The Lobster Hut is one of my favorites. They got a melt in your mouth seafood platter for two for about $25 plus drinks. Just go and bring a good appetite as they feed well. You'll get a tray with your order, and then seat yourself inside or outside on the dock. Enjoy the sites and sounds of a real fishing village. Go for a whale watch or walk it off with a stroll alone Water street with plenty to do, ice cream, penny candy, souvenirs, checkout the BS-Rock and Mayflower. 8/22/2015 Been coming back for many years and thank God it was open today. Had the best Fisherman's platter for two, with a whole clams and drink it came to about $15 each and worth every cent. Thanks LH. John

Pretty good. Got the fried haddock and a summer shandy. Food came out quickly and was hot. Enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the sun set. Go there if you want something a step above fastfood.

Have been going to the Lobster Hut for about 20 years. It is a 2 hour drive to get there and we are NEVER disappointed. Their seafood platter for two is to die for! Whole belly Fried clams are perfectly golden and always fresh, NEVER "clammy". Highly recommend a stop there.

Ate there last night with my 2 brothers. Clams, Scallops and Oysters. All were done to perfection and delicious. This place in very informal and highly recommended.

When I lived in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, there were many times that I would schedule a 3-day weekend simply for the purpose of driving the 800 kms (500 miles) just for a plate of clams and one (ok, maybe three) cups of lobster bisque. Everything here was delicious. It had to be, because with gas and an oil change, my meal would typically end up costing me $150 - and it was worth every penny.

Yep, no waiters, no white table cloths, no fine dining here. However, this is seaside pier/fried food at its best. There's a big menu, you order at the counter, receive a ticket, find a table, grab napkins, plastic utensils, and wait for the staff to call your number. Once you receive your food, have at it! It was cold when we went there for dinner, but we felt as if we were experiencing New England in the middle of summer. The calamari pieces were enormous (see the picture), the lobster roll was quite tasty, and my fried clam roll was piled with whole fried clams. My arteries may not have thanked me afterwards, but my stomach and my palette were exceptionally satiated.

I am giving this place 2 stars mainly for the ingenuity of coming up with a recipe for lobster bisque that has no visible traces of lobster in it. It tasted like heavy cream and starch. Their lobster roll was also average at best. It was pretty bland and didn't seem very fresh. I've had better lobster rolls at D'Angelo's. This place is a clear tourist trap and I fell for it. I won't be coming back.

Location can not be beat, right on the water, right downtown. This is a cafeteria style restaurant, order your food at counter, get your number, find seating and wait to be called. There is outdoor seating with a covered section as well as indoor seating. I am not a fan at all of fried food which makes up a large part of the menu, so I can not comment on that. The food I have had there ranges from average to pretty good, nothing special, good prices, and you can bring your dogs on the patio which is a plus.

Loved this place! The seafood was fried perfectly and served quickly. The fries were the best I've tasted, nice and hot! Lobster Bisque was also very good here. The outdoor seating is nice when its warm out.

I love this place. It's not anywhere you'd go for a special occasion, sit down dinner, however, It's a great place where you can relax in their outside seating area, enjoying a seaside view while eating some pretty good fried seafood. I love the clams. Their side orders actually give a lot for the price. Their smalls are more like a regular sized portion for a number of other restaurants. I always have to either split it or bring half home. The last time I was there, my husband and I spent $20 total for three drinks, small side orders of onion rings and clam strips that absolutely stuffed both of us.

This place is very delicious .. I have been going there for 35 years. Fried whole clams is so good along with pilaf rice.. I highly recommend this place. Food is very expensive but worth it.

What can I say. Been coming here since I was a kid. Whenever we're in MA, we always hit the hut. No frills, straight forward fried and some broiled seafood. Get a nice draft beer and enjoy the views of the harbor. Our dog love the outdoor seating too. But please don't feed the seagulls. ;-)

If you love fried seafood, this is the place to be. Quite an extensive menu, consisting heavily of fried seafood. They have a good selection of other items, however, including some steamed/broiled seafood and burgers. I ordered a whole bellied clam roll and was pleasantly surprised. My roll came heaped with fried clams, far more than could fit on the roll. The batter was nice and light, not overwhelming, leaving the taste to the clams. I tend to try the same item at many seafood places, and I have to say this is one of the better batters that I have had. I had some of the fried scallops and shrimp as well. Next time I go, I will stick with the fried shrimp and cocktail sauce. As great as my clam roll was (which was great), the shrimp and cocktail sauce was to die for. The atmosphere was very nice as well. You order at a counter then seat yourself. Considering, the dining room was quite well kept. Ample room at the tables, and a good amount of seating. I had to take the rating down a bit due to some of the seating in the back. It was near the bathroom, and that portion of the room smelled like it. If they get that fixed, I'm sure my rating will go up in the summer. Lobster Hut is located right on the water, and I hear only great things about the outdoor experience.

Ahh the Lobster hut, it feels like you've been around forever. I've been coming here since I was a kid and usually make a visit at least once a year or for take out. I stopped in last weekend and was pleasantly surprised that quality hasn't dropped and the prices are still reasonable. I ordered a fried shrimp platter and I got a nice large platter of not overly fried and piping hot shrimp with rice in about 6 minutes. The Lobster Hut has always been pretty quick. As for price it's affordable-around $11 I believe, but they have a lunch special for $7.95. I like the location on the water, the outdoor seating and the quick service even when crowded. It's a serve yourself affair, but that's fine with me. No five star review here because they only offer two small awful beers, the cashiers and servers have surly attitudes, and they don't ever seem to have enough parking when busy.

This used to be a pretty good restaurant I went for the clams mostly but they have been bad (small) for three years or so. But mostly the customer service is absolutely horrible. They must be family or something how else can this be going on for so long is besides me. Go anywhere but there and you will be better off trust me

Went here to get a quick meal while driving a friend to the airport. Service is friendly and your food comes out pretty fast. It's also in a quaint area by the water. Prices are inexpensive, but be prepared for heavy, fried food.

$10 for a lobster roll that has more roll than lobster. I'd rather eat McDonald's than waste my money here.

I heart the Lobster Hut. I was born and raised on the South Shore so I have been eating here ever since I can remember. Mmmmm artery-clogging fried seafood--what can be better? This is most definitely a casual seafood shack--formica tables, counter service, paper plates. But I have never had a bad meal here, in my 30-something years of living. In particular, I recommend the clam strips, the scallops, the fish and chips, the popcorn shrimp, and the clam chowder. I really like the clam chowder--it's not too think, and has plenty of clams. The outdoor seating is nice in the summer months. The only reason I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 is the mob scene of a parking lot it can be, and it's so far from me. Not so much the restaurant's fault on either count (the parking lot is a public lot for the waterfront area, with the exception of a few spaces designated especially for the restaurant), but hey, I'm allowed to be picky like that.

  • Sean V.

Decent food for the price. Everything is deep fried which is fine, just not my favorite. The lobster bisque was very rich and creamy, which was great, but I felt like there was a cream cheese-ish taste overpowering the lobster. The deep fried batter smothered the seafood in a couple of instances, but overall, for the price, this place is A-OK.

    (3)
  • Dennis H.

i was hoping to have something besides deep fried lobster but the special of lobster and shrimp (both fried) were quite good. pleasantly pleased with the quick service and very fresh seafood.

I have been eating at the Lobster Hut in Plymouth for 20 years. While it's not a fancy place by any means, the seafood is awesome and always fresh. Everything is great there but my favorite is the broiled haddock plate. If you are looking for great seafood at reasonable prices this is a great pick.

You won't need to dress up fancy to eat at the Lobster Hut. The food is pretty good, the place is always busy (at least in the summer when all the tourists are around) but the atmosphere is pretty dull. You can eat inside (which seems like a hospital caf setting with all the talking of customers and washed out decor) or outside alongside the harbor. Either way it's going to be somewhat crowded. When you walk in the doors, beware! That's where the line's usually start at the counter and often get in the way of getting in or out of the restaurant (unless you leave from the side door). The menu seems to stretch endlessly above the counter, but you can always grab a to-go menu to look at while you're in line. I usually get the fried haddock and french fries. My boyfriend get's the fried squid. The food isn't anything to write home about but as far as I am concerned, it's good and tasty. In my experience the fish has never tasted fishy and the fried squid has never been chewy--guess I got lucky! To save money, since it is kind of expensive, we usually just get cups with water and ice for free (they have a little water and ice machine after the counter are). We usually have good luck finding a seat and then we just eat and head out. Overall it's just a nice little place to stop by when we are walking around the Plymouth Waterfront! Oh, one last thing, I used my debit card there once and they double charged me. I think it was the bank's fault and everything was corrected but just keep an eye on your statement later on!

Have been coming here since i was little and loved it. Food is great, can be pricey depending on season and seafood prices but never outrageous. the plates are big too, i have to share a plate of clam strips and even then it may not get finished. Can get crowded and over run in the summer with Plymouth tourism, but anywhere in the area is going to be in the summer.

Lobster Hut is located in a central location at the Town Wharf (and is within short walking distance to other popular tourist destinations such as the Plymouth Rock and Mayflower II). There are a few free parking spaces at the lot reserved for restaurant customers, but they get filled very quickly. If the restaurant parking runs out, just park in the pre-pay spaces, since they cost only 25 cents for every 30 minutes. I thought that the lobster salad rolls ($9.50) here are pretty good for the price. They probably sell a lot of it here, so you know that the lobster would taste fresh. I wasn't completely full after chowing down the lobster roll, so I ordered the luncheon special #1 clam strips with fries and cole slaw ($7.95) as well. The fried clam strips were slightly too doughy but still very tasty. A big plus was that we got to enjoy our food while sitting at their outdoor patio, overlooking the bay. Bottom Line: For us, Lobster Hut was a nice start for our trip to Plymouth.

Ok, this is a real casual place...not bad for a quick seafood meal...nothing to rave about. You can eat outside or in...Outside is the Harbour...chowdas are tasty...do not get steamed lobster here...it is rubbery like it was cooked ahead and warmed up or sitting in hot water all day...ugh!!

You let me down, fellow Yelpers. Nobody mentioned that this isn't a "sit-down" restaurant - you order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. I had one chance in Plymouth to experience real New England seafood and went here. The food was great, but the atmosphere was terrible. The restaurant is dirty, and you have to endure the loud, obnoxious arguments coming from behind the counter in thick Boston accents. Also, your solace is interuppted constantly by the shouting of order numbers. The view of the ocean is nice from the deck, and the food is pretty good. But I wanted to relax and have someone refill my beer as I munched great seafood. Instead, I was told "WE HAVE MICKEY OR BUD" by the rude counter dweller, and was then informed that the Michelob was empty. Bummer.

It is slightly overwhelming to go down to the waterfront in Plymouth on a Saturday night and randomly pick a good place for seafood. That was where my group found ourselves a few weeks back. Luckily, we scouted out our options and made a decision based on a gut instinct that was right. This place has no frills. It served 5 dishes of really good seafood. From fried clams to lobster. Everything we ordered, we loved. There is no waiter service, so it can be a bit confusing when walking in the door. But don't be afraid, step up to the counter and order. We found a table right away and didn't have to wait long for our food. I've quickly glanced over the other reviews and I just didn't agree with the disgruntled reviewers. I would say this is not just a "touristy" place, but also a local one. The people we met there were folks that lived in the town and had religiously supported the establishment for 20+ years.

Best seafood in Plymouth. Don't bother with any other restaurant next door get the real deal. Crisp light battered seafood and fair prices.

Visited Sunday 9/20/09. Referred by a local (born in Plymouth), who recommended the claim chowder. Must have confused potato with clam - there were lots of the former, none of the latter in 2 bowls. Tasted like clam... Onion rings a bit limp, thin slices. Lobster roll small, but at least the meat was fresh. "Large" iced tea almost needed a magnifying glass to find on the tray. I am born & raised in Massachusetts, and I have definitely had much, much better clam shack food.

  • Yelp Z.

Ordered a combo for two here (to share!) and was disappointed on a few levels. Fish smelled and tasted fishy. It wasn't haddock..not sure what it was. Fish should not smell THAT fishy. Clam strips rubbery and large with gross batter that could barely hold on TO the clam. A little better was the fried shrimp and scallops. Although, I've tasted better at Kelly's or almost any Cape seafood establishment. I think Lobster Hut is one of those townie/local places that they grow up eating, and therefore appreciate the crappy batter. I say this because my fiance was raving over everything and I know it's not that great! It's his family favorite for the summer....yuck. My favorite comment of his is that the food "doesn't make you sick" (like other fried foods will send you running) I will say though for a cold rainy day in early May, the place was packed to capacity for lunch. They must have something good. Maybe I'll give it another try. They had unique items like fried lobster tail which sounds good to me, but it won't be my first choice the next time I'm in Plymouth. I just think that if you are eating any seafood en route to the Cape there is NO excuse for it to be mediocre to bad. AND they forgot my tartar sauce. Not a big deal...but when I went to the counter to ask for one...surly waitstaff. AND the tartar is made with dill and NO relish which is another gross factor. This year parking is also 50 cents per half hour and they are ticketing. Make sure you pay before you sit down and remember to pay again if it takes too long!

Looking for a place for 13 people during high season is not easy. After whale watching, we went to Lobster Hut. They did a great job of getting our food. Had something for everyone. Plenty of food, reasonable price and pretty fast. Nice that it was so close.

    (4)
  • Tai Z.

It didn't look casual to me on the outside, but it's serve yourself. My lobster bisque was too thick and kinda blah, not much meat in it either. My friend hated her fried fish. The cashier was rude, one of those people who didn't say a thing back when I said "thank you."

  • Yishai B.

Lobster Hut in Plymouth center seems to be kind of a no-brainer if it's a summer evening and you want some ocean-fried goodness. The location is great, just out of the thick of things and right on the wharf (next to the jetty) so you can enjoy the view and the salt air while eating. Every time I've been here there has been a slight wait, maybe 15 minutes tops. This restaurant is home to one of my absolute (former) favorites in treif foods: fried clams. The last time I went I recall the price being around $11 for a huge plate piled high with them, plus a basket of fries. The clams are sufficiently battered and chewy on the inside, but not too big that you're chewing for five minutes. Their hamburgers are pretty decent, and of course the fish and chips is good. As for the lobster? You may be surprised but I've no idea, I've never eaten lobster in my life and I don't plan on it. But if I was going to try it, I'd probably try it here first. Good place to bring family and friends for seafood by the water.

    (4)
  • Sonya H.

A good place to get a little fried love. No pretensions, no table service, no ridiculous prices. But what you do get is good fried seafood, and we enjoyed it during our stop in Plymouth. It was especially fun sitting outside by the water. Give it a try.

    (4)
  • Ika M.

3.50$ for a tasty hamburger and 27$ for two lobsters isn't all that bad for the coin purse. Besides, the area is lovely, the sea breeze is calming, and service seems to be incredibly fast even when there's been a line. We visited right as they were closing and there was no pressure on us to hurry up and leave.

    (4)
  • Kathleen P.

It's hopping. Good food, good prices...just be prepared to be served on paper plates. Not fine dining, but don't let the plastic utensils distract you from the beautiful view of the ocean.

I relied on Yelp reviews to pick a place for lunch in Plymouth. The three of us shared a seafood platter for two and a popcorn shrimp platter. We LOVED our meals. Fresh, tender seafood and delicious fries, even the coleslaw was a winner. We opted to eat inside, but the pavilion outside was right on the water. The cafeteria style restaurant was extremely clean and the staff was very pleasant. Definitely a place to return to again.

My wife and I have gone here for years, went on 3/7 for the first time since they reopened. Yikes, prices have gone up big time. We had the scallop pate and swordfish nugget plate. Scallops were terrible, fully 1/4 were not nice white scallops, these were yellow and rubbery. The swordfish nuggets were small and were not nice and fresh tasting at all, believe it was frozen fish cut up. Fries were not good either. Only good thing was the slaw, however, at close to $40.00 for good slaw and terrible everything else they will not be getting any of my money. This is a waste of money and terrible food. Another good restaurant gone BAD big time.

The best thing about Lobster Hut is the location. The food is average, and a bit overpriced. The seating outside is nice except, when a Seagull steals your French fries.

DO NOT ORDER LOBSTER BISQUE FROM HERE. It's just cream. Really. My closest friends refer to me sometimes as the "garbage disposal" because I eat everything. Seriously. I will eat leftovers from the fridge that is over two weeks old. True story. But what I did not eat, after ordering it, is the lobster bisque from here. So disappointed. The NE clam chowder was just meh. Better than the bisque but not by all that much. The best thing we ordered was the "steamers" which is steamed clams.

I used to recommend Lobster Hut to my friends and family, and always enjoyed eating there, but I've come to the conclusion that I'll no longer be eating here. The food has gotten very expensive and is not nearly as good as it was years ago. It used to be a place that catered to both locals and tourists, but it appears they now cater simply to the tourists that they know won't be returning. Looks like I need to find another seafood restaurant on Plymouth Harbor.

  • Sarah A.

I went there Friday night with a friend for the first time. I ordered the lobster roll and a garden salad. I thought the prices were very reasonable for a touristy area. My lobster roll was good had a nice amount of meat in it with a little mayo, which was perfect. The garden salad was a decent size and what you was expect from a clam shack type place. Also a plus is there is a nice view of the water from the dinning room. I would go back and eat there again some time.

love. this. place! decided to come down to Plymouth with some friends for a fun day trip. My friend recommended we try this place since she and her family eat here all the time. It's sort of the off season for seafood right now, but the prices were great and the seafood was delicious. I got a fisherman's platter for two, sadly they dont make it for one. for $24.99 or something like that. killer price if you ask me. The staff are friendly and efficient, always a plus in my book. this place is an order and seat yourself deal and there are plenty of places to sit, inside and out. I would most definately make the trip south of boston anytime to stop here :)

We were looking for a good , local seafood place. Lobster Hut is on the water and there is lots of Cape ambience, which I really like. Plus, I think most of the customers were locals and that is always a good sign. The lady at the counter was very patient with my infuriatingly indecisive manner. I just couldn't decide what to pick. There were so many seafood options. I opted for the crab salad and my husband got fish and chips. My son got lobster Mac and cheese. I have to give props to the fish and chips. They were fantastic. Mine was ok as was the lobster. I don't think they prepared it poorly, it is just my personal preference. Taking into consideration the price, it was ok. But I would still recommend it.

I grew up eating here and make a point to get there as often as I can when I am in Plymouth. I love the shrimp, my folks love the lobster bisque soup and broiled haddock. Over the decades, have never had a bad meal here. I like sitting outside to enjoy the gorgeous view of Plymouth Harbor when it's not crowded. The lines here can be long, but we never wait in them. We always call ahead and place out order whether we are eating in or taking out. I would imagine the new pay for parking is a hassle for tourists, but since we have a town sticker, we don't need to deal with that either. There's a good variety of seafood, it tastes good, the staff is pleasant and capable and the place has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Can't ask for more.

    (5)
  • Phil S.

It was good. Plenty of room and seats, and still packs a crowd. I had the (haddock) fish and chips, and a lobster roll. Love the fish and chips, clowslaw was really great, but not a fan of the lobster roll (not sure it the lobster was that fresh). BUT with that said.. I may try it again next time I'm in Plymouth.

It's a hut all right. Basically fried everything. Hubby got lobster Mac n cheese and said lots of lobster in it. He liked it. I got the fish n chips. Skimpy on the serving of fish. Everything served on styrofoam plates. Not impressed with that bc of environment.

  • Tina F.

Went here are the suggestion of a local in town. It was this place or Woods. The food was okay overall. Hubby rated his clam platter an 8 1/2 out of 10 stars. It had been a while since he had clams in the New England area where he grew up so, in hindsight, he could've just been happy to have his New England clams again. Either way, he seemed to really enjoy them and wished he had more. My son, once again, ordered a bacon cheeseburger and scarfed it up. He wished the meat patty was thicker but overall, he liked it. I had the broiled haddock, it was good but not something to write home about. Very thin piece of fish. Stepdaughter ordered the fried haddock and said it was very good. One thing we really didn't like at all was the lobster bisque. It was way too sweet tasting. Next time we are in town, we will try Wood's.

Ate twice at the Lobster Hut over the last week. Had the Lobster Roll, the 'Bigger' Lobster Roll and the Chowdah. Overall, I would recommend you save a few bucks if you're in the market for Lobster rolls, by eating at the Lobster Hut rather than some of the other places in the area, mainly the Cabbyshack. But eat the Chowdah at Cabbyshack. Nothing in the area holds a candle to it. I had to use some Tabasco to liven up the chowdah at LH.

My friend and I stopped along here on our way home from Boston, it was a good choice on our part. Plymouth has a beautifil view and this restaurant's seating gives you a prime view if you sit outside. The view is so calming and nice. The restaurant isnt all too much to look at and def isnt anything fancy. You go in, place your order at the counter, pick up your tray of deep fried yummy and have a seat in or out doors. The outdoor area is covered so theres shade and cover from weather. I'd imagine this is a prime spot to be at sunset looking out over the jetti and at the sandbar islands. We ordered the Fried platter for 2 and onion rings, a homeade Iced tea. The portion was rediculously big...and everything was great! It came with clam strips, scallops, shrimp and 2 big pieces of haddock. Im not a fan of haddock at all but this fish was so good here! The shrimp were great as were the clam strips. The clam strips were nice big tender sweet pieces...thats a dish I LOVE and try to have as often as possible...but nothing here at home is this yummy! The onion rings were nice and crispy...beer batter I think. mmm What really took center stage was the scallops. A lot of fast places like this in our state sell you obviously fake scallops but these were def real and EVERYTHING was amazingly fresh. Everything was fried to perfection and the scallops were SO soft, delicate and juicy....just thinking about it is making me feind for more of this wonderful fried food porn. The ice tea was unsweetened, but after some sugar and lemon added it was pretty good. If your in the area and want a nice casual place to sit down and have some quick and indulgent fried eats while looking at an absolutely captivating view of the water this is DEFINITELY your spot! Dont miss out on this goodness...and this view!

  • Nellie H.

This place was awesome! The oil was obviously fresh (our fish and clams were light in color and tasted just like themselves, and not a jumble of fried off). The clams weren't rubbery or overcooked and it was really low key and affordable. I got the clam lunch platter and couldn't finish it all, great portion size...and the slaw was amazing. We went on off season, I could see this place being a madhouse and really annoying if over-packed with people. If you're in Plymouth this place is a must if you want a good helping of fried seafood (even their kids burger was huge and had good quality meat).

  • Nick S.

Pretty standard fare here, with ok food. It was pretty busy for 3 pm on a Saturday. Went with 3 other people; between us we had chowder, lobster roll, fried fish, chicken tenders, fries. Chicken was stringy and overcooked but the fish was good enough. Nice view and clean interior was nice. Prices are steep for the amount of food and quality that you get, and the customer service leaves something to be desired. No refills on a soda after spending 70$? Get real.

We live in Plymouth and have been coming here for years but last week was the last time. The prices are ridiculous. We ordered Seafood Platter for Two and had to pay a $3 surcharge for the whole clams adding up to 28.95. That would have been fine if it wasn't for the fact there were probably 6 very small clams, and a very small amount of shrimp scallops and fish. What there was plenty of was French Fries. Over two thirds of the plate was French Fries. Now I understand why people are going to Cabby Shack and Woods. How disappointing!!!

My husband stopped in Plymouth for lunch on our way to Cape Cod. Lobster Hut was a pretty basic restaurant - order your food at the register and pick it up when it's ready. The part I was most impressed with was the view. There's a fabulous deck area that overlooks the harbor. We both had crab cakes and fries. I thought both were good, but the crab cakes could have used a sauce. If we ever make our way back to Plymouth though, I'd want to try something else.

WOW!!! Great Steamed Lobster with Corn on the Cob for less then $20 for lunch. This is a great place with a great view, walking distance from Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower. Highly recommend this place!

We had the fried lobster & shrimp plate and the lobster Mac & cheese. The flavors were mediocre, the Mac tasted like it was out of the box, with some lobster thrown on top, and the fried lobster & shrimp was just ok. The lobster was a little over cooked. A bit pricey for the quality. Cabby shack across the street is by far the better value.

We went for lunch on a Sunday. Love the patio overlooking the harbor and, of course, the lobster. My dad was ecstatic about his fried whole belly clams and the lobster rolls looked plentiful. I like my lobster straight up, in its shell. And I was not disappointed. The garden salads were surprisingly good (often an after thought at places like that). My dolly liked her fried clam strip kids meal. I wouldn't go at a peak time though - Saturday night the line was snaking out the door.

This spot has the same food as every other location in the area. What it does specialize in is miserable employees that abuse patrons with some self induced power trip. I was giving a hard time because I misplaced my order number. Understandable if I wasn't one of 4 customers in the whole restaurant and the woman harassing me for not having my ticket just watched me order. She was clearly just being mean. If that wasn't enough to warrant a bad yelp review, the elderly gentleman behind me was abused so bad he ended up walking out leaving behind the food he paid for. You know someone is upset when they walk out without the food they paid for. This location was a favorite family destination for lunch, though now we will be finding a new spot where people aren't treated like garbage because some employee needs to power trip while serving fried fish.

Steamers were awesome, scallops were delicious but fish and chips not as awesome. Everyone else was pretty happy with what they ordered. Next time I'm in Plymouth, I know where I'll be eating.

If I can give it no star, I will. Food was bad. Fried clams tasted like steamed mussels rolled in thick greasy soggy undercooked batter. Clam chowder was the worst I've tasted. Fish was fried to dead. We were so hungry after the whale watch ride and made the beeline to the restaurant. We ended up throwing most of the food into the trash. $77 for a seafood platter, lobster n shrimp combo, fried whole clam plate, cup of clam chowder, side of rings and three drinks, I think never again.

The line moves pretty quickly... I had doubts about the quality because of the cafeteria style, however my fears were squashed after the tray was handed over to me. The smell alone was heavenly. The lobster roll was the perfect size (and price) for my snack/late lunch. I highly recommend for a quick bite to eat. :o)

soooo GOOOD! Came here on Monday with a huge huge hungry family and I think these guys deserve some prop. Even with 10 orders of lobster, 12 lobster rolls, and who knows how many fried seafood plates, the guys at Lobster Hut did the job and got the food out in a reasonable amount of time! Food was good but the lobster rolls was a foodgasm....Just the day before I had some rolls from Quincy Market and I am telling you guys, there is nooo comparison. you MUST get lobster rolls from here!! Definitely not a fancy place but super family friendly and DELISH! Though they might want to fix that water dispenser - it's pretty difficult to work... Overall the food was awesome, even with the $800 price tag :D

Have to agree with another reviewer about crabby employees. Actually, it is about half and half. While waiting form our order, I heard a man in the back yell "c'mon sunshine, how about a smile" to a 16 yr old girl who shot daggers back at him. Sorry sunshine, we all have to work at some point. If a grown man who shucks clams all day can manage a smile, you can too! The place is spotless as was the rest rooms. A tough feat at a seaside joint. The steamers and onion rings were good, however, the fish chowder was absolutely awful. It tasted like white water with potatoes and a little piece of cod on the bottom. We visit Duxbury every year and I always try the chowder wherever we go. This was the worst I have ever had. It was like they were trying to make it bad.....yuk! Most of these seaside places take pride in their chowders.....they should be ashamed......

Come by land or sea. Either way you'll leave satisfied. Personally, I like the tasty clam chowder, the onion strings and the fried scallops. Prices are reasonable and the views are just as good as any other restaurant overlooking Plymouth bay. If someone in your party doesn't eat seafood (what!) they can order inexpensive fast food like cheeseburgers and chicken tenders.

The Lobster Hut is a plymouth institution, which has basically stayed the same as long as I can remember. They serve quality food fast and the employees are a close knit family you always see the same faces.yes seafood is expensive everywhere but you can't beat it here

Perfect as usual. Fresh tasting seafood fast service. Don't like fact dogs are allowed on back patio

Was here in June, about 3:30 PM on a weekday, not too crowded, had fried fisherman's platter w/Ipswich Clams, awesome! Esp the Scallops. portions smaller than years gone by, but my cousin still had to help me finish. Back in July, Wednesday nite about 8 PM, same order (but ordered clam strips by mistake), not as good, but it was still good, maybe 3.5 stars; 1st time was def 5 stars!

Decent lobster roll--they get the basic concept, which is not using much beside the lobster and mayo and a little celery for crunch. Fried clams were downright juicy (not greasy!). Fries were a little on the soggy side, though. I liked the covered patio seating.

Had take out on Sunday afternoon - clam and scallop rolls. Had to go back because they forgot to include tartar sauce. The food is average at best and I do not recommend going there. It is also very pricey.

My kids are the fifth generation in our family to carry on the tradition of making regular pilgrimages (haha) to The Lobster Hut in Plymouth. I've been on the west coast for many years but have recently returned home. One of the first things I had to do was visit the Lobster Hut. Had you asked me to rate it years ago, as far as the food goes, it would have been 5 stars, easy. The fried seafood was the best. Clean oil, light, flaky and fresh. Small bellied clams, incredible bisque and chowder, and tiny fried "popcorn" shrimp. The portions were large, and the quality was top notch. As this is a self service restaurant, expect the order takers to be teenagers with no clue about customer service. It's always been that way, and still is. Call it part of the New England charm. Sadly, my most recent experience was not as good as I remember. For one thing, the lobster bisque recipe has either drastically changed, or there was a major screw up in the kitchen. If that's just the way it is now, it's terrible. There used to gobs of meat in it...no more. The base has changed too. My other go to, the popcorn shrimp, are no longer small. What I was served were cocktail sized. They were good, but nothing all that special as they used to be. The rest of my meal was very good, but it seems that some things have changed in the 7 years that I've been away. At least they've managed to take care of the seagull problem on the back patio!

The Lobster Hut is a typical seaside clam shack. They have an extensive menu of seafood, along with hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken sandwiches. On our most recent visit, it was rather busy, but the line moved quickly. The counter person took our order quickly and efficiently. The prices are very reasonable. We got fish and chips, a lobster roll, a side of fries, and two drinks for about $25. Everything was fresh and tasty, especially the fries. The lobster roll was a bit on the small size, but not bad for $10. There is ample seating indoors and out. The dining area was very clean. Overall, this is a great place to eat and we will continue to come back.

I've eaten a lot of lobster in my day and my kids have had a lot of chicken tender and fries in there day. The lobster was okay but nothing special there. The corn with it was terrible. The kids chicken tender and fries were cold and the place was super busy so that seemed odd to us. The food overall was a 3 out of 10. I would never eat there again.

    (2)
  • Solomon C.

I had the steamed lobster and corn chowder here. they were both pretty good. If you're looking for a cheap cafeteria style lobster meal, yeah this is where you go. Lets face it, there's no elegant way to eat lobster so what's wrong with this place?

Love this place! My son and I were dying for fish and chips, but not looking to break the bank. I asked the guy in the bait shop what was good for the money and he recommended it. He was right. Cafeteria style, very fast service and the lady that took my order was really nice and helpful. Batter was flaky/crisp and the fish delicate and moist with plenty of tasty tartar sauce. The fries were good. With a large cole slaw, and 2 cokes added in it came to $22 and change. I didn't get onion rings but I saw an order and wished I had, they looked great, next time for sure.

I wish there was a way to give no stars. This placed SUCKS! The food is severely overpriced, the tables were filthy and the employees were rude and miserable. We order one of the specials listed on the board that boasted "popcorn shrimp, scallops, 2 lobster claws, some kind of fish" comes with fries or rice pilaf & cole slaw and it was $20.95. We also ordered a small order of onion rings, and a chicken Caesar salad. Well when we got it, I was shocked. First, it was served in a small pie tin that was barely the size of a small plate. The fish was nasty, the breading was bland and soggy. There was so much water in the bottom that everything just tasted gross. Second, the cole slaw was in a small container that you would put ketchup in that was about the size of a half dollar. Third, The onion rings we ordered were luke warm and the breading was falling off. The employees were just rude & miserable. There was one older woman who was calling out numbers. When people didn't come running right up(whether they didn't hear the number or because they were elderly & it took them a few minutes) she started yelling in the microphone. I had to go back up because my chicken caesar salad had no chicken. I told her politely that I was missing my chicken, there was no "Ooops sorry about that" or "Let me take care of that for you" She just yanked the plate out of my hand & told the cook to put chicken on it. The tables were so dirty we had to walk around to find the one that was the least dirty and then wipe it off with some wipes I had in my pocketbook. I went into a store after this horrible experience, was talking to a shop owner, I mentioned that we had just eaten there and she said "Don't eat there, they stink. You should've gone to *****" If the locals tell you not to eat there, then there's probably a reason. We will never go back there.

I have been going there for over 30 years. The food is generally very good, but lately I have been getting upset with a few things. I eat out a lot, and the number of times I have complained to a restaurant about small portions has been twice. Both of those times were at Lobster Hut. Today we spent close to $100. I even got my 8 year old a $19 Lobster dish - so we spend money there. My $13 piece of fish came with 109 grams of rice (yes, I weighed it). That is about 1/2 a cup. Even a USDA standard portion (which we all know are small) is 1 cup of rice. Since this was to go, I could not complain, but the first time it happened, I did complain, and they took a defensive approach and said it was normal - implying I was the one being unreasonable. Had they just said "Oh, sorry - I will give you more and let them know to be more careful" I would have been fine. I count calories and this meal was only about 350. Even a restaurant that does not serve large portions should be more like 700 calories. Seriously - 350 calories - one would have to eat six of those a day to have a full day's food.

Shared the big plate of fried food ("Fisherman's platter?") with my wife and it was AWESOME. Abundant seafood and not greasy at all! How'd they do that? Our favorite was the shrimp. I would totally give five stars except my wife might have gotten food poison from a bad clam and threw up all night after lunch. Hey, I ate the same food and I was fine! So... 5 stars for me, 1 star for my wife... but I'm the yelper so I'm still a fan!

Had scallops and while belly clams that were bland and only 6 scallops and a dozen clams but the paper plate was half full if fries and 3x what it was worth. Mom got a little piece if haddock with pilaf and slaw and it cost us $33.67 for this only ok food. They had twin Lobstah on the menu for $29,95 - WHAT???? Yes, $30 for 2 little Lobstah that we get in the burbs for $3 each. This place is way overpriced for suck mediocre food,

A casual Sunday lunch in sunny Plymouth led my boyfriend and I to the Lobster Hut. Now, I've been warned that this venue is mighty...touristy. It seems to be busy all the time, and their food is good if you're craving something fried, fried, and fried. They also have quick service and a large outdoor patio. On our visit, we each had a cup of clam chowder. The BF ordered a cheeseburger and I had the "side" order of whole belly clams...FOR $17!! soo expensive. MY eyes popped out at the cashier, and I'm pretty sure I turned into a crabby customer the second she announced the price. I couldn't believe it, but she informed me that clams are really expensive at this time, and that was the price they were selling for....UGH. Our total ended up being around $31 after drinks, but I was still fuming on the inside about the pricey clams. However, I have to admit that they were pretty delicious, and the side order was a large bit of food. The clam chowder and the clams hit the spot, and I almost regretted giving the lady unnecessary attitude about something she has no control over... Will I be back? Probably, but not until next summer. The Lobster Hut has some great things going for it: outdoor seating, yummy seafood, and convenience (in terms of time, and in some cases, money).

I am grudgingly giving this place 2 stars because my husband said the batter-fried fish plate was decent enough for a revisit. My food was awful, though-- I had the chicken tenders plate and the meat was clearly frozen bulk-food, the "rice pilaf" was Rice-A-Roni without nary a single additional ingredient thrown in to make actual pilaf, and the root beer was watered down. Only the cole slaw was good, and that's tossed onto the tray as an afterthought in a quarter-cup sized condiment tub. In a word: yuck. Next time I'm calling ahead to make reservations at the Blue-Eyed Crab, even if I am all disheveled and less-than-fancy from a day at the beach, because I just can't eat this kind of subpar agrifood anymore.

The food is decent, the staff is UNFRIENDLY, ultimately dropping my stars from a 4 to a 3. The outside deck is lovely, looking out onto the harbor. Stay away from tables with small kids... they feed the birds and the birds will ruin your meal (one actually pooped on our plate -- the bird, not the kid.) The food is decent. The clam chowder is yummy, the breading on the fried seafood is great, it's nice and light, not too greasy. Skip the wine (4.50 for a small plastic cup of crap wine). In general it's a nice place to eat if you take out the staff, the birds and the kids. You could eat inside but every time we've been the inside is FREEZING when it's just "warm" outside. Gives you the old HoJo's feeling.

The Lobster Hut is one of my favorite seafood spots in Massachusetts! Everything is so fresh. I usually always get the clam strips which are hands down the best I've had, but the broiled seafood is great as well. They also have options for non seafood fans as well. The tables are always clean and staff is always friendly. It's not fancy by any means but it's perfect for a quick meal.

The Good We ordered a clam roll "Market" price & lobster salad roll for $11.99 no sides were included. A side order of FF was $4.25! The lobster roll is very small (don't bother) unless you order the "Bigger" $18.95 size the clam roll was better although both were good I wouldn't order these again as individual options. The Bad This is not a sit down and order establishment. You order then wait for your # to be called pickup and hope to find a clean seating area, most places do this however I would have enjoyed sit order format. If your hungry get a combo plate don't bother with individual or side orders, sodas are $1.95 each Ouch! I was still hungry after spending 40$/for two.... Conclusion This is a OK place they move fast and from what I could see the combo plates are the way to go and a better cost effective option.

Really nice view on the back patio, but food was just OK. This spot follows a similar format as other seafood joints in the area-- order at the counter and come back to pick up your food. I liked the casual feeling of Lobster Hut. They also have a massive menu with pretty decent prices. My husband and I shared a broiled seafood platter. It came with lobster claws, broiled shrimp and broiled fish, along with cole slaw and French fries. It was a good amount of food for about $14. Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of this meal. It was just meh. I feel like this is definitely one of those places where people just coming back because they've been coming for generations. Nothing wrong with that, but definitely not recommended for a first time visitor.

The fried clams were sweet, small, tender, and fried to perfection. The fries were good but not as good as the clams. The haddock plate had about 4 oz of excellent broiled fish. The baked potato was truly baked and served with butter snd sour cream. The cole slaw, which also came with the fried clam plate, was above average. Fair pricing. Cheaper than boston or cape cod. Easy lot parking and quick clam shack type service. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating overlooking plymouth habor. Self serve with trays you pick up at yhe counter when they call your number. A family favorite for years.

I would give this place a 3 1/2! I really enjoyed it!!! It was a solid, yummy place. I was heading to the Cape from Boston and decided to stop and get that bowl of chowda that we all crave. The chowda left me wanting. The quality of the clams was good, but overall the broth was a bit boring and bland. I also got the fried scallops and shrimp. Again, they were solid. The quality of the meat was juicy and tender. Cooked perfectly. This was a solid place to get food in Plymouth--but I wouldn't recommend the chowda. This was more of a soupy chowder rather than that famous New England CHOWDA!

Visited Plymouth last summer, so I had to have a lobster roll there. My friend who lives around Plymouth brought us for lunch to Lobster Hut. I ordered a lobster roll and crab cakes. The food was ready in 5 to 10 minutes. What more can I really say though..It. was. DELICIOUS. The roll had a lot of lobster meat, enough to ooze out of the roll when taking a bite! The inside of Lobster Hut has such a home-y atmosphere! It looks traditional, but feels really comfortable. Very nice service. I would recommend and would come back again if I could!

Lobster casserole out of this world. Got at least 6 big pieces of claw meat plus another 5 bog mouthfuls of lobster meat in a great breaded, buttered dish. This is not a fancy sit down restaurant though. Know that going in. you order at the front grab a table and CHOW DOWN. Everything we ordered was fresh and deliscious.

I came here labor day weekend with my family. The fish plates we got were very fresh and delicious. My mom got the fisherman's platter. Her plate was overflowing with food and we all ended up sharing her meal with her. I got the seafood casserole. The dish was a bit small but still delicious. My daughter got the lobster mac and cheese. Although the lobster was juicy and fresh the macaroni was a bit overcooked. The sause used for the macaroni was not a big hit with my daughter. All in all a great meal. I will definitely return next time I am in Plymouth.

Absolute favorite seafood option! I'm sad it doesn't have more stars. My husband and I share the fishermen platter every time we go and it's perfect for two people. The breading they use is out of this world good. We love this place so much.

Waterview: very nice Ambiance: average Service: good Food: average This seemed to be much more of a mass production restaurant than we were expecting. Food was fine but nothing amazing. View was very nice outside but they could certainly do some work.

This is the only seafood place that doesn't make me sick from eating fried food! I have been coming here for a long time and the food is always consistently good... the clam chowder is delicious if you like it on the thinner side and the onion rings are the best!

Let's start with the view because this is the only good news. The view is lovely! For a McDonald chain, this is a reasonable restaurant. For a sea food restaurant- really??? We were 4 adults and 3 kids and ate about half of the menu. It is greasy, all flour coated and the quality of the seafood is questionable. The kids left the Mac and Lobster and the french fries (well they did ate the lobster but the pasta was greasy and half of the plate was bread crumbs. (see picture). The only positive dish was the lobster bisque with enough fish content. The scallops were small, did not look like or tasted like fresh and we ordered it broiled- so no thick coating was there to mask the low quality. The fish and chips looked like a frozen fish.... The belly clams is YAKI. Do not order this plate no matter what. To summarized: We loved the location, we loved the concept (cafeteria) but the food needs to be upgraded. Again, for a McDonald this could have been reasonable.

  • Les N.

$60 for broiled scallops, scallops and shrimp scampi and, crab cakes. The crab cakes were COLD in the middle (not room temp, but cold!) scallops were undercooked and fishy, and the scampi didn't have enough sauce for the penne pasta, so the pasta was dry. For $60 I expected much better.

This is my favorite of the seafood restaurants in Plymouth; it has a large dining room, great selection, is right on the water and the food is consistently excellent. You will have to wait to get a table since it's so popular, especially during the peak season with all the tourists. If you have some time & don't want you leave the downtown area though, it's worth the wait--tables turn over fairly quickly; people usually understand this isn't a "sit & linger" kind of place. And for all the people bitching that "it's too expensive," I have this to say: it's seafood. In a restaurant in the middle of a tourist paradise. On the water. If you're shocked by the prices, you need to get out more. Or just don't go out.

Out of all of the great "Fish Shacks" in Plymouth, We like the Lobster Hut best, for Take out. There is just something a bit sweeter in their batter and their fryers always have fresh oils. Lobster Bisque & Clam Chowder are very good and portions of all of their dinners are very generous. They do have a large family style restaurant. The down side is that if you are looking for an intimate atmosphere, this is not it. It's cafeteria style is not exactly conducive to romance. Try Blue Eyed Crab for a non-traditional meal and a great place to bring a date.

Having been a long time fan of that place next door, it was originally my destination. However, it was a bit warm out today, and that place next door has no air conditioning or outdoor seating. Which brought my family and I to Lobster Hut. My fish sandwich was wonderfully flaky, my wife's fried shrimp had breading that crunched and shrimp that snapped when her teeth sunk into them, fries were wonderfully crisp and everything was served very quickly. Which to be honest with you, on a mid August sunday without a cloud in the sky and a wave of hungry people, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly my food was prepared. The restaurant overall was clean and had adequate seating outdoors. The prices were reasonable and the food noticeably fresh. Even with my shellfish allergy, I wouldn't hesitate to return here.

After our flight in to Massachusetts from Oregon, we met some of my cousins here for dinner. My husband and I each had the lobster roll sandwich and shared an order of fries. It wasn't the best lobster roll I've ever eaten, but it wasn't the worst either. Unfortunately, the dressing was just the right combination of covering the flavor of the lobster meat and not really adding any other element to the sandwich. The proportion of lobster to bun, however was perfect and they didn't waste space on a bunch of fillers like lettuce. My cousins each had the fisherman's platter for two...lesson learned..do as the locals do. The scallops and fried clams I sampled from them brought made right back to my childhood meals with my grandparents on Cape Cod. The scallops were sweet and juicy and the clams melted in your mouth. It is an order off the menu on the wall kind of a place so not a lot of wait staff, but those who they had were kept busy clearing tables and they didn't complain when we were still they, catching up, a half hour after they closed. It was getting dark when we arrived, but I could tell that the view was amazing. Those things combined earned them one of their stars. Were I to go back it would be sharing a fisherman's platter all the way, but the five thousand mile commute might make that take awhile.

Tried Blue Eyed Crab across the street 1st, not very family friendly. Walked across the street and found the Lobster Hut. The whole family was happy! We walked up to the counter, found a table on the patio overlooking the water, and went to pick up our orders by tray. The whole lobster dinner was reasonably priced, my daughter got the lobster Mac and cheese loaded with lobster and my son and I got fried shrimp. All in all it was good and everyone left with a full belly.

I love this place. I make a special trip to the Lobster hut 2x a year when I go to Plymouth. You can't beat this place for food and price. We always sit either outside or indoors close to the window overlooking the harbor. The lobster rolls are made perfectly, without any filler, just a hint of mayo, nice large hunks of lobster and overstuffed nicely into a buttered grilled roll. I also like the clam chowder, a small fills me up and it's a nice consistency, not too thick and not too thin. Flavorful and delicious. Worth the trip for super casual dining.

I can't remember the food because the manager a sea witch of a woman was so rude I couldn't enjoy my meal. She was condescending and shrill to everyone including guests. Was in area on business----so stopped in for dinner... the baked stuffed haddock stuffed with crabmeat.... $15.99... sounded good... Hmmmm until I received it... usually IF IF IF there is crabmeat in the stuffing .. there would be white items in there which is the crab... Hmmmmm NOPE... it was pure stuffing... with NO crab... Yes the haddock was good.... fresh .. and moist.... not big.. but ... I undestand they have to make $$$$ ... so walking out .. I mentioned to the person taking the orders... "I had the stuffed haddock and there was NO crab in it"... she mentioned... "sorry I will mention to the manager".... oh well... the chowder was good.... and the haddock was good.. next time will order the chowder and haddock...

My kind of traditional fried seafood. Had the scallops - they were tasty. Also had a lobster roll - it was good - not too much mayo and no lettuce/fillers. Nice deck to sit out on that overlooks the harbor. Between all that and a cold beer, it was a pretty good night.

The service is good. I had the clam chowder and regular lobster roll. Both were good, but the roll was pricy for the size and how much lobster was in it. I would come back, but prefer Woods down the street.

First thing I noticed was the cleanliness of this place. Stainless steel gleaming. Behind the counter were two ladies about 65 yrs young who were a great help, cheerful and know their seafood. I had the fisherman's platter. Clams, lobster, cod, scallops and Frys. A mound of fried greatness. I started to walk away to wait for my food when I heard someone else's order get called. Corn chowder. Well it's 32 degrees outside. Soup sounds good. An additional 4.95 and I had a bowl to warm md up. This was a fantastic meal. Clams turned out to be my favorite. Only problem was my eyes were bigger than my stomach.

I went here with some friends while visiting Plymouth Rock. We were looking for some seafood and just randomly came across this place. My friends and I each got the lobster roll, which was super awesome. It is on the pricey side for the amount you get (of course this is located in a tourist area, so why wouldn't it be?), but the lobster was really good. What I liked about this place is that it was sort of "fast foodish" in that you don't get table service, but it's kind of like a low budget restaurant, which was perfect for us. Overall, a great place to go if you're looking for a seafood lunch.

Bert, We were there Columbus Day. We were seated outside. There was only one other patron outside and just a handful inside. The waitstaff was very nice. I was also disappointed that drinks were lined up behind the counter marked with the different flavors so they could just grab them and serve them. Hence, a watered down soda. Nice place to sit outside and happy to be able to have our dogs with us. In the future, we will come here for an appetizer and a beer so we can sit and enjoy the scenery with our pups! I didn't mean any offense, just not tasty at all. I raised my review another star because you seem like a conscientious business owner. I did look at the reviews before we came and because you had seemed to respond to the flaws we took a chance. Maybe this will encourage a more proactive fix.

The food was terrible... Lobster roll was tiny and did not taste fresh at all. The scallops had the same problem. Onion rings were sparsely coated. The view was nice, but didn't make up for the food.

Awful. Tiny, overcooked lobstahs. Terrible decor. Bisque tasted like glue. Lots of stinky trash cans spread throughout the outdoor dining area.

Yummy clam strips, lobster roll and chowder. Great view of the harbor. Walk up ordering - pretty fast.

Decent food, prices are pretty good. Building is outdated inside and feels like I'm walking into an early 90s fast food restaurant. The waterfront location is a plus. Where this place suffers is the staff. Everyone I've had to interact with was rude and just didn't care about their job. We've eaten here twice and both times the staff was rude. With all the quality locations around I'd only go here if you were looking for quick food and counter service, no table service. The way the place is set up it seems as if at one time they did have table service.
