Had dinner here with my husband tonight for the first time. The atmosphere is pretty basic; definitely a simple, family-run feeling. The food was amazing! We shared the vegetable samosa to start - very flavorful and unexpectedly spicy. The entrees (chicken vindaloo, malai kofta) and breads we tried were equally delicious. Everything was well seasoned, fresh tasting, not greasy. So glad we tried Joti Palace. We will definitely be back!

Actually. I also like this place. I've also only ordered vegetarian food for dine-in, but have had mostly very, very good Indian food. The soup was somewhat bland, but everything else was actually rather good. True. there is a slightly weird ambiance, but I've found the food much better than most Indian food restaurants. Again, like a few others, I don't quite understand the negative reviews. I can reliably get a good Indian food fix here.

The food is very delicious. The people in the restaurant are always kind to me. It is one of the best Indian restaurants in the Boston area.

This is review base on the pick up. I rate it 3.5Stars.. I usually call them 20-25mins before i go pick up my foods. So these give them plenty of time.. Most of the time i order the lunch menu L4 chicken tikka masala and Garlic Nan. They will ask you how spicy.. from mild, medium, to Spicy hot. I would recommend you go with medium because if you go with mild(they might just add water) the sauce become too watery light and it taste so bland. Even Medium isn't that spicy. The lamb curry on (L1 lunch menu) isn't that good. It doesn't taste like curry. It mostly lamb + Mashed Potatoes gravy... i dont know i haven't try Lamb curry in other place so i have no idea if it taste like that. For the price, well it is Indian foods. Their price is actually very reasonable. I know the portion is look small but that is how Indian food serve in most area.

3.5 stars for this place. My review is based on the buffet they offer. Naan is good - the plain one is better than the naan with onion garlic stuffing. Chhole-potato preparation was good. Do not go for the gulab jamun; you'd be disappointed. Go for the rice kheer instead. The chicken tikka, dal makhni & malai kofta are all above average.

The two or three times we went to this place, the after-effects to our GI tracks were disastrous. You can jazz up the chicken or lamb with as much spice as you want to cover up the fact that it's probably been in the reach-in freezer too long, but believe me, if you want your customers NOT to ever set foot in your restaurant again, that's the way to go. Disgusting and putrid.

This restaurant is under rated. I have been eating here for about 2 years and everything I have gotten has been very good. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a little drab and dated but the food is tasty and authentic. The staff is very pleasant. My father is Indian so I grew up eating Indian food. I suggest chicken curry, chicken vindaloo, mushroom saag, samosa appetizers and the onion kulcha bread. The meal is moderately priced but high quality.

I always get the food delivered or pick it up coz- A. The manager lacks people skills and sounds almost rude. B. Its always deserted and that creeps me out. C. I don't wanna dine there and look at a child sleeping in the corner (ON THE FLOOR!!!). Food is meh. But its cheap and conveniently located so I cave in everytime I crave Indian food. But if you are craving some serious Indian food, go to Boston. Too bad that Malden-Everett doesn't have many Indian places to choose from.

Bleh. Done with Joti Palace. I suffered through their increasingly long delivery times, but when I waited over 90 minutes for my food, that SHOULD have been the last straw. But now they have a delivery minimum of $20, which means I can never use the 25% off Foodler coupon. If I have to wait forever for my Indian delivery I at least want it to be cheap!

I don't normally write reviews...but when a place is this bad, I think I owe it to society to publicly rate this place. 1 star was more than I would have liked to give them. This evening we (2 people) ordered -2 veg samosas -the Reshami Kebab -lamb Saag Let me begin by saying we used an entertainment book coupon for "Buy 1 dinner entrée, get 1 free". When we arrived to pick up our order, it still came to $23 because the woman charged us the 20% gratuity on the full check. Gratuity is optional when you dine and certainly not mandatory when you order take out. $6 was fine- but the principal of it will be enough to prevent me from returning. Woman was rude when we asked her to explain why we were being charged gratuity. Now the food: Veg Samosas were standard- chutney was lacking flavor Reshami Kebab was almost more of a disappointment than our encounter...for $12 they gave us about 7 pieces of chicken about the size of a half dollar. Taste was okay but price took every enjoyment out of it. Lamb Saag was tolerable...small pieces of lamb in a spinach yogurt sauce. Will not be returning. If anyone is in search of a decent Indian Place: Punjabi Dhabas in Inman Square has always been amazing.

Food is good, price is good, but if you're ordering delivery be prepared to wait. This is the third time my food has not arrived in over an hour. Precisely, an hour and a half! I called twice, did not receive the promised call from the delivery guy. If you're actually hungry, take your business elsewhere.

I order take-out through foodler so I have never actually been to this restaurant but I have ordered a lot of different menu items and have always enjoyed what I've gotten. My favorite go-to dishes are the Chicken Tikka-Masala and the Lamb Vindaloo. Both are really good served with a large container of rice. I usually get some Naan as well which is good too. Delivery time can take a while but the prices are very reasonable for the food quality.

Just ordered off of foodler, yuck. Maybe it's just because I've always ordered Indian in cities. Both of the local places in JP are substantially better then this place. Even the crappier places in the area are better than this. I've never had bad indian food until tonight. The garlic naan was so overpowering it made an italian shy away. The pakora was kind of burnt and the filling was lackluster. the entree was super super bland and the sauce was really greasy and soupy (aloo ghobi). yuck. Not worth the coupon.

Jesus, Mary & Joseph is what my Nana used to say when she was either: a) pissed off b) annoyed c) disgusted. I'll take A, B & C for $300, Alex. This place blows! First and foremost, ThePainfulTruth X described it perfectly. When my friend and I drove up to this place, we both looked at each other, and I know we were both thinking..."should we?" Well, we did. And only because I had a coupon for a buy one meal get one free. This meal should have come with a doggie bag of Charmin as you exit. When you come into the restaurant, you come through a small area, then into a screen door. So weird. The dining room is small, with maybe a 5' buffet section at the back. We were seated quickly, only because I think the waiter/cook/owner/bus boy was happy to see more than two people dining here at the time. I put my purse down and asked to be directed towards the restroom. I was pointed down a dark (not dimly lit) I mean dark as in there-are-no-lights-on. He turned them on for me, and the bathroom scared me. I didn't touch ANYTHING. At this point I should have left...I didn't. My friend pointed out (via text message) that the tablecloths (under the warped plexi glass) were filthy. Appetizing. Whatever..trying not to judge. When we were seated, the waiter poured waters, and brought over a plate of papadum with three chutneys - things were looking good because the papadum was actually really, really good - as were the two out of three chutneys that we tasted. The third looked way too watery. For lunch, we both ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and garlic naan to share. We also ordered two diet cokes, which we found later were NOT free refills. What the hell year are we in again? There may have been about 7 ounces of soda in there. Balls. We downed two each at $1.50 a pop. Rip-off. Altogether, I poured about 2 teaspoons of salt over my tikka masala - it was lacking some serious flavor, and also seemed very very thin. In addition to this, for $10.95 (LUNCH PORTION) I was expecting to have some leftover for dinner. Nope. I counted 6 tiny chunks of chicken with a buttload of bland sauce. The basmati rice was weird, and sort-of soggy, so it didn't really soak up any of the sauce. When we were finished, we sat for 10 minutes until someone came over to us. Granted, there was ONE other party in the entire place. I wonder what he was doing back there. Definitely not getting ready for a lunch rush! When it came time to pay for our meal, we both felt like we'd been butt-raped. Almost $40 before the coupon. WHAT THE HELL!? And he couldn't figure out how to split the bill in half. Lord...hear my prayer. Save yourself some money and a lot of time on the toilet, and head to Anmol in Beverly. You're welcome.

I hope that writing this will remind me not to go there for lunch anymore. I have been three or four times, spaced months apart, and I always forget what a dump this place is and how lame the buffet is. The selection of the buffet is a small sampling of the least tasty Indian food- no Chicken Tika Masala, no Saag Paneer, no interesting curries -nothing very appealing at all. The tandori chicken is dry and tasteless. It would really do the owners a lot of good to visit some other Indian buffets and see what others are doing so well. The proprietors seem very nice (which is why I always end up staying after I remember how bad it is- I don't want to walk out and be rude), but i always just end up taking a few nibbles, throwing some cash down and heading out to have lunch somewhere else. Luckily, the waiter usually vanishes for long stretches of time, so there's no awkwardness about leaving. There's never even anybody in there at lunch- that should be a good indicator.

I am rating this on their delivery. I got chicken tika masala, chicken curry, chicken naan, chicken tandoori (basically everything chicken) and meat mimosas. Better than average for normal Indian food (3 star) and I give it an extra star since its the only Indian place around here that delivers to Malden. All the chicken was moist and flavorful, the masala was spicy but wish it was a little spicier. Naan was good. Overall very satisfied, I would order from here again. I'll update if the bathroom has a different opinion by tomorrow. Bottom line: if you live around Malden, Medford, Everett and want Indian take out/delivery order from here, you won't be disappointed by the American favorites (curry, tandoori, masala). Delivery/order takers might have a hard time with your address, be patientttt lol

It pains me to say this, as I want to support businesses in my former hood, but Joti Palace is just not that good. Seriously. The chicken and shrimp in the dishes we had (shrimp vindaloo and chicken tikka) were so dry. The sauces were really good, but the meat and fish itself were not seasoned at all, it seemed. Even the samosa was kind of bland. My roommate took me here for dinner the night before I moved, and I had such high hopes. I suppose if you REALLY want Indian food, it would be ok in a pinch. Maybe we should have known better when we walked in at 6:30 on a Friday night and there was nobody else in there. At all. And not too many calls for takeout. Oh well. You live, you learn.

I have order delivery and have gone in to dine here. The delivery service was good, it took an average amount of time to arrive and the food was warm and good. When I went into the restaurant the place was a bit run down and dated. However, the service and food was generally pretty good - The bread basket and the Chicken Tikki Marsala was very good. I would go back but it was nothing spectacular. I good local option for Indian Cuisine.

Ugh. Spent 2-3 am last night in severe pain after eating dinner here. Still not feeling good the next day. Food poisoning is not acceptable!

Good Indian fare for a reasonable price. The lunch buffet is a nice treat. This place has been around for a while and is the only Indian restaurant in Malden. The tandoori chicken had some great heat. Good & spicy.

So I had a craving for Indian food last night and decided to try Joti's. It was just OK---not great at all by any means. The service was good (hence the 3 stars) since we were one of the only 2 tables in there. The chicken tikka was good, creamy and somewhat flavorful, but I've had much better. The Lentil & Garlic Soup was horrible-- I wouldn't even eat it. The lamb curry was just OK, it lacked flavor and the lamb meat was not the best. My bf ordered the Tandoori Mixed Grill and it was not good at all. The meat was over cooked and very dry. The prices are cheap but so are the portions-- which is what you expect. Judging by the reviews maybe they were having a bad night but we won't be back.

Forgettable at best. It was about 1:45p on a weekday when I visited. Storefront was dingy; you have to go through an odd internal screen door to enter. Cold inside. All the lights were turned off. No one inside, it was silent. It wasn't clear whether it was open when I went in. The waitress seated me; she was not rude, but not friendly, either. She had to uncover everything on the buffet. There was no naan (bread) or pakoras (crispy appetizers). Nor was there any salad. She also had to turn on the music, it was off when I walked in. Everything was watery. The chicken curry was forgettable, bland. The malai kofta was very very fatty, it gave me an immediate stomachache. Tasty Bite (prepackaged Indian food) is much better than the food at Joti Palace. The waitress did not come to ask how I was doing. She never refilled my water. She brought out the naan and pakoras only as I was finishing my meal. The kheer (rice pudding) tasted off, and the gulab jamun (fried dough in sugar syrup) were gross. With tip the meal came to $10. The music they played was excellent, very pleasant. That was the only enjoyable aspect of the meal. Forget this place: go to India Pavilion in Central Square, Cambridge; they're so much better!

Mediocre at best. The service and side dishes were ok. But they don't keep the meat fresh enough to rate anything above a 3 on a 1 to 10 scale. Delivery is great.

We ordered delivery from Joti Palace for the first time via Foodler (20% your first order!) the other day, and were very impressed. The reviews on Yelp were mixed, so we were hesitant, but I can't resist 20% off Chicken Tikka. I'm glad we made the risk, and was very content with the food. Perfectly spiced (definitely a bit spicy, but you can still taste all the flavors of the food, and not need to drink a gallon of water), pretty good portion sizes, and well-cooked white/yellow rice (don't know the name for this kind of rice) - I like their rice. I do not like biting into a cardamom seed in rice, which often happens when I've ordered Indian delivery. Here's what we thought: Rice = win Chicken Tikka Masala = win - a good balance of chicken and sauce Baingan Bhartha = win - a fair amount of eggplant (a lot of local Indian places seem to make this dish mostly out of tomatoes, with only a hint of eggplant. They fail. Joti wins) Bhindi Bhuna = win - deliciously cooked okra! A nice vegetable dish, with very little sauce. You actually get (well flavored) veggies. Yay veggies! Would definitely order from these guys again - flavor wise, it was definitely one of the best Indian I've had in the area. Others have hit the spot, but Joti made me content with Boston Indian, like I have never been before.

I love Joti Palace ! It is the ONLY indian restaurant in our area and thank god ... because everytime we order we get fabulous food !! Never disappointed .... we always either pick up or have it delivered because the restaurant it self is kinda funky but the food is worth it ... the Chicken tikka marsala is soooo delicious !!

  • Dilly W.

This rating is for delivery. I ordered chicken tikka, lamb biriyani, vegatable somosas, and garlic naan. The food is okay but they messed up my order and gave me a tikka spinach salad instead of what I ordered. I called them back up to explain the mix up and the guy at the restaurant says he won't deliver the right order because it's only 5 dollars for the appetizer (even though the full order was over 50!). Last time I checked, the customer is right and should be looked at as a future custumer. Instead he didn't care that he made a mistake on my order and said it was just too bad. There are plenty of other Indian food places to get food from, I suggest you avoid this one.

We get takeout pretty regularly from Joti Palace, but we decided to return for a dine-in dinner last night. And it was good. First of all, they made us some freshly brewed iced tea, and of course I appreciate that. And we ordered the vegetarian dinner for two, which is quite a deal - for $25, you each get soup (lemony, good), vegetable samosas (delicious, filled with lots of potato), naan, two vegetarian entrees (we went for paneer tikka masala and malai kofta, both of which were really good), rice, raita (wicked good raita too), and dessert (we opted for the mango ice cream, to-go, since we were already full by the end of the meal). It was a lot of food for a reasonable price. The service is great, as the owners are clearly aiming to please. The decor hasn't changed, and it's still pretty cheesy, but I still love them and will continue to support them.

All I know is that I really dig when a friendly Indian dude delivers Chicken Tikka Masala, pakoras, samosas, and nan to my front door. I've actually eaten IN the restaurant 0 times, but lost track of how many deliveries to my front door over the years. Only complaint is that it takes 45 minutes to an hour for delivery to arrive. But I'm a fat, lazy spoiled ass american slacker, so don't listen to me! I can only eat Indian food in the cold weather months for some reason. Dip Tip of the Day! -- save some tikka masala sauce for dipping of the leftover nan and fried apps the next day, u can thank me in the next life.

Whenever I get a craving for Indian food, I think of Joti Palace. I've never been disappointed by their food. The lunch buffet is excellent. Whenever I get Indian food anywhere else (because I'm not in the area), I typically find myself comparing it to Joti Palace. If you do decide to eat here, be prepared to be lonely, however. More often than not, all of the tables have been empty when I've gone in. It's a shame; the food is great! My only real complaint is the parking situation (there's hardly ever any parking space in front of the restaurant on the street). If you can, take the bus. If you do end up driving and can't find any parking on Main Street, try parking a couple blocks away in Malden Square--worth the short walk!

  • Mary B.

I got take-out from here recently and the quality of the food is still good. We got chicken tikka masala and chana masala, with rice, and plain naan for around $23 total. Everything with the order was correct and there was more than enough for 2, along with plenty for a couple of leftover meals. The interior is not polished and fancy, but they really are incredibly nice so I will continue to support!

  • Andre C.

I've only been here for the lunch buffet. The restaurant was empty although I was there a bit late, so perhaps the lunch crowd already left. The food seemed pretty standard, although the chicken was way too dry and I thought the curry was a bit bland for my liking. I've definitely had much better Indian food elsewhere in the city. Perhaps the fact that the restaurant was empty was a major factor, but the decor for the place was strangely depressing. They didn't even bother turning on the lights, so I ate my lunch in darkness. Would I return again? Probably not. I'll stick to the options in Boston for my fix of Indian buffets.

I almost feel bad for the people who own Joti Palace in a good way. Clearly this place has better food than Spice 'n' Hot the only other Indian place in Malden. But Joti Palace is located in a place that you can easily overlook it. I would recommend this place for take out. I have not tried the buffet though. For my take out, I ordered the garlic naan and the chicken tikka masala, standard items that people would order and they seemed to have perfected it. There was so much chicken in my curry that you could easily mistake it for some other chicken dish. My advice order the naan, order some spicy dish and get your favorite beer and let the spice and hops take over your senses.

  • Alan G.

Disclaimer! This is a review of the lunch buffet only... lunch buffet = the worst indian food i've tasted. When the highlight of the buffet is the raw vegetables, there is something wrong.

    (1)
  • A M.

I ordered take out once, and I promise you I will never eat there again. I got the chicken tikka that everyone else's reviews raved about, and it was pretty flavorless. The garlic nan was terrible. They used huge chunks of garlic cloves all over the middle, must have been about 10 cloves total on just one piece. Everything was very bland, and cost about $40 for a couple take out containers. Gross, do not order from here.

  • Casey G.

This place is sooooo good! Chicken Masala is the best I've ever had, the naan is fantastic, lamb curry was delish, rice is perfect... Haven't tried too many items on the menu because the chicken masala is just so good I haven't been able to try anything else! I highly recommend... Oh! And try the mango lasse... Yum!

  • kristin w.

I like this place- the service was good, the masala tea had good spice to it. The meals- we got sag paneer and Dal Makani were very good with good spice. The prices are reasonable- not as low as Spice N'Hot, but reasonable and I liked the food better. I would go back.

  • Theresa J.

I always order the same thing here and it is so good I cannot manage to get to the rest of the menu. I order the meat samosas and the chicken tikka masala. One star off because ur buffet is just GROSS and your service sucks.

  • Beans B.

Ate inside once, have ordered delivery a number of times and I recommend that you get it delivered, the storefront is pretty run-down. That said, the food is very good and it arrives nice and hot. Prices are not bad either.

What to eat when you're sick of Italian, salads or wraps??? Indian food was a great lunch change up. I found a menu for Joit's and ordered the Chicken Tikki Masala off the lunch menu. Don't forget to order the Nan to sop up the nicely flavored sauce. I would order this again.

I've been ordering from Joti Palace for years now. The food is overall good. They're great about toning down the spice so people who order "Mild" can eat it. They make great veggie pakoras - best $3.50 on the menu - but you do need to like them rich - the batter is heavy from the chickpeas, not some tempura coating. Eating at the restaurant is not a particularly pleasant experience. Delivery is a better idea. I like that I can order online from them. What I hate, is that I must now live at the edge of their delivery radius, because it takes more than an hour every time. Here's the real kicker - and the reason I can't call it a 3 star place anymore - the last time I got delivery, the guy complained that I only tipped him $3.50 (on the credit card ahead of time). The guy actually told me "You know $3 isn't enough with gas so high." If he's driving a car that can't go two miles on less than a buck, he should get out of the delivery gig. I was livid. Delivery guy wants tips like a waiter, he'd better plate my food, or drop it off in a blizzard. Anyhow, I don't order from here anymore...but I miss the pakoras.

I went here for the lunch buffet on a Saturday. The empty restaurant should have been a clear sign that this place would be disappointing but we sat down anyway. The selection included very bland chiken tikka masala, saag paneer, naan, dal and tandoori chicken. The best thing about this trip was the mango lassi. I will not be returning to Joti Palace.

    (2)
  • Julia H.

I have an undeniable urge for Indian food about once a month. I finally tried the only Indian place I know of in Malden. I was impressed! The Saag Paneer was delicious, and our server was wonderfully sweet. I have to say that the place was kind of empty, so I had that uncomfortable feeling you get when there's no one to diffuse the attention of the waitstaff. I may not go back for a sit-down dinner, but Joti Palace delivers (free with a $15 minimum). They also offer a lunch buffet for $6.95.

The Food was good, It was a bit of a mystery on what it was. The prices I thought were a bit high for what we got. We got take-out If your not solid with Indian food go chinese. My Picks: Chicken tikka or Chicken Vindaloo, Nann Bread, Jasmin rice, Paneer

    (3)
  • Stephanie L.

This place was a disappointment. Their chicken masala was probably one of the worse masala's I've had. Their chicken was especially tough with no taste at all. Moreover, my shrimp vindaloo was extremely depressing. Not only was the shrimp overcooked and rubbery, it had that horrible seafood bite to it which basically means the shrimp was not fresh. Sadness.

  • Gabe L.

I put the price range at cheap, because the dishes ranged from 8-13 dollars for the most part, with the median being 11 bucks. We ordered the swordfish tiki masala, a beef dish, and an order of the lamb nan. The waiter asked us how spicy we'd like it and we said mild to medium. What we got was more on the mild side. The food was good, but not as good as some other Indian restaurants I've been to. The serving size was smaller too - there was less meat in the dishes than I'm accustomed to being served at other places. Even the nan had less. But the price was less than usual too, and witha coupon we got a pretty good value meal. The place was clean but not as upscale as say, Diva, and there were two other parties there while we were there.

  • Judi V.

We found this place on Delivery dot com! It was purely a moment of laziness that had us ordering from here. Though our return trips have had nothing to do with laziness! Try the lentil soup, it's light and the flavor is just addictive. The Chicken Vindaloo is hot and has lots of chicken and potato's, nothing shy about the spice (I ordered it medium) or the portion. The masala was awesome and we loved the buffet at lunch when we went back. They put things out in small bins so nothing sits there eternally hardening under a hot lamp! It's probably the only Indian food in Malden but with one this good who needs another!

This place was the only place that delivered to my town - Wakefield, so I went with the delivery order. The woman from the restaurant then called me and asked me to go pick it up... if I wanted to pick it up I wouldn't have ordered delivery duh. And then she hung up on me, the order was NEVER DELIVERED, and I tried to call back to ask what happened but nobody picked up the phone (tried calling three times). How rude and unprofessional!! BAD SERVICE!

Joti Palace Review: Papadam: It was mildly burnt. It takes skill to burn papadams. Rating: D...it was edible. Aloo Paratha: not bad. Rather salty. Resembled roti more than paratha. Did I mention it's salty? Rating: C-/C. It was decent Pakoras: *cries* Why can't I find decent pakoras in Boston?!?! Everything I get looks like onion bhaji! *cries* Rating: P.F == Pakora FAIL *eats more paratha. cringes at the level of saltiness* Dal Makhani: ..It had an odd aftertaste. The spice level wasn't bad per say. The spices used, in the words of my neighbor, were dubious. Rating: C...it was tolerable, but only tolerable. Rice: Well, it tastes like rice. Actually, it tastes like rather nice rice. Nice rice is nice. I have no more rhymes to splice. ^_^ Rating: B/A Condiments are an essential part of meal, that are commonly ignored. Unless, they stand out due to awesomeness or epic fail. Unfortunately, the later holds. Tamarind sauce: A staple part of an Indian meal. I originally believed that it was fairly hard to completely screw it up. I am constantly amazed. All sugar no spice. No really. It tastes like sugar. Mango Chutney: Obviously, Joti Palace is part of a conspiracy to increase diabetes levels. It's also really grainy. *cries* I'm now off to console my stomach.

I've ordered delivery from this place a handful of times. The guy who answers the phone is friendly & helpful. *** It normally takes a good hour for the food to get to you, but the good food is worth the wait... so order it before you're hungry... don't order if you're starving then get irritated by the wait. I really wanted a vegetarian dish that wasn't on the lunch menu, & the guy was kind enough to make it for me. Another time I wasn't in the mood for the rice, he threw in a couple Papadum wafers in for me, which was such a nice surprise! I always order my dishes "Medium" heat... & they never fail to dissapoint... they make the food with a good amount of heat, but not so much that it blows out your palate... & the depth of flavors in the sauces are so amazing. The Chicken Tikka Masala was good... they give you nice chunks of chicken, the Tikka sauce is so delicious.. (like I said above) good heat, great flavors. The Malai Kofta was incredible... the sauce is extraordinary, I could eat that by the gallon. They top it off with fresh parsley & sliced almonds. Great heat.. complex flavors. & the Onion Chutney is also incredible... again... nice heat but not overpowering... If you're in the mood for a little spice & really good Indian food - try Joti Palace.

7/4/15: overhauling my review to make it more cohesive and readable, and to include menu items we've tried since the original review. we've ordered from here three times now and it gets better each time, i think. i would say if you're not really into indian food or haven't tried much, this would be more like four stars, but having had some really great indian, i just can't honestly give this more than the "yeah, it was fine" three stars review. as others have mentioned, delivery time is LONG. it is usually estimated an hour and they take probably an hour & fifteen or so. that being said, they come to chelsea all the way from malden and delivery is free and the food is always hot so you really can't complain. but just plan accordingly. the delivery guy is friendly enough, but one thing that really bugs me is that i take the time to write instructions on the delivery receipt - twice. in capital letters. so please stop calling me to ask what the house looks like and which door you should use when you have the answer right there in your hand. come on guys, not that hard. condiments/sides/etc: mango lassi - they forgot this the first time we ordered but we've had no order items missing in the two orders since. delicious & very thick but they also tend to pack this with the hot food (why!) so i usually pour mine into a glass with lots of ice and let it cool down/dilute a little. sweet lassi, sodas - good, standard salty lassi - J ordered this on a whim, we thought it would be like a plain yogurt drink with a little salty flavor. instead it was full of seeds and spices and man...we just did not like this. J described the flavor as "a liquefied bread" and i can't disagree. all the bits made for an unpleasant texture, and the lukewarm temperature didn't help. mango chutney - salty and more jam than chutney, but i can't stop ordering it for some reason. i like to spread it on the garlic naan and then top with chickpeas and onion chutney. onion chutney - pretty standard, but i wish they would add this as a pay-for menu item. i always ask for them to send at least two containers, but it's hit or miss whether they follow through. tamarind sauce - really thin and sour. i usually like this condiment from other indian places but not here. mint chutney - never seen any! regular menu items: samosas chaat - never had this dish before so i don't have much of a point of comparison. i thought it was quite good. i've ordered it each time and it just gets better. the last time i got it it had a really nice spice to it, too. finally! for an indian place the food is decidedly not that spicy. this is also a huge portion. it's listed as a cold appetizer but it is a hot dish, and i usually get it for my main and can barely make a dent in it. chicken tikka - this is the appetizer, not the chicken tikka masala dinner. i did not eat much of this and would not order it again. i expected skewered marinated chicken, like thai style, but instead got a little styrofoam box of chicken chunks covered in overcooked sad looking pepper and onion strings with a few dehydrated lime wedges. like bad mexican. my biggest issue was the texture of the chicken. it just seemed...not right. spongey. you ever get food and just get that gut feeling you shouldn't eat it? yeah. gobi pakora - deep fried spicy cauliflower. another item i haven't tried elsewhere, but it has piqued my interest for awhile. finally got this in our last order and i'm glad i did. these were so tasty! plus they give you about a dozen of them, too. the only thing i wish is that the batter was a bit crispier as opposed to soft, but maybe this isn't realistic for food that has to travel awhile, esp in styrofoam. still totally gonna get these little snacks again. chicken curry - J always gets this and finishes the whole thing - never seen him do that with any other indian food and he's never inclined to try anything else. he loves it. chicken vindaloo - this was just okay. the flavor was good - it was a tasty dish, but to me it just wasn't vindaloo. it wasn't spicy at all. also, both chicken dishes contain both white and dark meat, even though the menu says white meat. not a big issue for me, but ymmv. the curry and vindaloo also both come with a nice portion of rice. garlic naan - this is so good! i can never stop eating this. aloo (potato) naan - never had this before either, but i liked it. nice flavor. just got out-naan'd by the garlic one. overall we'll keep this as our go-to indian delivery place, but if you're in the mood to travel i'd recommend any of the places in cambridge or anmol in beverly if you're out that way. but for us over here in chelsea/everett, we're making it work.

Not sure if they intentionally screwed the order or if thats how they cook. I ordered chicken biryani n chicken tikka and this is my opinion. Chicken biryani - had green peas and green peppers in it, no basmati rice, no flavor. In what world does a biryani recipe contain peas n peppers. No indian cooks biryani like this. Chicken tikka - Huge chunks of chicken with no flavor at the middle. Do you guys know what marination is? And the chicken was old, am guessing they just reheated an old chicken and made my order. I am an ardent chicken eater and I know when a chicken has gone bad. Had to throw my order. Thanks for wasting my $25.

The 1st time we ordered from their it was not the best but it was eatable and it was on par with the reviews. (Not the best) but we decided to give them a 2nd try and we ordered chicken masala, meat samosas, garlic nan, and it came with rice which I didn't order not sureif they charged me for it and we got papadum too. Everything was tasty we were super surprised it was really good. We were impressed with the amount and quality. It was like night and day from the first time. We've only gotten take out and I have not seen the buffet yet which i want to go back and check out. We will be giving them a 3rd chance to keep us as customers. And we live down the street so i do pick up and the ladies have alway been really nice.

I've been enamoured with goat meat since my recent trip to South Africa. Hoping to fill this void, I ordered the goat curry dish here. While there was certainly flavor and spice in the curry, I found there to be too many bones, fat, and other in-edibles preventing me from enjoying each bite.

Came here for lunch. A good value, and the food was pretty good. We came a bit late though, and the tandoori didn't have quite the "tandoori fresh out the oven" taste.

I was let down by the quality and quantity of food that I ordered. Lamb Biryani - watery/lacking lamb Shrimp Curry- bland/watery/lacking shrimp Chicken Tikka Masala- flavorful/ but dry Mango Chutney- very good Beef Samosas- very good $47.85 before tax and tip and delivery fee....... expectations are high.

Not sure if Chicken Kurma was a dessert or an entree. We asked for a Spicy Kurma -- mentioned 4/5 stars for spiciness while ordering and we received a Kurma that was sweet. Last wish of the Chicken was not to end up in a Kurma like that.

I had some dishes at Joti yesterday for the first time. And they were fantastic. I've tried the lamb stuff before in Rhode Island and couldn't even finish a piece, I thought Indian food wouldn't pleasure my taste. However, this place is just a bomb!!! Fast service. Friendly servers. Love love love the food!!!

Great option for Indian delivery in Malden!! We got the vegetable biryani, chicken curry and shrimp tandoori with garlic naan on the side. Our order came with extra rice and plain naan. Everything was hot and delicious! Would definitely order again.

Joti Palace is the worst, they took over an hour for delivery. I made the order just after 6 pm and now it is 8:01 and my food just got here and it is cold! I am told that it should be excused because there is only one driver. This is unacceptable business practice! I will never order from Joti Palace again

  • Saira K.

Do not go here. This was the worst Indian food I ever ate. The only thing fresh was the naan. Each meat entry we had smelled. It was so significant we couldn't even eat another bite. Also- the biryani here is not biryani! Biryani is a fragrant dish that is full of flavor what we got was colored rice and peas with disgusting chicken gravy. Stay away from this place someone is going to get really sick!

  • Michael M.

There are not many Indian restaurants in the surrounding cities. If you love Indian food, Joti is as good as it gets. The food is excellent! And isn't really all about the food? If you are nearby and crave Indian, you will not be disappointed.

My initial review was only about dining in, but I've gotten delivery from here several times and it's always been a good experience. The food is consistently delicious and the delivery is timely.

Although I will vouch for the long delivery time, Joti Palace is great for takeout and dining in. (Husband and I get takeout a lot more than we dine in, but that has more to do with our schedule.) Last time, takeout was ready in less than 30 minutes when I ordered by phone on a weekday evening. I've never tried their buffet, but all the food I've had so far has been great (chicken tikka masala, naan, saag paneer, aloo gobi, biryani, malai kofta, and really good rice.) As for the claims of gastric disturbances in other reviews: I had food from here when I was pregnant (read: sensitive to all of the things) and had no stomach issues. So take those reviews with a grain of salt. It's usually pretty empty inside, but that probably has more to do with its location (it's on a not very pedestrian-heavy section of Main Street) than its quality. But this means that service is very quick and you don't have to compete for your waiter's attention. The staff has always been very kind and helpful. We will continue to order from here, and recommend other Maldenites to do the same!

I always order the food for delivery from them. One extra start for that. It is good for veg dishes. Paneer Korma is best of them all. Had tried chicken in the past which does not fare well in terms of taste compared to other non veg serving hotels.

I have never written a food or restaurant review until today. I cannot keep this place a secret! Never have I enjoyed so many different dishes from a single establishment nor have I enjoyed them more. There were so many variations of vegetarian meals to choose from which was extremely exciting. Each one of them tasted like it was handcrafted by a god. I'm in love with their food as well as their expeditious delivery. The price is just right and the customer service is outstanding. I have a new favorite restaurant in Joti!

unfortunately, the best thing about the meal was the chutney. I ordered the chicken saag, which had no flavor whatsoever, vegetable samosas , which were laden in grease and uneatable, and Naan which was way undercooked, soggy, and gross. this was my first and last time ordering from Joti Palace.

  • Christine M.

I love this place! I really don't understand all the negative reviews. I will say that I've only ordered vegetarian food, always to-go, and I've never had the buffet. I've ordered from here 4 or 5 times now, and it's always fantastic. I've been to other Indian restaurants in the area, including Somerville, Arlington and Cambridge, and I actually find the dishes to Joti to be much more flavorful and delicious. I'd say this is on par with the amazing Indian restaurants I've been to in NYC! It's also great that you can order online. They always have my food ready right when I get there. All around a great experience and highly recommended.

Joti Palace is an excellent option for Northern Indian (specifically Punjabi) delivery/takeout in the Malden/Melrose area. I was born and raised in India and therefore tend to crave authentic Indian food. Unfortunately, it is surprisingly difficult to find really good Indian food in the Boston area. I've lived in Boston for seven years and rate Joti Palace as one of the three or four Indian restaurants in the area that I believe serve exceptional Indian food. I have only ordered delivery from there and have never eaten in the restaurant and therefore cannot comment on ambience and service. I order from them once every week and have not experienced any drastic variation in quality which is impressive for such a restaurant. The vegetable tikkis and samosas are excellent and I do not know how they manage to deliver a perfect crust with a 10 minute drive. The aloo paratha is quite exceptional (though there is a slight variation in dryness from week to week). On good weeks, I would compare the aloo paratha to an excellent home cooked version. The chicken 65 and tandoori chicken are quite excellent and comparable to what you will find in Delhi. If your idea of Indian food is Chicken Tikka Masala please don't comment about this restaurant - the best food they have are the authentic dishes on the menu. Chicken Tikka Masala is not Indian food so please do not use it to measure the quality of Indian food! If I have one complaint - I do wish the delivery speed was a little more consistent or faster. But I'll wait for food this good.

My boyfriend and I have come here a few times and always leave satisfied. The food is good (both have tried buffet and have come for dinner) and service is fast. The atmosphere is more like 'Mom and pop' kind of feel, but I'm not looking for anything fancy if all I want is some good tikka masala and naan bread. Definitely my regular local place for Indian food cravings.

Have been to so many places in Boston searching for authentic Indian food and have been disappointed . Not here. They have one of the best samosa chats I have had in a while. There Malai Kofta and chicken and lamb dishes are also really good. I definitely think they can improve on their ambience but the food and service have always left me happy. We regularly order for take outs here now.

Simply delicious and true to traditional form. No americanizing, but pure and beautiful, fresh ingredients and terrific spices. Very small with buffet 11-3pm. Always get the Jyoti bread basket for a delight of the senses. Sag paneer is my favorite, bit basic beautiful curry wraps you in the warmth of India. I wish we had more wonderful ethnic places like Jyoti to become as common as the innumerable pizza joints.

This place has very tasty Indian food with very friendly owners .. I have had some very authentic samosa chat at this place that I find nowhere in Boston .. also the thaali dish they offer has a lot of variety .. i have heard they have a good buffet and wish to try it someday .. The one thing that these guys need to improve on is the ambience of the place ..

We ordered carry out from Joti. All of the food was amazing. The garlic naan is phenomenal, the garlic is baked into the bread. The Mali Kafta was also perfectly spiced, and delicious. Don't forget to try the samosas!! Yummy!!!

Had delivery from here. Lamb saag, chicken masala, veggie samosas, naan were all great. Except we waited 90 minutes for our food. I called twice - the first time was told it was on its way. I called back 20 min later and was told it's on the way. This time it arrived 10 min later, very hot - so I think they forgot about us. They were very apologetic. I think we will order from them one more time because really, the food was good. But ordering in Malden at 830 and getting dinner after 10pm was very frustrating.

I have eaten take out from here twice. Both times have been phenomenal. This restaurant is very underrated. Tonight I had the Seekh Kabob and veggie samosas. I have never tried tandoori items before as I'm usually not that adventurous at Indian restaurants, usually sticking to Chicken Tikka Masala. The kabobs were amazing and the samosas were the best I've ever had. I can't wait to go there again and try more new things.

This was excellent food. The naan was the best I've ever had. The chicken was delicious, especially good tikki masala. The appetizer sampler was a good taste of several different things. The samosa was as good as it gets. The Tandori chicken was also fantastic. I got $25 off from restaurant.com . People were very nice. Place was nice on the inside.

Fast delivery, great food and great prices, esp. with the 25% off that Foodler keeps giving me automatically. It's proper Indian food. I recommend the Chicken Jalfrazi.

Not sure why this place gets such bad reviews, which is why I had always avoided it but, after leaving my apartment building as a neighbor received her delivery, I was assured that it was really really good. So I took a break from Kebab Corner and gave Joti a try. I was not disappointed. In fact, it may be the best Indian food I have had since I was in India!! My order: * Non Vegetarian Thali Served with rice, chutney. Soup of the day, tandoori chicken, lamb curry, chicken tikka masala, rice pilaf, nan, papdaum and gulab jamun. * Badami Kheer Rice cooked in sweetened milk, raisins and almonds Everything was PIPING HOT! Perhaps because I live very close to Main Street and it was not busy (9pm on a Sunday night!) The tandoori chicken leg tasted as if it were made to order...hot and juicy with just the right amount 'burnt." The chicken tikka masala was creamy and delicious and also piping hot. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 instead of 5/5 is because I asked for a substitution for the lamb curry with another meat and as far as I can tell, I received some kind of veggie dish but that too was hot and delicious (it had potato, red kidney beans, cauliflower, etc.) Oh and there was no papadum. I splurged and ordered kheer rice pudding for dessert because I like to eat it with the gulab jamun. Very tasty even though it did not have raisins as described on the menu. The delivery took less than 25 minutes I believe and everything was great, even the naan was nice and hot which never happens when I order Indian food for delivery. I think that the $20 delivery fee + restaurant fee is a bit steep but the 25% off coupon helped soften the blow.
