After reading several reviews on Yelp my boyfriend and I decided to try 3 Squares. Since we are on vacation from Iowa we rely on these reviews! The location and decor were very nice we decided to sit outside on the patio which had very nice seating. Our server was pleasant and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed! I ordered the cranberry chicken salad which was AMAZING! I literally can not express how good it was! My boyfriend first ordered the steak bomb sandwich however after a bit our waiter came back to inform us the kitchen was out of that. To make up for it the waiter brought us sample platter of their different fries. So nice! My boyfriend then ordered the chicken ziti which we both thought was excellent! 4 stars instead of 5 because they didn't have the steak bomb. Overall if we are ever In town again we will be back to try more things on the menu!!!

This review is purely for the service. Sunday morning at 9 am with loads of people waiting and around 30% of the tables empty should have been the first sign. We got seated 10 minutes later and sat for another 15 minutes at a table with no server having talked to us. We tried flagging them down, nothing so got up and left. Again, never tried the food because we never had the opportunity and were annoyed at being there about 30 minutes when it was NOT busy.

My wife and I have tried this place on three occasions - dinner only. There really is nothing better than a good meal. My god, this place puts me in such a good mood. I hate to sound corny, but I truly feel all warm and fuzzy when I eat here! My most recent meal was the shrimp scampi, to which I requested the addition of chicken, which was no problem at all! That dish came out like a painting. It was so elegantly put together, I took a picture of it! Please God - don't let this place change!

You have to eat the BBQ Ribs here they are the best.. We were driving by and saw this place and just happened to pull over. Boy it was an amazing dinner. My wife who is vegetarian had squash pomodoro and she loved it. Mind you she is a picky eater . Hanging out with Aaron the owner made the evening so much special.

En route home from a workshop in Providence so Yelp reviews (and the proximity of the restaurant to I95) helped us decide to try 3 Squares. It was a Friday around 6 pm and we called in advance to see if there was a wait and there wasn't. We arrived a little after 6 pm and the restaurant was pretty quite for a Friday night. We were quickly greeted and requested outdoor seating which was available and ample. The outdoor seating area is very spacious but overlooks Highland Ave. which is a pretty busy street. Menu's were given to us by our host but it took almost 10 minutes for the waitress to arrive. We (hubby and I) decided on two entrees. Him the classic burger ($11.99) with sweet potato fries ($2 up charge) and a side garden salad for $4. Me, the cajun grilled salmon ($17.99) which included two sides so I chose the house made potato chips and summer grilled mixed vegetables as well as a side greek salad $4. The salads were fresh and sizable for the $4 charge. Our entrees were delivered by a different waitress who did ask if we needed anything and we said "no" but then hubby realized the burger didn't come with any condiments and he wanted mayo. He waited a bit to see if our waitress would poke her head out the door before digging in to his burger but couldn't wait any longer so began eating his burger. Good thing it was juicier than it appeared so he was able to eat it without any condiments. The sweet potato fries were very crispy and not greasy. My cajun salmon was nicely seasoned and cooked medium to rare which was perfect for me. The grilled summer veggies were a mix of red onions, zucchini and carrots and were cooked perfectly but a big on the oily side. The house made chips were excellent! Overall, the food was very good but the service was lacking. Our waitress never came by after taking our order and we had to flag her to indicate we were finished with our meals and needed our check. 2 for service and 4.5 for food. We would consider returning if we lived closer or passing by in the area again.

This place is so awesome. I attend a nearby college and unfortunately only found out about 3 Squares in my last year. After going for the first time my first week back from summer vacation, I have been back so many times that the staff knows my name and what I usually order. The French toast is amazing, but I made it my mission to try everything on the menu before I graduate. I have been way more than satisfied so far! (Kudos to George and Dan for being the best in the customer service realm!) The water glasses are also really cool! 3 Squares is a must try...and a must try again!

I have been in the restaurant business for over 20 years from busboy to owner and I have come to understand many of the difficulties faced by employees on a daily basis. What I just experienced was inexcusable; 930am Sunday morning, 4 cars in the parking lot, restaurant was super slow and recommended by a friend. 3 large men with two small children looking at 7+ open tables. We were about to be seated when a young man with dark hair told us that he couldn't put tables together for us because 'you never know when they might get a rush'....we laughed at first because we thought he was joking. Enough said, I will never visit the establishment again.

Tonight, my friend and I decided to try the dinner menu at 3 Squares, and we were bitterly disappointed. Our evening started out like this: As the manager was helping us set up the outside heating lamp, my friend thanked him for his help and remarked that "it's freezing outside tonight." To this, he replied, "Well we could snuggle...and you also just made me lose. I made a bet with some people that I would punch the first person who complained about it being cold after this miserable winter in the throat. But since you have such a cute face, I can't do that." HOW IS THIS PROFESSIONAL?! As if that wasn't bad enough, I found leftover/old pieces of squid in my side dish of sweet potato fries. Unless you're a fan of sweet potato-calamari and unprofessional staff, I highly recommend not supporting this business.

I had a VERY good breakfast! I ordered the classic egg sandwich with ham on a bagel. It also came with home fries and in my opinion, it is the home fries that make or break a breakfast place. Anyone can cook an egg or fry up some bacon. These home fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned and greatly enhanced the overall breakfast experience. The coffee was also a pleasant surprise. When I walked in, I saw they had just a drip coffee maker- the type you associate with nondescript generic coffee. It turned out they brewed a hearty cup of dark roast that was delicious! The restaurant itself was quite clean, bright and roomy. Overall, a very good experience. I would come here again for breakfast in a heartbeat.

Went out to 3 Squares recently, with a small group on a weeknight. We sat at a booth, and the tabletop was so wide that both sides of the table were cramped. It was not very crowded. Which is why it surprised me that our entrees (4 people) did not all come out at once. You know, when you have to sit there staring at your food but not wanting to be rude to the others you're with by eating in front of them as they stare at you longingly? They were out of the beer I ordered, even though it was on the chalkboard at the front of the dining room. They were also out of all but one of the "seasonal" items on the menu. The calamari was very oily. Not in a good way oily. The salmon that I had as a main entree was good, however the veg was oily, kind of in the same saturated way that the calamari was oily. The ambience reminded me of Friendly's - was this building a Friendly's at one point?

For two weeks my son attended a camp from 8:30 to 11 in Needham - and I found this gem of a neighborhood cafe to hang out at and work. I settled into a great routine - supported by the friendly and helpful staff. My go to breakfast - two eggs over easy, corn beef hash, dark rye and a side of sliced tomatoes. Never disappointed. Camp ends today and I'm trying to figure out how to keep 3 Squares in my routine!!

I've been wanting to try 3 Squares since I first saw it, as it looks like a cute, local place that is kid-friendly. Since our fridge broke down this weekend, my husband suggested we try it for brunch. Great idea! There were only a few full tables when we arrived, but it was early on a Monday (albeit a holiday). It started to fill up a bit while we were there, with a mix of families and adults. The waitress was super friendly and helpful. Although the food took quite a while to come out, we didn't care as we weren't in a rush. We loved the water glasses - they were a good size and had a fun shape (sort of curved at the top). A minor detail, but very often, that's what you notice! My husband went immediately for the Rise N Shine Weekday Special: 2 eggs, homefries, toast & coffee for $5.99 and he added sausage for $2. I tasted a tiny bit of sausage and loved it: good flavor and a nice snap when you bite it. I was drawn to the Left Coast: avocado, turkey bacon, tomatoes, caramelized onions, and cheddar cheese topped with salsa for $9.99. The omelet was huge - I couldn't even finish it (my baby did the job for me). It kept me full for pretty much the entire day, which is RARE for me. The last few bites were hard to get down, but I think that's just me - I tend to be that way with omelets. Overall, I loved it - great flavor, although a bit oily. The home fries were good (a few were undercooked, but I think that's typical with home fries) and it was a small, but decent portion. We each got 2 whole slices of toast, which is nice, and a plate of jelly. I wouldn't say it's the BEST place I've ever tried, but we enjoyed it and love that they do breakfast, lunch & dinner. There were a LOT of things on the menu that sounded good, so I may have to try almost everything!

This place is interesting. I've been here a few times for a quick breakfast before work. It has never been a quick breakfast. Takes 20 mins to get a server to take your drink order...coffee. Food seems a little pricey for breakfast. Food is good and relatively quick but the process getting there takes forever. Go here with company when you have the time but is not an in and out place for breakfast. Breakfast should not take more 30 mins in and out. You won't find that here.

We decided to walk up to 3 Squares this weekend, because it is one of the only restaurants in Needham(maybe the only) that has outside seating. A group of four of us sat outside and decided to split apps and entrees, which worked out perfectly. We had the pulled pork quesadilla, which was amazing. I would highly recommend it. The chopped salad was great and big enough to take half home for lunch the next day. We also had the boneless honey hot wings and the circus burger. We saw the pulled pork potato skins go by before we left and will definitely try those next time!

Omg. Ive never had a better breakfast!! It was 11:30 and we were worried we missed breakfast ( they serve brunch till 3) we were seated immediately. Our food came out so quickly. We had the best waitress she was so attentive and friendly, I had the rise and shine with a bowl of fruit, and it was the biggest helping of fresh tasty fruit ever! After our breakfast our waitress asked if we wanted coffees to go! Fantastic service! Deffinitly going again!!

I think my review is the best one yet.. my husband and I came for dinner one night, I ordered the pork chop and a side salad.. well my salad came out and was pretty good until I saw a bug walking around the inside of the bowl..it hadn't just "flown in" it had been in there..so I called the waitress over and...now for the good part.. she looked in the bowl..said "eww" and squished it with her thumb right there in the bowl right in front of me...are you kidding?? she asked me if I wanted another salad...don't think so..well to add insult to injury when the bill came she had charged me for the salad ..I told her that I was not paying for a sald that had a bug in it and she said that she would have to talk to the manager about it..I said "allow me" He was mortified that she had acted that way..the service is not good and the waitstaff are very rude..I will never go back again

Great meal! Went on a Sunday night for supper, sat on the patio as the restaurant was full. Service was slow but I think it was busier than they were prepared for. We were a party of 8 and the majority of us had a burger, everyone was very pleased.

Had brunch here this morning. The food is fine, but the service is very lacking. My husband's food wasn't what he ordered; when it came out the second time it was missing the bacon it was supposed to come with, though we didn't bother correcting that at that point, nor my toast which was not the kind I ordered either. But the reason I'm bothering with a Yelp review is actually that when we got our bill it had a $1 "egg surcharge". I don't care about the dollar, but we had not been told there would be such a charge nor was there any notice on the menu. The server said there was a sign at the door, but I hadn't seen it among the other signs advertising boxing classes at the local gym and whatever else was there- and in any case why not tell your customers when they place an egg order?

Great food and awesome service. I highly recommend the BLT, probably the best I've ever had. My friend had the "Kung Fu" salad and it was excellent, especially the dark cherry dressing. Great local Needham spot.

This is the PLACE to go if your husband wants a great burger, pork chop or the like and you want a healthy salad. I have a favorite, chopped salad with grilled salmon, and it has always been perfectly prepared with the freshest vegetables and salmon grilled as requested. Since I crave this salad, I've brought friends and neighbors. They've all enjoyed their meals whether eating my husbands favorites or my salad. After a busy day, it is nice to sit down to a table set with a starched white tablecloth, sip a glass of wine and be served by a friendly waiter.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. Amazing service, amazing atmosphere. Their veggie burger is the best on the earth, they have an outstanding selection on wines and their desserts are incredible. You will not regret visiting 3 Squares, for any meal!

We were hoping for an improvement the second visit in 5 weeks with more time open and experience for the staff BUT we were not in luck. Our party of five on a Tuesday nite in mid August was seated in the back left corner area. Our waitress was not too enthusiastic for the business. The food came out at different times with my husband being at least five minutes last. The cucumbers in the side salad of the pork chops had been near something frozen or a too cold part of the refrigerator. My sister in laws pork chop, which she asked to be prepared well done came out very pink. She sent it back. After five minutes (Ha five is a theme here) I got up to see where it was in Needham! The ziti in my son's chicken parm dish was over cooked and soft, yuck. Our waitress only had a smile when we left. This is a great location just off 128 for anyone to eat after being stuck in traffic, but I am afraid they will wish they waited and ate at home. There were a lot of children and their burgers looked fine. Maybe we will try again for lunch, but maybe not. Oh my salad was fine but they are a bit hard to screw up,maybe not next time!

Had a late lunch here with a friend this past Monday and I have to say I was very disappointed. The waitress was inattentive, rude and didn't make eye contact with us once. She brought 2 extra small plates to the table that were dirty, she didn't ask how the food was once, she didn't ask if we wanted refills on drinks despite the fact that my empty glass was standing on the side of the table for a good 20 mins...eventually I flagged down another waitress and asked her for a refill and she said I'll get your server who eventually came after a while. The food was ok, I had a Greek salad with chicken but the dressing was overpowering and way too heavy on the salad...salad soup? After I got home I had a stomach ache and GI issues. I won't be returning anytime soon. Oh and did I mention there was only about 5 customers tops in there so she wasn't busy! No Bueno... Btw I'm not saying I got food poisoning or anything..that would be unfair.. If the waitress was excellent I would have given them a better score. Your wait staff are the face of your restaurant!!!

A great addition to the somewhat dismal brunch scene in Newton. The restaurant is pretty and clean, but they could use a few more decorations to give it a more unique and interesting atmosphere. The menu selection is adequate. I ordered the "lean mean florentine" while my friend ordered the western omelette. Her boyfriend also ordered the lean mean florentine. My friend's meal looked amazing, but mine was kind of small and falling apart. I understand my dish was the healthier option with egg whites, but that shouldn't mean they should make it smaller and less appealing/flavorful. My friend's boyfriend agreed with me. However, they had excellent service and they never rushed us to leave when we were finished even though it was getting busy. They also have a small bar with craft beers.

So I use Yelp to look for businesses often but so far I haven't written many reviews. I am writing a review about this place because I was pleasantly surprised at how delightful the food was despite it being a breakfast, lunch AND dinner place. Not sure why Yelp has them listed as only breakfast & brunch. Usually when you come across a restaurant that services all meals it is not exactly fancy however decor was pleasant, food was fantastic, there is an outdoor patio where they had a live reggae band playing (which is why we were there) and the server was really nice. Lovely lights, patio heaters, cloth napkins, etc. I got the fish and chips which I enjoyed thoroughly. Light, flaky, not greasy, not overdone. I get the fish and chips all over town and when I travel and these rank high on the scale. My friend go the mussels which were also done perfectly served with a big piece of bread to soak up the garlic wine sauce. The beer selection was good an the mixed drinks looked awesome. Owner came over and chatted us up and we left feeling we had found a real gem. .

This was a great breakfast. I would turn this into 5 stars with more unique breakfast items. I will have to come back and see what they have for lunch or dinner. The coffee was very, very good.

To be honest, I was extremely disappointed in the meal my family and I had here. We waited for about an hour only to find out that The chef didn't arrive. My family and I ordered a left coast which is an omelet with avocado, salsa etc... And instead we got a plain omelet. They only took off $4.00 for all of us combined which is extremely inappropriate for the amount of ingredients that were excluded from our dish. I was extremely disappointed.

As stated before this is one of the only places to eat outside in Needham! Huge plus for me! Have visited twice since I moved here last month each time was great! Had the chicken salad sandwich with homemade potato chips yum!! And the Cajun salmon yum again!! Love having a place to go nearby where I can have a good meal and a cocktail...plus on Thursday nights there is a reggae band and 2 for 1 margaritas...will definitely keep going for that! Staff is very friendly the only thing was the food took awhile whether it was busy or not...I wasn't in a rush but that's all they should work on! Highly recommend :)

Great food and service! Kid friendly with an nice cafe ambiance. We had omelettes and the Teddy bear pancakes all delicious. The English muffins tasted like English crumpets. The home fries were a little too greasy.

Everything was delicious. I had fried calamari (without the thai sauce) and the pan seared cajun salmon. The calamari was fried just right so it had just the right texture. The salmon was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside with just the right amount of seasoning. I would definitely come here again when in Needham.

Whenever I go out for breakfast I get pancakes, because I love pancakes but also because I'm on a lifelong quest to find pancakes to rival those of Clinton Street Baking Company in New York City. 3 Squares has Really Good Pancakes. They're buttermilk, light, fluffy and if you so choose come with just the right amount of blueberries or banana mixed in. I highly recommend. Bonus points to 3 Squares for offering REAL maple syrup as an alternative to the usual fakey pancake syrup-- something that is surprisingly hard to come by in breakfast joints even in New England. I also thoroughly enjoyed my oversized mug of terrific, freshly brewed coffee and the pleasant, friendly wait staff.

I went alone for brunch and really liked the look of the restaurant. I was greeted by the hostess and seated promptly at a booth. However, when my waitress came over, her first words were "Hey, what's goin' on?". She proceeded to sit down across from me, tell me how tired she was, then lie down on the booth seat. I was surprised, because I would not expect that at this type of restaurant. I looked around to make sure that I was not really at Waffle House :-) I will add that all of the other servers I saw and heard were VERY professional. I ordered an omelet with an avocado "add-in". My order came out very fast, but the avocado was on top of the omelet. Potatoes were included, but were lukewarm. The toast was almost cold. The omelet was super hot, but the egg was a little hard. It did not seem freshly made. I began eating and when she checked back, I asked why the avocado was on top and she said that avocado "does something to the griddle", so they always serve it on top. It did not make sense, but whatever. The music was great, but a little loud. I really wanted to like this place as I am here on business for 6 months and looking for alternatives to hotel food. Ah well, the search continues.

We live up the street from this restaurant and been very happy with the food and service here. Our toddler son loves when we bring him here for breakfast, he wakes up on weekend mornings and starts listing off what's he's looking forward to having..bacon sausage pancakes 'sywup' toast 'budda' potatoes and 'owange' juice

The service was initially slow but our server was really well versed and was good at helping us select our apps and dinners. The layout of the restaurant is very clean and without too much unnecessary "art deco" that too many places feel looks good. It is a nice atmosphere, relaxed and comforting. The food was GREAT, the turkey chili was absolutely some of the best I have ever had. The steak tips were very very good, everything was fresh and from the taste and presentation I could immediately tell they use high quality ingredients. Did not have dessert, but will next time. Overall was pleasantly surprised and would recommend to anyone looking for a place that has a scratch kitchen because unfortunately in this area there aren't many. And the ones that are leave a lot to be desired! Not this place, just need to try breakfast and lunch to complete the trifecta! Looking forward to that.............................This will become a more frequently visited place in my book.

These were some of the best bbq wings I've ever had. My wife's "flat bread" (MA code for crappy pizza), was awful. My Reuben was a little dry, but the bread was nicely toasted to try and lock in the moisture and keep the bread from turning to mush. The service was good on a slow day, so no complaints there. We took a relative that ordered a pasta dish, so all together I think I spent $70 for three people. Not bad, good food, I'll go back for the wings and try something else.

I was really excited about this place. We had a long drive ahead of us and were looking for a good breakfast place. We walked in and there were more people working there than eating. We sat at the table for TWENTY minutes without and service. We made eye contact with servers and no one helped us. Remember, this is when no one is there....We ended up just walking out. Who knows. Maybe this place is good if you can convince someone to serve you.

Meh. Very variable. Sometimes the food has been great and the service excellent. Sometimes both have been mediocre. I love their outdoor seating, and that they are walking distance from my house. I do wish, though, that they'd serve off their breakfast menu all day long.

I have been here two times in the past 2 weeks and it is becoming my favorite restaurant! :) I stumbled across 3 squares when I was in the area for something else, and I then drove 30 minutes the next week to bring my sister here! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant! I have yet to try breakfast here but have been here for lunch and dinner and had the best dish I have ever had in my life! ( the pumpkin ravioli is a must!) There are many options on the menu, it's clean, and the owner is very friendly, he actually came over to my table and personally talked to us at the end of our meal which I thought was wonderful! Oh, and the homemade chips!!!! Delicious! Go here, you won't be disappointed!

2 burgers. 2 drinks. Tax and tip. $29. I feel slightly ripped off. The burger today was absolutely mediocre. I received 2 pats of butter wrapped in foil for an entire backed potato - if you're going to bring pre-packaged butter, at least be gracious and leave a bowl of 5 or 6? - Perhaps I'm asking too much? The fish and chips I tasted last week were very good. The service was fine. The restaurant is clean. There's plenty of parking. Wednesday is kids night - they can make their own sundae. Perhaps today was an off day? But $29 for 2 burgers and drinks didn't seem worth it. Update - Re: Burgers We've decided that 3 Squares in simply WAY over-priced. We MUCH prefer '5 Guys'. The burgers are much tastier and half the price. ($12 vs $6). 5 Guys offers many free toppings, free peanuts and soda refills. There are no waiters.

Very disappointing dinner- the only good part was the margarita four of us went for saturday early dinner- the place was empty, the waiter clueless, the steaktips cold, fish and chips was chipless and dry, chicken brushetta was small and dry our sides were carrot sticks and cucumber slices What a shame- atmosphere and setting so pleasant and easy but food was a disaster!

I can't believe I waited this long to eat here! My mom and I went for brunch this weekend. We both got the french toast and split a side of bacon, hash browns, and a fruit salad. The french toast was out of this world! The bacon and home fries were delicious, as well. This has immediately become a new favorite. I can't wait to try their lunch/dinner! Thanks for the amazing food and service!

We met two of dearest best friends at 3 Squares last night for a long overdue get together. We wanted someplace where we could have a casual diner but still have good quality food that was equidistant between our two homes. We could not have been more impressed. Our server Emily was extraordinary. She was extremely personable and really made us feel quite comfortable. We had a few requests that were deviations from their menu and she was more than willing to take them to the kitchen to see if they would not mind the extra work. Everything was just as we had wanted and the preparations were just perfect. This is a fairly new restaurant and they are just getting the attention they deserve. We will definitely be returning and telling our friends to do the same. We've heard the breakfast/brunch is quite special so we need to check that out as well.

My husband has been here three times with my daughter. While he thought the food was fine (but just a tad expensive for what it is.) He did overhear the owner reprimand his staff, which customers should really not hear. Leave it to growing pains of a new restaurant. I wanted to try this place out, so I decided to go for a late lunch. As I walked in with my daughter, the hostess saw me but didn't really greet me. Finally I said "a table for two please" and she tells me the place closes from 3-4pm. I was probably there a little before 3pm but there were customers still there. Having specific hours is fine and reasonable, but this whole exchange left me a feeling like I was a pest and un welcomed. The hostess didn't seem apologetic. I walked out feeling like I shouldn't ever go back. Which is too bad because like other reviewers have said, we really need a restaurant like this in this town. I really want to like this place. We do think there needs to be some sort of management over haul. The vibe in there is a bit off. Sorry, we won't be back.

No sure why all the bad reviews, I like this place. It sorta reminds me of an upscale 99 restaurant (if there is such a thing!) . Full bar can't beat that , plus the staff is very friendly, nothing wrong with the food either its good. Basically it boils down to three things....clean place, food is good and beer is cold ! I'll be back.

3 Squares has become a weekly spot for my family and I. We are there at least once a weekend morning and often times once a week night. The food is great and the service is even better. It has truly become my families version of "Cheers" where everyone knows our names. It is very welcoming to families with young children such as us.

Based on location, I have tried this place several more times and happy to report that they continually improve - the service has certainly stepped up their game and not just once, its maintained some measurable upside! I'm a fan - it's a great mix and happy to see a place like this making it happen. Clean, courteous, solid diverse menu, excellent servers - great local joint now.

Food: Take-Out Breakfast (eggs, ham, toast, home fries and a 10 oz OJ). The ham was over-cooked. I've had better home fries. Price: $12.73 Service: Friendly, but slow. I waited about 15 min for my food and the place wasn't even packed. They didn't give me napkins or plastic utensils. Plus: Convenient location Cons: Too expensive

Food Needs improvement. Happy to see this new restaurant about 80% filled on a Sunday morning. Hostesses and servers were friendly and polite. We ordered an omelet, French toast, bear pancake and bacon. 1. All food was lukewarm on arrival and bacon was severely undercooked. 2. Toast was burnt. 3. The plates need at least some fruit garnish -- French toast was 4 triangles of French toast and nothing else -- the plate looked bare. A few pieces of fruit would go a long way (and get closer to being a "square" meal!) 4. Coffee servings are generous, but come with wimpy half and half creamers. Would be nicer to serve with a small pitcher of milk/cream instead. Place was full of kids - would be great to have step stool with bathrooms to help with washing hands (as stone hearth pizza does). Hopefully the food can be tweaked and the results easily improved!

We visit family several times a year and used to eat at the prior establishment at this address. We returned this morning and it was a disappointment. Service was lousy with 4 different people handling our table. The 17 year old staffers left alot to be desired. As for the table.. Dirty w syrup still on it after they said it was ready. The utensils were still dirty when unwrapped from the paper napkin. Flies buzzed the table throughout breakfast. Small glass of grapefruit juice $3! Two small eggs as two slices of bacon $8! Really miss the prior owners. These guy took a breakfast gem and turned it into a slug Never going back and the family we visited wont be back either.

Lots of issues this morning . My girlfriend ordered an omelet with avocado. The waitress brought her omelet & there was no avocado. After much research, she told us they ran out. Meanwhile, we waited forever for water & juice, & no silverware (we were told they ran out!). I asked to speak to the manager & he was busy sweeping, bussing tables, etc. he explained that their produce order hadn't arrived & that he told a few servers to spread the word. Sorry but that's poor management. He said he was busy on the line in the kitchen. They gave us $1.50 off the bill; really? Isn't a good review worth more? Very poor management. We left a good tip because I don't blame the server. Get your act together over there!

Needham needed a restaurant with great food where you can have kids sitting in a booth with the parents and a date night at the bar and this is it! I'm not sure what others are writing about regarding bad service, but we had the opposite experience (*note at the time of this review this restaurant has only been open 3 weeks, so give the place at least 1 month to get the kinks worked out). The owner came over and introduced himself and we chatted a bit. He shared with us what was great on the menu and he was not exaggerating! The chipotle chicken wings, the chopped salad (not your average chop btw) were fabulous. I had the marinated steak tips and the bf has the herb crusted chicken. Both were cooked properly, hot and the sides had just the right amount of butter/seasoning. I saw another family I know there and asked the boys what they had for breakfast the other day. They both screamed "The Hayden!" and proceeded to tell me how much food they got and that they ate it all. Also, they were thrilled to tell me it is named after the owner's daughter, so they felt extra special. All during our time at dinner (we sat at the bar, our preference) the bartender was always checking in, refilling drinks, and the owner was table hopping in the dining area and connecting with his customers making sure they were all happy. All of this, and the food is extremely reasonably priced with a not-boring typical Boston-suburb menu. If you want an easy weeknight date or a great place to find Carnival cinnamon toast for your kids go to 3 Squares!

I have had both a late breakfast (on a weekday) and dinner at 3 squares. Both meals were very tasty, with plenty to eat and a friendly and helpful server. Prices are quite reasonable. Wine list is creative and had some really good choices. I like this place and recommend it to everyone!

I only take the time to write a review when a place is either really good, or really bad....We did not eat here tonight because it was closed from 4-7 for a private function.....When we went to the door and saw the sign, we walked back to our car.....Well, the owner saw us and came out and apologized that there was a private party taking place. He explained to us that it was for the successful fundraiser that the Temple across the street had just concluded. He insisted that we come in and join everyone and have drinks and dine and socialize with them! Talk about hospitality!! He insisted we join him, but we declined the gracious invitation and told him we are looking forward to coming in for dinner very soon. Talk about making a great impression....

The food here was delicious! We have been struggling to find a great breakfast place in the area and it seemed as though this could be a winner. I had the French toast and a side of home fries, my boyfriend had the chocolate chip pancakes and a side of corned beef hash. The sweet syrup that comes on the French toast was amazing! The home fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly as well! It would have been 5 stars if it wasn't for the poor service. Our waiter barely checked on us and we waited 25 minutes after we finished our food for him to come back for the check. When he arrived he admitted to forgetting about us! He just forgot he had two paying customers sitting there waiting for him?! Seems unacceptable to me. We are likely to go back because of the delicious food, but I hope there is better service next time.

My family loves to support local business! We went here last night and had a great dinner. The sangria was delicious, the food was cooked to perfection and the service was great! I think it's easy to get trapped at places like Not Your Average Joe's or Bertuccis when you're looking for a local meal out. Drive the extra few minutes to 3 squares and you won't regret it! I'm looking forward to trying brunch!

What a hidden Gem! This quaint little place on Highland ave is perfect for a quick bite that will not only please your palate but, is reasonably priced. My omelet was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The hash was delicious and homemade. Even the fresh brewed iced tea was out of the ordinary. Two diners next to me were enjoying some wine. ( yes, they have a full service bar there, too ) Service was impeccable. My napkin fell from my lap- before I could even reach down to get it, one of the wait staff noticed and came over with a fresh one! I will certainly make this place a "regular" destination If they maintain this level of service and quality food! This is NOT a "greasy spoon." Check it out... it will not disappoint!

I went here for breakfast on a whim. I ordered an eggs florentine. The eggs were perfectly poached, amazing hollandaise sauce, and perfectly cooked (crispy on the outside and soft on the inside) home fries. All this was beautifully presented. Perhaps the best eggs florentine I have ever had. The server was kind and friendly. I will be returning!

Went here for Dinner and returned the next day for breakfast because we just love breakfast. Its a new place so they are working out some kinks. We had a salad, which was decent, but WAY WAY too small for the price. It's listed as an entree and priced accordingly, but for its size, its an appetizer. Was good, just not enough. The steak tips were good, just undercooked which we sent back. It wasn't seasoned with much. The brussel sprouts were way over salted. They have good beers on tap. Bartender who served us was friendly, and the service was good. No complaints. Breakfast Wife liked her omelet, I had pancakes which quite honestly weren't good. They were flat and not fluffy and had a weird yellow tint. They seriously need to work on their pancakes. The kids ordered the pancakes which were just a set of pancakes and no fruit or anything. They should give a little fruit to round out a square meal. Decent price for breakfast, we would come back here for breakfast as it is near by and better than other options in Needham for breakfast. But, they need to work on the quality of their pancakes as this is an anchor item. They also need to have real maple syrup as an option. The french toast my son had was pretty good. If its going to bill itself as 3 squares, the meals need to be rounded out and presented as such. Good first effort, we will come back and I hope to up the rating on my review. **UPDATE*** Ok They have been open a few months now and we came back again for breakfast hoping Aaron and the crew could iron out the kinks. We were there fairly early and there was a little bit of a wait (quoted 15 minutes). We were a party of 2, and I noticed 5 open and cleaned tables that were not being seated, the entire time we waited. All the while people kept streaming in. A party of 7 came in and said they had a reservation. The hostess seemed a bit confused as they said "We dont take reservations, who did you talk to?" A valid question, but in my mind I dont think a party of 7 would have randomly just showed up and said they made a reservation if it wasn't legit. I think the hostess should have asked them to wait while she hunted down the source of the reservation. Sort of arguing with the customer is not the best way to get off to the right start. We were seated finally (at one of the tables I observed being clean for a while), and we ordered. Wife ordered a cup of tea, and a few minutes later, a very small cup of lukewarm water (not hot) was placed in front of her. The waitresses words were "Before you say anything, our bigger mugs are being washed right now". Before we say anything???? 1) She was insinuating that we were going to argue (which we were not), and 2) How about this: "We are out of the larger mugs right now, but as soon as they are clean, I'll bring you a fresh cup." Aaron, you got to work on your staff, this is not a greasy spoon. So we had an omelette, and the wife had a scrambled egg combo. Food was halfway decent, homefries were not great. They were undercooked and mushy, much like other complaints. Its pretty clear they haven't rectified this. If you are going to breakfast, you MUST nail home fries. The plates could have used some fruit.. this is 3 square meals, why not live to your name. Add some fruit just for presentation value alone. All in all just an ok experience. I looked at some things other people were ordering. Pancakes still looked yellow and not great. Wife and I agreed it isn't worth coming back for the hassle factor.

The owner was so hospitable, he invited us in even when the restaurant was closed for break. We very much enjoyed our meals..pulled pork sammies were delicious, fries/sweet potato fries were amazing, 3grilled cheese was wonderful too! Service was great too, as were bar drinks! Thanks! !

I REALLY wanted to love this place. AT the least I really wanted to like it. In the end, I did not. All I can do is share my experience - your experience may be different. We went for breakfast. Me and my two sons, ages 12 and 14. I had the corned beef hash and eggs, toast, home fries, a side of bacon and coffee. My sons had pancakes. The corned beef hash (CBH) was not to my liking. I have had corned beef hash at many places. Some of it great, some of it just ok. This was the first time I could not eat it. There is some seasoning in there I have never experienced in CBH before. I have no idea what it was but the whole taste was off and un-enjoyable. My eggs were supposed to be over easy - which is what I like with CBH. They were juuuuuussst this side of hard. The toast came with no detectable butter on the slices and no butter was delivered to the table. Luckily my kids do not like butter on their pancakes so I stole their butter for the toast. The home fries were also odd. Sort of a weird orange color. Not crispy. The flavor of them was "ok" but it was not good. I did not finish these. My kids also had sides of home fries but they did not like their at all and would not eat them. The bacon was ok. Some slices were nice and crispy while others though were not cooked to the point of any part being crispy. Just sort of soggy. I suppose this could have been ok but the bacon appeared to be of low quality where there is very little actual meat and all fat. So not crispy is not ok for bacon of this quality. The coffee tasted good. But the odd part was they give you a large cup but only fill it about 2/3, maybe slightly less. The kids pancakes tasted odd too. without syrup they were sort of soggy. My older son only ate a few bites of his. The younger one about half. Oh - I should add. Our bill came to about $50 I think. We did not order anything we do not normally order in another restaurant. But I have never spent this much for breakfast for 3 of us before. All three of us agreed when we left that it was a disappointment for us and we would not be going back. Which is sad. Because I really wanted to like this place.

Love this place for breakfast been here twice so far so good. I had their Eggs Benedict Florentine and their carnival French Toast was Superb. The waitress was so nice and helpful will be going back again.

Was a bit hesitant based on the varied review history, but I realize new places often take a startup beating, so I gave it a shot. Tried the carnival French toast which was delicious, but for $8 should probably come with a side of either egg or home fries or bacon or combination of 2. I opted to get home fries as an addon for $2.. They were mixture of ok and overcooked brown crispy bits, but there was no flavor there at all ( needs spices , possibly with sautéed vegetables mixed in and caramalized onions?). I was disappointed compared to the French toast. My significant other tried the chicken Cesar wrap and opted for slaw as a side. The wrap was good and not drowned in sauce like many places , in fact it was just a touch dry .. Could've used a teeny bit more sauce. The slaw was excellent with added onions and a good ratio of lettuce to sauce, and it wasnt overly mayo-ey. Cost was about 10 for this. Pros: good food, tasty slaw, nice atmosphere, reasonable service time. Cons : a bit pricey for what you get... Not enough to scare me off , but enough to bother me a just a little. For the French toasts they could probably take the sting out by adding a side egg and bacon or at least one of the two. Homefries were an overcooked and unspiced disappointment.

Final verdict: I'll give two stars for effort, but any more would be generous. This visit we were seated at the bar for dinner. The waitstaff tends to congregate near the entrance of the kitchen and I really got tired of hearing them drop F*-bombs and talk nasty about their customers and their pay. My fish was a bit of a soggy mess and the rice pilaf was more like an unseasoned glob of sticky sushi rice than pilaf. The bartender provided wonderful dinner service, though, and the side salad was really fresh. I really would love for a B-L-D restaurant in this location to succeed, but we probably won't be going back unless we get wind of some wholesale changes to the food. ---------------------------------- Summary of previous edits: Breakfast - mediocre omelette, weird candy concoction pancakes, expensive orange juice, and bitter coffee in an ungainly mug. Dinner soon after opening - apologetic but slow service, missing or mixed-up food items, inconsistent but generally good food, and optimism for improvement.

Looking for something different other than a bagel for breakfast or brunch? Eggs florentine in Needham? YES! I had outstanding eggs florentine at 3 Squares in Needham. At 3 Squares, I enjoyed two freshly toasted english muffins, a poached egg, topped with delicious hollandaise sauce. The breakfast menu was extensive. As I was eating my eggs, I saw large overstuffed sandwiches delivered to customers. The atmosphere is inviting, informal, and modern.

Replacing the Bickfords was not hard to do and this area was in dire need of a good breakfast place. I've have a great waitress for several visits and despite a bit of a wait for a table my last visit, I'm pleased. The owner personally came out to greet the line of us waiting outside and even brought us all coffees for being patient. It's nice to see a restaurant show they want you there and an owner with a presence.

Despite some of the lukewarm reviews we decided to give this place a try for breakfast. Great variety on the menu including several healthy options, the coffee was really good, and our server did a good job. The kids loved their food, especially the teddy bear pancake. The ambiance is warm and inviting, the host and servers were polite and smiling. The only thing that kept me from giving a 5th star is that my egg scramble could have been warmer. It may have sat a few minutes while they assembled that gorgeous teddy bear pancake. We will go again and are happy to have a new choice in the area. Support local business, these types of local places become neighborhood gems.

My wife and I had breakfast here on Sunday. I had the blueberry pancakes and my wife had the veggie omelet with a bagel. The food was very good. The blueberries were plump and fresh, and the omelet was tasty. The coffee was excellent. Some of the comments here are good suggestions. For the reviewers who complained of the service, I'd suggest they cut some slack. Its a brand new place. Had loads of customers and you expect to have some issues during week 1. The owner was friendly, came by to ask how things were. The remodeling was done very well. I'm going to try the other 2 squares soon.

I've had the opportunity to dine at 3 Squares on five separate occasions over the last several weeks.. three times for Breakfast and twice for dinner. I have personally had a good experience and enjoyed both the cuisine and the service. For a first time visit, Breakfast would be a good place to start. I find the varied pancake and french toast preparations to be very creative and delicious. The State Fair rates as one of my favorite breakfast entrees anywhere in MA. I have not experienced any issues with burnt or undercooked food at all. The coffee IS high test. Lots of cream. I have had dined at the bar on each of my dinner visits to 3 Squares. The burgers and fries were cooked to my specs and the fries were piping hot and properly seasoned. The craft beer and wine lists are both well considered and my wheat beer was cold and refreshing. I have had only one issue in my visits to date. A customer sitting next to me recently, questioned the additional cost of egg beaters on their tab. The response by the server that "Sorry, but I don't make the prices. Everyone charges more for egg beaters." reflected very poorly on the establishment and was a totally inappropriate response to a customer inquiry. These guys should get on top of this type of faux pas asap. Otherwise.... Good food, reasonable prices, and solid if uneven service.

We have only been once but will try it again. Went on the weekend with the family. The menu is perfect for finicky kids and teens. We had burgers, salads, etc. The drinks were good and so was the food. Good, not awesome. Service was great. We had food allergies and they managed them well. It seemed a bit pricey for the style of food, but we are going back again, I think they will have ironed out a few kinks.

Hospitality, Service, Food. The 3 hallmarks of a good restaurant. 3 Squares has them all. Promptly seated upon our arrival last night.. Our server, Alyssa, was competent and extremely pleasant. Amongst the 4 of us we had the pork chop, salmon and steak tips. All thoughtfully presented and delicious.. Well worth a visit; morning, noon or night!

My husband, myself and my mother went here for brunch. We arrived, there was a wait for a few minutes, which is totally fine and got an awesome big booth. The waitress Yana came over after a few and gave us the specials and took our drink orders and came back and took out food order. The food came out super fast and was awesome (I had a cheese omelette, my mom had scrambled eggs, and my husband had eggs benedict). We never saw Yana the waitress until she came to get the check. We asked another server for cream cheese, plates were never cleared off our table, we sat there for quite a while before getting up and asking for the check, someone else brought it over. Finally the check was picked up and took over 10 minutes to get it back. It was busy, I totally get it, but she never acknowledged us after putting the plates on the table. We will go back because the food was really great, but service was awful.

I had my second visit here today- there was an issue with my salad and the owner was extremely gracious, polite and friendly. I left wanting to come back. This is a labor of love for him and I will be happy to support him in the future. The first time I came was for dinner and I had a bowl of chili and sweet potato fries- the chili was clearly homemade with lots of veggies and just the right amount of heat. My friend had the veggie burger which was fine- nothing special but nothing bad. Didn't seem to be handmade but was tasty and reasonably priced. Today we had salads- mine was excellent, I had the nicoise with tuna on it- the dressing was delicious, the tuna was fantastic. Fresh lettuce and vegetables. My friends chopped salad was also excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive. The renovations are modern and the atmosphere is pleasant.

We stopped by on the way home from Waltham, we used to go to the pancake house there years ago. What a pleasant surprise when we walked in they were getting ready for lunch greeted and seated right away , what a wonderful transformation light and airy . The waitress took our order and answered questions my daughter had about the food. Great kids menu , our lunch was perfect , chili was the best according to my daughter who can be very picky my grandson loved the chicken and fries. The owner Aron stopped by to say hello and tell us about the restaurant , everything made in house from dressings chili , soups ,full dinner service with a bar as well. We had such a great experience , kids night is Wednesday with a magician , as well as music on Thursday evenings I believe Aron said Motown is tomorrow evening. I for one cant wait to go back for dinner with my husband . this is just what is needed for this area .

We had a party of 7 and they were very accommodating! 6 of us fit in a booth with one of us in a chair at the end (I took that chair), no one bumped into me and the server couldn't have been nicer! Quick service, I love that our server never took down the order yet got everything exactly right; he was so sweet, efficient, personable and made us all feel welcomed. The owner came by at one point and asked what we thought; we gave rave reviews and promised him a Yelp! Onto the food, I had the Kung Fu chopped salad with the shrimp was amazing! Not usually a big beet fan but they were actually good and complimented this salad perfectly. It also had edamame, cucumbers, tomatoes, almonds and this wonderful dark cherry balsamic vinaigrette that was wonderful & light! One woman had the OMG Cod sandwich with fries that she scarfed down, the funkiest sandwich was the grilled 3 cheese with braised short rib IN IT! Let's just say the woman who had that was literally licking the plate clean, we all want to try that next time. The portions were just right, food was fresh & delectable and atmosphere was pleasant! Very clean, will go back for lunch again! This place used to be a Bickfords but you'd never know that- it was done over nicely and they left a few TVs up in the back. Also, they have a beer & wine license and offer breakfast & dinner, worth a trip for sure! Not sure why the ratings were so low for breakfast but I gotta say lunch was perfect!

We went to the restaurant for breakfast on this Sunday. We arrived at 12:35 pm and were told in no uncertain manner that breakfast is served until 1:00 only and since the wait was about 20 minutes to be seated that we would be wasting our time if we wanted breakfast.I found this a little unusual since similar restaurants either serve breakfast all day or at least until about 2:30 pm particularly on Sundays. Also no mention is made on the website as to the fact that breakfast is not served after 1:00 pm. A final straw was that I called at about 12:10 and was not informed about this fact. If this is the way this restaurant conducts business, they will certainly not have me as a patron.

Went with my elderly parents for breakfast. The staff could not have been more accomodating: holding doors, seating us at a convenient booth and assisting my parents with storing their walkers. Service was polite, friendly and accomodating, Coffee was strong and served in big mugs. French toast and pancakes were ok, not as hot as I would have liked. Varied menu. Nice decor.

I've eaten at 3 Squares several time and I think it's fantastic! The coffee is strong and delicious, the breakfasts are tasty and well-priced. You must try the banana pancakes! I've had delicious salads here as well. Nice up-scale atmosphere, great wait staff. Definitely coming back for more!

Had lunch at 3 Squares recently; it was my first trip and my mother's second trip. I had to twist her arm to go with me, so that should I told me something! The restaurant was almost empty, but seemed fairly dirty for early in the first shift; it was a bit surprising and off-putting. I ordered the caesar wrap, my mother had the ruben, and my child had the kid's chicken and fries. The food was mediocre at best; it was more like cafeteria food than restaurant food. And much to my horror, the chicken they served my child was old-looking, overcooked Perdue chicken nuggets. Gross and tacky. The waitress never asked us why none of us ate our food, which is poor service on their part. Hopefully they will do better as time goes on, but I won't be going in again.

I just came back from my first meal at 3 Squares. I had a breakfast - a delightful egg concoction - 3 eggs scrambled with bacon, sausage, ham and cheese - aka "The Highlander." It was prepared perfectly - delicious ingredients, served with very nice potatoes and toast. One of my fellow diners had the Eggs Benedict - he also rated his food superb. My wife had a western omelette - ditto. The food server was attentive and pleasant. There are 3 separate breakfast/lunch/dinner menus daily, also a Sunday Brunch. Not only was the food quality excellent, the portions were ample and the price was reasonable. The dining room was very pleasant - airy, not cluttered. Big Thumbs Up for 3 Squares.

I have been to 3 Squares four times since it has opened (three times for dinner and once for breakfast). The food has been wonderful - I have had the sweet potato ravioli, turkey burger with avocado, chicken and (I forgot what it was called) a wonderful french toast with sweet ricotta cheese, whipped cream and strawberries. Loved it. I have taken my children to 3 Squares twice and the best part about going the second time was there was no "negotiating" where to go. It was the top choice for all of us which made it very easy. A few last points: (1) Desserts are awesome (I highly recommend the Adams Apple and the pound cake with berries). (2) Jared waited on me three out of four visits and was a nice & attentive waiter (despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy and (3) the owner Aaron is a very nice guy whom I sincerely hopes succeeds in his new endeavor. He is very friendly, introduced himself to me on my first visit, inquired if I enjoyed the meal...Second visit I was surprised he remembered my name and again asked when I left if I was happy with what I ordered. I never thought I would be the type to be a "regular" at a restaurant but can see that happening here. Wishing Aaron and 3 Squares the best of luck and highly recommend to my fellow "Needhamites" and to others reading this to give it a try.

Two stars with reservations. I am not that picky with food. I have eaten dinner with my husband here five times since the summer. Fewer people seem to be here every time we come. We want it to be successful since there is a real need for this kind of restaurant in our town. We had high hopes that have been fading fast. The staff is very nice but the owner comes around too much asking how things are then talking about how the restaurant is in trouble and he might loose his shirt. Well that is sad, but does not make for a nice dining experience since making your diners feel guilty so is, well.. Peculiar. The food is okay to good for price but inconsistent. The pork chops and hamburger are good. Certainly it is better than Friendly's or the Chinese restaurant but not as reliable as Panera but with wait staff it is more expensive. Alcohol is a plus. The restaurant has hard surfaces everywhere so if it is crowded, you can't converse it is so loud. Last time we were there they started live music on Thursday. If the musicians had been any good and not amplified in such a small space... Well, you get the picture. So it's desperation time now and I think it may be curtains in a couple of months if things don't turn around. So go soon if you want to try it but not on a Thursday night! Blue on Highland is similar fare and a little more expensive but so much better. It's worth it.

Went there for lunch on a Friday around noon with hubby and 2-year old son. Maitre'd was very pleasant and offered us crayons and coloring sheet, and high chair. We were seated at a spacious booth and our waitress, though self proclaimed to be new, did her job well and was appropriately attentive. It's a comfortable place. Good AC, low noise level, no wait. We got the chopped salad, the truffled Mac n cheese, and chicken nuggets kids meal for the kiddo. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. It tastes as it should-the flavors are normal. You wont find inventiveness or creativity, but it is a step up from Bickford's. It's nice that you can get a decent meal here without having to drive very far. We got a takeout order to go, and they forgot to give us the sweet potato fries with the burger (as ordered). After we got home we also realized the kid never got his dessert as specified on the menu. All in all, we will probably be back because of convenience, but certainly don't go out of your way to come here.
