Their food is ok - and just ok. Thai food is all about big flavor but I ordered several items from the menu, most of which tasted bland to me, and I like strong flavor. Their pad Thai is pretty good.

A hole-in-the-wall located in Boston's Newton Center-- a classic Newton take-out joint. I ordered the yellow curry. I can't say it was the best Thai I've ever had, but it was pretty delish.

A preliminary review as I've only been here once. Went around 7:15 on a weeknight with one other person and we got the last table in the tiny place. Fortunately everyone coming in seemed to be there for takeout. The menu lists four levels of spicy, but the spicy dishes are all rated with the lowest two levels. Confusing (also hard to read, not sure who thought red type on brown was a good idea). Good selection on the menu though. Lots of "mix and match" where you choose what style dish you want and choose what you want in it. My companion and I had the fresh rolls (slightly rubbery but still good), and the coconut pancake (slightly greasy but still good). We both ordered basil fried rice and asked for it "hot" hoping we'd get into one of the two mysterious spiciness levels. We're on a thai basil fried rice kick and I'd have to say that was just about perfect. It was hot enough to make me feel like a fire-breathing dragon, but not so hot that I couldn't enjoy the flavor. Delicious. I wish they had something sweet to drink that was neither caffeinated nor carbonated... like a smoothie or something... no such luck. Ah well. All in all a pleasant meal. If it weren't for the battle with traffic and the battle with parking and the chance that we won't get a table, we'd be back often, but I suspect that the madhouse that is that neighborhood will be a deterrent.

They have fresh ingredients, great flavor and really have super value for the price.

This place is hands down the best. This is one of the only places where you can get Pad Thai three ways (regular, crispy or crystal noodle; ok crystal noodle is really Pad Woon Sen but whatever) and you can order it Bangkok-style (mad spicy). The place is small, the decor is mostly nonexistent and the minimal staff can be a bit, er, confused at times but bam! This place is amazing. I've eaten at almost every Thai restaurant in the greater Boston area and this place is my go-to. If you want delicious authentic Thai (read: not covered in syrupy American "peanut sauce" made of Jiff and soy sauce) then this place is the spot. If you want great atmosphere with all sorts of corny Buddha statues and saffron-robed monks serving you food while dispensing wise koans - keep moving.

Ordered about 73.00 worth of take out for a small gathering and was disappointed. Food was just okay. Marginal reallyl. The Pad Thai was gummy and all clumped up We ordered many dishes that had stars next to them (indicated they were most popular) but we found that the amount of food per dish was quite skimpy. . We anticipated having lots of leftovers, but since the food wasn't that great it didn't matter so much. Added insult: they charged my credit card twice!! I only caught the double charge because I went online to check my card balance, which was just luck that I did it so soon after ordering.

Love it. Everything has been super good. Tom Yum soup, curries, pad thai, pad see ew...The only thing I didn't love was the crispy pad thai, but thats just personal taste. Everything is priced reasonably, everything is fresh and the place is cute.

This spot sits in downtown Newton and is tiny, probably better for take out than sitting down since there are only two tables in the place. The menu is some very creative Thai selections and the reputation is one of the better in the area. The food is quite good and worth a try if you are searching like me for the best Thai around but in this area can't find it. I would recommend this place for the friendly service and the very large portions.

We order take out from here all the time..the Pad Thai is good, but order the "Beef Waterfall" - I'm not sure what's in it (lemongrass?) but its delicious! The decor leaves a lot to be desired, but the food is perfect and cheap!

We decided to give coconut a try on the first kinda cold night this fall. So a great little divey homey kind of place with really nice waitresses. We started with some tom yum to ward off the cold, nothing extra special, but delish. Then shrimp shu mai, just fantastic - so briny and so light they just melted in our mouths. Then we order Bangkok pad Thai, and asked for it extra spicy. "Oh you like it spicy?" Our waitress just grins at us... so we say "yah go for it" so we get a plate of yummy pad Thai, with this heat that just built and built in the back of my head until my scalp exploded in a fountain of sweat... yay! So hot and good. Only 4 stars for now 'cause I want to try a few more dishes. Oh and did I say the pad thai had yummy duck in it? Mmmmmmm duck

Quick update.. the coconut pancake - WOW! And another test of the Drunken Noodles prove them to be one of my favorite noodle dishes ever.

We went to Coconut Cafe last night for dinner and it was absolutely yummy! We were the only ones in the restaurant, everyone else seemed to be getting take out. We had some thai iced team (yummy!) fresh rolls (double yum! and extra dipping peanut sauce!) my boyfriend got pad thai Bangkok style and i got drunken noodles. The food came out SOO fast.. and so piping hot! Usually thai food is not spicy enough, but this one definitely was! It was great. Definitely recommend this place.. and it was a lot cheaper than most thai places in the area!

RUDEST SERVER I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS!! My bf and I USED TO love this place and get takeout here atleast once a week but not anymore. No matter how good some of their items may be none are worth the rudeness I experienced there. I was paying for my to go order and I asked for paper plates which she brought then I kindly said "oh sorry can you bring plastic silverware too" (even though it should be common sense to bring them together).. she makes a face, get up off her lazy chair again and then says "NEXT TIME ASK ME FOR THINGS ALL AT ONCE". That ticked me off because she said this infront of the customers and im sorry but when I go to a restaurant I should not worry about a list of things to ask a SERVER so I dont make her get up OFF HER CHAIR more than once. I used to waitress too so I know how annoying people can be but I would never open my mouth and ruin someones dining experience ever. She was young and maybe this is her family business but she just lost them two very very frequest customers thanks to her laziness. She should look up the definition for SERVER.

This place is awesome! It is one of the best takeout Thai food restaurants around. Super friendly staff, low prices and great tasting food. It is great for takeout and orders don't take more than 10min on average. My top favorites are: - drunken noodles - chicken noodles - Udon'n'Curry - seaweed salad My only regret is that I don't live closer to it!

Coconut Cafe was my first experience with Thai food, which is highly unfortunate for the subsequent Thai places that I've gone to. No one can match up to their Crispy Pad Thai [which also comes Bangkok style, which is a little bit spicier than the original and also includes fried tofu - mmm]. Also, they are the fastest restaurant that I've encountered to cook Crispy Pad Thai [and do it well] - I've come across other restaurants that cook their noodles for too long, or cook them too fast and they're not nearly as flavorful as Coconut Cafe's. They offer many of their dishes with an option of containing pork, beef, chicken, vegetables, tofu, or duck. Duck and beef are the most expensive, at about $0.75 to $1 more than vegetables or tofu. Their Chicken Satay is deliciously accented by their peanut sauce, however, Coconut Pancake remains as my favorite appetizer. Crunchy on the outside with bits of coconut scattered within the batter, the Coconut Pancake is more savory than sweet. Other important things about Coco Cafe: - the prices are awesomely inexpensive! - the place is small - the largest "table" they have is for 4 people. So if you're looking to feed a larger crowd, takeout is the way to go! - they also have two 2-person tables outside, for outdoor dining, if you fancy that. - the restaurant itself doesn't deliver, but I know that Dining In will deliver food from here. I would NOT suggest that, as they throw in extra "handling" fee, and then you have to tip the driver as well. You're better off saving all of that extra money and getting an extra serving of noodles when you get take-out! This place is truly a gem in Thai cuisine in Massachusetts!

Omg. I dream about Coconut Cafe grub. I wish they'd deliver...to Brookline... Food: Legit stuff. I say this because my sister, who has visited Thailand before, introduced me to this cafe and swear to its legitimacy. Its also FREAKIN plain DELICIOUS. I've had oily and cheaply made Thai food that will bring upon shame to Thailand's exquisite cuisine. The Pad Thai & Pad See Ew here are delicious and normally what I get. Yeah, I'm trying to expand my palate...but I just love those dishes too much. The portions are definitely pretty good and 1 plate is enough for 2 grown-up women, sometimes 1 if one of them is uber hungry....or greedy....or completely deprived of good Thai food.... Atmosphere: Its definitely a hole in the wall atmosphere, which I love (and who doesn't?). It feels like a home...that I wish was mine so I'd get free Thai food on a daily basis. But alas, I'm Korean...which I actually can't complain about (homemade marinaded Kalbi. Yes, be hellaaaa jealous of my momma's fine cookin'.). Service: Really great service and you never feel pressured to leave (unlike some Asian eateries where you're practically forced to leave via passive aggressive nudges). Although, during the couple of times I've been here its never been super packed so I guess there's no reason to pressure anyone...its generally a small place that I feel is a perfect secret haven for true Thai food enthusiasts. Etc: There's a JP licks nearby but dude, after a meal here you seriously won't have room for water, let alone air. Remember to breathe!

A great little restaurant. Food is great. They have maybe 10 seats so it's small. We had the pad thai, scallop massaman curry and Chicken Satay. All were excellent. Coconut soup was just OK on this visit but has been excellent before. Also had the coconut drink which I love. Price is very reasonable.

Went for a late lunch yesterday. Appetizers were good but not great, but my shrimp panang curry was excellent, some of the best I've had. The three star rating is for my girlfriend's food, or rather, lack of food. I ate my whole dish very slowly, expecting her dish to come. Nothing. Nada. Zip. A complete absence of fried rice. They just forgot about it. When the check came and I pointed out that we never got our dish, the waitress disappeared into the kitchen and there was a shouting match in Thai. I was reminded of Kitchen Nightmares (the Gordon Ramsay TV show)... I'm pretty forgiving, so I'd go back, but I'm sure she wouldn't.

I love this place! Haven't been disappointed yet, the food's always delicious, and portions are good. I usually can't help but get a cup of Tom Yum or Tom Ka, especially for only $3.50. I'm slowly trying everything on their menu, and really can't say a bad thing yet. So, I highly recommend this place, especially as a quick and relatively inexpensive Thai meal. Note - seating is very limited, so takeout is usually the best option.

I've always walked by this place on the way to Bill's Pizza but never stopped in. Today I finally went it- what drew me in was the crowd of about 6 people waiting outside for their take out orders. I figured, it must be worth the wait! The restaurant is small, but it's clean and well-lit. I ordered the chicken and aspagarus lunch special which came with brown rice. The order took about 10 minutes to be ready- I waited inside and saw a brisk take out business. It was about 1PM at this time and they still had lots of people coming in to get their orders. My lunch was fantastic- very crunchy, fresh and tasty. Huge portion for lunch, I thought. The dish came with asparagus, squash, 3 varieties of mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, squash, and cashews. It was served in a delicious brown sauce and the brown rice was a perfect complement. My lunch special came to $7.90, including tax. I loved it so much that I'm taking co-workers there tomorrow and I will order dishes that other Yelpers suggested. If parking on Comm Ave is tough, there is a big municipal lot across from National Jean Co.

We moved from Somerville to Watertown and I've been looking for a replacement for Lemon Thai on Highland Ave ever since. I ordered the Pad Kee Mow from Coconut Cafe, with udon noodles instead of the wide noodles. It was very good - a good amount of veggies and the sauce was good. I would definitely order from here again. And they deliver.

Coconut cafe, a restaurant after mine own heart... Simple, delicious thai food. I could make a day out of eating the pad see ew; that is to say, portions are great. Add some Coconut soup, and summer rolls and it's a wrap for me. They are extremely speedy, whether you eat there or take out. When the check comes, it's one more thing to smile about.

So yummy, so cute! I went for lunch with my cousin and we both thoroughly enjoyed our lunches as well as the prompt and friendly service. I'm trying to convince my husband to go, but he hates coconut so he's being stubborn. Yes, I already told him that that's just the NAME of the restaurant, not their staple food.... I'll keep working on him. Until then, I will relish in my fond memories of the chicken pad thai and Vietnamese iced tea. Yummy!

our Fav Thai Thai Kitchen was closed Sunday night, so I ran over to Coconut Cafe to place an order. Their drunken noodles and Pad See-You were fantastic. The fresh rolls as well. I ate fast in case someone walked into my living room and tried to steal it away from me. I honestly can't recall the last time i ate that much, that quickly. I wanted to eat more but it was all gone. Can't wait for next time !

Great quality and a large selection. I had the peanut chicken stir-fy. Chicken and vegtables were steamed and cooked well. Sauce came on the side which I thought was a little odd, but the flavor more than made up for it, plus it let me dunk my vegtables into the amazing sauce that my boyfriend had left over from his massaman curry. So good. I think I'll get that next time. No complaints other than the fact that the servings were a little skimpy (or maybe we were just really really hungry). Will certainly try it again.

O.M.G. I am completely obsessed with this place -- i swear they put crack in the food, it's that addictive. My boyfriend and I eat here at least once a week, often twice or three times. Yes, it's pretty small, but I've never had to wait all that long, never longer than about 15 minutes. In nice weather they have tables outside, which is always a plus. The servers are very nice and it's always really quick. My faves (in no particular order) are: 1. drunken noodles -- SOOO good, spicy with lots of veggies 2. tom kah soup -- perfect amount of coconut milk, still light but very flavorful 3. penang curry -- tangy, spicy, deliciousness 4. veggie spring rolls -- not too greasy, crispy 5. basic salad -- it's not as great of a deal if you get it without the chicken and egg (the bf is vegan) but the peanut sauce is so yummy and for $7 you get a lot of veggies. 6. sweet basil stirfry -- lots of good veggies, spicy, just the right amount of sauciness. Honestly, I could go on and on. The prices are great, they have brown rice which I love, and it's all around delicious. I just wish they delivered!

I live minutes away, so I have always been hopeful for this cute hole-in-the-wall spot wedged into the busy mishmosh of Beacon Street. Yet tonight's takeout--after long absence, as we've been favoring other, better places--was a disappointment. For my sick kid I ventured out in the rain on a Friday evening to procure one lone order of shrimp pad thai. Should be simple, right? When I got there, the proprieters seemed confused and stressed. I was clearly in their way. They made me wait for an order that had been sitting there next to the cashier for fifteen or twenty minutes. When I asked if I could pay by check, they didn't just say no, but gave me the hairy eyeball asking if I didn't have a credit card? When I dug out the cash ($10.65 which seemed a lot for what it was), by accident I was short one quarter (middle aged eyesight, not ill will) and they made a big deal out of it as if I were trying to cheat them. I apologized, added the missing quarter, and asked for a receipt, which sent the cashier into another minor freakout, and she seemed peeved enough to make me wait for that, too, while she did a bunch of other paperwork on the counter. It took her a good while to rifle through a stack of yellow papers to find my receipt as though they had really been put out. When I got home, the pad thai was cold and rubbery, and my daughter and I were nonplussed. To top it off, no napkin, chopsticks or a fortune cookie. Hoping my takeout fortunes take an upturn next time...Jamjuli, Apgujung, and Sushi Man are leagues ahead, with courteous, caring staff and better food.

I heard a lot of good things about coconut cafe and while i didn't think it was bad, i have definitely had better. Their chicken saute was really good and their crispy pad Thai was good. The tom yum was okay, I've had better at many restaurants. Overall I didn't think it was THAT good and i thought for being kind of a family own small place it was pretty pricey. Maybe because it's the only one in newton? I'm from Brookline, where there are a few Thai places around. It reminds me of rod dee, a Thai place in Brookline, but i find rod dee to be much better and cheaper. *was there a bathroom there? I don't think they had a bathroom.

Coconut cafe is a great thai place, everything is absolutely delicious and for a good price. It's a great place to have lunch. I go there for many years with my family and friends. The only thing is if you order the take out, you might have to wait for a while.

Yummy, delicious, consistent. Love the folks here. So far this is our favorite Thai place. It's very inexpensive but the food is top-notch. Great green papaya salad. I've never eaten anything I didn't like here.

having recently moved here from California, i've been on the hunt for decent thai food in the area. so i was really excited to try out coconut cafe. yes its a small hole in the wall in newton centre, but thats not the issue. the issue is that the food was subpar. while the menu was extensive, my pad see ew had and awful smell that make it impossible to eat. on top of that their "specials" costs twice as much as their normal dishes but the fill the plate with salad rather than the actual special. sadly, i wont be returning to this establishment and my hunt for good thai food in newton continues.

This place is a little hole in the wall, but it's got the best Thai take-out around. There are a few tables, and in the summer they put 2 outside, but i've never sat down to eat. The basil rolls come with a yummy peanut dipping sauce that i wish i had in a bottle. so good! and super inexpensive!

Newton Center, this is your Thai destination. Exactly what you want, reliably tasty and reasonably priced Thai - good sauces, tasty noodles and rolls, hot and ample portions, no complaints on ingredients, service is friendly but you might just want to carton this up and devour at home.

I love this place. It is a tiny restaurant with maybe enough seating for 15 people. They don't deliver :( but the take out is very quick and reliable. I usually order the massaman curry with tofu which is outstanding. Some places add too much coconut milk to the curry. They put in the right amount. I have also visited the Wellesley location which looks identical and also has great food.

I went with my boyfriend for dinner tonight. The waiters were super nice. We had a vegetable soup that was very good and had lots of salmon in it! My entree (tamarind with tofu) was good but nothing special. My boyfriend had pad thai with beef which he didn't quite like. The beef quality wasn't that good. Overall just ok.

The idea of driving into the thick of Newton and carrying on among plasticky suburbanites who lunch did not appeal to me at all. My coworker M somehow convinced me to go grab lunch here. All was well until we spotted a woman driving the same car as his (a blue mini) on the other side of the road. We were trying to park, she was stuck in traffic. I desperately attempted to look everywhere else but whenever I snuck a quick glance, she ferociously tried to catch my eyes. I was too slow the third time and this allowed her time to smile and wave. I sunk into my seat and groaned. But M waved back, a bit too cheery for my liking. Five seconds later, she waved again and flashed her kool-aid smile. M explained later that this is a normal exchange between mini drivers on the road but at that point, I was asking myself, what the hell is wrong with these people? Is there something in the water of the suburbs that makes its inhabitants turn normal everyday living into a full blown cheese fest? I wanted to get out of there quick. Oh yeah, food: Shrimp drunken noodles-- very good, but the sauce was a bit watered down (Americanized) for my taste. I was quite impressed by the varied and copious amounts of veggies in the dish. Usually, it's just the typical carrots, broccoli, onions, mushrooms, basil, and peppers. Coconut took it up a notch with green beans, cauliflower, and red cabbage(!). Kratiam Prik Thai Stir-Fry- the combination of savory from the garlicky sauce and the sweetness from the pineapples was pretty damn good. All in all, I would get food here again--- although next time I'll drive my Honda civic.

Yum yum yum. This little little restaurant in Newton Center is a hidden gem. You wouldn't think to stop in based on the store front, but please do. If one of the four tables is available, you can eat in, otherwise get take out, you won't regret it. I love the pad thai, the spring rolls and curries are great, too.

Wow, all perfect ratings? I almost think its all family members rating this place. I am not family but I'd give them 4 stars. They have good quality thai food. The location is great for this little place, with plenty of parking. Food always tasted great...only problem was the price. Its a little pricey for a almost hole in the wall like place. And for dinner you have to add a dollar or two to the prices. The restaurant itself is small and not that fancy. You definitely don't go here on a first date to impress anyone. If you just want good thai food...then you've found the right spot.

this place is amazing. i've been going there for years. you can get so much amazing food and it's not expensive. the staff is quick, friendly, and lovely. my favorites include pad thai, steamed dumplings, chicken thai rolls, yellow curry, and the tom yum noodle soup. great for a casual dinner with your boyfriend or best friend on a weeknight!

It should be mentioned that this is the first time i've visited Coconut Cafe. I went because it was one of the only Thai places I hadn't yet been to in the area and it had decent ratings. Sadly I was pretty underwhelmed and can't recommend it. The ambiance was dull, small and very casual screaming - lunch takeout only! Also, they are slightly overpriced, with exception of noodle/rice dishes. Example: Soup $3.75, Thai Tea $2.75 The soup and dishes (even iced tea) my group ordered all rang a little off-the-desired for flavor & texture to each of us. The waitstaff were very friendly but the timing was all off, the entree arriving on top of the appetizer, the bill arriving on top of the entree, no discussion of dessert - though they do check in to see how you are doing, better pacing would make a better dining experience. Regardless, I just didn't think the food was good. If this is the only place around, its tolerable. For much less money and much better food, go to Tree Top in Waltham.

Perhaps the most underrated thai food. i have yet to even find crystal noodle pad thai anywhere else- and it is damn good! you can chose what meat (or tofu) you want. same goes for the curries (i recommend yellow curry). waitstaff used to be nicer - i think the nice ones moved to their newest restaurant called coconut thai cafe (sneaky sneaky) in wellesley - equally good food - that one is on rt 16 in wellesley center. also good are the coconut pancakes (appetizer). i wish i had more dishes i could comment on, but i basically eat the same ones everytime. if it aint broke...! oh how i miss my coconut reunions with my high school friends...

Great Thai place - the food is delicious and they prepare it quickly. The portions aren't as large as I'd expect from a typical Thai place, but it's good so it's still worth it. Careful ordering very spicy meals- they aren't joking!

    (4)
  • Jeffrey C.

Disappointed! The Pad Thai was soggy and the curry only looked like a curry dish without any of the flavors. Seriously I have had better Thai food from a food truck. If you're looking for flavorful, authentic Thai food, go elsewhere.

We passed this tiny Thai restaurant on our scenic drive through Newton; when we saw the solid four star rating on Yelp we turned around and decided to stop. I embarrassingly slipped in the snow running through a crosswalk (should have been video taped and used as a before and after shot in a documentary depicting the descent into obesity) toward this place because I was so excited, and after much adieu, my boyfriend, my snowy wet boots, and I were seated inside Coconut Cafe. Kinda wish I had taken the slip in the snow as a sign and built a snowman instead of dining here. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. It was standard Thai food. We ordered an order of Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, and Salmon Choo Chee. The spring rolls were as bland as veggie spring rolls usually are, though I did like the dipping sauce with which they were served. The Pad Thai was lacking flavor, though the shrimp in the dish were extraordinarily fresh. The Salmon Choo Chee tasted a great deal like Massaman Curry-not sure if that was the intention. The fish was really fresh, but it had too much char to be palatable in the dish which it was served. I have to disagree with other Yelpers about the service, as the night we went, the two employees were incredibly friendly. They engaged us in conversation and offered tips to help us order the dishes that best matched our described tastes. I felt the service totally delivered. Though Coconut Cafe was a decent place for a quick bite, I wouldn't venture out of my way to return.

The food was just ok, but if you're looking for quantity, you will definitely come away unhappy here. We got the take-out and the serving sizes were skimpy. Spent $100 and fed 4 with nothing left over, even the rice, which is dirt cheap, was skimped on. The food was way too spicy and when I called in my order, the woman on the phone was plain rude. Won't go here again.

    (2)
  • Wonder W.

The food is pretty good BUT I have a gripe about the service. If you can't understand what I'm trying to order on the phone, please don't scream "WHAT???" over the top of me every. Single. time. That's just plain rude.

  • Eric H.

Food was great, I got the pad see-you and I would highly recommend it. My girlfriend got the drunken noodles which were also pretty good, but I wouldn't order them myself. The fried tofu was also pretty good, and even though I didn't try the pad thai or crab Rangoon (because I hate seafood) everyone else seemed to like them. It was a small place as well with minimal seating, but very busy with people coming in and out for take-out. I would definitely go to this place again.

  • Marina K.

Friggin' love this place. It's unbelievably tiny (like, 3 or 4 tables) but everything is DE-licious and the service is always prompt and kind. It's one of my favorite places to catch up with friends when I'm back in Boston - I know I can always count on a great meal in a casual, easygoing environment and never feel rushed. Don't be fooled by the plain-looking exterior - Coconut really is a neighborhood gem. However, I would avoid going to the bathroom here if you can manage. It's....sketchy, to put it kindly.

4 stars for the food, 2 for the service. Here is why: Coconut Cafe is one of my favorite spots in the Newton-Brighton area for Thai food, and I have been coming here for over ten years now. Since I graduated two years ago and moved back to the area, I have sometimes averaged weekly takeout dinner here during busy times at work. I consider myself a regular, and the food quality always keeps me coming back. I am currently boycotting Coconut Cafe because my last experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I consider myself someone who respects and has great interest in other cultures and ethnic food, but one time I called and when I asked for the sweat & sour sauce that comes with the spring rolls, they bitterly responded, " this isn't a Chinese food restaurant." I know that... but the sauce is well, sweet.. and sour. They also didn't tell me what alternative name to use. I was embarrassed until I went to Amarin Cafe, another Thai food restaurant in Newton and they called it sweet and sour sauce. Last week, I ordered pad thai and the tom yum soup for pick up. I asked them for the total and they said 19 dollars. Felt a bit high. When I got to the restaurant to pick up my dinner, I asked for the sweet sauce that comes with the spring rolls. She brought a different sauce than the one I was thinking of. So I kindly say, "No, the other one, please." The woman brought me A-NOTHER one, so now I had two sauces, neither of which I wanted. I apologized for the confusion, and told her I wanted the other sauce, not another. Now, she was pissed off. After swiping my card, she condescendingly looked me in the face and dictated as if I was deaf, "do you want the receipt?" The couple behind me stood up for me and told the woman, "Hey, maybe you are having a bad day, but that's no way to treat your customers." I left and unpacked my dinner at home, only to find that they had given me TWO tom yum soups. No wonder the cost was so high... The moral of the story is that sometimes miscommunication happens. I don't speak every language and I can't expect everyone to understand me perfectly when I speak mine. But, remain respectful and patient, and then I won't be bitter and write an angry review when you overcharge me.

Ho Lee S@#t this place is amazing. One of the best little restaurants I have ever been to anywhere, The green curry will make a nymphomaniac's toes curl.. it will knock your socks off... Jesus H Christ this place is so good.

Holy bamboo shoots! Tried for take-out. Excited to try thai that is so nearby but ended up disappointed. Ordered Sweet Basil Stir-Fry with chicken. Hard to find anything in it other than bamboo shoots. Certainly lacking in basil or any distinctive flavor. Stir-fry with cashews was even more bland. Pad-thai was average. Maybe it is just that we ordered the wrong dishes, but those seem like pretty standard basics they should be able to get down well.

First let me say, coconut cafe is the best Thai food I have tasted in all over USA. I now live in Chicago and this is the only restaurant I miss the most. Been a regular customer from 99 to 03 and visited them few times since then, the quality I first tasted haven't been changed a bit. Food and Menu is authentic and I have to ask the same dish as special orders in other places. If you are in town try it out here.

My hometown. My home thai food joint. God do i miss it! I have never in my entire tenure of frequenting Coconut Cafe had a negative dish or experience here, sans being sad that there was no room for us to sit down upon coming in to the restaurant ravenous and ready to scarf down shumai and pad thai, pad see ew and hot and sour chicken. The menu is extensive and the wait quick. We've been coming here for years, and during my last few years living at home ended up ordering from coconut cafe every sunday evening. Some light suggestions: -shumai -pad see ew -hot sweet and sour chicken -pad thai -moo shoo -hot chicken and broccoli. Coconut Cafe, while small, is the definition of a gem! In fact, it's because of this restaurant that I am such a nit pick now when it comes to thai food! Go! You wont be sorry!

This review is based on the Penang Curry with Chicken and my friend's Straw Mushrooms and Baby Corn with Chicken... only cause it was our first time there and that's all we tried. The Penang Curry was SO delicious--just a little bit sweet and a little bit spicy (I actually could have used a smidgen more spice,) the chicken was moist and tender and the flavor combo...man, do I love Thai food. I actually think that it was far superior to any other curry I've tried around town. Admittedly though, I've only tried the red curry dishes at other places, so I can't say whether the Penang Curry just rocked my world or if it's representative of the food at Coconut Cafe in general. Either way, I was more than satisfied. Oh, and my friend's dish was pretty tasty too, but I wasn't trying to be greedy for once and I only got a bite, so I can't judge with quite as much fervor as I did the Penang. The prices were also comparable to other Thai restaurants I've been to and the portions were a good size. Sure the place is very small-- I think it only seats 12-15 people or something, but it has take out and on a Sunday night at 7pm, we didn't have to wait at all. The service was also very good and they were totally on top of filling my water glass more than a few times. The point is, Coconut Cafe, you have not seen the last of me. I will be back. Soon. I am looking forward to giving you 5 stars, but I can't really justify it if I've only tried two things on the menu. So obviously I am going to be forced to return...Red Curry, Pad Thai, Mango with Sticky Rice, Tum Yum Goong--looks like I've got a lot of (delicious) work ahead of me....

I love this place! They are so friendly, affordable, and most importantly, their food is DELICIOUS. My personal favorites are: Pad Thai, Pad See Yew, and the Indonesian Fried Rice. Definitely give this place a try if you're a Thai lover!

What a great find in Newton Centre. This place would be easy to walk right past and never even notice. Our spring rolls were fresh. My pad thai was sweet and savory all at once. My dates duck fried rice was chock full of veggies and duck. We were both a part of the clean plate club at this place!

So the place was cute, very small but cute. When I went the staff was super friendly and on top of the service. When I sat down to wait for my friend they asked if I wanted anything. So I asked to go to the bathroom. I wasn't shocked or bothered, rather, I just got a good laugh since it reminded me of being back in Peru and using the bathroom there. To get to the bathroom you basically have to go through the kitchen and go downstairs and cross two (or three?) "sections" of the basement until you see a door with a light switch on the outside. Now some people who reviewed the restaurant weren't comfortable with that. I thought it was fine and they were nice for letting guests use it (especially since most places would just tell you "No, we don't have bathrooms here" which is a killer!). Oh, also the actually bathroom was very clean, so that was a plus. Now, back to the food: I ordered the spring rolls. For the price, I felt like I got my money's worth! Six came out! Fresh and pretty good, not the best that I had ever had, but good. I also ordered some sort of eggplant chicken meal (completely forgot the name) that was listed as a special on the back and it was good. Again, not the BEST thai place I had ever been to, but good. For Newton, I understand the hype and would recommend this place for friends. Although the space for dining is VERY small, they do have outdoor seating and will not forget about you!

I ate, last evening, at The Coconut Cafe. It has been a couple years since last eating there and remember the food to be very good. I was truly disappointed at the quality of the meal. I ordered Tod Mun (a fish cake that is generally delicious) and a spicy beef salad traditionally served over crisp lettuce. This dish was as far from tradition as one small plate of tough, seared beef could travel. I will not be going back!

We got take-out here for dinner. Service was friendly and the food was ready and waiting when we got there. I like that they have brown rice. The food was no longer hot by the time we ate it so it is kinda hard for me to comment on it.

Every time I'm up in Newton Center this restaurant is a must for me. Whether I head in to grab a quick tasty drink or to grab some lunch. I'm totally in love with the Thai Iced Tea. They make it the way I love it, filled to the top with Thai tea and just a splash of half and half. Perfect every time. The spring rolls and pad Thai are amazing as well! Could not ask for a better Thai restaurant!

I've eaten here often when I've wanted a quick meal, since I work nearby. It's fast, cheap, and easy to get to. But then something happened... The other day, I was having a meeting over lunch with a work associate there. I'm chomping down on my Pad See Eew, when suddenly I taste something that doesn't seem quite right. I pulled out of my mouth a piece of steel wool! I was a couple bites from being done, but whoah... I'm not one to usually complain, but that's dangerous. The waitstaff was very apologetic, and she comped my meal. In my mind, that was absolutely the right thing to do. Perhaps I'll go back again. This is the sort of thing that food establishments want to steer clear of having happen!

I've been meaning to try this place for a while as I pass it often on my way home from work. I was having a major craving for some yummy Thai and so I decided to stop and grab some stuff for dinner (and for my lunch the next day). It's a small joint, and I got there just as the dinner rush was starting. the waitstaff was friendly and accommodating, the food came out super quickly, and I didn't have to wait long for my check. I ordered the Tom Kah soup, Tofu Pad Thai and Chicken Pad Kee Mow (Drunken Noodles). The Pad Thai was really flavorful, but the Pad Kee Mow was by far the outstanding dish of the two noodle dishes. It was spicy and loaded with veggies. So good! And the serving was so huge that I got 3 (good size) servings out of it. The soup. Ah the soup. It should be a coconut soup with lemongrass, no? It was a little too thick and the sour element tasted like lemon juice. Not good. That was the ONLY disappointing thing about my experience. I will definitely be back.

We tried take out from Coconut Cafe for the 1st time and it was excellent. Here's what we ordered: Chicken Pad Thai - Excellent. This was one of the better/best Pad Thai's I've had and I will order it again Beef Drunken Noodles - Very good, but too spicy for me. The thick noodles and veggies were delicious, but it's spicy. Rama Lamsong - My wife loved this and will order it again. Great vegan/vegetarian option. Thai Fried Rice - Very good. One thing to note, the portions for the Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles were large. One order can feed two people.

Small place with some outside seating. Ate lunch here. The service was fine but the food was a bit mediocre. The vegetable rolls were on the small side and the chicken curry had some vegetables that were a bit on the raw side. I wouldn't say don't go here but I wouldn't recommend it over other Thai restaurants.

coconut cafe offers pretty standard thai food and it is consistently served hot, fresh, and very good. i've been really happy with the appetizers, the fresh rolls, spring rolls, crab rangoon, and chicken wings are all up to par. i do wish they used the standard won ton shape for the crab rangoon, but they make up for the weird crescent shape with lots of crab flavor and definitely has the right amount of cream cheese - no overload. a lot of thai places are lacking flavor or "mix-ins" in their thai fried rice, but coconut cafe stocks the rice with plenty of flavor - onions, scallions, chicken, peas, egg, and topped with slices of tomato and cucumber. good for the price, and i'll definitely be going often.

I have never, ever, ever had a bad dish here, which is incredible given the large variety of foods they serve and how often I've gone. Service is fast and friendly. Portions are generous and so very, very tasty (and cheap for Newton eats!). Drinks are delicious. Seating's limited, but people leave pretty quickly if you want to wait for it. The people are so accommodating too, and were more than happy to put tables and rearrange the chairs to seat groups when the seating allows for it. I've never had problems with bumping chairs, and there's room to move without too much fuss.

I think this is a staple of thai food in Newton. I recently tried their online system, and it worked fantastically. So much better than trying to understand them over the phone. My standard go to dish is Tofu Pad See You, and it is amazing. I love it. More recently I have tried their tofu green curry. This is a bit more iffy in my mind. The first time it was nice, and they gave me a lot of the green curry. The only complaint at that time was that there was no eggplant! The description blatantly says there is eggplant in there, but there was no eggplant in my dish. The next time I ordered from there, they gave me literally half the amount as before! Needless to say I was extremely upset, but I was on a time constraint (and it was takeout). The tofu was NOT fresh at all. There was still also no eggplant! I love eggplant so this was very annoying. Overall I think most of the food I have gotten from here was good. I'll probably still give their green curry another try, but I'll make sure to ask them about eggplant and the amount (pretty much make my complaints heard and see if anything changes). This place is still pretty good, and I am typically a satisfied customer. If you're willing to drive, Rod Dee is probably still better (both quality and price). So for now, I'm going to give this place a 4 star review. If next time they don't improve, I may have to drop it down to three.

I've been here twice, once for take out and once for dine in, and after having eaten a little of everyone's dish and tried two appetizers, I can safely say this place is above average. nah, just kidding, you can tell when you walk in the door. This place just feels right, like you're going to get your delicious Thai on, from the smell and the happy noshing faces of the other people in there. Side Note, there are maybe six very small tables in the place, so its not ideal for a gathering. We had five in our party and felt like we were crowding the other tables. But every dish we ordered came out wonderfully, the service was friendly and accommodating, the background music was a female jazz vocalist covering some random boy band and techno songs, and it kept the whole party giggling and nomming the whole enjoyable time.

This is a tiny but great place. One of our favorite restaurants in Newton. The space is tiny, but we mostly succeeded in getting one of the very few tables and always dined in. The ambiance is like a small family restaurant that is mostly geared to take out. Cute, but nothing extraordinary. The food is very tasty. My favorite is the Crispy duck, but the Tom Kha soup, the Pad Thai, and really everything else that we have eaten there has been very good. The service is friendly, but a bit slow, and this place definitely seems more geared to take out.

Live a mile away from here and this place is usually where my family orders delivery from. Our regular consists of the seafood salad, pad thai, and one of the curries (they are all good!). We love the salad, we have never seen it anywhere else. Big chunks of salmon, scallops, and calamari, mixed with a regular spring mix drizzled with a yummy vinegar sauce. The pad thai is a bit on the sweet sauce but is easily balanced out with some spice. They also have really good tom kha soup and the service here is really nice! Seriously some of the sweetest people, and they know my order, so it's one of those situations where I go in, take a seat, give the sweet lady a smile, and she already knows what I want. Good prices, yummy food, great people!

I love thai food and this place is very average. I've had the following dishes. Roti- deep fried triangles- kind of like scallion pancakes but more dry. The sauce only comes with one piece of beef :( Tod Man (shrimp cake)- Beware. This is not what it seems. The cakes are soft and spongy. Not deep fried. Super oily and they did NOT taste good. They were inedible. Never again. Beef Satay- good! Peanut sauce is yummy Pad thai- taste was okay but the noodles were way too squishy- overcooked Red Curry- Average. Not great, not terrible. Decent amount of meat/veggies. Chilli and Garlic Stir fry- this is good, would get it again Kai Sub Kraplao- excellent, ground chicken and peppers with holy basil. Good flavor. I've only been here out of convenience when I'm in Newton. I would prefer Cambridge Thai any day! Service was good and when I've picked up food they it's been ready in less than 8 minutes which is pretty crazy.

Nested at the edge of Newton Center is Coconut Cafe, a small but mighty Thai restaurant which serves up some delicious and affordable Thai fare. The place doesn't seat too many people, probably about fifteen but they do seem to be doing a lot of takeout business. We went there over the weekend to get some lunch and were not disappointed. Appetizers will run you between $5.25 and $7.75 and range from edamame to spring rolls and even coconut pancakes which I had never seen before but sound awesome. We stuck with some veggie rolls ($5.75) and they were great. Crisp, fresh and the sauce worked very well. Then came the entrees, including the Pineapple and Peppers Stir-fry I ordered and my wife's Panang Curry. While I can't recall the price on those, they were both affordable and the portion was just right. Actually now that I think about it, the lunch menu is cheaper than the dinner one there and we ended up eating for about $26 which was great value, especially considering the quality. The place was clean, the staff friendly and the whole ordeal took about 40 minutes. I'm delighted to see this place do well and look forward to returning in the future, whether it be at this location or their Wellesley one.

I really don't understand all the good reviews of the place, or frankly, why it's still open while Thai Thai closed. I've been here about a handful of times, each time ordering something else, and without fail, every time I've eaten here I've ended up sick to my stomach. And I eat Thai food a lot, so it's definitely something about this place. The kicker is that their food isn't even close to worth getting sick over - it's bland and completely unremarkable. Even in Newton, there are much better Thai places around.

I tried this place two years ago and remember getting takeout. When I got home, I realized the rice smelled like fart and it was terrible. I vowed never to come back. Fast forward two years later, we just ordered delivery. It took much longer than the estimated time, so minus stars on that. The fried chicken wings were amazing though: very crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside with great flavor. They were also big wings, not cheap fatty small ones. The Pad See Yew though was disappointing. It tasted like something an amateur made for the first time. The beef tasted old and overcooked, and the noodles were dry. Although the wings were good, the entree sucked. I won't be ordering from here again.

Been a fan of Coconut Cafe for a long time. I love the yellow chicken curry, the drunken noodles and pad thai. They're always friendly and quick to get the food ready. It's a small place, but great to eat in or we usually do take out.

I've had- Drunken Noodles: Really good, and quite spicy. Perhaps the best I've had in the area. Tom Yum: Fine, but could be better. Bangkok Fresh Rolls: Serviceable. I like peanut sauce anywhere. Scallion Pancake: Good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Once got two orders of this because all of the following seemed less appealing- Massaman Curry: I keep trying to like curries with coconut, and so far the only success I've had is with the blackboard menu at Thai North. Not here. Couldn't really taste much more than the sweetness and the coconut. some of their stir fries: Again, sweetness overpowered all other flavors. Crispy Pad Thai Noodles Bangkok Style: still sweet, but flavorful enough beyond that. I would like to try their "Special Thai Dishes" at some point, but the rest of the menu is not too worthwhile.

I am fan of the coconut mango curry. It is delicious, plain and simple. My husband and son have go-to dishes as well-- pad thai and pad see ew. We mostly get take out although we ate in once and in both cases the staff are always very friendly. I only wish that it were easier to find parking out front in order to pick up if you are in a hurry (which I usually am). The spaces in front are usually full as there are two other popular restaurants on that block. Parking across the street is also hard to come by, and crossing the street can be dicey.

The food was good, definitely fresh. My girlfriend wasn't sure what tamarind tasted like and asked the waitress. After explaining she still was a bit hesitant. The waitress actually said to her, "it's in the dictionary, you can look it up." I was shocked to say the least. The ONLY reason I do not give them 1 star is because the food was pretty good.

Best Thai food in Newton. The Pad See You sets the standard for me -- never had it better anywhere else. So tasty! I used to get it with beef but now I get it with tofu; both are delicious. A unique dish at Coconut Cafe is the Prik King Country Style curry. It's different from most Thai curries because it doesn't have coconut milk. A bit spicy, totally tasty. And of course the Pad Thai is awesome if you want to keep it simple. I recently tried the Bangkok Style Black Bean sauce stir fry for the first time -- can't believe I'd never tried it before after going to Coconut for so many years.

No longer a patron. We use to come here for decent Thai food because of proximity. Based on several occasions, the service is an okay to terrible experience for mediocre Thai food. During our last experience, the person that was taking our order was very rude. Then turned around and had the biggest smile while servicing the next table. So it was obvious to us that the person was capable of being nice but choose not to be to us.

My cousin goes to BC and asked to come here when we offered to treat for dinner. Not a place to go for ambiance as it is tiny and does mostly takeout. However the food was very good. We ordered yellow curry chicken, red curry shrimp and a special with Udon noodles. All were delicious and the prices were very reasonable.

Good place for Tuesday night takeout...and you can order online through the website and guess what...it works! Friendly folks run the joint. Good for the suburbs; food is probably a little blander by design to appeal to the Newton crowd daring enough to order "Oriental food". HA! Stick with the pad thai. Rices are meh. You can do much worse in the area (Jumbo Seafood), and do much better (Bernards)

Absolutely terrible. Soggy thai rolls that were grossly overpriced and my shrimp were bad!!. I called for a refund (delivery) and received a measly 15% off, which didn't even cover the appetizer. Please don't waste your time/money. There have to better places in Newton!

Man oh man, is this place a treat. Let me talk about the duck for a second. Hold on. Just listen. No, stop talking, this is serious. Get the duck. Don't talk back to me, just do it. I've tried several entrees on the menu, though my personal favorite is the Crispy Pad Thai Noodle (Bangkok Style) - With DUCK. I've had this particular dish enough times that I've asked for it with varying degrees of spiciness, opting for their second-highest degree to create the best balance of heat and flavor. Though I'm a tried and true spicemonger, and will tell you to get the spiciest things on the menu, there are plenty of delicious options here that are not nearly as spicy, for grandma and her delicate palette.

This restaurant did not disappoint! My first time, I did take out, kept it simple, Curry dish and Pad Thai - The flavors were so refreshing, a perfect mix of spice and very high quality ingredients! They pack their dishes with meat and veggies. The restaurant isn't full of ambiance - you come for the food! I live very close to this restaurant and plan to make it my new local THAI stop! THANKS!

Setup like a typical American Chinese take-out place, with scarce table seating and primarily take out customers. Located in Newton Centre. PROS: Very friendly service. Food was excellent. We tried a few dishes, including the staple Pad Thai. Meat was plentiful. I had the shrimp Pad Thai which included 9-10 medium sized shrimp. Normally you're lucky to get 4-5. Prices are reasonable. Food was fresh and came out rather quickly. Flavors were really great. Yumm. CONS: The place is small, and you can feel like you're right on top of other tables. Also, if there are many people getting take-out, they don't have a lot of area to wait. I find it obnoxious when you're trying to enjoy dinner and there are other patrons crammed, standing around you. Fortunately, the place wasn't so busy on our visit. OVERALL: One of the better Thai places in Newton. It's stiff competition in Newton. I've been to other spots that were quite tasty. Overall, I'm impressed.

Having eaten there a couple of times, or had take out, we considered that the food was fairly reliable, nothing really outstanding but nothing really bad either. However, the other night we decided to order and have it delivered. There is a delivery fee for the service. We live about 1/2 mile from the restaurant. The food finally arrived, taking longer than we were told. My daughter handed the driver several single dollar bills as a tip. A few minutes after the driver left and we were sitting down to eat the luke warm food my phone rings. I did not pick up. Then it rang again. I did not pick up. When it rang for the third time I answered the call. It took me several moments to understand that i was being questioned about the delivery person. Then I realized it was the delivery person grilling me about his service and what was wrong with it that I should give him such a little tip. When I said that there was a delivery fee as well he told me that was for gas. I told him that no one pays for my gas to go to work. He did not listen to me but kept on harassing me about the tip which he considered an insult. I told him he drove less than 1/2 a mile, walked a few steps to the door and handed the bag to my daughter. Its not like he served me, I told him. The delivery person was relentless and went on and on; telling me he did a good job and deserved a good tip and that this was an insult. I realized he was interfering with my dinner and that I was becoming quite upset that he was questioning me and asking why I did not give him more of a tip. I ended the phone call. My dinner was not pleasant, I was in shock that someone had the nerve to do this, and insulted that my character was being ridiculed. I called and spoke to an assistance who relayed the story to the manager who eventually called back several days later. He made some excuse and said he would speak to him. Too little, too late. I will never order from them again. If my business is not respected and I am verbally abused by a driver, then this must represent the attitude of the whole establishment.

was deciding between two places in newton corner. coconut cafe has an online ordering system, in which i can select my food w/o a chance for miscommunication, and dictate my pick up time instead of waiting for food to be cooked on premise. even though their website design was a bit cheesy, and my online order coupon expired (making me not liking that system very much, but that's not the restaurant's fault), the convenience won me over. order & pick up was painless. food was ready at the time prescribed. first time i had to sign for my food, haha. a bit odd, but alright. only reason the rating didn't get to a 4-star is due to the general spiciness of the food. i get it, it's Thai, and it's usually spicy. but among the four levels of spiciness we could choose from, i am already choosing the least spicy option. yet, the drunken noodle was sooo spicy that my stomach was beginning to cramp -- which normal "little spicy" food won't cause to happen. furthermore, it is the kind of spiciness that lingers in the tongue, making further bites not very enjoyable, if even possible. at this rate, i really can't fathom what their level 4 "hot & spicy" tastes like. don't even mention that my drunken noodle had no caramelizayion at all, unlike that in Timothy L's picture. the indonesian fried rice was good: fried chicken was flavorful & crispy (even after a 30-minute trip home), flavor of the rice was there, fried egg was good. rice was soft but not mushy. the fresh rolls appetizer came in a set of 3... in Saran wrap -- maybe to keep them from sticking to each other? in other Vietnamese places i've done take out, the rolls do just fine w/o the wrap. anyways, the rolls and sauces were just like any other; but them being warm (more than transient heat from other dishes in the bag) was a little unexpected. can imagine it be a good lunch place for casual dining (they have about 5-7 small tables), but expect decors to be a grade above any average take-out place. and the price too.

Mediocre Thai Place. Advantages: lots of options for delivery, they're great with call-ahead to-go orders, they're quick, efficient and friendly. They offer brown rice at no extra charge. Disadvantages: Totally middle of the road thai place. My tom kha soup and green curry lacked flavor. Nothing great, nothing horrible. If you need thai food, it'll do the trick, but I wouldn't seek it out.

I had their Indonesian fried rice....chicken was super dry....rice isn't that good. Overpriced for the quality. I won't go back

Tried this place for the first time after passing by it many times. The TomYum soup was very good but the Masaman curry was only so-so, had better elsewhere. Overall cleanliness of the non-frills dining area was good but the service was a tad slow - although they were friendly. I'll give this place a couple more shots, but right I can only give it a "meh" rating.

The only reason I havent given them 1 star is because the food is pretty good. HOWEVER everything else is TERRIBLE. I live 5-7 min from newton center in Oak Hill park and these guys call me to complain of "Traffic" at 3:40 pm on a thursday. From Newton Center to here? Give me a break. On top of charging FIVE dollars to drive my food less than four miles they call me back to tell me it will be "late" meaning cold. DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE PEOPLE.

You know a place is bad when it takes 45 minutes, in line, to pick up an order, they once again screwed it up by missing ingredients. The crab rangoon tasted rancid, and was perhaps some of the worst imitation shrimp yet. Pad See-ew was literally just a base for the dish, with NONE of the other items typically in it. It was soggy, uninviting soy sauce mess. I would never recommend this place, even if you are drunk and coming back from the bar for a late night meal... horrible service, ZERO consistency

The service... 3.5 Stars: This place is a ten minute walk from my work. I ordered lunch online, got a notification that it would be ready at 1:05, and when I walked in at 1:05, it was ready right on-time. It seems like people tend to dislike the eating area/service/slow delivery, so I think ordering online and picking it up is probably the way to go. I ordered... Coconut Pancake - 3.5 Stars: I really liked this - crispy dough packed with yummy coconut. I think the sauce was just duck sauce with a kick, but it worked well with the pancake. Tofu Ginger Noodles - 2 Stars: Would not recommend. A lot of veggies and big chunks of tofu; not many noodles and not much sauce. The noodles were like under-cooked linguine. Overall it had almost no flavor, so I'm glad I asked for chili sauce on the side. I will probably not go back, but I think it was worth going at least once to try the coconut pancake.

If you are DESPERATE for thai, then shop here. However, this restaurant quality of the meal is subpar compared to Similans in Cambridge. The chicken was dry and the "thai" iced tea did not even use condensed milk, instead they have a pre-prepped coffee in a jug in their fridge and add half and half. So it was sugary & watery - blah. Not to mention off street parking was hard to find.

Two bad experiences, which is a pity because the food is delicious. 1) Met friends for dinner last spring and as we sat down, an extremely loud fire alarm went off. Staff seemed unconcerned and even laughed. Some patrons got up and left, but we stuck it out. Our waitress attempted to take our order a few times, but we could not hear each other over the noise. She told us that it "happens a lot" and that shutting it off was out of the restaurant's control. The alarm blared for about 15 minutes before the local fire department came to turn it off. 2) My husband and I placed an online delivery order over 1.5 hours ago. We are still waiting for our food. After waiting for an hour (it IS Friday night, so we waited a while before calling), we were told that the driver "is stuck in traffic and will be there soon". We would have cancelled our order, but we paid online with our credit card. We are most surprised that the staff has been so unapologetic in both cases. I mean - send a free app our way at the very least! Such a shame.

Super love this place. Authentic,Affordable,Amazing. My favorites are the Tom Yum Noodle Soup and Bangkok Style Pad Thai. If you love spicy food you will not go wrong with these two dishes.

I needed a new place close to school since Jamjuli closed (it was so close to school!) I checked yelp quickly but didn't have the time to read the reviews, and saw that it had a decent rating and wasn't too far. I got the pad thai, as per my million other Thai restaurant reviews this is my go to and I will not go back to a place if I don't like the pad thai. I have to say this place did NOT disappoint! Have to admit, best pad thai I have had in quite sometime, and I will most definitely be back. I also ate in the restuarant, and was served promptly and the food was quick. I was disappointed with the thai iced tea. There was too much cream, and even aside from that it tasted a little watered down. Most definitely was not the worst thai iced tea I've ever had, but not the best. Regardless, once again, I WILL BE BACK!!! Can't wait until next time :)

I've only been here during lunch, and I always get the Bangkok-style pad thai. It's consistently good, and it has a great level of heat - pretty delicious and generously portioned. I'm eager to try more dishes. The service is good, but extremely impersonal (maybe there is better service for dinner hours). However, the food makes up for any lack of charm. Give this place a try for a casual lunch.

Absolutely delicious! It's teeny tiny with oh about 6 tables, but it's a cute little place that apparently does a heck of a take out buisness- and you know it's good when you see all the fire fighters and EMTs from Newton getting their take out there, haha. The Pad Thai is standard but good and huge portions, and the green curries are delicious! Tried the roti- a little different from the Bengali version I'm used to but the coconut ginger sauce to dunk it in is amazing!!! My favorite thing on the menu so far- the fresh rolls with peanut sauce. Yum!!

The food has always been pretty good - nothing amazing - but the service is tough. If you'd like delivery, expect about an hour and a half. It's unacceptable for it to take that long, and for that reason I won't be ordering from here again.

This Thai food is really tasty! I moved to Newton from Oakland, where there are dozens of Thai restaurants, so I was really happy to find a good one so close to home. Everything we had (Drunken Noodle, Crispy Tofu, Pad See Ew, Pad Thai) was great. The Drunken Noodle (Pad Kee Mow) in particular is excellent. The downsides, and they are minor: this place is tiny with a tiny "t." I think they only have 4 tables, maybe 5 if everyone is a 2-top? They seem to do a lot of takeout because it's so small. Which brings me to the second minor downside: when we got takeout, our crispy rolls were not at all crispy. I only live a 5-min drive away, so they weren't sitting in a steaming container for long. I would strongly prefer to eat in, but it's so small, you're taking your chances showing up there any time near lunch or dinner.

The Indonesian Fried Rice changed my whole conception of what "good" is: I had never had a meal that so deliciously encapsulated my expectations of what $11.72 should make you feel like. It could have been the fried egg, maybe. Or the incredible breaded fried chicken strips. Maybe the rice had some special secret in it; I do not know. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a plate of Indonesian Fried Rice.

The coconut cafe is as authentic as it can get in terms of Thai food. The fresh vegetables could be spruced up a bit and the seafood was slightly off but many of the other food items were good. I do love the spice combos they use and it is tasty, I wish it just tasted a little fresher. I will go back next week again and see if it was just an off night. I have been here a few other times last year and it was lovely and I do. It remember feeling as if the freshness was lacking. However, this time when I had lunch here a few weeks ago, I did. I would quote is as just O-K.

I love this place! Best vegetarian Thai food - try the fried tofu corners!

Crispy pad thai is to die for. This is our go to place for Thai takeout, better than every other place in Newton. Don't mess around. Put this in your top 3 rotation. Pad Thai and all the curry dishes are great.
