The food was mostly good, especially the fresh pappardelle! I felt the menu was a bit limited - 4 veal choices plus a veal special, a couple of fish choices, a rack of lamb, and a few chicken dishes that didn't really grab me. My friend had the veal milanese and we both thought it was a bit heavy on the batter (she hit the nail on the head describing it as fried dough-esque). The pasta choices were more appealing, and the fresh stuff was great. The atmosphere was lacking. There were two service doors/curtains that remained open the whole evening which really detracted from the ambiance (fluorescent lighting tends to do that). Also hoping they plan to do a little something to separate the bar space from the dining area. I know it's tight, but maybe a little something to preserve the dining ambiance? The bar is nice and big, which is nice when you're just going to have drinks/apps at the bar, but really a bit large for the overall space. Service was okay, but they seemed flustered for a Thursday that wasn't very busy. I am sure these kinks will get ironed out...

Oh man, I'm not sure where to begin....I bolted from Boston, thinking it would be packed on a Friday. Much to my surprise, there wasn't a soul in sight. Granted it was only 5:30 on a Friday but it was still just the two of us at 6:30 when we left. Lets start with the decor....they did a nice job of creating the bar area but much like the previous reviewers, I wasn't psyched about the open curtains to the kitchen (and the fluorescent lights) to watch a guy spend a half hour dicing parsley. The good: the bartender was a really nice guy. The bad: the menu is basic and is a simple one-pager but they have 3 pages of wine, cordials and then finally desserts. A good wine selection? Nothing wrong with that....until its served in a thimble, for $8 for a basic Pinot grigio. F, terrible. Bread came. How do you manage to screw that up? By serving it cold and hard. It was a sourdough and would have been nice, if warmed, but alas, it was tough and tasteless. The olive oil with pimentos (I believe that's what they were) was the best part of the meal.....although that, too, was served in a thimble. The Cesar salad was good. The dressing was creamy but super fishy. The romaine was nice and fresh, though. The shaved parm on top was very yummy. I ordered bolognese.....um, bolognese is supposed to be simmered for a long time, after you brown the veggies and then the meats. This is what develops the delicious, rich, deep, favors. This was oily and tasteless. The pappardelle was cooked perfectly but was unevenly cut and super hard to eat, even with the assistance of a spoon. This homemade pasta was absolutely SWIMMING in sauce. No joke, it was pasta soup. Oh and it was $18 for this silliness. Thoroughly annoyed me as I spend 8 hours, gleefully laboring over my bolognese and get so pissed when I have to pay for tomato sauce with fatty veal. Too harsh!? Sorry, just being honest. Now on to the four cheese ravioli. I've never seen it served with meatballs and apparently that was the highlight of my husband's meal. The sauce was meh (see above). Apparently they're thinking of closing for lunch in August. First and foremost, they're next to Zabaglione. How do you even try to compete with a proven gem? Second, it's Ipswich. You're most likely not going to get a big crowd looking for a large Italian lunch. And lastly, places like Ithaki and Zabaglione have earned their well deserved stripes. This isn't The North End and we're not falling for the tourist prices. $100 bucks is steep for this quality of food. Again, I hate to be harsh but I want to be honest. I really hope someone can convince me things have improved, in the next few months, because I'd love to update this review with some good news!....

The food was outstanding. Lobster ravioli was fresh and full of lobster. Enough for dinner and lunch. Veal saltinboca was great. Nice fresh sage flavor complemented the dish. Tiramisu was perfect. Service was, to be kind, challenged. Apparently shorthanded, and some people left in frustration. We are glad we stayed. Beer/wine/cordials only. We got reasonable pours on our wines.

I noticed my review was removed. So I'm giving a historical review however will never go back. We're a couple who eats out from Thursday to Sunday. Yup... don't like cooking anymore. Mamma Luisa had three visits from us. In my previous review I stated three strikes and you're out! From food that was fair at best, to measured wine pours that are uninviting as I rather pay the price for an appropriate glass of wine, to lack of flexibility and a room too hot to sit in. It has appeared to me that the locations had been in a soft opening mode however they've lost my business. Shame for a local and the local business.

We went to Mamma Luisa on opening night with a party of 10 and everyone had a great time. The food was delicious The frutti Di Mare was a very large portion full of clams, mussels and shrimp. The bread was freshly made and served warm. Very nice atmosphere with a bar and a worknig fireplace. Good selection of wines. The service was very good.

LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE. Came here on a groupon and it met my expectations more than I could imagine. I have been to every Italian place on the North Shore (including the North End) and can HONESTLY say..Hooray there is an authentic Italian restaurant alive on the North Shore. Nick the server was apbsoutley supberp and the food well.. was the the best I ever had in a long time...Thank you for coming here..for the low ratings...get a life..the food is reasonably priced. I LOVE THIS PLACE...LONG TIME COMING BUT SO WORTH IT!!

This restaurant is way, way overpriced for the quality of either the food or the service. The meals were o.k. --only o.k. The service was spotty, to say the least. We had to ask for bread, ask for water, and when the latter arrived, it was tepid, so we had to ask for ice, which took so long that it was hardly worth waiting. The wine-by-the-glass choices are extremely limited, and the grande finale was the after-dinner coffees: $3.50 per cup. I'm talking basic old brewed coffee. Don't get me wrong. I don't mind paying when the quality is there or the food is memorable. But this place doesn't match these. Also, I hate when the staff suddenly turns uber efficient and attentive when it's time to deliver the check. I won't be going back.

I had a nice experience here. Overall, the food and service were good. I shared the calimari with a friend as an appetizer and had the mixed green salad and eggplant appetizer as my meal. We shared chocolate cake for dessert. It all tasted very good. I ate every bite. The service was good and attentive although I didn't appreciate a comment that one of the staff made (not our designated waitress)--I had a martini, which was already spilling over the top of the glass when it was placed on the table by the server. Because of that, every time I picked up and put down the glass, it left new wet sticky rings on the table (no cocktail napkin) and the glass was all sticky from the spill. When the table was being cleared, one of the waitstaff made a comment about me having a hole in my lip. I found that to be rude, even though she said it jokingly and with a smile. First of all, the drink came to me already spilled and I said nothing because I understand that these things happen--especially with martini glasses and it is not that important. But, I do not think it is OK to comment to the customer like that--even if I did actually spill it, which I didn't. Any server should know this. My only other comments--the menu is quite limited--especially for anyone that is a vegetarian. Also, I am sure they are all delicious, but it was surprising to see so many veal dishes in 1 restaurant. Even an Italian restaurant. I will go back sometime soon. I just have to shake off my annoyance over the comment as it is minor, but I found it to be inappropriate.
