Moderately cheaper than a Chipotle, for example, but not very good. Wouldn't bother going back, despite the convenience.

For service I would say 0 stars... The "lady" (owner) is beyond rude... Every time I go there I get charged a completely different price for the same meal... The food is bland as well, just go to Anna's in Brookline or Cambridge..

Very poor service, manager appears to have very limited social communication skills as other have alluded too. They up charge a dollar for a slap of flavorless guacamole and also extra for cheese. The burritos themselves fall below Anna's which I view as being average compared to other places. No point in going here as price point also out of synch - simply put, in this city unsure why they are still in business.

Bright, airy burrito joint near Newton center. I had a veggie burrito with black beans and it was... a veggie burrito with black beans. A great place if you are looking for an analog to Anna's while you're in the area, but nothing for which to go out of your way.

Food was ok. I paid extra for guacamole and only got a "taste". The woman at the counter (in her late 50's/early 60's) was preoccupied with text messaging on her slide screen smartphone (huge turnoff for me). Overpriced and undeserved is not the way to go. If you want a great meal, head over to Sol Azteca across the street.

Super ordinary. I got a burrito and it wasn't anything to write home about. Not better than Boca, not better than Anna's and not better than Chipotle. My wife got the portobello quesadilla. She wasn't too much of a fan either. Place was pretty busy, if it's probably cause there isn't much competition, I think if a Boloco, Anna's, Boca Grande or Chipotle opened down the street they'd probably flop. Give me a diffrent product please!

Overpriced mediocre food, service that is brusque and apathetic. We have also had several incidents here that make me question the honesty of the people who run this place, for example, being charged for items we did not get or being charged prices that don't match what is listed on the menu.

This place is a slightly above average burrito joint. They make quick burritos that taste good but are nothing special. If you have the chance, make the five minute drive to the BC campus where you will find El Pelón, a taqueria that kicks Tango Mango's ass and throws it into the Rio Grande.

I would give this place zero stars. Tonight's hair-raising experience included a man coming in before me complaining that his twelve year old bit into a huge piece of "valve". The owner simply handed him a $10 bill, barked back that shes been there 8 years and never had a complaint, and to tell his kid to get over it, that "meat is meat". I thought maybe he was being dramatic, but my own steak burrito was loaded with inedible chunks of anything BUT steak. Whatever that meat was, it was gamey and chewy. My wife's burrito included a nasty surprise halfway down: a large section of tripe. That one went straight to the trash. This place needs to be inspected/ shut down ASAP. If anyone knows whom to call, please let me know. I've never been one to post negative reviews, but this is a matter of public health.

One big plus that Anna's doesn't have, plantains! That is the big winner for Tango Mango. This place is good, the burrito isn't as good as Anna's but they have some good fillings. They do have great guac. One bad thing, you can smell subway as it is right next door.

  • Phoebe P.

Not good. Got would-be baja tacos & plantains, and left very unsatisfied. The tacos were sad and uninspired, with what tasted like a drizzle of russian dressing from a bottle on top. And the plantains were mediocre. Good points: service was nice, and corn tortillas were fresh and soft.

One problem w/ this place is the name. Is it me or does "Mango Tango" just sound better than "Tango Mango"? I think it has to do with the fact that some middle aged Newton-ites thought it would be a good idea to convert their house help into food preparers at their taqueria venture. Ok, onto the food. I used to enjoy the burritos here when I happened to be in the neighborhood. The last couple times I've been there no matter what I've gotten (steak, carnitas, chicken burritos) has been oddly reminiscent of stale cardboard. WTF?

Top notch burritos. as good as Anna's Tacoria. All fresh ingredients. many choices and all made to order. great for a quick bite or on the run. Wish they would extend there menu.

Got the mexican bowl with spicy pork. The pork was dry without much flavor except for the hot sauce that they poured on the last second. The rice and beans were also very bland... and the beans werent "mashed". The portion was small enough to feed only a kid... thus explains the relatively low price. The guy working behind the counter didnt seem to speak fluent english... and was pretty impatient with the customers. While I was there the owner got into a heated argument with this other guy about parking spaces at the back or something... I seriously thought there was gonna be bloodshed in the normally-quiet newton centre.

This is a good Mexican place in Newton Center. They don't serve the nitty-gritty Mexican fare, but for what it is, it's tasty and quick. A good place for fast food Mexican, if you know what I mean. We always order the same things - the Mexican Plate Supreme with steak and black beans. It comes with rice, tortillas and salad and includes sour cream and guacamole. Always get the green hot sauce. For the kids, I get a few of their sides in separate containers - rice, black beans, and the grilled chicken. We've tried the nachos, which were no-frills and decent. We're not burrito or wrap people, so the plate option is great for us!

I chose this place as my first cheap lunch place to try in Newton. I went with two friends and while they ordered burritos, I chose to have the southwest burrito on a plate instead. It was a "to go" order. A couple of things happened: 1. There's less than an inch of difference between the medium and large size burritos. 2. If you want your burrito on a plate, you have to pay an extra $1.50. Whaaaat? I'm saving you a tortilla. 3. Guacamole is extra as well. (Qdoba wins) 4. My plate turned out to look like I had smashed it on the floor when it was served. But, they weren't all negative things: 1. Free fountain soda with student ID. 2. Great flavor, especially fresh tomatoes. 3. Bilingual. (Mexican restaurants sometimes don't have bilingual personnel believe or not) 4. The Southwest Burrito does include guac. 5. Prices were below $10. I may go again if my pocket has holes and I'm around the neighborhood.

Our family of four (two adults and two children) absolutely LOVES, LOVES, LOVES this Authentic Mexican Restaurant! Oh Tango Mango, you have done it again! Each and every experience with this restaurant has put a smile on each of our faces. My favorite is the Blackened Cajun Chicken. I'm addicted! The menu says the chicken is rubbed with their special cajun spice mix, has rice, beans, salsa, guacamole & sour cream. To me it magical goodness. Tip: I have them add a little extra sour cream. My wife has bounced around the menu, but often gets the Fiesta Salad with Steak. Our son (he is nine years old) likes the Quesadillas and Nachos, we usually let him get both so we can all grab a few of the nachos and our daughter (who is now 14 and a picky eater) says she is addicted to the Chili and often orders the Fajitas plate. Way more then she can eat, which is just fine by this dad LOL! We used to have Mexican food maybe a handful of times a year before we found you... Great job all of you at Tango Mango, we will see you again next week! Yum Yum Give Me Some!

A very good, quick Mexican restaurant. I generally get their burritos. The carnitas are by far the best meat that they offer. I would also recommend the blackened chicken. This is a great place to eat if you want a good, cheap and quick lunch or dinner.

A couple of my colleagues have been talking this place up for a while and we finally went there for a work lunch today. I was skeptical due to the poor overall ratings the restaurant has received on Yelp, but my concerns were put to rest very quickly. The food is delicious and cheap and the service is quick. I had a large carnitas (pork) burrito and I left full and happy. We ordered some chips and guac and salsa to share as well. I thought the salsa was delicious - it has just the right hint of lime - however, it is a little watery. The guac was just right and I think it had the perfect mix of flavors. Overall I was impressed with this place and I hope to return!

I have the chili verde super burrito. The taste was really good... great fresh flavors. Service was ok....but i did notice prices change every time i visit. If it keeps happening, then I will probably go someplace else for a while.

We stopped in here to get a burrito while visiting my boyfriend's family & I was thoroughly impressed. As a current resident of the Bay Area, I live around a lot of self-described burrito snobs but I would say that the burritos from Tango Mango keep up with the mission style burritos I've enjoyed in SF. As a vegetarian, there are rarely any unique burrito options...so the incredible assortment of grilled vegetables (including plantains!!!) was such a nice surprise. The crown jewel of Tango Mango's offerings is the way that they melt the cheese on the tortillas before they put the rest of the fillings in there. It's insanely unique & creates a quesadilla effect instead of having cold shreds of cheese in every bite. Head over to Tango Mango if you're in the Newton area & hankering for a delicious burrito. You won't be disappointed. Bonus - the owner is incredibly friendly & helpful.

My friend and I were going to see a concert at the 1st Baptist Church in Newton last Saturday and arrived about 45 mins before the start. We wanted to grab a bite to eat before the show since it wouldn't be out till late. Much of Newton Centre was closed Saturday evening so we were glad to stumble upon this Mexican joint. I appreciated the fair amount of vegetarian and vegan options they had. She got the portobello quesadilla with avocado and no cheese which at first I kind of snubbed thinking about it, but after trying it I regretted not getting it - yum! It's cool how they roll it up like a burrito even though it's a quesadilla. I've never seen that before. It was warm and crunchy. They didn't serve it with salsa/guac/sour cream to dip it in like most places do but that didn't matter because she didn't want it anyway. I ordered a bowl of the gazpacho with chips, though they gave me a cup (I didn't ask them to change it because it seemed big enough). It was yummy but the presentation was weak. Anytime you take a pre-made plastic container out of the refrigerator and serve it to me, you loose points. I can see that for orders made to-go, but for people who are eating there (we ate outside, nice weather - thankful for the outdoor tables and seats), they should pour it into a cup for you so it seems fresher. I also got one bean taco (corn tortillas here yum) with salsa, lettuce and no cheese. It was good but not the best I've ever have. The service was very friendly - the woman at the register complimented our dresses (sweet!) My only complaint would be all the wasteful plastic ware - everything was plastic utensils, plastic cups, etc. They should get reusable stuff or buy biodegradable utensils/containers. Also there were no cut up limes or hot sauces around to add to your order like there are in Chipotle which I like a lot (people should be able to customize their food). I'm glad the chips came in a bag because I snuck them in my purse and ate them during the intermission of the concert for a snack.

Located in the heart of Newton Center, Tango Mango is a solid burrito joint with hot salsa and no frills. We went on a Sunday morning during an excursion to the Craft Beer Cellar (conveniently located practically next door), and ordered the Southwest and the Spicy Chicken burritos. It's a walk-up-and-order joint similar to other local burrito places, but the dexterity of the staff blew those others out of the water -- the speed with which the guy made our burritos was positively mesmerizing. After paying and grabbing a seat in the adjoining, brightly-colored dining room, we settled in to examine our meals. Both burritos were of a decent size; my boyfriend ordered a large and I had a regular and neither of us left hungry. We both commented on the sneaky kick within the confines of that perfectly-folded tortilla -- and, having ordered a combo with the word "spicy" in it, I was expecting some solid heat. The chorizo was the culprit in his, and the heat in the salsa verde in mine was no joke! This was a positive, for sure! The only negative that I can cite is that, as in so many other burrito experiences, the filling of mine seemed to slip to the bottom of the wrap, leaving me with a lot of rice up top and a soggy, spice-laden mess to slurp up from the bottom. That kind of goes with the territory, though, so I wouldn't hold that against them! Given its proximity to CBC Newton, the tasty burritos and the decent price, I'm sure we'll be back to Tango Mango in the future!

I have been a culinary professional for the last 20 years, 2 of them most recently at a Southwestern/South American joint in the Back Bay and i try to remain impartial when it comes to judging any establishment. I had been here once before with my girlfriend about 8 months ago and neither of us were impressed then. But hey......maybe they've changed? nope. I stopped by here for a quick bite on way to Watertown. I walked in around 11:45 and it was lightly busy. I went up to the counter and they had the menu tacked to the glass barrier in front of their hot well. i wanted something fairly quick, so i chose their "QB Supreme". That's $6.50 for a quesadilla with sour cream and guacamole. I spoke up to the cook across the line, telling him what i want...and immediately the guy starts to steam a tortilla with cheese. I quickly corrected him that i wanted a "QB Supreme....a quesadilla, not a burrito". Apparently they have a burrito called the "BB Supreme" that's a burrito with sour & guac. Easy mistake, take it in stride, The cook asks me what i would like in it and i say carnitas...let me stop right now. I have been to maybe.....10 of this style taquerias in the greater Boston area....i know what they pretty much generally should be doing. The portion of carnitas was underwhelming. i guarantee if you put it on a scale, it would be well under 2 ounces. Then the salsa....maybe a hair shy of 1 ounce. Let's not forget the sour cream and guacamole that i have paid an extra $2 for. As soon as it went on....i lost it. The guy put a literal DRIZZLE of each...a mere taste. I'm paying extra here.....i want a full portion...so yes...i complained....i explained what i was getting to the cook, that i was paying extra.....and i damn well better get extra...not a taste. Every single cook( 3 of them) looked at me like i had 3 heads. Just because i'm a white guy in Newton Center....does not make me ignorant or naive. Not trying to be racist here....but these 3 non-white cooks....they gave me the worst service i've ever had at a taqueria....and did nothing to make me want to come back. The icing on the cake? The guy at the register told me "there's no reason to talk to my cooks like that". Really? How about..." We're sorry, how can we make it better for you?" If you want lip-smacking deliciousness of the Taco Shop kind....head to Los Amigos on Centre Street in West Roxbury as well as in Newton.

Their website says they're open until 9 PM on Sundays, and their voicemail message says they're open until 10 PM on Sundays, but I went there at 8:20 PM on a Sunday and they were locked up and closed with no notice on the doors as to why. I could see the people mopping up the floor and cleaning the grill down... I have visited Tango Mango in the past, for a quick Mexican fix, but their food is nothing to write home about. I like their guac but it is way overpriced for the tiny amount they give you.

Okay... screw you naysayers.... I am a fan of Mango Tango. To be fair, I only ever order one thing and I usually call in advance so it's there waiting for me but... soo good. I go with spicy chicken AND veggies, cheese, a little rice, lots of salsa, and hot sauce. Try it my way, and THEN update your review accordingly. :)

Having spent plenty of my adult life in San Francisco, I miss the corner taqueria. The nondescript place with a grill full of sizzling chicken and carnitas. The place with the big menu on the wall, bowls of different types of salsa, and a line at the counter. Pickled jalapenos, onions, and carrots on the table. Tango Mango is basically that place. They're California's answer to the diner. (The real difference is that customers on Centre Street in Newton speak less spanish than those on 16th and Mission in San Francisco.) The food here is what you'd expect. Grilled chicken that tastes like grilled chicken. Carnitas? You know slowly roasted pork doesn't ever get bad. Having been here a bunch, allow me to address some of the concerns in reviews. Small portions? You know, this is America where we are rotund by nature and huge portions are the norm. I kind of like that the portions here are under control. If you really want a gut-busting mountain of meat for a few shiny nickels, you can just find a Chilis or something. Rude staff? Nobody here is rude. Or more specifically, in several years of coming here sporadically and randomly and being served by plenty of different people, nobody has been rude. But just like people working behind counters everywhere, if you are rude to them they will be rude back. Remember that. Not "authentic"? What's authentic? I guarantee that if you ever find yourself in a part of Mexico that doesn't have a Club Med you won't find anything like this. You might actually find that "burrito" has a different meaning. It's a silly metric to judge this type of place by.

This place ain't no Anna's. While I appreciate an Anna's Taqueria ripoff in the heart of Newton Centre, it just doesn't measure up. This place follows the same design, menu style and food-prep format as Boston's favorite taqueria, Anna's Taqueria. As the name might suggest, however, this place is stupid. I mean, the quality of the food is pretty good, but the lack of originality loses an automatic point or two. Also, when I eat tacos and burritos I expect my stomach to be angry at me for an hour, but not as badly as Tango Mango made me feel. Service was friendly, a new Hispanic gentleman rolling my burrito and a middle-aged woman behind the register (presumably the owner) who had a half sweet/half bitchy attitude. Also, the new guy couldn't answer a basic question about the spiciness of a major menu item, and he messed up our order. I ordered a burrito with steak, but got carnitas, while my brother's "carnitas taco" contained beef. We ate our meal and it served its purpose of filling up our bellies, but I won't suggest this restaurant to any of my friends. Also, the single unisex bathroom required a ludicrously large key to enter, a la likes of a dirty old gas station in the middle of nowhere.

okay, i will go with a criticism sandwich on this one... on a positive note, the decor is fun (brightly colored mexican-american, painted tiles, bright hues).. on the other hand, this place is overpriced and really skimpy on the burrito toppings. my husband asked for extra peppers and they barely sprinkled any on (and charged extra).. the taste is also blah.. and another positive.... hm, they steam the tortilla-? that's always a good thing.. but yeah, take your money & go to anna's instead! not a big fan of this place..

So, this is what it takes to compel one to post their first review... I'm sorry to all of those business owners who have treated me right all these years for not writing a positive review. Oh well, I guess you have to start somewhere. So the first time I got belittled by the owner of Tango Mango for questioning how small the portions were, I was bitter but I was stupid enough to continue going there (not because the food is so great but because it's walking distance to my house and it's basically the only game in town). Hint: huge opportunity for someone thinking about opening a similar inexpensive, somewhat healthy fast food establishment in Newton Centre. I consider myself a burrito pro. I eat burritos at least five times a week from various establishments. You know them all, Boca Grande, Anna's, El Pelon, Bolloco, etc. I know my burritos. This time, I ordered a pork burrito and I swear, if there was more than two forks full, I'd be shocked. The owner was standing off to the side and did not see how much there was. I ordered a "Big Burrito" and asked the guy making it "is that a Big Burrito because it's an awfully small portion?" and he asked if I wanted more and if I wanted to pay for it. I said no, don't worry about it. I was planning on just walking out quietly because this was not the first time I've had the same problem here (inconsistently small portions, embarrassingly small, no accountability, and no sense of the customer is right). Then, the owner comes over and starts raising her voice at me, "what, you want more? You want rice? You want salsa? What, he put 4 ounces of meat in there, what do you want?". I said "I don't want anything" and I put the sodas I had in my hand back in the cooler. The guy making it did not measure or weigh the portion. He randomly grabbed some meat with tongs and she's insisting there's 4 ounces. I just said to forget it, I know my burritos. I don't want it anymore and walked out. I'm a business owner. My clients and my relationships are everything to me. I can't do business with people who do not share the same business virtues I do. I work too hard to give my money to someone who treats their customers like garbage. My only regret is going back after the first time this happened to me. I'm not stupid though. It won't happen a third time.

I am a big fan of Tango Mango for a few reasons... You can call in your order while driving and it is ready in about 3 minutes- it is good for you fast food (I dont do McDonald's/BK/taco bell). Healthy options include: fiesta salads, fish tacos and whole wheat burrito wrap! The workers here are always so friendly- I will say that I have heard the place serves "bland/salt-less" food. I dont usually put salt on anything so I enjoy the taste of the food here... you can always add the salt people!

    (4)
  • Neily X.

I now live in Newton Centre and am lazy so go here instead of heading to Anna's in Brookline. The biggest problem here is the portions. Completely ridiculous how little meat you get.

    (2)
  • Alena K.

Okay, the burritos here are REALLY good. REALLY REALLY good. I will agree that the cashier lady can be really rude, she's like always in a bad mood or something. Its funny because she used to be like the nicest person ever when that place first opened. whatever though, she won't stop me from eating the most magical burritos atleast once a week!

    (4)
  • Joe J.

So I came in here the other day on my lunch break, and let me tell you, the other Yelp reviews are spot on. Portions are smaller, food is blander, and prices are higher. How does that make sense? Not to mention the lady that works the front counter is as rude as ever. My coworker asked for extra rice because they put that little in his burrito and the lady at the counter said she wouldn't charge him like she was doing him a favor. Lady, how much does rice cost? That extra scoop legitimately probably cost less than a penny. I can understand charging extra for meat and other things, but rice? GIVE ME A BREAK. Also, the portions are so small that they are at the point where you should probably request double everything in your burrito to even get full/have some sort of flavor. This place is a joke and just an inferior version of Anna's. The lady talks about overhead costs, well Anna's has multiple spots in Brookline, has fair prices, and people wait out the door for their food because the service if friendly, portions are reasonable, and the food has flavor. AVOID THIS PLACE. I'm personally hoping it goes out of business and Anna's moves right in so I don't have to drive to Brookline during lunch for a halfway decent burrito. I also get that you are catering to Newton people and they generally have coin, but so do people in Brookline and you don't see the owners of Anna's trying hard to squeeze every penny out of their customer. Maybe I should just open up a decent burrito shop in Newton Centre? Now there is some food for thought!

    (1)
  • Erin D.

I think the staff thinks I'm crazy because I order steak, chicken and veggies with black beans, salsa and guacamole and no rice. Yes it costs more, but I don't care I want what I want and I don't want rice! The owner has commented on how big the burrito is before, she even said that's a lot of food. I'm not fat, I'm hungry, and I gave you money, Recently becoming gluten intolerant I now order burrito as a Mexican plate because they don't have burritos bowls. When I get home I put it into bowl rather than eating it separated, If they just had bowls I would be content.

  • Phil M.

This place is no Anna's. I think that is the best way to say it. When they first opened, they ran into CVS for insect and fly killing materials. They had a little bit of a problem, and apparently had to get rid of it fast. (I have my sources) So that sucks, if you can't keep a clean business you better not make a big scene in CVS about it. (Strike one) I gave them a little time to get settled in, and then I went. It was about 2 months after they opened...the staff were a little on the unfriendly side, The portions weren't that great and the prices were jacked up, so I stopped going. (strike two) Fast forward to today, I go in and get a "large burrito" Like all the other reviews I noticed how the size has gotten smaller. I saw the help chop up 3 pieces of chicken and put that in the burrito. Not really impressed with that. I totally understand that the rent in Newton Center must be high, the recession must be eating away at the business, and that food prices are high. BUT, the smaller meat in the burrito? If I wanted a rice roll up, I'd make it myself. Sorry to be harsh, but this place has a lot to learn. Strike 3 and 3 strikes and you are out. If you want a better burrito, go to Anna's or go to Carl's depending if you want to venture into Brookline or Waltham.

    (2)
  • Natasha R.

So my husband and I have been fairly loyal customers for the last few years and for a while it seemed like Tango Mango was just getting better and better. Recently we've been noticing the burritos going down in size, and the prices being jacked up. Once upon a time we could order 2 big burritos with cheese and sour cream and maybe chips or something and it was around $11. Now everytime we go in, just for burritos (even medium sized ones) we walk out having paid close to $15-18 dollars. Just last night we ordered two regular sized burritos and noticed the porportions diminished. I get the economy sucks and the restaurant business is tough and it is Newton, but come on. Now you're starting to alienate your most loyal of customers.

  • Stephen S.

Looks like Anna's, feels like Anna's, but not nearly as tasty or good of a value as Anna's. This place confused me. Burritos are not difficult and Tango seemed to have all the right ingredients, even firm veggies and not the crappy soggy ones you find elsewhere--I'm looking at you El Pelon. But nothing was seasoned (read: bland), the portions were tiny (read: minuscule), and the woman at the register was oddly out of place. Oh well, back to Coolidge Corner.

    (2)
  • Debra L.

Wow, people are all over the place on this one. I am easy to please when it comes to burrito's because I put so much hot sauce on it (and also ask for extra jalapeno's) that I don't really even taste what I eat. My mouth just burns - and I like it. I am also a fan of the places that melt the cheese onto the tortilla, which Tango Mango does but Chipotle, for example, does not. I could actually detect some of the flavor of the spicy chicken and it was really good - and so nicely shredded that it was really soft. I agree it's a dumb name but I don't care. I like this place. Service is fast and friendly. We were in and out (we got take-out) in under 5 minutes today. I also like that the menu offers a little more variety than just burrito's (though that is all I've had from here).

    (5)
  • Arinne B.

The best thing this place has going for it is it's location and the fried plantains. Portions are smaller than any other burrito place, and the food is less flavorful. The staff was not friendly and the pricing for all the extras is not very clear. The woman at the register watches what they put in your burrito and charges accordingly...which made me wonder how accurate she was being. I ended up paying $18 for a taco, burrito and side of plantains (and as I'm allergic, my burrito had no cheese, sour cream, guacamole, or beans.) Try Moe's or El Dorado or even Chipotle instead.

My wife and I love burritos. We use to frequent Chipolte and Qdoba. But then we moved to Newton Center and tried Tango Mango on the recommendation of a friend. We fell in love. Tango Mango is hands down the best of these style Mexican/burrito places. The food is fresh and made to order. The proteins are delicious and guacamole is out of this world, and my wife is a bit of a guac-snob. The staff is amazing and friendly they work quickly and put together excellent burritos. And Shirley, the owner (I think) is a delight as well very friendly and inviting and so good to her staff "the boys" as she calls them. If you live even remotely close to Newton Center make it one of your regular spots. It has become one of ours and we couldn't be happier. I even bought the T-shirt.

After about three months of ordering for myself and my coworkers about once a week, I take back everything I said about Tango Mango being able to handle large, complex orders well. Two weeks ago, I attempted to place our order, and was met with a phone that rang and rang and then was picked up and placed on the counter without so much as a "Hello, can you please hold?" I waited about fifteen minutes before I tried to call again and got a busy signal. Since I was planning to order 8+ items - all with different specifications - I figured I'd walk down and leave my order in person and come back for it since they were clearly busy. When I got there, the woman at the register shot me with a dirty look and an almost sarcastic "Is there something I can help you with?" and when I tried to explain that I'd like to leave an order with her, she interrupted to sputter angrily at me about how busy they were and how she didn't know what she could possibly do to accommodate my request. She finally acquiesced to take my order on paper but grumbled and mumbled about how ridiculous it was the whole time and eventually ripped the paper out of my hands with an "I don't know WHAT I'm going to do with this!" as she walked away. I didn't realize what a crazy request it was to place a takeout order at a restaurant! A much longer wait for an order during busy times I can totally understand, but the worst treatment I've ever received at a takeout place? You'd think our collective need for lunch was a personal attack on the cashier. I definitely won't be going back to Tango Mango; there are plenty of places to eat in Newton Centre and I certainly won't starve, but I'm really bummed out by the whole experience.

Usually packed but I don't care. I love Tango Mango. Their carnitas burritos on steamed tortillas are to die for. I like more salt than they use in their cooking so I hand a little packet of salt to the guy preparing my food and it's perfect every time. Fresh food and generous portions at good prices. Extra guacamole cost extra but if you read the menu, it's all there. You can't please all of the people all of the time - especially in Newton - but this is my go-to pace for burritos.

Not bad. Not good. I've decided that this place is tolerable if you stick to a vegetarian course, because it's mostly their meat that screws up a good burrito. The steak is stringy and tasteless. The spicy chicken is equally flavorless, I have no idea where they get spicy from. Honestly, the best luck I've had so far is when I just said "screw it, just veggies". It's good if you want a burrito, but you'd probably enjoy one of those frozen 99-cent ones from Shaw's ten-fold.

I am sitting OUTSIDE Tango Mango as I write this, furious. Yes, the food is delicious, which is why I'm here. Why am I outside, you ask? Because Tango Mango does not have reliable hours. They essentially close at their own discretion and don't list hours on the door, for this reason I assume...BUT after searching on Google I see that they do not close until 9PM on Sunday nights! Why then is it 8:10 and the lights are off, doors are locked? Not a good way to keep customers happy, Tango Mango, and is entirely unprofessional!

I got what I expected from a suburban burrito joint named "tango mango". Can a bad burrito roller really cost a place two stars? You sure bet it can. This guy was amateur. The burrito in front of mine burst a hole as he was rolling it and he just kept rolling it. When it came my turn I told the guy "no beans" and he proceeded to scoop beans to put on my burrito. What followed was a moment of panic. I said "no beans" three times at increasing volume to the point where I was yelling in the restaurant. I stopped him just in time just as the beans hovered over my burrito but he still managed to get the bean juices on there. He then proceeded to roll a very uneven burrito. I really got two types of burrito wrapped in one. The first half was chicken and rice only and the second half was salsa, sour cream and rice. Too bad I live in the city and have tried every burrito place in a 50 mile radius. This place is good if you are a local and don't want to drive to boston but in the grand scheme of burrito places it is subpar.

It's the nest best thing to Anna's Taqueria in the area. It's a little pricier, but the parking is easier, and it's about 20 minutes closer to my house. Carnitas quessadilla is my favorite. SOOOOOOOO good. They do charge a bit much for guacamole on the side and the container is the size of a side order of salad dressing, but other than the prices this place is pretty good. Don't order the nachos, waste of $$$$

This is your classic Mexican place. I really like the burritos, so I stick with those. Branched out to a quesadilla once, and since then I've decided to go with what I know. The staff is friendly and fairly quick. They recently expanded so now there is also a good deal of seating inside, which is nice. There's not much that sets this apart from other Mexican places, but I leave happy and satisfied every time.

I live and work around the corner from Tango Mango and it far exceeds the expectations of any other substitute I've visited for my true love Anna's, when I can't make the long an laborious trip to Brookline to satisfy my burrito cravings (of which there are many). The staff is fun, they laugh when I try to order in Spanish (as I'm practicing my skills) but helpful. My food gets made quickly and just the way I order it. They recently expanded their dining area which is nice to be able to sit down. Anna's will always remain first in my heart but Tango Mango you'll be like my Teddy Bear that I cuddle when my boyfriend's away.

The place is small and modest but I love their food and efficient, quick service. They have a wide variety of regular Mexican food which you can find pretty much everywhere... Parking is fairly easy to find in Newton center both on the street and the center lot and it has pretty good hours. Their staff speaks English too and the prices are fair. I usually get the spicy chicken burritos there and a side of guacamole and chips which is also very good. The only thing that sucks and which is common for Mexican places is that they charge extra for certain toppings like guacamole and they don't put much on it for the price.... But I still find it quite tasty and convenient. I'm surprised that other reviews complained that theirs was dry; I guess mine wasn't because of the extra guac I had in my burrito. Oh and one star for having outdoor seating! Love it!

Folks here is the scoop on this place. There are plenty of other better burrito places around. Anna's, Boloco, Qdoba, etc etc. Let me fill you in. Enter Tango Mango. People are nice but a rip off. I get a burrito and nachos supreme w/ soda. Burrito Listed at 5.00 Nachos listed at 5.75 Drink 1.50 Cashier rings me up, it is $16.42! WTF? $2.50 extra for Guacamole and Sour Cream on both items?? I understand Newton is a nice area but this is a ripoff. I hate places like this that sneak in those extra costs. Look I am not trying to ruin this guy's business but don't rip people off. $10 would have been more than enough for what I bought. I could have gone over to Union Street and bought a nachos there for $10 and it would have been 3 times the size and soooo much better.

While aimlessly wandering around Newton Centre before a manicure appointment, and much to my tastebuds surprise, I happened upon Tango Mango. How to make a 'whoops I forgot to eat lunch and am now starving' girl happy....give her a basket full of tasty fish tacos. Crispy and not too greasy tilapia, with a tangy fresh slaw, I'd definitely go back to Tango Mango for another round of these. Bonus that they also happened to have cans of Aranciata in the cooler! In true Taqueria style, the service was fast, the food was simple and tasty, and the seating area was brightly colored and clean. Newton Centre's not really on my normal hangout route, but I'd consider making the trip over there just to try other parts of the menu. Yum!

Everyone around Boston talks about Anna's as the best burritos around. I beg to differ. I was first introduced me to Tango Mango a few months ago, and now I stop by at least once a week. Whenever I get that craving for Mexican, TM is the place. The seating area is pretty funky looking, with bright colors, etc. Not always the cleanest place, but it doesn't need to be for a burrito joint. Real fast service, tasty burritos (and quesadillas, too!). I'm dying to try the fish tacos, but I always get sucked in by the prospect of having another spicy chicken burrito. All in all though, really great tasting food.

The food is ok - I don't eat meat but my family says the steak and chicken is ok. The female proprieter can be snide and unpleasant. My husband dreads going in there but it is convenient for us. The karma around the food is important. Grilled veggies look ok but are greasy and overcooked.

  • Jasmine M.

It's alright. Most days, it's good, but sometimes you get one that's not so good. The staff is nice and fast, but they have had temporary guys who give me the creep look. During high school, my friends and I would go to TM and I have friends near Anna's so I think I'm a good judge. Anna's is still on my list, but if I really want a burrito at that very moment, I'll go to Tango Mango. For the price, I can't complain(though they did jack up prices and downsized portions). And for the same price, I could get a bigger better burrito at Anna's. But If I'm hungry at Newton Center, it's one of my options.

    (3)
  • Ashley H.

I was hungry, in Newton Center, and wanted a quick bite. So I got a burrito. Big Mistake. Now, I don't expect a whole lot of kick from a burrito place in Newton, but I do expect... salt. The rice didn't taste like anything. The beans didn't taste like anything. The meat was mostly only distinguishable from anything else by texture (which was probably because it appeared to be sitting in water? huh???) Adding on guac was a mistake, as it cost extra and had no flavor. The only thing that tasted like something were the tomatoes in the salsa, and even then, I make a better salsa, which is pathetic. Worst of all, I was still hungry after I finished it. It didn't taste like food, and I guess my stomach decided it wasn't filling like food. Plenty of people have suggested better places- Anna's, Felipe's, Boca Grande are, yes, all easily better. But so is Taco Bell.

  • Greg L.

Great standard burritos made quickly and reliably. The food is amazingly consistent and ingredients seem fresh (particularly the vegetables). Other Mexican places can go for over-the-top flavors and wild combinations. But Mango Tango has cornered the market on very solid and filling burritos. Similar to Anna's in Brookline.

    (4)
  • Andrew H.

The only reason that I go to Tango Mango is when I am too lazy to drive to Brookline for Anna's Taqueria or Boca Grande. It's an okay alternative and gets you full but the food is kind of flavorless; the meats and salsa taste very bland. Also, the "Big" Burrito isn't all that big so if you're looking to pig out, don't expect the same portions that you'd get from Anna's. Even though they give you less food, it is still priced a bit higher than Anna's. This place is nothing special but I am glad it's there for those days when I'm feeling sluggish.

  • Karen S.

Sorry, but the 2 is only for friendliness; the people here are usually very nice. But the food just doesn't cut it. For some reason --and I am not exaggerating at all-- after I eat here I just feel like throwing up. Even though it's closer to where I live (Chestnut Hill/BC), I just find myself taking the time to go to Felipe's in Harvard Sq.

  • Julia F.

I am horrified. My dad stopped in for lunch while at work to grab a burrito for him and a steak quesadilla for me. The food took forever. My bag only contained (of course once we were too far away from there to go change it) a mangled tortilla with very little cheese. Where did the insides go to my quesadilla? No one will ever know.

  • Kristine M.

Bland and dry burritos. They reminded me of Anna's, which I also dislike. Really small menu. Hardly any place to sit and the tables were all dirty. And I'm no "OMG, burritos in Boston all suck, go to California if you want REAL burritos" type of gal. Heck, I'm from Jersey!! Skip this place and instead drive to Waltham and go to Taqueria Mexico.

    (2)
  • J. L.

The people here are very friendly, but the food is just alright. Ordered a Taco because I was at a Mexican restaurant. It was far from delicious. I actually prefer my home made ones.

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I REALLY WISH THERE WAS A NO STAR OPTION! This is NOT about the food! However you are better off going to Anna's if you're looking for great burritos! THIS IS ABOUT THE HORRIFIC CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was appalled by the cashiers (Vickie) attitude/behavior....I work at a salon a few blocks down from them, and I had a 5+ order. I decided to call but unfortunately no one picked up, so my last option was to walk down, hold up a line, but hey not my fault if they would pick up their phone. So of course I go in with my order notifying the cashier from the end of the line that I was going to be paying for the first item I ordered separately, but before I could finish my sentence she quickly said she was labeling them, assuming I was asking something else. The gentlemen behind me seemed annoyed as I would be too, but after the cook finished his burrito, somehow the cashier couldn't cash him out first because she has to "DO IT IN ORDER" lol NONSENSE, but whatever... So I finally get up to the register, and tell her i'm paying for an item separately, she quickly huffs that she can't do that because she already did it all together. I said well i'm putting and item on my debit card, she continues to say she can't do anything, so I quickly get angry and say well then you will have to take the money I have and ill take my food.... That's when she pulls out her calculator slamming it on the counter furiously subtracting my order from the rest. I then pay for the other items and ask her for a receipt, since I have to give people change. She tells me she can't...hahahaha the story gets better, I say, I can't get a receipt? She says no I can't give you one. Ok so i'm assed out and forced to just get an updated menu, which I ask the cook for instead of her. I told her she was rude, that I didn't realize I needed to notify her forms of payment, nor did I need to ask for a receipt before hand. I was beyond livid, and I don't know what stopped me from CUSSING THE SHIT OUT OF THIS LADY! She almost brought out the ghetto in me!!!!!!!!!! oh and I ask her for her name, she ignores me, so I ask again, and she says "its Vickie, you are more than welcome to call the owner and complain about me, but I don't know how much she will sympathize with you" WOW! I WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE NO MATTER HOW MUCH IM CRAVING NACHOS, OR A BURRITO!!! Tango Mango in Waltham, GO THERE INSTEAD!

  • Evan Y.

I'm not a fan of bland, toned down for Americans Mexican food, but unfortunately, sometimes I get a craving for Mexican food and this is the closest place to where I work. At 7 dollars for a "big" burrito, I was expecting something...well...big. It wasn't. The taste doesn't make up for the high price and small size either, the meat is bland, no matter what you order. The worst part is the fact that when you ask for them to make it spicy, they give you their "special" sauce and it's really an insult to Mexican fast food. Places like this are one of the more disappointing Mexican places in Boston, which is saying a lot because there really are very few adequate places around here.

I usually get the Southwestern or one of the Fajitas burritos and find their burritos have a pleasant fresh and delicious taste. The lunch line can take a bit due to the indecisive, but even then in under 10 minutes I had a burrito for me and a co-worker made and paid for and out the door! I sometimes sneak in some extra hot sauce when eating it just because I like it that way. I have always found the service fast and friendly. I am a regular and looking forward to their Waltham location opening which is close to work. The street parking is usually not too challenging. I consider this a safe place to go when I want a burrito, don't know what I want and not feeling anything else or just want to go out for a quick, easy, no-fuss tasty meal.

I was always on the fence about Tango Mango. My first exposure to it was when I was being trained at my new job in Newton Centre. My predecessor ate there everyday (literally!) so I would always just tag along for the ride. I mainly stuck to tacos or a side of guacamole with chips. Not too creative and not always that filling. Fast forward a couple of months and I found myself there with a coworker. Following her lead, I ordered a Spicy Chicken Burrito with cheese, beans, rice, salsa, guac, sour cream, and hot sauce. I don't know if I was just especially hungry that day, but it really hit the spot. There was so much that I was only able to eat 3/4 of the medium sized burrito. Reasons unknown, I started craving this Spicy Chicken Burrito for days afterwards. So I ventured in on my own one day when I wanted a quick lunch. This time however, it was not as good. In fact, it seemed pretty bland and not spicy at all, like they advertised. I tried it a few more times and have had some good and some bad. After some research and several test burritos, I have deduced that the key to keeping the Spicy Chicken Burrito is requesting extra hot sauce. The food is good if you're craving some fast Mexican food. I don't know if it's worth going out of your way to pick up a burrito that's twice as expensive than the menu price because you got charged with so many "add ins" that should come standard. And don't forget the chips (which, you have a 50/50 chance of getting stale instead of fresh) and a side of salsa or guac for $3+. But since it's located within walking distance from my office, I will continue to support them when the craving hits.

A harmless burrito and taco joint, with Frida Kahlo-esque decor. I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about, the food is fine, and the prices are low.

  • Carrie M.

This place just lacks something. I agree with the fact that they have no flavor. They are fresh, the veggies in the burrito are good, and I love that they pick through them to make sure you get a mix and not just all green peppers. Just keep in mind, everything you want here will cost you more, and more, and more. Don't get chips and salsa, way over priced and nothing impressive. SO I guess I'll say this place isn't bad, it's just not anything great. Would I go there again, yeah probably. Would I go out of my way to go there, nope.

Very well constructed burritos. A veritable food brick. You can hold the thing with your hands and eat it like a Snickers bar. It doesn't fall apart. As many others here have said, it's Anna's Metro-West for those of us that don't feel like driving to Cambridge or Brookline. The ingredients are tasty and the service is as quick as can be, though a line does build up around lunch time. Usually it's the people in line who can't make up their mind that cause the logjam. Sometimes the spicy pork can get a bit too spicy, even for me, and I love hot foods. It's been a long time since that's happened, but it's a possibility. Also, the woman who sits at the cash register (who I assume is the owner) isn't particularly friendly. I sometimes wrestle with going there because her attitude doesn't inspire me to give her my money, even though it's only around $6 for a large burrito.

    (4)
  • Kendra S.

Can someone kindly explain to me why there was an assembly line of burrito construction workers whom I assume were Latino, but the cash registristas were all Newton Talbots-rocking blondies in the 50+ bracket? Most confusing demographic behind the burrito bar I've ever seen. As for the veggie fajita burrito, it was pretty good. Overpriced, but certainly very fresh and fulfilling. I prefer Felipe's in Harvard Square. It's cheaper.

ok, well ive read the reviews after i went, is that swaying me?, no, but it still delivers several excellent points. this is anna's metro west. what do i mean, its nothing exciting, however, if you like annas you will like this, just you wont have to drive to at least brookline to go. you can read what i said bout there, same thing sort of. i tried the pork this time as ive been burned too many times with annas chicken. i know, jerk this isnt anna's, oh isnt it? same thing different day. i will say though it could have had some spices in the mix, and not hot sauce, just spice. also to consider andonly as pointed out, they are more stingy with the 'heart' of the burrito. same cost, same look. i asked for sour cream, the moron behind the counter flung a spatula at the general area of my order, it hit on the bottom and all in the same area( you all know what i speak of, oh yes), is that balanced eats? no dice. wifey got the veggie, i saw them hack it up, variety yes, quantity, no. same look and taste, however we ate there, it was 90 degrees in there easy. hey! open a window or use some a/c dudes. its hot and people are on lunch, hence more people, more heat, i dont want that. so anyway, mer commented on how the food was different cause it was served hot, case in point, annas or mango is best eaten right away prior to solidification, eww. so in closing we are expecting one here in the tham, its going into the shop of the void on maple. when that happens mer will be happy cause mediocre burritos are a few blocks away. thats all that needs to be said about this place.

If I could give this place few negative stars I would do that. I have been there number of times, primarily because of my kid. And every time, I feel like someone steals my money. This time, my son asked for a little bit more chicken and they charged me extra two bucks. so for a Burrito that cost $5.50 they charged extra $2. And when I said NO THANKS, I DON'T WANT IT ANYMORE he replied, "this is what we do always and everyone pays". And they always try to load it with as little as possible. Maybe they feel that being in Newton Center, they can charge as much as they want and people ares stupid enough to pay. The only way is to boycott this place.

  • Holly S.

If I was in the area and had a hankerin' for a burrito, I wouldn't think twice about going here. But I wouldn't make a special trip here either. Burritos here are entirely fine but could stand a much spicier hot sauce. (Anna's holds the gold standard here). A little pricier than some of the other burrito joints in the area, but for how filling they are, it's not such a hefty price to pay. They're opening up a shop on Moody Street in Waltham sometime soon--in a seemingly doomed location. I'm hoping for the best though, because Waltham could sure use a quick-serve taqueria. Two and three-quarter stars. (I know, ridiculous. But they're a noodge not as good as Anna's--and I need to make that clear. I'm feeling guilt toward Ms. Anna, whomever she may be.)

  • Rob C.

Usually i try to avoid places with the words 'fresh' or 'healthy' in their tag lines, but i figured i'd give it a shot anyway. It's entirely possible that my novice taste for Mexican food renders this review wholly useless, but i thought the spicy chicken here was just right. Enough to make you finish your beverage, but not enough to require another. Maybe i went bare-bones, but i got a burrito and a soda for $6.83; i routinely pay more for less food for lunch out at work in Maynard, so that seems pretty good to me. The food's prepared absurdly fast, and the folks who make it are nice. Maybe it's the beans that screw it up. i ditched the beans so maybe i got more room for good stuff. Stupid beans. Anyway, it's not so awesome as to make it a regular choice for me, but it's a good change from my usual diet of chicken mcnuggets, jolt cola, and ellio's pizza.

Not bad, really. The people who own this place are really, really nice. They cut the veggies in front of you right before they go into the burritos (kinda cool), but I never end up with a satisfactory amount of chicken. When I order a chicken burrito, I kinda hope for the chicken to take center stage! I've never had Anna's so I can't compare, but it's pretty decent. When the Subway dudes are being douchebags (they run out of food/bread a lot..seriously), I'll usually end up next door at Tango Mango.

  • Ilene F.

Hooray! Now there's a burrito worse than Anna's! I was at an event where they were supplying the grub, which consisted of premade burritos and nothing else. I mean nothing. No guac, no chips, no salsa, no sour cream, only bland meat surrounded by salty rice, chalky beans, and no discernible cheese or pico. They left menus out. And those too, were boring. P. U.

I had the grilled chicken burrito and a pair of fish taco, which they advertised for $6 or so dollars (not a very good deal). In total I spent $15 dollars for a burrito 2 tacos and a bottle of water... The food was ok but for the money I wasn't too happy. I also felt a little nausea afterwards.

I've been to this place twice now. I find the burritos to be very similar to Anna's Taqueria, of which I'm also a big fan. It may not be totally "authentic" for you purists out there, but either way they have good ingredients that makes for a helluva burrito. The staff was quick to put my order together and to ring me up. The place is very clean in the seating area and behind the counter. There are only a few tables inside, and 1 or 2 on the sidewalk. If you like Anna's but are usually confined to the 'burbs as I am, Tango Mango is a little more accessible and very similar (based on my experience thus far). My baby she like to rock My baby she like to roll My baby she can dance all night My baby got no control She do the Wango Tango (Mango?) Check it out.

I didn't think it was possible to have such a bland burrito. The rice was dry, the tortilla was weird, the cheese had little taste, the chicken was grilled with no seasoning, the salsa was ok (it was the only think with any hint of flavor) and I had to search the place for hot sauce...c'mon people. this place is an insult to the burrito. I second the motion to support Felipes in harvard square, even if it is further away from my house. make the trip, you won't regret it.

Mango Tango / Tango Mango is having a serious name crisis. Is it Mango first or Tango first? The window says one thing, but the menus say another. I ordered the spicy chicken medium burrito / burrito medium chicken spicy, and hubby ordered the cheese quesadilla / quesadilla cheese. The burrito was a nice size and weight for $3.50, and was full of rice and beans. When I asked for guacamole, I got a teeny bit on the burrito, and the salsa was also put on pretty sparingly. The chicken was tender, perfectly shredded, with a medium spicyness.... The spicy was there but not too much flavor. Hubby's quesadilla was good, but he asked for jalapenos on top -- which were so spicy he began to sweat (in a good way). I was excited to get a bag of chips and salsa until the lady told me they were $3.50 -- WTF? Chips and salsa are freakin' cheap, and should be a taqueria staple added to every order with a smile on top. Nonetheless, I made a very noticeable frowny face at the register and complained (loudly) from our table that their chips were probably stale because no one in their right mind would pay more than a buck for chips and salsa. They were really small bags. I think she heard me. Oh well. To sum up, everything is decent here except the chips. They're highway robbery. Note the use of the word decent. Not outstanding but not bad either.

Beg to differ on the lack of stars, mi amigos. It's fast food that's ready in a minute, and is as good as Tex-mex gets within a 20 miles radius. Having been born and raised out West, I should know. The food is fresh and hearty enough that I don't mind paying a bit more for it. If you want crap that is inexpensive, then just go to Taco Bell and cierra la boca. I love that the owner (Shirl is her name I think) is a local who is almost always there behind the register, the help is consistent (dark and handsome), and the place is typically clean. Don't go there for ambiance, for goodness sake. Put your emergency blinkers on and just go in and out. Green Chili burritos w/ all the works are my favorite; carnitas are crispy and burnt like they're supposed to be; the guac is fresh made (albeit $$ but so are avocadoes anywhere you shop) and the quesadillas -- any kind-- are made to order. I'll be there tonight! see you there....

I think it's ok, nothing great but not bad by any means. They have some different choices and specials which are can be pretty solid. Good size and the ingredients are fresh. One thing is it can be bland at times, I got a veggie last time I went and it didn't really pack much flavor, I probably wouldn't get it again. One big negative, the salsa and chips are terrible. the chips are stale and the salsa is very watery.

For a while, I ate at Mango Tango's quite often, mostly because it was something a little different than the regular sandwich for lunch of dinner. But then I realized "Why the heck am I eating this?" Unfortunately, it's not really all that good, which pains me to say this because the people there are extremely nice and try to provide a good atmosphere to eat at. Paying extra for sour cream, salsa, and jalapenos is something that you really shouldn't have to do. And if you don't get the extra toppings, your burrito is really going to be a bland combo of rice, beans, and meat. If you are craving Mexican in Newton, this is probably the quickest and best place, but try and venture out of the city to get better food.

Despite a name that doesn't lead you to realize the fare, Tango Mango is a good option for those hankering for a good burrito in Newton Centre. For those who are fans of Anna's - give it a try - the similarities are uncanny.

Tango mango is alright. They have great burritos, but the sizes are really, really small not to mention kind of expensive. Oh well. Thanks for being vegetarian friendly!

Noticed lately food going down hill. The chicken burito I had the other day was terribly dry and greasy. Woman at register was very cranky toward the customers. I say if you go there bring your Tums. I also hate they way the employees slop on the sour cream and other fixings. I think I'll stick with Anna's.

I am not a big burrito eater, but I love their medium chicken fajita burrito. As I watch them make my burrito I always think that it looks so small for $7, but then halfway through the thing I always wonder if I will be able to finish it. :) Friendly servers, fresh ingredients, and if you can't find a place to park there is a big lot behind CVS. At lunchtime it can get pretty busy in there, so plan to take your log o' mexican goodness elsewhere.

Tango Mango helped get me through Law School. The dining options in Newton are bit limited, especially concerning Mexican food. The burritos here are good enough to beat Chipotle, which is the most one can expect in Boston. I recommend the big burrito supreme. The guacamole is also fantastic.

ZERO STARS- Single worst mexican I have ever had. How can you possibly make food taste like nothing? We can ask the cooks at this place. Way over priced, absolutely zero taste. All in all horrific. Anybody who is a fan of this place needs to have their taste buds examined. Gag.

Tango Mango is OK. The Boston burrito scene has grown considerably in the last few years, but there are still very few (if any) truly good places. Tango Mango's success is indicative of an environment where the demand for good burritos is still stronger then the supply. As such, a "OK" place can make a killing. If Tango Mango were in CA, they would go out of business very quickly. Kind of like how pizza in Boston can be mediocre but commercially successful. Ironically, there is nothing with Mango on the menu. Catchy name though. On a good day, Tango Mango provides good burritos made well. They are pretty small, but you can pay more to make them bigger. Negatives: Small burritos, stingy with every ingredient compromising overall burrito balance, frequently dry meats Positives: On a good day at the right time, they can make a decent burrito. Ingredient quality varies, but has never been bad the 20 or so times I have been there. The Chili Verde (lame not fresh tasting verde sauce) and Carnitas (way too dry, and cut too far in advance of burrito construction) are bad, however. All the other stuff is at least good. They offer a portobello quesadilla, but do not offer a portobello burrito, which I think is weird. Considering the inflationary environment that restaurant operators exist in , I am almost glad that Tango Mango's prices are such that they will sustain as a business. I often hear fellow customers complaining, but the reality is that good ingredients cost more than they used to. In all, I am glad there is a quick service "Mexicanish" place in Newton Center. I also feel better paying less than $10 for a Mexicanish meal than paying $20 at Sol Azteca for similarly "good-but-not-great-makes-you-wish-you-were-in-CA-or Mexico" food.

If you don't feel like driving all the way to Anna's (and when you live in Newton, who does?)..this is a great substitute. The burritos are large, fairly tasty, and well constructed. I appreciate when it doesn't totally fall apart in my hand. I agree, its not any kind of authentic Mexicano food, but its good, filling, and inexpensive! Yum.

Is it really all that bad? Well, I reckon so. It's been compared to Anna's, and rightfully so. Like Anna's, no matter what goes in, there's a consistent texture and taste. Rice=beans=tortilla, somehow. Even the hot sauce disappeared in the mush. The guacamole isn't noteworthy and stringently applied. On the plus: the meats looked appetizing and were only cut when ordered. My roasted vegetables had a bit more character than the rest of the players. I still like the chains best.

sorry, this place is a half step above taco bell. no flavor...their "spicy" is mild, and it's overpriced. save your money and time and go elsewhere.

This is my favorite burrito place around. I'm surprised to read the previous review that found the burritos here bland. My fiancee and I feel that this place has the tastiest burritos in Boston. She prefers the fajita burrito, which is pretty good, and I really like the chili verde. Not quite as cheap as Anna's but the quality is much better.

The best mexican fast food in the greater boston area. The end.

Good authentic burritos but watch the count at the register. They have sticky fingers!

I ordered their spicy chicken burrito without beans and it was pretty tasty; however, I ordered tortilla chips for $3.25 and a greasy paper bag came with about 10 completely stale chips and liquidy salsa. Not good.

The mediocre burritos don't come close to compensating for the unpleasant cashier/owner.

Real authentic Mexican food at good prices. The best item to get here is the spicy chicken burritos or anything with the spicy chicken. Great nibbles, uncomfortable seating. This is just a quick cheap eat, but very good.

Decent for burritos. Obviously doesn't compare to anna's and the likes, but if you're around its definitely worth the cash. GOOD FOR: tacos.

Tanto Mango was just fair. It served its purpose, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Nickel and dimed for standard toppings such as beans, rice and sour cream. Food was tasty and service were good, but: price of 2 drinks, 2 burritos and salad were $25, how in the world did that happen? Nickel and dimed for the toppings......

This place is pretty good and convenient if you live in Newton. The only drawback is that they are incredible stingy with their ingredients and the owner watches the people making the burritos like a hawk! I think that if you're paying extra for Guac etc...that you should get more than a teaspoon. Overall, not bad though.

I was thrilled when I heard that a taqueria was opening in Newton Centre. Although Newton Centre does have an abundance of restaurant options (not to mention the number of coffee options and test prep centers) - it lacks a variety of quick meal options. ( I do love Thai, Thai, Cafe Nicholas, Scrubway but I wanted something different!) I went to Tango Mango when it first opened and there were a few glitches - slow line and check out, out of tortillas and sour cream on the evening I visited! I went back last night and tried again - and I must say things are much improved! The line moved quickly and they had everything I wanted! I still prefer Anna's but now that I live in the Centre - I will frequent Tango Mango because of the convenience!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
