I've been wanting to try Smashburger since I drove by their storefront in October. I signed up for their email club and rec'd coupon for 1/2 off a Salted Caramel Shake, so I went in today for lunch. Had classic burger and substituted American Cheese for Aged Swiss and no onion. Excellent tasty burger. I also ordered their Smashburger fries and they were delicious. I didn't try the shake or any other beverage. They have Honest unsweetened tea on tap & provide nice lemon wedges. They also have other flavors of Honest Tea on tap and in bottles, as well as Coke products from the machine and in bottles. The menu said they had beer, but I didn't see any. The room is small with many two and four seat tables. The place was crowded and there was a wait for a table. There were a lot Smashburger staff there. Keeping the economy rolling...I will definitely be back and will try a shake then.

Sacrilegious to say it - but it's better than Five Guys in every way. The burgers are better, they have shakes (how does Five Guys not have shakes?) the fries are crispy and not limp, and the service is fast and right to your table. Great burgers, been there 3-4 times now and always found it clean and friendly.

Great first visit. Had the bacon cheeseburger with onion strings. Will return again.

Went to check out the new smash burger today for lunch. They were very busy, but disorganised. After I ordered a burger, fries, and onion strings to go, I surmised the wait to be 15 minutes. The burger and fries were good, but the onion strings were not. I wouldn't not go there again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

I think I'd have to take Smashburger over Five Guys. The burger was fresh and hot. They have better topping options. Any place that has avocado as an option wins. Sorry, Five Guys. Also, you can get goat cheese on your burger. I know! I've never had that option anywhere else either, and yes, I am unreasonably excited about it! The fries are fantastic. I've always been a fan of Five Guys' fries, but the Smashfries win because they have rosemary, and they were crispy. Normally, I get about five crispy fries in a bag from Five Guys. I got a plate full of them at Smashburger. Also, what's not to love about a burger joint where you can get an amazing milkshake (confirmed - shakes are normal sized portions for two people. Split one with a friend!)? Last but not least, they bring your food to your table. No shouting across the restaurant for you to come get your goods. Just sit down, relax, and let the food come to you. I love it.

Absolutely filthy. Dirty tables, dirty floor and dirty workers. Walked in on a Friday night for a to-go order and nearly broke my neck on the grease laden floor. Then watched another customer almost break his neck with more grease by the soda fountain. I didn't order a milkshake, but watched one of the workers make one. Holy grossness, putting the ice cream scooper on the filthy station top directly into the ice cream bucket and then coughing all over it. The food was decent but will not return due to the unsanitary and dangerous conditions.

Here we go again. Visiting another attempt at a "higher end" fast food burger joint. Does everyone remember Fuddruckers ?? Exactly .... Smashburger is pretty good. Shake Shack is pretty good. 5 Napkin Burger etc etc etc. In my opinion Five Guys does it better than all of these. There are just too many places trying to compete in the same space. I predict in 10 years only Five Guys will survive in this category. Good luck Smashburger. You will probably have a few good years and fade away just like so many before you. Your food is pretty good just not good enough.

Went to smashburger today while visiting the Natick Mall. It was our first trip and we liked that right when you walked in the door there were menus available to look at while waiting in line to order. It made the process move quicker. Once you order you grab a seat and they bring the food out to you when it's ready. The only bummer to this system is that my husband received his burger WELL before I did and, if he hadn't started eating at my insistence, it would have been cold by the time mine finally arrived. The food itself was very good. I had the truffle mushroom swiss burger -- the burger was cooked well done but it was still flavorful. My only complaint was the small amount of mushrooms inside. My husband had the bacon cheeseburger and liked it and my son loved the chicken tenders. The fries were very thin cut and delicious. Overall, fun, good experience and we'd definitely stop in again if nearby. However, maybe next time hope that we got our food around the same time!

Truffle Mushroom Swiss Burger with slivered fried onions. Got a 1/2 lb and loved every bite. Will get that again, with a fried egg this time. All three types of french fries were great - especially the smash fries and the sweet potato fries.

I got my order to go and I went with the Big Classic and an order of fries, the wait wasn't bad when they called my name the man was nice and told me that he put napkins and ketchup the bag and asked if I needed anything else. The burger was delicious, juicy fresh real hamburger nice bun and it came in a nice container not a wrapper. The fries are ok nothing special similar to the old BK fries but they did come with the Heinz dip and squeeze packet which is always a plus. My only gripe is that it was soo dam loud in there the server and I couldn't hear each other talk resulting in my burger not being exactly as I ordered it but I did enjoy it. The kitchen staff needs to stop putting on a show the unnecessary yelling back and forth, for that reason I would only do take out there I can't enjoy a meal in a loud atmosphere.

Just had a stressful Smashburger! Although the food was decent, the process was illogical. Granted it was a crowded Saturday evening but as you order and receive your dining number, you realize all of the tables are taken. As you patiently wait for one, individuals come in the exit or separate from their parties to grab a table although they have yet to order. So essentially you have to be cut-throat and play a game of musical restaurant-booths. I was with my family when I saw a table opening up near the exit, as I walked over a woman came in the exit to take the table. I attempted to nicely explain how we already ordered and were waiting for a table. She rolled her eyes and stomped off. I wish the restaurant would manage this with having a staff member helping with seating. Ok burger...but not worth the rise in blood pressure!

You cannot beat the burgers here. if I wanted a burger that is wrapped in paper and squished I would go to five guys. if I wanted a fake hamburger I would go to Burger King but if I want a burger that has real meat on a real bread with real cheese on real plate and real silverware and a real cup for under $10 then I go to smash burger enough said. Oh and their salads are huge too.

I brought my son here since he feels that he is a burger aficionado due to all of the burgers he eats off of kids menus. He said that THIS was the best burger he has ever had. He got the bacon cheeseburger with side of fries. I got the regular with cheddar cheese and onion straws. The fries reminded me of the now defunct (RIP) pomme frites at Sel de la Terre. Onion straws were kinds greasy and flavorless. Came with a dipping side that added nothing. We arrived at noon to find it pretty full, and new customers were frantically sending a pal to reserve a table while the other placed the order. Two burgers, two sides and two waters came to $21.

Visited Smash Burger with husband and 2 kids today while craving a hamburger. I thought it was outstanding and MUCH better than 5 guys burgers. I had the regular burger with whole grain bun, blue cheese, avocado and fried egg with smash fries (shoestring fries with olive oil, rosemary and garlic). My 16 year old son devoured his BBQ hamburger - faster than usual. My husband's spicy buffalo fries were excellent too. We shared a vanilla hand-spun vanilla milkshake was yummy too. The atmosphere was a little rushed and crowded - would have been nicer to have had a bit more space and something to subdue all the noise from the dining room.

Went the first weekend they opened. No fountain Cherry Coke or Rootbeer. Immediate disappointment. While placing our order, my husband was just about to order a malt/milkshake when someone came up behind the cashier and said they were out. I was barely 7pm. We got the classic burgers, the truffle fries, and sweet potato fries---sweet potato fries were the best thing. We tried again a few weeks later and got the bbq burger----couldn't tell there was any bbq on it. Could have been an amazing burger. The prices aren't awful, but overall I'm not incredibly impressed.

The cashiers and bus people were very friendly here. The tables were clean, lines were long but moved quite fast. The smash fries were delicious but the classic bacon burger stole the show. It's an hour and a half from where I live, but I'll be back!

Easily one of the best burgers I've ever had.

  • Brittany R.

I like this place a lot better then mooyah or five guys. The burgers are really good and fresh tasting and don't come with the usual burger place heaping pile of grease with a side of clogged arteries. The price is pretty decent and it's a plus that they deliver the food to you because the place can get awkwardly crowded! Speaking of being crowded, try and grab a table prior to ordering so your not a lost puppy freaking out you won't have a table before your order comes out. The fries are good minus their slightly awkward to eat being that their shoestring. Friendly staff, clean place, and decent prices = worth a shot trying out

Meh. The burgers are ok. the fries and rings are really tasty. A little pricey for what it is. In terms of chain "better fast food" I might put Five Guys above this. Still good for a quick burger without having to go to the Fridays or Cheesecake chaos.

  • Steve A.

One of the better fast food burger places you can go to. Much better than McDonalds, Burger King, or Wendy's. I prefer Smashburger over Five Guys, as well. Their fries are delicious and they offer a small beer selection if you eat inside. Easy menu with lots of customizable options for your burger. They also have non-beef options such as chicken sandwiches and salads. I would definitely come back if I was looking for something quick and filling.

I first heard about Smashburger when I was checking into PF Chang's across the street at the mall. I saw the word BURGER, and was immediately intrigued. Because we are a family who plans our day around meals, we made plans to come back to Natick the following day to visit this Smashburger place. As the name suggests, this restaurant specializes in burgers. But they also have chicken sandwiches, a black bean veggie burger, and hotdogs for the kids. I get the classic smash, my husband gets the create your own burger, and my girls get hotdogs. As for sides, they have french fries, and then they have something called smash fries, which are french fries with olive oil and rosemary. They also have onion strings with a tangy dipping sauce. We have had all three of these, and they are all delicious! They also have milkshakes. We have had the Nutter Butter milkshake, and the salted caramel shake. Both were very delicious, but we liked the salted caramel a little bit more, and we have ordered it a second time. The portions are nice for the price that we paid, and the food tastes fresh and made to order. The restaurant is a little small. We have trouble finding a table for our family of five, and when we do find a table, we have to drag a chair over so that everybody can have a seat. The restaurant also gets crowded at lunchtime on the weekends. One time, we were unable to find a table, and had to go back and eat our meal in the minivan. It was still delicious, but if you're not cool with that, I would recommend visiting at non- peak times. Have a couple of minor complaints. The first is that there is a $.99 charge if you want your child's drink to be a boxed milk or apple juice. It would be nice if there wasn't a surcharge for parents who don't want their children to drink soda. Also, they bring the food right to the table - which is great - but the food did not all come out the same time. On the plus side, this gave my husband and me a head start over our children the vultures. Smashburger has quickly become our favorite burger spot. We will definitely be back!

Not to bad..If you're expecting 5 Guys Burgers & Fries turn around cause it is nothing like them. The fries a shoe string which is Ok but they did not live up to everyone's hype...Burgers are burgers my 5yr old nephew can cook me a burger. To much ketchup on the burger.I did enjoy them bringing it out.The beast that was in the back seemed like he was a decent cook but definitely needed to get a sweat rag an handle business...Definitely not coming back but it's worth the experience lol

Healthy food. Clean restaurant. Friendly staff. Awesome experience from start to finish. Will travel again from Cambridge. Well worth it.

I really enjoyed my burger and shake. The fries were good as well but I'm not a huge fan of the shoe-string style. Just my preference. I would say I liked Smashburger better than Five Guys. My burger was less greasy and seemed like higher quality beef.

The good: - Burgers - Buns - Shakes - Space / design The not-so-good: - The fries (basically just frozen thin fries - yuck - Five Guys kills them on these) - The lack of a coffee shake (come on, guys. This is New England! Show you know the market you're doing business in) Overall, it was just decent. Five Guys is still miles better and a half a mile away A special note about the staff. These guys are some of the nicest and most proactive people ever. They constantly were coming by to check in/help/greet. Nicely done. Service and attitude was 5+ stars.

Much prefer the ambience and service to 5 Guys and Shake Shack (their closest competitors). The burgers are ok and so are the fries. If, however, they had the home made fries like 5 Guys, they would be at the top of the list, but they don't.. At least they don't throw the fries in a bag like at 5 Guys. The milkshakes and beer make them a little closer to Shake Shack. And you can get a grilled chicken sandwich and a salad as an option. The real question is, do we really need another hamburger joint concept? And how many milligrams of sodium and animal fat do we really need anyway? Maybe the next chain can be called Fat and Salt R Us.

  • Abby M.

They are SOO SOOO SOOO friendly here, and none of it seems put-on. Food was delish, loved the rosemary fries, the onion straws, and that you can make any burger a veggie burger. Had the salted caramel shake, I wanted 6 more. I would go back in a minute if I weren't still so happily full. Veggie burger was little smushy- should that be smashy? But delicious, none the less.

10 Times as good as FIVE GUYS: 1. Cool decor 2. Beautiful, well-composed, fresh food 3. They bring it to your table 4. Beer! 5. Incredible Milkshakes 6. Juiciest, most delicious Beef, Chicken, Bean Burgers, and Salads!! 7. Four types of fries 8. Whole Grain buns and Sweet Potato Fries = Healthier!! 9. Hip, nice and caring people 10. The taste...unforgettable

Wow. The hub and I stopped in here on a Wednesday eve, looking for a quick, cheap, and deliciously filling dinner. Smashburger totally satisfied all of the above. My husband got the classic smash and I got the chicken. The burger was comparable to Five Guys, but a little less greasy (and a little healthier tasting, which is a good thing for us). The chicken sandwich was AWESOME. I made my own with fresh avocado, cheddar, lettuce, and tomato. We also ordered the Smash fries which taste like the fries at Clover Food Lab; lightly oiled with salt, pepper, and rosemary. They were very good and almost a requirement if you're going to order burgers. We didn't get a chance to try the milkshakes, but they look amazing. They also have salads that look delicious. The place is sparkling clean, has a very good ambience, and service is great. I highly recommend swinging by here. It may become a weekly indulgence. P.S. They have UDI's gluten free burger buns for those with gluten allergies or gluten-free diets!

It's a smash! Love the quality and also great on my pocket. Burgers are great but also add sweet potatoes fries to our order. Don't be cheap on yourselves.

I was dying to try the new burger place in town. What a let down. I will start off with the good. The shakes and fries are awesome. The downsides, its expensive and our burgers were crap. The toppings were lacking and the patty was DRY. If you could take 5 guys burger and put it here, it would be perfect.

Usually I wouldn't write a review after only one visit and having that visit within the first week of a restaurant opening, but my Smashburger experience was very positive, and so I feel pretty safe in posting now rather than waiting for repeat visits. This restaurant, similar to other of the new burger places, has you line up to place your order. You then get a numbered plaque and sit down to wait for your meal. Though only very recently opened, and reasonably busy, the wait for my meal was fine. All the servers were extremely pleasant and attentive given this somewhat cafeteria model. I ordered the avocado club burger, one friend ordered the truffle mushroom swiss, and another friend ordered spinach, cucumber and goat cheese burger. We all ordered the "big" size and found that more than satisfying (and one of us is a "healthy" eater). We also all agreed our burgers were very nicely seasoned with all add-ons being very fresh. The Smashfries were well prepared, and not greasy at all. (And I, personally, prefer the Smashfries very thin shoestrings style.) I suppose it's a matter of taste based on other reviews I see hear, but I would take this over Five Guys any day. The burgers just tasted better and nicely sized, and, as noted, all ingredients, including the bun, just seemed very fresh compared to what is offered at FG. And the fries at FG, which, when served to me with a paper bag, were notable mostly for the large grease spots on the bag. Not the case here at Smashburger where food was served in nice metal basket with a clean liner. I was certainly full after the meal, so not sure I could fit one in, but will make the attempt at another visit to try one of the Haagen Dazs milk shakes.

I went for lunch today to Smashburger in Westwood. All the empty tables outside were not cleared. All had trash and flies on them. All the tables inside were cleared but none were wiped down. I had to get napkins and water to clean one. I ordered a burger with no onions (I hate them!), and it came covered with onions! I had my numbered order card at the end of the table clearly facing the area where the orders are picked up and delivered to patrons at tables. The woman shuffled (slowly!!) by me 3 times (I didn't know it was my order) and she even went outside twice. When she finally delivered the order it was ice cold. I had 2 bites and decided to take it home (my husband will eat anything). I asked the man at the counter for a to-go container and he rolled his eyes and had someone in the back bring one to me 5 minutes later! The glass entry and exit doors were beyond disgustingly dirty. You could barely see through them. I came home and scrubbed with soap. Yuck.

New, nice decor, clean & friendly service. Burgers were tasty, well seasoned. You order at the cashier and they bring the food to your table when it's done. They also clear away your tray when you're done. I like this place better than Five guys. Reasonable prices.

Decided to try this place out because of the high Yelp reviews and wasn't disappointed!! We ordered for pick-up & it was amazing. Definitely will come back whenever I'm in the area!

New kid on the block! Giant burger wuth the all American toppings. Fries with rosemsary, garlic and olive oil. Laid out cafeteria style, but more congeneal than most burger joints. If looking for a new burger ecperience, check it out.

Burger joints seems to be popping up everywhere these days, so why go to Smashburger? These folks honesty care about the product they are serving. The staff are quite attentive & friendly, plus have knowledge about the all the offerings. This chain takes it up another level without getting to high brow. The prices are fair & justified for the fresh product they serve up. The menu is nicely varied from offerings with goat cheese, truffle oil, chicken to black bean burgers & don't forget to add that fried egg. Don't knock it until you tried it. All new burger establishments should serve adult beverages. I am an adult & nothing go better than a great burger then a ice cold brew. Having local products is quite nice & trying to really integrate them into the menu without being forced. The seating areas are nice & inviting. The choice of booth, stools or chairs is quite nice. This Denver based chain should have little problem gaining traction in New England as long as they maintain the quality of not only the menu but the staff. Now we need a location in Boston proper so I can take the T to get my burger on!!!

The burger was burnt, my french fries only half filled the cup and no one seemed to know what they were doing. In speaking with others who have been there multiple times, they are inconsistent at best. Sometimes great sometimes terrible. Not sure I want to try again to find out what it will be like next time.

  • Michael S.

This burger place is absolutely delicious. I'm usually the person to get things plain like I hate ketchup, mustard, pickles all of that so I of course got the plain burger. Which was delicious I greatly enjoyed that place and can't wait to go back!

  • Geoffrey R.

Excellent hot food. Truffle burger with mushrooms and Swiss was delightful with added bacon! Truffle flavor really kicked it up a notch over competition. Price was fair. Large size. Rosemary and olive oil fries were the thinnest kind, so very yummy! Only fault was the flooring... It was slippery and I imagine, unnecessarily dangerous. Will return often. Service provided for bringing and removing food from table. You order and sit down, food is brought over to you.

Basically, as far as the chain, premium burger joints 1) B. Good 2) Shake shack (very close behind) 3) Smashburger (a good bit behind 1 & 2) 4) 5 Guys Not saying at the right place and time I won't visit 3 or 4, but I'd probably do a lot better to cook up my own before going to Smashburger. Good for bringing kids though.

  • Nancy T.

Yum, tastes like real beef - maybe with a hint of grass fed- when ordered plain. I had half a burger with cheese, lettuce, and tomato, then has to go back and order another burger they were so good. I'm a little tired of shake shack, though I loved that place too the first couple of times. It's on par with them I guess though the atmosphere at shake shack is slightly cooler.

I enter Smashburger with my companions craving wildly a chocolate shake. This one single shake was keeping me mentally stable through out the day because I knew I would receive it at this Smashburger, but that wasn't the case. Not only was I disappointed but the cashier man was rude when giving me outrageous news. Their workers had decided to become lazy right when I walked through the door because they couldn't clean out the shake making tin cup thing's. I went to my next resort of happiness which was the veggie fries. It just so happened that they were downheartedly out of them. I was lost in the sad moment and ordered just plain fries on their own. The fries were tiny little things that were meant for little tiny babies, not for me. A man that worked their did explain to my acquaintances and I about the situation of the shakes, but nearly after I heard the news of them not being available, I saw one being created right before my eyes. It was quite a disappointing visit that I had visualized as being perfect hours before. What a shame Smashburger, I'm going to stick to Shake Shack.

This place is great. I've been there around 5 times in the last couple months and only gotten the burgers so far, but they're top notch. They're not very greasy, and have a good variety of different types of burgers. I'm also a big fan of their fries. The smashfries are very tasty and my first choice, but their regular fries are good too. Service is good their too, they're all personable and quick.

Cheap, fast and extremely well tasting burgers. Super delicious seasoned fries. They only use Angus beef. Friendly and attending staff!!!

This place is going downhill quickly...we ordered for a bunch of us at work. My onion strings (which were, at one time, delicious) were soggy, super greasy and under-cooked. My chicken sandwich was a sloppy mess...the chicken itself it of decent quality but the bbq sauce was loaded on, dripping everywhere, and the cheese wasn't melted. I am SO disappointed...especially since the prices reflect what should be a GOOD meal! Yuck...don't waste your money. At least not at this location.

    (2)
  • Steve X.

Very average in terms of similar burger joints (I've had better, as in Tasty Burger or Shake Shake). Don't get the onion rings. They were all greasy, cut way too thin and all stuck together. Not sure if I'll return.

So completely and utterly blah. Actually worse than blah. The service was indifferent, the food really nondescript and forgettable and the place just heartless and soulless and blahhhhhhhhhhh. The black bean burger tasted sooooo wrong- like a baby's mushy oddly colored poopy diaper kinda wrong!! TMI! But it was soooo bad!!

Just opened a few days ago, so I don't blame them for the disorganized mess that it was. However, the burger itself was awful. It's amazing to me that their whole concept is smashing their burgers flat, which is exactly what your not supposed to do to a burger. What your left with is a dry, tasteless, incredibly salty burger with terrible toppings. I got bacon, a fried egg, cheddar, and ketchup. I can honestly say I couldn't taste one of these toppings. The bacon was salty, as bacon is, the egg was overcooked (should be runny yolk on a burger), and the cheese was barely there. It was not much different than eating hot beef jerky. This is clearly supposed to be competition for Five Guys. I find Five Guys to be overrated. This place is just awful.

    (1)
  • Rich L.

What to say about smash burgers...I got the smash cheeseburger w fried egg and smash fries. The burger was very good the veggies were fresh and with the sauce it was a good balance of flavours. But what I noticed is not too much grease that dripped all over the place like 5 guys. The smash fries were very tasty. I also had the vanilla shake which I thought matched up with what I thought was the best shake Ben N Jerry's...sorry BnJ fans. So when u order they give u a number and bring it to your table nice touch. For all you peanut allergy ppl who want a good burger place and not worry about peanuts and peanut oil in the air ahemm(5 guys). The place needs more seats which is my only complaint but I was there on sat night and it was packed . But that's a good thing it shows that they have a good product worth waiting for.

    (4)
  • Allison D.

The burgers were good ( better than 5 Guys). The French fries were yummy but way to thin. The shakes were not worth the calories, and I love shakes. The food was served quickly and the staff was nice. The restaurant is clean but small. If I was in the area, I would definitely go again.

Excellent burgers. good service a bit pricey but expected. Not as good as fuddruckers or shake shack but pretty good. I will be back.

  • D T.

Meh... says it all. I wanted to like it, but everything fell short. I opted for a bacon burger with lettuce, tomato, sauteed mushrooms, onions, and cheddar cheese. The burger was bland but very salty and very greasy. About 3/4 of the way though, I abandoned the bun as it was just sopping with grease. The herbed Smash Fries are a great idea, but again were largely devoid of flavor. My strawberry milkshake tasted strongly of butter fat, and only faintly of strawberries. Like I said, I wanted to like it far more than I did. I have to give the nod to the 5 Gentleman up the street.

One of many mid-scale burger places springing up lately. Burgers are a little better than 5 Guys, about the same as Shake Shack. Fries are shoestring style, very good...about as good as Shake Shack but not as good as 5 Guys. Overall, decent place for a fast burger and fries.

  • Ari K.

Excellent food, excellent service! The cook even stopped by to see how we were doing. One possible complaint would be the lack of a coffee shake. 5/5!

OMG! Delicious. Get the onion strings and the snag fries. The snag fries are reminiscent if the ones at the Nordstrom cafe but these are so much better. Burgers are seasoned well and moist. Yum! I'll be back!

  • Steve R.

Their classic smash burger was good, Meat had a nice texture to it. Salted caramel shake was very good and shared by two but I wish we each got our own. Not sure I like putting Olive oil on french fries. I do understand it's two very different oils but still that seems redundant and a caloric overload. Service was fast and friendly

Great first visit to Smashburger! Loved their burgers, fries- rosemary & garlic- yum! and shakes. Great addition to the area. Their burgers aren't super thick, juicy burgers but they get the job done. I like that they bring the food and drinks to you and clean up after you. Kind of reminds me of Fuddruckers a little bit. -1 Star for Haagen Dazs ice cream in their shakes. I wish they had gone with a smaller scale ice cream vendor and I'm just not really a fan of Haagen Dazs.

I root for the little guys and the local guys. Not that Smashburger isn't a chain... it is... but it's new and the small business owner gets my vote until I have a reason not to... I got a haircut around the corner yesterday from Smashburger and have wanted to try a burger there since it opened. It's a strip mall location which can be challenging for restaurants so I was interested in what I would see when entering not having been to a Smashburger before. The restaurant was JAMMED with employees and all the employees were kids. I would guess there were at least 12-15 employees in the restaurant at the time with approximately 5 customers in the restaurant. Most of the kids were probably training but clearly there were more employees than jobs to do. I was a kid and had a job in a restaurant as a kid. Kid's are fine but it's REALLY hard to find kids who are GREAT in the service industry. A balance of adults and kids usually helps and having a manager with a customer facing presence is always a good idea. The checkout process was fine. I placed my order to go. Burger and fries - no onion on the burger. While I waited I watched. One employee got his own food for break and ate at a booth. Most of the employees were talking to each other but they were enough employees to make sure progress was happening. As I walked out, being somewhat of a cynic (as you can tell) about service I literally imagined writing a yelp review that included "After I took the onions off my Burger that was ordered 'no onion', the food was solid." I nailed it. I ate in the car and after having the Smashfries, which were good. Rosemary, thin fries, crispy and hot. I opened the burger (the plastic clamshell is actually too big for the bag) I had to pull my onions off first thing. I checked the receipt to see if the order had been taken correctly and it had... No Onion. The burger was good. Meat, bun, toppings... all good. I would say the burger seemed a little healthier and less greasy than 5 guys but it wasn't a "drive across town for it" burger. At the end of the day, while some may say "Gimme a break"... something like this experience makes or breaks a restaurant. Owners must take every minute of every day seriously and go above and beyond to ENSURE the customer experience is top notch - to survive. The world has plenty of burger places... you have to stand out. The pizza place in my town that opened about a year ago seems to have chosen the same path. They opened with many low-cost young employees and the service there was really sub-par. It seems that the pizza place has taken cues from customer feedback and augmented their staff to ensure a higher level of service. Again, it's not that kids are bad... but TRAINING and monitoring are huge if you have a young work force. I write all of this hoping the owner sees it. I want them to be successful. Perception is reality. An order being correct and a professional service staff are bare minimums that should happen with 100% regularity. Going above and beyond this where you start to try to win raving fans of your business. Bottom line the food was good. I would go back if convenient. I would love to see a manager's presence and receive a correct order the next time I go. Cheers

Start off by comparing it to it's obvious rival, five guy. Five guy is a really "juicy" burger it literally is dripping, this burger is dry which is not a bad thing. It was a little tastier than 5 guy and i did not get the gross feeling an hour after eating. edge-smash. it's not mind blowing or anything but it's a quality burger on the expensive side, $7 for just a "large burger" it was a little bigger than a whopper. i guess they don't take phone orders or internet orders which is a bummer. I doubt i'll stand there again and waste 7 minutes of my life. Rethink this smash. good burger, no call in means i'll probably never return.

Went there for the first time today. Good burgers, fries, onion strings. Fast service, clean, good staff. Will return. Plus the burgers weren't dripping oil all over the place.

It's as simple as this: If you're looking for a decent greasy burger, this is a totally viable option. I don't buy into this "Fresh, Smashed, etc, etc" jargon. It's a hamburger. A reasonable hamburger. Greasy and satisfying if that's what you're looking for. That's all.

First time at a Smashburger. My opinion- Smashburger denotes the way they smash any flavor out of their burgers to leave you with an overcooked, dry tasteless mess that, from a taste perspective, most closely resembles a spongy mass of forgettable food. If their sauce had any flavor I couldn't taste it. Five Guys, Wendy's, Burger King, even McDonalds have much better burgers. That being said their fries are phenomenal- shoestring type fries prepared to excellent crispy goodness, Also had a vanilla shake made with Hagen Daz ice cream- really really good. So burgers NO but fries and shake a resounding Yes.

By far the best fast food burger out there. Great bun, good meat and toppings as you expect. The rosemary fries are out of this world and the oreo shakes are very good.

Possible the worst hamburger to be found outside of a McD or BK. Overly salty and otherwise tasteless flat patty on a soggy roll. The veggies placed on the burger were better than anything I've seen at a fast food joint, but that's just camouflage. This place is an overpriced fast food burger joint with sad fare. Go elsewhere.

My kids love it... I think it's a rip off.. burger is good, shakes are obviously tasty... But walking out paying $26 for myself and a kid burger with two shakes... Not worth it... Unfortunately I will be back... My kids like it..

This place was awesome. Went here with a hungry toddler when the wait next door at Zaftig's was a 1/2 hr for lunch. By the time I'd filled three big plastic cups with water, three staff people were at our table with food for me, my son, my husband and my parents. Everyone thought everything was delicious - I got the spinach cucumber salad with cranberries and goat cheese - seriously, it was one of the tastiest salads I've had in a while, never mind just at a "fast food" place. My son ate his whole grilled cheese sandwich in record time. Even though we were slow and semi-confused when we placed our orders at the counter, the staff were super nice and patient and helpful. The milk shakes were super delicious. I can't emphasize enough how fast the service was - I think if we'd gone to McDonalds we wouldn't have had food that quickly, never mind that the food here was a million times tastier & better quality than that.

Love this place. It's a fast food joint with a chic twist - like Rosemary flavored fries!! Good burgers, good service, awesome fries and decent prices.

Burger was very tasty, much better burger than the completely overrated Shake Shack and obviously of much higher quality and less grease then Five Guys. Glad to see the CA special sauce on burgers is making it's way out here. I got the smash fries, which were very good, I'm a fan of the thin fries, it's nice to have something different once in a while. Over all I thought this was better than other Shake Shack and Five Guys, but Lee's Burgers in Newton and In-and-Out on the west coast still are better!

Fell in love with Smashburger on a trip to California- have waited patiently for them to come to MA and they finally did- the Natick, MA location is as good as all the others- great burgers, fries, shakes, and great employees, too- I'll be a regular- so long FiveGuys- it was fun while it lasted-

My new favorite burger place. Went there over the weekend with my husband and he loved it too. The burgers were tasty and the service was fast and friendly. Had a mushroom swiss burger with sweet potato fries. My husband had the same burger but added bacon. They were delicious. We also ordered a strawberry shake which was great. We especially liked the fact that they bring you the shake in a nice tall glass and give you the extra in the cup they made it in. The prices were also very reasonable. Highly recommend this place. Light years ahead of five guys greasy burgers and lousy service.

Took my 2.5 year old there for our monthly mommy/son dinner tonight. They took great care of us! Food was great, and we got to share an old school shake in the pedestal glass with the extra on the side in the metal shake cup. Blew my little boy's mind when we finished the shake, and there was more as a surprise! We will definitely be back with the whole family! Family of 3 can probably eat with shakes, sandwich and fries for @$30.

We were excited to try this spot. We really wanted burgers and were in the area so this seemed perfect. It was pretty crowded, mostly kids and parents. The menu looked pretty solid, enough attractive toppings for burgers so we were excited. We both ordered burgers,a classic and a custom with smash sauce. We got the smash sweet potato and regular fries, and a chocolate shake. Everything tasted pretty good, but we both felt terrible after. Not sure that I will be going back as I haven't felt that bad after eating 5 guys or any other burger chain.

$20 for 2 SMALL burgers & a few fries (not very good either). REALLY ??? Had the Avocado club & the truffle swiss; good flavor but too small. VERY LOW bang for the buck !!! What's for lunch? Five Guy's have got them hands down !!!

Good burgers which makes sense. But in an overcrowded hamburger world they don't stick out. Fries are good but a bit pricey. The efficiency and teamwork seems to be holding them back

Well seafood wasn't in the cards and an early dinner left me wanting more. A chain restaurant wasn't what I had in mind but a Smashburger sounded good as we don't have in Indiana (have been to in Chicagoland). Very tasty overall...Five Guys meets Steak and Shake meets In n Out meets 96th Street Steakburger. Market getting crowded. Great vanilla shake.

My teenage son thinks this is the best place ever so I gave it one more star than I would have. I thought it was ok but not great. I had the black bean avocado burger and something was seriously wrong. They need to work on the consistency. I know it's not a real burger, but it was basically like some kind of paste, like a big pile of mush between bread. I'd never order it again. Stick with the real meat if you can.

This photo is not photoshopped or touched up in anyway I have multiple witnesses to say that they saw my chicken burger with the number on it. This owner has contacted me to apologize when I have nothing to apologize for. Posting a simple picture of the chicken I order from this establishment should not be replied by the owner including a threat to get lawyers involved. It is not my fault that I got my food cold with ink on it. My previous review has no lies in it at all and the fact that the owner is trying to get me to apologize and remove my review for something I haven't done is simply ridiculous and uncalled for

I went to this place twice this summer, both visits was great experience to me, place was clean, waiter/casher was friendly, most importantly their food was great, I ordered classic smashburger and smash fries. Burger was fresh and served fast, normal size, very tasty. To me, this place is better than Five Guys, much better than Burger King/Wendy's. Must try smash fries! Best fries I have ever had, actually the second time I am back for those smash fries. I will be there again.

It pains me to say it a little but I have to say this is kind of a run of the mill burger place. It's good. Can be really good, depending on what you're looking for. They have a lot more gourmet-ish options that other chains like Five Guys just don't offer. The burgers are bigger than Five Guys and more expensive. Don't get me wrong I've enjoyed everything I've ever had from here, and wouldn't hesitate to go if I was craving a burger in Natick, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, and you won't hear me raving to my friends about that one mystically good burger I had at Smashburger. Also worth noting is that Smashburger CAN have more of a healthy bent, if you're so inclined. They have tasty veggie stick- fry things that are good and different bun options and healthy alternatives, but let it be known that just because they project a semi-healthy front doesn't mean the burgers aren't still loaded with calories, especially if you're ordering a specialty burger.

This place is all hyped up. I've been here a few times but its always medicore with a side of blehhh. The staff is annoying I tell them exactly what I want and they ask me if I want something else. Really? Can't just listen to my order? I got a chicken sandwich which was so thin (smashed I guess) I could've read the newspaper through it. The piece of meat also had some weird piece on it that I wasn't sure was safe to eat. Gross. After the sandwich I was still hungry. Gah. Also the milkshakes are one size only and either $4.29 or $4.59 depending on the flavor you chose. The picture posted of the shakes is laughable. They definitely come in a tiny plastic cup with no silver can extra. Such a disappointment. Never coming here again.

Ordered veggie black bean burger, smash fries and a vanilla shake. This is one of the few places in the area that has the skinny fries and they were great, if a bit greasy. The shake was delicious! Super thick. The veggie burger was dismal, would not order again. It was just a lump of black beans mushed into a patty, no other veggies or spices/herbs/flavor etc. Very disappointing. The service was excellent and everyone was helpful and friendly.

**rolls over on bed, grasps for key board-- types with one finger at a time** I didn't realize I was capable of such delicious misery. It was a simple order really. After coming here for a Yelp event the next time around, I knew better. Just a burger and smash fries for me. A safe, small order-- or so I thought. In actuality my stomach betrayed me and ordered a large smash burger with a ton of extra toppings, ( most of which were free, but if you order over 5 of lettuce, tomato, pickles, ect, they ring it in to the register a bit differently price wise so make sure you pay attention) and smash fries which are tossed in a salty garlicky rosemary blend. I popped a squat at one of the cute booth tables and played around with my number cue card as i patiently quieted my belly grumbles. Then at last the smiley waitress drops off my burger and fries. Fun fact: the larger sized smash burger is not worth it. It'a a lot bigger but the bread stays the same size, which is annoying. Also fun fact, the bacon bbq burger is amaaazziiiiinnngggg. The BBQ sauce has cranberry infused in it making it this sweet complement to the thick and salty bacon strips on top of a juicy burger and fluffly plump bun. The smash fries were hot and delicious and shoe string style so four at a time if the perfect vehicle for all my ketchup needs. After devouring said meal I tried to just get up and leave. I really did. But the booth seating and the waitress who so frequently came over and asked if she could get us anything else really got me thinking about those shakes. Thick and sweet the salted caramel was calling my name. So I succumbed ( you have to go back to the register for ordering extra things, but the waitress still brings them to your table) and boy did I not regret it. Salty crunches of pretzel with sweet caramel served in a glass mug and a silver cup filled with the extra makes for a milkshake and a half. So worth it. Few additional details: - Smash burger is a chain with a local twist for most of its menu items - it's fast food with added table service but no tip - the sell beer, cider and wine - Try a milkshake. Just do it. thank me later. - They have a truffle and mushroom burger for like 7 bucks. If truffle is your thing, try it. it's pretty appetizing. - The salads are huge and they use sliced tomatoes on them which is not my style, but to each their own I guess.

My favorite chain restaurant burger place (unless there's an In N Out in the area). They have great food. The smash fries and hand-spun shakes are my favorite! A little pricey for fast food, but it is worth it.

  • Jeannette L.

The milkshakes and fries were good, but if I remember correctly, the fries were extra, it was not included as part of the burger price. The burgers however, were yuck. They tried to be gourmet with the different filling and style of burgers, and that was interesting, but what I expect out of a burger, and a place that concentrates on selling burger is juicy, high quality patties. The patties are paper thin, and depended heavily on the spice instead of high quality meat to make it taste passable. Will never go back.

A really solid "meh". For a place looking to hire "friendly" staff, they have a lot of work to do. I went in at 11:30 before the lunch rush and had one person in front of me placing a large order. There was one cashier, two girls behind her going between making milkshakes and staring vacantly off into space, one guy bagging up orders, and another guy trying really hard to impress the rest of them, but avoiding working at all costs. After about 2-3 minutes of the person in front of me placing her order and the cashier asking for help entering it into the POS, a line was forming behind me and the guy bagging food started asking his cohorts to man the other register and take orders. He asked at least three times and each time he was met by the vacant stares and open maws of the three other unoccupied occupants that I can only assume worked there. I was finally able to place my order after the person in front of me was done, no thanks to the rest of the staff. I said what I wanted and only had to repeat myself once. I gave them my name and of course the misspelled it. It's not even a hard name, and what they wrote could barely pass as a name. The food took several minutes to prepare. I got it to go and drove back to my office which is a few minutes away. When I was finally able to masticate, I found that the burger was soggy and drenched in sauces. I say sauces because there we clearly two different sauces and the burger I ordered only advertised one. I say soggy because pieces of the bun were tearing off and sticking to my fingers. GROSS, but I've had worse. When I finished there was a yellow and red pool of disgusting at the bottom of the plastic food container that the food came in. The fries were cold and soggy as well, but still somewhat tasty. This is the second time I've been to a Smash Burger, both at this location. My second trip reminded me why I didn't like them after my first trip.

Five Guys...Shake Shack...now Smashburger! I was really craving Burgers and a Shake so I decided to try Smashburger. Smashburger: Simple but quite nicely done. I'd say it's much better than Shake Shack but I think those who like "hardcore" burgers that can hammer you with flavor, Five Guys' burgers are still better. I choose Smashburger because I like simplicity and less oily burgers. Buns were great, mushrooms nicely done, cheese nice. Angus steak, nicely done. Nothing really to complain about. SmashFries: So this is where I got sad :C I absolutely love the flavors of Smashfries which are Rosemary, Garlic and Olive Oil. They taste absolutely awesome and are better than Shake Shack and Five Guys in terms of flavor. Unfortunately, the downfall is that they are CUT SO THIN, which is a huge turn off. Milkshake: I had the strawberry milkshake and it was very nicely done. Actually it was better than Shake Shack because the milkshake was still cold and thick. Nice flavor and simple taste. Yay calories! :D Overall, I would want to give it 5 stars because the place is very clean and employees are super nice. I simply can't because I care as much about French Fries as I do about Burgers. I also like thick french fries. Though SmashFries had amazing flavor, it just didn't hit hard enough in my opinion as they were sliced so thin. I'd recommend Smashburgers for families and also like simple friend eat outs or really just to people who want to have a nicely done burger meal. Not cheap but it's definitely worth it. I also did not left feeling uncomfortable or really full which I do sometimes with fast food meals/joints, such as Five Guys.

I wanted to love this place. And the first time I came I really 100% did - it was so drool worthy I couldn't wait to come back. Unfortunately, the past couple times I came the quality has gone done dramatically. The burger combos and fries are really good but the burgers just aren't as juicy as they should be. I do love that they source as many ingredients as they can local. Their bbq sauce is so good adding cranberry to it! I am not a vegetarian and never order out that way but their black bean burger is out of this world. It is flavorful and not dry. I don't usually order chicken sandwiches out either but their chicken sandwiches are so flavorful. I really hope they bring the quality back up to the opening week. The salted caramel shake is amazing. They also have a couple bottled beer options.

Very tasty burgers. This trend of "fast casual" is here to stay. Service this night was top notch. The New Englander burger is alright. Not into the "Thanksgiving" theme burger but could be great for others! My personal favorite is probably the bacon bbq and the truffle burger. Note: they probably use truffle oil and not real truffles but that's already some classy shit. I hear they're opening up other locations closer to Boston proper.

I went here last night 7/24/14. This review would be have been three stars but one thing really grossed me out. You can see into the kitchen and one of the linecooks with long brown greasy hair removed his hat, itched deep into his scalp for about 30 seconds and then went back to cooking food. If your hair is almost to your shoulders you should be wearing a hair net when cooking people's food. So friggin gross. I'll never be back solely for that reason. The food tasted alright until I realized there might be additional ingredients in my burger (FLAKES) If you go, just don't look inside the kitchen.

I had a wonderful experience at Smashburger today! First and foremost it is incredibly clean. Second, ordering is foolproof and the options, mouthwatering! I enjoyed the Truffle mushroom Swiss burger and an order of the Smash fries (they're sprinkled with rosemary!) Both were amazing, the perfect temperature and delivered to my little table promptly. I was even checked on mid-meal and an employee insisted on clearing my tray when I finished. I will definitely be back to try one of the grilled chicken sandwiches and the sweet potatoes. Love this place!

The burgers and shakes are very good. I prefer the burgers here to Five Guys, but mostly because I love the fried onions they have as a topping here. They also have beer and hard cider here for the adults and Honest juice and Horizon milk drinks for the kids. The service is nice too. Put in your order at the checkout and they'll bring the food to your table, if you're eating in. The space is well-decorated. There are caddies with salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard and napkins on the table.

It hurts to say it, but it has to be said: there was really nothing redeemable about the Smashburger I had. Beef was flavorless, toppings were flavorless, bread was flavorless. I don't understand how a gimmicky place like this competes against Five Guys, Tasty Burger, and Shake Shack around, nevermind the endless local places with great burgers. But then again, Guy Fieri's still around and kicking...

Tried it today for the first time. Ordered the large (1/3 #) with the standard fixings as well as small fries and soda. The restaurant was clean and the service was friendly. I was glad there were booths and the music was not overly loud. The meal was delivered to the table which was nice. The burger was tasty but very messy to eat and dripped all over the paper as well losing some of the fixings. I needed a lot of napkins and my hands were all sticky! The shoestring fries were tasty but overcooked and therefore hard. I may go back but 5 Guys has a much tastier burger even though it is not as comfortable and the music is too loud at times.

Smash Burger makes a great burger. The french fries cooked in olive oil and seasoned are delicious. Pricing is good for what you get. Service is friendly, place is clean, and their system is fast. Burgers were cooked exactly as we asked for. Try a burger here. You will enjoy it.

Move over 5 guys.. There's a new Burger King in town! As a lover of all foods I was so excited to try Smash Burger! Lets cut to the chase. The burgers are juicy but lean. Mixed with mouth watering topping, creamy milk shakes and hot salty fries it's a modern day Johnny rockets. The fried pickles were delicious also. A must try.

Ahoy Yelp community! Sorry I haven't been out on the road lately, I'm not able to travel much anymore because of recurring health issues. (Don't worry, I'm fine!) I'd like to talk to you about some local places I've been experiencing (not always enjoying) lately. Smash Burger! What a provocative moniker. Well, I was looking to "smash" my hunger demons and the name called to me... So this is one of those "high-end" burger joints, that have been popping up lately? Hmmm, not really. I'm a guy whose enjoyed $200 burgers in Vegas. THAT is what you call high-end grub! These Smash Burgers are only slightly better than the stuff handed out the a drive-thru window. In fact, places like this (and Five Guys, etc) are giving the big players (McDonalds, BK, Wendy's, etc) trouble. Let's talk business briefly. The big players sell their regular burgers at very low margin. They depend on their high-end items to generate most of their revenue. And here comes places like Smash Burger offering high-end meat products/solutions minus the loss leader of a cheaply-made hamburger. With that out of the way, onto my actual experience. I ordered the Classic burger, Smash fries, onion strings, and a large shake. All of it was good, but for me, "good" isn't always good enough. Don't come here and expect to be stuffed full of food. The regular burger looked to be the size of a regular McDonald's burger, so make sure you order a large, or two (or three). The onion strings were overdone. The fries were good. I actually devoured them before I got into my tiny, little burger. The best part of the meal was the milkshake. That says it all.

Great staff, great service and food was fast and fresh. This is probably one of the best locations I've ever been to considering I travel all over the country. I recommend the truffle burger with sweet potato fries.. quick tip. Try them tossed in olive oil and garlic you will not be disappointed. Thanks for the great service smashburger team 8:00 pm on 8/22/14.

The burgers are decent, I tried the smash fries, shoe string size but tasty. Very similar setup to five guys but what sets them apart are the shakes. I recommend the butterfinger shake.

Finally got a chance to give this place a try. So sad I waited so long. The food was great! Fresh, healthy choices and you don't leave deaf from blasting music or smelling like a fry cook. Looking forward to trying the other selections on their awesome menu.

Came here with some friends after reading and hearing about. Had the BBQ,cranberry, Cheddar Burger. It was OK to me everything is the same as five guys. The fries here though are way better. If u like a good greasy Burger this is the place. It's average on taste but OK. Nothing to rush back to. Many better Burger places around.

I came here with my family and we got some burgers and the smash fries. It wasn't that busy and the restaurant was so filthy. The floor was wet and gross and there were so many pieces of food and crumbs. I got the Jalapeño Baja Burger and I was unhappy with it. Not enough guacamole, the jalapeño had all of the seeds left in it, the bun was rubbery, and the beef was so dry. I was disappointed because I had high hopes for such a cool looking place but for a burger that tastes good I'll be going back to Five Guys.

The place slightly under manned on my visit with the family. We arrived around 5 pm on a Saturday. We ordered two smash burgers and a hotdog meal for my child. We struggled with no success to find a clean table. Sure they were cleared off, but you could see grease and small bits of trash and food underneath. We took the lesser of the evils and further cleaned off the table of choice. 5-10 minutes later my daughters hotdog and fries arrived to the table, 2 minutes after, come the burgers. The child's hotdog is pretty large, at 6-2, 212; it was intimidating to me. It was served on a butter grilled bun and the wiener looked to be sharing time beside it too. The hotdog was served with a large portion of crispy shoestring fries. The burgers looked enticing, butter grilled "sweetish" buns with a deliciously seasoned patty. It was topped off with a fresh piece of green leaf, fresh tomato and red onion. The smash burger comes with the smash sauce. I removed it from my sandwich, but it is a saccharin mixture of mayonnaise, thousand island and paprika. I'll definitely visit again.
