This is my favorite restaurant in Northampton, hands down. The staff is really friendly, and they're always helpful. The food is fresh and delicious. I love the ambiance as well. The food can get pricey, so come during lunch if you can. Their lunch specials come with soup, rice, and an entree.

Not very impressive. I had a decent green curry dish and she had a crunchy pax Thai. Sounds like it might be good right? Wrong. Chow mein noodles on a mediocre pad Thai dish. Overall C minus

Wow! GREAT FOOD! I especially like the Crispy Chicken on Pad Thai. All the curries are great. There is nothing organc on the menu. The staff is exceptionally friendly and always remembers repeat customers. It's in an unlikely spot, hidden literally under the train bridge, and from the street it doesn't look like much, but the inside is clean and neat and the food is amazing. Entrees are $8-$16.

I got my introduction to Thai cuisine here and I've been a loyal customer ever since. I love the atmosphere and excellent staff. Easily one of my favorite places in the area.

Great Thai food. Our office order from here at least once a week. Great service.

Great Thai food. Small very nice restaurant. and some good wine. You wont find better Thai without driving for a while.

I am giving Thai Garden the four star rating because I am a fan. It is good thai food at a reasonable price. It has been the best thai restaurant in the area that I have found. What I enjoy the most at the fresh rolls. The Pad Thai is alright but is occasionally dry and not especially spicy unless you ask for a little kick. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very pleasant if you can sit in the window try that the space is very cozy and enjoyable. Enjoy

freshest best thai food i've had. I recommend going for lunch because it's a lot cheaper and the food is just as good as dinner time. Waitresses are really nice.

Wonderful food, nice atmosphere, most pleasant staff ever. Love the Thai Garden, been going for years now! Try the Crab Rangoon!

YUM!!!!!!! Went here with the bf and had the amazing spring rolls and the "jeep" dish for apps. The little "jeep" dumplings were so good we agreed that we could have eaten a dozen of them alone! Then, we got our main dishes. We had planned to share plates and I am so so glad we did. We had a duck dish with all cooked to perfection. Then there was the noodle dish- oh my! - did ask for the spice to be reduced (the menu had it listed with 5 chili peppers!) which was met with a smile and a "no problem" from our attentive waitress. Finally, we had the squid dish as well. It is so easy to overcook this delicate delectable, no so at Thai Garden. There were big, meaty pieces of squid and not one of them was tough. Highly, highly recommend this Thai restaurant.

I Think this place is fantastic. Great food at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is nice without being too formal - as someone else mentioned. The wait staff is very attentive (I think I had my water filled 40 times last time I was there). I am always surprised that this place isn't busier - a really great place. Highly recommended. The fresh spring rolls are amazing. The peanut sauce they use is to die for. I'd like to come here sometime and just go to the bar to have a drink - seems like a good place to have a causal business meeting type drink.

Definitely good food. I really like the salads there. And I usually go for the Pad Thai and the Thai Iced Tea. But according to my friend, most of the food is dubbed down for Americans.

This is some really great Thai food; some of the best in the Pioneer Valley. The atmosphere inside the is excellent; somewhat upscale, but without the snobbiness that typically goes along with that. And the food, of course. The food is excellent. I tend to stick with the panang curry, and it's delicious. If you're craving Thai in Northampton, this is your best bet.

This might be my favorite Thai place. Great food, great service, pretty location. The price isn't out of this world, either. Thumbs up!

Fair warning: I've been very spoiled by another Thai restaurant, so I'm not sure that any other place will completely be up to scratch. However, the curry puffs here were out of this world, the Pad Thai was decent, and the chicken satay was tasty. Worth a try, but not a go-to.

I ate here this evening and was in a word disappointed. This was the second time that I've eaten here and I started with the coconut soup with chicken then moved onto the cashew chicken with brown rice. Both were the most bland, and flavorless dishes that I've ever had at a Thai restaurant. Not impressed

Absolutely appalled at the food and service received. I am pregnant and get very sick from certain foods, so I called and specified NO tofu, eggs, fish sauce, or peanuts. My husband and I drove over one hour (30 mins each way) for a to-go order, based on our previous positive experience here. Boy were we wrong. The "fresh rolls" say they have steamed shrimp on their menu, but in fact, it is old dry tofu. I bit into one and immediately threw up. There were also VERY old veggies in there- see my images. The veggie pad thai was so overcooked the noodles were literally one clump, veggies so overcooked it was inedible. My husband's crispy chicken pad thai was the same with the noodles, and the chicken was so over fried it was actually black. I couldn't even bite through it. Because they falsely advertised and made me sick, my husband called and politely asked for a refund. To his dismay, he was yelled at and told to "call back in February because the owner is on vacation and there's nothing they can do about it." I'd like everyone to know of not only their horrible, horrible food, but also the way they treat their customers when THEY screw something up. Definitely consulting with a lawyer over the false advertising, and there is absolutely no way I will ever return here. They lost two very good customers tonight!

Went for lunch, which is well priced. Service is good. Had a curried noodle special and Tom yum soup. Both were too salty. Dishes of my friends were apparently quite bland.

Thai Garden is evidence that you can't always write off a restaurant based on your first experience. I went to Thai Garden maybe 2 years ago, and was disappointed in the authenticity of the food, its flavor and consistency, and the service/ambiance. In fact, I didn't really ever care to return here, I was so unimpressed. This past February, we returned to Northampton and ended up at Thai Garden, despite my silent resistance. Our meal: -we ordered pork Massaman curry and pad see ew, which comes with both chicken a shrimp, a pleasant suprise. -the Massaman curry was really watery, moreso than usual, but still had good flavor. -the pad see ew was literally one of the best Thai dishes I've had since leaving Thailand. The flavor was spectacular and authentic. I literally devoured the dish and had no leftovers. -I'd really suggest ordering hotter than you normally would as I asked for mine "hot" and saw on the receipt that they only labelled it a 1-star heat. I asked for chili paste to make it spicier. If I ask for spicy, make it spicy! Ambiance: -this time, we were seated in the window booth, which I really liked as you can see out and have a little more privacy to talk. The general room is a little loud for my taste. -service was nice, constantly got water refills. We'll be back to Thai Garden.

The dishes didn't take long to get served. Nice taste without being too heavy or Americanized. The sauces used are pretty fresh. Service quite patient and friendly.

We went on a Saturday night and it was super busy. We were seated quickly. There was not a lot of privacy as the tables are very close together. I didn't mind much but I'd rather not have to put effort into ignoring the neighboring conversation. We ordered a curry as well as the Pad Thai. Our food arrived quickly. The curry had some heat to it, which was nice, but the Pad Thai did not. Both were very tasty. I would have liked to have the traditional condiment tray with garlic chili paste, dried chili, peppers in vinegar, etc. Maybe there's not enough room as I didn't see any other table with one. The curry was served in a ceramic warming bowl which sat on a ceramic tea candle holder. It was pretty effective and clever as curry is a form of aromatherapy. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and service was prompt enough we made it to our show on time. I would eat there again but would order my food extra spicy to compensate.

I love this place! I come to Northampton especially to come here for the Thai food. The prices are generally about the same as other Thai places, but the difference is that this place is totally worth it. The interior is really nice and you could come here casually with friends or with a date. I ordered the pad thai and the green curry when I come here. The food comes out quickly and hot. The flavor of the pad thai is intense and the noodles are almost always cooked perfect. The noodles aernt too limp and aernt undercooked. The flavor of the curry is amazing. I don't think I've ever had better curry. The consistency is not too watery but not too thick either, just perfect! Every time I come here this place never fails to satisfy me.

Yelp reviews and my smartphone led us to Thai Garden on a Saturday evening. It stands just the other side of the railroad bridge from much of downtown Northampton, which seems shield it from some of the crowds. That's fine. More for me, then! The curries which my son and I ordered were both excellent: flavorful and with enough heat to give it a bite, but not so much as to overwhelm the dish. The restaurant is comfortable and pleasant, with distinctive Thai decor and plenty of seating. We were warmly welcomed and well served throughout. Delicious!

Northampton. It's Saturday night. Two hours before a show at the Calvin. No reservations (most places won't take them anyway). What to do. THAI GARDEN. It is hard to imagine that with food this good the lines wouldn't be out the door. Skip the Pad Thai, not because it's not good here, but there are so many other choices to explore. I went with a duck dish. 1/2 a de-boned roasted duck, topped with ground chicken, veggies, and my favorite fried basil leaves. This could potentially have been the best duck I have had in any style, anywhere. Super crispy skin, and still amazingly moist. Easily a dish that could have been shared for 2. Great ambiance. Head to the restroom and check out the kitchen. Super clean, well organized and run machine. Stuck without a reservation on a busy night in NOHO or not, this is well worth the stop.

Not quite perfect but definitely good. I've been here a handful of times and the food is consistently flavorful and satisfying. Service is prompt, prices are what I would expect. I would definitely recommend you check it out.

THAI GARDEN IS DECEPTIVE! I found at least 2 shells of eggs in my Pad Thai, which I brought to the server's attention. I was then provided with a new plate of Pad Thai. At the end, I was not able to finish it so I asked the server to put it in a to-go container. When I got home, I only found 1/3 portion of Pad Thai and 1 shrimp. What does that mean? Thai Garden deceptively put only a portion of Pad Thai in a to-go container. (I wonder where 2/3 of Pad Thai ended up LOL) It was not my fault that there were at least 2 shells of eggs in my Pad Thai. Why do I need to suffer for their mistake?? I am very angry!! Thai Garden must remember that Northampton is a small town and they can't operate their business like this. I am telling my friends about it as well.

Basil rice is where it's at. I've moved beyond pad Thai, drunken noodles and red curry as of late. Basel rice is now what I typically order at Thai restaurants and Thai Garden's version is very good. I liked the fact that the chicken was cut up into small pieces. The restaurant has a very nice interior which is somewhat dimly lit. If you don't mind being a little cramped, the two booths near the front two windows are great. Prices are reasonable. I would definitely return again. Hong nam is clean! Hong nam is Thai language for "toilet". I think. I hope.

Came back again for a lunch on a way back from VT and was reminded why I really loved this place. Huge portions, reasonable prices, quick service and, of course, delicious food. The noodle soup that they brought out had been improved -- everyone in our lunch party scarfed it down. I enjoyed the Chicken Tom Yum soup. All the dishes we got were delicious but don't miss the fried dumplings and the minced chicken dishes. Good stuff.

  • Beba M.

I really enjoyed their food. The appetizer was great as well as the main entree. Reason I give t 4 instead of 5 stars: My husband was disappointed in the green curry, it wasn't the greatest and he barely finished it.

I love this place! The food is always fantastic and the servers are very polite. My favorite is the Thai Melon Curry.

Highly recommended, had the mango duck! it was my first time having duck and not my last! the crispy duck was delicious, the flavors of mango and duck go great. One of many restaurants in Northampton that i will return to!

It's that sweet sticky safe Americanized Thai here and nothing more. Ordered the Drunken Noodle and it was all glommed together and largely inedible. I pushed it aside after a few bites. This meal was one star but to be fair I give the place two stars as I've had a decent (albeit not real good) meal here previously.

    (2)
  • Rachel L.

Everything's good here so branch out beyond pad thai & drunken noodles. My current favorite is mango fried rice...loaded with mango, onions, shrimp, chicken and cashews with a mild curry sauce. Another favorite is chicken Rama garden which is loaded with fresh veggies with a great peanut sauce on side. Treat yourself to a Thai iced coffee and Thai donuts to finish up.

I have been meeting my Dad for dinner here every summer for the past seven years or so. I come from Boston and spend a week training teachers at the college here and he drives over the mountains from Albany to join me for a meal. We like the relatively quick service, menu variety, and consistently tasty dishes of Thai Garden. We came here a week or so ago when I was in Williamstown for a few days -- and, as usual, ordered many more dishes than we had any right to ingest. We had a few appetizers, including something with scallops that I loved, a squid dish that was delicious, some sushi that was well prepared, fresh, and nicely decorated, and two enormous main courses. I also had a nice miso soup. What's not to like? I'm adventurous, love trying new places, but see no reason to meet my Dad anywhere else next year.

Crab rangoons were delicious; crispy and fried to perfection. The mango fried rice with chicken and shrimp was good, though I've had better. My BF's meal was verrry yummy, I was jealous lol; crispy panko fried chicken pad thai. Staff is very friendly! Would come back here for sure, located in a fantastic area of Northampton.

Saw that this place had great reviews and decided to try, since i cant pass up a good thai place Decor was inviting, and the staff was very friendly and service was top notch Food: Crab Rangoon fried to a crisp, with a very flavorful and great creamy inside The crispy chicken pad Thai was definetly different then any pad Thai i had. The chicken was perfectly panko crusted and the pad Thai had the perfect amount of flavor, not to sweet not to sour The Mango fried rice was also great, had a kick of curry and tons of chicken and shrimp Both portions were very large and the price for all the food was very reasonable

Favorite thai restaurant in Northampton!!! Really delicious food, great ambience and decor, and excellent service. Love coming here for everything from Pad Si Ew to Pad Thai to various curries. The fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce are great, too. I like that it's a bit quieter, so it's great for dates or dinners with friends and family. Really flavorful food.

Ok, update time...went here for lunch today...food was better as was the service. We just went in for a snack...soup, fresh rolls, and chicken satay, and a side of sticky rice...yummies! Benches are still covered with table cloths, however....

Friends and I stopped here for lunch on the way to a wine festival at the recommendation of all the Yelpers and their reviews. The food here is excellent and the prices completely reasonable. They have your standard dishes like Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles, but they have a few different things too. My boyfriend was able to switch up his favorite green curry with the option of duck. I picked the Yelper recommended crispy noodles with brown sauce and veggies. Everyone left stuffed and extremely happy. A great solution for your Asian food craving!

Very good Thai restaurant in Northampton. Since moving from Los Angeles, we've been trying different restaurants and this was one we found from Yelp. We drove to Northampton from Holyoke. Northampton is a nice little town with an excellent few blocks of retail and restaurants. It was buzzing the Friday night that we went there. We found street parking and walked to the restaurant. It's a small-ish restaurant (probably holds 40 people). We got a table in the back as soon as we walked in. We ordered the Chicken Satay and Pad Thai with chicken. Both dishes were very good. The portions were slightly smaller than in LA, but with less competition, we've found the restaurants in and around Holyoke, Springfield, etc. give slightly smaller portions and slightly higher prices than in LA (so Thai Garden is no different than the rest of the Asian restaurants we tried). The Pad Thai had a more subtle taste than what we were accustomed to, but it was very good. We spent about $20+ for the two dishes including tip. We'll definitely be back! (Please see my pictures). Xie Xie!!

I love the Green Curry Chicken here... not a very exotic choice, but it's a favorite comfort food and I often pick up an order to-go. The fresh spring rolls are great too. My only complaint - the extra few bucks for the rice to go with the Green Curry chicken. As far as I've experienced, this dish is always served with rice... so to the lady on the phone who referred to it as an "optional side"...no, no it's not. Just figure it into the price of the meal and stop treating it like you've got a jasmine rice shortage in the kitchen. The interior is very pretty (especially the window seats) and the service has been really good (except for that lady on the phone who takes rice a bit too seriously). Would definitely recommend this spot to friends. Bring extra money for rice.

  • Kaele V.

I've only had one bad experience here out of the approximately twenty times that I've dined here. They typically are very friendly, accommodating to gluten-free and feature some of the best massaman curry. However, if you're arriving on what appears to be a date, they will strategically seat you in very close together tables very close to other couples, which creates for a bit of awkwardness. I also feel that people who are on a date are treated a little differently in that they often are less helpful and friendly. I also recommend the appetizer crispy rice with shrimp. Although it's small the peanut sauce mixed with the fresh shrimp is just about worth the trip.

I apologize in advance for anyone whom I may offend by this three (3) star rating, but it is more like a 3.5 in my book, rounded down. I have been craving thai food for at least four (4) months; and since we moved to New England, all anyone has been talking about is the "Thai Garden-in Northampton" and how celestial it is. I believe that the hype and expectations grew so large that we set ourselves up for an average course. This was my first time to Northampton and I loved the location of the diner (on the strip!). The service was good, the prices were okay (for the portion sizes) and the drunken noodles were okay (which I got). I was hopeful for larger and / or more spring rolls, but we only got three (3) small ones for five (5) dollars! Now, I did very much enjoy the Pad Thai, it was the best so far out of the few thai restaurants I've been to. But, maybe my next experience will take the rating to a four (4). Anyone have any suggestions from the menu? Maybe the yellow curry will take it to a five (5), who knows.

When I first visited years ago, this quickly became one of my favorite Thai restaurants I've ever been to. I was hugely disappointed this past weekend. Though some dishes were still delicious (shrimp/avacado curry, thai basil shrimp), their drunken noodle was by far the WORST I've ever had, and the service was really awkward and not very good at all. It's not bad, and worth a visit if you know what's good, but I won't likely be back any time soon.

Interior is very nice, and clean. You can tell the staff take pride in this place, as when they were not busy waiting on people, they were cleaning, folding napkins, getting other things ready. This shows a sign of a good manager and keeping the place clean. I was impressed with that. Decor is casual, but nice, which is right in my comfort zone. You can dress up, or walk in with jeans and a t-shirt and it is comfortable. I ordered the red curry with duck which was decent, but was a bit disappointing. There was just something missing. They also bring chicken noodle soup that comes with all meals, which was fresh tasting, and pretty tasty. Also we ordered the crispy chicken pad thai, which was very good. The chicken and the dipping sauce was excellent. The money bags appetizer was tasty as well. Overall a pretty good stop.

Generally I judge Thai restaurants on their coconut soup and drunken noodle. Both are great here!

This was one of the best Thai meals I have ever had. There were nine of us and we tried a good number of dishes. Everything we had was flavorful and delicious. The portions were also good. I highly recommend the money bags appetizer, the green papaya salad, the crispy pad thai, the mango fried rice, their red curry with scallops, and the drunken mussels if you like a spicy kick. Service was quick and friendly even though it was a full restaurant at dinnertime and we were a large group. Parking can be a bit hairy but the food is worth it!

Good food & good service. We had their Green Curry with Pork & Thai Pepper Beef. The curry was a little on the sweet side, but still quite delicious. There was a good amount of both pork & veggies. The beef dish had great flavor. I'd definitely go back!

First time at Thai Garden this past week. I had the Red Curry Chicken and it was awesome. Tender chicken and wonderfully seasoned. Some heat, but not too much. The service was prompt and courteous. I look forward to returning soon.

Don't tell the people at Fitz Willy's...I think I've found my new "go to" place in Northampton! Not that there is any comparison really because the two places differ vastly, but I was impressed with every aspect of my experience at Thai Garden and I plan to return even though I only pass through town a few times per year. Here's my run-down: Ambiance was tasteful and comfortable. I thought the restaurant balanced traditional Thai elements with nondescript American simplicity very nicely. The tables are close together, but the restaurant was not crowded when we had lunch there so I did not feel like other patrons were looming over us or hovering near, eavesdropping on our conversation. Service was nearly perfect. The waitress came to our table quickly, so I wasn't even ready but she returned promptly and everything arrived in a timely manner. Our water was refilled and the table was bussed effectively. The servers were present but not over bearing in the least. I really appreciated their subtle approach to service. Food was excellent, of course, since I'm awarding it five stars. We tried the money bags appetizer which looked cute when it arrived and tasted delicious. The dough was crisp and lightly flaky. It had corn in it which added a hint of sweetness, in addition to the dipping sauce that they provided. My boyfriend had the Pad Thai with crunchy noodles. I thought that the flavor was wonderful but I didn't care for the texture of the noodles. I like my noodles soft, not crunchy, though this dish was not my selection so I can't deduct any stars based on that experience. I had the Choo chee curry with chicken which was delectable. It had pineapple, tomato, bell peppers, peas, snap peas, carrots, and basil in a coconut curry sauce which was among the best curry I've ever tasted. It was served with a generous portion of jasmine rice as well. Side note: Do not fear their spice ratings listed on the menu. This dish had two peppers, indicating it was medium heat spicy. It was actually more mild than I had anticipated. It had a kick but was mainly flavor with a touch of appropriate heat, rather than being a five alarm fire in my mouth. Prices were good. It was around $35 for two entrees, an appetizer, and two Thai ice teas (which were a little small but acceptable). Many of the noodle dishes and curries are priced around $8. The crunchy noodle Pad Thai was around $12 (another reason not to order it, when my $8 meal was far superior in my opinion). The meals also came with a little cup of soup which was an unexpected, nice touch. It had rice noodles and some mystery meat so it's probably not an option for vegetarians. Simply stated: I'm definitely going back.

Definitely a great place to go when in NoHo, Thai Garden is a delicious restaurant in Western MA. Portions are liberal, prices are reasonable & food is reasonably tasty. The ambiance & decor is nice. The chicken can sometimes be dry & the Thai iced tea they served me was lukewarm. I will go back!! Lots of colorful, fragrant dishes in a clean & nice place. It's a perfect spot to try when catching a show at The Calvin.

Thai garden is what I would consider overall just a good choice if you like Thai. It was one of the first places I started going to when I was just getting into Thai food and I enjoy bringing visitors there. While not always important, the decor is a plus. I find it to be a very lovely restaurant that's atmosphere is a little dark in an intimate, authentic-feeling way. The food is reasonable priced, the menu is big enough for variation but not so big that you start to get nervous about the quality. There are few things I find more comforting than going there on a quiet evening and enjoying some good conversation paired with a good-sized Thai iced tea, some curry, and any of their yummy appetizers. What I've had that is mild spicy is pretty much just that- I'm not disappointed but I don't think my mouth is on fire. They also have the standard Asian fair of ice cream (ginger, red bean, green tea, etc) that is great for an after-dinner dessert. They offer take-out of everything on the menu which I personally love. The portions are very fair for the price of the food so it's a good option for takeout and is always done and packaged by the time I get there to pick it up. I always have leftovers too which is a plus! Wait staff is friendly and prompt. No complaints. Overall: Thai Garden does not blow me away with an exceptional Thai experience, but it provides polished decor, good food, and acceptable service. That's perfectly fine by me.

Friend and I had lunch here on December 24, 2012 and it was wonderful. I had the mango curry with shrimp and chicken and rice. And my friend had the yellow curry with chicken and rice. Both were delicious with great taste and very good presentation. Ingredients looked very fresh and obviously homemade right there. Service was quick, friendly, and always with a smile. And we were bid goodbye when we left. This was only our second possibly third time there in 2 years and it hasn't disappointed yet. I would definitely recommend it.

Pretty tasty Thai; definitely the best I've had in the Valley. The Pad Thai isn't too greasy and if you ask them to make it hot, they'll make it decently spicy. The chicken was a little dry, which disappointed me. I tried some of my boyfriend's red curry and it was pretty good, too. The one downside about the curry is that rice doesn't come with it; you have to pay extra for that. It's a little pricy, but the presentation is nice, the portions are a reasonable dinner size (you don't stuff yourself, but you're not left hungry), and the service was fast and attentive.

I'm sorry but this is honestly the worst Thai food I have ever had...read all the great reviews and tried the drunken noodle and mango fried rice. No flavor on either except for sour and bland. I hate to say it but this place was a total disappointment.

3.5..but close to a 4 star rating. Came in on a friday night around 730, the place was pretty full and we were seated fairly quickly. The atmosphere is very traditional, I don't know Thai culture that well, but they had pictures and paintings as well and figurines all around the restaurant. We were seated towards the back of the restaurant near the kitchen, not the best seat in the house, but I can't complain since we got a table. Unfortunately, we were sitting next to another table of girls whose conversation was so loud, I could not hear my tablemates. And they were bickering about which was better...BC or BU and how much money they parents give them....it was that hard to not hear their conversation. ANYWAY, we ordered te chicken satay because everyone raved about it here on Yelp. It was delicious, the chicken was moist and the peanut sauce was like the frosting ontop of a cake. I ordered the crispy chicken pad thai. I love that cripsy chicken, it is so delicious. The portion was really big, I was surprised. It was a tad bit too sweet, but still edible. My friends ordered Pad See Ew with chicken and shrimp and the Imperial Duck. Both portions were large and looked really tasty. Pad See Ew is usually more saucy at other places, but my friend said it was still good. While my experience was good, I'm not sure if I will frequent this restaurant, it put quite a dent in my wallet.

I've eaten here a number of times, but today was my first attempt at Take-Out. I found their website online and they have a menu easily accessible, yet with No PRICES listed. I chose the Hot and Sour Vegetable Soup, Vegetarian Curry, and a Thai Iced Coffee. The Thai Iced Coffee was a disappointment...to me the flavor is similar to non-dairy creamer (the powder kind). I have no idea if that is what they use...I only know that is what I taste. The Hot and Sour soup was right on the mark...tastes just like every other Thai hot and sour I've ever had. The broth was light and not oily. It had a nice spice, not overwhelming. The tofu chunks were a little big for my tastes, but they broke up easily. There was celery...and I liked that. The Vegetarian Curry was flavorful and plentiful, but ran into a problem in take-out world because they combined the curry and rice in a single container. In the 10 minutes it took to get back to my desk the rice had soaked up all the sauce and I was left with a paste. Aside from that, I was happy. Huge chunks of brocolli and big slices of carrots. The tofu was firm and didn't get in the way. Would I order take out from Thai Garden again? Not likely -- there are so many choices in Northampton that the little things can't be forgiven. Oh, and for this lunch I paid $15.00 Two slices at Sams is half the price, and just as filling.

I probably eat at Thai Garden once a month, and so far I've never had a bad meal or bad service. Great place to bring people from out of town- it is still in downtown, but a little off of the main strip.

This is one of our favorite thai restaurants. Love the Chicken pad thai! Great wait staff as well.

I graduated Smith college in 2008 but every time I come back I cannot leave Northampton before coming back to my favorite spot- Thai garden. It is the best I've ever had across the country. Kanom-Jeep, Thai Pepper Beef, Pineapple Fried Rice are my favorites!

I'm relatively new to Thai food but I love it, having had a transcendent experience in Bangkok in 2005 (previously I thought it was more like Indian food which I can't take, but it's really Chinese food done right). Been to Thai restaurants around the globe since. I have a few local Thai restaurants (Sturbridge, Brookfield, MA) but vastly prefer this one in Northampton, where my daughter goes to school. We've been here probably five times now. Every experience has been great. It's very small and tightly packed, so be ready for that. But it's quite authentic in both ambiance and food. Definitely recommend for a nice dinner. Tip: Don't take the front tables in the windows.... It feels private but it's actually very hot, close quarters and far from the kitchen.

Solid, fresh-tasting Thai food--AND good service--a white whale in Northampton. Bonus points for cozy + quiet atmosphere.

This place had awesome food! I like their chicken tempura for appetizer, oh ask for the hot sauce, it's really good w/ the sauce they provided! I got the mango curry which was awesome! The prices was bad, I thought it was weird that they charge for rice. Other than that I would come back to this place.

I enjoyed the food here. It is classic Thai dishes. The portions are a bit small for the prices and they served curry on a plate instead of in a bowl which made it hard to eat. Overall very decent, but not the best Thai I've had.

Since I live in town I have had the opportunity to frequent Thai Garden probably over 25+times. Here is the breakdown: 1. Very friendly staff 2. Excellent prices 3. The food is always delicious 4. The experience and overall value is consist ant 5. There are a variety of options to choose from 6. The food comes out rather quickly for dining in and take out 7. Restaurant decor is nice and it feels exotic I would highly recommend Thai Garden for a night out with the family or loved one as well for some quick take out.

  • David P.

Excellent overall, but you have to order the right stuff. For example, crispy pad thai with chicken is fantastic, but crispy chicken on pad thai is really just not good. Hot and sour soup is okay, but not nearly as good as at most Chinese restaurants in Northampton. Definitely try the fresh rolls with peanut sauce, which is frequently a special appetizer, and for curry enthusiasts, the curries are basically always very good.

A CENTIPEDE crawled out of my rice bowl. The staff attempted to charge us for the whole bill, and laugh off the incident. Prior to the bug, the meal was good and the service wasn't bad(that is why we gave it two stars)...we were enjoying the meal. After a bug crawls out of a dish though-- it was over.

We ordered this food in during a business meeting in the area so I can't really rate the restaurant or service. I had the Yellow Curry with chicken and it was good. Although only rated a 1/3 on the "hotness scale" the spice was quite subdued, so you might want to pick up some extra chili oil to spice it up. Lunch prices were reasonable, around 6 or 7 bucks.

Good consistent Thai food. alittle pricey. Drunken noodle a clear favorite. One red pepper for spice factor doesnt cut it for me and is not spicey so ask for more spice. Thai iced tea always good too.

This place is great. I would treat myself to a curry once a week when I was a Smith student. I loved bringing my family here when they would come visit. My absolutely favorite is the yellow curry. I haven't been able to find one as quite good, and I live in NYC now. Their pad-thai is also amazing--took a while to match that too! And the price...totally right. :-)

  • Dararith L.

I got the Drunken Noodle and judging from the quality alone, the dish had a creative array of chopped vegetables and a vividly gorgeous presentation. The flavor, however, was rather subtle and bland, much to my disappointment. It was good, just not my idea of THAI good where there's larger explosion of spice and seasoning. My friend got the Spicy Basil Eggplant and that had more flavor, but not by a long shot. I'm used to Thai flavor that is simply overwhelming where you need to take your time with, eat parts of it with rice, and pack part of it to go. The food and the overall decor was good, and the service, average. Does this place stand over the top and dazzle me to remember it as a special place? No. HOWEVER, the Spicy Basil Eggplant had a cool looking mushroom that is uncanny to the Super Mario Bros. red mushroom! Spots and everything! So that, is quite memorable. I'll post a pic soon.

We hemmed and hawed about where to go as this is a town of so many choices. Thai Garden won out, and the food did not disappoint. We had the chicken satay, which was pounded flat and came with a delicious peanut sauce; the pad thai, and the avocado curry, both of which were great. The fourth star I want to give this place needs to wait until: the wine glasses are more generous ($6 for this thimbleful?), and there is an easing of the general stress of tables so close together as well as constant waitress interruption (water, etc.--why not just have a small pitcher on each table?)

  • Julie M.

if I had eaten here alone it would have gotten one star. they are a little light on the fish sauce and i think their curries come from a jar of paste, not fresh. i didnt taste the lemongrass either. maybe it is hard to get the right ingredients in Mass. the tofu was hard and rubbery and the green beans had a weird chemical taste - this was in the green curry. i had to dump soysauce (which i would not normally do to thai food) all over it to make it edible. however, my girlfriend got the fruit curry and it was really good. some of the sweetness leaked out of the lychees and rounded out the flavor of her curry.

    (3)
  • Sasha G.

Really consistent! The food is always delicious, and the staff is always really friendly. I recommend drunken noodle, massaman curry, and the pad thai is really good. They also have delicious appetizers, the chicken satay is awesome, and the chicken tempura is killer.

I was a little skeptical when I came to Thai Garden. I went to Siam Square earlier in the year hearing rave reviews from others and was extremely disappointed by what was deemed "really good thai food." However, Thai Garden pleasantly surprised me. Although I wouldn't say it's the best Thai I've ever had, it was pretty good! So good, in fact, that I went again the next week. It gets pretty packed on the weekend nights. The service is a little iffy. I went around 5PM on a weekday when it wasn't too full and I thought it was a little awkward how all the servers were standing in the back just waiting. Also, my friend and I requested the window seat and the hostess talked with an older server for a bit and then said it was reserved. Five minutes later, a couple walked in and just sat in the window seat without even waiting to be seated. They may have been the ones to reserve the table, but I thought it was kinda weird. Very efficient in refilling your water glass, for sure! One rule of thumb I have in going to Thai restaurants is trying the Chicken Satay and the Pad Thai. If they can't do those two dishes right, then they shouldn't even be open. The Chicken Satay here is okay. I've had better peanut sauces and the chicken didn't have as strong of a taste as I would've liked. It's still worth getting, though. The Pad Thai was delicious. I would definitely order the dish again, though I tend to try new things every time I go. I've had their Prik Prow Fried Rice; it was SO good. I definitely recommend their fried rice. The prices are decent, especially for the portions you're getting. I almost always leave either unable to walk, or with a carry-out box of leftovers. I would give this place five stars, if it weren't for the excellent Thai food I've had elsewhere. But, I highly recommend.

Thai Garden has all of your basic Thai dishes and does them all (almost) perfectly. I (almost) always crave Thai food and love having Thai Garden around the corner to serve up what I want. They're attentive to individual tastes and always ask how spicy I want my curry or noodle dish. It's often hard to find places like this in smaller towns, so I'm glad they have all my favorite basics covered. Make sure to take a look at the specials menu, since it has a lot of great things that are easy to miss. I'm not really sure why it's the specials menu, since it seems to be the same every time I go in or order take-out. I highly recommend green papaya salad and if you ever go to Thailand or Laos, make it your go-to street car meal. I have to give their service special attention, since they've always been so great. One time they wrote down my order wrong (or brought me the wrong thing), but fixed it quickly and without any hassle. I just really appreciated the way they handled the situation and didn't actually make it into a situation. I haven't tried their seafood other than some shrimp, but everything I've had has been delicious. In fact, I have some left-overs from the other day waiting for me in the fridge, so I must leave my computer and this review to go eat them. See?! Just writing about this place is making me crave it!

I had my first Thai experience here many years ago and have been hooked ever since. Thai Garden has been consistently delicious and fresh with everything I've tried. The fresh rolls and chicken and tofu pad thai are my staples. Their satay is excellent as well. My husband really likes the yellow curry here as well and tells me it's perfect every time. The service in this restaurant has always been prompt and very friendly.

Thai Garden definitely gets ups for being far superior to Siam Square -- at least in terms of food quality. It's a little pricier than I'd prefer, especially if ordering rice with an entree will cost extra. The portions are generous, at least two meals so maybe it's worth it. I haven't dined in yet but take out service is speedy and the staff seems great. They were helpful in recommending a dish, steering away from the pad thai and recommending curries if you want something spicy.

  • Alex G.

Pretty good Thai place for dinner, the decor inside is pretty cool, good ambient atmosphere. The staff was also very friendly. I had some appetizers and Goi See Mee dish. Both were good, as good as the Thai food I had on the west coast. And just like most Thai places, the portions are huge, ended up taking half of it home, to make a good snack the next day. My only one problem is that I think its a bit pricey for some dishes.

A really nice Thai restaurant. We really enjoyed this ethnic find while passing through. The Tom Yum was yummy, spicy and had the right mix of seasoning. The Pad Thai was right on, as was the spicy Chicken with Basil and Squid PIk pow. Often chicken basil uses Italian sweet basil which lacks the savory licorice flavor of thai Basil. Here the dish had plenty of Thai Basil, as well as chili and other spices. We will be back next time we are in town.

My mother and I have been here three times over the past three or four years. It is fabulous! Their tom kar gai soup is flavorful and full of chicken and fresh mushrooms and cilantro. Tom kar gai is one of my favorite soups and they do it well here. Today I got a tofu and ginger-mushroom dish with loads of fresh ginger and veggies. The tofu was super light and fluffy, but crispy on the outside. Delicious! My mother had a yellow avocado-shrimp-chicken curry dish that was also excellent. We'll keep going back for sure!

Defiantly the best Thai restaurant in the area. Waitress was very friendly. Food was very delicious. Love the Chicken Santay, very tender, no burn marks. I also liked the green curry duck. They were all carefully shredded, each piece remains similar size. All the tastes went into the food very well. Two Thumbs up!

Coming from the Pacific Northwest, where the salmon is pink and the Thai food is amazing, it is tough to give a 5 star rating for any Thai food in the East Coast. With that being said, I was pleasantly surprised with the Pad Thai here. The food came promptly and was priced reasonably and service was good. The restaurant is a bit on the smaller side of things, but in Western Massachuestts, this is definitely my go-to-place for Thai.

Typical east coast Thai food, meaning virtually flavorless. The location is nice, the decor and atmosphere are lovely. Service was prompt but indifferent. Prices are entirely reasonable given the portion size and quality of ingredients. The food, however, was utterly disappointing. I ordered the red curry, which is my barometer dish for Thai restaurants. It's listed as "2 chilis" on the menu, which translates to "medium" spice. At my favorite Thai places in California this would mean sweat-inducing, tongue-warming spiciness. At Thai Garden it means "add salt". Seriously...the curry was incredibly bland, with NO heat and not much other flavor besides. I really did need to add salt just to give it any flavor. One of my companions ordered the Drunken Squid, which is listed as "3 chilis", or "hot". His dish had a tad more flavor than mine, but couldn't be classified as "hot" in any respect other than its temperature when it came from the kitchen. I would rate his dish "mild" and mine "no spice". All in all if you're not into actually eating Thai food or if you have a COMPLETE aversion to spice, you'll probably find this to your liking. On the other hand if you've tried actual authentic Thai cuisine and you love its complexity and its balance of sweet, savory, and heat, you should stay FAR away from Thai Garden.

I have been to a couple of Thai places and this is my favorite so far. The place is slightly small but the atmosphere is very welcoming. I am very fond of their Thai Ice tea! The price is a little on the high side but understandable if you consider their huge portion sizes. My favorite dish is the thai garden fried rice with shrimp and chicken...yummy! I will definitely stop by the next time I am in the area.

Every month or so I crave their pad thai. My favorite hands down. I'd also recommend the hot and sour vegetable soup and the vegetable tempura. The service has always been excellent, and it's very nice inside without being too formal. They also have restaurants in Williamstown, MA and Brattleboro, VT.

I used to go here for lunch with some frequency when I lived in Amherst, and was consistently pleased with the food and service. The curry dishes were really the standout menu item for me; I ordered each of them many times over. Their fried veggie rolls were always great for a light appetizer. They had an excellent flavor, were nicely crisped without being overly greasy, and were served with a sweet chili sauce that was so good I would often ask for extra and use a bit with my meal. If sweet chili sauce and Thai curry sounds like a gross combination, I don't know what to tell you. But I'm obsessed. The curry is available is several flavors, and I found myself to be a big fan of the green variety. They gladly altered the spice according to taste, and really listened when I asked them to make it nice and hot. The portions were satisfying and the food well-made; the staff was incredibly nice, attentive, and patient; and the decor was attractive, classy, and upscale, but comfortable and casual at the same time. The last time I was in Amherst, years after I moved elsewhere, I went back to my old haunt with my family, and found Thai Garden to be just as good, if not better. The owner came out and chatted with us for a while, and made us feel very welcomed. If you're in Northampton, it's definitely a good bet for lunch or dinner.

Thai Garden is the best Thai food in the 5-College area. While it's not the best Thai food I've ever had, it is still very delicious. And since I've yet to find another Thai restaurant in the Valley that I think comes close, it gets 5 stars from me. The atmosphere here is great. The waitstaff are very accommodating. The food is consistently delicious. Their Thai ice tea IS the best I've had. I've never had to wait very long for a meal, even when the restaurant was packed. I agree with other reviewers, however, that if you like spicy food, ask for more spice! An added bonus is I'm always left with more to take home!

Lovely decor and very friendly staff. We are from the West Coast where thai food is taken very seriously, to the height of authenticity and even notoriety. In these regards, this restaurant is not likely to score. One of us, for example, had the pad thai with crispy noodles, highly recommenced by the happy waitress but not that special, really, and even a bit contrived. Another order of indian-style somosas was actually quite good but again not refined. My own order of eggplant stirfry was overly oily. I love eggplant but somehow this missed the mark. On the plus side, the attentive staff was very solicitus and the overall setting with the attractive fabrics and asian artifacts was quite pleasant. Summary: dine here for the novelty of asian style food but do not expect an asian style eating experience. That's maybe an airplane ride away. Here its a safe, accessible, colorful experience. My parents who are health conscious and cannot travel to emerging countries like Thailand will be quite satisfied.

Every time I go home to western mass, my mother and I go here. This past weekend we went with our boyfriends (we let them join us when they whined they were hungry). The decor of this restaurant is very pretty and relaxing. The server we had was very sweet and pleasant and was sure to make sure we were content the whole meal. Apps- Satay- delicious and their peanut sauce is perfection Curry Puff Special- had potatos, peas and curry deep fried in a puff pastry. Yea. Awesome. Thai Rangoons- yum yum yum. Just sweet enough. Fried perfectly. We ordered a chicken and shrimp pad thai for the table to split with our meal and it went faster than any side dish I've seen. It was really fresh and yummy. I ordered the Green Curry with chicken. It comes in this cute little clay pot over a tea light burner. The vegetables in EVERYONES entrees were so fresh and steamed perfectly. The colors were gorgeous, the flavors were developed and we all left really full and happy. My mother got a duck dish that she absolutely loved (she cleaned her plate). And the boyfriends got a spicy beef dish with mushrooms that they also loved. ALL of that food and we left with no leftovers. Apps, Entrees, and drinks for 4 people .. 115 dollars. Not bad at all. Pretty gluttonous but worth every calorie.

I used to go here pretty often for thai food. Interior is cleaner than other thai restaurants such as Thai Place in south hadley. I usually get pad thai, red curry with sticky rice, money bag for appetizer, crispy chicken with pad thai. All of their foods are superb which I would have given five stars if they didn't serve cold money bag three weeks ago which is supposed to be tempura with pork and stuff inside. Other than that, this place is great place to eat thai food.

This is my favorite Thai place in the area. The atmosphere is wonderful (I like sitting in the window!), and it is a good place for both larger groups and dates. I usually go for lunch because the prices are lower and the portions are the same. I like pad thai, massaman curry and rama garden. Their peanut sauce is to die for. I have also tried their spring rolls, tofu triangles and seaweed salad, which were all excellent choices as well.

Comparatively speaking...for the price, I don't think this place is the best ive ever had...but because we're talking about western massachusetts (northampton), this is a great option if you're craving thai food. I usually get: -pad thai -pad see ew -thai iced tea the service is decent and the atmosphere is relaxed. this place is also group-friendly and itll leave you feeling fulfilled.

I don't remember what I ate during this meal, but I remember it was good. A little expensive if I remember, but I have a lot of really cheap good Thai in my current neighborhood so I might be biased. I thought the portions were average but the service was pretty good. Another good Thai restaurant.

Good stuff.

This place had awesome food! I like their chicken tempura for appetizer, oh ask for the hot sauce, it's really good w/ the sauce they provided! I got the mango curry which was awesome! The prices was bad, I thought it was weird that they charge for rice. Other than that I would come back to this place.

  • Cecelia B.

    (4)

    (3)
  • Chris W.

Good consistent Thai food. alittle pricey. Drunken noodle a clear favorite. One red pepper for spice factor doesnt cut it for me and is not spicey so ask for more spice. Thai iced tea always good too.

  • Nina G.

    (3)
  • Julie M.

if I had eaten here alone it would have gotten one star. they are a little light on the fish sauce and i think their curries come from a jar of paste, not fresh. i didnt taste the lemongrass either. maybe it is hard to get the right ingredients in Mass. the tofu was hard and rubbery and the green beans had a weird chemical taste - this was in the green curry. i had to dump soysauce (which i would not normally do to thai food) all over it to make it edible. however, my girlfriend got the fruit curry and it was really good. some of the sweetness leaked out of the lychees and rounded out the flavor of her curry.

    (3)

The best Thai Food in Western, MA Friendly, quick service with a smile, extremely fresh veggies, and the prices for the amount of food you get is great! Definitely recommend everyone to Thai Garden!!

Great food... esp if you like red curry

Have been to this restaurant twice. I am not that familiar with Thai food, but was it good! I'll be back! So many delicious new tastes! Great service, friendly atmosphere!! Am looking forward to more visits!

Yummy, great Thai -- my favorite in Northampton. Very friendly staff, and a great ambiance inside. Much preferred (by me) over nearby Siam Square. Not ravingly outstandingly delicious, but it's the best in the area.

Took my dad here for his first taste of Thai food. This was the best Thai I've had. The service and atmosphere was excellent. Can't wait until I am in Northampton again so I can go back.

I think I went here at least once a month during my freshman and sophomore year. The food is pretty good. I've had the chicken pad thai, the crunchy pad thai, and pineapple fried rice. This place never disappointed me.

It's pretty good food. The staff will not forget you (even if it's been years). But for Thai Food that's just above average, it's really expensive.

With every bite I find myself wanting more and more. Don't worry...that's a good thing. This place is pretty good--definitely beats the other places in the Northampton area. So c'mon down..the price is right and show some love.

Enjoy
