Love the Lantana Cafe! Like the first poster said, fresh food well prepared, and reasonable prices. I often get the mushroom pasta, which is homemade and heavenly; my partner reliably goes for the cod/salmon/swordfish, and is never disappointed. Now they take credit cards as well!

I haven't been here in a long time. I went several times in the first couple of years after it opened, and although the food was good, it was just too chaotic and crowded for me. This was before they expanded into the building next door, so there was just the front room which was always full and nowhere to wait. So it fell off my radar screen, even though I live only a mile or so away. Perhaps I'll give it a whirl again, based on the mostly positive reviews here.

Hubby & I went the Lantana Cafe last night and were very pleased! Pros: 1) Jackie, our waitress. She was pleasant, knowledgeable, and friendly. 2) Mozzarella bruschetta. So fresh and flavorful! 3) Tuscan chicken special. Really really tasty. Great crispy prosciutto. Lemoncello-marscapone cake. So light and refreshing. Great end to dinner. Cons: food was a little slow. There was a nice gap between courses, but things that shouldn't have taken long (drinks, desserts) took longer than expected. Grilled chicken came out much later than the ravioli it was ordered with. Overall, good food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. We'll be back and can't wait to try the pizza!

Do you like linguini and clam sauce? Yeah? Well so do I and I've found my go to place to get it. LC is a quaint local restaurant on a busy street that you could drive right by and never really notice. Beer and wine only which can be a bit of a downer but the food makes up for it. My delish pasta dish had the choice of red or white sauce. Gotta go white when you go baby clams in my opinion. Can you say tender? They were the filet mignon of shellfish even after I just reheated them the next day. Can't say enough good things about the food. I've been told they rock a pretty good pizza especially when you have a pizza oven on the premises.

Pros: Friendly staff welcomed us in like family, didn't rush us out the door, nice selection of Italian dishes ranging from staples to more unique dishes, cozy atmosphere, reasonably priced, accepts credit, serves beer and wine. Cons: parking could be tough at times, small dining room so not good for big groups. Overall lovely experience and the food was good. Shrimp fettuccine was creamy and had a nice buttery taste (defiantly not low cal), pesto tortellini was on point, chicken cacciatore was just okay, and the lamb shank was juicy, fatty, and fell off the bone (wish the sauce had more flavor though). We also had a complimentary salad and bread at the table. Wish they had freshly shaved Parmesan. Would come back for another family style dinner and try more of the seafood and pasta dishes.

literally the best meal my girlfriend and I have ever eaten in our lives. wow!!!!!! I had the Tuscan chicken special and my mind was blown. My girlfriend had the rolled eggplant and the stuffed grape leaves plate. Both also absolutely amazing as well. If I could afford to hire the men that cooked our meal to cook for us for every single meal, I would!!

MUST GO HERE. Lantana is one of my favorite restaurants ever. I've been coming here since it was just a tiny room before they broke the wall down and expanded into the business next door. I took my roommate here for "some sort of pasta dish" as was her request for her birthday dinner. We were not disappointed. We ordered a bottle of Il prosecco first and our waitress brought us some of their famous bread and olive oil which we ate all of immediately. I got chicken Marsala and my roommate ordered Fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken. They brought us a Caesar salad on the house which was a very nice surprise! Our dinners were both DELICIOUS. We ordered a slice of the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious and I can't say enough good things about Lantana. It is a fantastic restaurant that everyone needs to try.

Not a very good experience. The menus were dirty the tables were dirty it was freezing in there The waitress was clueless she didn't know if was Tuesday or breakfast not to mention the funcky smell when we walked through the door. All in all terrible we will never ever go back. Terrible experience

Not sure what everyone is raving about. Got the NY steak medium and it was tough and overdone. Some of the vegetables were still frozen. Place settings were dirty, table was sticky. On a Saturday night at 7PM, only three tables were seated. The bread was good, the prices were low, and the server was nice, but the food was just not good. I'm definitely not coming back.

A++ for service by Jackie and our meals were beautifully presented , to die for delicous and hearty. Plus, I have food allergies, and am always safe when I dine there. The homemade gnoccis and chicken, lamb, and shrimp mixed grill were incredibly delicious. We have been there a few times and each visit is worth the trip. You feel at home in their restaurant. It's our favorite new spot in Medford. Thank you for treating us so special. Lantanas does everything right!!! Try it soon.

As a Medford resident, I was looking forward to trying other establishments in the area, and was really happy to score a good groupon deal to check out Lantana Cafe. This is a nicely run restaraunt with good food, friendly staff, and extremely dark Italian decor. Think blood red walls, chandeliers, dark wood furniture, etc. They seem to like a warm, rich ambiance, which is a little odd for the neighborhood. However, if you don't mind that this inflates the prices, it's still very much worth a visit every once in a while. On the night we dined out, we were first greeted by complimentary garlic flat bread, which was warm, toasty, and delicious Instead of the traditional olive oil for dipping, they add a buffalo-like sauce to the oil, which seemed a little odd at first, but was surprisingly good. I really enjoyed my pumpkin ravioli in cream sauce with cherries It was flavorful, generous, and really hit the spot. My husband liked his seafood linguini dish, which came with a ton of muscles. To end the night, we had tiramisu, which was tasty, but could have benefited from a stronger coffee flavor. All in all, if you want good Italian food without having to travel far for it, but don't mind slightly high prices, Lantana is a good choice for Medford.

Ambience: cozy Service: attentive and friendly Food: a bit oily (spicy chicken) but overall delicious. I had the baked lamb shank and french onion soup. Overall a cute and satisfying local spot.

Other yelp reviews had led us to give Lantana Cafe a try and I'm glad we checked it out! The environment had a comfortable and warm feel, although sitting by the door was a bit cold. Parking was plentiful. Staff was friendly. Food was delicious! The flat bread had some cheese sprinkled on it and the dipping oil had garlic and hot sauce splashed in (which made for an interesting touch). I ordered the pumpkin ravioli with cranberries and it came in a sweet cream sauce (which I worried might be a little too sweet, but it was actually perfect). My guest had the chicken marsala which was also a bit sweeter than typical marsala, but was still tasty.

I love this restaurant! I has amazing food. I've yet to find something I don't like on their menu. The mussel appetizer and pumpkin ravioli are my top favorites. I'd highly recommend a visit here.

Sara and I stumbled upon this place by accident without knowing anything about it and we and ended up having a great meal. We were looking for something good but also affordable which this definitely was. I started with the special french onion soup which is usually pretty standard so I wasn't expecting anything spectacular but this really surprised me, it was one of the best french onion soups I've ever had! The waitress was good, the meal didn't take a particularly long time to come out plus we were chatting so we didnt really notice. For a meal we split the traditional cheese pizza which had a very unique but delicious flavor. The sauce was a little bit sweeter and the crust was just perfect. We both got a glass of wine which was a pretty standard price and it was decent. The only complaint I have was that it was very, very hot in the restaurant but with the crazy temperature changes around here I'm going to guess that had something to do with it. I would definitely recommend this place!

This place is just amazing every time. Been coming here for years, and I've never had a bad experience. The restaurant is cozy and intimate; great ambiance. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The food is superb! Pumpkin ravioli is to die for, and the fradiavolo, chicken Marsala, seafood risotto is unreal. The food is fresh and always very, very tasty!!!! They now serve breakfast and brunch, and it is the best around. Definitely a top notch dining experience!

Love this place! The potato gnocchi was absolutely fantastic !! The pumpkin ravioli was fine.. a bit too sweet and thick and tasted like an Indian dessert, so a few bites of it was enough.... One of my favorite restaurants in Boston for sure..

I came here last year when I was in town for a convention, and I've been waiting all year to come back. I had the pumpkin ravioli, and it was blissful and decadent. My carnivorous friend gave me the grilled veggies that came with his steak, and I have never enjoyed vegetables like that. It really is a wonderful place. And they're on restaurant.com so you can even try them out a little cheaper!

Unfortunately, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. For about $20 a plate, I would recommend spending your money absolutely anywhere else than this place. We had a reservation and a party of 4 for Mother's Day. I purchased a Groupon and decided to try this place out because it is nearby and it looked like a good deal. I called on Friday to confirm that I could use the Groupon and was informed that it "wouldn't be a problem". Even though we had a reservation, they stuck us in the front room in the window where it was 80 degrees from the sun beating in, not to mention the room was filled with heat and smoke because we were 10 feet from their open kitchen. First, we were presented with only 3 menus. My mother did not receive a menu at all during the duration of our stay. We got 4 glasses of water that literally had white specs floating in them, and all of the silverware was dirty. My grandmother asked for bottled water and they did not have bottled water. The only thing they could offer her was a sparkling mango Poland Springs water bottle or a $7 Pelligrino. She just went thirsty. After all, I will admit that the food was decent. We were, at this point, satisfied enough to let the other inconveniences go---- until I tried to use my Groupon. The waitress told me that the staff "all should have known" that we couldn't use it and nobody should have told me it was okay. We were never confronted by a manager or a shift leader or anything, and this poor waitress was put in the middle between mediating between our table and whoever she was speaking to in the kitchen. In the end, my $50 Groupon went to waste and the bill was $130 on top of that. I would strongly urge anyone to reconsider their decision when looking into going to Lantana Cafe. After the endless lack of cleanliness and unprofessional behavior that we were presented, I am confident that this was not a "fluke" experience.

Lantana graciously accommodated our party of 23 on 4hour notice. We set up a family style menu that included appetizers of Calamari - scampi & marinara & grape leaves that were scrumptious. The pasta dishes of Porcini ravioli and linguini with clams were fantastic. Our secondi of chicken cacciatore & veal Marsala was absolutely delicious. Dessert was toped off with tiramisu that was out of this world. Lantana is a little gem in Medford with great service and a quaint Mediterranean Italian atmosphere

I dined here with my family for a birthday party last Saturday night. First off, what a hidden gem. The service was excellent, with the waitress refilling our water on cue and bringing out our food right after we had finished our appetizers. For the main course, I had the chicken piccata which was fantastic, followed by the chocolate mousse cake which was probably the best desert I have had in many years. All 10 guests enjoyed their food and the service. Prices are very reasonable. What a great restaurant. We will be back for sure! If you like smaller, more intimate settings similar to the north end, this is the place for you.

Lantana is amazing! I moved to the boston area about a year ago from providence where there is amazing food at every corner. Sense then I have searched for a great breakfast location. Literally trying every place and being disappointed until I went to lantana. I have never had a disappointing breakfast there. My meal is always the homemade hash, blueberry pancakes are out of this world!! Very pleasant place and the owner is great! I recommend this place to anybody who appreciates good quality food and doesn't have a problem waiting for fresh homemade breakfast.

Lantana is a local gem. Awesome food and the friendliest wait staff. The mussels, gnocchi, and seafood pasta are my favorites.

  • Mer D.

I go to Lantana about every week or two and the food is consistently good. One of the things I really appreciate is that they will make the entrees with olive oil instead of butter (I have a milk allergy) so I have a much wider variety of meals to choose from. The garlic bread made with olive oil is excellent, as are the several desserts that I've tried.

Just came here on a polar vortex evening and I am glad I did. The fra diavolo was spot on and warmed me up just right. Seafood galore and the sauce had just enough sweetness from the mussels and just enough spice. Glad I found this gem right in Medford, my hood. Oh yeah bruschetta was finga licking good too.

Like others, I had a Groupon and saw decent ratings so I decided to give this place a shot. All of our food was delicious and the service was great. Our waiter even brought us a complimentary salad since part of our table ordered soup and the other part didn't. Cheap house wines ($7) and pumpkin ravioli (on of my favorites!) For downsides, there was a bit of delay in handling our check. It's like they totally forgot about us once we had a bill. Also, the atmosphere is super adorable, but, i'll admit, gets cramped (with A LOT of running/screaming children...not the restaurants fault on that one...though). I would definitely give this place another try!

Their food is extremely good. We've eaten here numerous times and have never been disappointed. Their bread and dipping oil is even fantastic! Portions are large and I think it's very well priced. The place just needs a serious face lift inside. Fresh coat of paint, new window treatments, new light fixtures and some other sprucing up. It's atmosphere just brings down the experience a bit. That and a new website and I think they'd do even better. The food is worth it! We also order take-out from them every so often and it's always ready on time, very hot and always accurate. All in all it's great Italian food and very affordable!

I have to say, I'm so disappointed! Perhaps it was the Groupon deal (which I didn't know about until entering the restaurant) or a bad night or just my bad luck but my experience at Lantana Cafe was just terrible this weekend. My partner made reservations for 8pm on a Saturday to celebrate my birthday and have dinner before going on for the rest of our evening. We admittedly arrived 20 minutes early to a crowded restaurant and we're happy to wait outside, even though it was chilly, because nothing was available and the entryway was so cramped, we didn't want to intrude on the diners. We headed back in at 8 and watched as people were seated ahead of us, some of whom I don't think has reservations. That said, I'm unsure so I'm not using that in my rating. We were finally a seated around 8:15. Once seated, we were offered the chance to wait more for a better table, but at this point we just wanted to order, since we had plans for after dinner. Service was slow, but eventually our waiter came over. We were prepared to order - we split the Caprese salad, he ordered the mixed grill and I ordered a special, chicken pesto with tortellini. The wait between courses was long, but not ridiculous, just long, making me with I'd eaten the bread. The Caprese salad was fine, nothing to write home about. Finally, after a lengthy wait, our entrees arrived. First, his entree - the rice was steaming hot, but the meat and vegetables we're lukewarm. But he was hungry so he ate the dish. My plate is acceptable chicken, in a plate of oil with overcooked gnocchi - not even remotely what I ordered. After several minutes of trying to flag down the waiter, I took a few bites, to see if I was okay eating this instead of what I ordered because I was so hungry. It was not palatable. The waiter came by, I explained I ordered the chicken pesto withy tortellini, he said that's gnocchi. I said I know it's gnocchi, I ordered tortellini and so on, like and Abbot and Costello routine. I finally asked for a copy of the menu, which he brought me. Never did he offer to return the dish or apologize. I checked the menu, saw that I was not crazy and, since my waiter was no where around, I went in search of a manager. I explained what happened, she checked the menu and said sorry, I'll have it made it. I said no thank you, as at this point we've been there for over an hour, my dining partner has finished his meal and I'm headed somewhere else. She offered it to go and I explained again, I'm going somewhere after this, as it's my birthday celebration so I can't take anything to go. She walked away at this point. I returned to my table, feeling uncomfortable, as in the small of a space, everything could hear me complaining. Several minutes later my waiter returned with a bowl of tortellini - again, not what I ordered AND what I clearly said I didn't want/ I said no thank you, my dining partner is done and we need to leave. He offered to wrap it - I explained that I was leaving to go somewhere else and could not take it with me. And can you remove the charge from the bill and give us the check? He returned with the check with the entree still on there. I got up and once again walked through the tightly packed restaurant to ask that the item be removed from the check. After some back and forth it was done. It was just an unpleasant experience from start to finish and, I hope, an aberration, since so many reviews seem so good.

So I had a groupon and saw the 3.5 yelp stars and figured the gf and I would give it a shot. Probably should have passed on this one. When we got there we were seated. I looked around, and several lights were out. Not a big deal, but goes to show attention to detail. We received the menus and mine had a huge red wine stain on it and was ripped. Our server was new and not trained at all. We ordered a bottle of white wine and she did not even know how to open it. Another server had to come and do it. The wine was warm and we were told that since it was so hot outside that the fridge could not keep up with it. That would have been fine, if they brought us water and ice, but I had to ask for that and set it up myself as they brought us 2 glasses of ice. Server also forgot to bring bread and sauce (Once asked, it was brought over. Sauce was nice). We ordered mussels as an app. They tasted ok, but seemed to be closer to the sunset of their life than fresh. GF ordered lobster ravioli. It was average at best. More sauce than pasta and it was not great. I ordered the veal marsala. The veal was quite nice and cooked perfectly. The best thing by far that night and saved the review from being a 1 star. Pasta was slightly overcooked. Overall, just not that great. What a shame!

I've been to Lantana's twice now for dinner and was quite pleased both times. They put out a GroupOn every once in a while and that's how I found about them. I thought it was a good deal. The quality of the food was great and the restaurant itself is quaint and cozy. The second time I went, I ordered the steak tips. A few minutes later, the waitress came back and apologized but said they were out. Really? Out of steak tips? Oh well, I ended up ordering the pumpkin ravioli and being glad they were out of steak tips... it was awesome. I highly recommend the pumpkin ravioli if you go in season!

We had a decent experience the first time dining here (2014). The food was good, the service was prompt and courteous. The delicious dish was the pumpkin ravioli - the others were just OK. Second time there the food was so-so and the restaurant filled with smoke apparently because something happened in the kitchen. The third time (June 2014) the salmon was overpriced ($28) for the modest portion we received, and it was dry and overcooked. The chicken florentine was bland and unappealing and also rather pricey - didn't eat more than a few bites. The pumpkin ravioli was delicious again, and the service was good. But we had enough of the overpriced and mostly unappealing food (not to mention the smoke), so we won't be returning here.

Never had a bad meal here. I tried it first with a Groupon, but love to go on the regular now. It's not "fancy" even though they try to be, but I love the atmosphere. It's the only place I go if you live along this strip in Medford.

The food was GREAT! Pumpkin ravoils and the spicy chickent where very good. The only have wine here, it would of great to had a martini but netherless the food was good! Only con is the service, our waitress was nice but she forgot to add something into my meal! Its a small place maybe they just had two waitresses? I'd still want to try it again!

Great service: check Parking: check Attractive, roomy interior: check Great food/drinks: check. Fair prices: check I mean, there are other good Italian restaurants but they usually have some big flaw that makes you never want to go there again. This place does everything else right *AND* has good food. I may up my review to 5 stars the next time I go, but I didn't try enough things to be able to rave. The pasta puttanesca is awesome, though. And the lemon sorbet in a lemon skin was a perfect ending.

What a great discovery!!! My family and I are huge Italian fans and have yet to find a restaurant better than that of our good friends' place. Well we found one!!! This place has fantastic food in a quaint, warm establishment. You have to try the parmigiana sauce with spinich ravioli; it's AMAZING!! We also tried the porcini ravioli and Marsala-- all so delicious! Ravioli is most certainly homemade. The bread that comes with your meal is more Mediterranean but yummy! This is a must for places to check out around Malden.

Wow! What can I say? I'm not from Boston so when my boyfriend and I saw the cute outside of Latana, we decided to give it a try! The wait staff is superb and super friendly. Out waitress was Cheryl who told us she was new, but we probably would never have known if she hadn't said anything. She brought some delicious bread to the table that was shaped like pizza slices and had a unique olive oil dip to go along. We also ordered an appetizer of garlic bread, which let me just say, was heaven. My boyfriend and I both got the Fettuccini Alfredo which was absolutely amazing! All-in-all this little whole in the wall is to die for, and you must stop in if you ever have the chance.

I can't say enough about this place. When it comes to restaurants, I'm super picky about food quality and customer service (though I am never one of those "customers from hell." I keep my mouth shut and take it out on Yelp reviews instead). That being said, as soon as we walked in, the hostess and server seated us in a quaint dining area, kindly introduced themselves, and promptly served us our drinks. Then the bread and garlic dipping sauce came. DELIGHTFUL!! The bread was tasty and crispy in just the right places (and it came with endless refills), and the sauce consisted of olive oil, lots of freshly-crushed garlic, and a few drops of what appeared to be Frank's Red Hot. Holy moly was that tasty. We ordered the Fried Artichoke Hearts with garlic sauce as an app (yes, we love our garlic, and they don't skimp), and it was seriously amazing. The hearts were not breaded (thank god), just deep fried and crispy, and the sauce was outstanding. My boyfriend ordered the eggplant parm, and I ordered the porcini mushroom ravioli. Once again, our tastebuds' worlds were rocked. I've never had a more delicious Italian dish in my life. Seriously. The alfredo sauce was perfect....the mushroom ravioli was delectable...and my boyfriends eggplant parm melted in our mouths. I've been to several places in the North End, and while they were fantastic, this place actually beat them all hands down. I don't say any of this lightly, and if you look at my other reviews, you'll see that I don't go nearly into depth the way I do on this one. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Also, my server was totally on top of things. VERY attentive, in just the right way. Never let our drinks go empty, checked in just often enough to ensure our experience was wonderful. Can't wait to go back.

I've been to this establishment before. After my second visit however, I will not be returning. Ordered calamari and there was a piece of hair in it. The waitress took it back and brought back a salad (compliments of the chef). Grocery store packaged shredded carrots on a gourmet mixed green salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted peppers with balsamic drizzled on top? More like an insult from the chef. I cook too. If you are selling yourself as an Italian establishment, instead of those packaged shredded carrots, go all Italian and replace it with buffalo mozzarella or something. I'm not done. Golden rule: Fish and cheese together is a sin. How do you bake fish with generic marinara and mozzarella? It's inedible and for a fact, not something you'd find in Italy. I didn't order lasagna. French fries... They were soggy, uncooked and swimming in the oil they were fried in. How do you mess up French fries?! It's so basic... But seriously, how?! What drove me crazy is that the place wasn't even packed and there was service staff just sitting there doing nothing. They didn't care to check up and see if you need something to drink. Our waitress was great (yes, the one positive thing I have to say), however the owner/chef needs to reevaluate his culinary skills. Truly dissatisfied.

Please, ignore the 3-5 star reviews!!! It's a scam! Not worth It! Not worth my time right now either. This restaurant is the worst experience ever. I usually write no reviews but this place got to me and also to my bf. everything about this place is wrong, and the service is making for it. Worst service ever! very rude staff who's trying to find excuses for their mistakes, plus giving attitudes, very unprofessional. I'm surprised groupon is selling this, very surprised. I wish everyone who goes there writes a review after, that way you will know this place is not worth a penny. What a shame! P.S. you' ll wait forever to be seated ( even with a reservation), barely get any attention when u wait at the bar and...you' ll get ur appetizers in the same time with ur course dinner. Enjoy! Conclusion: A very messed up place!

The food was really, really, really good. I had the seafood fra diavolo and it was delicious and a TON of seafood in it. Really, really good amount for the price I would say. My boyfriend had ravioli and the sauce was outstanding. The only complaint I have was about the soda of all things. He got a diet coke with one refill and we were charged $6 for that. What's that about? Who charges for refills on soda, and $3 each??? If it weren't for the soda thing I would have given this 5 stars. Definitely going back... just not ordering soda.

Decided to visit this restaurant on a Sunday evening for dinner with my mother-in-law as the other Italian locations nearby are shut. We called to see how long the wait was and were happy to have done so since they would be able to seat us in 15 minutes. So, the evening went flawlessly. The food was top notch. My mother-in-law was really pleased with the toasted garlic triangles provided with our drinks. The bread and oil was yummy. The complimentary salad was wonderful. I had a fantastic lamb shank. My partner had Pasta and my mother-in-law had shrimp scampi. She made several comments about the extra shrimp and how you never see this in some restaurants on Cape Cod. We even decided to stay for dessert. Choosing one Tiramisu and and one Cannoli to share, we were even more pleased to see 3 small cannoli shells with fresh cream. The Tiramisu was the winner of our taste test. The price of this meal with the wine wasn't cheap, but it was a delicious meal for everyone. Service was attentive and friendly. I would surely recommend it.

I have been meaning to write a review of Lantana Cafe for years. I LOVE this establishment. My husband and friends have been going here for years. We have never had anything here that we did not love!! The pumpkin ravioli is just amazing. The salads, the bread, the chicken marsala, I could go on and on. The service and atmosphere, music and chefs are all wonderful. Prices are what one would expect from an establishment of this type.

Yum! I have been a few times for take-out. I highly recommend the Chicken Marsala. Everything I have tried here has been delicious.

Lantana is a regular dining option for my boyfriend and I. It's small, quiet and cozy. To begin your meal, the waiters bring you a basket of flatbread and oil. But it's not just any flatbread and oil...it's amazing. The flatbread is thin, crispy and warm, seasoned with what appears to be baked carrots, garlic and a combination of herbs. The dipping sauce is an olive oil with a center of Louisana style hot sauce, topped with crushed garlic cloves and some herbs. We literally dip anything and everything that we order in the oil, it's that good. In terms of food, we have never gotten anything we did not like. You can tell the chef puts a lot of time into each dish, making it unique. For appetizers, we LOVE the pumpkin ravioli but also alternate with the hummus, rolled eggplant, bruschetta or caprese salad. We try a different meal each time, usually off of the rotating specials menu. Portions are quite large and enough to be shared. We never pass on dessert. They are amazing--it is literally the best tiramisu we have ever had. Words cannot even describe it. The chef told us that he gets the desserts from a company in Cambridge. Last time we were in, the walls had been repainted and the decor was spruced up. The waitress also told us that they are starting to serve brunch on Sundays, so we are looking forward to trying it.

I wanted to like this place, but as the meal went on, I got more and more frustrated. Good selection on the menu, and a decent variety in price points. There were several things on the menu I wanted to try. I ordered a pumpkin ravioli app, my wife ordered a salad. The only dressings they had for the salad were vinegrette or Caesar. The pumpkin ravioli was really tasty, and if I go back, I'd get that as my meal. Very flavorful; the sauce was a bit heavy for me. For my meal I ordered chicken parm, my wife got the mushroom ravioli. Hers had a very similar sauce as my appetizer, but the sauce seemed even thicker. I was disappointed with my chicken, it was really tough to cut into. We ordered Tiramisu for desert, which was tasty, but way too small a portion for $7. Service was also a challenge. It got busy around 7:30, and the wait staff was stretched thin. It took longer than we would have liked for our main courses to come out, and service after that slowed to a crawl. It took over 5 minutes to bring us the desert menu after asking. When we got the check, I put in an extra $20, and asked for it to be broken so I could leave a tip. The waiter returned with 2 $10s, while I was expecting $10,$5,5x$1. I thought that would have been common sense (for a waiter), but what can you do. Heading into the main course I was giving the place 4 out of 5 stars, but with the delays, minuscule desert portion, and just overall frustration, It dropped down to a 2.5.

Nice hidden gem in medford. I live down the street and never noticed it. Very delicious and unique Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. They both complement each other. Priced reasonably for a fine dining experience. My girlfriend and I had appetizers, meals and a bottle of wine for around $80. But we went overboard with food, and loved it.

Cozy and intimate are two words that best describe this italian bistro/cafe. It holds about 12 to 14 tables in two small rooms with excellent decor and a small bar area. The kitchen hits you right in the face upon entrance. Service was polite, respectful and very well trained. The food was excellent. It had a unique spin on traditional Italian. Definitely worth the visit.

We've been meaning to go here literally for years. I'm glad we finally did this snowy evening. I have to say, that I had a bit of trepidation as we walked up and the chef was leaning over the bar talking on a cell phone, and a bit more when the menus were a little shabby. But that all went away as our waitress was warm and friendly. She was quick with wit and always there when we needed her, even as the restaurant filled up around us. The wine was delicious and priced well at $7/glass. The "house bread" was a flat bread that was a little bit pita-like and very tasty with good tooth feel. The dipping sauce that accompanied it was flavorful and had a kick. Our friend Tim had the tortellini and it was very good. Andy and I both had gnocci but with different sauces. My sauce was a little flat, but Andy's was perfect. We split a tiramisu and it was good, but not the best I've ever had. I think we will definitely be back, despite it being nearly $100 for three on a week night.

Probably the slowest kitchen service for a not very busy restaurant I have ever experienced...meal took forever to arrive. This should never happen at any restaurant, let alone a small (maybe 10 tables) neighborhood restaurant that wasn't even very busy. In addition, staff attitude is unfriendly. Also, we had a very hard time ordering plain salad with balsamic vinegar on the side. Amazing how this request was difficult for an Italian restaurant (balsamic vinegar is from Italy). Salad came out with light oily dressing and no balsamic vinegar. After re-requesting balsamic vinegar, a serving of mixed balsamic vinegar and oil came out about 5 mins later. Mind you, this is about 45 minutes after ordering our food. Upon re-request, about 5 mins later, another waitress brought the same oil and vinegar concoction. Finally, on the third attempt, a waitress brought plain balsamic vinegar! Of course, the original salad, oil and all, was basically finished by that time. Other food was OK taste-wise, but overpriced for what it is.Too bad as it would be nice to have found a good restaurant in this area.

I have been going here for years. The owner is one of the nicest people I have met, he makes you feel right at home. He knows how to run the perfect business. On a couple of occasions where it has gotten busy, he has sent over complimentary salads to our table. The food is exceptional. My favorites are the pumpkin raviolis and the shrimp scampi. The bread you get before your meal is delicious too with the dip! It is very different. The ambiance is beautiful too. Dark red brick walls and it is nice and cozy. I am lucky to have it right near my home! Def. worth it!

We live around the corner and this is the second time we've been here in 3 years. Service is good. Ordered the steak medium rare, came to the table well done... replacement was medium. Everything a bit too buttery. All of this is tolerable. Worst thing was the filthy salt shaker (something had been spilt on it and never cleaned) and extremely dusty shelf directly next to my head. My husband saw dust floating in our drinks (perhaps from the glasses). Overall: Meh.

Another positive experience at a local food establishment! Dining in Medford is becoming almost as popular as making fun of Mayor Menino's voice! (Ok, not quite.) Food was great. They had a "special" menu for Valentine's Day. My only knock against the place was that the options were a bit scarce. However, this is understandable and people would certainly be complaining about the wait time if they opted for a full menu. You can't win them all! Service was okay. I'm in a kind, loving, mood because of the holiday and full-house. Under any other circumstance, I would've been as frustrated Tommy Menino trying to pronounce "Mississippi" without stuttering. We've been here before and the experience has always been postive. Lantana Cafe has a bit of that North End feel without the prices, bad parking, and incomprehensible line outside Mike's Pastry. If you're looking to try something local, give Lantana a try. It won't disappoint. Manga!

Went to Lantana Café after reading some very favorable reviews. Made a reservation for two and gave it try. The place looks good from he outside. There was ample on street parking nearby. The seating area was dimly lit. The restaurant has two rooms; one adjacent to the kitchen and an adjacent room with about a dozen or so tables. We were seated right away but we had to request a move because the overhead heating vent was blasting on us We moved to another table next to the large plate glass window which looked like it hadn't been cleaned all winter. There was gray film from top to bottom. There were no tablecloths on any of the wood tables, which looked like they were never polished. The waitress was pleasant and gave prompt attention. Food came out quickly but got mixed reviews. My wife's chicken cacciatore was quite good, but my chicken parm with ziti was overcooked. The chicken was tough and the ziti was falling apart. Two sodas and a glass of house wine came to $12.00. Sounds high. Finally, after paying our bill, my wife reported that the bathroom had nothing to dry hands. Electric dryer not working and no towels. We won't return.

I used to live right around the corner from this restaurant. I was quite surprised when I went in; its a modern, quaint space. The menu has a strong selection for dinner and the food is always consistently very good. The pasta dishes are cooked perfectly down to the grilled chicken with rice pilaf and roasted peppers. The cook is always around and is very cordial. It is nice to have someone appreciate your business. This is a great little gem tucked away in a random area in Medford but worth it!

I don't know what it was that set it off, but I drove home that afternoon with a craving. Don't ask my why, but I HAD to have Chicken Parmagiana. I just moved to Medford and I know it's crawling with Italian restaurants, so I figured there had to be one with a halfway decent Chic Parm dish on the menu. So after scouring Yelp and throwing a cry for help up on the forums, I found a nearby restaurant that actually had a website (you'd be amazed how many still don't), confirmed the desired dish was on the menu, and off I went to Latana Café. It was actually within walking distance from my apartment, but parking shouldn't be a problem if you're driving there - just park on one of the residential side streets (there are no restrictions in Medford). The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing - two small dining rooms, one with a bar separating the restaurant from the open kitchen. Service reminded me of a Alan Greenspan report before Congress - they did exactly what they needed to do, they did it well, and they did it with absolutely no life or personality at all. I think the hostess said three words the entire time, and maybe we got five out of the waiter. Regardless, we were promptly seated, our order was taken and brought to us in a timely manner, and our water glasses and bread basket were always full. In regards to the bread basket, this is where the review starts to get good. They serve a basket of steamy-warm pita break baked with garlic and herbs - mmmm, it's good. And it's served with a dish of oil and chili pepper - a very nice touch. We skipped appetizers, but our main dishes came out very quickly. My chicken parm was satisfactory. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but I won't hesitate to order it again the next time I have a psycho craving. My friend's dish, however, is worth noting. She ordered the duck, which was very good - tender, juicy and cooked to perfection, served with dried cranberries over a wonderful sauce. However, the duck came with a side of pumpkin ravioli, which were nothing short of amazing. It was like a semi sweet pumpkin pie served in a perfectly cooked ravioli. And the sauce wasn't too sweet or too creamy like I've had before. Oh, they were amazing. Latana also has the ravioli on the menu as an appetizer, and I have a feeling I'll be stopping here on my way home from work for some pumpkin ravioli in a takeout container rather frequently. An hour and a half later we stood up to leave with full, content bellies and leftover chicken parm under my arm, after paying a bill that came to $40 even. Granted that we didn't drink, but I still think it was a good deal... One more thing I'd like to note - although we didn't drink, the wine menu looked very appealing. It was a decent sized list, mostly Italian wine, almost no wine I recognized (which means it's not coming from the local distributor or package store), and almost all between $25 and $40 per bottle. I love unique, affordable wine at restaurants.

We live just a couple of blocks from Lantana Cafe... which is why we go there. Otherwise, I wouldn't be drawn by it. It is a place we'll stop in somewhat regularly and have a glass of wine. Sometimes we'll have dinner there if we want to stay local. The food is typical Italian fare. They have some pastas and some meat dishes. You can get basic grilled steak/chicken/fish and veggies/rice if you are looking to save calories. I've had the lamb - it was fine. The braised beef ribs was better, but really salty. My husband usually orders the steak and they seem to have a hard time figuring out how to cook it to medium-rare. Usually comes out medium-well. Lantana is fine for what it is - a local place with a decent menu. Service is unexceptional as is the wine. The house wine varies depending on what they have open so the quality can vary quite a bit. The background noise can be quite loud if the place is full or there is a lively group.

This place is a hidden gem of a dream. My friend introduced me to this place and I've been coming here over and over. I've brought my dates, brother, and whole family again and again. The ambiance of this boutique place is very inviting and romantic with posh drapes, exposed brick wall, mood lighting, etc. The place seats about 20 at most. It's very cozy. The food is absolutely amazing. From their exquisite bread , freshly steamed mussels cooked in its own juice, to awesome fradiavolo seafood pasta. I have to note, their risotto is subpar (overcooked & mushy). But I forgive you completely. I live in NY now and I miss this place even more. The entrees are $12-20. I've seen places with subpar food at double the price. I love you Lantana Cafe.

In a word: Excellent! It's a small restaurant that's nicely appointed inside. The staff were very friendly and the place smelled delicious. Everything about this meal was great; the freshly baked bread, our appetizer (steamed mussels), we had the veal marsalla and the chicken cacciatore; desert was chocolate bomba - it was huge and big enough for two. Their coffee was very good too. It was a tad pricey - 19 for an entree...but it we used a gift certificate (25.00 off from restaurant.com ) so the total was about 64.00 including a 20% tip). We dine out quite a bit and aren't often as pleased as we were this time around. We would definitely go back here!

We chose to stay local and have a low key dinner last night, and Lantana turned out to be the perfect choice. It was a little early on a Sunday night, so they place was not very busy and we received great service. I instantly fell in love with their bread basket and (unlike other reviews) found the addition of hot sauce in the olive oil to be the perfect accompaniment. I was in the mood for a little bit of everything, so I decided to stick to their appetizer menu. We split the bruschetta, which was also amazing. For my appetizer based entrée I had the rolled eggplant and pumpkin ravioli. All I can say is wow! Both dishes were delicious on their own, but the way they balanced each other together was outstanding. My boyfriend had the chicken parm which was average. Hey, you can't knock them all out of the park. The prices were also good. My only complaint was that one of the sharp screws under the table snagged my jeans. Luckily I was not wearing one of my more expensive pairs, but I was still a little disappointed with how the waitress handled the situation (happened in front of her and received a small apology). Just a little warning to watch your knees while dining! We will definitely be back for another good meal!

I live in walking distance to this place and never thought such a charming place would exist in Medford, especially this part of Medford. And the only reason why I even gave this place a standing chance was because I received a $25 gift card... lol AND I'm SO GLAD I finally went. We went here for dinner Friday evening - what a pleasant surprise to walk in to a flaming, upbeat kitchen. The menu was definitely Italian, Mediterranean-esque. We started off with soup of the day, which was the chicken vegetable soup and we shared the spring tapas, which comprised of a crab cake, fried artichoke, and seaweed salad... thought it was an odd combination, but it worked out so well. For the main course, I had the filet mignon served with grilled mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables in a balsamic glaze on the side. It was the BEST filet mignon I've EVER had! I've eaten at many steakhouses such as Capital Grille, Morton's, etc. and honestly, did not compare to this filet mignon... so tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. And for $27 with the sides, the price cannot be beat!!! It was probably a 10 oz. steak too! HUGE! My boyfriend had the lobster ravioli and he enjoyed it... I had a sampling of it and was fairly decent and comparable to others I've had. We didn't have any room for dessert, because we gorged ourselves with all their housemade flatbreads with olive oil and hot pepper sauce. Really decent meal! With the $25 gift card, the total came out to $35 for two! MAN!!! Who needs the city, when I can get a above average meal just a walk away... I love Medford!

Updated 8/20/13 - Have gone 4 or 5 more times since my 1st review and this restaurant has completely won me over. I'm addicted to the porcini mushroom ravioli and every time the service is a million times better than the 1st time I ate there. I also think they don't keep the doors open as much and the fly problem has never been an issue since then.

I went there for Sunday brunch with my husband & 2 of our friends. There were only 5-6 tables with customers & we saw 3 waitresses. We waited about 5-8 minutes for our waitress to come by with coffee, we told her we'd like cream & sugar & we were ready to order. A friend of ours ordered the LANTANA FRENCH TOAST, but they were out of it. Our other friend ordered the EGGS BENEDICT, & we were told they were out of that too. I ordered the STEAK & EGGS with my steak Medium Rare. She brought sugar, then disappeared, we waited for over 10 minutes for cream. Another waitress came by to refill our coffee, and a few minutes later, our waitress stopped by our table & remember "Oh I forgot your cream, I'm so sorry" she disappears for another 10 minutes & we're still yet to get any cream. The cream comes out right before the food arrives. We also hear another table who are being served EGGS BENEDICT, when we ask our waitress how come they didn't have it when we ordered it, she tells us that they are out of English Muffins & we could have gotten it with toast, but it's too late now. We we finally get our meal, she forgets the syrup for our friends French Toast, my steak which was supposed to be medium rare, was so well done, that it was dry & disgusting. The (over easy) eggs were barely cooked, they were slimey. We asked for ketchup for the home fries, & the first few squirts of ketchup were dark brown. They bring us coffee yet no spoons, you have to stir it with either your fork or your knife. The little vase of flowers on the table, 3/4 of them were brown & wilted. I have never EVER had more poor service & disgusting food in my life. Don't waste your time on this horrible place. You'll only leave unsatisfied & irritated.

My wife and I were looking for a place to eat on Friday night and she found this place. It was tucked away behind some main roads and we didn't know what to expect. When we walked in, we were greeted right away and seated right away (it was late around 9:30). The service and food were phenomenal. We ordered the Beet salad (awesome) and the Marghertia Pizza and the Lobster Ravioli. All three items were delicious along with the bread they provided. Our server was very friendly and constantly came over to check on us and even made small talk. In addition, I asked for Garlic for my pizza, and they got it for me even though it wasn't readily available. The house wines were great and all for $6!. To top it all off, the tiramisu was fantastic and they even let us stay and chat after they officially closed. All in all: highly recommend Lantana!!

Firey fresh bread.. delicious!! Always had great service. Unique but not "out-there" Italian Specials and great menu. Delicious risottos. Great pastas. Great sauces. Flexible for substitutions (I'm vegetarian). Made-to-order. Decent wine list, cozy and well decorated. Loses a star because it is a little too pricey for what it is, unfortunately. My husband and I are HAPPY to spend money on a delicious meal, but Lantana's prices just don't seem appropriate. I think it thinks it's in downtown Boston! Worth the occasional trip, especially because even though you can get comparable Italian elsewhere for a better price, you cannot get this bread anywhere else. In spite of the price, I still easily recommend Lantana.

Early.....weeknight dinner Wife an I sat right down an ordered two appetizer... mussels in a White wine sauce that had great flavor. Next was the clams casino, which had a nice bread crumb stuffing and a touch of roasted red pepper and garlic. We Both enjoyed our main dish. Mushroom ravioli and linguini clams ! The only problem that I had with my dish was that it had minced clams only !!!!! I was expecting whole Clams in the shell steamed cooked in the dish. If it was written on the menu that way, would have goten something else. Might not be a dish that sells that often. Keeping fresh clams on hand might be too costly especially if there not being used..... But then again we did order clams casino!!!! Oh well... After we finished.... decided to try a little dessert along with cappuccino an espresso ( yummy). The desert was REALLY good..... lemon cake.... A nice night out, service was good had no issues to speak of. " A return customer for sure "

Lantana is a great place for a date night. It has a sweet and cozy atmosphere. The food is delicious (I recommend the seafood risotto). The service can be slow (my reason for 4 stars rather than 5), but I'm definitely a fan.

Lantana is a very convenient and comfortable place to have dinner in Medford, when you don't feel like driving too far away. It's nicely decorated, has reasonably good food, wine, and service and decent prices. It isn't getting more stars because it's inconsistent. I have eaten there around 4 times and always left happy, but felt that there was something lacking. Like for example, last night, I met a friend there for dinner and the amazing bread that everyone raves about was burned, and when we asked for more, they didn't have any at the moment, so we had to wait for the next batch (which wasn't burned) to come out. The arugula salad was decent, but the rack of lamb was underseasoned and (slightly) overcooked. On the other hand, the wine selection was decent and reasonably priced, as are most of the items on the menu. Still waiting for the wow moment to revise upwards to four stars!

We moved to Medford, a short walk from Lantana's. As service there tends to run on the slower side, don't go there if you're in a hurry to get somewhere afterward. The food there is great, and there is a decent selection of entrees. Be sure to request their bread and dipping oil (some of my fave!). In addition, the pumpkin ravioli, steak tips, fried artichokes are some of our faves. Love their Sunday brunch as well. The husband and I are definitely regulars there at this point. I've upgraded this place to 5 stars. Love it. And they serve wine and beer!!

We moved and discovered this shy gem was tucked in right around the corner. We enjoy the small, cozy dining room. It makes us feel like they are cooking just for us. It seems to be the place we end up during a snowstorm, or a midweek date dinner. I am a vegetarian, he isn't. This place suits us both perfectly! (you can imagine how difficult that is unless he eats my food, or I subsist on lettuce!) The lighting glitters in between businesses that are closed for the day. The tables have real flowers, not tacky fake ones. It has never failed to amaze us. Not your typical cheese and grease italian joint - but a beautiful, health option friendly, and diverse dining experience. The bread and herb/oil dib is a perfect way to get started. The appetizers are delicate and delicious, the entree's exquisite and filling. Salads with substance include ingredients such as fresh spinach, brie, roasted red peppers, pistachios, and cranberry's to name a few. The pumpkin ravioli is creamy, sweet, and heavenly. The portabella mushrooms are cooked perfectly! (not tasteless and rubbery like I have had at other places.) The pasta tastes fresh and homemade. The sauces rich! My sweetheart adores the red snapper and chicken! His fish last night, looked fresh off the boat and tender - he was in heaven. Finish it up with an authentic desert and coffee (if you can manage to eat more!) and voila! The waitstaff has always been right there for anything we need without feeling stifled, and they set the mood for a relaxing romantic/casual night out. Come find the Lantana!

We went on a Monday night in November, and three tables were occupied, including ours. The sole server disappeared for 20- to 35-minute intervals from the time we were seated and continuing through water pour, app order, app delivery, drink order (there was no offer to order drinks; we had to ask at app delivery for sodas and a glass of wine), dinner order, and dinner delivery. Furthermore, we asked for bread three times; when it came, it had a raw-flour taste and was very cold. Our appetizers and entrees were delivered cold, not warm, not tepid-- cold. I am guessing that if the dishes had been brought shortly after preparation, they may have been good. As stated, the server disappeared for long periods of time, which makes me wonder about the chef who operates in an open kitchen with a view of most of the restaurant. Why didn't the chef notice the dishes he prepared were sitting stagnant? Why didn't he serve the dishes himself? Where is the pride in the work here? Insult to injury, one dish was ordered with extra sauce (a thin sauce, not tomato-based) and was requested to go. It was packed in a snap-shut styro burger container. Needless to say, all the sauce spilled in the bag and then the car.

I live near this place and walk by it all of the time so one night I checked it out. The decor inside seemed like the place was really trying to look a little fancy, but there were just too many things around which didn't really help. I felt like the space would be much better with a cozy, laid-back atmosphere. The service was very warm and friendly, and not stuffy at all even though they were all really dressed up. That being said, I don't care about appearance of the inside as long as it's clean which this place was mostly. I don't remember all that we ordered because we ate there so long ago, but I had the pumpkin ravioli with some wine. The wine selection was very reasonably-priced and the ravioli was really delicious. I would go back just to try it again. I think we had meatballs for an appetizer, but I'm not sure. Whatever we had it was really yummy as well. I think this place is rather cozy and would be better if it embraced that, but I would go back and eat there again no matter what. I like a good neighborhood restaurant that isn't all sandwiches and pizza.

Recently went to this place with a voucher from restaurant.com , but we were also trying it because we heard some raving reviews. Upon walking in, I was a little disappointed. The place looked old and a little dirty. The hostess walked us over to a table that was located right next to a bucket on the floor that was catching water from a dripping AC unit in the ceiling. How romantic. Our silverware, dishes, and glasses were pretty much stuck to the table- it had that layer of film on it that made you wonder if they ever really cleaned the tables. We started off with the bread that they gave us which was very tastey. We orded the mozzarella bruschetta, which was probably the best thing all night. My boyfriend ordered the salmon, and while he finished everything on his plate, he said it was good, but nothing fantastic. I ordered the dinner special filet mignon and it was pretty good, but again nothing to be wowed over. The veggies that came with my meal also tasted like the ones you get in the freezer section of the grocery store. After all was said and done, our bill was pretty hefty even with the voucher. The place has okay food but definitely not worth the money we paid. I wouldn't go back.

We tried Lantana because of all the good reviews and were expecting a nice meal. We were disappointed from the get go. The wine was terrible, the service slow. The dinners weren't special at all, the noise level high. It did have a very nice decor and the bread was good. The dipping sauce not so good. What's with the Tobasco? Would not return or recommend.

I do love this palce!

My friend and I stopped at this quaint little restaurant last night. This little restaurant or cafe was a breath of fresh air. We got a glass of reasonably price Melbac from Argentina and after looking over a wonderful looking menu we decided to just enjoy the wine with 2 appetizers. We got eggplant rolled and stuffed and there was lots of baby spinach added to this dish. It was delicious. Also, pumpkin ravioli which again was truly delicious... Our waiter (I am sorry I don't know his name) was exceptional. The employees behind the line when we left all acknowledged us and we said we will be back... When we got our wine at the beginning they gave us bread and oil even though we only got apps. The dipping oil with some hot sauce added also had fresh garlic and a sprinkle of fresh parsley. It was to die for, so simple, so good. The bread was like wedges of pizza cooked crisp and hot but with no toppings just some flavor... What a delicious accompaniment to a delicious glass of wine. We told our waiter we just were driving by looking for a place to enjoy a little food, wine and some good old fashioned chat and we found this wonderful little place. This little cafe has been there for 10 years and we never ever knew it. Give this place a try, you won't be dissappointed.

I started out heading here to meet a friend for lunch on Saturday. We go there, only to find that they were no longer serving lunch (both of us checked their website prior to going to confirm their lunch hours). We ended up going somewhere else, which was fantastic and I will review later. Fast forward to Sunday night and my boyfriend and I wanted to get out of the house and get something to eat. I figured why not give this place a shot, it seems to have some good reviews on here. It started out with strange service, like awkward in a way. I don't know how to explain it, but it was just odd. Our order was taken and a few minutes later their bread came. The bread was delicious, and came with a sauce that we learned was oil, garlic, parsley and hot sauce. Yes, hot sauce. And it was good, damn good. Our dinners came with salad, and that was just blah. My salad had one giant chunk of onion, and the end of a head of romaine. I also found the oil & vinegar dressing to be lacking. At least they came with the meal and it wasn't something we ordered and paid more for. Dinner arrived and my eggplant parmesan was swimming in sauce. It actually would have been pretty good if it wasn't soup. My boyfriend got the red snapper, and he liked it. We followed his meal with a cappuccino, nothing on the the dessert menu jumped out at us, so we skipped it. It took forever for them to come get the check to process the charge card. At that point we really just wanted to leave and it wasn't busy, so we knew they weren't waiting on other tables. If this place was open for lunch, I might give it another chance since the menu was different. But with so many great Italian restaurants to choose from, I can't see myself coming back here too soon.

I ate dinner tonite at the Lantana Cafe with my guy and we both enjoyed it very much. I had the rolled eggplant appetizer, garlic bread, and a salad. He had the caprese salad and the mussels appetizer. The atmosphere was nice. My big complaint was that the table was sticky in more than one spot and the silverware wasn't sparkling clean. What can I say? I'm a stickler for things like that. But I would go there again. The food was pretty darn good. There is a consignment store across the street that was fun to take a stroll through after dinner.

A delightful 'find'; my husband & I had passed it while traveling down Salem St. many times and hey, why not give it a try for a Saturday out? A charming place, very much a small neighborhood family or datenight destination. We were greeted warmly, shown to a window-side table because I prefer watching street life as we dine. The menu was interesting and very well-priced, even included a few Middle Eastern items as part of the Mediterranean motif. Good house Shiraz, flatbread to dip into seasoned olive oil, Soup of the Day was Beef Lentil and my husband was pleased. Clams Casino, a retro treat sure to pop up on "Mad Men", then a big platter of linguine with garlic, chopped fresh tomatoes, olive oil. My dining partner chowed down on the 4 cheese ravioli. The atmosphere and decor of this little place was pure comfort, even the classical guitar music in the background added a soothing touch. We complimented our (handsome) smiling waiter and assured him we would be back.

OK, first of all those Restaurant.com "gift certificates" stink. Don't ever give one to someone you actually like. There are more restrictions on them than anything I've ever seen. Having said that, someone gave me one and I've been trying to use it up. Lantana's reviews are not bad, so we decided to give it a try. We had to spend $50 to save $25 so we ordered the calamari, the bruschetta, the white pizza with broccoli and chicken and the Lantana's Bistecca. The first thing to arrive was bread and dipping oil. The dipping oil had hot sauce drizzled in it which I thought was weird. The calamari was ok, the sauce was pretty good. The bruschetta was very good, the best part of the meal. Then we waited for over 20 minutes for the rest of our meal. The white pizza arrived and I thought the chicken tasted like it also had hot sauce on it, again weird that an Italian cafe chooses something to the effect of Frank's hot sauce as its favorite ingredient. The steak arrive and it looked divine, and the meat was good, however the rice it came with was watery and didn't have much flavor. Overall, Lantana is certainly an establishment that serves food, on plates. If it were the only place to eat in the entire world, I would return.

This is a great spot smack dab in a very unassuming part of Medford. If you drive by and blink, you'll miss it! A cool thing- you can have Mediterranean food or Italian food- whatever strikes you at the time! Or you can have both, which is exactly what I did on my most recent visit. They have the traditional choices with enough creative spins to keep it enticing. Started off with the Lantana antipasto- hummus, a delightfully sweet baba ganoush, delicious stuffed grape leaves and pita bread. My chicken picatta was awesome and they switched the pasta for some grilled vegetables (including grilled celery- who knew?), free of charge. The ambiance is romantic and eclectic. I can't even describe it- you'll have to check it out for yourself!

I really like the romantic cozy atmosphere at this little restaurant. I've eaten here maybe 5 times, and each time it was as if we were the only people there. the breakfast/brunch, pastas and pizzas are really delicious and the service is friendly. a little on the pricier side

My boyfriend and I went last night and it was our first visit. We went because we had a gift certificate, otherwise it would be a bit out of our grad student price range. The website encourages reservations, but when we walked in at 8:45 we were only the third party in the restaurant. The atmosphere is pleasant, but the vents were blowing very cold air into the dining room. One pair even asked to be moved to a table away from the air conditioning. We each ordered a glass of wine, which was reasonably priced, but our glasses each had several bits of cork floating around. The bread and oil that is served is delicious and we even got a second basket. We started with the crab cake, which took a long time to come out. When it did, there was no fresh crab meat to be found on the single, gray colored, over-salted mush that was supposed to be a "cake." We then each ordered pasta dishes. I ordered the chicken marsala, which is a favorite of mine, and my boyfriend had the pasta primavera with chicken. We were hoping for hand-made pasta, but it didn't seem to be. Regardless, the pasta was very overcooked, which made it close to inedible. My sauce was watery, his dish had far too much spinach in it. Neither of us finished our plates, which is very rare for us. We didn't feel like bothering for dessert, paid the check fairly quickly, and left. Maybe we got them on a bad night, but we won't be going again. We would have gotten better food for cheaper at an Olive Garden. Two stars for the pleasant waitstaff, the bread and oil, and the portion sizes of the entrees.

My family has been eating here since it opened. My father actually stumbled in there on their first day. Since then we have had many a family gathering there as well as several more intimate dinners. The food is fantastic and has never disappointed me. The wait staff and chefs have always been willing to work with me to accommodate my shellfish allergy. The pastas are delicious and I CRAVE their pumpkin ravioli!! A definite must have for an appetizer or a meal. We live a few miles from here and keep coming back. Thanks Eiman and Moe for doing a great job!

Service was great and as usual the bread and oil was a hit, as always. I had the eggplant lasagna special and it was delicous- good job, There needs to be more support for theese eataries; especially at this time.

A friend suggested this place to check out and I am glad she did. Like the 1st poster mentioned, you can have a combination of Italian and Mediterranean and that is what we did. We started with the Lantana Antipasto and loved it. For dinner I had the chicken and vegetable risotto and it was delicious! My husband had the chicken and shrimp fra diavolo and it was also wonderful. The service was excellent. We will go back for sure!

I have driven by this place many times and wondered about it. A good friend goes there often and suggested that we go there. It's small and a friendly restaurant. The food is tasty and plentiful. A good alternative to going into North End.

"We're out of that. We're out of that too. Oh, we're out of that too. " I was excited to try this place since the reviews were pretty consistently good. While the food wasn't bad, the service was terrible. There were 6 of us. I ordered the veal saltimbocca and then the waitress said, "oh, we're out of veal." A few minutes later I tried to order the fried artichoke appetizer. They were out of that too. The waitress unapologetically told us they had had a really busy weekend and were out of veal, artichokes and portabella mushrooms. This was after we had all ordered. How difficult would it have been for her to mention this to us when we first started looking at the menu? Then, after taking all our orders, she came back and told my fiance's mother, who was really excited about her steak, "you're not going to like this. We're out of the filet you ordered." I know it wasn't the waitress's fault, but honestly, she should have told us this from the start and maybe the restaurant should have planned a little better? Then the waitress proceeded to forget drinks, forget who ordered what, and interrupt conversations. I don't think she was intentionally rude; she just seemed to have no idea what she was doing. And it wasn't because she was busy - there was only one other group of 4 in the restaurant. The food was good enough - the grilled vegetable antipasto was very nice. The casear salad, however, was overpowered by too much dressing. The fradiavolo was well-cooked, but not spicy at all, and isn't that the whole point of a fradiavolo? I feel slightly guilty giving this place 2 stars - I'd give 2.5 if I could, but I would not go back.

Another great find using Restaurant.com 50% off gift cards... The place certainly isn't perfect, but overall the food and service was good. A couple of things that stood out as somewhat disappointing, The only restroom was small and coed, i know space can be tough to come by, but it is what it is... Also, the hand dryer was located right above the toilet, so when you dried your hands it sprayed all over the toilet seat. (not good) They charge for soda refills, (not shocking, but seriously? $2.50 each) The menu claimed "homemade pasta" although the Putanesca I had was good, clearly it was barilla, or some other box pasta. But not to be completely negative, we had several apps, the fried artichoke over an Aioli were really good and presented nicely looking like several flowers, we also had the grilled vegetable antipasto which was served over a mesclun salad (delish) and a caprese salad nothing special but what else can you do to it??? Oh yeah the focaccia to start the meal is a great addition, the sauce is kinda weird, but interesting. Overall, the place is worth trying especially if you get the $25 off 50 or the $50 off 100 gift cards through restaurant.com ... even w/o them it still is reasonably priced.

I wasn't blown away. The food was good, the portions were huge, the wine was ok and the prices were reasonable, yet it lacked the umpf to make into the permanent rotation.

The crunchy, bitter, uncooked eggplant was unlike anything I've ever had before.

my boyfriend and i tried Lantana the other night after a suggestion from his sister. we found a decent parking spot and walked in. we hadnt been aware that reservations were needed (it was packed) but the gentleman at the door sat us promptly at a little table for 2 right across from the door. i did feel like we were in everyones way because all the servers had to rush past us to get by but they were the ones who seated us there so it must have not been a huge deal. the foccacia that they serve was nice and warm and the dipping oil was high on my boyfriends list as it tastes like it has Franks Red Hot in it. he loves Franks.. id ont care for it so much but he was happy. i got the steak with gorgonzola cheese and mushrooms on it and it was one of the best steaks i have ever had. the rice pilaf that came with it was nothing special but the steamed veggies were nice and crisp and the sauteed spinach was yummy... a tad too oily for me but still good. he got the eggplant lassagna with raviolis.. the eggplant was amazing but the raviolis tasted too doughy and werent very good. im used to Bellas so im picky =) for dessert we ordered creme brulee and ended up getting something similar to jello in this weird dark brown sauce/ liquid... no carmelized sugar and was nothing like creme brulee that we've ever had.. it was not good and i couldnt handle the texture the staff seemed very rushed and the waitress we had was nice but i felt like everything we asked for was an inconvienance for her. she seemed very rushed the entire time. i would come back again but not at such a busy time.

A definite must if you live in the area. Great atmosphere, great food, priced a little high for location which is why it gets 4 stars. Its the best in the neighborhood by far. Service is good, not sure why this place isn't more crowded.

Mediterranean food is at its best in this small cozy restaurant in Medford. The prices are reasonable and the food is all fresh and good. Pasta dishes are the best tasting but I also tried a cod dish one night with herbs and tomatoes, it was so good!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
