanted to do, if it weren't so overcooked). Also, as I'm looking at Sam Diego's menu online now...whatever happened to my side of black beans and guacamole? I got cheated! My boyfriend got a tamale with pork. The tamale was made "lazily," as in...there was only ground corn (ie, tamale) on the top side of the corn husk, and pork on the bottom, as opposed to a real tamale, which envelopes the filling on all sides. I don't like tamales in general, and this particular one did nothing to change my mind; the pork was finely shredded, but there was something about the texture that screamed "overcooked" rather than "slow-cooked" or "falling off the bone." On the upside, the complimentary chips and salsa weren't bad. The salsa was a little too watery for me, rather than chunky, but at least the chips tasted fresh, not overly salty--like they were homemade rather than store-bought. In the end, this was more of a place to eat because we were hungry, and given a choice, I don't think we'll ever come back. I'd rather go somewhere else a little more expensive, a little farther, for better food than this.

    One of the best places in Plymouth. Best fried ice cream. Gringo Burger is awesome, great burritos. I hate olives and they have no problem leaving them off an order. Nice selection of drinks. I have not had a bad meal here.

    I noticed some people gave this restaurant a 4-5 star review, not quite sure why or what your comparing this to. This place was terrible from the drinks to the food. I sent back a burrito that was under "MICROWAVED AND CHILLY IN THE MIDDLE" with spoiled ROTTEN tomatoes on the side. NEVER EVER GOING BACK. If I wanted to have microwaved food I could have stayed at home and nuked much better home made left overs.

    I go to Sam Diego's on a semi-regular basis with a friend who lives out that way whenever we get together. It's her favorite, but as far as "Mexican" food goes, it's low on my list. The margaritas are great and honestly, the drinks are really the point when I go, so I can't complain too much, and I will continue to go. But their food and service is typically pretty below average. I went recently in the afternoon, at 4pm exactly, and couldn't order off the lunch menu, which was unfortunate. My friend and I both got frozen margaritas (watermelon for her, raspberry for me)-- no complaints there. Our server was incredibly timid (I don't know how else to describe her) and she seemed almost scared to approach our table and ask us about food. We basically had to call her over to get her to take our order. I guess she was trying to be polite and not bother us when we were talking but... I'd rather have her come over and ask than hide around the corner. We had our chips and salsa and got some guacamole. Chips were good, salsa was ok, guacamole was the worst I've ever had. Don't even bother ordering it... No flavor at all. For our meals my friend got the Rio Bravo steak tacos. She said the steak was great, but basically just picked that out of the tacos. I got the enchilada plate, and picked shredded chicken and shredded beef for my two choices. The plate came out with the cheese burnt on the edges. The shredded beef was ok, the chicken had no flavor whatsoever. Stuffing a tortilla with unseasoned meat isn't really a good meal. I am not going to hate on this place, because I will be back. If you want a good place in Plymouth to drink and chat with friends... Sam Diego's is it. If you want a good meal, I would suggest going elsewhere.

    I don't quite understand some of the reviews that vilify Sam Diego's because "this isn't authentic Mexican". Maybe it's just me. Maybe it's my simple tastes. Whatever. But I know what it is when I see a gorgeous restaurant, good service, expansive menu, very good value, and food that was tasty and plentiful. We had dinner here on Saturday night, and I was really impressed by how visually stunning this restaurant is. It's located in an old firehouse with a gorgeous round wooden staircase right in the center (check out Kent T.'s and Jen G.'s excellent photos). There's a lot of exposed brick, some colored accent lights, and a lot of eclectic stuff on the walls. Very nice. Our server was fine, the salsa and chips were very good. In fact, the chips were really good, they were fresh, warm, not oily at all, and perfectly salted. We tried two different sangrias - red for $6.95 and tropical for $7.95. They were great, and when I looked at the size of the pour, the "liquid to ice" factor, and the price -they were pretty good values. Our meal was Pork Quesadillas ($12.35), Mazatlam Mahi mahi lettuce wraps ($11.95), and a side of special rice ($3.95). My fish was great -two nice slabs of mahi served with a barbecue sauce, some shredded lettuce, a big juicy hot pepper, and a serving of guacamole. And the rice was stellar too - a perfect mix of cheese, diced veggies, perfect rice, and a generous portion of diced chorizo. Bottom line? For under $50 we had a very enjoyable dinner in a pretty place with a great atmosphere and good service. That $50 included two drinks and leftovers. I didn't miss the authenticity at all.

    I have no idea why this place has such a low rating and I'm about the toughest critic there is when it comes to Mexican food being from California. First, this place makes their own tortillas, which is VERY RARE in this neck of the woods. Their chips are about the best I've had in New England and that's saying a lot. I can only judge the fish tacos as both myself and my companion had them. They were HUGE and filled with a very large piece of fresh, grilled Mahi Mahi, two tasty sauces that my companion raved about and incredibly fresh veggies. The service also was great and the building is a very charming old firehouse. Ignore the other reviewers and go for the chips/salsa and fish tacos alone and you will be very happy!!!!

    The only place that looks inviting from the outside with a sidewalk cafe and a buzz on the street. Decor looks great and the drinks were huge. The food though......I'm not sold. I don't know whether it was the salsa or the chicken but it just did not agree with me and I felt terrible after eating. Thought about giving less stars but in fairness, it could have been me not agreeing with Mexican food. My wife didn't feel well either next day. So 2 stars for decor and drinks. All else, 0.

    The bartenders were very friendly. The 40 year-old named Erica had a good sense of humor about her age after claiming she was 23. #inside joke. Anyway, the food was OK. I like the free tortilla chips. The jalepneno pretzel app is OK (but if stuffed pretzels are your thing then check out Driftwood restaurant down the street). My slider special was 'meh' because 2 of the sliders were pretty weak. (I liked the pulled pork though). Also, they have great onion rings....because it's a Mexican restaurant after all. Anyway, this place has looked pretty much the same for decades. If they change it at all I think the world will spin off it's axis. But at the very least, it's a restaurant in Plymouth center you can count on for a decent time.

    Pretty interior, large space. I was expecting more based off the look and feel but wasnt that impressed. The margaritas were big and pretty good. Although thats expected from a mexican joint. Got quesadillas that were good but rice was starchy and bland. A lot of much better mexican spot imo. Dont think id return. Not worth the drive.

    Walking by, my dad and I were drawn to the large menu outside backed by the pretty building (which I've gathered from others is an old firehouse). We went I'm and the inside is just as beautiful as the outside. We both had seasonal beers on tap and burgers. Beers were cold and tasty. My dad ate the gringo cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and I had the Outlaw burger with onion rings. Can honestly say it's one of the tastiest burgers I've had!! Great service, value, and atmosphere, would definitely eat there again.

    chips and salsa were great. Our waitress was timid and kind of rude. I am allergic to tomatoes and asked for a plain cheese quesadilla but it came out with tomatoes and peppers and I told my waitress I was allergic to tomatoes and could not eat it and she walked away from the table and didn't do anything about it?? definitely don't need to make a trip back. nothing like the sam dingos in Hyannis

    Wow I'm full, maybe a little buZZED. There was pee on the seat in the bathroom. Everything else was amazing, our server was on point. This place should have more than 2.5 stars. Yay. Solid parrot/cockatoo painting in the center back section.

    Sam Diego's has a tremendous Mexican/American menu, two floors of dining, two full bars, fun staff. Their Chicken Fajita Casadia is incredible.Fresh hot nachos and home made salsa is a great way to start. The building itself is one of the most impressive buildings in America's Hometown. Built in what was the Fire Station One, the incredibly beautiful woodwork is a must see.

    Went here on a double date, great service huge menu! They have a variety of quesadillas which you don't find, and several were vegetarian. I got the mushroom and spinach quesadilla and another group member order the enchiladas. Decent prices. Would have liked better chips with the guacamole.

    We had a nice time here for dinner and the food was good. Sam Diego's is like so many Tex-Mex places east of the Rockies. It has the flavors down, but there's just something missing. This is not a bad thing, it's just doesn't seem genuine if you live in the southwest. One example is their Quesadillas which overloaded with some sort of nondescript yellow cheese, with no Cilantro, or Pico de Gallo. It was garnished with fresh Cole Slaw. Eesch! So given these short comings, why the Three Stars? Well, the food was in fact "A-Okay" in Yelp-ease, though we have had better (Two Stars). I ordered the 8 oz. Outlaw Burger which came with "Chipotle Mayo, melted Habanero Jack Cheese, crisp Bacon, Caramelized Onions and Roasted Red Peppers. Served with Beer Battered Onion Rings and cole slaw" for $10.99 and was very good. My only request is that management change out those Sysco Service Chips and Salsa.

    I sat downstairs for lunch at the bar. We had a mid 20s blonde bartender that came out with my food which came with a complementary 12 inch hair. I pulled it out and put it on the ground and she said did you just get my floor dirty. I was blown away by her disrespectful response. She also claimed that they make their chips in the basement. Avoid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Avoid this place whatever you do. The margaritas have zero alcohol in them and the food tastes like something you could get out of a gas station food stand. Waitresses are rude and very slow. Seriously awful and not worth a penny of your money or minute of your time.

    Place isn't bad if you aren't expecting anything AUTHENTIC! When ordering Burritos, Enchiladas...basically anything with Monterey Jack or mozzarella... Expect the can of Cheese Wiz to squirt its contents into a pasty flap of semi cooked tortilla with a ramekin of watered down sour cream to accompany it. If served with salsa, expect it to be as watered down as well! Almost as if the Plymouth Fire department practices spraying down five alarm fires with NO regard for kitchen ingredients! I'm done!

    Beautiful interior, wonderful staff, but unfortunately the food was probably the worst Mexican food I have ever had in my life. It's been seven hours, and I still can't get the memory out of my head. It will take some time. Husband had some kind of beef quesadilla and I had chicken tacos - the meat in both items tasted as if it'd been cooking in a crock pot for about a year in a bath of artificial meat flavoring. The salsa tasted like canned tomatoes. It's sad, because the staff were wonderful, helpful, cheerful - and now I know why she kept suggesting I add cheese or sour cream or ANYTHING to my order - and the interior really is quite beautiful. Maybe we should have started with a few margs... We ended up here accidentally after wandering in the rain trying to find our first choice - which we did find, on our way back down 3A. Live and learn - we are moving out to the area soon, and this is one place we can check off of our "check it out" list forever. :(

    Had a reservation last night with good friends and I've never before had a bad meal or service I'd complain about here. Well last night was a game changer, our waitress was nice but had ZERO personality, the food and drinks were okay at best. Sad because this used to be my go to place but with there being so many other great options for food in Plymouth I likely won't be back for some time.

    I've dined here many times and always approached the place as simply average. There are far better Mexican restaurants around but sometimes you just want to unwind in a nice atmosphere (which the place has) and have a drink and some food. The food is rather bland in my opinion. Thank God for Chulula hot sauce on the table. They do offer chips and salsa upon being seated and the salsa is pretty good. I usually hold on to it to add to my meal. As I said, the food seems bland but I've worked my way through the menu and found an item or two that have become my go to items. Last visit, I explicitly requested to my server that they hold the beans on my burrito. It took longer than usual for our food to come out and when it finally did, I discovered beans in my food. An abundance of beans. Our server never returned and finally I decided to try and eat around the beans but it was unenjoyable after all. That was disappointing all around. As I mentioned, the atmosphere and decor is nice. They have outdoor seating as well, which is very nice. At the right time of day, anyway. I might give this place one more try when I'm in the area, but I'm not excited by Sam Diego's the way I once was.

    Ordered a frozen flavored margarita which was terrible and had to be sent back. The chips and salsa were promptly brought out but the salsa was little more than tomato sauce. I had a shredded chicken taco which was lacking flavor on all fronts. I also had a BBQ pulled pork taco which was actually good and is the only reason this review is two stars and not one. Over all a very disappointing meal.

    Sam Diego's you've gone downhill. My husband and I used to go here fairly often with friends and it had been a while so on New Year Day we decided to take a drive to Plymouth. Service was friendly and attentive, but slow. Drinks took a long time. The waitress told us the bartender kept disappearing. Um, OK. I was drinking margaritas, which were delicious as always. My husband started with a draft beer, I don't remember which, but it was a craft one. It tasted watered down and a bit like chlorine to him. Not cool. He switched to margaritas. The complimentary chips and salsa were good. We started with guacamole and a cheese crisp. The guac was bland and had that dark green like that made us think it had been sitting around for a day or two. The cheese crisp was very greasy, but what do expect from a fried tortilla loaded with cheese? I had the dueling enchiladas. The chicken enchilada was dry and bland. Now the cheese and onion enchilada was molten goo deliciousness, as always. It is probably one of the most unhealthy things on the menu, but so good. It also came with rice and beans. My husband got a steak. I don't remember which one. He thought it was OK. It came with sweet potato fries, which he loved and vegetable, which were cold. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with three stars instead of two because it was New Year's Day and they may have been off their game a bit. This place is gorgeous inside though. If you can block out some of the tacky Mexican decor you really appreciate the woodwork, staircase, exposed brick walls, etc. It's an old converted fire station. There is another Sam Diego's in Hyannis that we went to over the summer. We had a better food experience there.

    A favorite!! We always eat here when we visit Plymouth it makes a great day antiquing and seeing the downtown sites. Never had a bad time, food is always great. Best Mexican food around there's one in Hyannis too!

    I am really only giving this place 2 stars because it was the most quiet restaurant where my friends and I could hear each other speak over dinner. The food was not good and the drinks were just as bad. I will not be returning as I believe I would have had a better experience had I gone to Chilis.

    Long time Yelp reader, though I've never had the urge to sign up to actually review anything before. Tonight has changed that. My wife used to come here every Monday night for karaoke (Plymouth native). Being up for the holidays, we thought we'd go out with her friends...what a mistake. Three things: - A burrito with cheese and salsa on top is not a burrito. That's an enchilada. - When the karaoke DJ has to launch into a vulgar tirade to urge people to "not piss in the f**king sinks", it's a sign that you need to either cut people off... - ...but when the women are matching it with, according to my wife, "shredded pads in the middle of the floor and a strong stench of (feces)", it's possibly time to pull karaoke as a whole. Unbelievable.

    We went here last Saturday on our scooter ride. It was a nice hot day so I wanted to sit outside but unfortunately they weren't able to accommodate our request (not enough tables to pull together to seat 5 people since they were busy). Bummer but I get it. Free chips y salsa yes! However the salsa is not that good, way too tomato tasting (more like Italian than say salsa). Also our food took FOREVER to come out (from when we sat down to when we were served it had been an hour) and we went through I think 3 chip baskets (we kept having to ask the waitress for more chips and salsa, though she should have offered up front since the food took so long). We were ravishing. For such a HUGE menu I was disappointed to see a very limited vegetarian section. The only veggie items really were a few veggie burritos, salads, and side items like rice and beans. Though I appreciate they have dedicated vegetarian rice and beans, they should have more options on their menu. They could easily have vegetarian fajitas, enchiladas, veggie burger, etc. I got the vegetarian burrito - vegan (no cheese and no sour cream) that came with a side of rice and guacamole but the burrito was mostly flavorless black beans and a few chunks of zucchini. Thanks for all the protein but I would have liked more vegetables. The guacamole was pretty flavorless too and the rice was bland. Others at our table weren't thrilled about their dishes either, and one customer had his order messed up 2 times (waitress thought he said "bean burrito" but he actually said "beef burrito" and pointed to it on the menu). She was very apologetic though. I also noticed that our dishes had been sitting under that heater for quiet a while - you can see the sauce starting to dry up on the edges of our plates. Perhaps that's why it took so long to get our order - it was sitting waiting to be brought out for a while. I got a pomegranate frozen margarita that was not that great. Tequila and flavor were ok, but the blended ice was weak. It was more like bigger chunks of ice (think cheap icy dessert you get at the county fair kind of ice) than properly blended smooth ice for a drink. This caused a big separation between the ice and the liquid. My friend got a margarita with Grand Marnier and it was neat how they put the Grand Marnier as a shot in an inside out lime - pretty cool! Lunch specials, the lunch specials are decent - the burrito was huge and with rice and guac was only $7. That was a great deal - just wish it had more flavor. There were other things we said that the waitress didn't hear us properly on or didn't hear us at all (like more salsa, more water, etc.) I think she had a hearing problem. All the guys at my table were obsessed with the cute hostess wearing the dress, every time she walked by their heads turned. They were still talking about her later that night. So this place would be a good option late at night for snacks and drinks - it's absolutely gorgeous inside (an old fire station) with incredible wood work and paintings. But for quality food, find another spot down the street.

    One of my absolute favorite places to eat. The staff is always wonderful and the decor is always entertaining. I usually get a chimichanga or burrito, both are completely satisfying. Of course, I get extra queso on the side. Never have to wait an extended period of time. My favorite restaurant!
