Every so often, I am amazed at the extent that Italian cuisine has taken over the fine dining scene in America. I can remember a time when outside of the North End in Boston or North Beach in San Francisco, Italian food relegated to cheap red sauce and watery spaghetti. No longer. Orta is a very good, mid to higher end, gourmet Italian restaurant. The food is not quite up to the Tosca's and Alma Nove's of the world, but it's certainly not priced in that range, and for the area it is on a par with Paparazzi. It's also a little cozier and more relaxed than any of the other locations. My wife and I went on a early Wednesday, for drinks and a snack. There is a bar, but we wanted nothing to do with TV's and "clinking." So, we got a table and found on the menu a wonderful selection of tasty little plates, called piattini. We ordered a few of these along with a delightful Grillo, a medium Sicilian white wine. I don't usually comment on the wine list, but it is nice to find regional wines on the menu. In my opinion, there are two words that should never be put together in the same sentence: Italian and Merlot. The piattini are where Orta excels, and I wish that other restaurants would take their cue. It can be frustrating to see seventeen things on a menu that you'd like to try but are limited to large dishes. The first was the fegatini, tasty crostini covered in a fresh chicken liver mousse, delicate yet rich and well seasoned. They are accompanied by fresh pickled red onions, that were, frankly, perfect. I could see putting them on everything from smoked salmon to ice cream. The suppli are rice balls stuffed not with meat, which our waiter said would make them arancini, but mozzarella and basil. They were good, but could have used another minute of frying. The arborio rice though was perfectly cooked, making me want to try one of their risottos next time. However, the star of the dish was the fresh red sauce. Vibrantly red, not over cooked, it was a nice counter balance to the starch and cheese of the suppli. The shrimp bruschetta were a surprise. Gently sauteed in butter with hints of garlic and fresh diced tomatoes, they were a lot more delicate and tastier than I anticipated. Now, you may roll your eyes, but we did opt for the Kobe beef carpaccio, and it was delicious. The beef was so tender that it did in fact seem to melt in your mouth, almost with the texture of a luxury prosciutto. It was served with streaks of herbed aioli that added little bursts of floral goodness, and a simple salad of arugula dressed in olive oil. Speaking of which, as one other reviewer noted, the oil on the table is sub par and nothing to write home about. It really is below what Orta is trying to do, and I would recommend just having a good bottle of EVOO on hand for waiters to pour when they serve bread. Our waiter would more than up to the task, considering he was attentive, knowledgeable and professional. Otherwise liking our snacks, and having to pick up the kids from practice, we ordered a couple of pizzas takeout for later. Both were great, and reheated well. Of the two, the Tartufo, a white pizza with fontina, mozzarella, spinach and truffle oil was the better. We also liked that Orta uses a real yeast dough and not just flat bread. Tip: order pizzas uncut if you are going to reheat them later. Overall, a very good experience. Provalo!

The service is slow, probably because the staff is still settling in and they've packed the tables in as tight as they can get them. The atmosphere is nice, despite the packing, and as we were seated in one of the high tables in the corner, we didn't feel too crowded. The candelabra in the center of the restaurant is kind of cool and gives a nice glow to the place, though I'm not digging the mixed lighting with the small white fluorescent lamps in the corner. Now to the important part: the food. For starters, we got the prosciutto di parma, some fresh buffalo mozzarella, and the involtini al forno - thinly sliced eggplant rolls stuffed with cheese, breaded and baked. All of it was wonderful. The prosciutto was decent, served with some form of Italian soda bread. You can find better, but you'd have to look hard to do so. The mozzarella was perfectly milky and drizzled with decent olive oil and shreds of basil. I even liked the involtini, and I don't enjoy eggplant. For the main course, we got a blood orange spinach salad with strips of fennel and goat cheese in an orange vinaigrette and the hanger steak, supposedly rubbed with a lemon something marinade. The fennel didn't add anything to the salad; the oranges were the main part of it. The blood oranges were perfect, but the vinaigrette lacked the tang that would have made it great. The steak was perfectly cooked, but it didn't taste like it had been marinated or rubbed with anything. For dessert, we hit some espresso, limoncello, and the flourless chocolate cake. The espresso was decent, as was the limoncello, but the real star of the evening was the cake. Perfectly smooth, with an almost chocolate truffle like texture. Overall, this is definitely a place to check out. The food is tasty, within a standard deviation of delicious. Again the service could have been better and they still need to iron out table placement, but overall I'm quite satisfied. Orto is not amazing, but it's pretty damn good.

I recently came here on a Sunday night at 7 pm with my girlfriend for our 2nd anniversary and was pleasantly surprised. Who would have thought that inside this strip mall was a very nice Italian place? We started with the meatballs that were delicious and covered in a nice tomato sauce and smothered with cheese. She got the fettichinni with aspagarus pesto and was enjoyed by both us us. I had the linguini and clams and it was one of the better ones I have had in a while. That is my go to plate when eating Italian. The wine listwas pretty authentic and not too expensive. I am only giving 4 stars because 5 is almost impossible to find. This place is amazing and I'll definitely come back when I am in the South Shore. I want to try the pizza because it looked delicious. Our waitress was also great such a cute older lady which we both loved.

There aren't very many good dining options on the South Shore so when I heard about Orta I was very excited. The seating is extremely cramped. The waiters can't even move between tables in the center of the dining room To start off, we were given stale bread. We were one of the first parties arriving for Saturday night. This was not a good sign. We ordered the gnocchi, calamari, pate, eggplant and a pizza. The gnocchi was made from semolina. I liked it but very different from what you are used to. My sister did not like at all. The calamari served over field greens was okay. The calamari were a little over cooked and chewy. The pate was just so-so. The eggplant was very good. And the pizza was okay. Overall I was pretty disappointed. I will not go back.

On suggestions of some friends we tried Orta on a Wednesday night just before 7 pm for dinner. We entered the back entrance which enters at the bar. Plenty of seats available at the bar where we usually like to sit anyway. Two plasma TV's to watch the game. Two bartenders on duty and they were very attentive and efficient. The wine list was far from extensive and lacked a Shiraz or Syrah selection. Most of the wines were Italian wines with a few CA wines thrown in. The menu was interesting and we were pleased that it included Piatinni (Small Plates) allowing us to sample some unique offerings. We ordered the Rice Balls (Arancini), the Bruschetta with shrimp and a chopped tomato, olive, egglant, etc. "relish" with crostini. Then a gemelli pasta dish. While waiting we were served bread and "olive" oil, both of which were below average. We go out to eat 5 or more times a week and are experienced restaurant-goers, so we know good bread and good olive oil when we find it. This wasn't it. The bottle that the oil was in was LABELED "extra virgin olive oil" but the server admitted, when asked, that they refill the bottles with an oil "blend." We ASKED for extra virgin olive oil, which she immediately got for us from the kitchen, which made the bread taste quite a bit better. ASK for the extra virgin olive oil. Here's the run down on what we ordered: The rice balls were bland and average at best. The "relish" w/crostini was very good. The bruschetta w/shrimp was excellent. The Gemelli dish was very good and enough to share. Now: Dessert: We tried the flourless chocalate cake but I wanted it with ice cream. This had to be ordered separately, but the ice cream only came as just a small scoop on the same plate as the cake. It was good, not great. BUT when I looked at the bill, I was suprised to find that the chocolate cake was $6.95 and I was charged another $5.95 for the "gelato," making the cost of this simple dessert $12.90!!!!!!!!! I questioned whether the gelato serving was a "full" serving and I was immediately told it was. We both found that hard to believe and certainly this dessert combo was FAR from worth $12.90 (plus 6.25% tax)!!!! The dessert charge & the average nature of the food convinced us this first experience with Orta will be our last. Worth one trip but we won;t be anxious to go back.

My husband & I often go to restaurants. We had eaten probably a half of a dozen of times at Orta. We hadn't been there for at least six months. Boy has that restaurant gone down hill. First off, we had a sweet waitress but other than that the food was subpar. It wasn't busy and the host wanted to seat us in all these odd places until finally we picked a table. The focaccia bread tasted like cheap hamburger rolls and the food was just plain awful. It was served room temperature. We had ordered sparkling water and it was flat. The waitress said the Co2 cartridge was empty. She replenished our drinks but when we got the bill we were charged for four waters. I'm not accustomed to being charged for refills anyways. All in all we decided we would never return and the restaurant probably will close. As we were leaving we chuckled as all these award stickers were plastered on their door.

NEVER GOING BACK HERE AGAIN! Went here for pizza several months back and had a good meal so I thought I'd take my mom here for her birthday. Big Mistake. First of all, I made a reservation. When we arrived, we were seated at a tiny table between the front door and the coat rack. We asked to be moved the hostess annoyingly told us that every other table was reserved, despite the fact that over 50% of the tables were empty and remained empty the whole evening. Service was slow and not friendly. Food and drinks were no way worth the price. My swordfish was ok but my mom's "panko chicken" (which we discovered was their glorified name for chicken parmesan) was horrible. We tried multiple times to get the maître d's attention as he passed by, but were unable to until I got up and physically stood in his path. When we explained to him our less than acceptable experience, all his did was insincerely say "I'm sorry about that" and then walk away. An awful experience. I will never return.

Visited orta for first time last week on our summer vacation because we went with friends and had a total of 6 kids which my wife heard they can make their own pizza that sounded like a good idea.....well it would have been if not for the miserable cook who makes the pizza.... had no patience for the kids what so ever and if they asked for anything besides sauce and cheese he got pissed....during the process another waiter came up and returned a pizza to throw back in oven because it was a little undercooked and he became even more aggravated and took it out on the kids.....maybe good for a date but keep the kids away because the cook hates them!!!!

We arrived to a busy restaurant but well managed! The hostess was very friendly and said there would be a short wait unless we wanted to sit in the bar area on a "high-top". We were willing and she promptly seated us. The atmosphere in the bar area was same as restaurant. Everyone enjoying themselves and the great food. There were at least five specials written on a chalk board behind our table. We were served very tasty artisan crusty bread with dipping oil. My nieces had never enjoyed this but I'm guessing will not ask for oil rather than butter. We had a pasta dish, pizza and roasted chicken. All were served timely, hot and very tasty. Orta's is a restaurant you can enjoy a full three course meal or simply come in for some good wine, pizza and salad. The brick oven presents an appealing aroma of wood burning and the smells from the kitchen feed your appetite for good food. Will be back again soon!

My wife was extremely excited to try Orta after seeing it a few times on the Phantom Gourmet. Once again, we were let down by the Phantom's recommendations. We ordered Pizza Margherita, Pizza Tartufo, Smoked Buffalo Mozzarella Pizza, Suppli al Telefono (rice balls), and the homemade meatballs. Everything in our entire meal was lackluster and seemed to be missing some key flavor components. It wasn't horrible by any stretch, but it wasn't nearly as good as we were expecting. For the price that they charge for basically a personal pizza, I expected them to POP! I would much rather go to a higher quality chain like Bertuccis or Papa Razzi instead.

Stale bread, bland oil is the way they start you off. Then not much better. Meatball appetizer was cold. We saw it sitting on the shelf of the open kitchen for maybe 15 minutes before it was served. Menu is uninspiring, stick with a basic pizza and you should be ok.

have been here a few times. salmon dish--mediocre, portion small. pizza was small and not too much flavor, at home discovered hair cooked into the leftovers so it went into the trash. cod dish tasteless and tiny mashed potato serving was ice cold with overcooked string beans. the atmosphere was nice, but the food is very, very mediocre and too expensive for mediocrity. i don't mind paying but it has to be enjoyable, not cold and bland. not good enough to pay for when you can make it much more delicious at home! we had a party and spent over $300 and they would not let us serve our little birthday cake, kind of a kill joy. there are much better restaurants.

I have dined at Orta on many occasions and usually have great pizza, wine and service! However, I won't be returning for quite some time due to last night's experience. My eight friends and I had a 5:30 reservation. Meals were delivered very quickly and by 8:15 , our group was enjoying the last of our wine and desert when we were informed that others were waiting for our table for a reservation. To be nudged out the door after spending $300 did not set right with any of us. I guess Orta needs to pace reservations better and take into consideration a large group needs more table time to enjoy their meals and each other. The nine of us have dined at other restaurants, and were never told to finish up for the next reservation. We'll make our next reservation elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner. It is the next town over and we had a living social coupon. Everything was excellent. We started with the fried eggplant. They split in half for us, it was a good size. It was absolutely delicious. It was nice and crispy and the goat cheese was a perfect addition. For an entree, I got the sole. It was amazing. Fish cooked perfectly, risotto was a great texture, great flavors. I got it without the cilantro. My boyfriend got the panko crusted chicken (chicken parm). He is quite the chicken parm critic. He said the sauce was great, chicken cooked perfectly and the pasta tasted homemade. The drink menu was great and the service excellent. Our waiter was Stuart. Friendly, good suggestions and very attentive. We will be back for pizza and dessert!

Went here recently on a Saturday night, had reservations for four at 7:00 and was seated promptly. Upon arrival, we learned the pizza oven was being reconstructed. Note on table was dated 9/8 and said construction would last 8-9 days. It was past that time, but we assumed based on the plastic sheeting surrounding a large area of the open kitchen that the construction was not complete. I'm not sure I would have gotten pizza anyway, but it would have been nice if that same message was prominently displayed on their website as well for those viewing the menu ahead of time. Waiter initially visited table with water, bread and took drink orders. We ordered a salad and the arancini as appetizers and our entrees. Apps were delivered in good time. The arancini was not the best I've had, it was mostly rice with very little cheese that hadn't seemed to melt enough...perhaps not cooked enough? Unfortunately, a little over an hour after arriving we still had not received our entrees. The waiter came over once during that time to check drinks and said they should be out shortly. A while later, still nothing and waiter finally communicated they were serving a wedding in their function room and they had just finished plating dinner for 50 and that now they would begin plating all the entrees. It was still another 20 minutes before we saw our entrees. The waiter was definitely avoiding our table during that entire time as he knew it had been a ridiculous amount of time. Our entrees were all good, we had short ribs, the orecchiette and a veal chop special. The quality of the food at that point was irrelevant. Additionally, there was a table of two seated at about the same time that was greeted constantly by a hostess who they seemed to know personally. Needless to say, all three of their courses arrived promptly and before our dinner entrees. It was not a great experience.

My family decided to give Orta a try after a not so great experience there many months ago. We had reservations and were seated promptly. We were seated by the front at a high top table. My 8 year old was with us and a high top is not recommended for a young child. In addition, the tables are a bit small for all the plates, drinks, bread dish, etc. The meal still hadn't arrived after one hour. When it did arrive, it was piping hot. My son needed to wait longer as we tried our best to cool his meal. His meal (chicken parm over pasta) was just ok. My wife had another pasta dish, which she couldn't finish due to the excess spices. My pizza was average at best. The service was decent, yet not terribly attentive. To sum up how we felt about our experience .... My son asked that we not take him to Orta again. I gladly promised I wouldn't.

This review is long overdue. My husband and I have frequented Orta approximately 12 times in the past year. The ambiance, cuisine and service are fabulous (Stewart is one of our favorite servers). It's so hard to find a consistent restaurant that keeps you wanting to come back over and over again...but Orta has continously impressed us. They go the extra mile - for example, when I was pregnant last year, the chef knew that I really enjoyed the tomato soup that was about to be retired from the menu and sent me home with extra to enjoy later! Definately a must to try...

Pretty pumped that this place is so close to my house. My husband went here on a recommendation from a friend, for a weeknight dinner. Super-friendly staff - both the waitress and hostess had recommendations for dinner. We both started with the butternut squash soup (special that night) - came with parmesan-croutons that kind of melted into the steaming hot soup, SO GOOD. Husband had the bolognese - HUGE portion; really flavorful. I had the sole w/ lobster stuffing - wasn't totally what I expected (came on a combo of diced potatoes, peas and corn that I think was referred to as a "ragout" on the menu), but was still tasty (thank you saffron-cream sauce). There is a pizza oven (with seats around it) that intrigues me. The hostess did recommend the drunken mushroom pizza, which I would like to try sometime. Cold winter night - seat by the flame-filled pizza over - glass of wine...pretty sure that's going to have to happen.

I've been coming here for years, and it seems like this place just keeps getting better and better. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants to go for a date night, since it is so close to home. Their drink menu is also very nice. Service is not super fast, but I don't mind that, I like to having time to socialize and have a drink while I'm waiting for my meal. Worth a shot if you are in the area.

I had a Local Amazon discount and went with my mom. She had the Chicken, Broccoli Ziti, and I had the house special Piemontese Swordfish. I don't know what Piemontese is nor do I know how to pronounce it, but the waiter explained that the chef went to this part of Italy and learned how to cook there, and how the Piemontese Swordfish is never taken off the menu because it is so popular. Swordfish happens to be my favorite fish (salmon a close second) so I had to try it. The mashed potatoes that came with it were great. The asparagus was nice too. The Swordfish was OK - no complaints - but I've had better, and I was expecting more after the waiter's spiel. My mom was satisfied with her dish. The sauce wasn't too thick or goopy. and the veggies were fresh. But it could have used more flavor. The waiter did a nice job! Nice place overall.

Had dinner at the bar on a Friday night. No reservation, the place was packed. We waited about 40 minutes. They take a wait list specifically for the bar seats which was perfect so you didn't have to hover and fight for open bar stools. Service was great. Food was great. Huge gluten free menu. We will be back and recommend to other friends on the south shore-- especially those like us who are missing dining-out in Boston since moving!

So..my family went here tonight to celebrate my two sons bdays. My mom is 83 and my kids are 28...a foodie and 17... Plain and picky. My husband and I are 50 and 51. Nonetheless, my mom never likes anywhere we dine. NEVER. She loved everything! I was more happy that she loved it than I was with everyone else's complete satisfaction. It was GREAT!!! Appetizers were top notch...made with TLC. Get a flatbread pizza! Drinks were amazing!! Rosato Sangria was delicious. We all had different entrees.Filet was butter knife tender..shrimp with lobster ravioli had a great fresh flavor and sauce.(moms) The bolognese was straight from Rome. We were in Rome last year and this was just as good if not better. Dessert was amazing! Chocolate molten lava cake..creme brûlée ..tiramisu. Who could ask for anything more. If you want a sure thing...you have to go there! I wrote a long review with detail because it was that amazing!! Enjoy your food experience..it will be well worth it. Don't forget to call and make a reservation. It just makes everything stress free.

We have been wanting to try ORTA for some time now, and we are glad that we finally went this past weekend. We had a reservation, but when we arrived our table wasn't ready. The dining room was full, and the bar in the back of the restaurant was busy too. We had a drink at the bar, which was great thanks to the personable bartender and the great beer and cocktail list. The blueberry and basil martini was "one of the best martinis I've ever had" according to the wife. The hostess visited us at the bar a few times to tell us that our table still wasn't ready due to parties hanging around after their dinners. Although the hostess (both were very sweet and nice) offered us another table in the middle of the dining room, we were comfortable at the bar until our "nook" table was ready. 35 minutes later we sat. Our server was very good - quiet, yet attentive and on point. We ordered our usual caesar salad to start, and it was excellent. Great dressing full of flavor and tasty croutons. We also got an arancini appetizer, which was also delicious in a sweet red sauce. For entrees we got the brick oven sausage and banana pepper pizza, and one of the specials for the night which was a double cut pork chop with roasted potatoes. Both were insanely good. The pizza was full of flavor (something about a brick oven fire and pizza), and the pork chop was amazing. Even more delicious was the zesty mustard sauce that drizzled the plate under the chop. So good. We finished with a baked pecan pie and ice cream and it was also perfect. Again, we were thrilled that after wanting to try this place for so long that it delivered. We already booked for Easter brunch. See you then.

Meh ... Overpriced and undewhelmed. Reservations at 6:30 on Saturday and the place was packed, turning walk-ins away lest they wait till 8:45. Service was great, friendly and attentive without hovering. Menu seemed limited...6 or 7 appetizers/salads, 6 or 7 brick oven pizzas, 6-7 pasta dishes (bolognese, plain aiglio olio spaghetti for $17 yikes!, rigatoni/broccoli/chicken -- is this Bertucci's?, tiny meatballs with spaghetti, and a couple of others), and then 6-7 meat/chicken/fish entrees (pan-fried chicken w mushroom risotto, filet mignon with asparagus & gorgonzola potato cake, short ribs with gnocchi, salmon and a couple of others). Two pieces of focaccia (for 2 people) served with oil before the meal was tasty but oddly were very cold in a couple of spots. Had they been frozen and not finished thawing yet? That's what it seemed like. Pan-fried chicken with wild mushroom risotto for $24 was just okay. Risotto wasn't creamy and it was overly peppery. Chicken was very peppery as well ... wasn't bad tasting just wasn't great tasting either. Uninspired and definitely not notable. No pan juices ... nothing special. Also, this plate needs a vegetable imo. When I go out to dinner, I like to get a little excited about my meal and this was not the case. I easily walked away from half of it. Filet mignon on a gorgonzola potato cake with asparagus ($34) was fine but not great or outstanding. The potato cake didn't have a lot of flavor, didn't taste the gorgonzola really. The three spears of asparagus were quite tasty. The filet itself was good but not great. Dessert... three mini canolis were okay not to die for. The apple crostada with salted caramel ice cream was okay...really a disappointment. The salted caramel ice cream was yummy, though. Unfortunately, the crostada was served at room temperature perhaps even a bit cool. The crust was okay, although I prefer it a little sweeter. The filling was just okay, too. Overall not very flavorful. This was probably bought from a food service company, not made in house. Would've been better it fit had been heated. In the end, everything was okay ... but nothing was really delicious or special. The atmosphere is the best thing going on here and that's probably why it's always packed. Perhaps everything tastes better after a couple of $12 cocktails.

We ordered two pizzas for dinner and when we got home one of the pizzas was burnt so badly that it was in edible. After calling they mailed us a gift certificate to the to use at a later date. Ummm no chance I am giving them any more of my money. $34 bucks for 2 twelve inch pizzas really what a joke.

I visited Orta for the first time a few weeks ago with my boyfriend we sat at the bar right in front of the pizza oven. The ambiance in the restaurant was very nice and moderately loud. We had some wine and ordered the mussels. They were the BEST mussels I have ever had! So delicious. I can't wait to go back and try them for dinner I did observe a few meals coming out that were very plentifully portioned. Our waitress was very helpful and educated on the menu and all of the fresh ingredients they use to prepare it.

My wife and I have been frequenting Orta recently as we have really been digging it as our 'go-to' date night place in the south shore. The menu is well rounded, but I am in love with their arancini appetizer - perfect for two people and just so great. Love it. We also usually like to split a salad - they have one with arugula, Gorgonzola, prosciutto and cranberries that is just right - it's a light and crisp salad but it delivers like a glass of red wine, if that makes sense? A lot of flavor there. My wife loves their braised short rib and gnocchi - I've tasted it and I especially love how light and fluffy the gnocchi come across. I love their bolognese - it has a slight anise (?) background flavor which is interesting but still delicious. Not as heavy as you expect from a traditional bolognese. On our last visit, they had a ribeye special with asparagus and their delightful gnocchi - WOW. That steak was perfect. Super well seasoned, cooked perfectly (I went with medium), and it just all came together so great. I literally wanted to just swipe my fingers across the plate and lick up every bit of flavor. I didn't do it but the thought crossed my mind. Anyway I'm in love with this place. We consistently get excellent food here. Their waitstaff is trained very well too - they know how to be attentive without hovering, and when you're here you feel like they're happy to be hosting you. Their cocktail menu is really good too - They have great combinations that remind me of the bars in South Beach or New York. Good wine list (reasonably priced). Good desserts too, although many times we've been too full to have it. Overall just really solid restaurant. We used to live in the city and loved the restaurant scene - places like Metropolitan Cafe, Grill 23, Franklin Cafe, Hamersley's, Stephanie's were all on the regular list. We have been living in Hanover for almost six years now and I think Orta is right up there with some of the better establishments in Boston. Throw in the price differential and the comfort of not driving all the way into the city - it's a no brainier. If you're on the fence, you should definitely try it and see for yourself. Good luck!

I want to love this place...but the food is just ok. The place has potential but is lacking something like a main course that is a real draw. The swordfish was bland and the pizza filling fell off the crust.. Drinks are great and the bar is friendly. the best thing about this place is the salads always fresh and innovative. Because of the weak main dishes i wont go regularly.

Last night was my first visit to Orta and I was impressed. My friend and I sat at a high table in the bar area, which seemed quieter than the restaurant side. Based on a suggestion from my sister, I ordered the Pear Blossom cocktail and it was delicious! For dinner, I ordered the salmon and asked for it medium-well. It arrived looking undercooked in the middle and I asked the server if it could be cooked more. He saw right away that my fish was not cooked as I had ordered and was happy to make it right. He came back to explain that two salmon dishes were ready at the same time and that the incorrect one had been brought to me. He asked if I would mind waiting 15 minutes for a new dish. I encouraged my friend to eat her meal while I waited. It was not a big deal. Much to our surprise, Orta gave us each a free a drink and dessert to make up for the mix-up. I thought this was incredibly generous since having to wait for a new plate was a minor inconvenience. I've had bigger mishaps happen at other restaurants and have barely received an apology, nevermind some free treats. The salmon was amazing! It was worth the wait! I plan on going back to Orta and look forward to trying their pizza, which looked great.

Shortribs and gnocchi is the best restaurant meal I've had in the area. I haven't yet tried the pizzas, but I'm looking forward to it. This place gets packed on weekends, so show up early or make reservations. The decor is a little stuffy for my taste, but the food is decent. They have a bizarre little deck in the back over the parking lot that I wish they'd open up for bar service, but just a personal gripe. Overall, I'd recommend it to folks in the area.

One of my favorite places on the South Shore if I'm in the mood for slightly fancier fare, great wines and a romantic night out. We have been there twice with my boyfriend and both times were very impressed. They make their own charcuterie plate which is often on the daily special so if they don't mention it and its your kind of thing, ask for it! We had it both times, the meat and cheese selections were different but just as good both times. Pasta has always been perfectly cooked al dente, and the gnocchi were fluffy little pillows, as they should be. All the main courses have been very craftily executed, from delicious sauces, perfectly cooked meats and beautiful plating. The staff is also decently knowledgeable in wine and food parings, which you don't find often in the USA. We also tried the chocolate cake for dessert which was a special, and even though I don't have much of a sweet tooth, there was not a morsel left of it. To be honest, if I could, I would probably eat there every day.

Yup. Went back again and it was great. Beef short rib and gnocchi are unbelievably great. Great service and unpretentious hosts. Love the consistently great food. Keeper

After recently moving to the area wanted to check this place out. We sat by the pizza oven to be close to the kitchen and watch what was happening. For a Monday night, the restaurant was quite full and we would definitely go back. We started with the mussels and yellowfin tuna tartare. both were yummy, but the mussels were my fav. Lots of flavor. My husband had the salmon and I had the short rib - we liked both a lot and the portions were plenty! Our waiter was attentive and we enjoyed the experience.Look forward to returning!

I really like the pizza here. It is so incredibly difficult to find any decent pizza south of Boston. It hurts my heart how much I miss decent pizza. The funny thing is, this place is about 25 minutes from my home, as is Boston, but sometimes it just seems easier to go somewhere where you can find parking and you don't have to get on the highway. The pizza is brick oven so the crust is chewy on the outside, soft on the inside with fresh toppings. I'm partial to the basic Margherita. pizza. The arancini is also quite good. Super crispy and cheesy and gooey inside, with a hint of lemon, topped with a thick spicy sauce. The beef carpaccio is also quite nice. Pasta dishes are very good as well. Great service, nice wine selection. Honestly, I have no complaint. I just wish it wasn't always so crowded and I wish it was closer to home. And, in therms of kid friendly, if you get here early enough (say 5:30 or 6) then your one year old is not out of place here at all. Would it be better to leave her home, go later, and sit and the bar with your husband? Sure - but that's not always an option.

Met a couple of good friends who live on the South Shore for dinner here. Pros: It was Nice looking from the outside. Parking wasn't a problem. Service was good Good sized portions (I had a salmon & zucchini dish - very simple / perfectly cooked). Guests had chicken parm (big dish and looked very good), couple of appetizers - all of which looked good. Waitress was nice. Cons: I was disappointed that the online menu was out of date. While my arugula salad was good, I kind of balk at a 9.00 price tag for a pile of green. That's about all I can nit pick for this place. Not cheap. 75 bucks for two people for dinner in the burbs is more akin to city prices. Not outstanding, not awful. Just good. If you're south shore suburbanite, you'll think it's just fine. if you're more of a city dinner - accustomed to more razzamataz - you won't dislike it - you'll just think it was ok. Verdict: if you live in the area, worth a try. I wouldn't venture out there from far away.

Everything is great here: Service, Atmosphere, and most importantly food. The arancini is always top notch. The fried eggplant appetizer was superb. They special ordered an adult size portion of fettucini alfredo for my oldest son. My youngest got the corn chowder special and it was wonderful. My wife loved her salmon. The braised short ribs with gnocchi was a fantastic combination.

Ive had better experiences at friendly's. The Caesar salad was good, but the lingering aftertaste, not so much. I ordered the pork osso buccu w/mashed root vegetables. the veggies were outstanding; pork okay. Ive made better. My friends had the margarita pizza which they complained were cold and had minimal mozzarella cheese. The fresh basil leaves on the pizza were the highlight of that meal. I agree w/previous comments in that my waitress was grumpy and in a mad mood. Waitress also not attentive. Tables were sticky b4 we sat down. So I have to say this is not a place I plan on returning to any time soon.

Now open for Sunday brunch! What a treat -- not just the usual brunch fare of eggs, meat, hash browns and toast. Tasty eggs, short ribs hash, and tomato crème freche. Delicious eggs benedict. Joey mixes great Bloody Mary's. Staff, including the owners Brett Williams and his wife, Cara, and sous-chef Kevin, are incredibly friendly and exude enthusiasm and energy for delivering a great dining experience. Stop in and enjoy Joey's top-shelf bartending service, delicious food and wonderful atmosphere!

What a great little gem in a not so obvious location! We came here with friends while visiting Boston. It was my boyfriend's birthday and we wanted a comfortable location with good food. This delivered on all the expectations. We were immediately seated even though the restaurant was packed. We told the server that we were planting ourselves for a few hours as we were celebrating a night out. She was very attentive and never pushy. We ordered wine and appetizers to start. There was a nice wine selection that made it easy to choose. Even though the appetizers were all very good, the stuffed mushrooms and mussels stood out. For dinner, I had the braised short ribs with polenta. It was delicious and oh so comforting! My boyfriend had the gnocchi which was also very good, but was very rich. We finished off the night with a shot of lemoncello and full happy bellies!

Meh - is right. I'd looked for a nice place to have dinner for our 10 year anniversary other than our normal haunts (Stockholder's, Ecco, Alma Nove, etc...) when we have a child free night out. The menu at Orta is right up our alley and I thought the reviews over all were positive - can't please everyone, right? Well, apparently we're part of that club. We walked in through the back door, on Saturday night, a bit early for our reservation. As we approached the hostess station I noticed available two and four top tables available. The hostess told us our table wasn't ready and brought us back to the bar where there were two open seats - fine w/me, happy to have a drink and chat while we wait. About 5 minutes later she came back and said our table was ready and escorted us to one of the open tables we'd just passed. Maybe there's a reason - seems a bit odd, but ok. We were seated in the middle of the floor with the EXTREMELY good fortune (note the sarcasm) to be next to a table with three couples where three gentleman played a loud and obnoxious game of 'one up the other' for a good 1/2hr before they gave us the best anniversary present, paid their bill and left. (I'm not really holding Orta accountable for their behavior this but it just set the tone...Although I did note the two top that sat vacant the entire time we were there along the bench seats that would have been far preferable, given that the hostess knew we were there for our anniversary) We had a forgettable server, and ordered the burrata, portabella mushroom appetizer - average at best - along w/the the fig and short rib pizza for appetizers, that was slightly better. My husband ordered the lobster and scallop ravioli and I ordered the spaghetti w/crackling bacon, parmesan and crushed red pepper. There were two scallops and a little lobster on the plate/in the ravioli for $30. (Take note of Ecco's lobster rav's - they do it right) I wanted a simple pasta and expected the spaghetti to be a unctuous dish highlighted by bites of bacon and slight heat. The bacon was either borderline jerky and other pieces were so hard, someone might break a tooth. Disappointing. We won't be gong back...

My husband and I have tried Orta twice- and enjoyed both times! The first time I had the beef short ribs and he had a seafood dish- the second time we had pizzas (because they looked so good the first time) and salads! Both meals were outstanding! For an area that doesn't have a ton of choice, this place is so refreshing. The waitstaff and hostess couldn't have been nicer. We can't wait to go back again- what a gem for the south shore!

We came to Orta for Valentine's Day in the midst of a major snowstorm (the understatement of the Winter of 2015). We had a reservation for the villa, which as it turns out is basically separate of the main restaurant. It is downstairs and actually behind the main part of the restaurant. The ambiance of the villa was supposed to be quiet and intimate; for the most part, it was. Only, there was no bar located there that night and there was certainly no place to wait for the table. It was pretty awkward waiting for our table (we were there on time for our reservation); there are about 10+/- tables, a small host stand, and that's about it. Regardless, once we were seated, we were promptly greeted by our server and handed a prix fixe menu of the evening. There was a little bit of everything for just about anyone. I had the mussels appetizer and the seared tuna entree. The mussels were fantastic. They were fresh, de-shelled, and in a spicy yet flavorful sauce. It set up the entree as a tough act to follow. The tuna was served as rare as they could legally sell it, which is exactly what I preferred. The tuna was also very fresh and definitely sashimi-quality. It was encrusted in an everything-like spice, served over a rice patty, and with a sauce that's too delicious to put into words. Clearly, everything else found it to be just as good because there were plenty of other plates on other tables. Just when I thought I couldn't eat any more ... dessert time. The desserts were served as a tasting plate with creme brulee, mini cannoli, a lava mousse, and some ice cream. Overall, it was a great experience. I will definitely be back. The executive chef was associated with our favorite restaurant, Stella, in Boston and the menu was strikingly similar. I don't know if I would sit in the villa section again, but I'd be willing to try the main restaurant upstairs.

We loved the tomato basil soup. Appetizers came quickly but entrees were VERY slow to come out. We were almost ready to call it quits. Finally entrees came out. Everything tasted good but my son's pasta was undercooked. Hope it was just an off night.

I had been dying to come here and was happy to have had the opportunity recently - did NOT disappoint what-so-ever! Came on a busy Friday night where the wait was approx. 1/2 hour (not bad at all) and there is a comfortable bar area to hang out in and wait. I though the overall decor was beautiful, comfortable and extremely inviting. The bar area has a cozy little fire place, and a spacious layout. The restaurant area is warm and comfortable and has a great "vibe" - its lively and bustling but still feels cozy and intimate if you want a romantic dinner. We went out for girls night and our waitress was friendly, attentive and charming without being intrusive. The wine list is very impressive and has many great options (the Barbera d'Alba Fontenelle is a great choice!) We also tried a little bit of everything - we had several of the Piattini "little plates" (FANTASTIC OPTION) and loved the saffron arancini (OMG) and the shrimp and garlic bruschetta, the tartufo pizza was absolutely delicious, the chopped salad was amazing and the pan seared scallops were perfectly cooked and the risotto it was served with divine. And yes.. of course we had dessert! A flourless hazelnut torte was heavenly and decadent and yet light and a perfect end to the meal. Our service for the entire evening was courteous, quick, friendly and efficient. I have to believe that the earlier negative reviews were a case of a new establishment working out the kinks and based on my personal experience - they have! Orta is a fantastic asset for the south shore!

I was scared to go back to Orta after reading a couple reviews on here about how the management had changed and how it had gone downhill. But I decided to give it a shot anyways. Pros: -The food is very good. I had mussels, chicken with a mushroom sauce and a cannoli. My parents and wife all liked there food too, they had salads and pasta dishes... They all thought it was like 4.5 star food. -Waitress was nice and friendly. Offered lots of coffee refills, attentive, great personality. -Atmosphere. It's nice in there, warm, they keep it clean. The bar in the back isn't quite as comfortable. Cons: -Kinda slow with the food. I might have given 5 stars, because everything else like the food, service and atmosphere were all really good. However, my Dad got a little impatient because it look literally like an hour to get our entrees and he wasn't drinking and didn't get a app... I didn't mind, but we did wait for quite a while between courses. I think they should have management on top of this kind of thing because it can ruin an otherwise very good meal. But that said, we all enjoyed overselves regardless and would happily return. Final verdict - very good food and good service. If they can get food out quicker it would def deserve 4.5 stars.

The atmosphere at Orta is warm and inviting. The restaurant is fairly large and accommodates a large party. The staff is friendly, but the service was inconsistent during my visit. Although we had a large party, I think it took a little too long to flag down our waitress for drinks and water refills. The food was pretty good and served in gigantic portions. This location is definitely a fun place to dine with friends or a date.

I've been to Orta three times. First visit was awesome. Good food, good service. Second visit good food, non existent server. So non existent my wife and I were sitting at our table both with empty drink and water glasses. Waitress was stomping around the restaurant all pissy about something. On my last visit EVER to Orta we went with a bunch on Neighbors. We had reservations, got seated about 30 min after that time. Not a big deal, we were a large group. Big deal however, waiting over an hour for your food to arrive. My wife ordered a pasta dish of which they were out of that pasta. They did not tell her this until they brought out a substitute meal which luckily would have been her order if she was informed about the problem. I ordered a pizza ate half, sent the rest to be boxed. Asked the waiter where it was when we were getting ready to leave said he forgot who's it was and it got thrown out. Awesome! At least he was professional enough to admit his mistake instead of playing dumb. I was not offered anything for the mistake. The one good thing from the night: I guess the wives table (yes we were at different tables to get the group seated quicker) were jokingly giving the waiter a hard time about the wait for the food and the restaurant gave both tables a desert tray. This place has decent food, sketchy service and a SHITTY beer list. In todays world it is just as important for a "fancy" restaurant to have a good beer list as it is for them to have a good wine list. There are many other places around the area with good food and better service and better value to make not bother going here again.

Salt and more salt seem to be the only seasonings on the dishes here. Even though the pasta dishes are fresh, they are smothered in sauce that is, surprise, super salty. The owner and the waitstaff are really nice and the food is not inedible, so it rates more than 1 star.

My wife and I had dinner with 8 other people for a friends birthday at Orta a little over a week ago. Our server was very nice and attentive as well as knowledgable about the menu. We shared the Lobster Risotto Cakes for an appetizer and they were outstanding. I had the Pancetta Wrapped Cod and it was obvious that it had sat in the hot window for a few minutes because the fish was completely dried out. If it had just been my wife and I the dish would have been sent back but since we were in a large party I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. Everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy their food very much. I understand that these mistakes happen and I would definitely give Orta another chance.

Four stars for food--The food here is very good. The bread is delish. Our appetizer, beef carpaccio was not the best I have had- wayyy too many capers and not enough greens. I got the spaghetti (cooked perfectly) with veal meatballs. My boyfriend got the sausage orecchiette, also very good. The pizza looks awesome, cannot wait to try it! Only complaint was that the parmesan was not freshly grated. We got the pecan pie for dessert, very yummy. Two stars for service--The manager was very nice and kept things moving smoothly. Our server was pretty terrible unfortunately. He was unfriendly and made multiple mistakes. I will definitely go back, but will avoid having that server again. Hopefully the restaurant can work on that. Great food, service needs improvement.

Went for a light meal. Lots of available seats at bar and empty tables but told we needed a reservation even to sit at bar. We have eaten there on a less busy time of year but reserving bar seats and refusing customers when there is clearly plenty of seating is just pretentious. Left a bad taste in our mouth.

Second time there and loved it again. Had the crispy eggplant with a whipped goat cheese center and marinara. I'm not a big eggplant eater but this was to die for. I can't stop thinking about it. Also had the mushroom ravioli. Excellent. A new Italian favorite on the south shore for me.

I've been here twice and was very impressed both times. You wouldn't expect a place in a little strip mall to be so great, but it is! The atmosphere is really nice- ambient lighting, tall ceilings, an open kitchen area so you can see the brick oven, and very well decorated (the only exception to the upscale feeling of the place is the ladies room.. It could use an update.. can't tell you about the men's room). The food is really delicious and on par with any North End restaurant, in my opinion. Service was friendly and attentive. If you go, you have to try the arancini appetizer - YUM!

It's winter and they've updated their menu. They had homemade sage parpadelle with bolognese sauce. I'm a sucker for fresh pasta and it was delicous. A woman next to me asked what I ordered and after telling her, she ordered it too. I heard her tell her signaficant other that it was the best meal she's ever had. My better half got gemelli with chicken and brocolli which is wonderful too.. I'm more apt to try dishes I don't make at home. They also have added osso bucco with root vegetables which is what I will be ordering next time. It's hard not to order their margarita pizza b/c it's so good and so fresh. Made with San Marzano tomatoes and fresh motzerella and baked in a brick oven. The Margharita is by far the best. You can sit at the pizza bar and watch it being made so you know it's fresh. At some of the tables in the dining room instead of chairs at the table, they have leather couches which I think that is super sexy. It's always busy so be prepared for that. Love Orta!

There are many better options for italian around the south shore. IMO overpriced for what they offer. Trying to be trendy "Boston style" but not quite there. We made a res a week in advance and ended up at a table behind the hostess desk which was just in an odd spot. Seemed like it shouldn't have been there. Service was spotty. Drinks were ok but nothing special .Martini menu had strange flavors that sounded good but were not .We had the coconut lemon and pear something which were both sub par.My friend got a choc. and had to send it back. We're really not that picky and how do you mess up a martinni? I had a $26 special swordfish which was the smallest piece of swordfish ever!! Sides were uneventful.Braised short ribs which were bland. Chic. broc. ziti .Just Ok could make the same at home (actually i could do better). Our server seemed new. She could'nt remember who got what from apps. drinks to our entree. I would steer clear .Try Trattoria San pietro in Norwell and no I don't work there .We went the following weekend and it was a much better place.

We were there last night for about the 6th time. We love the drunken mushroom pizza, the eggplant appetizer, the wine list and finally I ventured into something different. I tried the mussels. OH MY GOD. I am not usually so enthusiastic about mussels but they were fantastic! My wife and I were bending the chef''s ear for a while and he was very affable- he really enjoys his work and it shows. We will now be regulars. Bravo, Brett and staff!

Pretty good Italian food for outside of the North End. Appetizers are delicious and good for two people to share. We've tried the pizza, a few pasta dishes, and the pork belly which was to die for! Desserts are delicious as well, if you have room. Drinks are well made. Waitstaff can be a little slow, as the place is always packed which in my opinion is a good sign! Why would you want to dine somewhere that people weren't waiting to get in?! I would HIGHLY recommend making reservations! Made the mistake of trying to walk in around 5:30 on a Saturday night only to be told a table would not be available until 8 pm! Luckily we found a couple of bar seats and were well taken care of. I usually try to make a reservation on Wednesday or Thursday for the weekend, as the desirable time slots are scooped up quick!

Straight middle of the road. I found the food to be boring and passable. The ceasar was decent but no fish. Our waiter was sweating profusely and very antsy/fidgety, definitely questionable behavior. My dining partner liked the steak as any red blooded american man would. That's about it.

I've been here a few times, and went back this past weekend. We got the beet salad, which was packed with beets, and some sort of spicy pecans that were delicious. We also split the lobster risotto cakes, which were fine - nothing special, but enjoyable. And followed the apps up with a margherita pizza. I usually like my pizzas with lots of toppings, but we went simple this time, and I'm glad we did - it was my favorite of the pizzas I've had there. Lots of basil, and so tasty. The house cabernet was great, too. The drink menu had lots of funky cocktails on it - maybe next time!!

We recently went to Orta on a date night. Were seated right away, and the service was very efficient. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu and friendly. My wife got the asparagus pizza which she really enjoyed. I had the panko crusted chicken with spagetti, which was fabulous. This was our first time, and we plan to be back again in the not too distant future.

Went back to Orta for the second time tonight and I don't even know how we had date nights before this place. This restaurant has the most attentive, courteous crew. We literally felt like celebrities. I recommend going here as soon as you possibly can and asking for Stewart or Sean. The short ribs are unbelievable. Though I doubt you could order anything on the menu that isn't knock your socks off fantastic. We love the atmosphere. The little alcove tables add a touch of privacy perfect for any date night. We can't wait to go back!

This place is fantastic! Have been here a few times and have never had a negative experience. Love that they use open table for reservations as it can get busy on weekend nights. There are usually families with kids, young couples on a date, empty nesters, etc. Everyone seems to like it here. The pizza oven and open kitchen concept are like dinner and a show. There seem to be good tables and not-so-great ones. Just ask for the one you like- the staff is quite accommodating. Service is good. My water glass is kept full and I'm never made to feel rushed. Staff is friendly and seem to like their jobs. Nicely edited wine list with various price points. Nothing very special or remarkable though. Food is very tasty. Beet salad is all diced beets and a treat. Everything with short ribs is a winner- entree or pizza. The bolognese is a good one. Bar area is separate from the dining room and always seems lively. $11 cocktails means an older crowd; looks like mid-30's and up. Usually at least one or two groups of 40-something age ladies (book club?) Something for everyone. Definitely add this place to your list.

This place is a real gem. They have great food, excellent drinks the inside is gorgeous! My only gripe is that they offer little for any gluten free options. Just something to consider if you can't have any gluten. I love the fireplaces and the brick oven grill. Word to the wise for good seating, in the winter, don't sit near the door in the back bar area. You'll be freezing!

I went there last night for the first time. I wanted to check it out based on the Phantom Gourmet reviews. Initally it's not what I expected. The menu was somewhat limited (they only had 1-2 different types of fish or steak etc). We ordered the stuffed pepper for an app which was good, the $30 bottle of Pinot Noir was very good. For dinner my husband had the Salmon and I had the Swordfish special. Both fish dishes were cooked just right. The presentation was good and we both really liked the accompaniment that came with the fish dishes as it added a great taste to the fish. One thing I will say is that the Swordfish was suppose to be served over roasted potato and I was told they "ran out" of the potato. Really... a resturant running out of a common staple like that at 7pm. They substituted it with califlower which was crisp and tender. Service was good. We both agreed that we would come back again. Next time I want to try their brickoven pizza.

Really great food with reasonable prices. Great apps...try the meatballs. Pumpkin ravioli was great as was the Tuscan veal meatloaf. Dessert was good, not great. Waiters were excellent, service was very good. Someone actually followed us outside from their restaurant to ask us how the experience was. I would DEFINITELY return.

After the long trek up the stairs in the back of the parking lot, I finally made it into the warmth of Otra. It is clear this restaurant is pretty much a new fetus. It still has the new restaurant smell. awww. Since we had to enter in the back of the establishment, we entered near the bar, which was covered in red brick. As soon as you get past the bar, you can smell the open wood burning oven as a little man is quickly rotating handmade pizzas in and out of the heat. We sat at the bar, so we could watch the kitchen. we started off with a small plate of broccoli rabe with ricotta salata and garlic. Sooo good. I wanted to make a dinner out of the calamari app. and the small plates of beets and rabe. However i settled on the special. Swordfish with muscles, butternut squash and rosemary potatoes. My friend and his mom got the half chicken. Portions are huge. Literally i had half a swordfish. It was a little scary...but as i licked my plate, i smiled, thinking "I beat that b***h. Now, this place is clearly new. Service was ok. Little slow. Out waitress was very sweet but we think she got lost halfway through the night because we didnt see her for a long time. The kitchen was buzzin with action but food still came out a bit slow...except for the pizzas. Those shot out fast. I hope this place makes it. Pembroke needs a little more action.

I love Orta! My boyfriend and I always sit at the bar because they have one of the most personable bartenders on the South Shore. And it doesn't hurt that he makes a killer martini. We love the piattini (like tapas), particularly the chicken livers. The lamb is amazing and the seafood is always well cooked.

Been to most of the nice Italian restaurants around. They do a fine job, but I have been lucky enough to have visited Italy twice. Orta has the BEST pizza outside of Naples Italy. Funny enough, I heard that the owner he lived and trained there. The other meals pasta, fish, or any others are very good. Thank god we live close by.

My filet came to me medium vs medium rare, and I am one who very rarely sends food back just because of my experience in the food service industry in the past. However this time I decided i was going to send it back... My wife and I had just ventured out into the snow storm to enjoy a Valentines day dinner, so I was determined to have what I asked for instead of settling for what i was served. I explained to the waiter that I understand they are busy and if they could get me a new steak i would really appreciate it. Not only did the waiter respond swiftly to my request, but he sent the manager over who not only apologized, but changed out my silverware and napkin. Then he personally delivered my new plate to me and asked for me to cut into the center to check the temperature. It was perfect... Literally a 5 minute turnaround, I have never seen such professional service and customer response than this. 5 stars! The personnel was very personable from the time we walked in the door. The atmosphere was great, rustic Italian pizza oven style and plenty of privacy with closed off tables along the walls. The food offering was phenomenal, we had the Valentines day menu. Started with the Oysters and steak tartar, entrees included the wild boar bolognese with gnocchi, and the filet mignon. All was delicious and professionally presented. The desert plate that was served was decadent! Two flavors of rich creamy ice cream with a side of chocolate lava cake AND a side creme brule. We were stuffed once we left b ut in a good way not a heavy uncomfortable way. I shook the hands of the waiter and the manager as i left and thanked them for the help with the steak. The manager said hope to see you soon... I said you will! I would recommend ORTA to anyone and we plan on going there again to sample the entire menu!

Tonight we had a great dinner with friends. Both the bar and dining room were very busy but the service from our server Jasmine was exceptional. Spinach salad, arancini, and eggplant starters were all very tasty. Our main courses included the double pork chop special, filet mignon, spaghetti with meatballs and Bolognese were all delicious. The dining room is managed closely by co-owner Cara who takes time to checkin with diners and staff during the very busy dinner service. If you haven't tried this place recently call for a reservation soon. You won't be disappointed.

We came here last minute for an impromptu dinner and drinks. The wait was not long for a busy Friday night. We were a party of three. Our jobs involve the food & beverage business so we dine out a lot. The wine list is good if you know how to pick around the usual suspects. Our waitress, Jess, was excellent. She helped us decide on what we wanted to order. Let me tell you not one dish disappointed! The tuna tartare was one of the best I've had. We also all split a mixed salad that had fried goat cheese (so good). Some establishments are not fond of you splitting dishes, we were not made to feel that way at Orta. We also had the short rib pizza which was another excellent choice. Then for the finale we split the eggplant app, their sauce is delicious & memorable. Overall we had amazing ambiance, food, & wine. So often a night out is ruined by bad service, we were all impressed with this waitress she made our night out together that much better. We will definitely be back & requesting Jess as our waitress.

Orta attempts to be an "upscale" place with decent lighting and solid Italian menu, but the staff isn't up to par and always seems a bit grumpy. The small pizza's are great. Sit at the back bar and enjoy a game on the large screen tv. The pricing is higher than average for similar type restaurants in the area. Nice place for a change-up, but not a regular destination.

Consistent, delicious food! We dine at Orta about monthly and we are always pleased. With two kids, 13 & 11, the entire family has enjoyed everything we've ever tried. You get what you pay for. A favorite for my kids and the adults, I admit) is their amazing pizza topped with....anything! Delish!! I will say, our last visit, the service was very slow bc the kitchen was jammed due to a party. While not thrilled, the manager kept us posted and did everything they could to ensure we were happy. Well done.

Service was polite, professional, and knowledgeable. Food was unbelievable. Caeser salad is to die for as is their pizza. Their Penne with broccoli and chicken is the best I've ever had. Seafood fresh and the sauce is deeelish. Creme brule...omg. Go to this restaurant, you won't regret it!

I went here On a Sunday night with my family, it was kind of empty but the atmosphere was cozy. Our waitress was ok and attentive. The food was just blah, the appetizers and desserts were good but the entrees were bland. I can safely say I was disappointed by Orta and probably won't be going back.

Excellent suburban Italian. Good selection of wines. Thin crust pizza made in a traditional pizza oven. Can be an excellent deal if a family sticks to just pizza.

Absolutely wonderful experience. I went here with my girlfriend on a Friday night. It was busy when we arrived, but we were seated right away! Our waitress was very attentive and so sweet. We were brought water and fresh bread with olive oil promptly after being seated. We ordered our food and although we did wait about 25 minutes, it was SO worth it. My girlfriend got the rigatoni bolognese. She said it was delicious! I tried a few bites and agreed, it was very meaty and the pasta was cooked perfectly. I ordered the braised beef short rib with gnocchi. It was AMAZING. The beef was so tender and the gnocchi was homemade! So perfect. To end the night we ordered the tiramisu per our waitress's request. It was unbelievable. Perfectly layered and soaked in espresso! I would recommend this place to everyone, and I will certainly be back!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
