Okay but like, the sweet potato fries? The maple mayonnaise?! Oh my god. So good. This place is my and my boyfriend's go-to casual date night spot. Their burgers are cooked perfectly, and I always get mine with grilled onions because I just can't deviate, they are AMAZING. I thought the captain crunch chicken tenders would be disgusting, but they were SO GOOD. The cereal adds like a little bit of sweetness and the chicken is really good quality. Their small order of fries is more than enough to feed both my boyfriend and I. The service is amazing too. All the people working there are incredibly friendly and incredibly pleasant. I always know I'm going to get good service. Thinking about this place makes me hungry again.

Low price, high quality ingredients. Large fry is enough for three hungry adults! Burgers are pretty large - easily enough for a hungry adult. We ordered the buffalo blue cheese french fries. Lordy there was enough for four adults. Serious. Very rich. Local gem.

Good quality burgers, properly cooked (strangely hard to find such a thing). Good service. I would rate it a 4, but the sweet potato fries are an abomination. If you don't know how to properly prepare fries (or at leasy drain them), it serves no purpose to cut them fresh. The last thing I want when I order something fried is an oily pile of limp mushy food...

If you have been out drinking or if you just had a long day at work, then most likely you're craving a delicious burger... or at least I know I am! If this is you and you're in Northampton then Local Burger is the place to go. This burger shop located near the train bridge has delicious burgers and the option to get grass fed beef. Ordering here can be a nightmare at times especially late at night when bars are getting out but if you have a high tolerance then this will soak up whatever is in your system. The prices here are a bit high and as a previous review said, they're not gourmet burgers, but in my opinion they are the best in the area. Their Juicy Lucy burger is incredible and over all the staff is pretty funny but a bit to the point at times. The atmosphere is also great but as I said before, it can be a bit overwhelming. One last piece of advice, if you are ordering ahead parking is a nightmare so take a buddy with you, have them do a tuck and roll, and snatch them up later.

Solid in all areas. Best veggie burger around. The grass fed burger with green chili and sautéed onions is delish. The fries are addictive. Top burger spot in town, hands down

I'm a vegetarian, but they still had a few options for me, portobello mushroom or homemade veggie burger. I chose the veggie burger with tzatziki added mushrooms, very good! Also tried their sweet potato fries with maple mayo, ooh man, delicious! NoHo has a lot of great eateries, but for a quick and simple bite to eat, this was very good! Friends tried the hamburger and turkey burger, both enjoyed their choices! Service was pretty quick, especially since the place was packed!

Mindblowingly awesome!!! Has the best burgers, both meat and vegan, around with loads of unique menu choices (Capt'n crunch crusted hot dogs!!) Crazy good deep fried dill pickes, rolled in cornmeal that gives them a killer crunchy coating and the best sweet potato fires around! I had a veggie burger that, if I didn't know any better, I would have sworn it was meat! It was loaded with veggies, and grilled to perfection. My recommendation is to go there. Right now.

Where was this place when I was a student!? Burgers are tasty, high-quality, and affordably priced. Sweet potato fries with maple mayo? AMAZING. BYOB? Okay! Bonus points for being kid-friendly and having a high chair. If I were a student, I would bring some friends and a couple six packs here on a Thursday night, camp out on the front tables, and people watch while stuffing my face with their fries. Note: After visiting, multiple people told me how amazing their fried pickles and cap'n crunch chicken are. I am looking forward to my next visit already!

Given all the positive reviews, I've been meaning to try out Local Burger these last three years. Only now have gotten around to it. I can only look back now on these past few years with regret. What have I been eating? The staff promptly brought my burger out, and the burgers were cooked to precision pink or no pink depending on preference. The 6 oz patties were juicy. Both the burgers and handcut fries were perfectly spiced and seasoned. This is the late-night place to go.

Hard to believe the good reviews unless they are based on massive quantities (always a possibility in a college town). Burger itself was good, but the onions were simply sweated not grilled and the bun was not toasted, do it was soggy. The sweet potato fries (huge portion) were also soggy and pretty much inedible. And, the onion rings (again massive amount) needed four napkins to soak up grease. Not entirely successful, as eating just one left me feeling queasy. On the plus side, service was fast.

I'm the only person I can think of that doesn't get excited about Local Burger...and I LOVE burgers!! It's been a few years since I ate there (I remember not being overly impressed but can't remember the details) but the other day I was craving a perfect cheeseburger but needed to get it on the fly. I thought "YES! THIS is what Local Burger is for!!" and rushed right over. The gal at the register was awesome- nice and helpful. The wait was really long and I couldn't quite figure out why because they weren't slammed and there were a lot of staff in the kitchen. It took about 15 minutes to get my "to go" cheeseburger and fries. The family of 4 people who ordered after me got their food before me so I don't know if they misplaced my order or if it was sitting back there. Then it took me about 5 minutes to get back to the office and I sat down to eat right away. The fries were room temp and soggy, the burger was meh. I wasn't expecting the best with a to-go order but for the cost ($13ish) it's not worth it to try that again!

How does a fat, juicy, old fashioned hamburger sound? Now times that by 5 and that's local. Everything comes out hot so be sure not to burn your mouth. The hand cut fries are seasoned to perfection but the real deal is the Mac and cheese bites with chipotle dipping sauce. I ordered the juicy Lucy (hamburger with cheese inside it!). Warning, roll up your sleeves it's going to make a mess. I recommend that you take little bites before you get to the cheese so the inside of the burger cools off. Can't wait to go back for another!

  • Jessica C.

BIG fan of their burgers, fries, and onion rings. Also a special touch having old fashioned flavored sodas in bottles. I normally opt for a bacon cheeseburger with all the fixins and either fries or o-rings. The burgers always have a nice little char/grill taste to them. Havent had a burger in the valley that compares. The counter person and the guy that runs food normally have great attitudes, too. Prices are a little steep- about $10 for a burger when all is said and done. The only reason I didnt opt for 5 stars is the wait. The last time I was in there a row of people sat at the bar/counter and they were all able to order while sitting down even though there was a line of people that were waiting and ready to order. That's never happened before, so maybe I hit them on an off day. I've waited 30 mins for a burger, which seems excessive, but at least I know it's fresh!

I had the local burger which definitely ranks among the top 10 on my burger list at the moment. Well made. Sweet potato fries looked good but was a bit undercooked for my taste, the maple syrup mayo was and interesting addition though.

I've visited Local Burger on several occasions, but my latest outing was my first since embarking on a radically low carbohydrate diet. Since boarding the low carb train the prospect of stepping off to dine at a restaurant, formerly one of my favorite pastimes, has hung over me like a dark carb-filled donut...uhhh...I mean cloud. So when I was out and about in Northampton recently and the subject of food came up I felt slightly put upon to try to find a place where I and my friends could all get something satisfactory. Thankfully my homie, and fellow Yelper, Emeyesi suggested Local Burger, and after mulling their menu over in my mind for a moment I decided they might just work in conjunction with my new LCHF lifestyle. After standing in the long but briskly moving queue for a while I bellied up to the counter and asked the key question "Can I get a lettuce wrap instead of a bun"? The guy taking the orders got a pained look on his face and said "Sorry, we only have shredded lettuce". I was about to be really sad and probably looked like I was going to cry when he added "But we can give you the burger on a bed of lettuce", which wasn't quite what I was looking for but seemed perfectly reasonable. I ordered a Westhampton with onions, pickles and grilled chilis on a bed of lettuce, and a side of Sweet Potato Fries for the table to share. My "burger salad", as I took to calling it, was superb! Fresh, flavorful grass-fed beef, melty cheese, crisp bacon, and a pile of tasty veggies, with not a goddamn grain to speak of! And the Sweet Potato Fries, split amongst friends, were only a minor, if crispy, carb indulgence. Glad I could still enjoy something from my old way of life I left Local Burger a satisfied customer and vowed to return, safe in the knowledge that they'd always serve me up the good stuff and hold the bun.

Friendly staff. Good quality ingredients. Soggy french fries, cheap flavorless white bread buns. Definitely one whole star better than CrapDonald's - Whooptie DingDong!!

I visited this place on my way home from UMass Amherst. It was decent and the cap'n crunch coated hot dog was interesting but I'm not dreaming of this place at night. I did like the table in the front window overlooking the street and the neat bridge sculpture. I parked at the big stone lot around the corner. Just food for thought.

I love burgers (at every price), but I also must be in the minority when I say I detest this place. Everything is always squishy and tastes like peanut oil.

I can't wait to come back here. This is simply one of the best burger joints around. If you have never been, then you must go. I want to go back and get a milkshake.

  • Rick C.

I had a Juicy Lucy with fries and a side order of macaroni and cheese bites. Burger was juicy and oozing cheese from the center 12 oz mega delish, slamba jamba. I wish I had room for another one. Fresh cut fries can't be bad. Macaroni and cheese bites were a tasty addition to an already full meal.

Really great big burgers and easily customizable! Their french fries are really good as well and a small is enough for 2 :) Onion rings are the huge! Favorite part of this place - open late! So most people will swing by here after the bars and the lines get pretty long. Restaurant setting - open, hip, group friendly Service - awesome and friendly! They bring your food to the table by your reciept number. I've never seen them annoyed, considering the amount of drunk people. Highly suggest the "local burger"!

  • Penelope B.

Really great burgers! Servers are friendly! Westy is the best on the menu. The meat is fresh. They also have milkshakes. Their onion rings are freakishly huge. Some people may enjoy it that way though. Other than that, good food and decent price.

Awesome burgers, awesome service! Well done Local! In MA for a family event and wanted a great spot to grab a bite to eat and Local was recommended by several people. We'll be back. You'll live it!

I have been eating at this place almost weekly since I moved to Northampton. It is very, very good, and my #1 choice for introducing my friends and family to good eats in the area. They aways love it. Probably the best burger I have ever had, but I usually get the delicious Captain Crunch hotdog and sweet potato fries (the dipping sauce is amazing!) The fried mac and cheese bites are also really yummy.

  • Steph R.

I'm a sucker for good crispy fried chicken. After hearing many good reviews about this place, I finally gave it a try. The capt'n crunch chicken tenders are freakin delicious!! The sauce was on the heavy side unfortunately, but I could definitely overlook that with the serious crunchiness of the chicken. Reminds me of the captain crunch french toast I had in Maryland - which was also heavenly. I definitely want to return for their burgers.

  • Pamela T.

The food is so good here. I always have the turkey burger and it's great. The rolls are always super soft. The fries are handcut and my favorite anywhere. Everyone I go with that has beef burgers is always super satisfied with it. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. All the condiments are out so if you need more you don't have to wait to have it brought to you. And of course the fact that all their ingredients are local, is just a bonus! The only downside is it can be hard to grab a seat, but we always manage. If you're looking for quality, casual, quick food, than local burger is a must try!

As a vegetarian, it's really a challenge finding good veggie burgers. Hands down, this place has the best veggie burgers. The French fries are good but a bit on the greasy side I thought. The cole slaw is awesome! I would definitely come back. Casual, nice atmosphere and the wait staff is super nice. Next time I'm going to try their fried pickles.

Note, this review was from an experience in 2011. After a long day of work, I went to this place to order a burger with fries. It seemed nice knowing Northampton had a burger joint. I ordered my food and proceeded to wait, and wait, and wait. The evening I went there was not even busy, yet the workers seemed busier talking to friends than making my meal. Finally got my burger. The burger, quite honestly, was like any burger I could get at a mainstream chain restaurant. The fries and burger were just not that exceptional. Since then, I have had Local Burger a few times, especially at food fairs. Some of their food options have been great at those fairs, like their Captain Crunch infused buffalo chicken wings. And, I will commend them for their drive to have local, grass-fed burgers. I just was not that impressed.

I've been to Local Burger several times & I always seem to be left wanting. They have a great spot, use good ingredients, have lots of options but it's just never been that good for me. I really like turkey burgers so I always gravitate towards them. I always end up with a unappetizing burger with a weird burnt/charred taste. Just not appetizing. I'm also partial to sweet potato fries but I like them to be fry-like & these seemed more like steamed sweet potato slices. Same thing with the regular fries...they just never seem to get a stand-up fry with some crunch...just sad, limp, oily ones. On the bright side, the fried pickles were excellent! Crunchy, salty, pickle perfection. Didn't even need the dipping sauce. How can you perfectly fry pickle slices but murder fries?? If I want a solid burger & killer fries, I really have to take my money to Five Guys or even Scotti's or Tom's. My dollars go further & the food is better.

Some really delicious items but feeling misled... The only Local item is the grass fed burger. Anytime I've asked where something else is from, they say US FOODS :( and lately there is a cleaning solution type aroma that overwhelms the food on the plate. I want to love you Local Burger and Burgy - I have done high standards but come on! Be Local!!

Best burgers in the Pioneer Valley! Love this place and really wished I had discovered it sooner when I was an undergrad. I got the Westhampton burger (bacon, cheddar cheese, bbq sauce, ranch dressing) with a side of french fries and beer battered onion rings to share. They ask if you want your burger "pink" or "no pink". At first I was a little thrown off because I'm used to hearing the standard "Rare, medium rare," etc until it occurred to me that "pink" must mean medium rare and "no pink" meant medium. I opted for "pink" and the burger was SO deliciously juicy. It was a bit messy to eat so I ate in a circle to try to maximize on the experience of my wonderful burger. The fries and onion rings are exactly how I like 'em -- fresh and crunchy. Not old or soggy at all. My friend ordered the Capt'n Crunch Chicken tenders and omg... who would have thought adding crushed up Captain Crunch cereal to your regular batter would make your chicken so delectably crunchy and add just the right amount of sweetness? Something tells me, this is a best seller. If you're in Northampton visiting and want an affordable, delicious lunch, definitely come here. You won't be disappointed :)

So this place is good. Everything is a la carte and it's a nice level in between fast food and pretentious gourmet burgers. Get the Buffalo fries. They are sooooooooo good. Very spicy, tons of bleu cheese.

    (4)
  • Anthony S.

Hand cut fries were awesome. Burgers and everything associated with burgers tasted like the gas grill (the peppers, onions, mushrooms). Service was fast but really disappointing after how much this place is talked about. Maybe the grill just needed to be cleaned this day, but seriously, the overwhelming taste on two burgers was gas grill.

If you die, and wind up in heaven... I imagine it tastes like the burgers here!!

  • Charlotte S.

I find myself dreaming about the Westhampton burger, and then I wake up and am sad I'm no longer in the valley. Takes a while to order, and get your food (this is NOT fast food), but the staff is very friendly, one of the owners/brothers/father is usually floating around, and the food is worth it.

    (5)
  • Laura W.

Onion rings are grease-tastic and super delicious in a "terrible for you" sort of way...burgers are good quality. Plenty of interesting combinations! They have a creative array of milkshakes and sodas (lime rickey!) as well!

  • Beatrice P.

Dang!!! Nice to see places popping up here do so well. I got the Westhampton burger. Delicious fries. Would go back.

  • John F.

The place definitely has a college-town vibe, with a no-frills interior that's been worn a little thin by co-eds over the years. It's not a first date place for sure, unless that's how you roll. But my burger was good, really good, and I took it as a good sign that it actually took several minutes to make it. Would def go back.

  • Sara R.

I am really torn here because I love this place, and their burgers- but last time I was there I noticed they don't toast their buns, which would really make it a true 4-star place. I'n sure you could probably ask for toasted, but it would be a nice addition. Otherwise- I love their local burgers, and delicious sides! When driving through I make sure to stop here, and actually get excited upon this very thought. If you're craving a burger in the area, definitely check this place out!!

This is the best burger place in the Pioneer Valley. They have a great assortment of specialty burgers or you can build your own. They also offer grass-fed burgers from a local farm in Easthampton. The fries are fresh & the perfect combo of crisp and soft & the sweet potato fries are equally as delicious. The local ice cream they offer is also super tasty. Try the salted caramel pretzel-yum! And to top of tasty food, they have one of the best staffs around. Everyone who works at Local Burger is friendly, helpful & fun to chat with. They get food out quickly, even during the lunch & dinner rushes. They all go above & beyond to make sure you enjoy your experience at their restaurant. Our family loves coming here!

    (5)
  • Aaron T.

Going down a notch, yet again. Meat is overcooked, every time. That's a cardinal sin--esp when they go to the trouble of sourcing grass-fed beef. At least do everyone (the patrons...the cow) the dignity of serving the burger at the correct temperature.

  • Ayelet R.

I have to commend Local Burger for having the best veggie burger I have ever tasted. To be honest, I'm not usually a huge fan of veggie burgers, but since I don't eat meat, I have wound up having to have a fair amount while eating at similar places. Most burger restaurants obviously couldn't care less about how their veggie burger tastes, basically serving a microwaved Boca burger. I get it, vegetarians aren't exactly the niche market for these restaurants, but I still feel like I'm getting the short end of the stick. That's definitely not the case here - what you get is a crispy, warm and flavorful garden burger that totally made me forget how tasteless and stale most of its rivals are. And as an extra bonus for us herbivores, they even have a few veggie burgers to choose from! A point off because for a counter service burger place it's a little pricey and the fries cost extra (seriously, who wants a burger without the fries?) and while they're good, they're also seriously oversalted. But besides that, it's the one burger joint I would actually choose to go to.

  • Vittoria B.

This is a place to come in for a quick burger. Bright lights, fast service. The burgers are good, but they did exhibit one of my burger pet peeves...an un-toasted bun which was on the cold side. Not a good companion to my hot burger. Next time I'll ask them to toast it (but this should just happen). The buffalo fries were amazing. Hot, spicy, cheesy, goodness.

I wanted to love Local Burger, it had everything going for it, the place is cool, has a good amount of seating, inexpensive prices, great variety of food, good service, but, unfortunately, it is a bad bad place to go if you have peanut allergies. I'll start with the good: The woman behind the counter was very friendly and our burgers were fresh, tasty and exactly as described. Unfortunately, I had to take off 3 stars because the ONLY oil they cook with is peanut oil (it says so on the menu). One of the people in our party is allergic to peanuts, and unlike most other places, they do not have a substitute oil to cook fries, onion rings and other foods in to accommodate people with peanut allergies, frankly, they don't even have a substitute like a bag of chips or something. In this day and age, given the large amount of people with peanut allergies, they should be a lot more accommodating to those with life threatening food allergies. Sadly, I will not be able to return unless this changes.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Great fun choices on the menu (Captain Crunch Chicken Tenders, fries w/ gravy, fried pickles, Amherst Burger, Veggie Burger) is what we ordered & EVERYTHING was great! Staff was gracious & funny, it was BYOB which was great! Only complaint was when the door opened we froze (it was a cold Saturday) Can't wait to go back! NO Complaints!

My first experience at Local Burger was not very good. My friend and I wandered in on a fairly busy Sunday afternoon. There were several empty tables but other diners had taken the chairs to their tables. Maybe they should keep extra chairs in the back for that reason because we just had to stand there looking like dweebs. I ordered the Portobello Burger and that was my mistake. It was as slimy and slick as a fish and it kept sliding off of my bun. I couldn't even eat it. The consistency and taste were too much for me. If I go back I'll be sure to try the grass-fed burgers.

Overall a 3.5 Tasty, sizable and well made burgers, and enormous and flavorful onion rings to boot. The ordering process and seating process is a bit to chaotic. While I am used to long lines and chaos in NY, this place seems to create this atmosphere for no reason at all. The inside is large and can fit plenty of more customers for seating then they have laid out. People were constantly on the hunt for seats and the service was pretty slow. We finally found a seat and about 20 minutes later got our order, of which a portion (the onion rings) came out well after we have started eating your burgers Got the Local Burger, Westhampton Burger, Onion Rings and Soda The Local Burger, was a winner, with two patties, a soft and sturdy bun chock full of sesame seeds, bacon, cheddar, mushroom and onion. The burger was moist, had a great char grilled taste, and was messy as all hell (good thing in this case). Better then the average burger I have had for sure, but had way to much flavor going on. The onion rings on the other hand WERE something to write home about. Each onion ring was larger then my burger, deep fried perfectly in a flavorful beer batter, that did not take away from the onion ring itself. They were served with a chipotle ketchup which was pretty good. All in all 30 Bucks for the portions and quality was money pretty well spent here, however I have had many burgers of much higher quality and taste for this same price range For the area this is a good burger spot and I would come back to try some of the other burgers when in the area again

Looking for a quick bite to eat, Local Burger is definitely a go to. Keeping with its name they do use local ingredients and their menu features burgers name after the area. The sweet potato fries with maple sauce is a must & the hand-cut fries just by themselves are incredible. Also, if you eat meat - add bacon to EVERYTHING.

This is, hands down, me and my husband's favorite burger place. Hot, juicy, made to order burgers...quick/courteous service...simple but well made food....GIANT onion rings...good fried pickles...sweet potato fries as an option...and LOCATION! After you stuff yourself you can go walk it off in town. Also, this place is open really late on weekends, which has proved very convenient

I got the grass fed burger, pink, with bleu cheese. It was very good but I wish I could order it done medium. Their option is only pink or not pink. The fries were very good. I think their peanut oil helps a lot. I also got one of their local root beers. I liked it but tasted a hint of blueberry which seemed odd. Overall it was a good experience and I look forward to returning. Next time, I'll get grilled onions and no pink just to see what difference it makes.

I'm a vegetarian and I look for an excuse to go to Local. Firstly, I support their use of locally and organically raised beef. Secondly, they make a mean veggie burger. Thirdly, I have dreams about their french fries. And they are one of the few places that offers malt vinegar to go on them. Portions are humungous so go in with a hearty appetite. These are some of the biggest burgers I've ever seen. The basket is fries is piled so high, good luck getting through the whole thing (I can).

I came here with a friend because someone else had said that this place was good. I would come here again, but it definitely wouldn't be my first choice. When we came in, the ambiance was really nice, a cute burger diner interior. The items on the menu were really creative with loads of interesting flavors. The burger I orders was one of the first one on the specialty menu and i was surprised how amazing it tasted. The prices were fitting for the size of the portions. The flavors were amazing, the beef patty was thick and juicy, and the barbecue mixed well with the ranch flavor. The amount of topping they give you are really generous. Maybe a little too generous because my burger fell apart. Their fries are a little plain, but that is what ketchup is for! I also ordered a mint Oreo 16' oz shake and it was amazing! The mint flavor was perfect and the Oreo gave it a sweet kick. Overall my experience there was great.

When in Northampton Local Burger is the place for a quick lunch or dinner. The sweet potato fries are some of the best. The burgers are made fresh just like they were before McDonalds came along. They offer several types of meat.

Local is one of my favorite restaurants in Northampton. It's kind of like the go-to place for the all-American experience--amazing burgers, hand-cut fries, fried pickles, and my favorite special, fried mac-n-cheese bites. I don't think I've ever gotten anything here I didn't like. If you're not afraid of the calories you're already wracking up, you can add a milkshake. Delicious. The atmosphere is fun, the people who work there have always been nice, and it's BYOB. (They WILL card you, obviously, so don't try anything stupid if you're underage.) If you're over 21, I'm not sure there is anything better than sitting by the open windows on a sunny day with a cold beer and burger at Local Burger. The one thing that is important to know about is that it's a popular place and sometimes seating is limited. Prepare accordingly.

Absolutely delicious pumpkin Oreo milkshake and a tasty turkey burger! Definitely check out local burger if you can!

  • Todd B.

Awesome place - reasonably priced, great food, and friendly service. I got a turkey burger, which was perfectly cooked, with just the right amount or char; an order of sweet potato fries with maple mayo (sounds like a weird combination, but really worked well); and their house-made coleslaw - very fresh tasting. Definitely a place worth checking out.

  • Marina S.

The burger was tasty and not dry like so many other spots, but I don't see what the fuss is about really. The onion rings were massive and though yelpers seem to be wowed by that, I think it does an onion ring a disservice. I was hoping for a crispy crunchy onion ring but instead its more of thick cooked onion wrapped in oily dough. The wait was horrendous; over a half hour after putting the order in for a burger. Also, the seating arrangements are inconvenient, people were standing all around scavenging for chairs.

Just tried this burger joint for the first time tonight. I heard lots of positives about the place. I was disappointed to say the least, I had the Local Burger. Very greasy and not much flavor even in the topping. I expected a lot more from a place I heard so much about. The buffalo fries were just ok. I will say the staff was friendly, prompt, and courteous.

Understand . . . This is not a fast food joint. This is not a Burger King burger or McDonald's or even Red Robin. No gimmicks. This is a cooked to order, hot and juicy, smoking hot off the grill kind of burger experience. You know, the kind of " oh, I ate too much to want dinner tonight" kind of burger experience. Unless you're starving, stick to the Angus burger, one patty. Order it pink. Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle are your choices of toppings. It's all good. Fries are hand cut, fresh and crispy with just enough crispy ends to hold the ketchup. Enough to feed three hungry people. Cheap, it is not. Worth every penny? You betcha!

Great service and good food. My only issue with the place is that the building is a little small considering the place's popularity.

Cool place, burgers are just okay. Love the sweet potato fries and byob policy. Worth it for the appetizer/ sides, maybe not for the burgers though.

I love Local Burger. The food is great, the prices are fair. Portions (especially on fries) are huge. The staff is cool and friendly. The food is locally sourced, which is an added bonus. Unfortunately, Local Burger is a victim of its own success. It's far too small. There are usually lines, and forget getting a seat. The food can take a long time when they are hopping, and often you won't get your fries at the same time as your burger. It's not too bad at lunch, but dinnertime? Yikes. If they had 3 times the seating and twice the cooking staff, I would eat here way more often!! Still, a solid 4 stars!

Brace for impact, if you order a Local burger! Descent ingredients, basic recipe, all Americsn menu. If in the area and looking for a burger, definitely check this place out.

What a disappointment. We came here after reading all the positive reviews and ordered a turkey burger and a veggie burger (trying to be marginally healthier). We were informed the wait would be 20 minutes. ??? It was 5:30 pm and while the restaurant was doing a good business it was by no means busier than an average day at Shake Shack, b. good or Tasty Burger, all of which are faster and tastier. The wait ended up being 30 minutes and while my veggie burger was fine my husband's turkey burger was charred beyond recognition. Overall, while the menu looks great (particularly the sides) I don't see myself returning. Bummer.

Of all things to be completely emasculated by, a burger never crossed my mind. But, as most tales of misfortune go, it was, indeed, that which I least expected. Starving after a day of zip-lining, the sexiest Magellan this side of topsoil was tasked with finding something fast, on our current course and locally approved. Local Burger, be thy name. Very counter intuitive (literally, nyuknyuk!) and with a bit of a 50s kick, the interior welcomes all, especially those carrying booze (it's BYOB). Burgers, fries and shakes abound, an iPod spinning family friendly tracks and bottomless sodas from self-serve fountains, check, check and check. On slate, the Juicy Lucy sounds a little daunting - 12oz of beef that just ate a handful of American cheese, tossed on the griddle thus creating a pocket of molten dairy that will explode on your person and likely do this: threadbombing.com/data/m… Therefore, I opted for the Turkey Farmhouse Burger - fresh ground gobbler with cheddar, bacon and the maple mayo we decidedly licked clean whilst downing hand cut sweet potato fries. She, on the other hand, ordered the Juicy Lucy. That jerk. While my turkey burger rated just fine, her JL (which I had the good fortune to sample) is the epitome of food porn: steamy, meaty and dripping everywhere. Need I mention the fries again? Order them, extra sauce. My one regret? After the spectacle of watching my better half destroy Local's behemoth, I hadn't the heart to order a $5 Mexican chocolate shake. Seriously, I didn't have the heart. My ticker jumped ship after one bite of that Juicy Lucy, and yet, she housed it. God, I love that woman.

Came to visit Smith and decided to give Local Burger a try. My burger was ok, didn't really like the charring, seemed overdone and not as juicy as I would have hoped. My wife's turkey burger was actually very good with a nice meaty taste. Sweet potato fries were fine. Onion rings were huge but really, really greasy...got through maybe two of them. Don't really expect to go back when we visit again...but the place was packed so maybe it's just a preference thing amd a lot of people seem to like it a lot. Also, I think it's best to avoid giving money to some of the homeless there...gave a few bucks to a lady and after eating and making our way back to the car, she was on her iphone...cracked me up!

Amazing homemade veggie burger, probably best I've ever had. Fries are great as well. nice atmosphere, during lunch a good mix of families or 20 something's, And wonderful late night stop on a Saturday night after enjoying the Northampton bar scene. Love the place

It's loud, no kids menu, and menu itself is limited. Heard the food was worth the drive. Stay tuned for my review and I'll let you know if it was. Burger was good. Fries were worth passing over. The vinegar they offer is in a spray bottle that could be confused for a chemical cleaner. Was a weak vinegar, y fries were soggy by the time I got a twinge of vinegar out of even one of my limp sticks. No much potato taste, for sure after the other reviews, I was shocked the fries were soooo, limp and tasteless. I enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the street (well, near street) seating options. As for the seating.... UNCOMFORTABLE! We had to finish our meal a little sooner th an intended due to the back and buttock pain, we were both experiencing. The menu was impossible to decode. I looked frantically for a basket full of decoder rings by the register and found nothing but a employee rushing me through decoding my order. I would return but bring a but pillow, my own vinegar, and look online at their menu where it is printed in legible print. Bring a sweater if going at night. If the front is open, a citronella candle may be useful as well. If your looking for piece and quiet, Local Burger is NOT the place to find it.

I have no idea what happened to Local Burger, but it used to be my go-to burger spot in Northampton. If I had used Yelp last year and before, this place would have gotten 4 stars. Unfortunately, after last night, I won't be returning. I came into the restaurant around 9:30pm on a Tuesday. There was only one other group in the restaurant, and several people in the kitchen, including the owner. I ordered a cheeseburger, pink. Upon receiving the burger, not only was it cooked through and well done, it just didn't taste the way they used to. I don't normally send food back, but if you're a burger place, and you only offer two ways to cook the meat "pink" or "no pink" there shouldn't really be much room to fuck up. I waited another 15 minutes to receive my next burger, which was cooked the exact same way as the first. I threw it in the trash and walked out hungry. If only Kathy's were still open around the corner... the meat might not have been local, but at least Kreg knew how to cook a burger.

I came here 3-4 years ago a bunch of times and it was hands down the best burger place I had ever tried. Saw all these low Yelp reviews and wanted to try it myself. Man.... What a bummer! Seems like the original visionary for local burger is no longer around keeping things in order. Food quality on my visit tonight was severely lacking. The burger was cooked over a GREASE FIRE and all I could taste was the burnt grease flavor. It was really nasty. I could see the grill from the seats and it was pretty clear the chef didn't know what he was doing... he was placing burgers right over what was clearly grease flames. Gross! C'mon man. Let that shit burn out before you add another burger. The sweat potato fries were not cooked like we remember... super greasy. Really bummed out about how the quality has dropped so significantly. I am not coming back here until the reviews pick up or a sign is out front reading "OWNER BACK FROM A LONG VACATION. SORRY EVERYONE."

Tons of Valley-goers love this place (maybe it's because they don't frequent burger joints a lot) and because this one is downtown and has local, grass-fed beef, they find it gourmet (or at least hip) enough to patronize. The staff was friendly and courteous, the wait was reasonable, and the interior was clean, but crowded and worn (which I don't particularly mind). The burgers were not as good as everyone in the Valley says they are, but they are definitely better than most, and it's the best burger you can get in the Valley. Their burgers are good, but aren't something I can't live without. It's worth saying I've only had better burgers in one other place, (which is not close enough to Northampton to warrant competition). Fries are meh, but I love that they have flavored sodas with real cane sugar in glass bottles.

All the food is so good, but the seating sucks and the wait is always long. I recommend calling ahead and then picking up a half hour or more later and not trying to sit in the tiny restaurant.

their fries (both sweet potato and regular potato) are perfect. the captain crunch chicken is a neat option. plus it's open late, which is great, because this is the kind of food that hits the spot at 2 am.

Meh. My boyfriend loves it here, but I find the burgers to be overcooked and the fries weirdly limp and oily. They've been out of grass fed beef the past 3 times we've visited.

While on my work travels to Northampton, I had to have a burger. You see, in the magical land of truly public healthcare to the north, our burgers are always cooked to well done, except for the rare (ha! get it?) place that dares to risk the wrath of health inspectors in the name of a juicy burger. With that in mind, coming across Local on Main St. made it an obvious choice for my second supper in "NoHo" * Walking in, it was immediately welcoming with cool, burger- and food-related art adorning the exposed brick walls and jazz music playing in the background. There's a constant line while my co-worker and I were there, but it was never out of control and moved along quickly. After perusing the menu, I settled on the 6oz grass-fed patty made with local beef, naturally, applewood smoked bacon and American cheddar to top it off, in addition to the automatic toppings of lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions. To complete my Americana meal, I got an order of their hand-cut fries and a pop. One downfall of the place seems to be the ordering system and/or how they expedite meals. There is a fairly long wait for my food, and my co-worker, who ordered immediately before me, is done his meal before mine ever arrived. As we were given numbers when we ordered, it was easy to tell that the kitchen was all over the place when orders well before and after mine come out of the kitchen in a haphazard manner. That being said, once my meal arrived, it was well worth the wait. The beef itself was automatically cooked to medium, with a good beefy flavour and was decently juicy and not dry as some grass-fed beef can be. It was well seasoned and grill marks added a little to the flavour, although there's no crust or significant char. The cheddar melted nicely although it was quite mild and doesn't have the salty and friendly tanginess that one likes on a burger. The bacon was smoky and thick, although it wasn't quite as crisp as I would have preferred. The pickles were thick and had a great crunch, a far cry from the floppy pieces of brined cucumber that you get from the grocery store. The heavily sesame seeded bun held up to the task of the burger and didn't 't get in the way either. Last but not least were the fries, which had a nice crispness to them and were perfectly salted already. Even better, they maintained their crispness until the last fry, not that that took too long. Barring a few glitches, my Local experience was solid. If I had known about their BYOB policy, I would have brought some of my own to imbibe and Jack up my Coke. *I use this term derisively. Northampton should not be called NoHo. SoHo is called what it is as it is the area SOuth of HOuston St. NoHa would make more sense. Just because the town is kinda artsy, doesn't mean you get to pervert the nickname of somewhere else. Quit it.

A good number of us have done the après booze pilgrimage to Local. No big D. Some more than they would like to admit. Now I do enjoy an old fashioned greasy burg after 1am whilst ham-boned, however I soberly stumbled across the buffalo fries today. Rocked my shit AND you eat them with a fork. Mind is blown. Next time you see a man frenetically shoving buffalo fries in his mouth and sobbing, 98% chance it will be me.

I thought this place was pretty good! The interior feels like a Potbelly sandwich shop. Pretty good hamburgers though they were really expensive. The grass fed one tasted good and the others sounded good. The door has a bunch of "voted best burger" signs on it which I found surprising (it's not THAT good), but it's still pretty yummy.

I'm editing my review, because the last time I was at Local Burger they had a special of fried cheese curds... and they changed my life. Please make these a regular item! I'd even give up the deep fried mac and cheese bites for it. Added another star to my review, because their sides are getting serious. Fried cheese curds are love. Please let them stay. ------- The first few visits here were underwhelming... but I revisited about 6mos ago and I've since had some really great experiences here. The Westhampton burger rocks. I also love the fried mac and cheese bites. Most of the staff is pretty typical, but there's one guy who runs the register who is fabulous - incredibly friendly. I don't know his name, but I'll try to figure it out and edit this review just to make sure his employers know he completely rocks and his great energy changes the whole atmosphere of the place. Whoever he is, Local Burger is seriously lucky to have him. Okay that's the love... there are a few areas where Local Burger misses... the fried pickles and sweet potato fries aren't so great. The pickle batter is 'meh' and the fries are SO soggy (though the maple sauce with them is insanely good!) I also didn't have a great experience with the milkshakes (it was just melted ice cream in a cup).

I'm sorry this is the only late night burger joint in Northampton. They must not clean their grills very well because their burgers have this strong "grill" burnt flavor. I have given them a few chances but after my last experience of being treated rudely, waiting 30 minutes too long, and getting a "no pink" when I wanted "pink" (ps is that even proper English?) I will not be returning.

I like this place. It does get very busy and their service tends to be really slow, but hey, it means they're popular. Their burgers are juicy and filling, and are cooked right for the most part; when they're busy, it gets iffy. I usually add the sauteed onions to my burger, and they're really soft and has the onion-y sweetness to it. One thing I don't approve of is their buns, hence the 3-star rating. The staff here lines up the buns in their workstations so that they can flip the patties on and get it served right up, but this means that the buns are cold. When I pick up my burger and take my first bite, it feels weird because the buns are really cold and the meat is hot. It would be nice if the buns are lightly grilled, or at least heated up warm.

Simply put...the best burger I've ever had, hands down. I ordered the burger for which the establishment is named. It was huge and normally I would have left at least half of it on the plate. But I could not stop eating it. It was just that good. Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly cooked. I'm salivating as I write this.

The burgers are wonderful, you can bring your own beer, and it's open late. The tables are really small and the sweet potato fries are very sweet. Pricing is okay, not great, and the service is friendly and fast, except when I was rudely told by the manager that I could not get a BLT because he makes the menu and it's not on the menu. One other time a manager was screaming at an ex-employee who was arguing with him to get out of the store. One time they forgot to put the beef in my burger, so it was just bun and condiments. So it's not really a fine dining experience, but the food is great for a casual setting. Update: Came back multiple times after this and everything was perfect. They have improved, will definitely come back.

While a student at Smith, I sometimes came here on Friday nights or late on Saturdays to get some tasty and unhealthy food, namely a cheeseburger and fries. It's really good when hungry and only so-so when not that hungry. Mostly, my friends and I came here for the atmosphere I guess. To me, it's a typical college-type place that serves sub-par food at OK prices (OK for Northampton) and thrives on the appetites of mostly college students to keep it going. I only went with my friends. I would never go alone because I was and I'm just not that into greasy food. The portions are small for the USA, though.

Hands down, this is the best burger joint in the pioneer valley. Lots of different burgers to choose from and they're always cooked just right, killer fries and milkshakes, and a short waiting time. It can get pretty packed late at night when all the drunk college kids are hungry.

Don't let the decor keep you from experiencing a little piece of burger heaven. It is crowded and you will have to stake out a place to sit but it is worth it. The burgers and the fries are way above average. If ground beef is your thing and you are in the area I would strongly recommend the Local. The service is also great, fast order taking and they bring your items just as they roll out of the kitchen. Overall this is a must for the meat-lovers.

One of my favorite things in this world is a good plate of sweet potato fries. So many folks I've talked to have raved about the sweet fries here. I had mildly high expectations and was excited to try them. Man, I'm not sure at all if I just kept hitting it on bad days but the sweet fries were sort of just a mushy, floppy pile of starch and oil. If you had blindfolded me, I wouldn't have been able to tell what kind of potato it was, just tasted like greasy-but-not-in-a-good-fair-good-kind-of-greasy regular fries. I've given it a shot twice and both times couldn't even get through a quarter of the order, so I am letting go of this being the utopia for good sweet fries like so many claim. The Burgers, though, yes, definitely go for it. I have had two different burgers that were tasty. It does get crowded, though, so pick an off time or steel yourself to be jostled or wait a long time.

Local Burger is off tha membrane! BYOB! The spot is BYOB! Bring some alcohol to chug while you dwag amazing local burgers and fries! I always get the juicy lucy, which is the holy burger with hot cheese cooked inside! The only place on the east coast I've ever seen a juicy lucy! Its always a little packed in here, but that's a good thing! Prices are good for the area! Try it and like I said, bring some BEERZ!

Not that good. The burgers had an odd texture and a fake smelling flame-broiled thing going on. The pickles were great as were the fries. The best thing by far was the service. The counter man with the spiky hair was very helpful and kind. Definitely not going again.

Very good burger which was not at all dry like some other burgers I've had. Just the right size as well-- I'm not a huge eater and I often have trouble finishing burgers at restaurants, but this one got me just the right amount of full. I'm not really sure what "grass-fed" is supposed to taste like, but the meat did taste tenderer and juicier than in other burgers. The fries were also quite good-- not too oily and greasy. I had a taste of the chicken tenders and they were okay, but nothing special. We did need to wait a while for the orders, but this wasn't a huge deal.

Overall I'd give this place a 4.5 based on my experiences thus far. I'm a vegetarian, therefore only really able to speak to the veggie burgers, but I've heard positive reviews on the meat patties when I've gone with friends. Pros: - BYOB: Saves money, kind of fun - Cost: Totally reasonable, like 6-10 depending on the burger that you buy - Veggie burger: Made by LB, some of the best I've had - Onion rings: Post-consumption regret, but thats only because you've likely eaten way too much food. - Add-ons optional: The only page they took from a place like McDonalds is that you are able to buy only what you want to get. So if you only want a burger, you just get a burger. If you want fries, you add them to your order for a small additional cost. - Open late: Open when bars let out on most nights, can make for a fun place to hang out and enjoy some food before trekking home. Cons: - I agree with Leo K. that the ordering is a little chaotic, but not really anything that has ever been a huge problem for me. *One thing to note is that you cannot BYOB after a certain hour. I'm not sure what time this is, but I'm guessing after 11:00pm? Enjoy!

I love, love, love, love this place. I only allow myself to get Local Burger every once in awhile because if I didn't have any restrictions, I'd eat there everyday. I always get the Farmhouse Turkey Burger with the heavenly maple mayo, or the oh-so-deliciously-sweet Captain Crunch chicken tenders. Followed by a small sweet potato fry, with EXTRA maple mayo on the side.... I'm saying I love the maple mayo so much, if it was socially acceptable to buy the maple mayo in a cup, I'd sip it like a fine wine. Just kidding. Kind of. Its BYOB, so that's always a plus. All in all... A great place to eat anytime.

I revisited Local Burger recently, the prices have gone up and the quality of the food has gone down. can't say that I am impressed anymore. The food is above McDonalds but below Chili's and you can get a burger and fries at Chilis for 11 bucks, you really can't do that at Local anymore. it's like they stopped seasoning the burgers, they just grill them and hand them out. I ordered one "some pink" as usual, the inside was cold and raw... that's not "pink" thats' rare.... they lost 3 stars on this visit according to me so I won't be going back to see what's happened to them in the future.

I was vsiting my parents in the area. I live in boston and am not crazy about the area and feel it is very limited, but This is one of the best restaurants for burgers in Northampton area. No it wont compete with boston but thats not a fair comparison. They have unique style compared to other restaurant's in the northampton area. I had the teriyaki which was surprisingly good. I give it five star because for the area its really as good as i think it gets.

This place stays open until 3am. We were out and about at a local bar until last call. Then, we stopped here for some munchies. The lines here can get long from the night crowd. However, we were able to find seats. The burger was ok (nothing too spectacular). We also ordered the onion rings (very thick and oily) and the Captain Crunch chicken tenders which were slightly over fried.

You see, I'm usually not a burger fan, but hearing about the infamous Juicy Lucy made me cave. The meat was down right fresh and the American cheddar cheese oozing out from the beef patty and down into your basket makes it almost surreal. Additionally, FRIED PICKLES?! Yes, fried pickles !! They're fried perfectly, it's sensational. The tangy salty taste blends together perfectly.

If you're really just looking for a good burger with some interesting options, good Americana sides (fries, fried pickles, cole slaw, etc), then Local Burger is the place to be. I live on main street and love nothing more every once in a while to go later in the evening and get a hot dog, throw some cole slaw ontop (don't knock it till you try it!) and split a basket of fries with some friends. It's good, they care about their ingredients, and it's simple. They have pretty tasty shakes as well and it's BYOB! What more could you want? The ONLY negative thing I could say about LB is that you shouldn't expect to order, get your burger in 5 min and then go. It is a busy place and you should be prepared to wait at least 10 minutes when there are people there. For the quality of the food though- it's worth it.

Local Burger, located on the corner of Main and Pearl Street, is excellently situated to serve denizen pedestrians and also truckers from far away. When I walked through the door, I immediately felt peaceful and pleased in their very chic yet laid-back atmosphere. Traditional black diner stools and black powder-coated dining room chairs dot the checkerboard floor, and the electronic jukebox plays everything from long Beatles playlists to jazz. The menu, written on a wraparound chalkboard near the cashier, is full of excellent options for meatavores and vegetarians alike (don't quote me, vegans, but I think you can eat the fried sides because they're made with peanut oil). There's a case of cold beverages (non-alcoholic, though they have a license to BYO), as well as a self-serve fountain drink station. Order at the counter and the nice folks - including the owner - that ring you up will ask you if you want your burger "pink" or "not pink." The lack of pretension is as appreciated as the quality of the offerings. This is not a greasy spoon, but is as welcoming as any I've ever been to. Regular and sweet potato fries - as well as onion rings, chicken wings, and fried pickles - come to your table in a traditional red or black plastic diner basket, lined with black-and-white checked paper that matches the floor. What else comes to your table? If you're me, it's likely to be a burger made from animals who lived and grazed freely...less than ten miles from the grill. The organic chicken and beef comes from Chicoine Farm, a local organic farm, and there are non-local choices for the meat, as well, but I've never tasted any of it. This restaurant sources as much of its raw materials from local purveyors as it can, and I personally want to eat as much locally/family-owned restaurant goodness as I possibly can (I belong to the local food co-op and have a CSA farmshare...when it's not wintertime, sigh). The portions of sides (I've had the beer-battered onion rings, sweet potato fries, regular potato fries, and fried pickles) are very generous. Everything has such a robust taste. The burgers are served on sesame-seed buns that are always very soft, and quite adequately soak up most of the juice from my pink patties. The meat itself is not overseasoned, which is wonderful, since the taste of local, organic meat really *is* incredible. It's fresh, and doesn't hang in my mouth like lesser burger tastes can. I usually get a local hamburger with cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce. This is enough to fill me up when I'm famished, but not so much that I feel like I'm going to have meat fever afterwards (you know, that sweaty, raised-temperature feeling you get when you eat too much tasty tasty meat?), which is always a plus. The size of the burger - I never have a ruler with me when I eat at Local Burger, but it looks to be about 5.5" in diameter - leads to me dripping meat juices all over myself unless I 1) wrap the burger's butt in a napkin, or 2) cut the burger in half. I've never taken home a doggy bag. Tonight, one of the owners gave us a chocolate chip cookie to try; he said they're considering adding fresh cookies to their menu. It was perfect: soft, with a heady vanilla taste, and a little salty crispiness at the very outermost edge. I always think, "I'm going to get a veggie burger this time," because I love veggie burgers, but then I always get the same local beef burger. How can I resist? They're so, so good. This is a place where people can and definitely do spend a lot of no-pressure time hanging out, talking, reflecting on the delicious food, whatever - it's a nice place to spend time with your friends. I think this must be an excellent destination for college students; if you're hungry, it probably seems like it's a little far of a walk from Smith campus, like many eateries on this end of town, but if I had Local Burger when I was a student, I would have gotten off of my lazy backside and hoofed it over here with great regularity. The only things I can say that are in any way *not* completely glowing are related to things I wish they had on the menu, all of which involve ice cream! We have a LOT of locally-made ice cream in the Valley, and when I think of diners and traditional burger/American fare, I think milkshakes, soda floats, and sundaes. Maybe if enough customers request access to local ice cream, it'll happen. Hint! There's free and strong wi-fi, which makes me wonder why in the world I don't see more laptops. I feel like this is an as-yet-undiscovered jewel that I hope continues to succeed. Every time I come in here, I feel great. The combination of delicious local (literally) food and supporting a thriving local economy makes a great backdrop for all of the wonderful times I've had here thus far. It's definitely my favorite restaurant on this site (where the crèperie, Fire Grill, and several other spots had been over the years), and I look forward to seeing it grow.

Everything is good, but the fries are hands down the best in Northampton (or perhaps the entire valley). Do yourself a favor and please get them. The small is more than enough to share. A BYOB beer from the liquor store across the street makes a very nice pairing.

I have lived in the area for a long long time. When Local burger first opened I thought this place looked terrible, but who am I to judge a book by its cover, so I went. I was right, it sucked. Every now and then I forget and the idea of "a quick burger" overwhelms me and I go. I am writing this as a reminder to myself that I hate it there and I hate everything they do. They are unbelievably slow, they are incredibly rude and the food sucks. It's a burger not rocket science, and they only give you two options, "pink or no pink." for one this sounds like they're talking about the human anatomy and two they can't even get that part right. I ordered it "pink" and it came back "brown" and 45 minutes late. I am declaring it now, that I will do everything in my power to make this place go out of business and send all the assholes who work there back to the gutter they crawled out of. If anyone ever catches me yearning for a quick meal slap me and send me to Burger King.

Now this is a tasty burger! Most of the ingredients here are sourced locally too. Onion rings are also very good. My only complaint is the wait time. We had a group of 5 place an order during the lunch hour and it took 20-30 minutes to get our food. For 5 burgers and a couple of sides I'd say that's pretty borderline. The place was busy but not as though it was overflowing with people. If they can improve the speed of service then this joint is easily 4 stars.

Local burger is awesome, but IMO not the best in the valley. Go here if you are down to BYOB and pay a lot for a hamburger.

Super tasty food--the fried pickles are the best things EVER, and the sweet potato fries are awesome, as is the maple mayo they come with (in fact, i always have them add maple mayo to whatever i order...it's just that good). As a vegetarian, the pickings are decent (there's a portobello burger, and you can swap in a house-made veggie burger (it has egg, so it is NOT vegan) for anything. When I was eating meat, the last thing I remember eating was the Juicy Lucy burger, and it was amazing (cheese explosion wrapped in a burger ? Enough said). If you are a strict vegetarian or you have a gluten intolerance, know that the grills and friers are definitely full of (traces of) meat or wheat. Because of this, I've walked away with a killer tummy ache after eating there more than a couple of times. (Un)fortunately, I can't keep away, and the food is usually worth the pain that sometimes follows. If you call in for take out, expect to wait at least 30 minutes for your food, no matter how busy.

Why do things taste better in NoHo? Seriously, this place is damn good. I got the grass fed Westhampton Burger (w/o ranch) and it was perfect this past weekend. Make sure you order "Grass fed" if you want the local taste-it is definitely worth the extra dollar as opposed to an angus burger. I also got a side of sweet potato fries which came with a really good maple mayo. Oh man, i'm getting hungry again thinking about this place. I may just drive from Boston right now...

Meaty, cheesy goodness. I had the Juicy Lucy "12oz Patty stuffed with American Cheese served molten hot" it was just bliss. You can't be aggressive with this beauty or you'll get burned. Just take it easy and go for the ride. I chose not to tarnish it with condiments BTW. My wife had a (local) grass-fed burger which she raved about. The fact they offer locally raised beef says volumes about their (smart) culinary approach. We tried the sweet potato fries, which I can recommend with no reservations. As is here, maple mayo is a frequent accompaniment in a number of restaurants. I've never understood why, I don't get it. Anyway, it was as good as I guess it's supposed to be. We were fortunate to get a table because shortly after we sat, the place was swamped. Good timing on our part. Just be prepared and perhaps try to get there before a traditional eating hour like Noon or 5pm. If the weather was nice I'd relish the idea of taking it to the streets. Northampton is nice like that. Note: don't read into my use of the word 'relish'. Never put relish on a burger. Never.

I hate to be a buzzkill but - I just don't get the hype. I was so excited to taste a burger from Local, & then when I took my first bite, I honestly couldn't figure out what was wrong. Had I put on too much mustard? Was I drowning out the flavor? Maybe I was coming down with a cold ... The thing is, the burgers are flavorless. (And my husband had one too & also couldn't taste it, so my taste buds were just fine.) Add to that the standard white hamburger buns & ... wow. Really disappointing. So sure, it's a good thing that the place is using quality beef - I'm all in favor of that - but unless this was a one-off fluke, they' really should figure out how to spice up their recipe. Especially now that Jake's on King Street is making excellent "local" burgers themselves.

Simple and solid menu, with plenty of options, as long as you want a burger. This place is about burgers and they're doing it right. The onion rings are great too.

so i drive by this place everytime i head out to northampton, so tonight my friends and I stopped in. We read here on yelp that the westhampton burger, which had bacon, ranch dressing, bbq sauce and cheese and the additional lettuce, tomato and onions. Burger came out fairly fast, it wasnt too busy when we went in. also got a vanilla milkshake, that was tasty. I really wanted to try the juicy lucy or the local burger, but for $10 i would rather spend on something else, i realize it's for te quality, but i'm a student and a $10 burger just usnt realistic to me. Im giving it a 3 because the tables were dirty and sticky. :/

Come back here every time I'm back in town. Captain Crunch Chicken tenders are delicious and their burgers and calamari fries are out of this world. Little bit of delay on getting the food, but that's because they are taking the time to make that good stuff.

Let me start off on a positive note in the spirit of the New Year: The singular good thing about my entire experience at this establishment is the beer-battered onion rings and the nice red-headed worker who was trying his best to help us out in what was an extremely undesirable experience. I should have known to leave the moment I witnessed 3 workers forcibly ushering out an autistic man and refusing to give him the $20 back that he spent, but I suppose I was too hungry at the time and my restaurant options were limited. The burger gave me indigestion for days, and the sweet potato fries (which were all we could get because they 'didn't have any regular fries today') were under cooked and tasted like cardboard. Now, getting down to it... I have never, in my entire life been treated like such crap as my friends and I were in this place. Not only did we have to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for 2 burgers and 3 orders of fries, but upon checking in to ask whether our order was up soon (1 hour in) they said 'this is not a fast food joint so don't come here if that's what you want.' This, however IS a fast food joint, and I don't think that even a regular restaurant would make a patron wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for a burger and fries. I asked for my money back at 1 hour and 15 minutes, at which time the man who worked there (who is lucky I had not at the time thought to get his name) refused saying 'no, I can't give you your money back', would not give me an explanation, and said that my order will be out soon. Miraculously my disgusting burger was ready immediately. However, my friends order was not out, so upon inquiring what is taking so long and asking why I was refused my money back, she was sworn at by 2 of the people behind the counter (I won't share the exact verbiage but the f- bomb was dropped several times.) And, to my favorite part, the person cutting the fries behind the counter thought it would be a lovely customer service gesture to throw a potato at her and yell even more slurs and swears at her as she was exiting the restaurant. I can definitively say that I would in no way, shape, or form recommend this restaurant to anybody unless they enjoy over- priced burgers that make them sick, undercooked fries, and being verbally abused and harassed. I already have my bank fighting the $10 over-priced charge for such a horrific experience. I should also mention this was on New Year's Eve and was our first experience in 2012. Happy New Year!

How much do I love local burger? Ohhh, let me count the ways. The burgers are absolutely divine. I'd recommend the westhampton. Their chicken tenders are also amazing because their battered in captain crunch. The staff is super friendly and helpful. This joint is open til 3am on the weekends, which is so smart. However, since it's by a lot of bars, it tends to get really crowded around 1, 2 am. Is worth the wait though!

Local Burger is family-owned, gets most of its produce and organic meat from local farms, and is very reasonably-priced: all good things. They also have several options for the non-meat eater who finds herself or himself in the company of carnivores. Portions for sides like fried pickles, overly-salted (if you ask me) sweet potato (which I hear are amazing) or regular potato fries, gigantic onion rings are HUGE, and cheap. Get a basket and share with friends. Unless you're 250lbs, drunk off your butt, and/or a wrestler and got something to prove. This is the true college kind of place to eat, which is awesome since it's in Noho, and stays open until 3:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. For my partner and I, searching for a nice spot to eat after PRIDE, it was just alright. We're not in college anymore (and couldn't eat like this on a regular basis like the college folk). ;) She had the turkey burger -- which was really decently seasoned, and tasty. It was also very flat. We saw the chef pounding something down with intense vigor, and, as it turns out, it was burgers. ;) I had the veggie burger, and, at the suggestion of the waitstaff, the yummy yogurt-dill-spicy sauce, which really made the veggieburger a kickass (flat) sandwich. The tomato and pickles on the sandwich were so fresh. My only complaint is that they serve Heinz ketchup, and everyone knows that Heinz is more rat (hair) than tomato, so I opted out of that, but other than that, it was a darned good sandwich, and one I'd recommend to vegetarians. They also have the sandwich sans yogurt for the vegan quadrant of the world. Awesome. We were able to find a seat pretty quickly, and really enjoyed our flat burgers and salty fries and onion rings. Other options look good, including the Captain Crunch chicken tenders which sound intriguing... The Upshot? It's trying to be fast good food, but it's not fast. This is a cute place with decent food, huge portions, reasonable prices, and really awesome farm-to-table values.

I downgraded my review from 4 to 3 stars. Local Burger was always very, very good, but was often very, very slow. This was simply because of how busy it always is, and their fresh-cooking of the burgers as they are ordered. Unfortunately, recently it has been even slower, and things haven't been quite right. The fries have been drastically undercooked or overcooked several times, and the burger buns came out cold. Not cool, not lukewarm, but flat out cold as if just out of the refrigerator. Will continue going and hoping that it gets back to 4 or 5 star quality.

I love Local Burger! This place is the Manny Pacquiao of burgers. Where else can you get local grass fed beef for 6.69? The burgers are grilled and full of flavor. They make their own delicious sweet patatoe fries, and a small is enough for two. The staff is always friendly too. And now for the cherry on top-they are BYOB.

Situated in a liberal town of 28,000, Local Burger is a family-owned burger joint/diner. It's a homely place to eat, and was definitely packed when I consumed lunch on a Saturday at 2pm. Exposed brick walls, checkered floor, and a menu on a chalkboard adds more charm to this small eatery, with about 12 tables consisting of 2 and 4 tops, and 7 seats at a counter facing the kitchen / checkstand. Here's the hook for me: burger patties are formed and weighed individually (6 oz). Wow! Never see that before from a QSR type restaurant. Fries are cooked in cholesterol free oil. You can order a burger with all the fixin's that you'd like, or one of their package selections. I tried the Local burger, which was apparently the only one that was a double, but I didn't know it at the time. Regular fries, and a cookie dough shake completed the order. Wait time was 15 mins, which I would have been more upset about if I didn't get a seat at the counter. When my food came, the burger was ridiculous. It was in 2 wrappers, and when I unwrapped it, 8 mushrooms fell out of it. Halfway through it, I had to turn it upside down because the bottom bun was getting soggy! Sorry to say, but this was my first time eating grass-fed organic local beef, and it didn't WOW me. All extras on the burger overpowered the meat, and suddenly it was taking a backseat in flavor. And I love the flavor of a good burger. Another reviewer determined the reason to be that the meat was too lean, and I'm inclined to agree. I get the health/hippie fad, but for me, the most memorable burgers were more flavorful and fatty. The fries were standard, edging towards limp and unimaginative. The shake was fantastic, but I learned a lesson: cookie dough doesn't travel through straws very well. Cost: $18 before tip for local burger, small fries, and shake. I may give it another try before I leave NoHo, but I'm going with a 3 for now.

Bad news.....brought my daughter to Local for a night out on the town. Ordered the "Juicy Lucy" which is Local's attempt at the classic Minneapolis diner stuffed burger concept. The cheese SHOULD have been in the middle..with each bite, you should taste AND see the cheese in the middle of burger...big miss. The server mentioned to take it slow, but after one small bite, the entire melted glop of cheese spewed out in the basket. I had to dip the burger into the fondue. We ordered the onion rings and fries...those came out before the burger and hot dog..ten plus minutes before, that is...... I ordered a raspberry shake... not worth the price. Service was as good as they could give, and will try another time before I throw in the towel.

This place is a lively burger joint where you order at a counter. You seat yourself. No waiter service. Their regular burger is black angus and cost $5.59. Grass fed burger is $6.59. They list their meat source, which is nice, so you know where the meat is coming from. They have a local source listed, hence the name of the business "Local". You can get a decent meal with fries and a drink for slightly over $10. You'll pay more for upping your meat quality of course. I opted to get the grass fed burger and everything about it was terrific. Both burger and french fries. I thought the burger was better than a Shake Shack burger of NYC fame. Plus, I was happy to get unlimited refills of Gold Peak unsweetened Iced tea. God I love that stuff. The only downside to this place is that it gets so gosh darn crowded it's difficult to find an open table. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I saw the kitchen crew unwrapping some type of prepackaged patties. I think it was the burger patties. That might explain why my burger didn't crumble apart like handmade burgers usually do. At first I was disappointed to see that, but considering the price of the burger, I'm OK with it. The price of the burgers would probably be more if the meat were hand ground and formed in-house. $6 for a good quality 6 oz burger is pretty fair, albeit they come from a prepackaged patty. By the way, if you think a good burger can't come from a prepackaged patty, try a Bubba Burger from your local supermarket's frozen foods aisle. They'll likely change your perception of prepackaged hamburger patties. Note: What's über cool about Main Street in Northampton is that there's no McDonalds or anything like that polluting the sidewalks. If there were, mom and pop burger places like this one would probably have a hard time surviving. So kudos to the Northampton town planning committee for making the downtown area a nice and desirable place to spend an afternoon. Most towns of this size lost their business focus when they allowed their businesses to move to the suburbs. Downtown Northampton is bustling with so many people it actually looks like a throwback to the 1950's when downtown centers were considered the life blood of many towns. Downtown storefront vacancy looks to be an incredible 0%.

I found a long, thin, light-colored hair COOKED INTO my veggie burger. Even if you're eating the best burger in the world, when you find a hair in it ... game over, its just gross! On a different trip, my dentist found a long hair in hers too, I thought it was funny and gross.

I got the southwest burger with the chipotle ketchup. The burger itself was pretty good, but everything else was bland. The chipotle ketchup tasted like salty ketchup nothing special. I also ordered a cake batter shake and it plain out sucked. It was like cupcake water. I waited 20 minutes for my burger and crappy fries. It took them 30 minutes to make a shake. Bottom line: I'm never going back here, it's way to expensive for low quality food.

Things get busy...I get that. But 23 minutes for a Burger and fries to go? ...and $9.50 ? I sat at the bar area and watched 1 of the 2 kitchen staff chop mushrooms at a pace of about 1 mushroom per 30-45 seconds. Food tastes OK...just OK. If you have tons of time and money, go for it. If you have ONLY an hour for lunch...I wouldn't risk it.

Yes, the grass-fed beef burger is somewhat smaller than I would find preferable. But I have never found the service at Local Burger less than exemplary, and this is really one of the best burger joints in the country. Even The New York Times saw fit to give it a positive review a few years ago. This is a place that cares about quality, and offers you options that reflect that. The chefs are from professional kitchens, and simply decided to move to a smaller city with a different pace. You can choose a burger made from Brimfield grass-fed beef, or one that's from a more traditional source, and either will taste wonderful. The sweet potato fries are outstanding, and the onion rings are excellent. If you happen to be in the Pioneer Valley, check out this place post-haste. It's a tremendous late-night option in particular.

We discovered Local Burger entirely by surprise while walking off our ice cream coma from Herrell's. The smell of charbroiled meat seemed the perfect antidote, and we stopped in to split a burger and fries. The angus (I think it was angus?) burger was excellent, very pink and juicy and fresh, enough so that the mister went back for seconds. The fries were burningly hot and perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside, creamy on the outside, and the sign said they were from Amherst, which is definitely living up to the name. The only drawback was that even though the windows were open, it was extremely stuffy and there were a number of flies buzzing around the little raised stage area at the front. Not necessarily Local Burger's fault, but it took away from the experience nonetheless.

Went to Local for a quick dinner tonight. Had to send my burger back to get cooked to well done as I asked when ordering, and it came back and it was still medium. Very frustrating, but the cashier was understanding and apologized. New words of wisdom for this place: Really really really specify how you want your burger cooked. I asked for a well done temp and it was very very pink inside. Fries were good tonight, not too salty and perfectly cooked.

The hamburger was ok, but, at almost $6, very expensive. The portobello burger, also almost $6, did not taste good; it was over-marinated, obliterating any mushroom taste. The French fries were, bar none, the worst I have ever had: totally soggy and greasy. No ambience. My first and last visit.

Fantastic. If you're in the area and haven't tried this place yet, you must. The burgers are great, the fries are good. I crave local burger. It has the best burgers around. It's BYOB, which makes it even better. It's a fun atmosphere to hang out with friends, eat burgers and drink beer. You'll see most people doing just that (always large groups of friends, meaning it can get kind of loud). The burgers either come as pink or no pink and the angus burger comes with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions. They also have a selection of other burgers. So good and pretty big. They also have good onion rings. You won't regret coming here if you're in the mood for a good burger.

YUM! I love this place. Open late, BYOB until midnight, 4 veggie burger options, and big baskets of french fries (enough to share with friends!). While there are traditional veggie burgers they also have a portobello burger which is quite good. I especially like their buffalo french fries with bleu cheese chunks. The milkshakes are alright, but a little spendy at $4 for a smallish cup and a little too thin. My boyfriend really loves the buffalo chicken tenders which are breaded in Captain Crunch. Try to get a seat near the huge window on a warm day. The people watching on Main Street is pretty entertaining.

4 of us went on a Wednesday night around 7:00p, the place was very busy. We ordered and the food came out one entree at a time. My daughter waited 15 minutes after our burgers arrived for her very disgusting Captain Crunch Chicken Fingers. When I asked about the delay, I was told the they were backed up with orders that needed frying..HELLO? don't they serve hand cut french fries. As I watched the other orders come out, there were many unhappy tables of hungry people. Their orders also came out in waves. The table behind us got half their order and then about 10 minutes later the rest of their order came out. I realize that this place is only a hamburger joint, but the lack of seating, high prices, and lousy service doesn't really do it for me. I wont be back and I wouldn't recommend

The burger and shake were good (not the best ever). You order either 'pink' or 'no pink' bewarned that pink is REALLY pink. Do not order the sweet potato fries. Really soggy and served with a weird sweet sauce. I tried my friends fries and they were much better.

Their beef is 100% grass fed and local and you can taste the difference! i eat at local burger once to twice a week and it is awesome, the northampton burger and the westhampton burger are awesome, the amherst is good too. They're chicken tenders are battered with captain crunch and even those are epic. their fries are always hot, never super greasy, and perfectly crispy. I've never had anything here that wasn't made as ordered or anything that wasn't delicious.

A friend told me it wasn't so great, but I insisted. I love burger, how could they get it wrong? Well they didn't get it wrong, but they didn't get them right either. They weren't juicy or flavorful or anything else, really. Just burgers. The captain crunch chicken tenders and raspberry rickey were fun add-ons though.

Good meat and veggies fine but the bread is no better than at the golden arches. It is limp and tasteless. It flattens down into a thin glommy layer. Well i found out you can ask for the bun toasted but still problem is the bread must come straight out of the fridge. Even if you ask for the bun toasted you can feel in your hand the outside of the bun is still cold. Very odd.

Realized that I gave a review for the Keene location but not Northampton. Local is one of the best places to eat in Northampton. It wins best burger every year for a reason. It can be busy and hectic in the restaurant at times but getting a burger and sweet potato fries during the summer with the windows open is one of my favorite food excursions in town. Also, they are open late night. What more can you ask for other than the pioneer valley's best burger at 3 AM after the bars close?... Nothing, thats what Go to local - and get the sweet potato fries with the maple mayo dip, they are F-ing awesome

Visited as a group of 2 mom's with 4 crank kids on the hottest day of the summer. I think the heat was making the staff a little cranky, too - but it could have been worse and it wasn't that bad. The burgers were tasty, juicy & love that they came from local meat. The hot dog was average. The Cap'n Crunch chicken tenders were delicious and moist. The chocolate milk shake was heaven on a hot day. And the fries - well, I'm pretty particular about fries and I'd order them again. Hand-cut, skin on, double fried - three absolute requirements of a decent fry IMO. We'll stop by here on our way through again for sure.

Amazing burgers! I have had burgers from a LOT of places here in the valley and these are one of, if not the, best burgers around. They are a little pricey but nothing crazy, especially for Northampton. The local, farm raised beef is amazing and if you have never had one, get one ASAP!

This place is terrific. If it were located in a big city I'd still go there. I always get the Westhampton Burger (pink). The burger has awesome flavor. The toppings and bun and very fresh. The bacon is thick (but not too thick), smoky and delicious. The french fries in peanut oil are great as is the fried pickles. The only down side is it's a little slow. That would never fly in a big city but it's fine for Northampton.

Local Burger has a lot going for it. In fact, it's hard not to give it five stars. I had an extremely tasty "Juicy Lucy" last night. The GF enjoyed a very very good veggie burger, and the Black and Blue Fries - hand cut fries coated in Buffalo sauce and sprinkled with chunks of bleu cheese - were decidedly delicious. Lip smackingly, finger lickingly great. A little expensive - $22 plus tip for a couple burgers and fries, no drinks - but it's downtown NOHO, the place has a rep, and the food is extremely good. So, what's the beef? Beef #1 - The so-called bun: My burger came out looking like it was wearing a yarmulke. An enriched flour, bought at Big Y, twelve for $1.09 with a silver coin, part of a slab of 6 that need to be separated, button of a bun. Not toasted. Albeit, the Juicy Lucy is an enormous burger - two patties welded together along their outside edges with American cheese sequestered inside during the grilling process - such a burger calls for a proper bun to accommodate it. Said proper bun should be toasted. Having consumed good burgers on great buns just up the road a bit, I know they can be had in these parts. And I know they can be toasted. After looking around the room, I can tell you that all the burgers would have benefited from a proper quality, nicely toasted bun. When I bit into the Juicy Lucy it was as good as I had imagined since first learning of such a beast while watching Man Against Food almost a year ago. Out spurted juice, out oozed thick American cheese, and... there was virtually no bun to catch any of the goodness as it rolled over my fingers and onto the paper lined basket. The GF loved the hand made veggie burger and enjoyed the addition of cheddar cheese, sauteed mushrooms and some tangy barbecue sauce. At one point she excitedly exclaimed "This is better than In-N-Out!" but I calmed her down and she limited her pronouncement to the fries. And, yes, I certainly agree; these hand cut steeped in sauce and covered with cheese fries beat the living daylights out of Animal style fires at INO. Fries aside and truth be told, she would have liked a whole wheat bun. She didn't say, but I'll bet she would have liked said bun toasted. They toast 'em at In-N-Out. Beef # 2 - The lettuce and tomato: It did not even come close to matching the burger in quality. Shredded iceberg? A pale pink poker chip of a tomato? When a slice of tomato looks this small and anemic on this pitsel of a bun... I think I needn't say more. The people behind the counter at Local are very friendly despite the apparently never ending crush of in store and call-in customers. So, don't get me wrong, I really, really like this place. But, for the money, and for their own integrity and self satisfaction, Local needs to step up on the bun and cold toppings. One last word: if you want a beer with your burger, bring it with you. As far as I see it, Local Burger is BYOBB. Bring your own bottle...and bun.

By far the best way to get a burger in the 5 college area. Show up, order, sit down, and wait to have one of the best burgers of your life, Its also BYOB, which is terrific. Service can be slow, and seats in demand, however its worth if for how cheap and delicious it is. Well worth a trip to noho

Love this place. The local ingredients are awesome and the atmosphere is just chill. Always order the sweet potato fries because the sauce that comes with is phenomenal. I love this burger joint and always want to go back when in town!

I cannot believe that I have not written a review for here yet! Well as previous reviewers have mentioned, it is good. Real good! I try not to go here two often but wait until I am craving a burger because it is even better that way. I tend to always grab the same thing because it is amazing! I get the grass fed burger with the onion rings. I mean seriously, it is one of the best meals ever. SO bad for you, but so good! I don't normally eat fast food but I will go out of my way to visit Local Burger and you should too :)

Pumpkin milkshake. Need I say more. Not only did I love the perfectly crispy vegitarian burger with all the fixins (I also added red peppers...yummo) with a large fry but I came back to pick up a pumpkin shake for the road. The french fries could have been a little less soggy. Overall, I loved the burger and the shake and the fact that everything is from local farmers...everything tasted so fresh!

What's happened to this place? I agree with the previous reviewer Brett. The last two times I've been here I've noticed that the burgers are just kind of boring. For a place that never really offered up much in atmosphere and service, the excellence of the food was really all Local Burger could brag about. From my recent experience, the place has slipped and offers just so-so food at full-service prices. And they make you wait around for it. Talk about resting on one's laurels. Local Burger, you guys need to step up and get back to where you were at the start. For lunch, I'll take Jake's much tastier burger instead.

My wife and I visited Northampton for the first time today and we went to Local Burger & Fries because we heard it is excellent...we heard correctly! I had the grass fed burger and the taste and quality of the meat were superb. It tasted like it was grilled to perfection! My wife had the Northampton Veggie Burger and added some roasted red peppers. The veggie burger was crispy, fresh, and delicious. The hand-cut fries (made from local potatoes) were perfect and not greasy at all! We even returned later in the day to purchase a pumpkin milkshake, which was AWESOME! Our only complaint is that it took a long time to get our food, and later, even our milkshake. On the positve side, the fact that the food takes a while shows that it is cooked to order (you can see into the kitchen), so we appreciate the freshness of the food. It was family weekend at Smith, so the place was packed, but maybe they could've had some extra help on to make things a little more organized and faster? One thing is apparent: These guys love what they do and they work hard, and they are very friendly. Aside from nearly eating my own hand out of hunger while waiting for my burger and fries, I do not have any real complaints. If we are ever back in Northampton, we will eat at Local Burger & Fries!

This place is not fair. They have amazing food and they KNOW it. Beyond that, they stay open till the wee hours of the morning, so there's no excuse NOT to go! They know I'm going to be ravenously hungry after leaving the bars... WHY DO THEY TAUNT ME SO?!?! Really hands down this place rocks socks though. The three times I've been, I've had three FANTASTIC burgers. Extra points for convenience and late hours. A few less points for not adding fries to the burgers by default. Overall damn solid and a great way to close out a night in NoHo.

Nice burgers... but the WAIT ???! Seriously ? I understand it's cooked to order, but 30 even 40 minutes for one patty? Also today, we've been trying to call them for 15 minutes. The one time they picked up, they dropped the speaker and I was left there waiting for 5 minutes. I gave up.

When your perfectly done turkey burger has both bacon and maple mayo. STAR. When your brothers' Westhampton (with an egg on top) is greeted at the table like a long-lost friend. STAR. When the owner steps out and starts joking with us, just to be nice. STAR. Using locally found ingredients, humanely raised, quality beef and turkey. STAR. When you leave this place feeling like you want to pivot around and run back in for more even though you are so full you could burst. STAR.

Came in from out of town & took a chance & walked in. Had the local burger, man this thing had everything but the kitchen sink. I was pleased to see see the bun had lots of sesame seeds, always a good sign that they are using fresh buns that haven't had a chance to flake off the seeds. The bun was so overloaded though that the bottom was not enough bread, had to use a knife & fork to eat. Vegetarian mother had the Amherst burger which she was quite happy with. The cashier, who was Jeff was funny, told me "you know that's just a giant mushroom?". I guess he picked up that I was a carnivore. The wife had the Juicy Lucy & boy was it juicy, delicious liquids just coming out the side. Unfortunately she had ordered it well-done, so it had to be sent back for additional treatment. Plus got both the regular fries & the sweet potato fries. I have to admit the regular fries were better, probably due to the cut, the sweet potato fries were uneven & sometimes bulky. Go with the regular fries & you won't go wrong, picture McDonald type fries but a little skinnier and with the skin still on. They might even cut them there. The tab ended up at $40 for 3 people. The service seemed OK in spite of the goof-up with the Juicy Lucy & most importantly Jeff had a good attitude and apologized twice about it. All in all, this would be a regular haunt if I lived in the area.

To be perfectly honest this is the best burger joint I have ever been to. To be honest again I haven't been to many, but I think they get a bad rep. If they were all like this I think they would be much more successful. I've only been two Local Burger two times thus far, but both times I was not disappointed. The food is good. The service is good. We were served with a smile and understanding that isn't found at other burger places (ie fast food.) It was a nice place to go and get my late night meal.

I don't even feel comfortable giving this establishment a single star since this was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I was in Amherst for a weekend trip and I was told by a friend that a new burger joint opened in Northampton. I figured I would check it out and I really wish I hadn't. For me I was thrilled that they had grass fed burgers on the menu so I ordered one. Not only did it take an hour for my burger to cook, it was literally the worst burger ever. I don't want to get into details, but it made me sick. Also the staff was incredibly rude. After an hour of waiting, I was sworn at by an employee. How dare I ask them where my food was! I have worked in food service before, both quick and slow so I understand being busy with multiple orders but their behavior was completely unacceptable. I can't believe how poorly managed this establishment is. I would never go back and I have also told all my friends who live in the area to avoid this place at all costs.

I love a gourmet burger, and was so disappointed with Local Burger. I ordered their grass-fed beef (they were out of the dry aged) cooked medium rare with cheddar, and found it to be dry and flavorless. The other two people I dined with felt the same way about their burgers, also grass-fed beef. We determined that the meat was just too lean to make a proper burger. The fries were okay; the coleslaw mediocre. Better off buying your own bison meat and grilling at home.

  • Nicholas W.

The burgers are OK but a bit overpriced along with the sides. I was hoping for better than shredded iceburg and an unripe tomato slice. My double grass fed with Cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and pickles totaled $10.99 before tax. I skipped on fries. The beef patties were a decent size, but weren't particularly flavorful.

It's good if you are in the mood for a place specializing in burgers and fries. My veggie burger was too charred and I didn't like it much for that reason.

A friend and I recently had lunch at Local Burger and we would definitely eat there again! The staff was friendly and the food was good. I had the Farmhouse Turkey Burger (cheddar, bacon and maple mayo) for $6.99 and my friend had the Westhampton Burger (bacon, cheddar BBQ sauce, and Ranch dressing), also $6.99. We shared a basket of Hand-cut Sweet Potato Fries- with maple mayo. My burger was perfect, as was my friend's. The sweet potato fries were good (the maple mayo? Even better.) The only downside to our meal was that I got a teeny-tiny cup for water. I have a bit of a pet-peeve about people trying to give you a miniature cup just because you've asked for tap water. My friend bought a milkshake (which he said was delicious) and it was in a nice, normal-size cup.

The food here isn't bad, but a few glitches during a recent visit prevent me from giving Local Burger & Fries a higher rating. This place is similar in concept to some better known chains like Five Guys and Smashburger; i.e., a more trendy, socially conscious version of McDonalds or Burger King. The gimmick here is that the food is locally sourced (as the name implies). The menu is limited -- not much more than burgers of assorted varieties with cutesy names (e.g., Juicy Lucy), fried potatoes (regular or sweet), and milkshakes, with a few other odds and ends like chicken wings. Now, I don't know whether this was an aberation or routine, but my order was served in two courses -- I got my fries and shake first, followed by my burger about 10 minutes later. I guess the guy who fries the fries and the guy who grills the burgers aren't entirely in sync. I would have preferred to have gotten at least the burger and fries at the same time. As for how everything tasted, well, the shake was very good -- not too thick and not too thin -- but it was rather small and expensive ($4.75). The six-ounce burger, which can be ordered "pink" or "no pink," tasted predominantly of the char grill. I topped it with cheese and sauteed onions, but I couldn't taste either condiment. It could've used more salt too. The fries were okay -- a bit greasy and also underseasoned. But they were piping hot and generously portioned. Oddly, they consisted mostly of crispy little bits and pieces of potato rather than the more conventional long batons. This simple meal didn't come cheap -- over 14 bucks not including the tip. All in all not a particularly good value in my opinion, but I guess you gotta pay for "local."

get the grass-fed burgers!! they are amazing and taste so fresh. i loved my burger with cheddar and bbq, it was awesome. also a huge fan of the sweet potato fries and chipotle ketchup. everything is delicious and fresh here, and you can opt to get a bunch of things organic or local.

  • José T.

This place gave me one of the best burgers I've ever had. A selection of several different local organic beefs to choose from, cooked to juicy perfection, delicious toppings. The freshly cut, double-fried french fries with skin were also incredible, and I'm normally not a big fan of fries. I was thrilled to find that this is not fast food strictly speaking. I prefer to wait a few minutes (my burger took under 5 minutes) for a freshly prepared, made-to-order experience. And I don't mind paying a couple more dollars for high-quality ingredients. The meal was still an inexpensive option overall (under $10). The BYOB policy also makes it fun and affordable. Highly recommended!

Yumm... the burgers are great, but skip the sweet potato fries. I'm a huge fan in general, but theirs are soggy and gross. I love being able to get a burger from local farms. You order at a counter and sit, but it's nice and clean. Good place to stop in with a friend, but don't take a date there unless it's for a quick late night bite or something.

The anti-McDonald's for sure. The beef is delicious, and local, while the service is friendly, accurate and slow. And the cheese tastes like cheese. Remarkable! In this day and age! Still, it is super-casual and easy and you pay first and then sit. We got the sweet potato fries, which tasted like sweet potatoes (again! remarkable!) but were rather soggy. The onion rings are more of an onion doughnut - use your imagination. The regular fries are my favorite kind: thin, dark, skins-on (like at Barney's). We spent $20 and it's BYOB. Much cheaper and delicious-er than our neighborhood burger option.

  • Kristin C.

This place is awesome! The beef burgers are fresh and delicious. The veggies burgers, also delicious, are made in-house and the fries are out of this world! Go! You will not be disappointed.

    (5)
  • Moe D.

The burgers are just OK in my opinion, and a bit over-priced. Much better for in house than take out, where you could lube a car with the left-over grease from the bag your onion rings come in. Where this place really shines (and deserving of 4-stars) is their Captain Crunch crusted chicken tenders. Tender, juicy, delicious, and they have one of the best teriyaki sauces Ive ever tasted. Are they really coated in Captain Crunch crumbs? I dunno, but they are so good it doesnt really matter.

I came here for lunch in the afternoon. The place wasn't too busy and the cashier was pretty friendly. I had the grass-fed burger, cooked medium with fries. It came out in under 10 minutes. Very delicious burger, flavorful & cooked properly. The bun is a standard burger bun, nothing great there but the star is the meat and it shines through as well as it should. The french fries were pretty good - some crunchy, some soggy - though slightly over-salted.

  • Dave H.

The good news is that the burgers are pretty good - the bad news is that the rest of the experience isn't up to par. How you order isn't 100% clear when you first walk in, and there was a pretty substantial line just to order. Then you have to wait at least 10-15 minutes to get the food - our group had a couple different type of burgers, and we also shared a large order of sweet potato fries. The fries weren't very crisp and the maple mayo was too sweet. Good to try if you're going at an off time or if you just want a change of pace from a fast food burger.

I wish you could smell and taste this review. I stopped by today because I was in the area and had my camera. I've already done a review, all I wanted to do was add some pictures but to tell you the truth, I have to write more! Why? Because lunch today was soooo good. I sat at the sidebar and ordered a Juicy Lucy, small fry, and (you're gonna love this) a diet coke! The place was packed! These burgers come out a lot slower than drive-up joints but who cares?! These are worth the short wait! Juicy, hot, fresh, tasty, charcoal...yummaaalishish! Service is great, the place is very clean and these folks are very friendly. I don't get to NoHo very much, but if it's during lunch, I'll be coming back!

I have been to Local Burger many times and always leave satisfied. Staff is always friendly. Burgers are fresh, huge, and to die for. The french fries are made with local potatoes and are delicious. Try the grass fed burger. The place does get packed at times so there may be a wait depending on when you visit, but well worth it, IMO. They also allow BYOB and there is a package store across the street. Can't beat that.

Local Burger is one of the few restaurants that has never let my wife and I down. We've eaten there at least 12 times in the last six months. The very act of walking in makes us happy. The Westhampton Burger is by far the best burger I've ever eaten an we love the fried pickles. There are a few things I wish were different though. First, I wish they would add chicken tenders to the kids menu. It's a kids menu staple that is noticeably absent. Second, seating can be difficult when it is busy as there are few tables and it's first come first serve, whether you've placed your order or not.

Amazing burgers - the best I've had in a long while. Fries were a bit too salty, but still pretty good. Besides, fries hardly matter when the burgers are so good.

Dank burgers. The option for local beef is great, they are particularly delicious. Also, the fried chicken mixed with cornflake batter is shockingly delicious. Their fries are rather lackluster, and extremely inconsistent. Not as crispy as they should be, usually too salty, and often too oily. I always pass on getting fries here for this reason. The burger alone with all the fixings is really all you need son. Can get pretty busy on weekends. Awesome place because its BYOB and open pretty late. Do yourself a favor, head over to Pop's, get some dranks, get the window seat and that fresh open air, and eat enough to stay there for a while. Maybe a burger, some fried chicken, followed by another burger; mix it up with all the dranks. That is the makings of a great night right there, my friends.

Local Burger was one of the first restaurants I ate at when I came to Northampton from Seattle, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the Westhampton burger with bacon, cheddar, BBQ sauce, ranch, and I opted to add the lettuce, tomato, and onion. The burger was cooked nicely, with a little pink in the middle, just as I had asked, bacon was crisp, just the right amount of sauce. M had the Local, which he didn't realize comes with 2 patties, and didn't finish it, which is rare. We split an order of sweet potato fries with maple mayo. The fries were delicious, but with the mayo, which was flavorful on its own, the combination was too sweet for my taste. I stuck to eating the fries plain, and was perfectly happy to do so, as they are crunchy on the outside, smooth on the inside, and nicely seasoned. The raspberry milkshake was refreshing, tasted like fresh raspberries, not food-colored overly sweet raspberry syrup in milkshake mix. (Note that I'm not sure whether the shake had fresh raspberries in it, but it certainly tasted like it did.) The restaurant was busy, as it was typical lunch time on a lovely summer day, but we had no trouble finding a table, and I was impressed that every empty table was clean. The service was a bit of a mixed bag. The young woman that took our order could have been a bit more helpful instead of getting frustrated that we didn't know exactly what we wanted the moment we walked up to the counter, but honestly she acted exactly like a teenage girl stuck inside working on a sunny day. However, the server who brought out our food was delightful. Even though it was busy, she stopped to chat for a minute when she delivered our burgers. I would love to visit Local again before I fly back to Seattle, maybe give the Juicy Lucy a try.

If you're in Northampton and want an amazing burger the only place to go is Local Burger. Everything is amazing, from the sweet potato fries, to the fried pickles, and their specialty burgers. They also have an amazing homemade veggie burger, and the Juicy Lucy is crazy good! One of the best things is that they're open late on weekends, after the bars close!

Great burgers, I just wish I could order rare or medium rare instead of "pink or no pink". I usually order the "local" or the "juicy lucy" and both are excellent. Their hand cut fries are great but I don't care for the onion rings; they're pretty much all batter with a small ring of onion in the middle. Also didn't care for the fried pickles as they use chips instead of spears.

We were looking for something quick & easy for dinner since my daughter had to meet her friends in about an hour, so she suggested we go to Local Burger which she liked the first time she went with a friend. So off we went & when we got there, the place was packed. You go to the counter & place your order by choosing off at the menu written on a blackboard before you. I ordered the "Local Burger" (well-done please!) and small fries to share with my husband while my daughters got a hotdog with chili and hotdog with sauerkraut. By the time we finished placing our orders, tables opened up for us so we decided to just eat in. We waited maybe about 10 mins or so & our food was brought over to where we were sitting. The burger that I ordered at first glance seemed stacked up high. Upon closer inspection, it was indeed high since it had 2 burger patties, with sliced tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, peppers & bacon (several of them) on buns so full with sesame seeds. My husband & I shared this and both loved it. The burger was cooked just to my liking. The fries was also great especially the flavor. Even though I ordered just small the basket of fries was enough to feed the four of us. I didn't try the dogs even when my daughters asks me to but they also agreed that they were good. Counter guy taking orders was friendly and patient. Service is fast & efficient and I assume that on busy times, service can take some time. All in all, Local Burger is a no frills burger joint but makes up for it in great food. I know some yelpers didn't like it that it is a bit pricey but for me, price is a small thing to pay for great food. I'd rather pay for expensive food that is truly great rather than one that tastes so ordinary. It is worth it. I look forward to going back there and try their other offerings.

Stopped in here the other day for lunch on a visit to Northampton. The burger (I ordered the Westhampton) was very good, not amazing. But the fries, oh my. The fries were amazing. Fresh cut and the potatoes were from a farm in New Hampshire. Soft but crispy with the perfect amount of salt. Usually when I get a burger and fries I eat the burger first and then finish up with the fries until I'm full. Not here, these fries make you want to finish up with the burger! If I returned I'd probably bring my own beer as other reviewers have mentioned!

Went here with my girlfriend while visiting her at umass during the winter. It's a kind of cool little place. If it was a person it wouldn't know if it was a hipster or a hippie essentially, so neither of those aspects become too apparent. The food is really good, and i'm a total sucker for the local/grass fed/organic thing, a sucker like a fox. I had the westhampton burger with fries, could not have been more happy. I wish i knew it was BYOB when i went, that would have ruled. Only reason northampton as a whole should exist, because i'm really not a fan of the area, so the fact i'd give it 4 stars says a lot.

Not to many Burger Joints deserve a five star rating. However, the size of the burger was perfect, the quality of the meat was perfect, the quality of the vegetables on the burger was perfect, and the fries were great... this would usually be a four star rating... Now add in the fact that was able to pick a burgermade from Grass Fed Beef and that adds the 5th star!!!

Fantastic burgers cooked great but @ $4.75 for a tiny milkshake that is just OK in flavor I would not be ordering that again. If I was them I would consider rethinking the flavor, size and price of the milkshake.

High quality, locally sourced products (hence the name). Fries are really similar to Island's (burger chain out west). Crispy, tasty, salty, delicious. They also have sweet potato fries which are a good rendition if you like that sort of thing. The Juicy Lucy with bacon might be my favorite burger of all time. 12oz, actually stuffed with cheese. Yum. Can be a bit pricey, but well worth it. Great staff.

This is a truly wonderful place. The owners are as nice as their customer friendly staff, and the food is local, creative and delicious. The Northampton Veggie is a favorite, but cannot top the grass fed "local burger" I had yesterday. Two grass fed beef patties with bacon cheese red peppers, mushrooms and onions. So much deliciousness I almost didn't have space for my daily GoBerry...almost. They are open late which is wonderfully dangerous after a couple of beers. Their fries are pretty darn good, too. The only problem is that after writing this review I am going to have to go there for lunch.

Cheap, tasty food with integrity. My burger was one of the better $7 burgers that I've had--which is to say that it's not ranking up there as the Best Burger Ever, but it's still totally worth it. I enjoyed picking which farm the cow came from as well--it helped reconnect the food to the land even more. The counterperson was friendly and efficient and we got our food relatively quickly given how busy the place was. The physical space is nothing special, but it doesn't need to be. The fried pickles were sadly disappointing, but I guess you can't win 'em all.

My love for this place has only grown over time, but so have my standards. While I'm keeping my rating at four stars, I'm happy to point out that they've ironed out the kinks I mentioned in my review of a few years ago. The food is still just as good -- definitely the best burgers in the PV. They're not messing with success.

A burger and fries and a shake: the quintessential American meal, and one that I've had a love-hate relationship with for some time. Why? Because so many places do a mediocre job of it, and still get inflated reviews from a public with indifferent tastebuds. "Best burgers in town!!!!11!!!", bah. Drunk people should not be allowed to review restaurants. But I still yearned for my lost dream meal, a modest burger and fries and shake -- not haute cuisine, not some pretentious "Cordon Bleu goes to White Castle and is inspired to serve you Kobe beef sliders for $49.95" ripoff, just a good basic burger...and fries...and a shake. And voila, here it is at Local Burger, and it could not be better. The food is, of course, the main attraction, and it's all good. Burgers, fries and shakes are all excellent examples of their type. But there's a lot more to like about this place, not least that they are able to pull off the "local food" theme without being precious or affected about it. This is probably due to the owners' down-to-earth attitude combined with the fact that Northampton and the surrounding area have been doing the local food thing for so long that it's really not a fad any more, if it ever was. While Local Burger stands out among restaurants for basing its entire menu on local products, locally produced meat isn't exotic or hard to find in the area. Whatever the reason, I appreciate a restaurant that serves local burgers but is matter-of-fact about it. Just like a wide receiver who makes a spectacular catch in the end zone and then simply tosses the ball to the ref, Local Burger does an exceptional job and skips the self-congratulation. If only there were more like it. The only downside of Local Burger is its popularity. This place gets the lunch crowd, the dinner crowd, the families-eating-out crowd, the pre-theater crowd, the pre-club crowd, the after-theater crowd, the after-club crowd...you name it. It can get very busy in here. If you're alone, a counter seat is probably your best option. Seats and tables do turn over frequently, so don't worry -- when your burger comes, you will have a place to eat it.

My girlfriend & I stopped in Northapton while on a road trip. While wandering we found this great gem! I had the 'Farmhouse Turkey', turkey burger with crumbled sharp cheddar, bacon, & maple mayo. Huge, delicious, & juicy! My girlfriend had the 'Amherst' which is a grilled portabello, roasted red pepper, & crumbled blue cheese. Delicious but very messy. The hand cut fries were also great & we even got a few sweet potato fries sprinkled in the mix. The burgers were a little pricey as we left paying $20 between the two of us but totally worth it!

I must say they make some of the best burgers in town. The prices are a little high, but, thats not uncommon. The dry aged is worth the extra money. They also do a decent version of Capt. Crunch battered chicken tenders. Would be 5 stars if it weren't for the price.

I have came here a bunch of times and they never fail to impress me with their burgers. The local burger as a classic to their menu is always made the way I want it. The beef is so tender that the whole burger just melts in your mouth regardless of how big it is. By far this is the best place to go to for burgers in western mass.

This is a tasty burger. A funky-vibed place with yummy burgers is what Local is. You get your choice of premium beefs, delicious toppings, and tasty sides and you go with it. The place is BYOB, which is cool, and the service was very fast on a Saturday night. They were out of dry-aged beef when I went, which is sad, so I'm definitely gonna go back to try that taste sensation.

One of the best burgers ever! Buffalo blue fries rock! And it's BYOB to boot.

To have a better burger than their grass fed beef burger, I have to make it myself!! The bun with sesame seed is good, the burger divine, the many topping combos sure to have something you love to make your own kind of perfect burger. The veggie burger is hand made, really outstanding, even non-vegetarian friends will order it and consider it a treat. The hand cut fries are excellent, same with the sweet potato fries and their dip sauce, yum! I go at off hours, because there is a line most nights after the bars close. Local Burger is my favorite quick and relatively cheap burger place in this area, for sure!

BEST burger place in the area. :) Delicious burgers (simple menu but at the same time good variety), awesome sweet potato fries!, chill decor/ambiance, love the BYOB policy. Just all around great. I LOVE coming here with my friends.

Local Burger's burgers are so... amazingly good. And massive. As juicy as all hell. Plus, major props for everything being, well, local. Mmmm. Maybe the best burgers in the Valley. (Although, my heart still kind of belongs to the Brewery; I love you, Northampton Brewery!) This place is *so* much better than the short-lived, never-open pizza place that was there before it. A little expensive; $9 burgers, which are great and gigantic, but honestly... it's almost too much. I love, love food, but Jesus, I can't eat 12 oz. of cow flesh, PLUS bacon, PLUS a bun, PLUS, lettuce, cheese, and tomato. 12 oz. My heart almost hurts afterwards.

Tied with Karma for my favorite restaurant. While Karma tastes good and is super healthy, Local burger tastes SO DARN GOOD I eat too much. I simply can't eat there more than once a week because I eat so much that I'm fun for 3 days afterwards!

Local Burger Rocks! The veggie burgers are nothing short of Amazing. Their fries are seasoned with salt and pepper. It's open late, but the one setback is that it's very expensive for a place that serves burgers and fries. The staff are really friendly and clever. I believe a few of the cooks come from Brooklyn, which can explain their mad culinary skillz!

  • R B.

Local burger has, by far, the best burgers not just in town, but in all of western mass. It doesn't advertise as a "fast-food" restaurant, so people who come in with that misconception are easily frustrated as each burger is cooked to order. The food is fresh, the meats, vegetables, and side sauces are high quality, and the experience is one of a kind. Some favorites? Definitely the fried pickles in cornmeal, not batter! The veggie burger is also phenomenal (and this coming from a bonefied beef eater). all the veggies in it (I think they told me there's 12 or 14 different veggies but I can't remember them all) are prepared fresh at the restaurant and hand mixed into something phenomenal. Also, the captain crunch chicken fingers are not to be missed for chicken finger fans. I prefer going during the slightly 'off' times if I don't feel like waiting, but if its going out for a meal I'm willing to wait as long as I would at any sit-down place. The kicker? It's BYOB (literally just beer). What else can you ask for?

As resident carnivore in my group of friends, most are surprised to hear that the only thing I've ever had there is the (completely vegetarian) Northampton Burger. It's absolutely delicious... I've heard it's even better with bacon. I chose not to tamper with perfection. It's a little pricy, as others have said, but if you're hungry at 2:45 am on a Friday night, this is the place to be.

Delicious!!! Found it by walking past three years ago, this past year we went out of our way to extend a trip so that we could stop here for lunch. Burgers are amazing, fries are great and the onion rings are insanely good!! and ingredients are locally sourced :)

Off the hook burgers and onion rings. My business gets take out from here often and even if you don't get them hot they are awesome. I am normally a beef gal but their turkey burger is the best I have ever had!

My Northampton nostalgia continues... I thought of this place as I was thinking about where I should go for lunch today. Unfortunately I'm 600 miles away now, but I would go here in a heartbeat if if were an option! I really like the atmosphere, and the owners/staff are super nice. The fried pickles were amazing, and the onion rings were the best I've ever had, seriously! Even my mom, the pickiest person on the face of this planet, raved about them. Looooooove this place. I have a list of places to visit when I'm back in the area, and this is near the top!

This place rocks. I don't know more that I can say. I wish all the fast food places in Amherst, Hadley, Northampton and Easthampton would just blow up so people would go here more. After eating here. All other burger places in the area are dead to me.

I had my first meal here a couple of months ago and I was completely impressed. Very casual atmosphere--order your food and take a seat. The menu has a lot of great options, including grass-fed beef and amazing sweet potato fries. I probably would have given it five stars, but every time I go they seem to be out of ice in the drink machine! If I have ice available next time I go in I'll definitely update my review to five stars.

I did a little research before heading to Northampton last weekend and decided I needed to try Local Burger. It was a great choice. I had the Westhampton burger with fries. The burger was cooked perfectly. The toppings were fresh and tasty. The fries... mmmmm the fries. So good!! I'll be back when I am in the area again.

  • JIm B.

Local Burgers downfall is lack of constancy. The burgers they serve up are very tasty and I have enjoyed ever one I have had. The fried pickles are a real treat and a must try. The fries are never constant (especially the sweet potato fries). Sometimes burnt, sometimes soggy, sometime cut like steak fries, sometimes small and crispy like they should be. When they get busy service suffers, expect to spend 20-30 for two. I feel this is a bit pricey for counter service. Do I like local burger? Yes. Will I keep eating there? Yes. Should you eat there? Definitely.

Local Burgers can be scrumptious. Grass fed beef and really great turkey burgers with fresh toppings. Service can be a little slow at times, seems to only one guy running the front end. Only other downside is that the meals come out separately from the rest of your group. There was a 10+ minute gap between my meal and my fiance's meal. Late night is great and you can even BYOB which is a major plus.

Incredibly fresh. Just like your dad used to make on the grill, THICK juicy hamburgers. I had a Westhampton burger, minus the bacon. It was nicely loaded with cheddar, BBQ and ranch sauce. You can also get a less-adorned burger, and I may do that next time. Love that they also have free wifi. It's not super-cheap, but it's only a couple bucks more than average, and the local, freshness of the burgers and buns is well worth it. Service was quick. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes.

First, it's nice to have a late night place in Northampton, and their portobello burger is good. However, I have some complaints. One, the staff, on our visit, was nice, but the service was terrible. Received burgers before the fries, which naturally should be eaten together. The fries never came, and the staff didn't seem to care. The place wasn't that packed, but other people were complaining as well. And since the menu is so small, there really should be no room for confusion. Two, their veggie burger isn't vegan, so there really is only one burger that a vegan can get.

They're back! My husband and I fell in love with Local's juicy, great-tasting burgers and big, crispy onion rings soon after they opened, but multiple bad experiences with surly servers, unapologetic owners, and kitchen mix-ups made us take a break. Tonight we went back for the first time in about six months--happy to report that the burgers are still as unbelievably tasty as ever, but the service problems appear to have been SOLVED. The restaurant was busy, but our table was cleaned promptly and our order arrived in a reasonable amount of time...just as we'd ordered it. Local, we missed you, but we're glad to be back!

Smaller selection of items. Truely a burger and fries spot. Very long wait at lunch time. Diggin' free fountain soda refills. Found a hair in my veggie burger....but they apologized 10 times, gave me my money back, and a gift cert to come back. I did have/finish my basket of sweet potato fries, the only saving grace.

damn, people love local burger. their food is good but i have waited way over 20 minutes for my food multiple times, not cool. their fried pickles are to die for and when i stumble in there at 2:00 when the bars out and they tell me they dont have any, which happens a lot, i get pissed. they also take forever to just get fries out which i dont understand - they should just have a whole bunch ready - obvi all whole bunch of people are gonna order them at 2 when the bars let out. the veggie burger is fine but morning star makes when that id give the same rating. the reason i would go here the most is to just see people after the bar. one star is just for the fact that its byob. anyway the fried pickles are to die for and the sweet potato fries with maple dipping sauce is also fantastic. one more thing - i have been there twice and saw fights. once i saw some guy get his face punched in. think it had something to do with a burger. just sayingg...

  • Cecelia B.

  • Nancy S.

Service has been slow and forgetful recently...waited an hour because the food sat as a pick up...? The special burger of the day was excellent with a giant onion ring, cole slaw and pulled pork on a burger!

The Westhampton burger was great, small fry is enough for two. Definoitely not an everyday place if your watching what you eat, but a great spot to splurge once in a while. Fries were amazing also.

Loved this burger joint on our way home from Vermont to New York. Filled with locals enjoying great local fare. The sweet potato fries were awesome, as was the local burger and veggie burger.

Good, messy burgers! Not a huge fan of the fries or the long wait, though, but overall a great burger joint.

Local Is my favorite burger place. I like to get the grass fed beef which taste so much better. I also enjoy the sweet potato fries with the maple mayo and the onion rings are awesome!

Especially now that Jake's on King Street is making excellent "local" burgers themselves.

so i drive by this place everytime i head out to northampton, so tonight my friends and I stopped in.

I'm a smaller girl and I DEVOURED my burger and those yummy sweet potato fries!! ::drool:: This place is a MUST.

Our friend, Ebru, turned us on to this place. We had a couple of burgers, some well-seasoned fried, and amazing onion rings! The burgers were pretty good, but the onion rings warrant the fourth star. Well done, Local!

  • Rob F.

STAR.

get the grass-fed burgers!! they are amazing and taste so fresh. i loved my burger with cheddar and bbq, it was awesome. also a huge fan of the sweet potato fries and chipotle ketchup. everything is delicious and fresh here, and you can opt to get a bunch of things organic or local.

  • Andrew J.

We went the other day and the service was dreadful. Took forever to get our food and by the time I got mine it was completely cold. It's weird that they have you tip before you get your food. We will not be returning.

Eaten here several times. Food is usually excellent except when they get busy. Then, service quality and consistency go downhill. GREAT burgers and very good onion rings, but pricey though.

  • Tony L.

I have came here a bunch of times and they never fail to impress me with their burgers. The local burger as a classic to their menu is always made the way I want it. The beef is so tender that the whole burger just melts in your mouth regardless of how big it is. By far this is the best place to go to for burgers in western mass.

  • Derek W.

  • Eileen C.

  • Hazie W.

BEST burger place in the area. :) Delicious burgers (simple menu but at the same time good variety), awesome sweet potato fries!, chill decor/ambiance, love the BYOB policy. Just all around great. I LOVE coming here with my friends.

  • Cait G.

  • Matthew Z.

  • Morriss P.

  • Bird B.

  • Michael Y.

  • Jay M.

Serious. Very rich. Local gem.

  • Jamie B.

I find myself dreaming about the Westhampton burger, and then I wake up and am sad I'm no longer in the valley. Takes a while to order, and get your food (this is NOT fast food), but the staff is very friendly, one of the owners/brothers/father is usually floating around, and the food is worth it.

  • Laura W.

Onion rings are grease-tastic and super delicious in a "terrible for you" sort of way...burgers are good quality. Plenty of interesting combinations! They have a creative array of milkshakes and sodas (lime rickey!) as well!

Dang!!! Nice to see places popping up here do so well. I got the Westhampton burger. Delicious fries. Would go back.

The place definitely has a college-town vibe, with a no-frills interior that's been worn a little thin by co-eds over the years. It's not a first date place for sure, unless that's how you roll. But my burger was good, really good, and I took it as a good sign that it actually took several minutes to make it. Would def go back.

You betcha!

This place has the best burgers I've ever had. They offer local grass fed beef, which tastes absolutely fantastic. It has a cool blend of 50's style and modern art.

Happened to be visiting Northampton and needed some lunch. Seemed to have good reviews, so we stopped in. Loved the sweet potato fries, and the captain crunch chicken tenders were amazing. Burger was pretty good too.
